News from Stotfold Methodist Church

This June starts with celebrations. On the 3rd day of June, the Queen’s birthday parade and the trooping of the colour will take place in London, and the lighting of the Beacons around the country . The next day, St Paul’s Cathedral will host service of Thanksgiving for the Queen‘s platinum jubilee.

On Sunday, the 5th of June, the church celebrates its beginning, Pentecost Sunday, its birthday party. And I know also around the country there will be Jubilee street parties. It is a day to celebrate.

It’s something to be admired when a person commits themselves to service and sticks with it as much as they’re able to. So we celebrate seventy years of faithful service, recognising that our Queen is a person of Christian faith and who readily speaks of her faith. For Christian people, Pentecost is a time when we remember those people who met Jesus, lived life with him, saw his death and witnessed his resurrection, received the Holy Spirit on Pentecost Sunday and then spoke boldly about all that they’d learnt. They gave their lives in service to share that message, eventually writing it down and giving us the Bible so we now can share Christ’s story with one another, bringing new life to many a community around this world. May these examples of service inspire us in the challenges of the days to come.
