RESTART PLAN as of September 14, 2020

Stratford Hall adapted the updated five-stage approach of the Ministry of Education for resuming in-class instruction in a measured way to align with the Restart Plan of our Province. Each stage will be guided by health and safety guidelines, measures, protocols and orders as well as the principles developed for continuity of learning during the pandemic:

Maintain a healthy and safe environment for all students, families, faculty and staff

Promote personal and community wellness through creativity, activity and service

Provide the services needed

to support the children of our essential service workers (ESWs)

Support vulnerable students

who may need special assistance

Provide continuity

of educational opportunities for all students

MOVING FROM STAGE 3 TO STAGE 2 ON SEPTEMBER 9 On Wednesday, September 9, we will be welcoming all our students as we begin the 2020-2021 school year. Stratford Hall will follow guidelines set by the BC Ministry on Learning Groups/Cohorts. Work is being done to prepare the school for the safe and healthy return of our full community.

ON JUNE 1, MOVED FROM STAGE 4 TO STAGE 3 On Monday, June 1, we extended the BCmandated provision of childcare from the current situation - the children of Essential Workers only - to any student from Kindergarten to Grade 7. Participation was voluntary; parents/guardians could opt to keep their child(ren) at home to continue with online learning. The expansion of childcare at school was intended to support those parents who intended to, or had to, return to work. Those children who attend childcare at school in June continued to follow their online program and were supported by Stratford Hall faculty and staff. Grades 6 to 11 students had the opportunity to reconnect with each other and staff one morning or afternoon. These sessions were voluntary and took place during previously scheduled “off screen days (June 3 and 11).

HEALTH & SAFETY Guidelines Masks will be required for faculty, staff, MYP and DP students in high traffic areas such as buses and in common areas such as hallways, or anytime outside of their learning group. Those wearing masks must still seek to practice physical distancing whenever possible. Parents are asked to label their children’s mask with their name. There must be no crowding, gathering or congregating of people, even if non-medical masks are worn. Maintain a distance of 2 meters from others if possible. Parents and guardians will monitor their children daily for symptoms and not send them to school if they are sick. People who are sick will not be allowed in school. Parents will remind their children to minimize physical contact with their friends. Students will be asked to wash their hands frequently, including before coming to school. They will have access to hand sanitizer throughout the School when hand washing is not available. Students will be required to bring their own lunch and snacks at the beginning of the day. Parents are not permitted to drop-off food during the day. No outside food delivery is allowed except for Calhouns, our official hot lunch provider.

Students will be asked to label their personal items and not to share them.

The School will be cleaned more frequently, including classrooms and high touch areas. The School will implement staggered dropoff and pick-up times and modify lunch and recess hours, if needed. School and classrooms will look different: • Increased spacing between students in classrooms and smaller group activities • No physical contact sports but more time outside • Limitations on assemblies and other large gatherings Signs and reminders will be posted throughout the School to remind students.

DAILY HEALTH CHECK

Parents and guardians are to complete a Daily Health Check for their child prior to coming to school. Source: BCCDC COVID-19 Public Health Guidance for K-12 School Settings

2. International Travel Has your child returned from travel outside Canada in the last 14 days? YES

3. Confirmed Contact Is your child a confirmed contact of a person confirmed to have COVID-19? YES

NO

If you answered “YES” to one of the questions included under ‘Key Symptoms of Illness’ (excluding fever), your child should stay home for 24 hours from when the symptom started. If the symptom improves, your child may return to school when your child feels well enough. If the symptom persists or worsens, seek a health assessment. If you answered “YES” to two or more of the questions included under ‘Symptoms of Illness’ or you have a fever, seek a health assessment. A health assessment includes calling 8-1-1, or a primary care provider like a physician or nurse practitioner. If a health assessment is required, you should not return to school until COVID-19 has been excluded and your symptoms have improved. When a COVID-19 test is recommended by the health assessment: •

If the COVID-19 test is positive, you should stay home until you are told by public health to end self-isolation. In most cases this is 10 days after the onset of symptoms. Public health will contact everyone with a positive test.

If the COVID-19 test is negative, you can return to school once symptoms have improved and you feel well enough. Symptoms of common respiratory illnesses can persist for a week or more. Re-testing is not needed unless you develop a new illness.

If a COVID-19 test is recommended but is not done because you choose not to have the test, or you do not seek a health assessment when recommended, and your symptoms are not related to a previously diagnosed health condition, you should stay home from school until 10 days after the onset of symptoms, and then you may return if you are feeling well enough.

If a COVID-19 test is not recommended by the health assessment, you can return to school when symptoms improve and you feel well enough. Testing may not be recommended if the assessment determines that the symptoms are due to another cause (i.e. not COVID-19). If you answered “YES” to questions 2 or 3, use the COVID-19 Self-Assessment Tool to determine if your child should be tested for COVID-19.

BCCDC PROTOCOL If a student develops any symptoms of illness, Parents or guardians must keep the student at home. If a student develops any symptoms at school, Staff must take the following steps: 1. Immediately separate the symptomatic student from others in a supervised area. 2. Contact the student’s parent or caregiver to pick them up as soon as possible. 3. Where possible, maintain a 2-metre distance from the ill student. If not possible, staff should wear a non-medical mask or face covering if available and tolerated, or use a tissue to cover their nose and mouth. 4. Provide the student with a non-medical mask or tissues to cover their coughs or sneezes. Throw away used tissues as soon as possible and perform hand hygiene. 5. Avoid touching the student’s body fluids (e.g., mucous, saliva). If you do, practice diligent hand hygiene. 6. Once the student is picked up, practice diligent hand hygiene. 7. Staff responsible for facility cleaning must clean and disinfect the space where the student was separated and any areas recently used by them (e.g., classroom, bathroom, common areas). Parents or guardians must pick up their child as soon as possible if they are notified their child is ill.

If a staff member develops any symptoms of illness, Staff must stay home. If staff develops any symptoms at work, Staff should go home as soon as possible. If unable to leave immediately: 1. Symptomatic staff should separate themselves into an area away from others. 2. Maintain a distance of 2 meters from others. 3. Use a tissue or mask to cover their nose and mouth while they wait to be picked up. 4. Staff responsible for facility cleaning must clean and disinfect the space where the staff member was separated and any areas used by them (e.g., classroom, bathroom, common areas).
