The opening ceremony for the Week
Driving an entrepreneurial dynamic is one of the major features of the economic roadmap drawn up by the city of Strasbourg. Such a dynamic is a key element of the city’s European ambition and will be instigated across the whole of the Strasbourg-Ortenau Eurodistrict. It is a commitment that must infuse every level, from SMEs and start-ups to business groups and universities and thus become an integral part of our social entrepreneurship. The 2011 European entrepreneur week is a perfect example. Chambers of Commerce, companies and universities on either side of the border will be working together to show how business, local authorities and institutions are working together to make our region a European laboratory. By fostering the creation of new companies, and providing information and advice to both students and aspiring and experienced business creators and by facilitating informal contacts and cooperation, the event is helping drive innovation and increase the competitiveness of our economic fabric. And with events being held in Germany and 50% of the week’s programme featuring subjects of European interest, along with 3 events designed to awaken French and German students’ interest in entrepreneurship, the European entrepreneur week will be underpinning Strasbourg’s European status and will be helping further the Eurodistrict’s aim of bringing value for citizens on either side of the Rhine, over and beyond conventional cross-border cooperations. Roland Ries, Chairman of the Strasbourg-Ortenau Eurodistrict Senator – Mayor of Strasbourg
Following the speeches given by the representatives of the Euro district and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Strasbourg and the Bas-Rhin and the Chambre des Métiers d’Alsace, Ernst & Young’s experts will present the attractiveness ratings for France and Germany, with a special focus on the Upper Rhine area and the Strasbourg/Ortenau Eurodistrict. After the results have been announced, there will be a round-table discussion allowing public authority officials and French and German local business leaders to give their reactions and offer their points of view.

Digital in 2011, when technology means performance and profitability
Starting a business means thinking it through first. It’s where you go independent and also where the questions begin to crop up. What kind of initial capital do I need and where can I find it? Without initial capital, you shouldn’t go ahead. There are, however, other sources of capital, such as bank loans or even State funding.
Our experts will be going over the different types of funding and subsidies available, and will also give you information about other factors that can help you set up a company and get over the first few months.
