ABOUT THE COVER
THEGreater Omaha Chamber and Premier Bank are ready to honor businesses that contribute to our community's enrichment, across categories such as leadership, innovation, and philanthropy. Their dedication ensures Greater Omaha flourishes as a more vibrant place to live, work and enjoy.
In 2024, bolstering the resilience of local businesses depends on conscientious consumer choices. This involves shifting focus from mere convenience and low prices to safeguarding the long-term sustainability and vitality of our community.
These businesses must adapt to changing consumer preferences by embracing e- commerce and online marketing strategies to expand their reach. Collaborating with other small businesses and community organizations allows for shared resources and greater impact.
As businesses strive for resilience, they must prioritize sustainability and social responsibility. Recognizing that success encompasses more than profit, they must make positive contributions to communities and the world at large.
A special thanks to our Host Sponsor, All Makes, for hosting this year’s event.
Strictly Business is proud to be the Media Sponsor of the Greater Omaha Chamber’s 2024 Business Excellence Awards.
LEADERSHIP
A vision of the future, growing an organization and developing employees; are the hallmarks of catalytic leaders. The same qualities that help set organizations with dynamic leadership above others. Clarity and demonstration of purpose in all the practices and policies. An outcome that is representative of the values at the core of the business. These are not platitudes but the cornerstones of leadership philosophies that define excellence and inspire it from all who engage the organization.
INNOVATION
Innovation is about challenging the status quo, striving for improvement in efficacy and efficiency. Those who excel in this arena understand that "that's how we've always done it" is the most challenging phrase in business. The honorees in this category are the ones who change the establishment, shift paradigms and buck old trends. They possess the vision to see and seize opportunities, constantly finding new ways to do things. Innovation isn't just a sporadic occurrence for our winners; it's ingrained in their everyday routine.
PHILANTHROPY
Serving others is deeply ingrained in our Midwestern ethos. By helping the community, we understand that we help ourselves, and that a rising tide lifts us all. Organizations with a culture of giving help advance Omaha’s overall health and well-being. Those that prioritize paying back and empowering others understand that we’re measured by a bottom line of caring and support. The improvement of our community rests on all of our shoulders, and those who demonstrate excellence in philanthropy carry that burden willingly, proudly and ably.
MILESTONES
Experience comes with time, and every year an organization operates is a testament to its ability to serve, allowing it to uplift the community and contribute to the strength and growth of the region. Milestones matter, and anniversaries mark the dedication of organizational stakeholders, as well as the commitment of customers to the business or nonprofit.

“Working Fires: Volunteer Fire Departments in Crisis” received an award for television small market in the news documentary category.
The Nebraska Public Media news documentary explores recruiting and retaining volunteer firefighters in more than 450 Nebraska communities. The Radio Television Digital News Association has been honoring outstanding achievements in electronic journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971. Award recipients demonstrate the spirit of excellence that Murrow set as a standard for the profession of electronic journalism.

BBB Works to Support Businesses and Consumers with Disaster Relief “Building Back Better: BBB’s Guide to Safeguarding
Businesses After the Storm”
In the wake of recent tornadoes ravaging Nebraska and Iowa, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) reasserts its commitment to supporting businesses and consumers through the tumultuous aftermath of natural disasters.
Tornadoes serve as harrowing reminders of nature’s unpredictable force, highlighting the imperative for structured recovery efforts. Recognizing the profound impact on businesses, families and communities, BBB’s Natural Disaster HQ emerges as a beacon of assistance, offering tailored resources to navigate the complex landscape of postdisaster recovery.
Central to resilience is preparedness. BBB underscores the importance of proactive planning, advocating for the creation of emergency kits and staying informed about local hazards. Yet, even the most meticulous plans can falter in the face of catastrophe. BBB advises cautious decisionmaking, particularly regarding safety and temporary repairs to mitigate further damage.
Amidst the chaos, securing reputable contractors for restoration work poses a significant challenge. BBB warns against deceptive ‘storm chasers’ and urges consumers to vet contractors rigorously through trusted platforms like BBB.org. By prioritizing transparency and accountability in contractual agreements, consumers can shield themselves from scams and inferior craftsmanship.
Critical to consumer protection is contractual vigilance. BBB advocates for meticulous review of all documentation, clear delineation of project scope and costs and adherence to proper payment protocols to avert disputes and ensure satisfactory outcomes. Additionally, consumers are encouraged to report fraudulent activities through BBB’s Scam Tracker platform, bolstering community resilience against exploitation.
BBB Accreditation emerges as a pivotal safeguard, providing consumers with reliable resources and advocacy amidst the chaos of post-disaster recovery. Through steadfast support, guidance in contractor selection and advocacy against scams, BBB empowers consumers to navigate the challenges of recovery with resilience and confidence. In times of crisis, BBB remains a trusted ally, facilitating effective recovery efforts and fostering community resilience in the face of adversity.

Omaha Fashion Week Announces Designer Lineup for August 2024 VERUS Season
Omaha Fashion Week (OFW) is lifting the veil to reveal the fall 2024 VERUS Season. This season's designers, designers of all ages, draw inspiration from the natural world, exploring themes of community and cultural heritage.
Omaha Fashion Week will be showcasing 16 Emerging Designers, 14 Featured Designers and six Headlining Designers, including four of the Golden Shears award winners from previous seasons. OFW is also proud to welcome back and showcase the teen campers from Omaha Fashion Camp’s summer 2024 sessions.
The designers’ inspirations manifest through streetwear, bridal gowns, eveningwear, avant garde and wearable art! Global influence will be present over the collection’s aesthetics, from Scotland to Spain, Ecuador to Ethiopia, Italy, Japan and London.
OFW will have 21 designers returning to the runways, with 15 designers who are brand new to the show. This group is from all over the US, including local Nebraskans; neighbors in Iowa, Kansas and Missouri and even more from California, Colorado, New York and Wisconsin.
Emerging Designers are either brand new to the OFW runway, student designers or veteran designers trying out a new method of creation. Each show will close with collections by Featured Designers, experts at their craft, who will showcase high-quality, ready-to-buy looks.
OFW Spring showcases are scheduled for August 22-24th at Omaha Design Center. Tickets are now available for the public at omahafashionweek. ticketleap.com. For more information, please visit omahafashionweek.com.
Flicker Promotions Celebrates Eight Years, Grows Team and Client Service Offerings
Flicker Promotions, a concierge-style promotional product company, celebrated eight years in business on April 1. Founder and CEO Amy Doele started Flicker in Lincoln after already having many years in the industry under her belt. Amy’s main goal has been to offer the best customer service possible and make the promo-finding process personalized and enjoyable for everyone involved.
Today, Flicker still offices out of Lincoln but has boots on the ground in Omaha and surrounding areas, as well as clients in nearly 40 states. Within the last eight years, Flicker has experienced exciting growth, such as undergoing a total rebrand in 2022! This growth also includes hiring the company’s first employee two years ago with the appointment of Emily Hancock as Business Manager, and then a year later bringing on Hannah Hundley as an Account Executive. The small-but-mighty team of three enjoys strategizing new ways to continue improving operations and growing their client base.
In addition to new faces at Flicker, the promo provider also recently integrated a new interface that has completely enhanced client communication, the quoting and ordering process and internal management.
Brands come to Flicker Promotions because they want to stand out, and they want to eliminate the guesswork of finding the best swag for their business. First Interstate Bank Selected by the Greater OmahaChambertoReceiveBusinessExcellence Award in Philanthropy
First Interstate Bank is pleased to announce their selection by the Greater Omaha Chamber as a recipient of the Business Excellence Award in Philanthropy. Through this award, First Interstate is recognized among the “best-of-the-best” whose contributions elevate Greater Omaha and make it a better place to do business, work and live. Award winners will be announced publicly via a Greater Omaha Chamber press release. Awards will be presented at the Business Excellence Awards on Thursday, June 13 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at All Makes.
The Business Excellence Award in Philanthropy celebrates First Interstate for its philosophy of giving, making a significant impact on the Omaha metropolitan community’s health and well-being through above-andbeyond support to foster an environment of community improvement.
Each year, the Bank earmarks approximately 2% of pre-tax earnings to fund the First Interstate BancSystem Foundation, their philanthropic arm. The Foundation provides the communities they serve with resources and leadership through avenues like awarding grants, providing financial education and matching donations by their employees. First Interstate also pays nonprofits for the hours their employees volunteer in service to them, furthering their impact. The Foundation relies on people in their branches to identify community urgencies, so funding and support are directed to the areas of greatest need.
In Omaha, First Interstate participates in and supports the Child Saving Institute, Completely Kids, Project Intentional, Heartland Mission, Habitat for Humanity Omaha, Pay it Forward, Make-A-Wish Nebraska, and many others. Finally, they are supporting Elkhorn Athletic Association ball fields, to be known as First Interstate Bank SportsPlex, serving more than 8,000 youth in west and northwest Omaha.
First Interstate is a community bank, dedicated to making the Greater Omaha area the best it can be. They do this by living their mission of “helping people and their money work better together” and adhering closely to five core values (People First, Always; Seek Greatness; Integrity; Celebrate Success; and Commitment to Community). They are “all-in” in giving back to the Omaha community with time, money, and heart, and they continuously invest in product, service, and operational improvements to meet the evolving needs of their clients and communities. Jared Widseth
MILAN LASER HAIR REMOVAL
Meet Jared Widseth,
General Counsel
and Corporate Secretary at Milan Laser Hair Removal
Tell us a little about your business. - My business is helping Milan make risk and reward intelligent decisions via understanding a complex regulatory landscape.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? - I am still proud of passing the North Carolina bar almost 10 years later. The weight of your entire career seems to hinge on that one test.
Tell us a little about your family. - Gabriel and George, my threeyear-old and one-year-old are my entire world. I would not want to do any of this without my incredible spouse, Grace.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - I crave Husker Football Saturdays. Those seven Saturdays per year with home football games are the best days of the year. The games are obviously electric, but the time to hang out with friends, family, and the community are equally treasured. As I write this, there are 109 days until Husker Football season… But who’s counting?
If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? - Generous.
If you could have a super power, what would it be? - Stopping time would be amazing. I would work in the paused time and use all of the active time to spend more time with friends and family.
What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? - Music. Singing, playing guitar. Pretty fun, but not useful to my day job.
Which talent would you most like to have? - I want to spend more time getting proficient at piano.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? - I just finished Scott Galloway’s The Algebra of Wealth and loved it. I like thinking about career success and wealth as a means to an end to live an enriched life with your loved ones. Money is not the end or the goal. It is the means to an end – to be wealthy is not to be a billionaire. It’s to be able to have a lifestyle that enables you spend time with and care for your loved ones.
What is your favorite movie? - The Big Lebowski.
What is your favorite local Omaha restaurant? - Au Courant, but also Ota – it is just so hard to get in!
If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? - Anthony Bourdain.
If our readers would like to contact you, how should they do so? - Please feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn.

West Gate Bank is a full-service bank, so whether you need a checking/savings account, commercial loan, mortgage loan or anything in between, we are here for you!
How did you get started in the business? - I started at a local bank as a part time teller while attending some classes and quickly gained a passion for helping people. I was lucky to have a boss who invested time into me and teach me all about banking, products and customer service. I have been blessed with wonderful peers who helped me along the way and continue to be surrounded by wonderful people here at West Gate Bank.
What has been your most important achievement professionally? - Learning more about what it is to lead and helping my team step into their roles. As the newest branch and location, we have had wonderful opportunities to grow, deliver excellent client experiences and hit our goals. Seeing my team get excited and have success is an amazing feat!
Tell us a little about your family. - There is nothing more important than my family. This year, my wife and I will be celebrating our seven-year anniversary. We have been blessed with two beautiful children and another on the way. We’re excited even though we will soon be outnumbered!
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - Spending time doing fun activities with my wife and kids. We enjoy playing in the yard, making fun crafts and of course going to the zoo!
Who inspires you? - I am constantly inspired by my beautiful wife, who challenges me to be better every day. She’s honest, kind and chooses the right no matter the situation. I have also been lucky enough to have wonderful parents who have been an example of hard work and serving others.
What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? - My Track and Field coach once asked me to look in the mirror daily and ask myself, “Did you get better today?” This has been a consistent driving force in all aspects of my life to constantly be honest and achieve more every day.
If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? - Reliable.
What is your favorite movie? - Tommy Boy.
What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? - Bags of Fun Omaha (bagsoffunomaha.org) is an organization that is dedicated to delivering relief and joy to children fighting a long term or life-threatening condition. I have been able to take part in filling a “Bag of Fun” on multiple occasions. It is an amazing experience. They take the time to learn all about these children and deliver a bag that is unique to them.

Greisen REVIVAL PHARMS
Meet Dr. Jeanne Greisen, RPh, PharmD at Revival Pharms
Tell us a little about your business. - Revival Pharms is a natural health company committed to the revival of health. Specializing in the cultivation and formulation of locally sourced hemp products in Nebraska, our focus lies in providing medicinal and personal care solutions that foster holistic well-being. As a pharmacist, providing education and consultation on the benefits of hemp, natural substitutes for conventional pharmaceuticals and the significance of hormone balance is the spark that ignites many on their health journey.
With an unwavering dedication to accessibility, Revival Pharms extends its services and product offerings across Nebraska and beyond through an online platform. This approach ensures that individuals throughout the region can readily avail themselves of our expertise and merchandise, facilitating their journey towards enhanced health and vitality.
How did you get started in the business? - The idea of being a hemp grower was on our mind for a year before Revival Pharms came to be. When job changes occurred in 2021, the opportunity of Revival Pharms came to be reality when we had our first successful grow season. After three years of researching and getting consecutive growing seasons under our belt, Revival Pharms continues to move forward in the hemp space educating and providing quality products.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? - The biggest hurdle we have faced is overcoming the negative connotation associated with cannabis. A lot of people associate cannabis with marijuana and the propaganda that has been fed to the population for decades. While hemp is also cannabis, it has many medicinal properties but will not cause a “high”. Western medicine is closed-minded to how hemp can help patients heal naturally. However, education is the key and there is plenty of research to support the benefits of hemp without causing patient harm. With the DEA considering a reclassification of cannabis to a schedule III recently, we will more than likely see an acceptance of hemp as a legitimate natural alternative in the near future.
What has been your most important achievement professionally?
- What I consider the most important professional achievement is to critically think for myself and do my own research. It wasn’t until Revival Pharms came to be that the information I took in was presented by recognized organization and I took as fact. Unfortunately, in the medical field there can be many biases to show desired outcomes whether they are accurate or not. By doing my own research, I am able to gather legitimate data that may not have not have been published in wellknown journals, scour different search engines, and use critical thinking to evaluate the information being presented. This allows our clients and customers to get the real information.
What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life?
- The biggest turning point in my life was in 2020. My vision became much clearer about the meaning of life, what is important in life and what I could do to make this world a better place. It was at this time that I realized that we only have but one life to live and each day is a gift to make a difference.
What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? - Nebraskans for Founder Values- I am involved with them because I love what our Founding Father’s stood for and that they were willing to lose everything for their freedom and this country.

JENELLE
Jenelle Miller OPEN DOOR MISSION
Meet Jenelle Miller, LIMHP, ATR, Senior Director of Programs at Open Door Mission.
Tell us a little about your business. - The Open Door Mission (ODM) is a Gospel Rescue Mission established in 1954 dedicated to helping folks break the cycle of homelessness and poverty. We have the capacity to house 917 people and plan to break ground this year to add additional buildings. Our campus spans a six-block radius by Eppley Airfield in Omaha. We provide emergency and transitional housing to men, women and children as well as outreach and prevention services to the community.
How did you get started in the business? - I have been volunteering at ODM with my family for 15 years. When I was finishing my master’s degree in art therapy in 2019, Candace, CEO/President of ODM, called me and asked if I would be interested in helping them establish an art therapy studio and working as the Lydia House mental health therapist. I accepted the offer and began full-time in April 2020 when the pandemic hit. Due to the shortage of volunteers, I started as family support helping to check women and families into the Lydia House. After a few months the leadership saw the devastating mental health impacts of the pandemic on the guests that lived on campus. That was when we established the art studio and I began working as the Lydia House therapist. I am a Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner (LIMHP) with the state of Nebraska and a Registered Art Therapist (ATR). A couple years later I moved into the position of Director of Mental and Behavioral Health where we expanded the team from two people to six people. In 2024 my role morphed again into what it is now Senior Director of Programs where I oversee all the housing on campus, the mental and behavioral health department and the education department.
Tell us a little about your family. - In December 2024 my husband, Noah, and I will be celebrating three years of marriage. We have one Labradoodle named Bluebonnet “Bonnie” Miller who is full of affection and playfulness. Also, we are expecting our first baby at the end of this year!
What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? - The greatest turning point in my life was when I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior at 21 years old. Letting go of my old, self-focused life and turning to a life that follows Jesus has created a true freedom that has brought me an indescribable amount of joy and peace. It all started with whispering “Jesus, I don’t know what else to do. I need you.” From then on, everything from my mind, my heart, my relationships, my desires, my attitude, my focus, it all changed for the better and I owe it all to Jesus.
What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? - My greatest talent I don’t utilize at work is my artistic ability. I went to college and learned fine art skills, but I do get to use them at home in my free time which is definitely therapeutic. I do get to be very creative in my daily work life in strategic and systematic ways, which I find equally if not more fulfilling.
What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? - Open Door Mission is my first passion and commitment, but in addition to serving ODM full-time, I volunteer on the board of No Shame Ministries. I volunteer with No Shame because they are working to provide community-based support systems to folks seeking mental wellness across the metro area.

Unrestricted Endowments Are Preparing Greater
Nebraska For The Future
An unrestricted endowment is one of the best tools to prepare a Greater Nebraska hometown for whatever lies beyond the horizon. Consider it like a retirement account that generates investment income for a community year after year. That “unrestricted” part is key—it means it isn’t designated for any specific use or project, making it a source of funding for whatever dreams residents can imagine. Because the principal remains untouched, it grows with every gift—and so does the annual payout. The volunteers overseeing an unrestricted endowment account (known as a fund advisory committee in the NCF network) have the freedom to spend the funds in ways that they determine will fulfill its mission. That flexibility allows hometowns to maximize their community-building efforts.
Unrestricted endowments held by NCF community-based affiliated funds (CBAFs) now total $67 million, double the total five years ago. Today, 50 CBAFs have payout of at least $10,000 per year—a milestone at which affiliated funds can really be catalysts for growth. Sixteen CBAFs now have payout of at least $50,000 per year. Throughout the NCF network, affiliated funds use their payout for a variety of purposes, whether it’s starting something new, saving something important or adapting to the future—often all the above.
Furthermore, Nebraska has reached an opportune moment in time to build unrestricted endowments. Nebraska Community Foundation’s 2021 Transfer of Wealth Study, an update of similar studies in 2001 and 2011, found that $950 billion will change hands between generations through the next 50 years. In just a decade, the number is still staggering—$100 billion. If Nebraskans allotted in their estate plans even 5% of that $100 billion for their hometowns, it would mean $5 billion reinvested in Greater Nebraska.
That’s the impetus behind the Five to Thrive campaign. An unrestricted endowment is an ideal home for that 5%, as it will remain in a community for years to come and help generate ever-increasing annual earnings. Learn more at fivetothrivene.org.

Do Space proudly announces the Filament Recycling Collaborative, an initiative to advance sustainable practices in 3D printing. This effort brings together organizations dedicated to reducing waste by recycling scrap filament (plastic thread-like material that is used for 3D printing) and transforming it into usable material for future projects.
This group represents a collective effort between Do Space and partners, including Metropolitan Community College (MCC), Nebraska Innovation Studio, Made New Makerspace, Omaha Maker Group, Makeshift and Kiewit Luminarium. By joining forces, these organizations pool their resources and experience to address the environmental challenges associated with filament waste in the 3D printing process.
Central to the group’s mission is recycling scrap filament and addressing the issue of plastic pollution, as highlighted by Olivia Lai in an article on Earth.org. Lai explains the need for action, "Plastic use and consumption have driven the world to generate approximately 400 million tons of plastic waste each year to keep up with demand, 60% of which ends up in our natural environment or landfills.” Through this group, the partners are consolidating their scrap filament and sending it to a specialized recycling facility that will repurpose it into high-quality filament suitable for future printing projects.
Do Space and Kiewit Luminarium led the charge by contributing a combined total of 20 pounds of filament to kickstart the recycling process. The shipment exemplifies the group's commitment to proactive environmental stewardship and sets a precedent moving forward. Through ongoing efforts, the group aims to expand its reach, engage additional partners and further promote sustainable practices in Nebraska. For any organization interested in joining the cause, feel free to reach out to Michael Sauers at msauers@dospace.org.

With each passing year in your life, prioritizing health becomes increasingly necessary and important. As you journey into your golden years, it's imperative to embrace mindfulness and healthy habits to ensure longevity and the best possible quality of life.
The following businesses are here to help you on your journey toward senior wellness. Don’t just add years to life but life to years!
Brookstone Meadows is unique among senior care facilities because of their focus on discharge and commitment to the same. Their advice for routines for seniors comes from Therapy Program Manager, Jill Churchill, OTR/L.
She says, “Developing a good daily routine of physical activity. This is so important to keep you independent with your self cares and reduce risk of falls later on in life. Exercise helps decrease anxiety, improves sleep and can reduce the risk of heart disease. Moving your body daily is a great habit that will make you feel good now and has long-term positive benefits.”
Brookestone Meadows’ approach to rehabilitation is meticulously designed to guarantee the long-term success and well-being of its patients, extending far beyond their stay at the facility. The team at Brookestone Meadows recognizes that the ultimate goal is not only to provide excellent care during the patient’s time with them but also to equip individuals with the tools, support and resources necessary for a successful and sustainable life once they leave the facility. The comprehensive discharge planning ensures that individuals are well-prepared for the next phase of their journey, offering peace of mind to both patients and their families.
In the senior care industry, another pressing challenge revolves around the escalating demand for senior care services. This surge in demand is further exacerbated by a shortage of caregivers, a situation that significantly impacts the overall cost of care. Consequently, seniors are facing the daunting task of locating suitable care options that align with their financial constraints. With Summer 2024 right around the corner, many families and seniors are figuring out what the next steps are, taking cost, quality of care and the time they’ll be able to spend together into consideration.
See The Trainer recognizes the increased likelihood of unexpected injuries as individuals age and the subsequent need for effective rehabilitation to resume normal daily activities.
For seniors aspiring to maintain an active lifestyle and prevent or mitigate injuries, See The Trainer offers a diverse range of sports medicine products designed to protect against aggravating previous injuries or vulnerable body areas. In situations requiring surgery, See The Trainer extends its support through the rehabilitation phase. Owner Kristie Egan emphasizes their commitment to
aiding those undergoing post-surgery or injury recovery by offering a variety of helpful products like canes, sock aids, bathroom accessories and more.
“We understand the challenge of having to adjust your daily routine for weeks or months due to something unexpected. Our products can help you through your recovery, minimizing disruptions caused by health setbacks and ensuring everything heals properly so that you can get back to your pre-injury routine,” explained Kristie.
See The Trainer has been the premier provider of soft goods, rehabilitation and bracing products in the region since 1996. Their dedicated team takes pride in educating patients about their injuries and matching them with the most suitable products tailored to their specific needs.
Another facet of keeping seniors happy and healthy involves addressing the escalating demand for senior care services. This surge in demand, coupled with a scarcity of caregivers, significantly impacts the cost and availability of quality care options. Seniors and families are navigating complex decisions, considering factors like cost, care quality and the time they can spend together while seeking suitable care solutions.
