News from Stotfold Methodist Church

As I’ve written before, I recently took up painting. You see above one of my attempts from the beginning of this year. It’s called Seaside Memory and it is, perhaps obviously, unfinished. I was encouraged to compose a painting from memories and through sketches of objects that I had to hand. I included a flask I was given, a picnic box, and my old SLR camera, because I used to take holidays on the English coast and got into photography as a teenager. I fully intended to finish the painting but I got stuck and it didn’t happen.

I think it’s good to try things, start new things, and to explore particularly one’s creativity. We are made like our maker, creative. Whatever your view of creation or a creator or a God that you may or may not know, there is something undeniable about the creativity of human beings. I delight in the paintings and drawings that I did as a child or those done by my own children. I love the fact that we are given paper and pens to draw and to capture a thought somehow on paper, a luxury. I hope this coming summer gives us opportunities to explore our own creativity. I am hoping maybe to finish my painting or start something new. I will endeavour to hold back my judgement of my abilities and to simply enjoy the process and receive whatever emerges. God give you a gracious and creative summer. The Methodist Church Coffee morning on is on the first Saturday of the month as usual, 10am to 11:30. Monday Club, 2pm to 3:30pm. Sunday worship at 10am.
