SALTY SISTERS
by Carol Hansen
December is always a fun time for the Salty Sisters!!! On December 7th, we held our Annual Candy Cane Regatta and December 14th our Christmas Party! At lunch, after the Candy Cane Regatta, PC Helen Larsen announced the winners of the “no rules” regatta. It was a wet & wild day on the water, and it was pointed out that it seems we have taught the new class how NOT to sail!! There was no wind, so most everyone was paddling. The three races, Christmas Tree, Candy Cane, and Poker Run provided a lot of laughs that morning. Winners of the Christmas Tree race: 1st place – Anna Streufert & Virginia Campbell; 2nd place – Gisela Marsano & Brenda Tate; 3rd place – Emily Kennedy & Karen Fidrych. Last place – Rosemary Sherman & Iris Mastry.
There were many winners of the Candy Cane Race and Poker Run, too many to list. After lunch, the Salties lined up for the Ugly Sweater Contest sporting a variety of interesting sweaters, sweatshirts, & T-Shirts. The following week, the Salty Sisters’ Social Committee, headed up by Mik Severini, recreated the scene from the 1965 holiday special when Linus explains “What Christmas is all about.” The “Charlie Brown Tree” centerpieces decorated all the tables, and went home to the Salty with a birthday closest to Christmas. The annual tradition of the newest class performing their skit to introduce themselves went off without a hitch. The Class of 2021, singing and dancing to the Sounds of Salties (Sound of Music theme), was a huge hit. They are "forever 21".
