Once registration is open for a pupil’s year of possible entry, families may visit us on an open day before submitting an application for 11+, 13+ and 16+. Registered families and pupils may also visit on one of our group tours. For 7+ and 8+, open day invitations are available for families who have registered. Smaller group tours are also available for parents who have not yet registered. At all admissions events, there is an opportunity to talk to staff and pupils.

Entry at each level is academically selective. All registered candidates will be required to sit an exam. If successful, they will be invited for an interview after which offers may be made. We value the opportunity to meet prospective pupils and parents, to show them around the school, to explain what we do, and to provide a sense of who we are. ENTRY AT 11+ Boys from any state or independent school may apply to join St Paul’s Juniors at age 11+. We admit 36 pupils in Year 7. They combine with the current 72 pupils in the year group to form six classes of 18. All candidates are assessed in Year 6 for entry at 11+. To apply, parents need to complete the online application form, pay the £50 exam fee and upload a copy of their son’s passport. Only candidates who are offered and accept a place will be required to formally register. At 11+, applicants take the ISEB Common Pre-Test at St Paul’s School in early December. Parents must register their child with ISEB via their website. Successful candidates are invited back in January to sit written tests in Mathematics and ReferencesEnglish.are sought after the ISEB Common Pre-Test from the Head of the candidate’s current school. Boys who perform well in the written tests are invited back for an interview. At the same time, parents have the opportunity to meet the Head. Offers are made in February.

Those who do not attend schools following the St Paul’s prescribed curriculum in Years 7 and 8 will be required to show via school references that they continue to demonstrate good conduct and academic progress. We may also require them to sit the Common Entrance Exam in core subjects and achieve a minimum of 70%.

• A place on the Reserve List At the start of Year 8, (for those wishing to be considered), an updated Head Teacher report will be requested and candidates will be required to sit a short assessment in English and Mathematics. Following this, some may be offered an unconditional place.
Approximately 90 boys join us at the start of Year 9 from a wide range of schools, mostly from the London area. These combine with the pupils moving up through St Paul’s Juniors to make a year group of around 180.

At this time, we will request a school report from their Head Teacher detailing academic strengths, interests and character. This report and the pre-test results are reviewed and inform our decision on which boys to call forward to written exams and interview. Parents and schools will be notified of our decision in mid-December. All selected interview candidates will be invited to sit written assessments, in English and Mathematics, in early January.

All 16+ applicants are invited to sit the entrance examinations in their four chosen A Level subjects. Each paper will take 45 minutes. The examinations take place at St Paul’s School at the beginning of November. Overseas candidates may sit the exams on the same date at their local British Council providing we give prior agreement (applicants will be responsible for making initial contact and incur any associated cost). The exam syllabi are based on the current GCSE syllabi. We are aware that most applicants will only be part way through their Year 11 GCSE courses and studying a range of syllabi. The papers are designed to test analytical skills and problem solving ability more than factual recall.
Entrance Exams
Offers will be conditional on GCSE (or IGCSE) grades. Candidates are expected to achieve at least eight passes including English and Mathematics, at least six should be grade 8 or 9, with no more than one grade 6, the remainder at grade 7 or Overseasabove.
Study Art – will be required to bring a portfolio of their recent work for Studyinspection.Engineering – will be asked to bring any design work they have Studycompleted.Music – will have the opportunity to perform a short piece of music on their main instrument.
There is no written examination for Art or Extended Projects. Candidates selecting Ancient History, Computing, Economics, Philosophy, Politics or Theatre Studies may not have studied these subjects before. A detailed understanding of these subjects is not necessary. In the examinations candidates will be required to analyse and critically appraise supplied material. No past papers are available.
The deadline for applications is Friday 23 September 2022. This is also the date for receipt of UKiset results from international candidates (please see page 10). There is no registration fee due upon application, a fee is due if an offer is accepted. Upon receipt of an application, we will request a detailed academic reference from the applicant’s current school. Please ensure that the school is informed that they will be approached for a reference.
There will be a single paper in Mathematics. Candidates that have selected single subject Mathematics and those who have also selected Further Mathematics with Mathematics will sit the same paper. The paper is designed to test understanding and problem solving skills in algebra, geometry, numerical and graphical work.
Study Theatre Studies – will have the opportunity to perform a short piece provided by the school.
Offers Places are offered to candidates who, in all stages of the Admissions process, demonstrate scholarship, can comfortably meet the high academic standards of the school and are likely to make a notable contribution to school life. Candidates are notified on 1 December.

ENTRY AT 16+ Approximately 20 pupils join the Eighth Form at the start of Year 12 to complete their A Level study and prepare for university admission. Many come from a range of London schools, state and independent, and some join us as boarding students from other parts of the UK, Europe and from countries all around the Thoseworld.applying for 16+ entry should be 16 years old on 31 August prior to starting in September. To apply, please complete the online application form that opens at the start of June, 15 months before entry. Applicants will need to submit preliminary choices of the four A Level subjects they wish to study; details of available courses, including Extended Project Qualifications (EPQs), are listed online and in the prospectus.
The examination marks are reviewed and up to 40 candidates who have performed well in all their chosen subjects are invited back for interview.
Interview Selected applicants are interviewed by senior teaching staff in each of their chosen subjects. Interviews take place at St Paul’s on Saturday 19 November 2022. No exceptions can be made to the date or location of the interview. Candidates wishing to: Board – will also be interviewed by the Housemaster and given a tour of the boarding house.
All candidates also sit a problem solving paper and/or a critical thinking skills paper of 40 minutes each, depending on subject choices. All candidates will be required to write about their interests, academic aspirations and motivations for joining St Paul’s School.

10 Information for International
It is the applicant’s responsibility to make arrangements with the British Council, notify us and bear any associated costs. Papers will be emailed out to the exam centre in time for the exam.
St Paul’s requires international candidates to have a UK-based Guardian for the duration of their time at the school. The Guardian will need to meet the requirements as set out in our Guardianship Policy and Agreement. This can be found on our website. Candidates
applying for 16+
It will then be the responsibility of the student and his parents to apply for a visa at the appropriate time.
St Paul’s School will make one administration charge of £500 for UKVI visa applications. St Paul’s School complies with the duties set out by the Home Office’s UK Visa and Immigration authority.
VISA INFORMATION St Paul’s School is a UK Visas and Immigration Child student sponsor. Students who have been offered and accepted a place to study at St Paul’s School and require a visa to study in the United Kingdom will be issued a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) reference number.
If English is the applicant’s first language and they are attending a British School following the IGCSE syllabus, please get in touch with the admissions office to find out whether it is necessary to provide UKiset results.
Successful candidates will be required to attend the interview at St Paul’s on Saturday 19 November 2022. As no exceptions can be made either to the date or the venue, please ensure that you are able to attend the interview, if invited, before submitting an application. Many pupils have joined St Paul’s from overseas to study for their A Levels. We welcome overseas applications and value the diversity these pupils bring to the school community. All lessons at St Paul’s are conducted in English. The pace of learning is brisk and students need to be fluent in both written and spoken forms of the language. Candidates wishing to study for an EPQ should be at a standard to achieve an 8 or 9 in English Language GCSE (as a first Overseaslanguage).candidates are required to arrange to sit UKiset assessment tests (ukiset.com) ensuring that results reach us no later than Friday 23 September 2022.

Academic Scholarships
ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS AT 13+
For external candidates entering at 13+, the Scholarship Examinations are held annually in May. Candidates must have successfully completed the 13+ admission process and have been made and accepted a Main List offer. Candidates must also be under 14 on 1 September following the examination, and should be registered and entered for the examination by their Head Teacher. Compulsory papers are set in English, French, Geography, History, Latin, Mathematics, Science and Theology & Philosophy. There is an optional paper in Greek and candidates are encouraged to sit it if they have reached a reasonable standard. For pupils at St Paul’s Juniors, scholarships are awarded at the end of Year 8 based on performance over the previous two years and in the Year 7 & Year 8 end-of-year examinations. About 35 Scholarships are awarded each year in total to pupils from St Paul’s Juniors and external candidates. All Academic Scholarships are honorary and worth £60. They are retained until the end of a pupil’s career at St Paul’s, subject to good work and conduct.
SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS AT 17+
All pupils, regardless of when they joined the school, are eligible for Senior Scholarships. These Scholarships are worth £60 per annum and are awarded at the start of Year 13 for the final year (Upper Eighth). They are awarded on the basis of work throughout Year 12 (Lower Eighth) and performance in the end of Year 12 examinations. No new Academic Scholarships are awarded at 16+. 15 Music Scholarships
MUSIC SCHOLARSHIPS AT 11+ Once an offer of a place has been accepted for 11+ entry, suitable pupils are invited to apply for a Music Scholarship. Candidates should have reached at least Grade 5 (ABRSM/ Trinity Guildhall equivalent) on their principal instrument and will be required to perform, sight-read, respond to aural tests, complete a 20-minute written paper and answer general questions relating to their music making. Each Scholarship is honorary, worth £60 per annum plus free tuition on two instruments. Exhibitions are also available and consist of free tuition on one instrument only. Once an offer of a place has been accepted, suitable pupils are invited to apply for a Music Award. A number of Music Scholarships and Exhibitions are awarded each year. The closing date for entries is mid-January in the year of entry and shortlisted candidates will be invited to audition, usually very late in January or early in February prior to entry. Each candidate will be required to perform, sight-read, respond to aural tests, complete a 20-minute written paper and answer general questions relating to their music making. We expect candidates to have attained at least Grade 6 standard (ABRSM/ Trinity Guildhall equivalent) for 13+ and Grade 8 for 16+ on their principal study, though not necessarily to have taken exams. Each Scholarship is honorary, worth £60 per annum, plus free tuition on two instruments. Exhibitions consist of free tuition on one instrument. Awards at 13+ are retained for three years and are reviewed for the final two years of school. Awards at 16+ are for two years.
MUSIC SCHOLARSHIPS AT 13+ AND 16+
The basic fee covers tuition, games, loan books, stationery, libraries, medical inspection, careers aptitude tests, certain school publications and lunch, which all pupils are required to attend. In the Senior School, charges are made for the purchase of some books (which become the personal property of the pupil) and public examination fees.
The registration fee of £175 is payable at each entry point of St Paul’s Juniors and St Paul’s School. This fee is non-refundable. At 11+ and 16+, the fee is only payable upon acceptance of a place.
All fees are payable by Direct Debit on the first day of each term. Payment by direct bank transfer or cheque may be possible on prior agreement with the Finance Office.

REGISTRATION FEE
Musical instrument lessons are payable directly in advance to the peripatetic music teacher concerned on receipt of an invoice. The fee is £32.40 per 35-minute lesson in both schools. (Visiting Music Teachers review their fees annually and may increase the fee in September 2023.)
Remission
The Governors make some remission of fees when there are three or more children of one family at St Paul’s School, St Paul’s Juniors or St Paul’s Girls’ School. A formal application, in writing, must be made by the parent. Remission will begin in the term following the date of application and will not be retrospective.

The fees and deposit amount for the 2023-2024 academic year will be determined by the Governors in March 2023 and will be available on the school’s website.
DEPOSIT A deposit of £3,200 is required when accepting an offer of a place for 7+, 8+, 11+ and 16+ in 2023 and £3,500 for a 13+ place in 2025. For those admitted to St Paul’s Juniors, the deposit also covers attendance at St Paul’s School. The deposit is returnable when the pupil leaves St Paul’s.*
FEES
The Housemaster, supported by the Matron and a team of House Tutors, works closely with pupils’ academic tutors to ensure that they make the most of school life, but most importantly that they settle in, make friends and are happy.
There are also several flexi-boarding places available in the newly refurbished West House for pupils who wish to board during the week. Flexi-boarding is ideal for those who have a very long commute, whose parents are away for a period of time or for those who have an after-school or early morning activity. Flexi-boarders have their own rooms and a common room overlooking the Thames in West House, but also enjoy access to all the facilities in School House and the wider school. They join full boarders for all meals in the dining room and prep in the Kayton Library. Flexi-boarding is available for up to five nights a week. In School House, we offer full and weekly boarding (Sunday evening –Friday afternoon). A small number of places may be available for Year 9 boys who are welcome as weekly boarders but must return to an approved guardian or family member every weekend. They cannot be full boarders. Boarding is not available for boys below Year 9.
Boarding
School House is a small, friendly boarding house for up to 36 senior pupils situated on the school site, overlooking the River Thames. The majority of boarders join the school at 16+ and either live abroad or in the UK outside the M25. The boarding house offers a supportive environment, which helps boarders to concentrate on their studies during the week, but also grants them the independence and freedom to explore their many other interests. Besides structured daily prep time, boarders can use the school’s many facilities: some may use the gym, others the music school, another group might have coffee in nearby Hammersmith, whilst others relax in the House common room and play pool or watch a film together. At weekends, we organise various trips including cooking classes at Leith’s, meals out in London restaurants, tours around famous landmarks such as St Paul’s Cathedral and the Science Museum, and high adrenaline activities like go-karting, indoor skydiving and paintballing.

St Paul’s School Public Examination Results 2021 Our greatest achievement remains our ability to teach subjects with passion and scholarship rather than focusing only on exams. Outstanding results are a by-product. 2021 was a year like no other and results were awarded through Centre Assessed Grades, rather than the normal public exams process. Getting to School
St Paul’s School is situated on the south bank of the River Thames, on the south-west side of Hammersmith Bridge, close to the M4 and South Circular Road (A205). The entrance gate is accessed from Lonsdale Road. Please note: Hammersmith Bridge is currently only open to pedestrians and cyclists.

BY RAIL Barnes Station is served by frequent trains from Clapham, Waterloo and Richmond and has connections with Waterloo/Clapham Junction, Kingston and Hounslow. Pupils can catch the 33 or 419 bus from Barnes Station which stops at the top of the school road. BY UNDERGROUND The school is easily accessible via the District, Piccadilly, Circle, and Hammersmith & City tube lines. Hammersmith Bridge is currently closed indefinitely to traffic but is open to pedestrians and cyclists. It is around a 20-minute walk to Lonsdale Road from Hammersmith Station.
FROM THE M4 Take the Junction 1 (A205) exit from the M4 at the Chiswick roundabout and follow the A205 onto Chiswick High Road. Turn left onto Lower Richmond Road (A316) then turn right onto Lower Richmond Road (A3003). Follow the A3003 until you reach The Terrace. At the roundabout, take the first exit onto Lonsdale Road. The school is about 0.3 miles along Lonsdale Road on the left. BY AIR London Heathrow Airport is within easy reach of the school (30 minutes by car/taxi). ON ARRIVAL Visitors are requested to report immediately to Reception.
CAR PARKING Parents dropping pupils off to St Paul’s are requested to park on Lonsdale Road. Visitor parking is situated inside the entrance gates. Car parking attendants will be on hand if you have any queries.
