On Monday School Council presented their work they have been focussing on during the term. They reported that they were very lucky to have a visit from Hugo's mum in 2H, who works for the RSPCA. She told us about the work the RSPCA does to help animals and explained how the RSPCA would like everyone to become a Wildlife Friend. Council explained to the whole school the things we could all do to help wild animals in the UK. This included things like nesting boxes, bird baths, butterfly and bird feeders and what to do if you found a wild animal in distress. They showed photos of the hedgehog that got trapped in our playground nets and explained how we helped him escape following the RSPCA guidelines.
Council then also talked about our new playground equipment and how we need to all look after it. The School Council set each class a challenge.
They explained that we are collecting toothpaste tubes in classes to take to Eco club in St Peter's 13-18 and arrange for them to be recycled correctly. I wonder which class will collect the most before the end of term? Thank you to all the School Council and to Mrs Franey for facilitating their discussions.
On Thursday we hosted our Sports Day, Reception and Year 1 competing in the morning and Year 2 and 3 in the afternoon. All children competed extremely well for their Houses, in sprint races, long distance races, obstacle courses, egg and spoon, skipping and sack races and at the end of each sports day the children participated in a House Relay. Both Sports days were absolutely wonderful; it was great to see that competition remains healthy at St Peter’s 2-8 and that our school values of humility, compassion friendship were on display in abundance. Many of the staff observed children supporting one another, celebrating one another in victory and commiserating one another in defeat. I was so proud of all the children. There were many field events that took place before Sports Day including long jump, high jump and cricket ball throw and these results were added to the scores from the Sports Days yesterday. Well done once again to all the children that participated.

On Sunday, the school community is invited to Clif-Fest, the summer fair of St Peter’s 2-8. I am sure it will be a fabulous afternoon with fun activities, refreshments and much, much more. Clif-Fest starts at 12 noon and ends at 3pm. A huge thanks for all the time and effort the Friends of St Peter’s 2-8 have put into the organisation and logistics of this event. I am sure it will be a wonderful day and I look forward to seeing many of you there.
What a wonderful weekend.
Best wishes
