Title: “Boo-Boo” Medium: Digital Illustration Size: 105 x 91.4 cm Intention: “Boo-Boo” is the visual representation of a person who can’t move on from a small pain or obstacle that they face. The idea for this piece originated from my mom after I was rejected by a university for the first time. I thought my entire future was ruined. However, my mother's advice truly helped me to move on and grow from the obstacle and I’ve reflected on this in my piece. In terms of the style, I was inspired by an Owen Davey illustration for Google Calendar.

Title: It’s Peachy Medium: Thread sewn into Canvas Size: 38.1 x 24.13 cm Intention: I was inspired by the phrase It’s peachy, which is defined as ‘it’s good’ or ‘everything is okay’. This contradicts the facial expression of the peach within this painting. I was inspired by Jose Romussi’s use of thread. The threads represent the costume, which connects to how people put up an image or certain character in front of others.

Title: The Corner/Two-faced Medium: Monoprint Size: 25.4 x 20.3 cm Intention: This monoprint piece was inspired by a song called ‘two-faced’ by Slchld. The song is about the struggle of not knowing who you are because you pretend to be someone else. This piece can be interpreted as feeling trapped or lost while trying to fit in, to the point where you have lost touch with reality. This figure is an embodiment of our true personality that is rarely shown or expressed.

Title: The Bubbles Medium: Oil pastel on Acrylic Size: 36.1 x 45.2 cm Intention: The Bubbles represent the expectation and worries parents have towards their kids about their future. Similar to the anxious feeling of when we pop a balloon, the bubbles represent the anxious feelings of parents to maintain their child’s life and their safety. I was inspired by Andy Dixon’s use of oil pastel on acrylic.

Title: Finding my Missing Piece Medium: Acrylic on Canvas Size: 76.2 x 61 cm Intention: This is an abstract piece representing a detachment of emotions. It was inspired by The Missing Piece by Shel Silverstein, which is about an incomplete circle that is trying to find the triangle that will fit in its missing piece. I was inspired when my Mom said, “We will never know until when we will still be alive, but what is important right now is to value each time that we are together.” Instead of being attached to our fear, be more focused on making each day the best day.

Title: “Burn out” Medium: Video on Canvas Size: 104.1 x 92.7 cm Intention: This piece represents the feeling of being burnt out. I started this piece when I lost my motivation to do school work after getting rejected by the university. During that time, my Mom said “I know that as a high school student, it’s hard to stay motivated. However, it will be worth it after all”. This represents how life can be harsh right now, but there is always hope.

Title: Pink Bathroom Medium: Watercolour on papers Size: 57 x 121 cm Intention: Pink Bathroom represents coping with feelings. I was inspired by The Pink Book by Kaye Blegvad. The purpose of pink bathrooms is to increase optimism after WWII. The pieces consist of many components presented similarly to bathroom tiles. This piece represents the way humans cope with sadness or stress. Similarly, the purpose of the pink bathroom in the ’60s where pink was used to hide the negative feelings.

Title: Man child Medium: Moving Picture [use QR code] Size: 42 x 11 cm Intention: The purpose of Manchild is to represent a person that has no awareness of the world and people, despite their age. I was first inspired by a song called Norman F Rockwell by Lana Del Ray. There is a verse that goes “ god damn manchild, you act like a kid even though you stand six-foot-two”, which inspired me to create this character. The moving picture is to give a visual representation of the character being ignorant or seem naive, despite their age- similar to “Boo-Boo”.

Title: Mind your own business Medium: Resin on paper Size: 29 x 20 cm Intention: This piece encourages people to be aware of and focus on themselves. The title might sound harsh, however, the intention of this piece is positive. I was inspired by my Mom saying, “why are you making yourself feel burdened inside by comparing yourself to others? We are all different and we work at a different pace. Don’t compete with others, compete with yourself”. The use of resin in this piece is to replicate the experience of looking out through a window.
