All through our college a voice is resounding, Promptly respond to your duty’s sweet call. Harken each one for the trumpet is sounding, Your Mater’s proclaiming her watchword to all.
Forward, her children dear, Ever with heart sincere, Render with joy to your Mater her due; All that is vile reject; Heaven will then protect, Sons of St. Patrick’s valiant and true.
Onward and Upward in life’s earnest battle, Joyously bearing the brunt of the fight, Nobly forgiving, for all that may pain you. And bravely defending the cause of the right.
Forward, her children dear, Ever with heart sincere, Render with joy to your Mater her due; All that is vile reject’ Heaven will then protect, Sons of St Patrick’s valiant and true.

BROTHER’S FOREWORD
Dear Patricians,
St Patrick’s School has certainly advanced over the years and grown in size. Whenever we, as a people, advance in years and see our community increase in numbers, it is important to deepen our spiritual resources in order to cope with the stress that would surely evolve from additional responsibilities and challenges. Therefore, we need to be in touch with our inner selves so as to gain strength to be fully alive in our community.
As we look through the pages of this yearbook, let us ask ourselves: How can I continue to be a good Patrician?
I offer you some thoughts for your reflection:
#1: Goal-driven
One of the most significant qualities of a good student is that he is goal-driven. Having both short- and long-term goals will assist you in achieving your objectives.
The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win, but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph, but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered, but to have fought well.
- Baron Pierre de Coubettin, Founder of
the modern Olympics, on the spirit of competition
#2: Perseverance
Perseverance is synonymous with dedication. You will not quit and accept incompetence, no matter how complex your subjects are. Instead, you will always put in sufficient effort, if not more, to produce excellent output or performance. Remember our school motto: Potest Qui Vult!
#3: Courteous
Respecting your teachers, school personnel and fellow students demonstrates that you are more than a good student—it demonstrates that you are a decent person. Thus, do make it a habit to greet or at the very least smile at folks you pass in the hallways. For the graduating students - utilize every moment to prepare your mind and body for future endeavors!
Potest Qui Vult!
PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
If you would prepare your heart, And stretch out your hands toward Him
Job 11:13
Dear Students, Staff and Friends of St Patrick’s, This year was an exciting time for St Patrick’s School as we were able to bring back many activities and programmes, albeit with appropriate adjustments since Covid continued to linger in the background. Innovating to meet the changing needs of our students, we blazed new trails for our students to discover new learning opportunities and become wholesome individuals. In particular, the student leadership programme has become more comprehensive and the talent development programme has begun brightly too.
Education in St Patrick’s, ensconced in the Lasallian ethos, will always reflect the confidence we have in our students’ ability, and our aim to prepare students for the challenges of the future. With a healthy emphasis on curricular and co-curricular programmes, and sterling effort by the students, there were an array of achievements that brought much joy to the school community. These myriad accolades were only possible with the wholehearted efforts of our team of committed and talented staff, who relentlessly forged creative ways to mould the students to be passionate learners and compassionate leaders. A shining example would be Mr Kang Xianbin, who was awarded the Distinguished Chinese Language Teacher award and epitomizes our commitment to teach minds, touch hearts and transform lives.
All in all, 2022 really has been a year of building back better, so that:
Each Student is Known. Each Student is Valued. Every Student Flourishes.
The wonderful song “Through it All” written by Mr Haniel Soh and expertly produced by the Music Department captures the spirit of the year beautifully.
This Yearbook, lovingly compiled by Ms Nur Azzah and the Publications Committee, is a snapshot of the highlights of 2022. May it be an enjoyable rekindling of many memorable events that warmed our hearts and encouraged our aspirations.
To the class of 2022 – I offer my congratulations and best wishes! May God bless all of you with peace, happiness and success.

I’m eternally grateful for all St Pats has taught me throughout my time here, guiding me to become who I am today. I would like to particularly thank Ms Teng, Ms Ruth Zhuo, Mr Damien Chew and all the teachers who’ve taught me, for being a beacon of inspiration and teaching me important values in life.
One key lesson I would like to highlight that St Pats has taught me is the spirit of resilience. Resilience has guided me to always put in my best effort in everything I do, be it in schoolwork, maintaining friendships or serving others. When life gets challenging for me, staying strong and persevering is my only way out. While resilience may not guarantee excellent results, the result you do achieve is bound to always be better than if you didn’t try.
To my fellow Patricians, when adversity inevitably comes your way, I hope you will never give up. Life is a constant battle. But the thing about fighting is that it’s not about how hard you can hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.
Fight to protect your dreams and reach your goals. Potest Qui Vult!

LOVE IN ACTION

During the programme, my friends and I were tasked to hand out tissues to strangers. Initially, I was terrified. Not only did we have to leave school, we also had to pluck up our courage to talk to complete strangers, most of whom were a lot older than us. However, I soon realised that it was much easier than I had predicted. My teachers encouraged me and my friends were there to step in when I was nervous. At the end of the day, it was very rewarding to see the faces of the members of the public who looked like they appreciated listening to our sharing about how we can be kind and more compassionate on our daily bus rides.

My experience was deeply fulfilling because my group and I were able to help the Uncle by cleaning his home and bringing some cheer to his life. This reminded me that there are always people in need of some help and kindness and that even the littlest of actions have the power to bring positivity into the lives of others. Furthermore, the experience also reminded me of how privileged and fortunate I am and gave me the opportunity to practise values such as humility and respect.

The beach cleaning activity helped my classmates and I realise the importance of beach cleaners who keep our environment clean. In the few hours we spent at the beach, my friends and I collected a multitude of trash ranging from plastic bags, glass bottles, glass shards, styrofoam boxes and even half eaten chicken wings. Additionally, we found numerous cigarette buds. While the entire activity was tiring, it allowed my friends and I to bond over our shared appreciation of our cleaners and our new sense of purpose to conserve our environment.

WELCOME TO ST PATRICK’S SCHOOL
Every day brings a different challenge, but also brings the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of young people. I find teaching to be an extremely fulfilling career as it allows me to learn and grow together with the students that I am educating. It is always heartening to see their growth and improvement as a result of our hard work. I succeed when my students succeed. I would want to be a teacher to teach my students the right moral values, not just only focusing on their academic results. Only if they know how to become a better person, then they will be able to accomplish things with success.
I see teaching as my vocation to ensure that our youths grow to be worthy global citizens and be the best that they can be to pursue their dreams and aspirations. My motivation for teaching is not only that the lessons I teach today, give meaning, purpose, and hope for the students tomorrow, but also for me to continue learning alongside everyone I encounter. I am thrilled to be at St. Patrick’s School and be part of the mission that the La Sallian brothers had initiated- to touch hearts, engage minds, and transform lives.
Counselling to some may be a punishment, but to others, it may be a form of support in their stressful times. It has been stigmatized and shunned away by many not just in school but also in the society. Nevertheless, being a counsellor in St. Patrick’s School has provided me opportunities to use my skills and training to support students who might be facing challenges in their academics, emotional or family issues. What keeps me going in this line is the progress and transformation of each student that I cross path with as they journey towards their potential in life.
“Let them do more on their own than you think they can. They will learn and rise to the occasion. Prepare the child for the path, not the path for the child.” This resonates with me on many different levels and reminds me that teaching is truly much more than the content of the subjects that I teach. I firmly believe that students are capable of being so much more and I am glad to be able to guide and take part in their journey of growth. I also feel very blessed to be part of a supportive community that encourages me to be the best I can be.
Through my years in teaching, students and colleagues have taught me invaluable life-lessons about being patient, kind and compassionate. These values guide my actions and make me more aware of the struggles that everyone faces, visible or otherwise. Education to me is the great equalizer; a way for individuals from all walks of life to manifest what they aspire for themselves and their family. As an individual, I feel blessed to be part of St. Patrick’s School. As a teacher, it will always be my privilege to share in my students’ journey of self-discovery and watch them become the person they are meant to be.
“Teaching Science is my passion. It’s also the reason I have a headache, drink too much milk tea and eat too many carbs.” Science is so much more than just memorizing facts and equations – if we can learn to think scientifically and critically, we will be smarter and richer people. I want to challenge teachers to reimagine school science and develop better ways for students to learn. My hope is to nurture and ignite student curiosity by involving them in making sense of the world and the science ideas underlying natural events.

FAREWELL, MR PAUL LEONG!
As a school, we were sad to hear that our Vice-Principal, Mr Paul Leong, has been posted out to another school for the next academic year. With his affable and caring personality, Mr Leong has been a reassuring and constant presence around the school, appreciated by both staff and students. He has definitely made his impact felt and we wish him nothing but the best as he embarks on the next chapter. All the best, Mr Leong! We will miss you.
A Message from Mr Paul Leong
When I first arrived here, five years ago, it was not by choice but because I was posted here by the Ministry of Education. I didn’t know anyone here before I joined the school. This reminds me of some of you in the school whom I have spoken with, who are here in St Pats because your parents or uncles wanted you to be here.
However, when I learnt that St Pats is a Lasallian school, I started to see my presence here in the school in a new light. Like more than half of you here from St Stephen’s and SJIJ, I grew up in St Mary’s - a Lasallian School in Sabah, East Malaysia. I didn’t realise how the schools were connected until I heard the school rally for the first time being sung at this Parade Square during my first ever school assembly. Though I grew up in a Malay medium school in Malaysia, the school rally was in English - exactly the same as the one we sing here at St Pats or in any Lasallian school in Singapore. That made me smile.
Being in a Lasallian school, we need to realise we are not just in any school. We are in a school with a long heritage and which is a member of the global family of Lasallian Schools. There is a Patrician Pride we all share and have a duty to protect and continue to strengthen. St Pats will be celebrating its 90th anniversary next year. Let’s reflect and think of the implications of our actions, and inactions, during our time in this school.
I have a big reason to smile everyday in this school. I smile because many of you make me smile - Patricians, colleagues and everyone in the school, even the noisy green parrots and the visiting family of otters. I like belonging here and I like contributing to the school life here. In a privileged way, we here can ask for God’s blessings as a school every day.
As such, I want to bring a smile to everyone that I meet everyday, be it a student or a colleague. Every one of us has our own life circumstances because of our home, family, friends, colleagues or the environment we are in. Trust me when I say that a warm and sincere smile from someone helps tremendously to get others through any day of the week.
A smile and with many of you, a fist pump or a wave from afar, gets me boosted and energized We are close and for those of you whom I had the chance to speak with a bit more, we are even closer. You know who you are - those of you whom I call my best friends!
A smile is also a way to show care. As teachers and students, we are interested in your well-being and we care. Every one of us naturally would be happy when someone cares for us as it makes us realise we are important to someone. So do reflect - who are the people you should smile to and put effort into making them smile?
Let me also share some words of wisdom which I received from my brother: In the Journey of Life, we pass pleasures and pain. There will be sunshine and rain, there will be loss and gain. But we must learn to smile again and again.
Finally, I am proud because I can see the tremendous improvements that have taken place, especially in the last two years, and I look forward to seeing the exciting plans and changes that are going to happen in the next few years. I am sad because I am not able to journey on with everyone here to make St Pats the best boy school in the East. I am sad because I will miss everyone.
I want to end here with a short request to God:
Almighty God, everything happens in your Time And we know that in all things, YOU work for the good of those who love YOU who have been called according to Your purpose.
Help us not to take people we meet or the good school experiences we have for granted. Help us to show appreciation and graciousness wherever and to whoever we can.
Bless and protect all of us in St Patrick’s and also our loved ones. Help us to be a better version of ourselves and for all our young Patricians, they will continue to grow and develop to be Boys of Faith, Leaders with Heart and Gentlemen with Purpose.
Amen!
Thank you for being a big part of my life’s moments. Thank you, Mr Minjoot. Thank you, Ms Ng. Thank you, colleagues. Thank you, Patricians.
Take care and God Bless everyone at St. Patrick’s.
Mr Paul Leong Vice-Principal
Well Wishes for Mr Paul Leong
Dear Mr Leong,
On behalf of the Student Council, I would like to thank you for your meritorious service to our school and to our community. Thank you for always being supportive and encouraging towards us. Your zeal and determination in connecting with students through shared participation and frequent interactions have made our school a warmer place to be in, and also strengthened our school spirit.
Your frequent posts on Instagram about keeping a healthy lifestyle, by posting photos of yourself exercising and doing your part to raise funds for the school to build a lift, have motivated many to do the same. Your blogs on your meaningful interactions with students & staff, your words of advice, and celebration of others’ achievements have also helped create a positive growth mindset among students.
We are forever grateful for your hard work and contribution to our school and to our community. We will definitely miss you and your great sense of humour. Thank you for everything and we wish you all the best as you embark on your next journey!
Shane Goh, 3 Respect on behalf of the Student Council
Dear Mr Leong,
Thank you for being the best Vice principal and my emotional support pillar. I really enjoyed the times where I spent talking to you and us discussing about things like Pokemon Go and stuff in general. I will definitely miss your presence in this school and your charisma.
All the best in your new school!
Kaiser Chao, 4 Self Discipline
Mr Leong is one of the most inspiring and kind teachers you will find in St Pats. You can ask any student and they will tell you how great he is. I’ve even met old boys outside of school who have asked me how Mr Leong has been doing. That is how great of an impact he has made on every student’s life, such that they remember him even after they graduate!
When I was going through some personal challenges, Mr Leong actually talked to me and asked me why I had joined St Pats. He then got me to reflect with him and this helped me to find a purpose and goal. He has truly inspired me to strive to be the best version of myself.
Mr Leong will go out of his way to ensure you are doing well. It’s heartbreaking to hear that he’ll be leaving this school but all good things come to an end and our blessing will be passed on to another school.
All the best, Mr Leong! May you touch many more lives in time to come.

STUDENT COUNCIL OPERATIONS
Given the privilege to be part of the Student Council, there are a few ways that I and my team of the heads of each branch contribute to the school. Firstly and most importantly, I help to ensure that my fellow schoolmates are following the school rules. For example, when I see a student with his hair too long or shirt untucked, I would give them a warning and advise them. Secondly, I also help to plan and run school events for the school. For example, I was involved in helping to run Teachers’ Day this year. Last but not least, I also contribute to the school by doing my best and setting a good example for the rest of the students. I will ensure that we will continue to lead the school with pride and dedication.
Bhole
Anish Mahesh, 3 Integrity President of SPS Student Council 2022
Being the Vice-President of the Student Council over the past year, I have contributed to the well-being of the school through various ways. Firstly, representing the Student Council, it is my duty and obligation to enforce the school rules. Secondly, I also led various school wide activities such as this year’s Open House and CCA fair. Last but not least, I do my best to lead by example not just in the Student Council, but the entire school.
Manini Giacomo Francesco, 3 Self Discipline Vice-President of SPS Student Council 2022 Head of SPS Operations Committee 2022
STUDENT COUNCIL CATHOLIC ACTIVITIES
We contribute to the school by continuously strengthening the faith in our school community. We provide guidance for students who seek help. Our committee will continue to serve the school by educating our peers to constantly contribute to the common good by becoming active and caring members of the communities in which they live. With this, we hope we would also strive to ensure that values taught in our religion are ingrained in our hearts, forever.
Joel Philip Phang Yong Jie, 3 Lasalle
Vice-President of SPS Student Council 2022
Head of SPS Catholic Activities Committee 2022
STUDENT COUNCIL WELFARE
“To be Leaders with Heart”. Our goal has been to make school life easier and more enjoyable, and to nurture a more caring school environment. My EXCOs and I from the Welfare Branch are honoured to have been given the opportunity to lead the newly created branch in contributing to the school we regard as our 2nd home. Over the past few months, my branch and I have worked hard to organise various activities including Class Appreciation Day, International Friendship Day, National Day, Teachers’ Day, Exam Motivation and Sec 4/5 Well-Wishes. These opportunities have allowed us to hone our leadership skills and we are glad our efforts have paid off. After witnessing the fun our fellow schoolmates had during these occasions, we are determined to continue the good work before the leadership transition in Term 2 next year.
Shane Goh, 3 Respect Vice-President of SPS Student Council 2022 Head of SPS Welfare Committee 2022
STUDENT COUNCIL PUBLICITY
As the Publicity Branch, we strive to improve how the school is viewed by our peers as well as the public in order to bring great pride to the Lasallian and Patrician name. We drum up publicity for school events and activities using both traditional and new media platforms like Instagram. As a dynamic team, we consistently emphasise the importance of quality work together with our Executive Committee team.
Rohith Roshan, 3 Lasalle
Vice-President of SPS Student Council 2022
Head of SPS Publicity Committee 2022
STUDENT COUNCIL SPIRIT
Our Spirit Branch believes in this one quote - “Leadership is an action, not a position.” We are all really humbled to be able to serve and contribute. This year, we came up with many uplifting cheers. For example, we led the spectators to cheer for our football school team in this year’s Football National School Games. We engender unity and togetherness among Patricians. In this way, we are able to instill pride in all Patricians.

ATHLETICS
Track to Success!
Despite a two year hiatus due to the pandemic, athletes in both B and C Division showed their grit and determination to win in the National Schools Track and Field Championships this year.
Our athletes consistently pushed the limits, putting in hours under the heat to achieve excellence for the school. Their efforts were rewarded when they qualified for the Finals for a host of individual events such as the 100m, 200m, and 400m run. Both divisions also qualified for the Finals which saw our athletes put up a valiant effort in the 4 x 100 m and 4 x 400 m relay events. The C Division team clinched a respectable 7th position for the 400m, as well as a remarkable 2nd position for the 100m and 200m events. The B Division also performed admirably, securing 4th position for the High Jump event.
Our team is thankful for the experienced coaching by Coach Hamkah Afik and Coach Tang Ngai Kin who continue to instill the values of perseverance and belief in our athletes and led us to victory this year. May we continue to benefit from their guidance in the years to come!

Excellence through Preparation
Undaunted by the challenges posed by the pandemic, our budding guitarists have continued to create meaningful experiences in the CCA. Leveraging on ICT, our members maintained strong connections by hosting key events such as our Secondary 4 Farewell Ceremony and team bonding days, online via Zoom. Over the past 2 years, the ensemble continued to overcome restrictions preventing a physical concert by performing and broadcasting their performance to the public through livestream on Facebook.
Our young guitarists continue to embody perseverance in pushing through considerable challenges to accomplish present victories. Under the expert guidance of our conductor Mr Ow Leong San, the ensemble has augmented its sound quality and music-making experience. As our ensemble members continue to sharpen their skills, and strive to deliver enjoyable performances to the audience, we are convinced that the future holds much promise of excellence. LEGION OF MARY
Who is she that comes forth as the morning rising, fair as the moon, bright as the sun, terrible as an army set in battle array?
The Legion of Mary is a Catholic CCA in school, which focuses on the spiritual group and development of all Catholic students. Members meet up on a weekly basis for prayer and spiritual formation, taking inspiration and guidance from Mother Mary, as our role model to bring Christ to everyone around us.
The Legion of Mary in St. Patrick’s School is compulsory for all Sec 1 Catholic students to attend and participate in, so as to grow in brotherhood and ethos of the larger Catholic community in Singapore.
We also assist in school Masses and conduct the Daily Chapel Morning Prayer. We also work with other Legion of Mary groups in other schools and churches in Singapore to host events such as the Annual General Reunion and the Acies - renewal of the Legion vows.

MEDIA RESOURCE LIBRARY
Building a school library of the future
Our library is not only a treasure trove of information, it serves as a community hub to support collaborative efforts and provide a conducive environment for staff and students to work in. Our student librarians are passionate reading ambassadors who help to maintain and manage the library space.
Student librarians partake in various training programmes by Civica. These programmes allow them to visit different subject matters such as the protection of urban biodiversity, local food sustainability initiatives and even how to apply hashtag searching across social media. They engage in meaningful discussions and present their findings to review and share their knowledge of the topics.

NATIONAL CADET CORPS (NCC) AIR
To Serve with Pride and Dedication!
Fuelled by their camaraderie and grounded in their training, the St. Patrick’s NCC Air Unit bested schools from across Singapore, including long time champions, in their very first venture at the National Air Race organized by Asia Flight Simulation Centre. Formative experiences that led to their victory included The Flight Experience Programs (FEP), which allowed cadets to board RSAF aircrafts such as the C-130 and F-50. In addition, our cadets attended cutting edge courses such as Air Simulation, Aeromodelling and Drone Flying.
Our school’s NCC Air exhibited excellence in multifarious aspects to clinch the Distinction Award in this year’s Unit Recognition. On top of rigorous training that increased our cadet’s fitness, our cadets also collaborated with the Singapore Kindness Movement to conceptualize and execute a social media campaign. Cadets also attended adventure camps such as Camp FORGE, Camp STEEL, and leadership training camps such as the Senior Specialist Leaders Course (SSLC) to prepare outstanding student leaders in the CCA to be resilient leaders.

NATIONAL CADET CORPS (NCC) LAND
Motto:
To Strive With Pride and Dedication
Core Values:
Loyalty to Country, Uprightness, Leadership, Discipline, Commitment & Responsibility, Care for Fellow Cadets, Adventurous Spirit and Safety.
The NCC (Land) of St. Patrick’s School was awarded Distinction in the Unit Recognition for 2021. This achievement, yet again, is a testament of the dedication and commitment of Teachers and Cadets. With the guidance of the teachers, the senior cadets planned and carried out weekly trainings for the junior cadets.
These training sessions mainly target 3 key aspects of the development of the cadet, which are in line with that of NCC HQ - resilient mind, strong body and committed heart. Cadets are put through obstacles to learn how to overcome setbacks and emerge as confident individuals. Trainings include foot drills, physical fitness training, weapon handling and lessons on military knowledge. To inject elements of fun into the training schedule, the unit carries out laser tag competitions, learning journeys and takes part in cluster training with other school units.
Given the responsibility to lead training, senior cadets hone their leadership skills, mastering the fine balance between being firm yet benevolent. Standards are maintained. Bonds are built.
NCC (Land) is a CCA that works together as a unit to foster a sense of belonging to the CCA, school and country.

To lead with Resilience, Integrity, Service, Excellence, to RISE above.
In 2021, the changes in Safe Management Measures saw our NPCC cadets display resilience and adaptability to plan and execute training sessions that prioritise the safety of our members while engaging them at the same time. Some of our notable accomplishments were having our cadets spread awareness of crime and cybercrime prevention to their schoolmates, and our Cadet Leaders teaching the juniors drills via zoom and designing campcraft lesson packages for the unit. These efforts led to all our cadets attaining proficiency in different skills and being promoted to their next rank, and culminated in us achieving Gold for the Unit Overall Proficiency Award.
This year, our cadets are embracing the opportunity to partake in more activities and competitions, such as the Adventure Training Camps and Inter-Unit eCSI Competition. We also see our newly appointed Cadet Leaders rising to the occasion of creating even more meaningful experiences for the unit in the hope of greater achievements to come.

Weekly trainings provide players the opportunity to hone their skills with great precision whilst the collective dedication of both the coach and teachers have been crucial in developing values such as resilience and good sportsmanship amongst the team members.
SPS Squash provides a range of leadership opportunities for the development and holistic growth of the players. By mentoring younger players, senior players validate their leadership skills as well as develop their self-confidence.
Playing every match with poise, pride and positive sportsmanship, the team has indeed brought honor to our school at this year’s NSG!

TENNIS
The ball is in your court, give your best shot!
St. Patrick’s Tennis team has been training hard for the National School Games (NSG) despite the 2-year hiatus during the pandemic. Our players have maintained a deep commitment to sharpening their skills on the court and maintaining their fitness levels off it. Training hard and dutifully attending every coaching session even during the school holidays, the tennis team has shown remarkable commitment to the game.
The B division school team fought valiantly to emerge amongst the top 8 schools in Singapore. With their thirst for success, the C division team too will continue to do their best to bring glory to the school in their upcoming NSG.
