Brother’s Foreword
As I look through the pages of the Patrician yearbook every year, I am touched by what our boys have achieved both in their studies as well as what they enjoyed doing - a lot of our judgements are based on what we learned at St Pat’s.
- Brother Collin Wee
Dear Patricians,
In many ways, the pictures and the stories in this yearbook resonate with me. St Pat’s was more than just studies and exams year after year; the school was a haven for me to meet and chill out - a place I called my second home.
I hope as you turn the pages of this yearbook, you take a long, loving look at the activities of the school throughout this year. Look at the smiles on the faces of Patricians and look at how they enjoyed their CCAs. As I look through the pages of the Patrician yearbook every year, I am touched by what our boys have achieved both in their studies as well as their areas of interest. As time goes by, I realise that many of our judgements are based on what we learnt at St Pat’s. Whether good or bad, these had an impact on our lives, allowing us to pick up life lessons to apply that in our adult lives.
The events of this year show a clear message of HOPE. All the activities, as seen in the photographs here, were carried out with such cooperation and goodwill from our parent volunteers, staff and students, that it reflects well on the type of community we are. Without detracting from our vision, we have demonstrated once again that a community which pursues its goals regardless of race, language or religion is a power to be reckoned with and has a special dynamism.
Potest Qui Vult! We have made a mark for 90 years! Let us keep up our fervour and good spirits, continuing to make progress as good Patricians strongly attached to our beloved school. Let us display those qualities of sensitivity and thoughtfulness which are so invaluable and appreciated by all.
Brother Collin Wee FSC, BBM, PBM
principal’s message
Dear Students, Staff and Friends of St Patrick’s,
This year being our 90th anniversary, I’ve asked many a Patrician what the school has meant to them. Their replies, replete with anecdotes, is perhaps best summarized as follows:
St Patrick’s School is the next best place to home, A place where no one is ever alone.
Where staff guide with care, And friends are always there.
From morning till the sun sets, Excellence is a Mindset.
With pens and “chrome” books in hand, Each boy strives to understand.
The corridors echo with laughter and glee, As students run around carefree.
The school abounds with places to play, And make memories every single day.
St Patricks School is where i grew, And learned everything i knew.
It’s a place that will always hold, A special place in my heart of gold
Truly there’s something about St Patrick’s School, Indeed there appears a golden rule;
Perhaps it’s the love that everyone feels, Aye In God’s Presence, it does real feel !
In gratitude for 90 years of blessings, Patricians resound with hope and thanksgiving. Render with joy to your Mater her due; Sons of St. Patrick’s valiant and true!
As we recollect our history and legacy, we are indeed filled with thanksgiving and pride that we have reached this historic milestone of 90 years and that so many from all walks of life have a love for the school. The anniversary song “We will never dream alone” composed by Mr Haniel Soh and wonderfully produced by the musical talents across the school community, encapsulates our hope that the school will continue to flourish for many years to come, as we humbly pray that God continues to bless us and give success to the work of our hands.
This Yearbook, lovingly compiled by the Publications Committee, is a snapshot of the events and achievements of 2023. Enjoy it!
To the class of 2023: Be Good. Feel Good. Do Good.
Potest Qui Vult!
May God bless all of us with peace, happiness and success.
Mark Minjoot, Principal
I will give thanks to you Lord, with all my heart. I will tell of your wonderful deeds.

Our Mater’s Call
The theme for our SPS 90 celebration is drawn from the iconic School Rally line: “All through our college, a voice is resounding.” This powerful line encapsulates the profound Patrician spirit that binds our community together.
We know that various other lines from the Rally also strike a chord with Patricians. To unearth these sentiments, we reached out to various members Patrician alumni, asking them to reveal the Rally lines that hold a special place in their hearts.

Our Mater’s Call
Onwards and Upwards through Life’s Earnest Battles
Yaich Omar Class of 2019
Why does this line resonate with you?
Many of us sing the School Rally every morning without taking notice of the lyrics. This phrase itself has pushed me through my toughest times. It motivates me and encourages me to keep striving no matter how hard life gets and no matter the challenges we face. The phrase “onward and upward” reminds me to keep moving forward and to not let the past drag me down. It encourages me to do my best in everything I do and be the best version of myself.
“In life’s earnest battle” reminds me that there is no such thing as too difficult, too tough or impossible. As a Patrician, we can do anything we put our minds to and as long as we stay resilient and never give up, we will succeed!
During my polytechnic years, there were many ups and downs and many sleepless nights completing revisions and projects but no matter how hard it got, this phrase in the School Rally reminds me that I am capable of more than I know, and to keep going strong.
What are some of your hopes and dreams for St Patrick’s School?
I hope that St Pats continues to grow and nurture future Patricians, for Patricians to continue excelling and grow to be successful boys who commit to the values of Honesty, Humility and Humanity.

Also a special mention to my English and Literature teachers - Ms Shaline Tan who turned me from a poetry-hating to a poetry-obsessed student, and Mr Haniel Soh who exposed us to the intricacies of language and how they shed light on societal issues/concepts. Last but not least, Ms Azzah, without whom I’d never have been able to find the words to express myself

SPS90 Aerial Mosaic
On 16 Feb 2023, 1200 staff and students came together to create SPS90. More than just an aerial mosaic, it is a rallying call, reminding all Patricians to cherish our past, celebrate our present and embrace the future.
love-in-action
The various initiatives and partnerships carried out for Love in Action 2023 were inspired by St. Theresa of Calcutta’s invocation that “Faith in action is love, and love in action is service”.
love-in-action sec-1
Our Secondary One brothers partnered with the Land Transport Authorities to serve MRT stations throughout the country. There, they distributed tissue packets with personally designed visual reminders of caring behaviours that commuters can exhibit to one another. To prepare for this occasion, our Secondary One students even rehearsed short “speeches” to share the importance of neighbourliness on our daily commute. This event strengthened our belief that while we may be ordinary, we possess the extraordinary ability to make a difference in this world!
Embracing the role of a caring commuter champion was profoundly rewarding. Witnessing people pause amidst their hectic routines to lend a ear to our message genuinely touched my heart. I hope to discover fresh avenues through which I can make a positive impact on society.

Our Secondary Two continued our annual partnership with NParks by visiting East Coast Park to serve in four different ways- beach cleaning, tree planting, tree inspection and sustainable fishing. These activities helped Patricians to better appreciate the interconnection between man and nature.
This day reminded us to do good to the best of our abilities. We were reminded to give back to the community and share our blessings. No matter how small and insignificant our efforts may seem, every bit of litter picked contributed to a great outcome!
- Xavier Soong, 2 Integrity
love-in-action sec-3
Our Secondary Threes partnered with Montfort Cares to aid the elderly living in Marine Parade through data collection. The data collected will help Montfort Cares plan additional initiatives to aid underserved parts of the community.
Two classes of students also took part in an Intergenerational Learning Programme where they taught the elderly useful IT skills. These interactions reminded the elderly that they were not alone and taught our students the importance of gratitude and giving back!
The experience taught me to persevere as we faced multiple rejections from residents who didn’t want to open their doors. However, we pushed through and were able to get some survey responses. The experience also helped me to be more confident. After speaking to the residents, I became better at phrasing my thoughts in a casual yet respectful manner.

Tribute to Mr Richard Magnus
Our Love-in-Action Day began with a heartfelt tribute to an exceptional son of St Patrick’s - the late Mr Richard Magnus.
His remarkable record of dedicated public service embodied the core values of Faith, Service, and Community that unite all Patricians. We were also deeply moved to receive the generous contribution from the Magnus family in support of our Afterschool Programme.
May the legacy of Mr. Richard Magnus serve as an enduring source of inspiration for all Patricians. In the wise words of Mr. Richard Magnus himself, it is the ordinary man and woman - individuals like you and me - who possess the extraordinary ability to make a difference in this world.

by
Patrician of the Year
Good morning Guest of Honour, Dr Bill Foo, Mr Minjoot, Mr Tan, Ms Ng, distinguished guests, parents, Patricians and teachers.
As I stand here today, I am filled with overwhelming gratitude towards my teachers and peers who have accompanied me on my journey as a Patrician. Your presence and influence have impacted me greatly. Every interaction with you, big or small, has shaped me into the person I am today.
When I first entered St Patrick’s School, I had a mission to be the best version of myself, and to strive for excellence. What excellence meant to me evolved over my years in St Pats.
Let me share with you what I mean. One defining moment for me was back in Secondary One. I had arrived at my class one morning to find a classmate sobbing outside and clutching onto a ruined piece of work. Unsure of what was going on, I had to decide how to handle the situation. Do I ignore this or do I intervene? I chose to intervene - but still, I was at a loss. I did not know how to comfort my classmate. All I could do was force the student who had spilled milo on my classmate’s work to apologise.
I emerged from that experience feeling that I had failed in comforting my classmate. It made me question - what can I do better next time. How can I grow to become a leader with heart? A leader who is more empathetic and compassionate; a leader who shows that he cares through his effort; a leader who is always there - a dependable figure for his community.
Then, when I was in Secondary 3, I had the honour of serving as the Vice President of the newly established Student Council. There, I felt that I could make a positive difference through serving the school and shaping the experiences of the student body. However, was I truly a leader with heart? I still wasn’t sure.
It was only when I was nearing the end of my leadership term, in Secondary 4, when I was overseeing the Secondary 1 Orientation, that I felt I had finally evolved into the kind of leader I wanted
to be. One day, when I was checking on the progress of a tower-building game, I came across a group of students in conflict. Teamwork was lacking and a boy was threatening to pop the balloon which was a key piece of their masterpiece. I pulled the balloon villain aside and listened to his perspective - I realised that all he wanted to do was to be seen and heard by his peers. He just wanted to feel like he mattered. The matter was resolved amicably and no balloons were popped.
This was momentous growth for me. Back in secondary 1, I would have gone in and solved the situation through a show of anger and harsh words but instead, I listened and was simply there for someone, helping them to feel seen and heard. Finally, I felt I was someone who did justice to the vision of the school I love. From a boy of faith, I had evolved into a leader with heart.
And today, I stand in front of you as a gentleman of purpose.
To my peers, and my juniors, let us always keep in our hearts the school’s motto of Potest Qui Vult! He who wills, can. Never give up. The journey to your end goal is winding. Throughout your journey, you’ll fail, and you’ll make mistakes countless times, but what matters you learn something and you stand right back up again. See your failures and regrets as stepping stones for growth, rather than hurdles and chains weighing you down. I hope that despite all your past mistakes and setbacks, you will never lose sight of your goal and STRIVE to be the best you can.
As we look towards the future, I hope that our school continues to nurture and inspire Patricians to strive for excellence. I know the tremendous care the school has shown me will remain its hallmark. As it has been for 90 years, so it shall be for 90 years more, or even longer than that. The future is bright for St Pats, and equally bright for the young men whose lives it will continue to shape with loving commitment.
Thank you.

Welcome to St. Patrick’s
Mr. Barnabas Tan
When I first received my posting to St. Patrick’s School, I thought it was a mistake because it is so far away from where I live in the West! However, having been in St. Patrick’s School for the past year now, I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this Lasallian family, touching hearts, engaging minds and transforming lives. Every morning, as I walk past the statue of Saint John De LaSalle, I am reminded of and inspired by the actions of our Founder, who cared for the last, the lost and the least. As I step into the shelter of our school building, our motto “Potest Qui Vult” stands as a visual reminder to me that there are no secrets to success - it is the result of preparation, hard work and learning from mistakes. It is a reminder to all of us too, that anything is possible if we set our minds to it. And that’s a powerful mindset each of us, and I hope our boys too, can adopt. He who wills, can!
Ms. Tan Cheng Gek Christine
I am happy to be part of the Lasallian family. Being in a mission school and starting the day off with prayers is great! It helps ground the soul and quieten the mind. Being an educator is not easy. We wear many hats throughout the day. Ultimately, the goal is to enrich the lives of students and hope they become well-rounded individuals who care not only for themselves but for the wider community. I think there is much I can learn from the boys as well and I am enjoying my journey thus far.
Mr. Goh Tze Wee Muhammad Hykel
I believe that the time spent in secondary school is one of the most important stages of our lives.
As you stand on the threshold of adulthood, secondary school is where you will make lifelong friends and learn lifelong lessons that go beyond academic success. The lessons you learn will become the cornerstone of the values you hold on to dearly throughout the rest of your lives.
To this end, I strive to ensure that as many students as possible learn something meaningful in the time that they spend in school every day. I look forward to seeing my boys grow up to become morally upright Patricians. It brings me great joy to know that I have played a small part in their growth.
Welcome to St. Patrick’s
Mr. Joseph Teo Huay Meng
I find satisfaction in a lesson when I see a sparkle in the eyes of my students as soon as they grasp a new concept or understand a point explained. My work is meaningful when my students become better versions of themselves. So, I often encourage all my students to strive to be better, not in comparison to others, but to be a better version of who they themselves were yesterday. Help one another and you will find the fruits of your labor even sweeter. As someone new to the St. Patrick’s family, I feel at home because of the spirituality of the school campus, and I admire the warmth of everyone in the school. May we all grow to love God and one another even more as He continues to mould us to become the best version of ourselves.
Miss Nur Syifa Saiful Ali
No two days are exactly the same in St. Patrick’s School. Initially, the thought of teaching in a single gender school was daunting to me. Today, I am ever grateful for the opportunity to walk these grounds and educate future generations of Patricians. My students show me who they are, who they want to be and what change they want to make in the world in a myriad of ways, every single day. They show me how proud they are of what they have learnt. And me? I promise I will do the same!
Mr. Akmal Zakwan Zulkifli
Every student can do great and extraordinary things. They may be the cause of the next great scientific discovery, they may move the nation with great foresight, or they may even be great fathers, brothers or sons to their loved ones. At the heart of any teachers’ teaching and learning is the students – and that includes identifying each student’s strengths and weaknesses, behaviors and attitudes, and understanding the challenges they face. St. Patrick’s is my first school as a full-fledged teacher. It has been, and will continue to be, a period of continuous learning for me. I look forward to growing as a person and as a teacher with the boys here at St. Patrick’s School. I hope to always put these gentlemen at the heart of my very own teaching and learning so I can inspire them to achieve great and extraordinary things.

If you believe, you become. This is the mantra that guided the team as we trained, worked and played our way to a Top 3 placing. Success is a marathon and not a sprint. The 3rd/4th placing match at Jalan Besar Stadium was only 90 minutes. However, the work started all the way back in August 2022. We dreamt of giving our school, the Patrician family, the gift of a memorable Jalan Besar experience. We understood that achieving this required every team member to give their best on and off the field. United by this shared goal, we accomplished it with our heads held high!
May the next ten years be filled with countless goals, triumphs, and unforgettable moments on and off the field!

My faith has blossomed through the practice of praying the rosary, engaging with the Catena, and participating in the meaningful Allocutio sessions led by the Tribunes every Friday. These experiences have deepened my spirituality and taught me to incorporate prayer into my daily routine seamlessly. Discovering the profound impact of the rosary and its special significance when approached with sincerity has been a remarkable revelation. As I reflect on this journey, I am grateful for the opportunities to strengthen my faith and look forward to continuing to draw inspiration from these practices throughout my life.
