WHY CHOOSE WOODWORKS?

GREAT BRITISH MANUFACTURING
Every one of our Woodworks floors is created by the hands of our skilled artisans in our workshops in the North West of England. This means every floor takes time and care to achieve the extraordinary, but you don’t have to compromise on lead time.
ANTIQUE AND RECLAIMED MASTERY
Woodworks are world leaders in working with antique woods. Rare and exciting. The twenty-stage restoration process undertaken by our master artisans transforms our antique oak, elm and more into a remarkable floor fit for modern life, which still celebrates the imperfections of time.
THE ULTIMATE SUSTAINABILITY
Sustainability has always been at the forefront of our thinking. We were one of the first companies in Europe to be fully FSC®-certified. Today we offer more FSC®, PEFC and genuine reclaimed certified floors than any other wood floor company. Furthermore, Woodworks is a proud member of the National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA).
IMPRESSIVE STOCKHOLDING
Having worked on international projects in all manner of sectors, shapes and sizes, we understand everything you might need including timeframe, specification, architectural details and unique challenges. We have the largest stockholding of raw and prefinished antique, reclaimed and new materials which allows us to meet peak customer demand and protects you from order delays.
MODERN ORGANIC DESIGN
Woodworks are champions of creative, natural design. Our floors are far more textured and seasoned than you would find elsewhere. We continue to innovate new finishes, edge details and more to produce never-beforeseen floors that are synonymous with modern design and thinking.
THE BEAUTY OF HANDMADE
Our restoration ability and handcrafting artistry is what truly sets Woodworks apart from the competition.
Every one of our floors is restored and created by hand in our English workshops by our gifted craftspeople. Each floor passes through thousands and thousands of hands before completion in order to achieve the extraordinary.
This means crafting your floor is an ever-evolving pursuit of excellence but our artisans love taking the time needed to create something extra special.
From working with original patinas to accentuate their beauty, to hand-applying perfectly paired finishes, we cut no corners when it comes to crafting your floor. There is an understated nature to these handcrafted floors and it takes real understanding to appreciate their beauty.

GREAT BRITISH MANUFACTURING
Our branches reach around the world, with locations in London, New York and California, but we are still grounded by our roots where we began – in the heart of Cheshire, North West England.
This is where our global design, crafting and production powerhouses are located, and is how we continue to provide an industry-leading inimitable portfolio to our North American and international customers.
We’re proud to continually pioneer Great British Craftsmanship and are thrilled to introduce our unmatched skillset to you and your clients.
RESTORATION
We have an international reputation for our skills in reclaiming and restoring antique woods. The rich patinas of these woods cannot be reproduced; they only occur when wood is used over time, patiently restored by hand, our artisans always assure these organic features are paid the respect they deserve.
are challenging to craft. Organic and graceful. An exquisite fusion of beauty and feeling. We consider these undulating textures – which are a defining feature of antique and reclaimed floors – part of our house style.
Applied by hand and allowed to dry slowly in the air for days at a time between coatings, finishing a Woodworks floor takes an incredible amount of time and patience. These slowly cured finishes offer an exceptional level of protection, meaning that your floor will last a lifetime within your project.

Woodworks Bespoke
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Originally built in 1883, the Corinthia Hotel has seen hosted decades of service to royalty and celebrities alike. The immaculate hotel features 294 rooms and suites, as well as 7 individual penthouses, each of which has its own unique personality. The European Hotel Design Awards recognised these spaces in the Best Penthouse category in 2013 and it continues to be regarded as the destination for premium hospitality in London.
HOW WE HELPED
Requiring something truly individual for these soughtafter spaces, our team worked closely with, GA Design, to craft Woodworks bespoke flooring for the Musician’s Suite, Actor’s Suite, Inventor’s Suite, Politician’s Suite and Royal Suite. Each suite had a different Woodworks design at heart. This includes herringbone, end grain and our registered unique Parquet de Versailles, each adding a sense of balance to the spaces.
OUTCOME
Despite cosmetic changes to the walls and soft furnishings, the Woodworks floors within the Corinthia have been down for over a decade and still look as beautiful as the day they were first installed. Many have matured a rich depth and patina. An authentic look. These floors also grant a feeling of luxury and regality, with their defined beveled edge details helping each element stand out from the next and providing a modern, high-end look.
WOODWORKS BESPOKE
Bringing your vision to life.
[BE·SPOKE] | ADJECTIVE
Dealing in (or producing) custom-made articles
We go above and beyond this meaning. To Woodworks, bespoke is about crafting far beyond the ordinary.
Projects that require these specifics are not defined by any previous parameters and each is designed to push the boundaries of possibility further than the last. Truly original design.
Created with your vision in mind, a Woodworks bespoke creation is a collaborative experience.
By combining sensitive design with as much imagination and flair as your specification allows, we believe our work can form the backbone of a building’s architectural heritage for generations to come.
LET’S COLLABORATE
The attraction of bespoke design lies in individuality. Working alongside you as part of your team, we aim to design, craft and deliver a Woodworks creation that is one-of-a-kind and inspired by you. You bring the ideas, and our experienced and capable craftspeople will bring their knowledge to mould refined surfaces that breathe, organic textures that encapsulate history and fill your space with the true wonder of wood.
From the very best wood flooring restoration team in the world, to our incredible artisans who harbour centuries of collection knowledge, we make no compromises when it comes to achieving your vision.
With that being said, let’s collaborate. Every bespoke project begins life with a conversation.

MARINE
Creating a space like no other.
We are all drawn to the expanse and freedom that the ocean offers, and its ability to connect us to nature. Just like living with wood.
Timber is a key material in the construction of luxury boats and yachts across the world. We have worked on all manner of marine projects, so regardless of your client’s specification and demands we are able to surpass expectations.
Get in touch via +1 866 399 1410 or hello@woodworks1988.com to discuss your marine project today.
SUSTAINABLE CHOICES
Specifying antique or reclaimed wood for your yacht adds another dimension. This wood not only adds character to your project, it also benefits the environment.
Wood will never release potential harmful toxins or chemicals into the water and antique and reclaimed options are the ultimate in sustainability.
Antique Burmese Teak, reclaimed Pitch Pine and English Walnut are just some of the rare and beautiful woods we have used in period yacht restorations to achieve a beautifully sustainable and practical project.
CLADDING
Adding natural feeling and texture to every surface, our woods grant the sense of relaxation and tranquillity you often struggle to find in other materials.
The link to nature these antique, reclaimed, aged and new surfaces provide is unmatched, and we have covered every surface of marine projects throughout our decades of woodworking expertise including walls, ceilings, furniture and soulful surfaces.
PUTTING SUSTAINABILITY AT THE HEART OF EVERY PROJECT
Having become one of the first companies in Europe to be fully FSC®-certified, way back in 1997, we’re proud of our environmental credentials.
Every Woodworks floor is sustainably sourced and certified, without you having to pay extra for the privilege. Whether it is genuinely reclaimed, FSC®, PEFC or any other accreditation, we assure our woods have minimal environmental impact, simply because it is the right thing to do for our planet’s future.
We are also proudly part of the NWFA, the leading recognized representative for the wood flooring industry in terms of industry-accepted standards, resources, and highly skilled instructors in the USA.
RECLAIMED SUSTAINABILITY
Reclamation and restoration are key principles to us.
Not only is it where we began and blossomed our woodworking skills, it best represents our sustainability mindset, as reclaimed woods heavily reduce environmental impact.
Reclaiming any wood for future use from demolition sites helps limit harmful wastage. Ageless material. Due to rapid deforestation, preserving what is left of our woods and forests for future generations is more important than ever.
Therefore reclaimed floors help your project to achieve carbon neutrality, whilst showcasing the very best in historical meaning and unworldly beauty.
All our reclaimed woods, including Antique European Oak, Reclaimed Pine and Ancient Jarrah, are taken from spaces where they have already been used for decades, and in most cases, centuries before being beautifully restored and modernized by hand.
Sustainability has always been at the forefront of our mission.
2 PORTFOLIO

Organic undulating woods with beauty in their imperfections.
We’ve crafted our Aged European Oak wood floors to purposefully embody all of the characteristics of our favourite antique woods. This is new wood that has been carefully aged over time, granting a traditionally elegant feel to your projects.
All of our Aged floors are slowly seasoned for 24 months before we begin any handcrafting. This important ageing draws out the phenomenal shape, texture and movement which makes this oak so special. Unique.
These woods are where we honed our Woodworks ‘house style.’ Our ability in which we bring out the natural undulating texture is unparalleled across the globe.

REGENT’S CRESCENT
Residential
Project Name:
Regent’s Crescent
Location: London, United Kingdom
Sector: Residential
Featured Floor: Tolland, Plank and Herringbone
Collection:
Editions
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Whilst the Regency period lasted only a short time, the enduring impression it made on British architecture can still be seen today in the elegant, distinctive buildings it produced. One example of this design influence is John Nash’s iconic structure – Regent’s Crescent in London. The meticulous and sensitive conversion of this magnificent building front and interior was carried out by renowned British Architects, PDP London.
HOW WE HELPED
Specified through our major project team and were delivered by our master Woodworks craftspeople, a bespoke European Oak in FSC®-certified, select grade planks and herringbone were specified for the grand living areas and sophisticated dressing room. Modern design choices run throughout, providing a sense of elegance.
OUTCOME
These luxury apartments celebrate the Regency proportions and architectural details in a meticulously designed scheme by Millier London. With bronze and black accents used to deliver sophistication and set off the beautiful variety of stone and durable wood floors perfectly.
AGED
Aged European Oak wood floors that pay homage to very best traditional flooring.
Aged wood floors are intertwined with the organic nature of Woodworks. We create space for perfect imperfections.
Aged began its life as a solid wood flooring collection. Organic and raw in look and feel with modern touches. Now fully engineered, each floor replicates all the features you would expect to find within reclaimed floors. They pay homage to the unworldly emotions you get from antique materials.
Their antique undulating textures and hand-rolled edges create a traditional, rustic look with indications of age throughout. Originals. This shaping is never uniform, nor repeating, and represents the antithesis of mass production. You can only truly understand these textures in person.
Only the best. Crafted from exquisite European Oak, Aged floors bring an understated wonder to your spaces.
The French Oak we use for this collection is throughand-through sawn to maximize the variety of grain texture across your floor. Medullary rays flare out from a sound heart, creating an extraordinary harmony to nature and enriching those who appreciate them.
Gentle woods such as these require an excellence to be used successfully within commercial and residential projects. Should you wish to start your Aged journey, get in touch with our expert team via +1 866 399 1410.

HARBOUR BEACH CLUB & HOTEL
Hotel
Project Name: Harbour Beach Club & Hotel
Location: Devon, Southern England
Sector: Hotel
Featured Floor: Champagney Herringbone
Collection: Aged
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Harbour Beach Club & Hotel is a stylish luxury waterfront hotel and resort on the beach in Southern England. Nestled in an area of outstanding natural beauty, every element of Harbour Beach Club & Hotel is inspired by its surroundings. Organic and natural inside and out. Featuring 50 rooms and suites decorated in earthly palettes, a laid back restaurant with floor-to-ceiling windows frame the picturesque coastline and bring the outside in.
HOW WE HELPED
From the very start of the project it was clear that Champagney was the firm favorite of designers, DoDesign Studio. Its rich, warm, natural tones and rustic appearance is accentuated by the restaurants immense windows that lead the way for the sunlight.
OUTCOME
Throughout the design scheme, the colour palette runs through earthly tones to give the desired natural feeling. A modern, reclaimed-style approach. By mixing soft sienna tones with subtle flairs of green and blue, and natural products like the wood floor, the restaurant showcases the scenery of England and creates the perfect year-round dining spot.
SUPERWIDE
Statement floors with impressive widths and lengths.
We broke all the rules when it came to wooden plank dimensions. Unprecedented design.
Wooden planks had traditionally been very thin beforehand, but we pioneered planks in wider widths and longer lengths, much earlier than they became a mainstream idea. We have continued with our philosophy to push the boundaries with wide planks ever since.
Now crafted into incredible widths as large as 12”, the specifications that make up our Superwide collection are the most impressive available. Massive. This modern wide plank look is designed to create a bold statement, even in the largest of spaces.
Every stage of a Superwide floor is also naturally slow cured. Sleek and refined. Perfect for modern areas with a sharp micro bevel edge for a contemporary look.
Plentiful coats are applied by hand several times (depending on the complexity of the floor) and every application is air dried over a number of days before the next application is started. This gives each finish time to naturally harden as it reacts with the oxygen in the air. As these layers of finish build up we create floors that feel very natural and are also incredibly durable.
Samples of all these incredible Superwide floors are available by emailing hello@woodworks1988.com.

TATTU

Project Name: Tattu

Edinburgh, Scotland

Featured Floor:
Ebony, Superwide Plank and Oversize Herringbone
Collection: Superwide
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Tattu is a multi-sensory dining experience, taking their guests on a unique culinary journey. This individuality is a philosophy we share, as all our wood floors are unique in aesthetic due to the entirely handcrafted nature. The revolutionary restaurant therefore required an extraordinary handmade floor.
HOW WE HELPED
For this project, we were approached by award-winning commercial and residential interior design agency – Edwin Interior Design – who specialize in unique, inspirational and atmospheric interiors for bars and restaurants. Working alongside our Woodworks team, they chose Ebony, in both herringbone and plank formats to deliver their design for this special restaurant.
OUTCOME
Every detail of the Tattu restaurant has been considered to ensure that it connects with the passion and identity of the brand. The result takes you on a sensory journey in every aspect and Edwin Design’s award-winning approach to their interiors should leave you feeling inspired. We’re pleased to have our Superwide woods as part of that experience.
URBAN
Rich in texture and organic in appearance, Urban floors are beautiful, hardwearing and enduring in their appeal – ideal for modern contemporary spaces.
Urban embodies all the values you love about our reclaimed and antique Woodworks floors: a gently worn surface with understated imperfection, but with the consistency and reliability of a new wood floor. A commercial giant.
The skip-sawn markings are applied by hand at 90 degrees to the wood, at random throughout. Uniqueness should be expected with no two of these perfectly imperfect boards ever being the same.
For your peace of mind, this collection has been crafted using only the very best European Oak with 100% FSC®-certified environmental accreditation. Helping you achieve carbon neutrality.
Urban is perhaps most special, however, due to our remarkable Naked Skin Lacquer finish. Organic and unparalleled. This natural finish provides exceptional durability whilst looking invisible on the surface.
These floors are lacquered, not oiled. This is very challenging, and no other flooring creator is able to replicate our unique technique.
There is a risk that dirt and debris will get stuck in the grain and skip saw marks, meaning we must flood the surface with finish to combat this. Unconventional and important. This finish must then be sanded and re-applied a multitude of times for maximum durability, which the commercial projects Urban is designed for demand.
Urban gives you a beautiful reclaimed-style texture without compromising on easy care and maintenance. To use these sought-after floors in your upcoming designs, please order your free samples via hello@woodworks1988.com or +1 866 399 1410.

Featured Floor: Brooklyn and Manhattan, Herringbone
Collection: Urban
PROJECT OVERVIEW
To stand out from the crowd in the ultra-competitive London real estate market, Strutt & Parker set about renovating their office space into a unique experience.
Located in the culturally heavyweight and luxurious location of South Kensington, the client specified something truly extraordinary that would leave a strong impression on visitors.
OUTCOME
The floor has taken pride of place within the London store for several years, ageing gracefully, developing a rich patina as it battles back against the demands of daily life. The project also showcases the flexibility and diversity of the Urban collection, with it’s incredible finish and variety of organic tones making for a perfectly imperfect experience.
HOW WE HELPED
Containing many of our different Urban floors, including the light Brooklyn and black Manhattan, the client let their imagination and creativity become a reality through our bespoke service. A flexible creation. Each step of the project our team were on hand to answer the all-important questions and queries the client had, and every stage of the project ran smoothly to ensure this complex creation was perfectly balanced.
SUPERFINE
Carefully crafted for a seamless finish, look and feel. Our Superfine portfolio represents perfection in natural materials.
This oak is super smooth and super subtle and provides a cleaner look than most, containing the smallest amount of sap, knots and color variation for a minimalist look. This creates more synchronicity across your entire floor, without losing the natural variation that makes wood such a special material. Amorphous.
Choose from twenty-five inimitable tonal options that cover a large spectrum of designs, each of which has been specially finished with a Burnished Hardwax Oil or a Naked Skin Lacquer. The finish achieves a rich patina before the boards are treated with soft brushing techniques to remove the soft summer growth and reveal the beautiful natural grain patterns of European Oak.
The epitome of an exquisite look.
Superprime grade oak is amongst the most minimal you’ll ever find, containing limited knots, sap and color variation. It’s also a rare and cultured commodity.
The selection process for these floors is rigorous and time-consuming, taking hundreds of hours selecting the board by hand before our artisans set to work on the tone, texture and finish. We hold our grading process in exceptionally high regard, and whilst beautiful natural variations should always be expected, we pride ourselves on crafting using some of the cleanest floors on the planet.
These delicate woods are all handmade to order, with perfect proportions fitting seamlessly in all designs and spaces. Get in touch with our team by emailing hello@woodworks1988.com to begin your Superfine conversation.

PROJECT OVERVIEW
Refurbished by Reniam and designed by Londonbased and internationally-acclaimed designers, Vorbild Architecture, this former concierge apartment has been transformed into a luxury apartment complete with natural surfaces and the very best materials available.
OUTCOME
The result is a home that is ideal for Londonliving, with all the comforts required to escape the fast-paced environment of the city. The flat is an impressive space, with design elements from both the present and the past combining.
HOW WE HELPED
Wood features heavily and is juxtaposed with the white accents and modern furnishings. As such, lead designer Michael has created an exciting classic and contemporary mix. A distinctive design. Needing something that blended the two architectural styles were always going to be a challenge, but through an effective sampling process Michael landed on the celestial tones and clean Superprime grade of Auga.
ENGLISH NATIVE TIMBERS
Extraordinary wood floors made from the very best English Oak.
English Oak is an exceptional variety of wood and is revered for being the finest in this species. Due to being wilder, and more naturally grown, this wood features an incredible natural grain pattern throughout the logs. These pedunculate logs are very different to the tall Sessile Oaks from commercial forests. It’s also slowly grown, meaning that the growth rings inside are much tighter than in quicker grown woods, with the hue being richer in colour as a result too.
All of our English Native Timbers are crafted from incredibly special English Oak, rare.
We saw our English Oak logs in the traditional manner that they would have been done for hundreds of years. This method is known as quarter sawing. By doing this you get a little less wood from each log, but the usable wood has the best stability possible. Quarter-sawn oak mainly moves in its thickness and not in its width. Truly a magical material.
Quarter-sawing this organic oak also reveals extraordinary grain patterns throughout the wood, wonderfully thick medullary rays, sometimes wild and wondering grain patterns and rich, warm tones that are unique to the species.
Appreciating the subtle natural beauty of our English Native Timbers are key to modest floors. A seamless fit into both traditional and contemporary builds, contact our expert team today via hello@woodworks1988.com to use English Native Timbers flooring within your upcoming projects.

English Native Timbers
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The design studio for this project work in both urban and rural landscapes and in several sectors including private residential, cultural, workplace and hospitality. They celebrate the reuse and re-invention of existing buildings and often reveal layers of historical use in their beautiful creations. This exemplary building renovation does just that. Preserving the past. Enhancing the future.
OUTCOME
By using random width and length planks, the team have crafted space which represents the traditional English build in the best way possible, using the best materials. We hope to work with the architects more frequently in future to ensure the past is preserved, beautifully. The look even speaks of a Japandi design, with minimal, natural touches throughout.
HOW WE HELPED
With period features, furnishings and architectural details throughout the historical property, the integrity of the space was always at the forefront of the design. Therefore, Galion made perfect sense. This is an organic and rich new wood floor which pays tribute to the learnings of the past, having an undulating texture that is more akin to antique than a modern-day floor. A distinctive choice for a distinctive home. The planks were laid with a single join between them across the space to create a balance, the Japandi effect that screams modernity.

FISKEBAR
Leisure
Project Name:
Fiskebar, The Ritz-Carlton Hotel de la Paix
Location:
Geneva, Switzerland
Sector:
Leisure
Featured Floor: Jacobin, Parquet de Versailles
Collection: Parquetry
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Lake Geneva (or Lac Léman) is a crescent-shaped lake shared between France and Switzerland, and overlooked by the Alps. On the edge of the lake resides the Hotel de la Paix, an iconic luxury hotel that is part of the Ritz-Carlton group. B3 Designers were assigned to create the restaurant space, Fiskebar, aiming to marry contemporary Nordic design with the simplicity of the dining concept.
OUTCOME
Textural woods and a dark, moody palette were inspired by the surrounding mountainous landscape, while bespoke ceramic artwork and luxurious brass details are in keeping with the hotel and restaurant’s history. By pairing these together, B3 has achieved a luxurious-yetunderstated project.
HOW WE HELPED
The design team approached Woodworks to craft handmade panels for the space, with our perfectly proportioned Jacobin Parquet de Versailles taking pride of place in the attention-commanding landscape. Echoing the warm and atmospheric feel that celebrates the hotel’s architecture, the rich, aged tone of the panels is achieved through applying an organic restoration oil after a long fuming process which deepens the coloring of the wood.
BOLD SURFACES
Reclaimed and new designs for use on walls, ceilings and decorative surfaces.
For a modern organic design choice, look no further than our Bold Surfaces collection.
Created with the main purpose of being used as wall and ceiling cladding, these antique, reclaimed and new surfaces have been crafted from very special material, packed with personality and patina, to add soul and beauty to any space.
Sculpted in our English workshops using several delicate and subtle techniques, all of our Bold Surfaces are packed with identity, and require an ingenious expertise in order to be restored into understated cladding.
Many of these woods are created with a solid construction. The ultimate in resilience. They can be sanded down a multitude of times throughout the years to restore their original look.
These woods have been reclaimed from all manner of sites across the globe, stretching back hundreds of years in origin. From Eastern European vodka vats and Tennessee whisky barrels to antique oaks and Victorian pines, the Bold Surfaces collection epitomizes the best reclaimed surfaces available.
They add an understated unorthodox feeling, unmatched by alternative materials.
Samples of our Bold Surfaces cladding are always available. Should you wish to use these extraordinary woods in your upcoming projects, please get in touch with our team via hello@woodworks1988.com or +1 866 399 1410.

Bold Surfaces
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Spur is a South African eatery located in the South of England, serving big flavor and big personality. Since 1967, Spur has grown across South Africa and abroad –providing customers with a relaxed dining experience in a comfortable, family-friendly environment. They’ve now grown into an internationally recognized brand with many local and worldwide restaurants.
HOW WE HELPED
The architect for this project was tasked with producing space that encapsulated the identity of the brand throughout every part of the design. Entirely unique. After reviewing a wide selection of reclaimed woods, the client landed on the combination of Hip and Eternity. By combining these aesthetics, the project’s designers have created a feature section of the restaurant. An exciting and cultured design.
OUTCOME
Designs such as these make us proud to create our reclaimed floors, as we love to see them implemented in interesting new sculptural designs. The timber brings a charm and soul which cannot be found with alternative materials and captures the very essence of the Spur brand.
ANTIQUE
Woodworks have an international reputation for being the best in the world at reclaiming and restoring antique woods. The wood we restore is hundreds of years old and we take the responsibility to preserve these very seriously, being masters of the craft.
Unprecedented ancient materials. The patinas of such woods cannot be reproduced; they only occur when wood is used over time, and our artisans always assure these organic antique features are paid the respect they deserve when crafting your floor.
This is what truly sets our antique floors apart, making Woodworks world-leading experts in reclaiming and restoring antique woods – the time and care we grant to every piece. The striking results are unachievable without the visionary talents of our artisans.
These are floors that have history locked into every burr and grain. Exceedingly rare. Our craftspeople at our English workshops have the collective centuries of knowledge required to bring out their extraordinary design. The twenty-stage restoration process leaves our antique oak and elm with an elegant patina and a remarkable original look that celebrates the imperfections of time.
These wondrous imperfections represent the very opposite of the homogeneous and bring a truly understated beauty to our unique woods.
Our antique collection has elegance and mysticism that simply cannot be matched, requiring a discerning appreciation to master.
They aren’t solely about history though – antique and reclaimed woods represent the very best in terms of quality timber.
Antique woods required the utmost care and understanding in order to appreciate, and as such, we invite you to have a conversation about them. Email hello@woodworks1988.com to arrange a free consultation with one of our antique experts today.

BABINGTON
TREEHOUSE HOTEL
Hotel
Project Name: Treehouse Hotel
Location: London, United Kingdom
Sector: Hotel
Featured Floor: Babington, Plank
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The Treehouse Hotel aims to offer a revolutionary new kind of hospitality which is both fun and functional. This fresh hotel concept has been developed by Barry Sternlicht, founder of Starwood Capital Group. Many of the wooden surfaces in this immersive experience, including the flooring, cladding, skirting and surrounds, were developed by Woodworks using reclaimed farm cart oak.
HOW WE HELPED
A sustainable, restored antique wood floor was the only logical option for the hotel, as they represent the very best in terms of sustainability and quality. As a team, we prescribed Babington. These oak boards were claimed from antiquated farm carts and hay barns, and their next chapter was written by our masterful hand-craftsmen in Northern England, who worked with every piece to create a flooring with historical, delicate, soulful notes.
OUTCOME
Cosy, welcoming and colorful, just like your childhood clubhouse, The Treehouse is a rustic escape that perfectly demonstrates modern sensibility whilst offering an insurgent new hospitality experience which won’t harm your all-important eco-credentials. A design triumph.
RARE FINDS
Our Rare Finds collection tells the finest tales we have ever discovered. All the woods in this collection are reclaimed antiques, meaning each is over 100 years old and steeped in historical meaning.
From the War Office Pine, privy to conversations of key historical figures throughout both World Wars, to the residential areas of Indonesia where teak took pride for centuries and everything in between.
Due to the rarity of these reclaimed woods, each floor in this collection is finite, and once they are gone, they will be gone forever. Woodworks originals with collector value. If you’re looking to use something extra special and unique within your upcoming projects, this is the collection for the select few who can appreciate such.
These reclaimed woods aren’t simply defined by their historical tales though – these timbers are of the very best available. The historical buildings and sites we reclaimed them from demanded the use of the highest quality natural material available in order to stand the test of time.
We don’t simply reclaim old woods either, we restore them, beautifully.
Our expert artisans work the texture by hand and slowly build up finishes that allow the wood to breathe, transforming each into a floor fit for modern life. Throughout the restoration process we assure that the original patina remains intact. An original patina cannot be manufactured or replicated. Stunning. One will only appear over time as the wood is polished through the decades and centuries.
Our artisans work tirelessly with the wood, hand polishing to accentuate and enhance their subtle beauty whilst preserving everything that makes the wood for special.
Rare Finds are entirely finite and due to their nature, they will not be around forever. To use these once-in-alifetime woods in your projects, get in touch with our team today via hello@woodworks1988.com

BESPOKE WORKSPACE
Workspace
Project Name: Bespoke Workspace
Location: USA
Sector: Workspace
Featured Floor: Seaforth Pine
Collection: Rare Finds
PROJECT OVERVIEW
We were approached by this international asset management company when they were refurbishing their offices. They were looking for something that had character, and that was of the ultimate quality, which could be used for flooring, cladding, and bespoke desks.
HOW WE HELPED
Seaforth Pine, a treasure from our Rare Finds portfolio, was specified due to its unique appearance and historically-impactful qualities. We reclaimed Seaforth from a disused warehouse on the Liverpool Docks. This location played a massive role in the British industrial revolution, providing a port for all manner of materials to arrive and leave the North of the country. Our masterful artisans restored the pine into a museum quality floor suitable for modern life.
OUTCOME
As Seaforth was one of our Rare Finds, it meant that it wasn’t going to be available forever, with each of the floors in this collection being a one-of-a-kind piece. Collector’s items. This workspace used the entirety of the reclaimed timber, with the discerning approach creating a completely unique space.
CARBONISED
Yakisugi is the ancient Japanese technique of charring wood to produce striking deep, silvered tones.
The practice has many names, but always involves the use of an open fire or controlled flame to char the wood before cooling, cleaning and treating it with natural oils to create a dark visual style and a unique tactile feel. An unorthodox approach.
Carried out centuries ago in Japan, the term can be literally translated as ‘burned cedar.’ It has been used as a traditional method to protect wooden surfaces, mostly for exterior cladding on traditional Japanese houses in the absence of alternative protection methods.
Grasping Yakisugi is incredibly challenging, but our artisans assure that each piece is carefully charred to perfection. We only use the very best reclaimed and antique woods for this collection, with the results being striking statement masterpieces.
Once the wood is charred, we set to work on the surface, which is much more malleable post-charring. This allows our artisans to heavily brush the surface, removing soft summer growth and some harder winter growth, creating sculptural contours in a variety of mineral and organic tones. Brutalist design meets wooden flooring.
We then finish these reclaimed and new woods by hand with our Naked Skin Lacquer or Restoration Oil finishes. These slow-cured finishes ensure that the reclaimed wood can write another chapter in its history, lasting a lifetime within your project.
This collection now also features more consistent tonal variation and is much more refined, with fewer holes and splits, without expelling the natural variation which makes this collection special. Order a sample box today via hello@woodworks1988.com in order to begin.

Featured Floor:
Lead, Plank

Carbonised
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Issho – which translates to “together” in Japanese – is a contemporary dining destination located in England. Working closely with D&D London, acclaimed designers DesignLSM created a vibrant restaurant space that has an authentic and refined aesthetic, achieved through using materials that give a subtle nod to the delicate textured fabrics of East Asia.
HOW WE HELPED
DesignLSM used a bold yet simple palette for the scheme, which revolved around natural materials and elements including black charred timber. Organic and pure. The charred timber used throughout the bar area is Lead, our Yakisugi cladding from the Carbonised portfolio. Ancient Japanese techniques are used to char the wood, creating rich, silvery tones. A statement masterpiece fusing historic origin and an artistic approach.
OUTCOME
With the surface linking customers back to nature and the past, the black tone creates an intricate space that screams authentic Japan and provides a natural escape. DesignLSM’s creation also shows the versatility of the carefully crafted Carbonised collection.
3 DESIGN
Woodworks have always been led by design.
We craft a multitude of different flooring designs (also referred to as formats) which can be used to create different laying patterns within your project.
Whether it is a traditional plank, which spans most of our collections, or our own unique circular designs in the Parquetry collection, we have always made wood flooring designs our own.
Get in touch with our expert team via hello@woodworks1988.com today to learn how these formats can best be incorporated into your upcoming projects.
PLANK
Woodworks broke all the rules when it came to wide planks, creating the widest widths and longest lengths available. This was an industry first, as narrow maple strip floors were the standard at the time.
Many thought this would be impossible, but we wanted to provide a true design innovation and were unwavering in our commitment to making wide planks a reality. Our Woodworks planks are now available in every width and thickness.
All of our planks are individually finished by the hands of our English artisans and sizes can be combined to create an understated and exciting design statement.
Plank floors feature in the following collections: Editions, Aged, Superwide, Urban, Superfine, Native Timbers, Bold Surfaces, Antique, Rare Finds and Carbonised and here is just a taste of what is available in this design. A full selection of plank floors can be found in the collections section.
Please see our product specification tables, located at the end of each collection for all dimensions.
Plank design is the most classic and longstanding flooring pattern. Simple excellence.
HERRINGBONE
Herringbone is enduring in its appeal and adds a subtly ornate feel to spaces.
Timeless and versatile, adding flow between spaces with ease.
Herringbone parquet has influenced design throughout the centuries, from floors to paving stones, and upholstery to fabrics and rugs. Nowadays the design is experiencing a real resurgence due to its versatility.
Whilst the traditional laying pattern resembles a fish bone (hence the name) our herringbone floors are intelligently designed to be suitable for use in over 20 different styles. Get in touch with our team via hello@woodworks1988.com to find out more.

CHEVRON
Chevron floors are at the forefront of precision design.
Our chevron floors are all carefully finished by hand with edge details that allow each block to either strictly stand out from one another using a bevel, or blend together with a pillowed, hand-rolled edge.
These are modest floors with harmonious proportions.
Woodworks even create chevron floors in dimensions unlike any you will have seen before, with small and large sizes outside the norm available via our bespoke service.

PARQUET DE VERSAILLES
An innovative Woodworks flooring design.
Our wood flooring masters hand-cut the elements within our panels, making our Parquet de Versailles floors are unmatched in quality and synchronicity.
Not only are our panels crafted from the finest antique, reclaimed and new materials, we are the only creators in the world to match each element from panel to panel. The result, a completely flowing design unachievable outside of Woodworks.
This creates a harmonious look across every section of your floor, which cannot be achieved elsewhere. Continuous Versailles options without the borders are also available.

PANEL DESIGNS
Sophisticated and distinctive, perfectly proportioned panel designs.
The beauty of each panel design lies in the simplicity of their geometric shaping and clean lines. Balance.
Our panels are all created by hand and each element is hand cut, meaning no two floors will ever be the same, especially when paired with antique or reclaimed wood.
These unique flooring designs can elevate spaces, and we recommend laying on an angle to create a modern design statement. True works of art.

CIRCULAR DESIGNS
Thought provoking harmonious designs.
Unique to Woodworks, Sapphire and Inca are both registered designs, meaning you won’t find them anywhere else. A journey into the unknown.
Choosing these circular floors within your project creates an innovative high design statement, making your space more immersive and memorable, evoking connections with the natural world.
These special parquetry designs have taken years for our artisans to master and require careful execution to ensure the overall appearance is perfectly proportioned every time. Circular shapes are amongst the most difficult to craft wooden flooring from and we are proud to say our masterful artisans have the skill set to create them.

We combine shapes together in order to create interesting new designs that are seldom seen. Curiosity.
Each shape is individually created and arranged, with perfectly selected edge details and finishes that complement the overall appearance of the floor.

CHEQUERBOARD AND FINGERBLOCK
Impressive intricately proportioned floors.
A series of smaller blocks combine to create a motif which resembles a classic chess board look. We appreciate these designs so much we even chose to use them in our Woodworks Head Office in Cheshire, England.
The individual blocks showcase the undulating movement of antique and reclaimed textures excellently.
We supply these floors as either individual blocks or in larger planks for easy application, depending on your project’s specifications. Contact us via hello@woodworks1988.com to find out more about any of our Woodworks designs.

END GRAIN
The true enchantment of wood is revealed in its heart.
The growth rings of end grain cuts are an inspired alternative to the planks cut from the length of the tree as opposed to widths which are commonly used.
Originally used in traditional parquetry, our modern take on this theme combines the end grain cutting technique with skillful engineering and masterful finishing to create a statement floor with greater durability.
The result: an extremely stable floor with a unique look and harmonious link to nature.
End Grain floors feature in the following collections: Parquetry and here is just a taste of what is available in this design. A full selection of end-grain floors can be found in the collections section.

CLADDING

Crafted in a variety of designs and often in a solid construction, our wall and ceiling cladding adds soul, honesty and feeling to decorative surfaces. Organic design.

Wood beyond the floor. This cladding needs a discernable understanding of the beauty of wood to be best used within your commercial projects.

IMPORTANT DETAILS
The beauty of a handmade floor lies in the intricacies of nature.
Every Woodworks floor is meticulously checked throughout the crafting process to ensure that each floor we create achieves the extraordinary standards which we set ourselves.
It is important therefore that you understand the finer details, many of which are influenced solely by nature, when selecting the perfect handmade floor to match your project.
Within this section, please take the time to understand our grading, textures, edge details, finishes and more, as each can impact the performance and the appearance of your flooring.
GRADING
QUALITY CONTROL STATEMENT
determines the amount and size of natural features within a single wood floor.
Grading
It is important to understand how characterful or clean you want your floor to be, as it will affect the overall appearance of the floor.
On this page, you will find our grading scale, which showcases all of the different grades we craft in Woodworks.
We have a strict grading policy that starts at the raw material stage. Every single board that we create with is checked and placed in the correct grade specified; this check includes the amount of sapwood, colour variation, open and closed knots and end splits amongst other important checks.
The raw material is only used once every board, is separated into the correct grade and assigned to the floor. At each stage of production – whether its grading, filling, texture or finishing – every single board is checked again and scrutinized to make sure the wood is correct and we pride ourselves in providing the highest quality grade.
Please be advised that whilst some grades are cleaner than others, they cannot eliminate all the variable features of wood, due to it being a natural material. Variation should be expected, and celebrated, when specifying a Woodworks floor.
PRIME
The cleanest grade that gives the most uniform appearance. It allows for a small number of knots, but has minimal amounts of sapwood and the smallest amount of tonal variation.
SELECT
A mix of prime and cleaner nature grade boards. Most planks will be sap free, with some irregular grain and a limited number of knots allowed.
NATURE
Boards can include sapwood and heartwood which has a wider tonal variation. Irregular grain, knots and complementary filler will be used.
CHARACTER
Characterful wood that includes some larger knots with checks across growth rings, wider tonal variation across boards, heartwood, sapwood, and filler.
RUSTIC
A heavier grade than nature which allows a virtually limitless size and number of knots, heartwood and tonal variation throughout the boards. There is no minimum amount of sapwood or filler.
GENUINE RECLAIMED
Characterful features can include nail holes, restoration features, weather cracks, as well as filler, limitless knots, checks, sap, and tonal variation.
TEXTURE
Woodworks believe that living with extra special woods matters. This is epitomized by the seasoned textures we create.
Our artisans’ handwork each of our textures to showcase the natural movement and shaping of wood, linking your project back to nature. Feeling the texture is the only true way to understand what makes these wood surfaces so extraordinary, so we recommend ordering a sample box via hello@woodworks1988.com to experience these woods under your fingertips.
Here you will find information about all the textures that we create in Woodworks.
LIGHTLY BRUSHED
By using a variety of materials our artisans gently remove unwanted soft summer growth and reveal the natural beauty of the wood’s grain patterns.
HEAVILY BRUSHED
Our heaviest brushing creates more prominent grooves within the wood’s texture, adding to the movement of the wood and revealing yet more of the grain patterns.
SAWN
Inspired by the natural wear and tear of reclaimed wood, we add shallow and deep saw marks to the surface for a delicately rustic feel.
MEDIUM BRUSHED
A slightly heavier hand brushing that helps to reveal the natural grain patterns on the surface of the wood whilst removing the soft summer growth that develops in nature.
UNDULATING
An organic surface that pays homage to the movement of centuries-old originals. We work the natural undulations by hand to help accentuate the beautiful shaping and consider this texture is a key part of our Woodworks ‘house style’.
WORN AND RESTORED
Having faced the challenges of history, we fully restore the surface of our antique and reclaimed woods to emphasize their movement, patina and historical imperfections.
SMOOTH
Our artisans carefully handsand the surface of the wood over time to achieve a sleek, uniform look across the floor.
EDGE DETAIL
Some produce a clear distinction between block-to-block, with others seamlessly fitting together with no join visible, depending on the overall look you are wanting to achieve.
The best way to begin understanding what edge detail you require is to think about the age of the project you are creating. Micro bevel and square shoulder floors tend to lend themselves best to modern and contemporary spaces, whilst handrolled edges are a more traditional edge detail which are more commonly associated with classic and period projects.
On some samples, the edge detail will not be present, or can be difficult to distinguish from one floor to another, so it is important to understand how they all differ.
Here you will find all of our edge details available within the Woodworks portfolio.
HAND-ROLLED EDGES
Taking time and patience to develop a hand-rolled edge gives a careful pillowed effect to edges, allowing elements to roll smoothly into one another.
This is the most natural-looking edge detail and offers more movement across the entire floor. The look is created using a traditional metal roller and takes much more time and effort to develop when compared with other edge details.
MICRO BEVEL
A sharp edge is applied to a board or block to create a deeper groove when fitted together, granting a greater definition to the detail.
By bevelling the edge each element stands out with distinctive lines separating your design. This look is often associated with modern and contemporary projects.
SQUARE SHOULDER
Less defined looking joins whereby the edges meet perfectly and form a single-looking homogeneous unit across your entire surface.
This look is most commonly seen in parquetry whereby sanding the floor and finishing on-site leaves an incredibly smooth surface.
BESPOKE
Other edge details are available with Woodworks, such as hand-sanded and distressed edges – in order to learn more about these options, please get in touch with our expert team via hello@woodworks1988.com.
Our artisans punctuate the edge of every Woodworks element by hand, with a perfectly selected edge detail making a world of difference to the overall motif of your floor.
FINISHES
Applied by hand and allowed to dry slowly in the air between coatings.
Finishing a Woodworks floor takes an incredible amount of time and patience and no other wood flooring supplier builds up finishes in the same manner.
Every consideration is taken when partnering our woods with the perfect surface to complement each feature.
Finish is important in assuring that your Woodworks floor lasts a lifetime within your project, so be sure to contact our expert team if you require a more specific surface.
On the following page you can see all of the artisan finishes which are exclusively crafted for your Woodworks floor.
MATT LACQUER
Our matt finishes give a warm look to floors and work extremely well in rooms with a great deal of sunlight.
Slowly dried using ultraviolet light to offer the maximum durability possible, the surface is very easy to maintain.
SATIN LACQUER
Creating a beautiful subtle patina on the surface of your floor with a gentle sheen across the wood. Each layer is air-dried and hand sanded to ensure that your floor stands the test of time. This takes much longer to complete but offers a great deal more protection.
BURNISHED HARDWAX OIL
A slow build-up of air-dried coats grants superior protection throughout the years and the surface is easy to maintain, even in high-traffic areas. The surface reflects light well, making it a strong choice in areas that experience a lot of natural light. Matt and satin options are available.
OILWOOD TRAFFIC
A natural oil granting a neutral toned matt look. The top layer of this surface is highly resistant, being especially effective against water and other fluids. This surface provides the advanced durability you would expect from a lacquer whilst being easy take care of and maintain.
RESTORATION OIL
The perfect partner for naturally toned floors. Restricting dirt and debris, this oil provides a true warmth and comfort to the surface of the wood.
Restoration Oil penetrates deep into the wood’s pores to restrict dirt from entering the grain and should never need re-sanding.
NAKED SKIN LACQUER
An invisible finish allows the natural tones and features of the wood to shine.
Dried and sanded between coats for the highest possible level of protection, with a minimum of three coats being applied to assure lifelong protection. Matt and satin options are available, please get in touch with your Woodworks expert to discuss these.
ORGANIC LACQUER
A new innovative lacquer with a natural look and feel, granting a sought-after organic appearance with superior protection.
Suitable for even high-traffic commercial areas, the lacquer pairs well with both light and dark toned woods, producing a matt look on the surface.
UNFINISHED AND PAINTED
Supplied free of any surface to allow you to select your own creative finishing touches when laid within your project.
Some woods are hand-painted by our artisans to compliment the overall aesthetic of the wood, allowing for more intricate and creative colours and tonal options when laid. A finish can be provided on top of this on-site.

To ensure your floor’s longevity, we don’t recommend using any other branded cleaning products on your Woodworks floor. Most branded floor cleaners are solvent or bleached based and will damage your floor, leading to discolouration.
As long as your floor is maintained regularly with the Woodworks Floor Care Systems, there is no need for special treatment. The correct Floor Care System is sufficient for maintaining your floor.
If your floor appears tired, we recommend using the Intensive Polish (lacquered based finished floors) or Oil Replenish (oil based finished floor) as required. You can purchase the correct floor care system for your floor by contacting your Woodworks provider or by emailing hello@woodworks1988.com
*Please note: Care Systems will be branded Ted Todd (our parent brand) and work in exactly the same way with Woodworks flooring.

ARCHITECTURAL DETAILS
Providing the finishing touches to your floor.
At Woodworks we offer a full portfolio of architectural details that are handmade alongside your order to ensure the best possible complement to your flooring.
We make these items entirely by hand and due to the variations in natural wood and the differences in how we make architectural elements you will see some noticeable differences.
Be sure to speak to our Woodworks specification consultants at the earliest possible stage regarding your architectural details – this will allow us to manage the project in the best possible manner and reduce variations.
Email hello@woodworks1988.com today to discuss your project.
UNDERSTANDING YOUR WOODWORKS FLOOR
All of our Woodworks floors are handcrafted in our English workshops, meaning there are many differences and intricacies to consider when purchasing one.
Woodworks floors are extraordinary achievements of design and artisan crafting and should be treated as such.
Handcrafting a Woodworks floor is an art which requires various intricate techniques and much more time, care and attention than machined creation. They represent the very opposite of mass manufacturing.
Handcrafting means that a Woodworks floor is open to a lot more variation throughout each individual floor, from batch to batch and between sample and final product. This is not the same as a floor which uses machine-led manufacturing that eliminates variations.
Even with our new woods, there can be a great deal of variation.
This is what Woodworks is all about, creating extraordinary unique floors.
We celebrate the imperfections, and we hope you do so too.

Our extraordinary floors have been crafted using the finest new materials from around the globe and are available in a variety of tones, designs, grades, textures, edge details and finishes. Each is unique, and the best way to understand them is to experience them in person.
You can get to know these floors by ordering a sample box via hello@woodworks1988.com today.
RATINGS
SLIP RATING
Wood floors are often used in public spaces and so it is important to know how slippery they may be to assess the risk of slips and falls.
There are two main slip tests:
(i) The DIN system according to DIN 51130. This method involves the use of a mechanical ramp that is gradually increased in angle until the point that a person wearing shoes with a safety sole will slip. Various contaminants can be introduced such as oil, water, soap etc. The results will be expressed as an R-value typically between 9 (most slippery) and 13 (least slippery).
(ii) The Pendulum test according to BS7976. In this simple and portable test, a swinging, imitation heel (using a standardized rubber shoe sole sample), sweeps over a set area of flooring in a controlled manner. The slipperiness of the flooring has a direct and measurable effect on the pendulum test value (PTV) given. Contaminants such as water or dust can be introduced as this will have a marked effect on the slip rating of the floor. PTV values 0 to 24 show high slip potential; 25 to 35 moderate slip potential and 36+ low slip potential.
FIRE RATING
All our Woodworks products are manufactured and tested with strict safety regulations and performance standards.
Products intended to be used as wall cladding are provided pre-finished. However, we can work with any State specific fire-retardancy requirements to provide you with a dedicated solution to comply with the firesafety standard required.

Architectural details provide the all-important finishing touches to your floor. They include architraves, skirting boards, stair treads and pipe ferrules, they can also be finished to complement your floor and we make these items entirely by hand. Due to the variations in natural wood and the differences in how we make architectural elements, you will see some noticeable differences.
