Street Dance Magazine e streetdancemagazine.it si sono posti l’obiettivo di colmare un gap cronico nella scena street dance italiana.

In un momento in cui l’informazione è frammentaria e confusionale, abbiam voluto aprire un’ampia finestra sulla streetdance italiana e mondiale, valorizzando il punto di vista e le esperienze dei più grandi artisti internazionali, dei professionisti e degli eventi più meritevoli di considerazione. Attraverso le loro parole, siamo sicuri si possa fare una buona comunicazione, ricevendo stimoli e ampliando la nostra conoscenza e consapevolezza. Senza informazione non c’è cultura.

Street Dance Magazine and streetdancemagazine.it set themselves the target to plug a chronic gap in the Italian Street Dance scene.

In a period where information is fragmentary and confuse we wanted to open a wide window about street dance, in Italy and around the world, increasing the point of view and the experience of the biggest interational artists, of pro and of the events which deserve more consideration. Through their words, we’re sure it will be a good comunication, reciving incentives and wideing our knowledge and consciousness. Without information there is no culture!

Sei una delle donne più importanti nella scena lockin’ pur essendo giapponese.

Come ti rapporti alla cultura funk degli States?

Vengo da Fukuoka, sud del Giappone, la mia prima insegnante fa parte della BeBop Crew, una crew giapponese di lockin’. Ho iniziato con loro. Poi Tony GoGo venne proprio a Fukuoka, ho così avuto modo di studiare molto con lui, imparando il flavour del lockin’. Ecco come ho scoperto che la musica proveniva dagli States.

Ho inoltre imparato molto dagli OG americani, per cui non ho nessun dubbio sulle origini di questa danza. Semplicemente la mischio, divertendomi con il mio lockin’.

You’re one of the most important women in the lockin’ dance scene, but you’re from Japan. How do you relate with the funk american culture?

I’m from Fukuoka, south of Japan, I had a teacher which was in the BeBob Crew, a Japanese lockin’ crew, so when I started I learned a lot from them about lockin’. Then Tony Go Go moved to Fukuoka City, so I studied with him, learning the lockers flava.

So that’s how I understood that the music came from the US, I learned from a lot of OG, American OGs, so I don’t have any doubt about where it comes from. I just mix it up, having fun with my lockin’.

La scena lockin’ giapponese è molto forte.

In Giappone i ballerini praticano moltissimo le basi e dopo molta pratica iniziano a divertirsi con esse facendo freestyle. Inoltre sono molto dediti ed umili riguardo le foundations, per loro sono importanti. Ecco perché il nostro livello è così alto.

The lockin’ scene in Japan is very strong.

Many people like to practice a lot the basics here. So they practice basics stuff over and over. So only when they get the basics they start having fun with it and to do freestyle.

Japanese people are very humble about foundations, it’s very important to them, that’s why our level is so high.

Come ti alleni, ti nutri e prepari te stessa per la danza?

Una volta mi allenavo molto fisicamente, ma ora sono più concentrata sull’attitudine mentale ed il feeling per la danza. Quindi non si tratta più di quante ore mi alleno fisicamente, ascolto musica provando ad immaginare e pensare i movimenti nella mia testa. Ovviamente continuo a ballare con gioia, però sento che in questo momento per me sono più importanti il lato mentale e quello del feeling della danza, rispetto a quante ore alleno il corpo.

How do you train, how do you feed and how do you prepare yourself for dancing?

I used to practice a lot physically, but now I’m more focused on the mental and feeling sides about dancing. Now I just listen to the music, trying to think about the movements in my head. Of course I’m always dancing with joy, but I feel that the mental and feeling sides are more important right now. It’s bigger stuff than how many hours you get to train your body.

Sei stata due volte a The Week e ci tornerai per la prossima edizione. Cosa ne pensi di questo evento?

In quest’ultima edizione (2013, ndr), ho visto molta più gente rispetto alla precedente, l’evento si sta ingrandendo ed è una cosa buona. In particolare quest’anno mi è piaciuta la finale mondiale di Street Fighters, il livello degli show era molto alto e molte performance sono state perfette. Questo mi ha impressionata.

Sono molto felice di esserci stata, sia per il livello della line-up che degli studenti. Mi sento veramente onorata di lavorare con queste persone e voglio ringraziare lo staff di The Week per aver reso quest’evento la scelta migliore per gli insegnanti.

You’ve been at The Week twice and you’re going to be there next year too.

What do you think about this event?

In this last edition (2013, ndr) I’ve seen more people than in 2011, this event is getting bigger and that’s a really good thing. Last year I especially enjoyed the Street Fighters World Final, the level of the shows was very high, many team performed perfectly, showing up to the people. That’s very impressive for me. I’m really happy to having been there, for the level of the line-up and the students. I feel very honored to work with these people and I want to thank The Week team for making this event the best choice for teachers.

meech Come into my world

Che cos’è stato “Drop It” di Franck Louise? In che modo sei stato coinvolto nella cosa e che cos’ha significato per te come ballerino?

Per me è stato un importantissimo progetto coreografico. Mi ha insegnato che per essere un buon ballerino devi avere una buona preparazione tecnica, per averne padronanza ed accettare che quando lavori con la gente, devi condividere amore e passione per la danza, che vali tanto quanto gli altri e che è difficile ottenere un buon risultato senza lavorare sodo. è stata un’esperienza grandiosa, che non dimenticherò.

What was “Drop it” by Franck 2 Louise? How did you get involved in it and what did it mean to you as a dancer?

To me “Drop it” was a very important choreo project in my career. It taught me that in order to be a good dancer you have to understand a good dance technique, to master it, to accept that when you work with people you have to share love and passion for dance, you are in the same value of them and it’s difficult to get a good result without working hard. It was a really great experience, I won’t forget it.

Meech: meglio come giocatore di basket o come ballerino?

Non sono molte le persone che conoscono il mio background sportivo…

Sono meglio come giocatore di basket, l’ho praticato negli Stati Uniti tempo addietro, durante tre mesi di college. Poi ho deciso di ballare.

Meech: a better basketball player or dancer?

Not a lot of people knows my sports background…

I’m better at basketball, I played in the US back in the days during a three months period in a college. Then I decided to dance.

House, hip hop, krump… in quali di questi stili senti maggiori vibrazioni??

Tutti quanti rappresentano me stesso ed io sono questi tre stili. Anzi, in realtà ne manca uno: le tradizioni della tribù africana di cui facevo parte da giovane, prima dell’hip hop.

House, hip-hop, krump... in which one do you feel more vibes?

These styles are myself and I am these styles, actually there’s one missing: the african tribe traditions I was into when I was young, before hip-hop.

Cosa credi sia cambiato in questi 25 anni per la danza?

Molto. Abbiamo il compito di tracciare un buon percorso per i giovani che verranno dopo di noi, dando loro la possibilità di costruire il proprio futuro.

What do you think has changed in these 25 years of dancing?

A lot. We have the responsibility to draw a good path for the kids coming up behind us, to let them build their future.

Come ti alleni?

Sei ore al giorno, facendo musica, allenandomi su questa e concentrandomi sulla condivisione.

Che cosa sono “Too High Spirit” e “O’Trip House”? E quali sono i tuoi/loro obiettivi?

Too High Spirit è un’associazione che ho creato per i miei studenti nel 2004. Al tempo mi spostavo molto, così ho voluto dar loro un posto dove allenarsi senza di me, avevo anche l’obiettivo di dar loro un’educazione e buone basi per crescere in questa vita, condividendo la mia esperienza di vita e portando persone dall’estero, perché condividessero anch’esse la loro passione. O’Trip House è invece un progetto creato nel 2003, per poter mettere insieme tutti

How do you train?

Six hours a day by making music, practicing on that and sharing.

What are “Too High Spirit” and “O’Trip House”? What about your/their goals?

“Too High Spirit” is an association I created for my students in 2004.

At that time I moved a lot so I wanted to let them practice in a place without myself, I also had the goal to give them an education and good basics to grow up in this life by exchanging my experience of life and bringing other people from abroad to share their passion too.

“O’Trip House” is a project I created in 2003, to unify all French people loving house music

Ora siamo in sei: Joseph Go, Daneshiro, Rickysoul, Rabah, Didier ed io. Organizziamo sessioni di workshop e teniamo conferenze sulla danza, in cui parliamo della storia dell’house francese, dei party e dei battle.

Durante il Summer Dance Forever abbiamo visto un Meech diverso rispetto alla performance del Juste Debout Italy.

Cos’è successo?

La danza è viva ed io sono il risultato dell’atmosfera che mi circonda. La musica era diversa ed anche il fatto che io fossi da solo era diverso rispetto a quando sono in coppia od in un trio. Sono sempre così quando ballo da solo. Inoltre ora la gente comprende di più la mia danza rispetto a prima, perché lavoro sull’aspetto gioioso di essa quando ballo.

During Summer Dance Forever we saw a different Meech than the one who performed in JD Italy. What happened?

Dance is alive and I’m the result of the atmosphere around me. The music was different too, even when I am in a solo situation it’s different than when I’m in duet or trio. I always am like that when I am in a solo situation. Whatsmore, people now understand my dance more than before, ‘cause I work on the joyful aspects of dance in all my dancing.

Cosa ti aspetti da Danza in Fiera a Firenze?

Molto divertimento.

What do you expect from Danza In Fiera in Florence?

A lot of fun!

27 February / 2 March 2014 - Firenze, Fortezza da Basso Torna Danzainfiera, l’evento imperdibile per gli amanti della danza. Il nono appuntamento annuale con questa manifestazione internazionale dedicherà largo spazio agli eventi legati al mondo street, con lezioni, stage, contest ed ospiti tra i più noti e apprezzati del panorama mondiale.

La Fortezza da Basso di Firenze, quindi, sarà ancora travolta da tutta l’energia di questa disciplina che conta un numero sempre maggiore di appassionati, anche in Italia.

Come ogni anno, Danzainfiera è il luogo in cui poter studiare con i nomi di spicco della scena internazionale, per migliorare il proprio stile e confrontarsi con il top che il mondo della Street possa offrire.

Sabato 1 marzo, spazio agli stage con 2 insegnanti provenienti dalla Juste Debout School: la prestigiosa scuola francese nota per la danza hip hop che vanta i migliori docenti a livello mondiale. Lo stage di hip hop sarà a cura di Meech – prima vincitore, poi giudice del Juste Debout - che farà conoscere al pubblico di Danzainfiera il suo particolare stile di ballo: una fusion di più generi capace di catapultarci nelle atmosfere afro, passando dal breakin’ con il footwork e incontrando i ritmi giamaicani della dancehall.

Totalmente diverse saranno le movenze protagoniste dello stage di Natsuko, la performer giapponese che porterà a DIF l’accattivante hip hop L.A. Style. Grazie a una brillante carriera di ballerina – iniziata da piccolissima - coinvolgerà tutti con la sua tecnica impeccabile nata dal mix tra le sue origini asiatiche e le tante esperienze collezionate in giro per il mondo.

Domenica 2 marzo, si potrà invece scegliere tra il poppin’ con le sue “contraction/release” e i movimenti più fluidi del lockin’; entrambi gli stili saranno portati in sala da Storm: ballerino e coreografo di fama mondiale, uno dei pionieri dell’hip hop e del funk.

A DIF2014, inoltre, vi sarà l’opportunità per i visitatori di cimentarsi nei vari stili dell’hip hop, grazie alle tante lezioni che si susseguiranno nei 4 giorni della manifestazione.

The hip hop masterclass will be held by Meech – Juste Debout winner and then teacher – he will introducing his unusual dance style. A fusion of different genres: afro atmosphere,breakin’, footwork and jamaican rhythms of dancehall.

Natsuko, Japanese performer, will bring a completely different vision with her hip hop L.A. Style: a flawless technique born from the mix of her Asiatic origin and all experiences collected around the world.

Sunday the 2nd of March you can choose between poppin’ with its “contraction/release” and the fluid movements of lockin’. Both will be taughtby Storm: renowned dancer and choreographer, funk and hip hop pioneer.

In addition, at DIF2014, the visitors will have the chance to take part in numerous classes of hip hop style, in a 4-days never-ending rush.

The unmissable events Danzainfiera is proud to announce the “Red Bull BC One Florence Cypher” the biggest breaking competition 1vs1 in the world, which will crown the best bboy on the planet.

Red Bull Bc One Cypher Italy

8 marzo 2014 Ancora inebriati dalla splendida cavalcata di Froz alla World Final del Red Bull Bc One di Seoul lo scorso novembre, l’Italia del breakin’ non perde tempo ed è già alla ricerca di un nuovo b.boy in grado di rappresentare la nostra scena.

L’8 marzo, al Matis di Bologna, i migliori 16 b.boys italiani si sfideranno nel primo round, verso la finale mondiale che si terrà il prossimo inverno a Parigi.

Il “panel” - commissione composta da Denis Di Pasqua, Fluido, Foglia, Monsa, Chrystelle, e PhilGood - ha scelto gli 11 tra i b.boys più meritevoli, mentre gli altri 5 saranno a Bologna grazie alle vittorie conseguite nelle wild cards messe a disposizione nei City Cyphers.

Segnaliamo la prossima in palio a Firenze a Danza in Fiera, sabato 1 Marzo, oltre alle 2 messe a disposizione a Bologna durante il giorno dell’evento.

Il Red Bull BC One Cypher Italy 2014 sarà quello della consapevolezza: se da un lato, grazie a Froz, la World Final del Red Bull BC One non è più un miraggio irraggiungibile, dall’altro tra i giudici dell’8 marzo siederà Cima. Un significativo riconoscimento per un bboy che grazie a talento, integrità morale e carisma è ormai una figura di primordine nel panorama internazionale.

8th march 2014 After Froz amazing ride at Red Bull BC One World Final in november 2013, breakin’ made in Italy doesn’t waste any time and it’s already looking for a new bboy to represent its scene.

On the 8th of March at Matis, in Bologna, the 16 best italian bboys will battle the first round for the next winter World Final in Paris.

The panel - composed by Denis di Pasqua, Fluido, Foglia, Monsa, Chrystelle and PhilGood - chose eleven worthy bboys inside the scene, while the remaining five will get to Bologna through the City Cyphers wild cards.

The next wild card will be up for grabs at Danza in Fiera in Florence on Saturday the 1st of March, while two more will be available in Bologna on the Cypher’s day. Red Bull BC One Cypher Italy 2014 will be the one of awareness: Froz showed that the Red Bull BC One World Final isn’t out of reach anymore, while Cima will be judging this Italian Cypher. It’s a meaningful award for a talented, pristine and charismatic bboy, who is by now prominent figure in the International panorama.

Street Fighters World Tour 2014 Mode On Ripartiamo dall’immagine della World Final 2013, in cui il pubblico ha fatto a gara per fotografarsi con i The End, vincitori giapponesi. Fissiamo quello spaccato mai visto prima, con la voglia di conoscere ed apprezzare nuove crew e nuovi ballerini pronti ad accettare sorprese e novità.

Prepariamoci a vivere intensamente sette mesi, migliaia di chilometri e centinaia di street dancers, che non vedono l’ora di esibire il proprio talento e la propria arte. Inseriamo la modalità “on”, per abbandonarci alla spensieratezza dagli after party, all’adrenalina dell’attesa ed alla gioia di questa festa itinerante, che ogni anno regala qualcosa di nuovo. Street Fighters World Tour è un mezzo, non un fine. Sentitelo vostro, sentitelo come un modo per potervi esprimere in maniera libera, godendo della vostra passione, della gente che ogni weekend verrà a sostenere e condividere. Da Vicenza a Kiev, da Tokyo a Salonicco, da Parigi a Napoli, non vediamo l’ora di accendere questo fuoco e farci scaldare dalla vibrazione che ogni ballerino appassionato riesce a trasmettere, in ogni “yeah”, in ogni show, in ogni battle. L’internazionalità, come percorso di crescita, è sempre stato il focus di Street Fighters World Tour, che anno dopo anno sta aumentando in quantità e spessore, lavorando a questo obiettivo a più livelli.

Con l’augurio di vedere le crew italiane raggiungere obiettivi importanti e far capire ancora una volta quanto la nostra scena sia in pieno sviluppo, la speranza maggiore è quella che Street Fighters World Tour sia ancor di più un momento di festa, scambio e stimolo.

H2R - Hip Hop Revolution 7 Ballerini, spettatori, amanti dell’hip hop: non prendete impegni per sabato 10 maggio 2014, il giorno della settima edizione dell’H2R, uno degli eventi primaverili di maggior spessore a livello nazionale. Dancers, audience, people keen on hip hop: don’t make plans for Saturday the 10th of May 2014, the day of H2R seventh edition, one of the main spring national events. AltaForum in Campodarsego will once again be the venue of the event and - after the 2900 people audience in 2013 - is willing to beat every record.

For this purpose Asd Stand Up has involved an international jury of unquestioned prestige, that makes it among the best of all time, remarking the attention and quality that the organization places first and that characterizes the Contest. From Germany STORM, hip hop & funk styles pioneer.

Beauty and femininity will not be missed, due to the presence of ANTOINETTE (Zamounda Crew), a strong reference point in the French street dance. Within this panel is placed CARLOS, a versatile national dancer, leader of The Mnai’s, a constantly more present group in the Italian tv shows. H2R is a contest in constant evolution.

However, it remains faithful to its own characteristics: choreographic contest, starting at 4:00 pm, based on three categories: New Generation (0-12), Junior (13-17) e Senior (+18).

Della vita ho visto molto e dalla vita ho avuto molto. Di certo non mi posso lamentare, anche se le cose me le sono sempre guadagnate con la determinazione e la perspicacia. Una cosa però mancava ancora: un’esperienza all’estero, da solo. New York. Si, la Grande Mela, la città in cui molti sognano di vivere e che per altri è solamente un passaggio, per affari o divertimento. Questa è la mia nona volta qui, ma la prima da solo e con la voglia di conoscere ancor meglio me stesso e quello che questa città ha di più bello per me, ovvero la cultura hip hop. Ho settantuno giorni per ricaricare le batterie ed assorbire il più possibile dai cinque elementi. Dopo una dura ricerca di voli per spendere poco, ne trovo uno alla mia portata con partenza da Verona, via Palermo, per arrivare al JFK. Arrivo il giorno dell’Indipendence Day e già vedo fuochi d’artificio sulla costa dell’Hudson River. Tra me e me dico: sanno che sono qui? Fa sempre bene all’umore! New York è davvero cara, soprattutto per gli affitti. Per fortuna ho un amico italiano qui (Fabyork), che mi sistema in una stanza, anche se molto piccola. Ma quella sarà casa mia e tutto mi gasa alla grande.

La vita a NY è un continuo correre e rallentare, l’uso della parola busy è all’ordine del giorno, sulla bocca di tutti e questo mi fa capire quanto sia frenetico vivere qui, per cui se ce la vuoi fare ti devi sbattere.

Parto subito a cercare connessioni con bboy e stand-up dancers. Con l’aiuto di amici

I have seen and experienced a lot in life and I cannot complain about this, even though I always earned these things with determination and perspicacity. But was still missing one thing: a solo experience abroad. New York. Yes, the Big Apple, the city where most people dream to live in, while others only consider it a transit for business or for fun.

This is my ninth time here, but it’s the first time by myself and with the desire to know myself even better and to know what this city has to offer regarding the hip hop culture. I have 71 days to recharge my batteries and to absorb the most from the five elements.

After a long search for the right flights in order to save money, I found one within my range with departure from Verona, via Palermo. Destination JFK. Arriving on the Independence Day I immediately saw the fireworks on the coast of the Hudson River and between me and myself I thought: Do they know that I’m here?. This is always good for the mood! New York is really expensive, especially to rent an apartment, but luckily I have an Italian friend (Fabyork) who managed to host me in a small room, which was going to be my home for this period, and everything was really exciting.

Life there is all about running and slowing down; the use of the word “busy” is everyday on everyone’s lips, and this makes you realize how chaotic is life and how much you have to commit yourself if you want to succeed. First of all I started to connect with bboys and stand up dancers. With the help of some Italian friends,

italiani, tra cui Rufy, riesco a mettermi in contatto con i Dynamics Rockers. Mi trovo il martedì sera in uno studio alla DNA, dove Kid Glyde dà lezione. Poi ci si allena tutti assieme. Il primo impatto lascia trasparire un po’ di diffidenza, ma una chiacchiera e le info degli eventi ti vengono sempre concessi con molta trasparenza ed educazione. Qui fa sempre piacere quando racconti che sei italiano, al che il tuo interlocutore piazza sempre la frase italiana con il suo accento, che di per sé fa molto ridere. Uno dei primi weekend si presenta subito l’anniversario dei Dynamics Rockers e la sera del sabato c’è il battle a Brooklyn. Nella venue fa un caldo incredibile, con ventilatori che combattono l’umidità sparando aria (ovviamente calda), ma l’atmosfera è tutta da godere. La gente è super esaltata, tutti ci credono e partono sfide anche belle pesanti prima del vero battle, della serie: ti faccio capire chi hai davanti e questo è solamente l’antipasto. Nulla di nuovo per me, anzi: con la testa mi sento a casa! L’evento va alla grande, con bboys e bgirls davvero in gamba e con una grande anima che si libera nel cerchio. La cosa che apprezzo sempre di più è che appena entra qualcuno della vecchia generazione, subito la gente si gira e lo va a salutare. Ad un certo punto arrivano pure i rockers di Brooklyn e lì faccio amicizia con Break Easy dei Dynasty Rockers, che dopo aver scambiato due chiacchiere mi dice di andarmi ad allenare a Mc Carren Park con loro. Certo che sì! Il secondo giorno l’evento si sposta ai 5 Pointz, uno degli spazi dove l’hip hop fa capire la sua grandezza, in uno dei building più colorati che abbia mai visto.

Graffiti ovunque in questo edificio e nella rimessa dei camion la giornata continua alla grande, con concerti dal vivo, show, battle e cerchi da tutte le parti. Perché io entri in un cerchio house ce ne vuole, ma lì mi sento spinto dalla voglia di farmi conoscere e di

Being Italian is always appreciated here and people always joke about the Italian language by saying funny Italian phrases with with American accent. One of my first weekends in NY I faced the anniversary of the Dynamics Rockers and on Saturday evening there was a battle in Brooklyn, in an incredibly hot and humid place - where fans were spinning warm air - but with a great atmosphere.

The people there were super excited and everybody believed in what they were doing and so strong battles came up even before the real one, as if they were saying: “I’ll let you understand who you have in front of you. And this is only the appetizer”. This is nothing new to me and I already felt like home! The event went on great with bboys and bgirls really on top of things and with a great vibe setting free in the circle. The thing I appreciated the most was when somebody of the old school came in: immediately all the people went to say hi. So at some point the Rocker of Brooklyn arrived and that’s when I met Break Easy of the Dynasty Rockers. After some chatting he suggested me to go practice at the Mc Carren Park with them... yes, of course! The second day the event moved to 5 Pointz, one of the places where hip hop shows its greatness and one of the most colourful buildings I have ever seen.

This place is full of graffiti and in the truck warehouse the event was going on with live shows, battles and circles everywhere. It is hard to find me in a house circle, but there I was feeling like I wanted people to notice me and I wanted to remember to have danced in that powerful surrounding.

L’emozione è ancora più forte adesso, se penso che un po’ di tempo dopo il 5 Pointz è stato distrutto per far spazio ad un area commerciale.

Un lunedì vado ad allenarmi al parco per incontrare Break Easy e per poter conoscere pure King Uprock. Appena arrivo, vedo che tutti ballano sulla pista rossa da corsa e che per nessun motivo tu puoi scivolare, ma la gente ci dà dentro a mille ed io con loro. Sento una bella situazione, come una batteria che si ricarica. Dopo un po’ riesco a fare due chiacchiere con King Uprock ed alla mia domanda “posso capire qualche cosa in più del rockin’?” la sua faccia si zittisce e diventa seria. Ecco, queste sono situazioni in cui non vorrei mai trovarmi. Vicino a lui c’è anche Mr Loose ed anche lui mi guarda molto attentamente. Ecco: sono morto, ho fatto la domanda sbagliata. King mi guarda e mi chiede chi e che cosa conosco del rockin’.

Spiego il mio punto di vista e subito dopo lui mi dice: “Ok, fammi vedere quello che sai fare”.

Wow, qui te la devi sudare, ma a me piace così e parto con una mia session di rockin’.

Appena finisco, lui mi guarda ed esclama: “Ti ho chiesto rockin’, non bboyin’!”. Bene, almeno so che cosa sto facendo. Andiamo avanti a parlare e gli chiedo se è possibile passare un giorno con lui, per chiarirmi mille dubbi. Due giorni dopo ci incontriamo ad una fermata della subway a Brooklyn e lui mi accompagna a casa sua, nel Queens, dove mi presenta tutta la sua famiglia. Scesi nel sotto scala, ci accomodiamo sul divano e da lì, per le successive cinque ore, parliamo di ogni cosa possibile e di come è partito tutto.

Incredibile, una grande esperienza, forse la migliore di questo periodo. Ora ho le idee più chiare riguardo al rockin’ e questo mi fa stare meglio. Durante la mia permanenza sono stato a moltissimi eventi e serate nei club. Ricordo lo Step The Game Up, organizzato da Buddha Stretch. Una vera bomba: battle con vari stili e cerchi aperti, dove tutti se la ballano con spirito di condivisione ed un pizzico di sana arroganza, che scalda sempre la situazione.

All’evento ci sono davvero tutti e King arriva con altri rockers di Brooklyn. Risultato: mi sento all’interno di un film.

The writers were painting everywhere with crazy lines and colours, giving more and more energy to the event. That emotion is even stronger if I think about the fact that the 5 Pointz was later destroyed, in order to make space for a commercial area.

One Monday I went practicing at the park to meet Break Easy and to get to know King Uprock as well. As I arrived I saw everyone dancing on the red running track, where you do not slide at all, but everybody was beating hard and I went with them. I felt a good vibe, as if my batteries were charging up.

After a while I got to meet and talk with King Uprock, and so I asked him: “Can I understand more about rockin’?”. All of a sudden his face became serious and he was standing shut… these are those situations I would never wanted to experience, and next to him there was Mr Loose, also looking very carefully as well... Here we are: I am dead, I asked the wrong question.

King looked at me and asked me who and what I know about rockin’. I explained my point of view and then he said: “Let me see what you can do...”.

Wow, here you really have to work hard, but I like it and then I started with a Rockin’ session… After I was done, he looked at me and said “I asked you a Rocking session, not a B-boying session!”.

Ok, now at least I know what I’m doing...

We went on talking and I asked him if it was possible to spend a day together to clear my million doubts.

Two days later he picked me up in a subway station in Brooklyn and brought me to his house in Queens, where I met all his family.

We went down below the stairs and we got comfortable on his couch, and then for five hours we talked about every possible thing and how everything started. Amazing, an incredible experience and maybe the best one of this period. Now my ideas about Rockin’ are clearer and this makes me feel better.

I attended so many events and club nights there in New York. I remember the Step The Game Up, organized by Buddha Stretch: a real blast, different styles battles and open circles where everybody danced with a sharing spirit and some healthy arrogance, which always warms up. Everybody participated to this event, and Kind arrived with other Rockers from Brooklyn: I was feeling part of a movie.

Tra i grandi eventi di quest’anno a cui non sono mancato c’è stato l’anniversario della Rock Steady Crew, con concerti dal vivo e varie performance tra le quali Dj Premier, Pete Rock & CL Smooth e Brand Nubian, oltre allo spettacolo Ghetto Made, il mercoledì successivo. Due grandi appuntamenti, sempre seguiti da grandi after party. Nei club di NY le serate sono sempre uniche e ballare in questi contesti è pura adrenalina: escono sempre mille cerchi e sempre con persone nuove.

Il secondo grande evento è stato sempre a Central Park, per i 40 anni di carriera di Kool Herc. Sono rimasto molto sorpreso da quella giornata, non tanto per super guests come Rakim e Big Daddy Kane, che hanno fatto esplodere la gente da tutte le parti, ma per il semplice fatto che c’erano molte più persone della vecchia scuola che della nuova. Un pensiero negativo l’ho fatto, ovviamente. Ma dico, si parla di uno dei padri fondatori e la gente non è lì a battergli le mani? Devo farvi una confidenza: a NY molte persone parlano di chi c’è stato prima e di chi ha creato questo e quello, quindi è difficile sapere chi ha ragione.

Parlare con tutti aiuta davvero a farsi un’idea.

Sono sempre stato un amante dei battle di scratchin’ e per mia grande fortuna ho assisito alla finale americana del DMC a NY. Un intero pomeriggio ad ascoltare dj, rimanendo sempre a bocca aperta per le loro performance, ammirando nuove tecniche sul fader e dita che spingono sul piatto come se fosse burro fuso. Per di più era il 30° anniversario del DMC. Durante un allenamento, viene da me King Uprock e mi dice che ci tiene ad avermi al suo 25° anniversario di matrimonio.

Imbarazzato ed allo stesso tempo onorato, presenzio alla cerimonia, dove ci sono tutti i rockers storici, ben pettinati, ben vestiti e con figli al seguito. Dopo la cerimonia e la cena, un veloce cambio d’abito e da lì è successo

Among this year’s great events that I missed there was the anniversary of the Rock Steady Crew, with live concerts and different performances: Dj Premier, Pete Rock and CL Smooth, Brand Nubian just to name a few, and the “Ghetto Made” show the following Wednesday. Two great appointments, always followed by great after parties! Club nights are always unique and dancing in those contests is pure adrenaline, there are always a lot of circles and new people to meet.

The second big event I attended was still in Central Park for the 40 years career of Kool Herc. I was really amazed by that event, and not so much for the super guest stars like Rakim and Big Daddy Kane who blew up all the people everywhere, but for the simple fact that there were many more people from the old school than young people.

I had also a negative thought of course… I mean, one of the founding fathers is getting celebrated and you people weren’t there to clap your hands for him? I have to tell you this in NY many people talk about who were there before and created all of this, so you never know who’s wrong or right, but it really helps to talk to everybody in order to have your own idea.

I have always been a fan of scratching battles and luckily that time they were doing the American final of DMC in NY. I spent an entire afternoon listening to deejays playing and always gaping for their performances, seeing new fader techniques and fingers pushing on the plates as if they were melted butter. On top of this it also was the 30th anniversary of this event.

Some other day, during a practice, King Uprock came to me saying that he cared about having me at his 25 years wedding anniversary, and I was embarrassed and honored at the same time. Everybody was attending that ceremony, all the famous Rockers and their children with

di tutto: IT’S ROCKIN’ TIME! Non credo di avere le giuste parole per descrivere quello che è accaduto, questo rimane un momento soltanto mio, che ha dell’incredibile.

Un consiglio? Andate a NY da soli, perché così avrete più stimoli nel conoscere voi stessi e pensare con la vostra testa. Sono ormai vent’anni che vivo in questo ambiente, ho sempre rispettato chi c’era prima e dopo di me e la mia voglia di conoscere non si è ancora fermata. Non abbiate paura di non avere ancora capito bene che cosa voglia dire la parola hip hop.

In questo modo potrete scoprire molte più cose e vedere tutto con altri occhi e non per un fine di vittoria o sconfitta, ma per condivisione, amore e possibilità di valorizzare voi stessi.

I don’t think I have the right words to describe what happened, this is something personal and it just felt incredible.

Just a hint: go to NY by yourselves! Because in this way you will be more encouraged to know yourself and think with your own head.

It’s almost 20 years that I’m living in this surrounding, I have always respected who was here before and who came after me, and still my knowledge hunger haven’t stopped.

Do always keep the doubt of not having understood well what the word hip hop means, you could discover many more things and see everything with different eyes, not for a victory or loss purpose, but for sharing. Love and possibility of value ourselves.

Che 2014 sarà? Domanda di tutti.

Risposta da decifrare. Con il nuovo anno arriva anche il momento di modificare qualcosa all’interno del nostro armadio.

Fortunatamente questa volta la scelta sarà ampia.

Ci aspettano tante piccole varianti sul tema casual-street-wear. Entusiasmo.

Se avremo infatti la conferma di un marchio appena nato, come Cayler & Sons, che sta facendo innamorare il mondo di sé, ci sarà anche un’altra grande riprova da parte di un brand da tanti anni sul mercato: Mitchell & Ness.

Il marchio di Philadelphia infatti ha largamente ampliato la produzione di snapback cap, per la gioia degli amanti.

Inoltre, bellissime news anche per l’apparel: tank, t-shirt, felpe, college jacket delle squadre delle leghe NBA, NFL, NHL ed MLB. Da vedere. Meritano citazione anche gli italianissimi Classic, Cee-El e Bad Boy, che si stanno facendo largo per idee e qualità, ma anche gli stranieri State Property, City Hunter e Bol, che hanno dato molta importanza al leopardato: snapback cap e beanie con visiera o particolari animaleschi, così come richiesto al momento.

Gustose novità giungono invece da marchi di nuova uscita per quanto riguarda l’Italia. Vi consiglio infatti di cercare capi firmati Brooklyn Haze o Sugarpills. Troverete quanto di più in voga al momento per la parte top: t-shirt e felpe all-over, ovvero con grafica a tutto capo, particolarissimi, molto spinti, spesso di concetto, altrettante volte invece recanti immagini vintage o addirittura di carattere sarcastico-religioso.

I prezzi rimangono buoni, sia per la tipologia di capi che per la qualità.

La parte bottom invece va quasi a ricalcare il settore accessories: ritorno di brand da anni sul mercato a farsi notare per la bellezza dei capi.

What about this 2014? Everybody is asking that. Guess an answer.

A new year is coming and it’s time to change something inside our wardrobe.

Luckily this time the choice will be wider than before. New variants from the “casual street wear” theme are coming.

We are excited.

On one side we are going to have a confirmation of a just born brand like Cayler & Sons which is persuading the world right now.

On the other we are going to have another support from a popular brand which is from a lot of years working in this field: Mitchell & Ness.

The brand from Philadelphia has enlarged the production of snackback caps for the lovers happiness, then we also have news for the apparel: tanks, t-shirts, college jackets from famous teams: NBA, NFL, NHL ed MLB. You must see them. We have also to mention Italian brands, such as Cee-El and Bad Boy, which are enlarging their business for their ideas and quality.

We also have the foreigners State Property, City Hunter and Bol that made the “spotted frog” very important. Snapback caps and beanie along with a shade or with animalistic circumstantiality, depending on the style of the moment.

Talking about Italy, other news are coming from new brands.

I have to advice you to look for designer labels, for example Brooklyn Haze and Sugarpills. Right now they are more requested for the top part: t-shirts and jackets all over, very particular, usually with a rough concept drawn all over the material and sometimes along with vintage image or even sarcastic topics.

They are good value for money, type and quality are good too.

Per le scarpe rimarranno in voga quelle in stile mid-high, perfettamente in linea col tipo di pant di cui sopra. Tanti modelli Supra, ma anche Osiris, che accontenteranno queste caratteristiche.

Adidas and Globe have produced jeans and pants following the time that has been changing for years: skinny line with the medium-low crotch and a huge waist which permits you to wear it in a particular way.

That’s kind of an evolution regarding the way of wearing by the public, which is always increasing if compared to the one that I identified as “casualstreet-wear”. Talking about shoes, the “mid high” style is always fashion, perfect shape with the model of pants mentioned above.

A lot of models here above, but Osiris satisfying either as well. What about this 2014?
