The renovations were funded by the generous grants from a variety of local and national organisations including: H O Roe Charity, The Eleemosynary Charity of William Field, St Mary’s Church Stotfold, Central Bedfordshire Council, Frank Clement Hyde legacy, Benefact Trust, The Wixamtree Charitable Trust, Bernard Sunley Trust, Lottery Community Fund, Garfield Weston Foundation, Gale Family Trust, Stotfold Town Council and F.B. M.J Ryalls Celebrate 50 Year s!
M.J. Ryall Building Supplies celebrated in style after reaching 50 years of trading from their Norton Road site. The Stotfold based building supplies business originally began trading in Stotfold in 1974 by Michael & Josie Ryall and is run today by Chris & Vanessa Ryall, together with Manager Mark Baisden. To celebrate the occasion, MJ Ryalls offered all of their loyal customers a very special treat of breakfast rolls which unsurprisingly went down an absolute treat!
MJ Ryalls put their success down to providing the same friendly and practical service today as they offered on day one, always going that extra mile for their customers. They also offer a free delivery service within the local area to all their customers.
Congratulations Chris and his team on reaching such a magnificent milestone!
This charming watercolour is a change of style for Sue Farmer, who usually works in pouring acrylics, The painting is entitled " Canine Recruits" and features Sue's two dogsGaia and Nyxi Joanna Furr likes to work in coloured pencil for her canine studies -
To the left is a very handsome greyhound drawn by Joanna. To find out more about our Stotfold Art group please contact: 07821 502367.
Stotf old Youngster s Take On Snowden!
Meet Lola (6) and Immie (3). These girls are just amazing. having decided a while back that they wanted to set themselves a challenge, they quickly decided between the two of them that climbing a mountain was just the thing!
After Lola's initial suggestion to climb Mount Everest, Lola and Immie soon settled for Snowdon The girls have decided to raise money for a very worthwhile cause - The Garden House Hospice, a cause very close to their hearts The girls will be climbing Snowden during the last week of July so by the time this issue reaches you all, the girls may well have already completed this!
We wanted to share their amazing story with you just so we can all fully appreciate just how fantastic they both are! Thank you to everyone that has already supported them through their fundraising link (shared through our facebook page a couple of weeks ago) The link will remain open for sometime after the challenge - If you can support them in any way we know they would be truly grateful!

LOCAL life..
Finding out more about the people behind our local busineses
Each month we like to introduce you to another of our wonder ful Stotfold News Magazine adver tisers - this month (for those of you that don’t already know him!) we’d like to introduce you to Brian Kelly of BK Electrical:
Brian, you have been in Stotfold for many years, have you always lived in the town?
I’ve lived in Stotfold since 2006 after meeting my wife Donna. I originally grew up in West Dray ton which is right next to Heathrow airpor t, it’s a bit quieter and slower paced here in Stotfold!
We know you have had some involvement in football over the years - can you tell us about it and what made you decide to take this on (alongside also running your own business!)
I began coaching for the Stotfold Juniors when my son was an U6 player and now our team - the Stotfold Amber ’s, are playing as U16’s! It’s been a ver y rewarding experience seeing them grow both as players and as people I absolutely love football and now I also get to watch my daughter play for Stotfold Juniors too (although this time it’s purely as a parent with no coaching involved!!)
We know you are always busy, either working or running round after the children - How you choose to unwind yourself?
I’ve recently just taken up playing golf again after a few years out Now the kids are a bit older we have some free time so like to get out on the course or the range As a family we also love to visit restaurants, visit the cinema and take in a show ever y now and then
Brian, which do you prefer? Television or Music If you could only listen to three more songs or watch three more programmes for the rest of your life, which three would you choose and why?
Wow this is tricky...Think I will have to go with television as I'm a big film fan!
My three things to watch would be:
The lord of the rings box set.
The James bond collection.
The Game of thrones series.
I think this would keep me occupied longer than listening to 3 songs!!
Brian, many young people are leaving school now and deciding what to do with their futures. What advice would you give to someone looking to learn a trade and even maybe to work for themselves?
I would say to school leavers, please don't panic if your unsure of what to do, I was 28 when I decided to become an electrician Its probably one of the best decisions I've ever made
It’s not always easy, but being your own boss works for me
The main thing is that you enjoy what you do as we are a long time working in this world!!
All types of electrical work under taken. Installation, Fault finding, Heating controls Test and inspection, EV charge points, NICEIC approved contractor. Tel: 07817 545314 E:bk electrical@outlook com

Update from The Need Project
•751 parcels provided in 20 working days • 391 top- up-bags collected from our Pop- up sites • £52,725 estimated value of the food for the month • £6,602.50, the average monthly cost to run the charity • 1667 adults, 1450 children & 212 pensioners - the amount of people helped in June
It seems to go without saying, it’s another ver y, ver y busy month Considering we had 3 less working days, it’s still really high numbers, but you know we are still here, doing what we do, feedings as many people as we can, and giving away our best before stuff in Stotfold, Sandy and Shefford, which we don’t want to see binned
We are always amazed and so so grateful for the suppor t we get from the people of Stotfold and surrounding areas They are so keen to buy in and suppor t us From people with allotments, with rhubarb, or people dropping a bag of stuff into the centre Also, people looking on our Facebook page and seeing what we need and dropping it off, so Facebook really does work.
I remember, maybe 10 years ago, if I spent £100 on food, I’d be disappointed. But, last month, which was June, we spent £15,000 on food. That doesn’t mean we’re not well suppor ted, we are getting great donations, but demand is really high. But we keep going and the food keeps coming and we go again. The pressure of finding the food is so outweighed by the feeling we get when we see people fed, so that’s why we do because we are called to do it.
Our move is still on, but these things take time Our planning drawings are in to the council We are just waiting for approval and then we can go for building regs and move on
Please pray for us Pray that we get things done swiftly and get hold of the keys, so we can star t developing the downstairs, which is the main priority, the Food side of what we do, which is phase 1
Again, thank you so much to all the people who make the project possible - the volunteers, the prayer warriors, the encouragers, the donators. You don’t know how much it helps.
Thanks. Praise God always.
Gordon
Well, here we are at the height of summer and, as I write this – admittedly about a while before you’ll read it!) - the skies are grey, the rain is torrential and the idea of summer feels a long way away Let’s hope that, by the time this edition lands on your doorstep, the sun has made an appearance and we can all enjoy a proper summer
We’ve had a busy time at the Mill the last few weeks, what with Stotfest at the end of June, where the Mill had a stall selling our fabulous oats and flour and had the chance to chat with people about the Mill Did you spot the Mill on the beautiful ar twork designed for the town’s 50th celebration? We featured on the festival cups as well as the bottles of colour-changing gin and delicious beer, which are available to buy at various locations around Stotfold It was a fantastic weekend, and it was amazing to see so many people from Stotfold and the area enjoying the par ty
We’ve also been busy with visits from local schools and community groups Did you know we run group visits? Any community group, social club, school or organisation can book a tour, which will include a milling demonstration, a talk about the histor y of the mill, and activities suited to the group. We can even include tea and cake! If your group would like to book, do get in touch!
In addition to the educational visits, we’ve also had a visit from the Green Flag Award judge The Green Flag Award is an international scheme that recognises well-run and well-managed parks and green spaces The Nature Reser ve has held Green Flag status for twelve years, so we’re hoping for another great result!
Plans are afoot for the Working Steam Weekend in October, and tickets for this popular event will be available on our website soon Come and join us on the 5th and 6th of October Lastley, don’t forget we’re open on Sundays, (despite the road closures in Mill Lane!) We look for ward to seeing you soon!

Know your season
Our seasons feel all over the show Apparently, this is due to climate change; I don’t pretend to understand the science However, I do have some understanding about the seasons of the human soul These shift and change throughout our lifetime to enable us to evolve, change, grow, rest, heal, process endings, navigate transitions and enter new seasons When we do not know what season we are in, we may work against its natural rhy thm and flow This is more likely when in a season we do not wish to be in, like grief We tend to think grief only applies to the loss of a loved one Grief is a natural process that follows loss/endings whether of relationships/employment/health/youth/circumstance It could be any ending of how life was, what has not materialised or where life is going Sometimes we suffer more subtle losses of self, agency, purpose or direction
Grieving is personal It can be hard, exhausting and unpredictable The worst way to respond to grief is by ignoring or suppressing it This can be an instinctive, defensive response to pain we do not want to feel Paradoxically it is only by being exactly where we are, along with whatever pain we feel, that we begin to move towards where we would rather be What can help during difficult seasons is to cut ourselves some slack around expectations And to practice consistent self-care of all par ts To berate ourselves with impatience or withdraw self-care is to prologue being in the ver y place we don’t want to be The garden illustrates that growth happens over time in response to consistent care combined with cer tain conditions, especially warmth It is no different for us humans Knowing our season can help us to actively work within rather than against it

News from Roecroft Lower School
This month I would like to say an enormous thank you to the whole team at Roecroft, thank you one and all for you dedication and commitment to our children and their families. It is common knowledge how challenging roles in schools have become over recent years, so your resilience, creativity and hard work cer tainly shouldn’t be without mention Another thank you to the children and their families, who keep up with school life and work hard ever y day to all do their best
In Year 3, we star ted the summer term with our second trip of the year The whole cohor t made the trip to Queen’s Park in Bedford to visit three places of worship – a Gurdwara, Mosque and Church This is a fantastic trip and one the school has been under taking for many years now A great day was had by all!
To celebrate the European football championships, we organised a football fun day in school Ever yone had great fun and the Year 3s enjoyed playing in a mini tournament on the school field In Geography, the children have been learning about South America and the Amazon Rainforest
On Step Up day, the children got to meet their new Year 4 teachers and are now getting prepared for the move to their next year group.
Mr Stephen
In Year 4, we had a wonder ful summer term with lots of exciting activities to celebrate our Year 4 children leaving and moving onto their new schools
Before the end of year celebrations began, we enjoyed our new histor y topic 'The Ancient Egyptians' We also had a topic day where the children had great fun dressing up and per forming a pharoah's burial complete with a life - size coffin! In English, we wrote Egyptian- themed my ths and we explored Egyptologist Howard Car ter
Another highlight of the term was our annual Dance Morning, we enjoyed this year's ‘Colours’ theme, dancing along to 'Mr Blue Sky', 'Get Up Offa That Thing' and 'Red Lights'
In July, as well as putting on our Leavers show for parents 'The Roecroft Late Late Show', we had a par ty on the playground with BBQ food and an ice cream van and created yearbooks as a memento of the children's time at Roecroft.
I would like to again take the oppor tunity to wish our wonder ful Year 4 leavers the ver y best of luck at their new schools!
Miss Houghton Wishing
News from St Mar y’s COE A c ademy
Following a ver y busy Summer term, we said goodbye to our Year 4 children They have enjoyed a busy last year with their visits to the O2 and Whipsnade, not to mention their residential trip to Rock UK They celebrated their last few days with a special church ser vice, disco, talent show and Leavers Assembly with parents invited on the last day of term We wish them all the ver y best in their new schools
Our other children have also enjoyed the whole school trip to Whipsnade Zoo along with Faith Tours, Hazard Alley, Stotfold Mill visits and Cinema trips to name a few! Much fun was had by all with many new experiences gained, especially our youngest children! For some the coach journey was excitement enough! Our Spor ts Week was packed with games, races, competitions, contests, tournaments and training! It was great fun and a huge success with the children and we managed to work around the Great British weather and the loss of our playing field! As always there are lots of pictures on the website to view!
As a school we are also ver y proud of our fundraising effor ts in conjunction with our parent's association, the SMSA Despite the events of the last few years our families have helped us raise just under £1400.00 towards Children In Need, Save the Children, Royal British Legion and Comic Relief as well as over £10000.00 towards school funds from the SMSA. This has helped towards school events and various additional school resources. We have also received an amazing amount of food donations for the Need Project from members of our whole community.
Many thanks go to our staff, volunteers, community and families for their continued suppor t without which this would not have been possible. So to end this year, we hope ever ybody has a safe and enjoyable summer break. We look for ward to welcoming ever yone back to school on Wednesday 4th September

News from Our Local Churches.
St Guthlac’s Church, Astwick.
I wasn’t able to make it to our monthly Sunday 7th July ser vice due to one of those nasty viruses. Grateful thanks to Rev’d Dr. Simon Tibbs who took the ser vice on my behalf. Well isn’t the weather absolutely miserable! Rain, rain and more rain. When we hit 30 degrees in early June, that was far too hot; unbearable! Why can’t things be just right. Or are we never satisfied?
On the other side of the coin, there is a par ticular industr y in our countr y and closer to hear t in Astwick that depends on the weather being just right That being our farmers where too much or too little rain or sunshine can have a devastating effect on food crops for humans and animals and farmers There is always, sadly going to be challenges and adversity in our lives When we don’t know what to do and we’re caught up in fear ful insecurity, we need to focus on the knowledge that God has called us to something - that he has given our lives a purpose God does not require us to be successful or per fect, just faithful The greatest challenge is to keep trusting God
We are having a joint ser vice on Sunday 4th August at St Guthlac’s church with St Peter ’s church, Arlesey The ser vice will be outdoorsweather permitting, but if it rains you’re welcome to call me out on that if I see you in the Co-op!
The ser vice is at 11:15am.
Do tr y and join us!
