My Hornwormy Senioryear

My coworkers, James and Andrew!

For my Visual Arts class, I made this piece about hornworms!

This year, much of my life has centred around hornworms. They are green squishy caterpillars that I learned of at my job at Mr. Pet’s, where I cleaned their habitats. They can be fed to reptiles when kept on a diet of Hornworm chow, but when found in the wild they are often toxic since they eat foods containing nicotine. For example: tobacco leaves, potatoes, tomatoes, etc. I find them fascinating! Even after quitting my job, I have continued my interest in them, which I have documented in this article!

I took inspiration from Ralph Steadman, the illustrator of the book “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas”. Its chaotic style and surrealist content helped in exploring the pressure I put on myself to do well in school Although I loved this experiment, I caused a lot of unnecessary stress for myself with it. I had nightmares of hornworms invading my room and sometimes felt them crawling on my skin when they weren’t there.

For Christmas, my friend Uma Kesting made me a to-scale needle-felted hornworm! I cherish it despite how often I see it on my bedside table and mistake it for a real one

Earth worms are awesome! They love the rain, adding to their fun personalities! there are a million earth worms found in one acre of land, so even though you can’t see them earth worms are everywhere.

Valentines day- the best holliday! Valentines day is a day to express love to friends, family and partners! A fun fact about valentines day is that 145 million greeting cards are exchanged every year on this holiday!

Bouvier dogs are my favourite dog breed! With the ability to grow up to 27 inches tall, this breed was originally a herding dog. A fun fact about this dog is that these dogs date back to 1600', being farm dogs in Germany.

You’re chopping vegetables for dinner. You blink, and find yourself laying on the chopping board. A giant carrot stands above you, wielding your knife. What happens next?

In your backyard, your parents shout and argue fiercely. Embarrassed, you back up to escape their fury. But SCHWOOP! You feel your body sucked in by the hedge behind you. What happens next?

You’re studying for a driver license test when you find out that your friend was framed and arrested! You “borrow” a vehicle (the one you’re getting a license for) and rush to break them out. What’s the vehicle, and what happens next?

You have almost finished restoring a space machine when suddenly, you fall in head first When you try opening the door, you realize you have been transported to a different planet! What do you see, and what happens next?

As you tidy up your room, you notice the withered monkey paw from your grandpa’s antique collection. Its distorted appearance causes you to shudder, yet you still make three wishes out of curiosity. And they came true the next day!!! Although, there’s consequences... What are your wishes, and what happens next?

The door to the model slowly opens with a “crack!”. For a moment, the planet looks black, but as soon as your foot crunches the rocks below as if the world comes to life Blues and green surrounded by tropical-looking animals? Each of the leafy greens has small little eyes and a full set of teeth You step forward again, this time met with a squish As you look down you see a puddle of mud and you can feel your foot slowly sinking. Panicking, you move your free foot to try to get a better stance, and “Schoop!” It sinks into the mud The animals start stepping towards you Each pace creates a different noise, one step a snap, another a crack, one even a crash

THEY EAT YOU.

My phone buzzes in my back pocket I look to find a notification from my digital calendar, my mom’s birthday is on Saturday! She surprises me every year with a special carrot cake, our favorite, so I want to do that, too. Heading to the kitchen, I grab my cookbook and flip to the well-worn page My hands glide over the crinkled paper, then I set the book down and start washing the carrots. The sun is bright on my eyes as I start peeling the rough skins off the carrot. Yet, as I grabbed the long, pointy kitchen knife, I looked back to find that the carrot was gone!!! I blink once, twice, I open my eyes to see white Not any white, but the old, off-white of the reeling ceiling of my childhood home I sat up, only to find that I was lying down on the large plank of wood. The wood has scratches and grooves perfectly, imperfect, like the marking of a knife. In panic, I turned around… (tbc.)

I didn’t know that hedges were dimensional gates, and it’s strange that they are. So, this morning, I got teleported to a random metropolis by a hedge after my failed attempt at escaping from family arguments Before I could take anything in, my body lifted from the ground upside down, and some feathers were falling off from my kidnapper. The skyscrapers blinded my eyes with the reflection of the sun, yet no one seemed to care about me flying across their windows The cars and people became small, colorful bugs crawling on the ground, and the chilling winds (and ducks) slammed into my face. My brain might've had a meltdown, and I did what I had to do. "AHHHHHH!!!!!" I screamed at the top of my lungs (In the hopes of deafening my kidnapper) I mean, this "could" save me as long as my kidnapper didn’t decide to let me splat on top of someone ' s car like bird poop. "Quiet down! I'm going deaf," says the figure/birdman. So, as a logical person, I continued to scream at a blaring volume We pivoted from the original route with a sigh from the figure, and we crash-landed on top of a building, with me being the cushion pad (tbc )

I Totally Know What Dune is About

Dune is this really great movie that I have totally watched and I’m ready to spread my awesome recap!

So what do you need to know about Dune: Part One before you watch Dune II? Well I’ve definelty got you covered!

So basically theres our friend little Timmy, and he is co-staring with The Big Z, and they’re stuck in the desert with these big worms that live in the sand. These massive worms like to run around and sometimes Timmy rides them to show off to his people, and show that he is worthy to talk to the Big Z. All of the sudden there’s this bald priest looking lady, who is a worm activist. She yells at Timmy about how he shouldn’t ride the worms because it is a bad look for people with class. Then there’s a war that breaks out and Timmy is against the bald lady, and suddenly the movie ends.

I stuck items that can be found in daily life to the dress, including tinfoils, gum papers, candy papers, receipts, sponges, paper clips, toothpicks, can tabs, plastic bags, packaging papers, plastic forks, dried flower petals, maple leaves, etc
