Embracing the Fall Season and Supporting Our Local Economy
Dear Readers,
As the vibrant colors of autumn begin to paint our landscape, the air turns crisp, and football games fill our weekends, it’s clear that fall has arrived. This season brings with it a sense of renewal and a chance to reflect on the year as it winds down. While we enjoy the beauty and traditions of fall, it’s also an opportune time to focus on something equally important—supporting our local economy.
Local businesses are the heartbeat of our community, much like the changing leaves and cooler weather are the heartbeat of fall. These businesses, and the hardworking people behind them, are what make our community unique and strong. They provide the goods, services, and experiences that enrich our daily lives, and they do so with a level of care and dedication that reflects their deep ties to our community.
As we embrace the changes that fall brings, I encourage you to join me in rallying around our local businesses. Whether it’s your favorite coffee shop, the family-owned hardware store, or the local boutique, these establishments rely on our patronage now more than ever. By choosing to shop, dine, and invest locally, we’re not just supporting businesses—we’re supporting the people who work tirelessly to keep our community vibrant.
The impact of our collective efforts is significant. Every purchase we make, every service we hire, and every meal we enjoy at a local establishment helps sustain jobs, foster economic growth, and keep our community thriving. The employees who greet us with a smile, remember our orders, and go the extra mile to meet our needs are the backbone of these businesses. They are our neighbors, our friends, and our family members.
At Strictly Business Magazine, we are committed to celebrating and promoting the incredible work being done by local businesses and their employees. Our mission is to spotlight the stories that make our community special and to encourage others to support the local economy.
As we enjoy the beauty of the fall season, let’s also make it a time of action and support. Together, we can ensure that our local businesses continue to flourish, providing us with the goods, services, and connections that enrich our lives.
Thank you for being a part of this effort. Your support makes a difference—one local business at a time.
Warm regards,
Paige Zutavern President

In 2007, Strictly Business Omaha was launched, expanding upon the successful legacy of Strictly Business Lincoln, which began over 00 years earlier. This September, we proudly celebrate the 17th anniversary of our Omaha edition! Each year, as we mail over 15,000 copies to businesses throughout the Omaha area, we are honored to be your trusted source for local business news and updates.
Our journey has been marked by both triumphs and challenges, all of which have contributed to reaching this significant milestone. As we commemorate our anniversary this month, we are excited to showcase not only the achievements we've made but also the many remarkable developments happening both behind the scenes and on the forefront. Every day, our team strives to deliver exceptional advertising and compelling stories to keep you informed and engaged with your local business community.
Strictly Business began in the 1990s, when Shayne and Paige identified a need for a dedicated business publication in the local market. Their vision led to the creation of "Strictly Business – Lincoln’s Business News & Marketing Magazine," which received an enthusiastic response. The success in Lincoln set the stage for our expansion into Omaha. With the invaluable support of Angela Diaz, who helped forge crucial connections, Strictly Business Omaha was successfully launched.
We extend our deepest gratitude to our clients, whose support each month makes the publication of this magazine possible. It’s truly remarkable to see many of our clients have
been with us for over a decade; your continued partnership is deeply appreciated.
We also want to express our heartfelt thanks to all the employees, both past and present, who have been part of the Strictly Business family. Your dedication, hard work, and passion have been the driving force behind our success. Whether you were here at the beginning or joined us along the way, each of you has played a vital role in shaping the company we are today. We are immensely grateful for your contributions and are proud to have had you as part of our journey.
Additionally, we’re proud of the strong online presence we’ve built over the years. Through our website, and social media platforms, we have extended our reach far beyond print, ensuring that our readers have easy access to the latest local business news whenever and wherever they need it. This digital expansion allows us to engage with our community more effectively, keeping you informed in today’s fast-paced world.
As we look back on our past issues and forward to the future, we remain grateful for the trust you place in us to be your local business news source. Thank you to our clients, readers, and everyone involved in bringing this magazine to life each month!

RapidScale is Here for Your IT Needs
On Friday, July 19, banks, airlines, hospitals, retail chains, law enforcement agencies and government offices around the world woke up to the blue screen of death. The CrowdStrike outage impacted various facets of technology and transportation, including subways, airports and even Times Square billboards.
RapidScale (a Cox Business company) was prepared for an event like this. With an escalation plan in place, their experts were up in the early hours of Friday morning, working together to put out the fires.
RapidScale’s experts went into each of their affected client’s servers individually to manually update the code. Each server took about five minutes to recover, and with dozens of experts on deck, RapidScale was able to resolve 60 servers every five minutes.
That’s the benefit of having a legion of IT experts by your side that operates like a well-oiled machine – even in the chaos and calamity of a major global outage, when there’s no way to mass-deploy or automate a solution and each server has to be fixed individually. That’s the power of having an expert team with a plethora of resources dedicated to helping organizations during a critical event.
The result? All of RapidScale’s customers’ issues were resolved by Friday night.
RapidScale is owned by Cox Business, the commercial division of Cox Communications. Cox is the foundation of RapidScale’s continued investment in an expanding portfolio of solutions that will simplify IT, so businesses can unleash innovation. Learn more at rapidscale. net or through cox.com.

Ebony 2 Ivory Beauty Supplies, LLC was pleased to announce the grand opening of its second beauty store at 7418 North 30th Street with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, August 2.
Ebony 2 Ivory Beauty Supplies’ Founder, Tammy Bitting, began her entrepreneurship journey by starting a cleaning service while working full-time at the federal courthouse. Building on this success, she’s now looking to expand her business by opening a second store.
"Tammy's story is a testament to resilience and determination, and we are proud to support her as she expands her business,” said Karine Sokpoh, Founder and CEO of the Midlands African Chamber.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony featured remarks from Tammy Bitting, Karine Sokpoh and other notable community leaders.
"We are excited to open our doors in Omaha and continue to serve the community with top-notch beauty supplies," said Tammy Bitting prior to the ribbon cutting. "Our goal is to create a welcoming space where everyone can find products that cater to their individual beauty needs."

Tower Crane Lifted at Mutual of Omaha Construction Site
There has been a surge of activity on the construction site of Mutual of Omaha’s future headquarters in downtown Omaha, as the project’s giant tower crane has been lifted higher to accommodate continued vertical progress on the future skyscraper.
For the building’s core to keep climbing, four additional tower sections had to be added to the crane. In preparation for the crane height increase, embeds were placed in the exterior core wall for the tower crane to attach for additional stability.
Mutual of Omaha’s headquarters construction project remains on track. The concrete shear core walls have been poured through Level 17, and crews are working on Levels 8 and 9 of the concrete podium floors.
This puts the skyscraper’s core at the level of the “sky lobby” that will welcome Mutual of Omaha employees from the parking facility. The multi-level concept on floors 16-20 will feature food services with diverse culinary offerings, a fitness center, employee wellness services, concierge technical support services and flexible conference and meeting spaces. The sky lobby floors will also feature landscaped outdoor terraces with sweeping views and outdoor dining, meeting and fitness spaces for Mutual of Omaha employees.
Mutual of Omaha is a Fortune 500 organization, offering a variety of insurance and financial products for individuals, businesses and groups throughout the United States. For more information, visit mutualofomaha.com.

The Fowling Warehouse is Officially Open in Omaha
If you’re tired of going bowling with your friends and want to do something new and exciting, look no further than the recently invented “Fowling”, which rhymes with bowling. Like bowling, the objective of the game is to knock all ten pins down in as little attempts as possible. However, what sets it apart from bowling is its method of knocking the pins down. This game combines two of Nebraska favorite past times, football and bowling. That’s correct, instead of knocking all the pins down with a larger bowling ball, a football is used. Simply throw the football at the pins and try to knock them down in as little throws as possible.
If it sounds like this game was invented by young boys when they were bored, you’d be right! This game was invented in 2001 by a man and his friends while tailgating at the Indy 500. When a bowling ball didn’t really work for the rough gravel of the tailgating pavement, they tried footballs, which worked wonderfully.
The new location was opened by two Omahans, Mark Wolf and Dan Fishburn, and offers 30 lanes and two full-service bars. It’s the ninth Fowling Warehouse in the country. They recently celebrated their opening with an open house and are now officially open for business. Learn more about fowling at fowlingwarehouse.com.

The Greater Omaha Chamber announced it is partnering with the Nebraska Department of Veterans’ Affairs (NDVA) to create the “Nebraska Resource Center.”
Veterans’Affairs
The Nebraska Resource Center’s goal will be to connect military members, veterans and their families with veteran benefits and services, employment and career opportunities in the state, as well as other resources to support them while in Nebraska.
“We want everyone who comes here through Offutt to make Nebraska their home during and after their service to our nation,” said Randy Norwood, assistant vice president of military affairs and strategic partnership for the Greater Omaha Chamber.
The Nebraska Resource Center will be staffed with an accredited veteran service officer (VSO). The VSO will be able to provide resources on employment opportunities, details on occupational licensure and tax reforms in the state, ideas for recreational and leisure activities throughout Nebraska and much more.
“We want this to be the type of place you can go to get any question answered, whether you want to know how to file a claim for tinnitus or where to find the nearest fishing hole,” said NDVA Director John Hilgert. “While our service members may not choose where they get stationed, we want them to choose Nebraska when they leave the service.”
The Greater Omaha Chamber is honored to connect with military partners as part of its coordinated economic development efforts.
“This partnership allows our community to serve those who have served us. Not only are we proud of the important national security work being done at Offutt, but the base is also the largest employer in our area as well,” said Heath Mello, president and CEO of the Greater Omaha Chamber.
Omaha Opens its First Women’s Sports Bar
This winter, Omaha’s first official women’s sport bar is opening. Called SET the Bar, this new bar will highlight women’s sports and is located near 62nd and Maple St. The Omaha location will be the seventh women’s sports bar in the country and the first location open in Nebraska. Everyone is welcome at the bar, as long as they want to watch women’s sports! Co-Owner Molly Huyck noticed it was almost impossible to find women’s sports playing on a TV in bars and after going to a women’s sports bar in Seattle WA, she felt inspired.
The bar will serve a variety of craft cocktails as well as non-alcoholic drinks, with their menu also full of delicious food. Molly and her business partner, Amy Hannesson, want people to feel relax as soon as they walk into the bar. They want the atmosphere to feel like a watch party on your friends’ patio. SET the Bar will have additional women’s restrooms and a lower, curved bar counter to accommodate women.
Omaha is the perfect location to celebrate women’s sports. Nebraska has just broken the record for most attended women’s sporting match, so let’s celebrate that with the newest women’s sports bar in downtown Omaha! Learn more at set-thebar.com.

Who inspires you? - My parents definitely inspire me. My mother taught special education her whole career and seeing her compassion and passion for making sure every single student was getting the education they deserved set the tone for how I wanted to empower the individuals I serve. I also am inspired by my father for a multitude of reasons for the father, husband and grandfather he is. If I can know/ understand a quarter of the things he knows there isn’t much I won't be prepared for or able to do.
What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? - “People can either be a fountain or a drain, make sure that you are always a fountain for every person you meet”- This was from a coworker/ mentor I worked with and she was an incredible person that went above and beyond to build and foster relationships with everyone she met.

DAN
Dan Wenzl NORTH RISK PARTNERS
Meet Dan Wenzl, a Risk Advisor at North Risk Partners.
Tell us a little about your business. - At North Risk Partners, we help our clients with all their Risk Management and Insurance needs by finding customized solutions that fit each client’s individual business. As insurance professionals we are in the relationship business. We look forward to understanding our client’s business and developing a professional relationship to provide the best possible risk and insurance solutions.
How did you get started in the business? - My dad was a State Farm agent so working in insurance was a natural fit for me. Interviewing out of college, I found the opportunities for growth and career path came from the insurance industry. Most people do not think of insurance as a possible career, but the industry has been good to me.
I love being part of an industry that helps clients enhance their businesses by offering quality products and services, thereby assisting clients in minimizing their financial risks during times of need. My experiences working as a claims adjuster for a large insurance company, a risk manager for 2 fortune 500 companies, as a consultant for one of the largest Insurance and Human Services organizations in the world and, saving the best for last, having the good fortune to work for one the largest regional insurance brokers in the Midwest have all contributed to my satisfaction in helping develop custom solutions to help my clients have peace of mind as they continue to grow and find success in their respective industries.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? When I first started, we encountered numerous prospects who were hesitant to engage in discussions about insurance, either due to a lack of trust, misconceptions about the product, or simply because they don’t see insurance as a priority. And I still see those same concerns today. I try to address these concerns through a strategic approach and a significant investment in building relationships and credibility. North Risk as an organization takes the time to understand each client’s unique needs and concerns and then tailor our solutions to each individual client. This requires not only selling ourselves and the company to a potential client, but also selling the client to the insurance market. Finding the right fit for our clients is the key to a lasting relationship.
Tell us a little about your family. - My wife works in the life and health insurance industry. We have two children and I am so proud of both of them for not only graduating from college, but also going on to completing their master’s degrees. Although, our kids ended up in non-insurance related careers, one as a teacher and the other as a mental health therapist, each of us has found our own ways to help people and contribute to our communities. I have been very blessed with a wonderful family.
What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? - The Special Olympics is a wonderful cause and a terrific organization. Each year we volunteer as an office, which give us the opportunity to connect with people and participate in the enthusiasm of the athletes. It can be infectious and fun. Connecting with everyone from the athletes to the organizers to the other volunteers makes it all worthwhile. What better way to foster a sense of community and belonging than participation in sports. I look forward to the next event. If our readers would like to contact you, how should they do so? Please contact me at dan.wenzl@northriskpartners.com

PETE
Pete Walls PLAY IT FORWARD
Meet Pete Walls, Executive Director at Play It Forward.
Tell us a little about your business. - Play It Forward is a nonprofit youth sports program that teaches multiple sports including basketball, soccer and volleyball to young athletes between the ages of 3-10 through the coaching from selected high school athletes in the community. In addition, we have an agility station and obstacle course station that focus on movement and exercise. Each session has a period called “Be Kind Time” where the high school athletes talk to the campers about the importance of being a good teammate, inclusion, sportsmanship and more. Ultimately our goal is for the young athletes to have a fun, positive experience playing multiple sports and games and meeting awesome new coaches.
How did you get started in the business? - I’m originally from Massachusetts where I coached high school basketball and youth sports for several years before moving to Omaha in 2013 where I continued to coach. Myself and two good friends and fellow coaches, Will Pope and Kyle Jurgens, saw an opportunity to provide young kids with the chance to learn multiple sports, get exercise and have a ton of fun while being coached by new role models, high school athletes in the community. We identified a gap in youth sports experiences that would introduce early elementary aged students to a wide range of sports in a fun and non-competitive setting. We also thought this was a great opportunity to provide high school athletes with leadership experience that will have a positive impact on the young athletes as well as their lives as they move on to college and the real world.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? - The biggest challenge we’ve had has been getting the word out to young families in the community about exactly who we are. Our program is unique in the fact that in one to two hour session campers have fun learning basketball, soccer, volleyball, run the obstacle course and have Be Kind Time, so unless you’ve seen our sessions it’s difficult to describe how much fun both our campers and high school athletes have.
Tell us a little about your family. - I’ve been married to my wife Meaghan for 13 years and we have two awesome daughters Avery and Kensley along with three dogs. We love sports, traveling and getting out in nature. In addition both of my daughters have been campers at Play It Forward and now that Avery is too old to be a camper she’s a volunteer helper with our PreK group.
What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life?
- Moving to Omaha from Boston was a major turning point. My wife was pregnant with our oldest daughter at the time so both of my girls were born here. We love Omaha. It’s a great place to raise a family.
What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? -
Imagine Inclusion is a non-profit my wife started with her co-founder Lauren Citro. Their mission is to support accessible and inclusive outdoor recreational opportunities regionally for schools, cities and neighborhoods, while providing disability awareness efforts in the community. Their first initiative was a partnership with the City of Omaha to build an inclusive playground in West Omaha that kids and adults of all abilities can enjoy. After five years of hard work the playground should be completed at Lake Zorinsky next month.
If our readers would like to contact you, how should they do so?Readers can learn more about our program and contact us through our website at PlayItForwardNE.org. Our Saturday morning Fall Camp starts next month so we hope to see some of your readers at camp!

KERIN
Zuger CARETECH
Meet Kerin Zuger, Chief Operations Officer at Caretech Inc.
Tell us a little about your business. - Caretech is an incredible organization that has grown through the passion of our providers and employees. We focus on person centered care for all ages and those living with disabilities. Our goal is to help them live as independently as possible. Our caregivers become part of our clients family, as we are in their home before other providers are there, while other providers are there and long after other providers have left. Anywhere, anytime, Caretech has been around for 25 years, providing the care and support our clients need, regardless of income level.
How did you get started in the business? - I’ve been in healthcare for over 20 years now. However, my entry point was on the acute side, with an air medical company. We supported hospitals across the United States coordinate the transfer of patients that needed a higher level of care. I became fascinated with the challenges across the entire healthcare ecosystem, when it comes to patients ability to access care. There are so many people that are simply unable to get the care they need, for a variety of reasons. My passionate for helping solve this problem, drew me into the post acute world, where I served as the Chief Strategy Officer for a global Home Care franchise. I focused almost exclusively on interdisciplinary partnerships and innovative solutions to get our most vulnerable populations the care they need, in their home… regardless of where home was.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally?Well, each role has been a little different. But ultimately, I think the biggest challenge, was more a learning opportunity. As a leader it is so important that you carving enough time out for your biggest asset of all…. Your people. Dedicating time to just talk and get to know them, and understand their dreams, hobbies and challenges. I’ve learned over time, if your people are happy and supported, everything else typically falls into place.
What has been your most important achievement professionally? - Well, I’m pretty proud of my overall track record and ability to adapt to not only different business models, but completely different industries. I like a challenge. The bigger the challenge, the bigger the win, and that is how my career has grown. Each opportunity a little differently than the last, but again, I will stress. There is no winning, unless you have the right team on the field. So, building, developing and supporting teams of successful professionals is probably my proudest accomplishment.
Tell us a little about your family. - Oh boy, I’ll try to keep this short, but my family is and always will be my life’s biggest accomplishment. I have a wonderfully supportive husband of 20 years, and two of the most amazing children a mother could ever ask for!! I don’t know how I got so lucky!! My son is 16 in two weeks (eeks!) and my daughter is 14. They are smart, kind, funny… perfect little humans. Meanwhile, we are blessed to have a huge family in Omaha. I am one of six children, and my mother was my ‘day care’. She has been ‘mimi’s daycare’ for all the grandchildren in Omaha, and still is with my youngest niece being only 10 months. At almost 80… she is REMARKABLE!!! I count my blessings daily. Literally, every morning I start the day with a prayer of gratitude. It always gets me off on the right foot!

The Heartland Cancer Foundation believes no cancer patient should fall behind on treatment because they struggle to afford their everyday expenses. 11,000 Nebraskans are diagnosed with cancer each year, and one in four cancer patients will not recover because they cannot afford the care they need.
This is an issue that needs to be addressed in the community, and there are several types of gifts that philanthropists can consider to support local cancer patients who are struggling financially.
Through legacy giving, individuals have the opportunity to leave a lasting impact on the lives of those battling cancer by including the foundation in their estate planning. These legacy gifts ensure that future generations of cancer patients will receive the much-needed aid and care they deserve.
Recurring giving also plays a pivotal role as it creates a steady and dependable source of funding for the foundation's ongoing efforts, such as planning and executing long-term programs and events, awareness and outreach and offering extended aid to patients during their entire treatment journey.
Finally, setting up a donor-advised fund presents a strategic way to show support and offers numerous advantages. It simplifies the giving process, consolidates multiple charitable donations into a single fund and offers flexibility in timing charitable donations–and donors can take an immediate tax deduction. If interested, the Lincoln Community Foundation is a great place to set up a fund.

Branched Oak Observatory to Host Annual StarBQ September 28 with ALLO Fiber
The role of Direct Support Professionals (DSP) in supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to function in their homes and be part of their communities is vital. That’s why Mosaic is celebrating their Direct Support Professionals who serve people with IDD during National Direct Support Professional Week, September 8-14.
“We want to raise awareness and recognize the important work DSPs do supporting people to live the life they choose. Their work makes Mosaic’s mission statement to ‘relentlessly pursue opportunities that empower people’ come alive. It is truly a work of heart, which is our theme for this year's awareness celebration,” said Mosaic in Omaha’s Executive Director Nic Batterton. “We couldn’t do what we do without them.”
Cheryl Wicks, Mosaic’s Vice President of Government Relations, leads efforts to advocate for higher pay for DSP’s and IDD disability rights along with 2,000 of “Mosaic Allied Voices” volunteers.
“Provider organizations across the nation are still experiencing staffing crises like none before,” said Wicks. “States and the federal government must remedy the decades of chronic underfunding so wages for DSPs can increase, and people with disabilities have the support they need.”
According to Batterton, “For most Direct Support Professionals their work isn’t a job, it’s often a calling. We have some DSPs who have loved and served people with IDD for decades because they know they’re making a positive difference for others. It’s a selfless act–and that’s why they should be held up, celebrated and rewarded.”

2024HuskerFansSalutetheTroopsWeekend CANCELLED
The 2024 Husker Fans Salute the Troops Weekend has been CANCELLED due to not being able to raise enough funds.
With that being said we are turning our focus over to 2025 and starting the process to raise the funds for that year’s event in which the date will be decided later on in the year.
2025 marks the 16th Husker Salute weekend, when 100 Veterans and military families plan to congregate in Lincoln at a Lincoln hotel as volunteer Husker fans host them for an awesome, morale-boosting Big Red Husker experience! The very first Husker Salute weekend was in 2008 when Nebraska played Oklahoma, as 70 heroes and their families enjoyed the hospitality and fun, despite an OU win on the field. With rave reviews and more fan support, Husker Salute weekend happened again in 2009 and has continued through the years, honoring nearly 1,100 service members and their families! Dedicated volunteers span Lincoln, surrounding Nebraska communities, and even beyond our borders during the off-season to gather funds and donations from Husker fans and businesses who also have the same passion for Husker football that transcends to a deep appreciation for the sacrifices made by our military brothers and sisters and families, to protect and provide the freedoms we have in Nebraska and across America. Husker Salute plans FUN, FREE, FAMILY-oriented activities, including the inspirational keynote speaker, tbd, with the goal to combat PTSD and to help with suicide prevention in our military population.
If you would like to become a Husker Fan who Salutes the Troops, or a Husker Business that Salutes the Troops, see our website for details and contact information HuskerSalute.org. Every donation helps, and 100% supports the cause.

UWM Volunteers Assemble Shine Bright Kits for Students
Nearly 400 community members came together, August 5-8, to brighten local students’ days by assembling more than 5,100 Shine Bright kits at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs.
Thousands of students across the metro are lacking essential hygiene items like soap, shampoo, conditioner and dental products – impacting their health, academics and confidence. Each Shine Bright kit contains the full-sized hygiene items these students need to feel good and succeed in the classroom and in life.
Shine Bright is a partnership between United Way of the Midlands (UWM), Omaha and Council Bluffs Public Schools, Papillion LaVista Schools, JAG Nebraska and others. With the community’s support, Shine Bright partners distributed the assembled Shine Bright kits to Kindergarten, sixth- and ninth-grade students in need throughout the community and to JAG Nebraska students across the state.
“Many families in our community have to make tough choices with their finances, leaving them without hygiene products like laundry detergent, soap or dental products. We are proud we can help students get the items they need to regain their confidence and ‘shine bright’ in school,” said Shawna Forsberg, president and CEO, UWM. Shine Bright is possible thanks to Supporting Sponsors: Google, Wells Fargo and the Mid-America Center, along with Community Sponsors: Election Systems & Software, Lincoln Financial Group, Metropolitan Utilities District, Nebraska Furniture Mart, Penske, Wellabe and Werner.

BUILDING OMAHA
As the most populous city in all of Nebraska, Omaha has been growing for decades now. To make sure that everyone in this growing population is happy and living in the place they dreamed about, Omaha has to make sure that they’re building things that their population can’t live without. That’s why these businesses always make sure that they projects they’re working on make Omaha a better, safer and more healthy place to live. Everything that gets built by these contractors in this city reflects its rich history and diverse influences. The city’s architecture, both modern and historical, is something to remember and these businesses make sure to keep it updated and safe for everyone who decides to live in this lovely city.
Everything that the city of Omaha does is to make sure that they’re building a city worthy of the largest population in Nebraska, and Cheever Construction and Huffman Engineering are here to help reach that goal. Omaha is constantly growing and to keep this city new and vibrant, one must put their trust in these companies. New construction is always a need for a city such as this and it continuously pays off. These companies always have a new project they’re working on to make sure this city stays beautiful, so read what they’re up to now!
Cheever Construction is giving back to its Nebraskan community with their most recent two site project in the Lincoln area. Partnering with Lincoln Public Schools and with the help of Union Bank, Cheever Construction was contracted to oversee the building of two new athletic complexes for two of Lincoln’s local public schools. At Northwest High School, Cheever provided a space for student athletes from all over Lincoln to play in a space that looks and feels professional. The final product at Northwest High School included a football stadium, track and baseball field and will be shared by the entire district’s school. The stadium can seat up to 2,800 people and has a concessions building and a press box. Then, at Standing Bear High school, Cheever oversaw the construction of four soccer and two softball fields and a six-court tennis focus. The main soccer field features seating for up to 1,000 people.
Combined, the project included two football fields, two tracks, two baseball fields, five softball fields, nine tennis courts, eight soccer, concessions, stadium, bleachers, press box, restrooms and lighting.
Before this, most of the sporting events were hosted at Seacrest High School. However, now the districts in LPS will have the resources to practice closer to home, and huge upgrade and time save for all the sporting events the school hosts.
Because this was a two site project, it took about 12 months to complete, making sure that everything was up to standard and ready for the athletes to compete and play on it for the following sports season this fall.
“We work with schools all over the state,” says President Justin Kurtzer . “LPS has been fantastic to work with and it’s exciting to see what they can do with their new athletic space.”
Braden Hadwinger and Alex Winking are the Mechanical Engineer and Senior Mechanical Engineer Engineer respectively at Huffman Engineer Inc. (HEI), and recently they worked on two separate projects for the company, with Braden working on a project with the City of Omaha and Alex working with the pharmaceutical and life sciences industries.
They have served regulated business industries since 1987 as a full-service engineering firm specializing in automation and control systems integration. Recently in the water/wastewater industries, Braden worked with the City of Omaha on a project aimed at decreasing the environmental impact of a Water Resource Recovery Facility and off-setting the costs associated with the operation of that facility. The project included a system that harvests raw biogas from the facility and cleans and upgrades it for use by consumers.
In addition, HEI also works in the pharmaceutical and life sciences industries. Huffman Engineering was excited to have a significant
Justin Kurtzer Cheever Constrcution
hand in recently completing a new Greenfield Animal Health facility. This facility included production and packaging of various products contributing to animal health including vaccines and medicine. Both projects were years in the making. Braden with HEI was involved in integrating the new project into the plants’ existing visualization software and creating reports and historical data exports used in compliance reporting for the system.
For Alex, HEI was involved in the design, build, testing and installation of the Process Control System including Single Use Bioreactors (SUBs), Single Use Mixers (SUMs) and Utilities (Pure water, water-for-injection, and clean steam distribution) as well as integrating various package systems into the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.
Braden is pleased to be a small part of the final project that will service natural gas users in and around the Omaha metro area. It will provide additional natural gas to the existing grid.
The Midwest part of the country is sometimes considered the beltway of Animal Health due to the number of significant animal health pharmaceutical, life science and biotech companies located in the Midwestern part of the country. This company is one such company and HEI’s significant experience in working with these animal and human health’s pharmaceutical companies has lent us to be instrumental in helping this particular company produce various animal health pharmaceutical products.
The water/wastewater project will help increase the supply of natural gas to the City’s residents and will offset the costs of operation of the facility and provide a payback for the project costs, honoring Huffman Engineering’s commitment to continue to provide Engineering with Impact.
This particular pharmaceutical project accommodates the health and safety of our animal friends and families by providing pharmaceutical products and provides employment opportunities in the field of animal health products production.
We are committed to being a part of engineering projects that better the communities we live and work in and no matter the industry, striving to live out our mission of Making Ideas Work for our clients each and every day.
With the flooding and the tornado recovery still ongoing, it’s important to know that you have two amazing companies that will support you and your building throughout the entire rebuilding process. Along with the new construction and the growing city, make sure your building is up to date with remodeling services as well. These skilled professionals in Omaha have been working hard to make this city one to remember. Call either of them today and make your business or home one to remember.
