Brother’s Foreword
Dear Patricians,
Potest Qui Vult - He who wills, can - is the motto of our school. I remember the badge I proudly wore with the very same motto when I was in school in the 1970s. This is a sure and frm foundation upon which to build. Surely, St Pat’s will progress not just as a good school but a GREAT school.
The pictures in this yearbook show a clear message of the school’s values: Selfdiscipline, Teamwork, Respect, Integrity, Valor and Excellence. Activities in school were carried out with so much synergy and goodwill from different stakeholders - staff, students, parent volunteers etc, refecting the sort of community we are. I am proud of St. Pat’s: In doing all you have done this year, without detracting from our vision, we have proven in no small way that a community – regardless of race, language or religion - is a powerful unit with a special dynamism of its own that others must reckon with.
As we look through the pages of our yearbook, let us ask ourselves: what lesson can I learn from the activities and daily events of our life at St Pat’s? I offer you some thoughts for your refection:
The Four Practices of an Exemplary Student
Practice 1: Model the Way: Set the example by aligning actions with the school’s values
Practice 2: Inspire a Shared Vision: Enlist others in a common vision by appealing to shared aspirations.
Practice 3: Enable others to Act: Foster collaboration by promoting co-operative goals and building trust. Practice 4: Encourage the Heart: Recognize contributions by showing appreciation for individual excellence. God bless.

Principal’s Foreword
Dear Students, Staff and Friends of St Pat’s,
This year began with a great deal of promise. Energized by a new strategic vision and determined to develop our students to be Boys of Faith, Gentlemen with Purpose and Leaders with Heart, we have begun transforming all facets of the school experience.
While dealing with disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic have been diffcult, I am heartened to share that these experiences have also brought us closer, with students and staff putting forth their best efforts to adapt to the changes around us. One memorable example was the heartwarming performance “A Thousand Voices”, originally composed by Mr Haniel Soh and expertly co-produced by Ms Charissa Chia and Ms Dorothy Seng. The video clip was featured on the Ministry of Education’s website and became a stirring rallying call, not just for our school community but for all of Singapore, to remain steadfast in combating Covid-19.
Notwithstanding the changes brought about by the pandemic, some things remain fundamental, such as the character development and well-being of our students. We took a signifcant step towards activating Student Voice and Agency with the conversion of the Prefectorial Board into a Student Council. This clearly signals the more inclusive, consultative and collaborative community-building approach we have adopted.
We also took a giant step into the Digital Age with the effcient distribution of the Personal Digital Learning Device to the Sec 1 - 3 cohorts. This will open up new possibilities for more personalised learning, and better enable the acquisition of digital literacies needed for work and life.
Enjoy revisiting the key moments of the year as you read about the many Patricians striving to make the best of an unusual year flled with twists and
turns. A debt of gratitude is owed to the Publications Committee under Ms Nur Azzah for their labour of love in compiling this yearbook.
Finally, I offer my congratulations to the class of 2021. May God bless all of you with continued opportunity, growth, and success. Potest Qui Vult!
For the LORD is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.

Patrician of the Year
Nilesh Sean Kumar, 4-3 2020
Coming to St Patrick’s School meant I had to adapt to the new environment and form new bonds. I am grateful to have formed many strong relationships with my teachers and peers during my time here. My role model is my ex-form teacher, Ms Alyssa Lim. She inspires me with her positive spirit and spurred me to be a better version of myself.
During the Covid-19 lockdown, I struggled with home-based learning and felt stressed. This was refected in my poor grades. Yet, I chose not to give up and am proud that I eventually did well for my N level examination! I learnt a lot during my time here in SPS, especially through my student leadership experiences. I was given numerous opportunities to hone my leadership skills. Four years in SPS few by quickly, which reminds me to treasure the moments and make them count.
I’ve also come to realise that a little kindness goes a long way. I seize opportunities to express my appreciation to teachers and friends. To motivate myself, I often engage in refective self-talk, by asking myself, “Why am I doing this?” This always helps me to focus on my goals.

National Day
In this year’s NDP 2021, the theme, “Together, Our Singapore Spirit” evokes our common Singapore identity and Singaporeans coming together as one united people. On the 6th Aug 2021, St Patrick’s School celebrated this joyous occasion in our classes. We refected on the obstacles faced the past year, reminding one another about the “can-do” attitude that all Singaporeans must have to overcome these challenges together and seek new heights.

Muhammad Wafiq Hadee
Bin Anuwar
Class of 2017
Wafq is a singer songwriter based in Singapore currently working with THEWONDAFACTORY, a local based production house who helps him turn his ideas to reality. He has performed at places such as Esplanade, Expo and Suntec convention centre.
Discovering his passion, Striving for success
“I was called up by my peers to sing in front of the school during an assembly performance with a live band. From that moment, I knew that performing on stage was my dream. I was given many opportunities in school to showcase my love for performing, which helped to hone my skills and build my confdence. One memorable experience would defnitely be the time I performed during National Day where I collaborated with my teachers to make our own acapella rendition of ‘Home’. It was an experience where I discovered new singing styles to work on!”
Life lessons I learnt in St Patrick’s School “Honesty, Humility, Humanity - the iconic 3Hs which I strive to be a living example of to my friends, family and society.”
A teacher who has inspired me
“Mr Darrenkane Ang is the teacher I will never forget. He was my form teacher and also my CCA teacher. To be honest, I wasn’t the brightest student but it was because of his determination to see me succeed that motivated me to push harder. I wasn’t doing well in my fnal year but he helped me throughout my last few months in the school and I managed to secure a spot in Temasek Poly.”
Keshav Kumar
Class of 2018
A professional footballer with Balestier Khalsa Football Club, Keshav shares how St Patrick’s school played an instrumental role in kick-starting his football career.
Overcoming Challenges - Exemplifying Self-Discipline and Resilience
“I was a really plump kid who couldn’t run to save his life back in secondary one, much less play football at the competitive level. It was no surprise I ended up in the CCA development team in Secondary 1. It was one of the best things that could’ve happened to me. Hard work and discipline - the two attributes I learnt there - changed my life both on and off the pitch. I made it to the school team and my results improved too despite my heavy CCA commitments. My hard work paid off as I was talent scouted by the club in my fnal year in school.”
Life lessons I learnt in St Patrick’s School
“Don’t cry over spilled milk. Use it as a stepping stone to future success. In my time at St Pats, I’ve encountered rejection and failure be it in my CCA or my studies. I pick myself up, learn from it and move on.”
A teacher who has inspired me
“Mr Irfan was my CCA teacher, secondary one form teacher and PE teacher. He believed in me even when I did not believe in myself, ensuring that I stay focused and not let my hard work go to waste. I am where I am today because of him.”
Basil Gerard Teo Wei Jin
Class of 2010
Captain of the Football Team that secured a spot in the 2010 fnal of the B Division Football Championship for the frst time in our school’s history, Basil has soared to greater heights since that momentous feat. He was scouted during the fnals and represented Singapore in soccer at the U17-U23 levels in international tournaments and played in the S-league for Geylang United for 3 years. When it was time to enlist for NS, he called time on his soccer career. Following his training at Offcer Cadet School, he was offered the SAF Academic Scholarship (Military) and went to the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) to train with the Australian Defence Force for 4 years. He was awarded the New Zealand Chief of Defence Award for the most successful international undergraduate and Distinct Graduate of ADFA. Besides his military achievements, Basil graduated with a Second Upper for Honours in Business. Currently, Basil is awaiting his next posting in the Republic of Singapore Air Force.
Overcoming Challenges - Exemplifying Self-Discipline and Resilience
“I am going to be in the Express stream next year. I made myself this promise when I entered as a Normal Academic student in Sec One. Peer pressure came knocking on my doors and I succumbed in my earlier years. Fun was all I had in mind. The bad habits and trouble in and out of school followed, which led to a deterioration of my academic performance. One day, I decided enough was enough and said “no” to my peers. Did this epiphany come instantly? No. It was a gradual process, one which required me to stick to my decisions and communicate my sentiments to my peers, crossing my fngers that no bridges were burned. Saying “no” wasn’t a diffcult decision after all.”
“Basil, wake up, Basil, pay attention. These were just some of the words used by my teachers whenever they called my name. My late nights even on school days made it diffcult for me to pay attention during class and I eventually lost interest in most things. When I realised it was fnally time to change this idle lifestyle, it was easier said than done. With the support of my family and teachers, I eventually found the motivation to do my best in school both in my studies and my CCA. As both competed for my time, I knew I had to make the best of every minute, every second, with my family and teachers steering me on the right path when the going got tough. I never gave up because they never gave up.”
3 life lessons I learnt in St Patrick’s School
“Surround yourself with positive infuences. During my time in St Patrick’s, I had friends from diverse backgrounds. In these different groups, I had friends who elevated me as well as those who brought me down. It is important to recognise which friends to surround yourself with as these people will have a positive infuence on your life.”
“Stick to the right path. Peer pressures resulted in me participating in many activities I was uncomfortable with. However, I realised that no matter the circumstance, I should never let anyone dictate my actions or decisions.”
“Self-belief is everything. Throughout my time in school, especially coming from the Normal Academic stream, I had my detractors and critics who doubted my academic abilities and potential. Their words never got to me, instead they fueled my determination to succeed.”
How I motivate myself
Rico Wan Jun Jie
Class of 2017
In 2017, Rico was the only Patrician scout from the St Patrick’s Pajigwad Scout Group to be awarded the Chief Commissioner’s Award, the highest award in the scout section. To attain this award, a scout must hold the 1st class, achieve required profciency badges, show knowledge of scouting and successfully complete an interview with the National Scout Committee. Three years later, with his scouting passion still blazing, Rico was conferred the prestigious 2020 President’s Scout Award, the highest rank in the Singapore Scout Association. This award is presented to our nation’s most outstanding venture scouts in recognition of their excellent leadership and personal performance, their dedication to the Scout movement and their service to the Community. The Award represents the pinnacle of achievement for these venture scouts and signifes their preparedness for a lifetime of service to God, nation and all mankind.
Overcoming Challenges - Exemplifying SelfDiscipline and Resilience
“Self-discipline and resilience helped me cope with my studies and heavy CCA commitments at the same time. It is not true that one will suffer at the expense of the other.”
“Once I had a taste of success, I wanted more. This ‘success’ was doing well in the frst semester of Secondary 4. Before that, I was barely passing my exams and almost had to repeat Secondary 3. The wake up call I had came when I saw the reactions of my seniors who received their ‘O’ level results. I realised only I could change the script of my life before it was too late. I set a manageable goal of focusing and studying hard for just one semester. This turned out to be the catalyst for many better things to come. From doing well for one semester, it spurred me on for my ‘N’ Levels and this “little taste of success” became my main motivator. From my experiences thus far, I can safely say that nothing motivates a person more than the intrinsic satisfaction of achieving one’s desired goals. A goal doesn’t have to be something far-fetched. It can be something small but eventually, these small goals will contribute to something bigger and better in the future.”
3 life lessons I learnt in St Patrick’s School 1. Do the right thing even when no one is watching 2. Challenge the process
3. Never give up
How I motivate myself
“The support from my family and friends. They are constantly there to support, encourage and guide me through any obstacles especially in managing my academic and CCA responsibilities. This drives me to do well and make them proud.”
Welcome to St Patrick’s!

I don’t teach Mathematics, I teach students.” My philosophy in teaching is to provide a life-changing experience for students by always being there for them, encouraging, supporting, and challenging them. It has been a wonderful experience in St. Patrick’s School thus far, sharing my experiences and knowledge to them and I am looking forward to achieving more together with my students to shape the future generation of gentlemen.
Mr Chia Wenn Teck
Mathematics Department
After a short stint teaching in a primary school, it’s great to be back teaching Secondary Mathematics, which I am more familiar with. More than 30 years of teaching experience has taught me that with the appropriate support and motivation, any student can enjoy and excel in Mathematics. What drives me in teaching are the interaction with young teenage minds and challenging them to give off their best. It’s been a great learning experience teaching in St. Patrick School, and I’m appreciative of the school community for giving me the space and opportunities to continue to grow in my profession.
Mr Chong Weng Chiew
Vincent Mother Tongue Language Department
I believe that students are always inspired to learn and improve themselves. A teacher has a positive and long-lasting impact on students. A teacher is a leader, a mentor, or even a surrogate parental fgure. Even with so many years in the teaching profession, I am still learning to interact with students, understand them and share my life experience as a Teacher with them. I would like to thank my colleagues in my Department and the school community to guide and support me to contiune my teaching carrer.
Mr Tay Woei Long Samuel Science Department
Coding is such a wonderful language of creativity, I see it as an energizing force of innovation for the boys in our school. Seeing the boys’ passion at play is truly satisfying and I wish to see more opportunities in preparing our gentlemen to be future-ready with a wide range of computational thinking tools at their disposal.

Be the change that you want to see in this world.” To me, teaching music is not just a passion, but it is also an opportunity to make a difference and sow seeds of positivity into the lives of each student we come into contact with. The past year at St. Patrick’s School has been a wonderful one, and I am thankful for supportive colleagues and the many students who have added joy to an otherwise mundane work day.
Mr Nicholas Huang Hanmin
English Language and Literature Department
To teach is to play a pivotal role in changing the lives of others. The impact may not always be immediate, but I have faith and hope that the lessons I impart today, will leave a strong impression tomorrow. I am honored to be in a position to transform lives and shape perspectives.
Miss Yee Yun Shawn

Learning is a step-by-step process. I am heartened to be in this position to mould young minds and bodies and to celebrate their little successes. As a teacher, I hope to help students grow to be better versions of themselves every day, regardless of the role they play- a student, a child or simply just a friend.
Ms Faith Wong Soke Yee

For me, teaching is an opportunity to impact the lives of those who will shape our future. The joy of teaching comes from being able to share my passion in the subjects I teach and to lead students to discover its relevance and value in this ever-changing 21st Century. Student Leaders
To me, St Patrick School is a place where communities and friendships are forged through the help of supportive and encouraging teachers and students who provide us with a conducive environment. This allows us to grow into leaders who are motivated to lead from the heart, for the better of the community, because SPS is a place where we can all feel safe to make mistakes and learn from them in a manner that encourages us to strive to reach the stars.
Through the help of the 4 other boards in the SPS Student Council, I will help to provide a pleasant Patrician Experience that everyone can beneft and grow from, as I would like to preserve the rich and unique culture that the school can offer.
Jayden Tan, 3L, SPS Student Council President
To me, St Patrick’s school is a place to grow up, it’s a place where I was educated, not just academically, but also skills wise. I was taught values and skills that I can use later in life. I met friends and improved my social skills. To me, St Patrick’s school is my second home. As a student leader, I strive to improve the school for students and staff. When I frst stepped foot here, I saw the school as a blank canvas with a lot of opportunities. When I became a student leader, I made sure that whatever improvements I bring will help beneft the school greatly. The student council had brought so many improvements to improve the experience for students in this school, while also training the next generation of student leaders. I hope that when I step down, the next batch of student leaders will be able to take over with ease and bring even greater improvements to the school.
Lucas Nai, 3I, SPS Student Council
Head of Operations
St Patrick’s School to me is a second home. I feel safe and cared for in St Pats. Whether it is the teachers, my peers, or the rest of the staff who work at St Pats. St Pats has a rich culture and I think that this culture has really allowed me to connect with everybody here at St Pats. I am going to help the school improve by improving its public image through varying platforms as the head of publicity in the student council.
Jonathan Chen, 3V, SPS Student Council Head of Publicity
St. Patrick’s School, to me, is a place where I feel safe to be as close to myself as I can; a place where the people have instilled a love of learning and sparked passion in me. It has inspired me to give back to the community, and that’s why I’m here! I’m attempting to help the school improve in terms of the sense of belonging to the school students have. My board is hoping to do that through the creation of (sports/ camp) school cheers, a school mascot, making school-wide competitions, and helping with school NE and VIA activities.
Benedict Choo, 3I, SPS Student Council Head of Spirit
St Patrick’s has been like a second home to me. It has provided me with ample opportunities to improve my leadership skills and has given me motivation to excel in terms of academics and extracurriculars. Apart from this, St Patricks has allowed me to grow spiritually and provided me with a great environment surrounded with supportive friends and teachers as I mature in my teenage years. This school is my home, there is no other word for it. Through this branch, my fellow catholic student leaders and I would be able to maintain the catholic identity of the school via various programmes and extracurriculars. On top of these featured projects in the branch, I strongly encourage the implementation of original projects from the other members in the branch.

One memorable experience I had in this CCA was during the 4x100m semifnals in 2019. It was my team’s frst C division semi-fnal so we were eager and anxious to see if we had qualifed for the fnals. It was a rollercoaster of emotions. Thinking back on that moment made me realize the importance of friendship and teamwork and I reminisce fondly about our days training together. As a team, there’s no such thing as blaming each other for mistakes. Rather, we have an “all for one” attitude, going through adversity and happy moments together as one team. Although we got 7th place in the fnals, it was a good memory to forever cherish as a team. When I leave the CCA, I hope that the juniors will work hard and stay committed to the CCA.

One memorable moment that I experienced was during the B Division National School Games 2021. This year was the frst time the school advanced into the 2nd round. We were elated with this achievement, which led us to set higher goals. What made me a better leader during this occasion is how to better communicate and motivate my teammates to work harder. As the Captain of the school Badminton team, I hope that my time will be impactful and that we as a team can improve on our skills and have a better attitude in order to eventually win the East Zone Championships.

My most memorable recollection in Basketball was when we took part in the 2019 National School Games. In the second match of the competition, we were down by 13 points with only one quarter left. Some of my teammates felt discouraged and began to doubt themselves. I knew I had to do something to lift their spirits and motivate them to beat the odds at that crucial moment. I called my teammates aside and told them that I was certain we could turn things around. We started to motivate each other both on and off the court. By the end of the match, we had won by 12 points. This marked our frst win as a team that year. When I leave the CCA, I wish for all SPS Basketball members to win more games as a team and to also have a good work ethic while in CCA days no matter what and also in future endeavours.

One memorable occasion I had was when I played in the C Division team in 2019. It was our frst cricket tournament for most of us. We were experiencing tough competitions against other school teams. Although we lost most of the matches, we learnt something out of it, such as how to adapt to the changes in our strategies. The more games we played, the more the experience we gained. There was also a continuous increase in our team’s confdence. During matches and tournaments, the situations are different due the amount of added pressure to perform. These situations also helped us to know each other’s strengths and weaknesses. What made me a better leader is actually realising the power of teamwork, team bonding and motivation. Although we were against stranger teams, we fought till the end, as a team. Thus, when I leave the CCA, I do hope that SPS Cricket can bring more victories and grow stronger as a unit. I also expect SPS Cricketers to be self-disciplined and become gentlemen with purposes.

One memorable occasion I have experienced was when I participated in a golf competition at Laguna National Golf Resort Club. During the competition, I made many new friends and also managed to pick up some new skills through observational learning. One important thing that I learnt during the competition was the importance of encouraging others. Encouragement is something we all need to keep us motivated, loved, and feel confdent in ourselves and what we do. During the competition, one of the competitors in my group did not perform well and he showed signs of giving up. Although we were not from the same school team, everyone in the group gave him words of encouragement to cheer him on. Despite not achieving a good score, he persevered on and displayed excellent sportsmanship by not giving up. I hope that my peers will continue to strive for excellence and the spirit of camaraderie can be exhibited through caring and encouraging one another.

One memorable occasion that I have experienced was when I was part of the C Division team in the National School Games 2019 Final match. The competition was very tough where we had to play against a top footballing school. What made me a better leader during this occasion was actually realising the power of encouragement among my teammates. As we were losing by one goal, we continued to push with positivity and passion where we eventually scored the equalizer at the last minute of normal time. Thus, when I leave the CCA, I do hope that SPS Football can create more victories in the years to come and also create more leaders with grit not only in football but in life as well.

One memorable occasion that I have experienced was when I led the C Division Team in the National School Games 2019. This was a very important match as it would have determined our chances of reaching the semi-fnals. After my match, I continued to spur on my teammates from the side-lines, cheering when they won points, and encouraged them when they lost. This made me a better leader as it really taught me how, “Teamwork makes the Dream Works” and as long as we have this bond between us we can overcome any challenges that stand before us. After I leave, I hope my juniors can cherish the time they have together, and create special bonds just like I did with my teammates, and when the time comes, I hope they will surpass our achievement and make the school proud.

One of the most memorable experiences for me was during our preparations for our inter school tournament in 2019. It was my frst year as the captain of the C Division team and I was relatively new to the role. I was unsure, afraid and worried as to how I would motivate and to have them “locked in”. As I approached the courts, to my surprise my fellow peers had begun training on their own. It was a marvelous sight. However, as the training went on the facial expression of exhaustion and frustration fooded their faces. I knew I had to spark a little fre in their bellies. I was nervous, as I was never a confdent speaker to begin with. After gathering my thoughts, I gave it a shot. Immediately, I saw a change in my teammates’ expressions and hunger to carry on. This image has stuck dearly to my heart as I have learnt the signifcance and impact a Captain can have - to rally and motivate the team.
Personally, as I leave the CCA, I hope that the St Patrick’s Tennis Team will be able to continue to grow in camaraderie and also strengthen the bonds between one another.
Finally, I would also like the team to set a goal of Top 4 in nationals. Although it isn’t an easy challenge, I have the utmost confdence in the team to thrive and succeed. Remember Potest Qui Vult! (He who wills, can! )

Watching my seniors rehearse and march for the very last time at the Passing Out Parade was most memorable for me. It reminded me of the legacy they left behind and the responsibility that my friends and I now had. The impressiveness of their performance inspired me to become just as inspiring a leader. Through carefully planning Routine Orders and CCA sessions, I hoped that engaging and fruitful CCA sessions would also excite the juniors. The lessons I’ve learnt, however, extend beyond CCA sessions. Planning the RO for CCA sessions also taught me time management skills which has been critical in helping me transition into Upper Secondary life. As a result, I have become more responsible and capable at managing my different roles and responsibilities.
I hope that the juniors will continue to apply what they have learnt and maintain or even improve the CCA’s standards. I also hope that our juniors will be able to surpass our expectations and set their own benchmarks for their juniors.

One memorable event was Camp FORGE, a camp in NCC HQ. It was the frst camp as a batch and we participated in activities like high elements, the motivational obstacle course and archery. We had a lot of fun as a batch, as we bonded together through the activities. As some of the activities were scary for others, most of us would cheer each other on and encourage them to try, and because of that, we as a batch, became stronger and faced everything together.
In the future, I hope that our Free-Style Drill knowledge would continue to be passed down to the juniors, and they would be great leaders in leading the CCA. I also hope that the future leaders taking over the CCA would persevere, and together face challenges head-on.

One memorable occasion that I experienced was when I got my frst promotion as an NPCC cadet. Although it was only one of the frst stages of my journey as an NPCC cadet, I was proud of my achievement and knew that I had to push even harder so that I could continue down this path. What made me a better student was the fact that I knew that if I wanted to continue in the CCA, I had to persevere in the face of adversity and also get along with my squad mates. When I leave the CCA, I hope that the current and future cadets will be able to forge strong relationships with each other and help one another when they are in need, reminding one another never to give up.

One memorable occasion that I have experienced would be the Bonfre activity that lit up my Sec 1 Scout Investiture. The night was so silent that the crackle of the campfre was all that could be heard, a natural music in the duvet-black night. Flames sent red sparks dancing into the breeze; glowing with the hearty memories of years past, inviting them to enter the present moment as bright as the sparks that leapt. From that moment, a fame of passion was instilled in my heart.
I got to know about the generations that used to lead the troop in times past, and with that I learned the true nature of Scouts. As the 81st Troop Leader, I wish that the Troop will continue to hold our core value of brotherhood and still keep up its unique ways.

Being the Drum Major of the band has been a tough and memorable experience, one that I will cherish forever. One memorable occasion would be participating in the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) 2021. A huge amount of effort , dedication and hard work went in to prepare for this competition. We had to compete against many secondary schools and the whole process was extremely stressful. When some of the bandsmen did not play well, I empathise and understand their challenges. I continued to believe in them and encourage them positively. Eventually, we managed to obtain 2 certifcates of distinctions for SYF. Through this, I believe I have emerged a better leader.
To my juniors , I urge all of you to continue believing in yourselves even when it gets tough. I hope that all of you will lead the band to greater heights.

One memorable occasion for me was getting the chance to choreograph a short piece and teach it to the rest of the members during our inaugural Dance Camp in 2021. This opportunity helped me to discover myself as a dancer, as I had never choreographed something on my own before. Teaching it to everyone also taught me patience and developed my leadership skills as we had to help each other learn the piece. I hope that our Dance CCA will continue to grow and improve as a whole. I also hope that we will take part in more competitions in our future and leave our mark on the local dance scene.

One occasion I will never forget is this year’s Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) 2021 competition. After a year long of intense practice and meticulous refnements to our play, it was fnally the time to exhibit the fruits of our labour. Despite a few unforeseen circumstances, we managed to persevere and showcase a performance truly worthy of the effort the whole CCA had put in together as a team. Through this experience, I was able to come out a better leader that understands the importance of leading the team, sustaining our team morale and fostering a sense of genuine camaraderie. Thus, after the current exco-members and I take our curtain call, I hope the CCA will continue to fourish with new members, continue to be inspired and ultimately become a place which will hone the skills of many more great student leaders through our shared experiences and a shared love for drama.

One memorable occasion that I have experienced was when I was organizing the Secondary 4 virtual Farewell & Appreciation Day, attended by the different levels. This event was going to be our last time seeing our seniors and with that I knew that I had to make sure it was going to be a memorable experience for them. This event taught me how to better manage my time and lead others to ensure we meet deadlines. What made me a better leader during this event was realizing that understanding my batch mates is an important factor in leading so that there is no confict between us and we can work together to STRIVE and achieve our goals. As the ongoing president of SPSGE until I step down in 2022, I hope my time will be impactful and that we can get EVEN better as an ensemble and achieve more awards and create new leaders through these experiences.

One memorable occasion in my time in the legion of Mary that had made me a better leader was when I was secondary 1. In secondary 1 my relationship with my seniors was very awkward as I was shy. My communication skills were also not that good either. However their kindness and openness helped me to open up and talk to them. This helped me improve my communication skills.
I hope the CCA can stay united and strong and keep the number of members and legionaries high as to me it is important to keep the tradition of Legion of Mary alive. I also hope the numbers increase as that would be great for the chatolic community.

One memorable moment in the MRL for me was when we entered the Industrial Engineering and Operations Management (IEOM) International High School STEM competition. I was put in-charge of coming up with a project which was worthy of display on an international platform for a global audience. This opportunity made me a better leader as I surprised myself in my ability to plan and lead my team in this project. My team’s hard work was rewarded when we were chosen by the IEOM judges to virtually present our project globally. I learnt that as a leader I shouldn’t be intimidated by the scale of the project and that with proper organisation I can spur my team to greater heights.

Aparticularly memorable occasion which taught me to be a better leader was during a school event where I was one of the photographers. I was paired with a less experienced junior who shadowed me as part of his on the job training. I noticed he wasn’t able to hold the camera well, due to his limited wrist movement. However, this did not deter me. Together, we worked around this and I taught him how to position his camera to take good photos. At the end of the event, I came to realise that I wasn’t just teaching him, he was also teaching me a lesson about inclusivity and adaptability. Similarly, my hopes for the CCA is that in the Media Club , be it in photography, infocomm or journalism, everyone’s passion will be ignited and together, we create cherished memories for the school.
