Happy Silver Anniversary to Strictly Business Magazine!

After recently celebrating 10 years in the Omaha market, our team was extremely excited and humbled to take part in commemorating 25 rewarding years in Lincoln where the magazine got its start. In light of this milestone, we’d like to take a moment to reflect on the journey. It’s fun to point out all the ways the magazine has developed and grown—going from a small coupon book in Lincoln to a prominent monthly news source in Nebraska’s two largest markets—but the only thing more noteworthy than how much Strictly Business has changed is how much it hasn’t.

Throughout the years, Strictly Business has remained committed to providing the community with positive, reliable local news.

There have been many people involved in the effort to uphold and contribute to the integrity of the magazine, but the two who have been present for it all are Shayne and Paige Zutavern.

Shayne was raised in Dunning, Nebraska and Paige grew up just 30 minutes down the road in Thedford. The two of them met in 1979 and got married in 1987 after moving to Lincoln to attend college at the University. Shayne, along with friend and colleague Mike Branigan, poured his entrepreneurial spirit into Z.A.A. Inc., a direct marketing communications company. They were printing and distributing a monthly coupon book in Lincoln until they saw the need for a business publication in the local marketplace.

After overwhelming support and positive feedback from the community, Shayne decided to shift the focus towards creating “Lincoln’s Business News & Marketing Magazine,” and in July of 1993, the first issue of Strictly Business was introduced. In many ways, Shayne built the magazine, but Paige gave it wings. She took on an official role as sales manager soon after the magazine got up and running. This position allowed her to fulfill her natural ability to form connections and build relationships while promoting something she felt passionately about. It was her dream job.

Together, Paige and Shayne have taken Strictly Business to great heights, including launching a second edition in Omaha in the fall of 2007, with the help of fellow entrepreneur Angela Lee Diaz.

Today, she’s widely recognized as the founder and president of SHOLDIT, the #1 brand for solution-based accessories. Thank you Angela!

To celebrate the magazine’s 25th anniversary, we commemorated the occasion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony conducted by officials of the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce at the Strictly Business office on Friday, June 15. As we gathered together with friends, family, clients, past and present staff members, and lifelong supporters, we couldn’t help but feel overwhelmingly thankful. Today, our fantastic staff is made up of our editor, Amanda Wilson; art director, Holly Ryan; executive assistant, Hannah Hundley; parttime sales associate, Schyler Zutavern; and intern, Lizzy Werner.

has been on staff for 2 years, enhancing the magazine with her graphic design skills. Hannah joined the team earlier this year and has taken on many responsibilities, from event planning to collaborating with clients on monthly press submissions. Paige and Schyler make up the sales team. Paige is mainly in Lincoln while Schyler focuses on the Omaha market. Lizzy is a student at UNL and comes in to assist with website posting and other day-to-day office functions. Shayne oversees the billing department, offering his expertise on marketing and advertising from time to time. The magazine is and always has been a team effort.

McGill Restoration Wins International Award for Best Parking Facility Rehabilitation McGill Restoration is proud to announce one of its projects was selected as a recipient of the International Parking Institute’s (IPI) 2018 Awards of Excellence. The Nebraska Medical Center Durham Parking Structure in Omaha was one of two winners in Category V – Best Parking Facility Rehabilitation or Restoration. McGill Restoration was the contractor and construction manager for the project, with owning agency Nebraska Medicine responsible for facility project management and Walker Consultants serving as the engineer and architect. This project began in June of 2015 and was completed in October of 2016, coming in at a total cost of $1.8 million.

The Durham Parking Structure, built in 1989, is a vital asset for patients and visitors of the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Neb. After nearly three decades, corrosion and leaking were widespread and severe deterioration of structural members jeopardized safety. The existing parking function also forced circulation patterns that created the perception of a full facility, yet more than 10% of the capacity was hidden from drivers and often left unused.

The significant loss of parking precluded demolition, so separate improvement packages were developed to phase improvements, including major structural repair packages, waterproofing, striping, and wayfinding signage. The entire facility was painted to improve reflectivity and LED lighting was installed to enhance safety. Eight phases of closures during two years allowed work to go on 24 hours a day. Other design challenges were mitigated during the project as well to add parking spaces. As the parking function had no significant structural modifications, Nebraska Medicine realized tremendous safety and parking improvements at minimum capital cost. The result is a muchimproved parking experience for visitors that will serve the Omaha metro area for decades.

BBB Partners With FTC, Law Enforcement to Stop Small Business Scams The Better Business Bureau (BBB) has partnered with state and federal agencies on a research project called “Operation Main Street: Stopping Small Business Scams” - an initiative targeting operations seeking to defraud small businesses. BBB joined with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and two U.S. Attorneys’ Offices to launch the effort.

Addionally, BBB announced a new research report, “Scams and Your Small Business.” It provides substantial new insights into how fraud affects small businesses. The study suggests that scam activity directed at small businesses is growing, that these scams pose a significant risk, and they can result in a higher monetary loss than those targeting individuals. In addition, the FTC and the BBB have created new business education materials designed to help small business owners and their employees avoid, identify and report scams.

“Scams are a significant and growing problem for small businesses,” said Beverly Baskin, president and CEO, Council of Better Business Bureaus.

“Nearly two thirds of those we surveyed said their business had been targeted by a scammer in the past three years, and many said that their businesses suffered a loss of consumer trust as a result. BBB is pleased to partner with the FTC to help small businesses spot and avoid scams and fraud.”

ProStart® Teams Serve It Up at Nationals Two Nebraska ProStart teams served up their best at the National ProStart Invitational (NPSI) held April 27-30 in Providence, Rhode Island, and they placed higher in the competition than any previous Nebraska team.

Team members Savana Moore and Jazmin Koebel from Papillion La Vista South High School’s “MoodFood” competed against 45 other teams in the Management competition and took a commanding 6th place finish. “Guac and Roll,” Lincoln’s Career Academy’s team of Francisco Chavira Gonzalez, Tessa Mariscal, Corbin Reinhardt, and Sagan Smith, placed in the top 25, a strong showing in a tough Culinary competition.

ProStart is a program of the Hospitality Education Foundation, the educational arm of the Nebraska Restaurant Association. The curriculum is designed to teach high school students the culinary and management skills that lead to successful careers as professionals in the hospitality and food service industry.

Annually, over 400 of the top ProStart students from across the U.S. - the winners of Regional and State competitions - vie for scholarships in the secondary school invitational which focuses on restaurant management and culinary arts. Attendance at the competition would not have been possible without the support of National ProStart sponsors Don & Millie’s and Nebraska Pork Producers.

As one of the 46 teams in the Management competition, the “MoodFood” team was required to develop their own unique restaurant concept. The team presented a written and oral proposal to a panel of world-class judges who then quizzed them on how they would solve some of the challenges restaurateurs face daily. “MoodFood” received invaluable support and training from Educator Louise Dornbusch and Mentor Casey Craven of Herbe Sainte, a ProStart “alum.”

Culinary contenders, the “Guac and Roll” team showcased their creativity and proficiency by preparing a three-course meal in 60 minutes using only two butane burners and without access to running water or electricity. Judges evaluated “Guac and Roll” not only on taste, but on skill, teamwork, safety, and sanitation. Chef Maybell Galusha, the Career Academy educator, and Mentor Justin Stout, corporate chef for Eat Fit Go, provided unparalleled professional guidance and assistance to the team.

Zoo Brew Series to Feature New Limited Edition Beers From Zipline Brewing Co.

Patty Nun, an NRA Trained Pistol Instructor and owner of Living In The Yellow, has announced the addition of a fall Women’s Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP) Class to be offered in Lincoln, NE on Saturday, October 27.

This program is approved and required for women who would like to apply to the Nebraska State Patrol to be able to carry a concealed handgun.

Living In The Yellow has been providing Women’s Basic Pistol Training Classes since 2014 and that class is a prerequisite for those who would like to attend their CHP training. Nun explains, “We feel strongly that a basic pistol class better prepares a woman to know and understand how to safely operate a firearm and provides them with the confidence needed to be able to select a gun they will be personally comfortable with owning and operating.”

Living In The Yellow’s next Basic Pistol Course for Women, for women who have little or no previous experience handling a pistol, is Saturday, September 22.

“We all know there is no substitute for being prepared and aware of our surroundings to insure the safety of ourselves and our family members.

Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium and Zipline Brewing Co. are partnering for a Zoo Brew Series, consisting of four limited edition beers, to begin launching in July. Each beer will focus on conservation efforts of a different animal species, with proceeds directly supporting field conservation projects around the globe.

Red Panda Wheat, brewed with red wheat and bamboo shoots (a favorite food of red pandas), is the first beer in the series to be introduced. Launching at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium’s Brew at the Zoo event on July 14, proceeds from Red Panda Wheat will support red panda conservation in Asia. Specifically, by replanting bamboo food sources and providing economic alternatives and educational programs to people living in red panda habitats.

Three other beers will follow throughout the remainder of 2018 and into 2019. Among those slated for release are an India Pale Ale produced exclusively with hard to find South African hops.

Storm Chasers Community Week a Success The Omaha Storm Chasers organization’s 4th annual “Chasers Community Week” presented by Summit Dental Health took place last month. Omaha Storm Chasers players and front office members, as well as representatives from Summit Dental Health, volunteered their time throughout the Omaha Metro community from June 5-11. Events included include players visiting Children’s Hospital and the Boys & Girls Club of South Omaha, as well as attending All Play Miracle League games at Seymour Smith Park.

Members of the Storm Chasers front office staff served lunch at Open Door Mission and teamed up with players and Sarpy Habitat For Humanity to work at a project site, with Summit Dental working there as well and hosting a Lemonade Stand outside of the Werner Park gates to help raise money for Open Door Mission.

Finally, Storm Chasers players and coaches also volunteered their time by participating in the annual Lil Chasers Baseball 101 Clinic at Werner Park.

Single game tickets for all remaining Storm Chasers home contests are still available and can be purchased online at www. omahastormchasers.com, or by calling the Werner Park Ticket Office from noon until 6 p.m. Monday-Friday at (402) 738-5100.

The show highlights vintage and collectable cars, hotrods, and motorcycles from every era starting with the early 1900s, featuring rare finds such as a 1910 Ford Model T originally sold by a car dealership in Omaha, an original 1919 Excelsior motorcycle with a sidecar, and a 1950 Oldsmobile convertible with brown leather interior. Jerry and Connie Vincentini, honorary chairs for the show, and a committee of collectors personally handpicked and invited rare auto owners to participate.

The auto show will take place on Saturday, July 21 and Sunday, July 22, concluding with an awards ceremony at 2 p.m. The public will be given ballot cards as they enter the museum show and will vote for their favorite.

The museum is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and general admission is $12 for adults, $11 for seniors and military, and $6 for youth ages 4-12. The show is free for members and open to the public. General admission applies but the show is included in general admission.

Collaborative Effort Aimed at Landing Tech Firm in Council Bluffs Development Pillar Technology (pillartechnology.com), a Columbus, Ohio IT consulting firm known for uncovering and executing industry-disrupting opportunities, plans to occupy 8,000 square feet in the first office building of the River’s Edge mixed-use development in Council Bluffs. Presently, Pillar operates The Forge, its unique, energy-driven, integrated workspace, in Columbus, OH; Palo Alto, CA; Ann Arbor, MI; and Des Moines, IA. Its expected expansion to Council Bluffs would be the result of collaboration between Pillar, the Advance Southwest Iowa Corporation, the City of Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie County, the Greater Omaha Chamber Economic Development Partnership, and the Iowa Economic Development Authority.

The Council Bluffs City Council, Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors, and the Iowa Economic Development Board of Directors will vote on a total of $1.3 million dollars in incentives, an economic investment intended to fuel Pillar’s decision to locate in the region. Pillar would commit to creating 30 new full-time IT positions over the next seven years, and move into the building’s third floor in the first quarter of 2019.

Council Bluffs would be Pillar’s sixth Forge, following an announcement in May that Pillar also plans to open a Forge in Jefferson, Iowa as part of Future Ready Iowa, an initiative with the state and its educational system aimed at keeping attractive IT jobs in the region. Linc Kroeger, Pillar’s Regional Lead in the state, believes the Omaha metro area is an ideal fit for the firm’s expansion plans.

“At Pillar, we know that some of the best IT talent can be found in the Midwest,” Kroeger explained. “But all too often that talent heads to the coasts, in search of more attractive jobs. We believe the potential in the Silicon Prairie is limitless. That’s why we’re expanding our presence here, bringing on board the best software developers and problem solvers the region has to offer in order to build software the right way, right here.“ Pillar would be the River’s Edge office building’s second tenant. The Iowa West Foundation will occupy the building’s fourth floor. Plans for the 21-acre riverfront site include two multi-story office buildings, a parking structure, apartments, townhouses, and various mixed-use buildings. The Noddle Companies is the master developer of the project.

Leadership Omaha Class 40 Graduates Leadership Omaha, one of the longest-running community leadership programs in the nation, graduated its latest class of standouts during a ceremony at The Venue at The Highlander on June 7.

Like the more than 1,700 Leadership Omaha alumni before them, members of Class 40 spent 10 months learning about challenges and opportunities in the community. Class members also participated in small-group projects designed to have a positive, direct impact on the community. Meet Dan Weber, executive coach and CEO of Peak Pathways LLC. Tell us a little about your business. - Peak Pathways LLC provides creative, customized coaching solutions to individuals and organizations to help them reach their goals. Using a holistic approach focused on sustainable results, we help clients assess, control, reverse, and prevent the causes of low performance. Working with leaders and their staff during group and one-to-one meetings, we help them find their way to the top with selfawareness, knowledge, skills, and support. How did you get started in the business? - I started the company 15 years ago after a successful career in corporate finance and general management. I always enjoyed helping people grow in their careers and I realized that was becoming less and less a part of my function. I had great business knowledge and experience in a variety of situations and knew I could help people grow personally and professionally as well as grow their business. I did some research, earned my coaching certification, and then found my first client who was the new COO of a major golf equipment manufacturer in California. From there, things grew and evolved.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? - My father told me not to bother telling people what you are going to do; just do it and people will notice without being told. That advice became the do/say ratio, a concept we coach leadership clients to utilize in building trust with their teams. Successful leaders have a ratio greater than one.

However, when people honestly track their ratio they often discover room for improvement.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? - Supercentenarian! Yes, I’d like to live to 110 or more; my goal is actually 120. I enjoy living and learning and want to keep doing both for as long as possible. I will have eternity in the next life so I want as much time in this one as possible. From my coaching work, I know that setting stretch goals is important in maximizing success.

Having 120 as my goal positively influences my choices about health, finances, and relationships.

What local non-profit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? - I am a trustee and ambassador for the Greater Omaha Alliance for Business Ethics, commonly known as the Business Ethics Alliance. Trust is the foundation of successful leadership and teamwork, but ethics is the bedrock on which that trust is built. Having worked with a couple of low-ethic leaders, I know firsthand how devastating that it to employees, vendors, customers, and the community. I also know it is often a thin line between ethical and unethical behavior, so leadership diligence and employee awareness are critical.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? - A personal favorite and the book I recommend most frequently to clients is Crucial Conversations: Tools for Talking When Stakes Are High.

Communication is 60% or more of leadership, sales, and business in general. However, most people do not have the skills to effectively communicate when it matters the most.

What is your favorite local restaurant? - My wife and I recently discovered Hook & Lime in NoDo. Their smoked trout taco, guacamole, and margaritas are all terrific!

Tell us a little about your business. - Bridge to Better Living was started

by Mary Ann Stallings eight years ago from a passion to help friends and family find the right fit for retirement living. BBL helps individuals, at no cost, research Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care and Long-Term Care options.

How did you get started in the business? - I had been familiar with BBL and an Omaha consultant when I received a phone call asking if I was interested in joining the team. I LOVE the mission of Bridge to Better Living, “Placement with Passion.”

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? - I’m saddened when people have not prepared for the future and there are limited options for senior living communities.

What has been your most important achievement professionally?

- Connecting with seniors and their families and developing a trusting relationship to assist with one of the biggest and sometimes most difficult decisions.

Tell us a little about your family. - I have been married for 25 years and am blessed with three handsome boys. We also have two Schnauzers, one black Lab, and a hedgehog.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? At the young age of 32, my sister was diagnosed with a rare form of lymphoma. Her condition became critical and we almost lost her. Treasure family and friends. Live life to the fullest.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - Spending time with my boys. My summer tan is courtesy of baseball and track.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? - My family and I have swum with whale sharks in Mexico. I have also parasailed in Florida. Topping my bucket list is to view Great White Sharks.

What are you the proudest of? - My children. My oldest (21) is in the Construction Management program at UNO, my middle son (17) enjoys playing football and track for Gretna, and our youngest (14) is an active volunteer. He received the Presidential Award for volunteering over 100 hours with Memory Care residents.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? - One person can make a difference. Use your voice and stand up for your beliefs.

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? - Child advocate attorney.

What local non-profit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? - I help host donor drives and am a registered donor for Be the Match. When it was determined I wasn’t a match for my sister, my family hosted several drives in Iowa and Nebraska to raise awareness for the need for blood marrow donors. Through Be the Match, my sister was able to find a perfect match from a donor in Germany. I’m also an American Red Cross blood donor and do some hospice volunteering.

What is your favorite local restaurant? - Anything Mexican!

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? - My grandparents who have passed on. I was close with them and miss them dearly. They had wonderful stories to share.

Tell us a little about your business. - Echo Systems is a part of Echo Group, which does business in five states and employs almost 500 people. We now rank #32 on CE Pro’s list of the top 100 audio/visual companies in the United States. Echo Systems specializes in the design and installation of lighting control, motorized shade solutions, audio and video distribution systems, video surveillance, video conferencing, huddle spaces, conference rooms, sound masking, classrooms, auditoriums, houses of worship, digital signage, and much more. We have a one-of-a-kind $2.5 million “Experience Center” in Omaha, NE. How did you get started in the business? - I was working in another industry when someone from Echo Systems who thought I would be a good fit for the business approached me about an employment opportunity.

Once I got started working with the Echo System team I realized it really was a perfect fit for me, and it has been an absolute joy working with them every day!

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? - “Be teachable and treatable. It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it.” If you think about that, you’ll do things differently. That has been a major part of my professional and personal life; you never know who you might meet.

What are you most proud of? - My daughter and granddaughter. They make me proud each and every day!

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? To have been given the opportunity to work in the tech industry. It was a completely different career path for me and with the continuously changing landscape of technology, it definitely keeps you on your toes!

The fact that I work with such a talented group of individuals helps me grow and expand my knowledge base every day.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? - My family has been involved in two restaurant operations in Omaha for over 50 years. My uncles, Al Cascio and Joe Cascio, started Cascio’s Steak House and my aunt and uncle, Rose and Fred Bruning, started Big Fred’s Pizza. Both restaurants are still being run by family members and remain two of Omaha’s longtime favorites.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? - Creative.

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? - I’d love to be a fashion designer. Fashion is so much fun and a great way to show off your creativity and personality each time you walk into a room.

What is your favorite local restaurant? - Of course my family’s restaurants, but definitely can’t forget about Pasta Amore, which is amazing too!

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? - Warren Buffett. He’s been incredibly successful for such a long period of time, so I might be able to pick up some great finance tips at the very least!

NORTHWEST FEED & GRAIN CO. Meet Steve Probst, co-owner of Northwest Feed & Grain Co. Tell us a little about your business. Northwest Feed & Grain Co. is a diverse provider of animal feeds, animal supplies, lawn and garden products, animal bedding products, livestock equipment and outdoor items.

How did the business get its start? - Our exact location at 8625 Military Rd. has been in operation since the 1940s. Prior to that it used to be 8 miles from Omaha and was a feed and grain operation, as well as supplying coal and some lumber for local farmers. Our family got involved in the business in 1978 and has acquired ownership over time.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about your business that many people probably don’t know? - Most people aren’t aware of the diversity of animal feeds we provide and the logistics of our operations. We actually have two locations; there’s Northwest Feed & Grain in Omaha and we have another location in Blair, NE, WashCo Feed & Supply. The two locations are vastly different. Our Omaha location is more of a retail store, whereas our location in Blair is more on the commercial side. We deliver most of the feed from our Blair location directly out to farmer-feeder operations.

What types of customers do you typically serve? - One of our most high-profile clients is the Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium.

We provide them with everything from elephant supplements to primate diets, hoof stock diets, specialized diets for the flamingos and kangaroos/wallabies, and at least 20-30 more items for various species of exotic animals in the care of the Zoo. We are also one of the area’s larger providers of equine feeds and serve many cow/ calf producers as well as feed yards raising cattle. As for our Omaha location specifically, pet business is the majority of what we do there.

We’ve seen a big increase in customers who are raising poultry in their backyards; people really like having the ability to raise their own animals and having access to farm-fresh eggs without needing to have a farming operation. Then there are acreage owners raising sheep, goats, pigs, calves, etc. We actually do business with quite a few wild bird enthusiasts too, as feeding them and birdwatching has become a popular hobby.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? - One of the biggest challenges was being a young person in the business back in the early 80s and acquiring financing and operating capital to grow our business over the years.

What has been your most important achievement professionally?

- Continuing to successfully operate a family-owned business with all of the challenges that both a family business and just a business itself bring. We also have two daughters, Jenni and Jill, sons-in-law Chris and Sam, and are the proud grandparents of six grandchildren: Lena, Ben, Max, Alex, Sam, and Weston. They all live in the Omaha area.

Tell us a little about your role with the firm. - I represent owners, general contractors, developers, architects, subcontractors, engineers, suppliers, insurers, and lenders in countless disputes, state and federal lawsuits, and arbitrations. How did you get started in the business? - I developed an interest in becoming an attorney at a young age from watching my father in the courtroom. He was an attorney, so growing up, I watched him represent people and help defend their interests.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? - The ability to time travel. I was a history major, so the ability to be a spectator during historical events would be fascinating.

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? - I would choose to be an astronomer. Space has always intrigued me, so I would love to study and observe other galaxies, stars, and planets.

Which talent would you most like to have? - The ability to sing and play musical instruments. I can’t carry a tune or play any instruments, but I love music.

What local non-profit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? - I am on the Board of Directors for the Jewish Community Center. I spent a great amount of time during my youth playing sports at the JCC. I love having the opportunity to help the JCC grow and expand for future generations.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? - I just finished Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express. I love detective novels.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? I’m extremely proud of starting my own business, which was a lifelong dream of mine.

Tell us a little about your family. - My family is absolutely amazing. My wife Jessie and I have four children and a dog. Much of our free time is devoted to running our kiddos around to sporting events and activities, and we love spending time together, especially on family vacations.

Family is the most important thing to me; everything I do, I do for them.

You Don’t Have to Like Prospecting, You Just Have to Do It

Bob absolutely detests cold calling, and when he is in a sales slump, like he is this month, he’ll do just about anything to avoid the phone. He’ll update his CRM with all the new phone numbers that he can remember. Picking the lint off his suit becomes a serious endeavor. Figuring out his commissions, then considering if he should make some sales beyond the normal price points, requires intense calculator work. Lunchtime starts at around 10:40 a.m. With luck, he’ll remember that one of his customers mentioned three months ago that she might know someone whom he should stop by and see. At last, someone to call. But, unfortunately, she is on vacation this week. Have to mark that one to call next week. Going through his CRM file of past “dead” prospects, he decides to sort them by when he saw them last. Then he’ll call the oldest ones, figuring that by now they probably want something. But, looking at the contacts, he realizes that not all of them have Date Of Last Contact filled in. “Damn, that won’t work,” he mutters to himself. “I know what I can do,” he says to himself, feeling much better. “I’ll go find the sales manager and bug him about not having the latest product information sheets that were promised five weeks ago.

I really need them today if I’m going to get anywhere.” Coming back to his desk an hour later, without any new product information sheets, he decides that now, since its 2:10 Wednesday afternoon, no one he calls will have any time for him. “I’ve got an appointment tomorrow morning at 10:45 so that kills tomorrow for cold calling,” he reasons. “I think I’ll spend the rest of the day preparing for that meeting. It is my first time into the company. I want to make a good impression.”

Bob has not accomplished any prospecting activity that will generate any future sales. In fact, as he sits there, his prospects are being cold-called

by the competition. And if he contacts them some other day, only to find out they bought from the competition, will he see the point of “Why didn’t you cold call me?”

Unless you have a prospecting plan that is reasonable and doable, you will never do any serious prospecting. Instead, much like Bob, you will go from day to day “running into” prospects who might or might not buy your product. Most salespeople decide to create a prospecting plan when they are in a sales slump. While a sales slump does provide motivation to do something, the psychological push to do something is based on the fear of failing. Fear is a lousy motivator because every act that the salesperson thinks of doing becomes tinged with the thought that it won’t work. “And since it won’t work,” thinks the salesperson in the slump, “why bother doing it? I’ll just fail.” The vicious circle of a sales slump, fear of failing, then thinking of things to do but coloring them as probable failures, leads to doing nothing productive.

Perhaps Bob’s preparation for tomorrow’s appointment will result in a sale. If it does, he will believe that when he is in a sales slump, the proper action to take is preparing for a future appointment. What will Bob do when he does not have an appointment the following day?

There are many ways for salespeople to prospect. Cold calling on the phone, physically showing up unannounced, sending invitations to seminars, asking existing customers, “If you were me, who would you call?”—literally hundreds of ways. None of them will work unless the salesperson does them on a daily basis. You don’t have to like prospecting, you just have to do it.

Join Grief’s Journey on Saturday, August 18 from 9-11:30 a.m. for the 20th Annual Remembrance Walk to celebrate the life of loved ones who have died. The 2018 event is set to take place at Miller’s Landing (151 Freedom Park Rd.) and the theme is “Teams, Tennis Shoes, and Tutus.” There will be mascots, cheerleaders, and celebrity sports team appearances along with fun happenings including arm art, hair chalk, a tutu creation station, and memorial crafts. BBBS Partners With Local Barbershops for Real Men Mentor Campaign Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of the Midlands is continuing its partnership with local barbershops for the Real Men Mentor - Barbershop Campaign.

This campaign is designed to encourage men to become mentors for the boys on BBBS’s waiting list. There are currently 75+ boys, ages 7 to 14, in Omaha waiting to be matched with a mentor.

Tee It Up Fore Sight Raises Money for Outlook Nebraska’s Programs for the Blind On June 7, it was the perfect day for 188 golfers and nine Blind Golf Academy participants to hit the course. Outlook Nebraska’s Tee It Up Fore Sight tournament, with proceeds benefiting Outlook’s Enrichment Programs and Blind Golfer Academy, were held at Indian Creek Golf Course.

The four-person scramble tournament had three flights. Golfers teed off at noon, following a grab-and-go lunch, with a shotgun start. This year, a women’s flight was added, and eleven teams participated. The tournament concluded with a short overview presentation of Outlook’s Enrichment Programs.

Outlook Nebraska’s Blind Golf Academy took place in the morning.

Several visually impaired golfers were paired with golf pros and adaptive sports specialists to learn putting, chipping, and driving.

Following their lessons, they played a few holes on the course, meeting up with the tournament golfers at lunch before they took to the links.

Nearly $40,000 was raised for Outlook Nebraska’s Enrichment Programs. Through recreation activities designed for teens with vision loss, participants gain confidence, build skills that will stay with them into adulthood, and are able to form valuable friendships with peers who understand visual challenges. These activities include the Blind Golfer Academy. With the help of generous donors, Outlook Nebraska clients are also reconnecting with the world by learning how to use computers, smartphones, and other devices with limited or no vision. Additionally, they are able to do the things they love, such as attending audio described live theater performances and tactile art workshops, through Outlook’s Enrichment Programs. Girl Scouts Opens State’s First Zip Line Tour High-flying adventurers gathered April 15 for the grand opening of Soaring Hawk Zip Line Tour, an attraction open to the public at a Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska camp near Fremont. Celebrants cut a ribbon in honor of Nebraska’s first multi-station zip line tour after spending the afternoon taking a sneak peek of the attraction. Open to the public and to Girl Scouts, Soaring Hawk Zip Line Tour gives thrillseekers a bird’s-eye view of the Elkhorn River Valley and its surrounding forest and prairie. Riders progress through the course with guides certified in zip line safety. With five runs, or individual zip lines, Soaring Hawk sends riders careening across prairies and through the woods. Runs vary in height and length, building in speed and intensity as the course progresses, and reaching speeds up to 30 mph.

Riders should plan for 2-3 hours to complete the tour, depending on group size, and must be at least 10 years old and weigh between 60 and 275 pounds. Prices range from $20 to $50 per person. Old Chicago Summer Camp Challenge to Benefit CEDARS During the summer months, Old Chicago restaurants across the country are hosting a Summer Camp Challenge in which diners can participate to win prizes. Midlands Community Foundation is accepting grant applications from nonprofit organizations. Grants are limited to organizations that provide services in the Foundation’s geographic area of Sarpy and Cass counties.

The Foundation places an emphasis on prevention and education and has a strong commitment toward programs benefiting health, art, culture, community, economic development, education, and human services. Vehicle Donation Program Still Going Strong After 12 Years 2018 marks the 12th year for the Adult & Teen Challenge of the Midlands’ Vehicle Donation Program, which makes the organization’s efforts possible. Thanks to your continued support, many individuals who are working to overcome addiction have been able to successfully change their lives for the better.

Donations accepted include cars, trucks, vans, SUVs, boats, campers, RVs, tractors and more! Arrangements will be made for pick-up (whether you’re home or not) and they’ll handle all the paperwork, making donation simple and hassle-free. All that is needed is the vehicle keys and the title, signed by everyone listed as an owner. At the time of pick-up, they’ll remove and return your old plates and issue you a receipt that shows that they took possession of the vehicle and that their liability insurance is activated at that moment. Once the car arrives at their facility, the titling paperwork will be completed and you’ll receive a 501(c)3 donation tax-deductible receipt in the mail. If auctioned and the vehicle sells for more than $500, it’s required to be reported to the IRS and you’ll receive a completed Form 1098C for your records within 30 days of that transaction.

Tickets on Sale for 12th Annual Summer Bash for Childhood Cancer Sponsored by the Metro Area Youth Foundation, Inc., an all-volunteer organization comprised of Omaha Metro Area Optimist Clubs, the 12th annual Summer Bash for Childhood Cancer will be held on Saturday, August 25 at 5:30 p.m. at the Embassy Suites La Vista Convention Center. Cancer is the leading cause of death among young children. Its catastrophic effects hit both the patient and the entire family. At Heartland Hope Mission’s South Omaha and Millard food pantries, working poor families select a week’s supply of nutritious groceries including milk, frozen meat, and fresh produce to prepare wellbalanced meals at home. However, Heartland Hope is more than a pantry. Clients receive clothing, hygiene items, diapers, and access to a Client Service Specialist who assists with SNAP (food stamp) applications and navigational services. Heartland Hope’s Jobs Paths Program provides access to current job postings and on-site interviews with employers. Clients can also participate in financial classes, nutrition education, and a community garden. The goal is to provide programming and wrap-around services to prevent families from becoming homeless and to help people achieve or rebuild self-sufficiency.

United Way of the Midlands Invests in MLCDC United Way of the Midlands (UWM) is making a significant financial investment in Midlands Latino Community Development Corporation (MLCDC; wwwmidlandslatinocdc.org) during the next two years, with $20,000 approved for the period of July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019. These funds will be invested in new workforce development programs for low-income communities, including food processing and sewing training. A Community Development grant from Office of Community Services (DHHS) will match funds with the UWM grant to pay a full-time position.

The food processing program is going to be focused on educating participants about how to start a successful food business. It will start this month working in partnership with No More Empty Pots in North Omaha. Additionally, construction plans for the MLCDC’s commercial kitchen are in the process of being approved by Douglas County and the city of Omaha. The construction of Las Americas Kitchen Express will begin this fall and is expected to be fully operational in the spring of 2020. It will help low-income food entrepreneurs to formalize and grow their businesses by giving them the opportunity to become self-sufficient and create many new job opportunities for low-income people in their communities.

With the support of three designers who are MLCDC’s clients, the sewing program will also start this month, producing trained and workready entrepreneurs and employees for the Clothing Manufacturing Cooperative. Sewing training will be provided in the factory of Little Miss Fashion. MLCDC designed a curriculum which will include three levels of education, each lasting two months, along with microbusiness training.

Special thanks to the United Way of the Midlands for this important contribution that will allow MLCDC to fulfill its mission of lowering the poverty level of the people in our community.

Angels Among Us Announces 2018 Gala Date Angels Among Us will host its 2018 Gala, “No Place Like Home,” on Friday, September 21 at A View On State. This important event helps raise funds for families from Nebraska and Iowa who are battling pediatric cancer, providing critical support that enables them to remain financially stable. The event will feature dinner, silent and live auctions, music and a program featuring the stories of families who have been helped by the support of Angels Among Us and major event sponsors are the David Spence Cancer Fund and Craig and Jane Pohlman.

Angels Among Us is a Nebraska-based nonprofit that provides financial support for families needing assistance due to a cancer journey. Any family living in or being treated in Nebraska is eligible to apply. Angels Among Us pays $500 per month up to 18 months for bills to creditors on behalf of the family, ensuring that funds go for their intended purpose.

As of January, Angels Among Us has supported 89 families this year alone and over 375 families over its 12-year history.

Local Builders Join Forces for Habitat Omaha Blitz Build As part of Habitat for Humanity’s Home Builders Blitz 2018, professional builders and suppliers provided the labor, funding, and materials to help more families across the U.S. build strength, stability, and self-reliance through improved shelter. Habitat Omaha celebrated its 11th year participating in this special build. The organization partnered with eight local builders to build nine homes in the Adams Park neighborhood from June 4-8. Builders took these homes from foundation to drywall in five days and will put the finishing touches on the houses later this summer. A total of ten homes will be complete before the end of summer, making Habitat Omaha’s total investment in the area more than $1.5 million this year. More than 10 additional homes will be constructed on adjacent streets later this year and in 2019. The American Heart Association will host its annual Omaha Go Red For Women Expo on Tuesday, September 25 at Embassy Suites – Omaha – La Vista Conference Center.

The event is part of the Go Red For Women movement that encourages local women to take charge of their heart health by making it a top priority so they can live stronger, longer lives. The American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement uncovers the truth about heart disease – an often silent, hidden and misunderstood killer – so that all women can share the truth. “Both organizations did an absolutely wonderful job promoting and growing the competition,” said Kari Lundeen, NCBB donor recruitment representative. “We saw a 27% increase in donations from both groups overall and a 30% increase in new donors. It created a friendly rivalry and also got more employees involved. The true winners are the patients in local hospitals receiving the generous donations.”

Each organization had their own tactics for recruiting blood donors, including giveaways, internal promotion from leadership, newsletter features and free blood typing at lunch and learns.

Las VegasThe City That Never Sleeps Since it’d been almost 2 years since our last visit, we decided to go back to Las Vegas where there are always new things to see, do, and (best of all) eat! Here are some of our favorites: Hakkasan Restaurant | hakkasan.com | (702) 891-7888 On the first night, our party of five made reservations at Hakkasan, located in the MGM Grand, for an upscale dining experience.

We ordered appetizers to share, which included the Hakka Steamed Dim Sum Platter (aka the best dumplings in the world) and the most unique display of shrimp any of us had ever seen. For dessert, we treated ourselves to the Lemon Pot which will push any lemon lover over the edge. And to mirror their impressive menu of professionally-crafted entrées and à la carte items, they also have an excellent assortment of specialty cocktails.

Overall, our dining endeavors at Hakkasan were a success and our waitress made the experience even better, with her friendly service and helpful suggestions. Turns out nice people, like us Nebraskans, are in Vegas too!

Lucky for us, the fourth floor was all the farther we had to travel to bust a move. Convenience is such a luxury, especially when you’re wearing high heels.

As we ascended up to the main nightclub, the nightlife element of Hakkasan began to show its face—its sweet, beautiful face. The energy was contagious! This amphitheater-style club is equipped with an elevated DJ booth, a large full-service bar, and VIP seating areas that surround the dance floor. Between the rockin’ music, walls with floor-to-ceiling LED screens, and a visually stunning two-story water feature, the nightclub at Hakkasan will have all your senses tingling.

A.Y.C.E. Buffet | palms.com/ayce-buffet | (866) 9427770 After a late night out on the town, our only hope for a quick 360 recovery was food and a lot of it. Thankfully, we found ourselves at A.Y.C.E. Buffet which recently opened up its doors in the Palms Casino & Resort.

A.Y.C.E., which stands for All-You-Can-Eat (so clever!), features made-from-scratch recipes and various worldly cooking methods. It isn’t like other buffets where you go around and scoop the food onto your plate. Almost everything was pre-portioned into perfectly-sized servings in cute containers. We recommend the eggs Benedict and their French onion soup— holy delicious! Our group also enjoyed their shrimp cocktails and New England clam boil with tasty crawfish. In addition, their meat selection with offerings like Moroccan lamb and smoked turkey wings, was definitely on point. All they were missing was some good ol’ Nebraska beef… but we won’t hold that against them.

The buffet also had great vegan and vegetarian options.

For just under $20 per person, this top-notch eatery not only offers all the food your heart desires, but also bottomless mimosas on Sundays! That’s right—all you can eat AND all you can drink. Needless to say, A.Y.C.E. Buffet is a must when you’re in Vegas.

WOW | WOW-vegas.com | (855) 234-7469 Well, the name ‘WOW’ is pretty fitting because we literally said it at least hundred times during the show. WOW is an internationallyacclaimed production full of flips and tricks that will blow your mind.

This is definitely a show we’d recommend seeing while in Vegas. This 90-minute production at the Rio features about 30 artists who dance and fly across the stage in conjunction with 3D-multimedia projections, holograms, fast-paced choreography, and great theatrical lighting.

And the intimate, 180-degree theatrical set-up allows the audience to feel like they’re right up in the action.

There was a comical pirate skit that our group really enjoyed, along with a “dancing in the rain” number that had us on the edge of our seats. The shock hasn’t completely worn off yet, but you can’t expect anything less from a Vegas production.

Sushi Roku | innovativedining.com/restaurants/ sushiroku | (702) 733-7373 Our experience at Sushi Roku was full of many pleasant surprises. This was a last minute addition to our itinerary, but ended up being one of the highlights of our trip!

The restaurant is located on the third level of the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace, overlooking the Strip.

Everything we ordered was yummy, but the Chilean Sea Bass literally melted in our mouths.

It’s amazing how much emphasis was put on presentation—not just on the food platters, the drinks too! We ordered the prettiest cocktail any of us had ever seen. It was a seductive shade of pink, garnished with a purple flower, and infused with dry ice that caused white smoke to ooze over the edge of the glass. It was mesmerizing!

The outstanding hospitality and guest experience offered by Sushi Roku definitely didn’t go unnoticed. And we’re happy to report that the prices were comparable to those of sushi joints here in Nebraska, which made it even better! It’s safe to say, Sushi Roku is definitely worth a visit on your next trip to Las Vegas.

ABSINTHE | www.tix4.com | (877) 849-4868 For our final outing, we were able to find tickets on Tix4.com to ABSINTHE at Caesars Palace, an adult combination of comedy and circus performance presented by Spiegelword. We recommend Tix4Tonight to all our friends and family—it’s the #1 ticket seller in Vegas, offering discounts on top shows as well as tours and attractions. As far as shows go, ABSINTHE has earned itself quite the reputation. This burlesque-like production is guaranteed to make you gasp, either because you’re offended or because you just saw the most amazing acrobatic stunt you’ve ever seen. One of our favorite moments included a hand-to-hand balancing act in which two men portrayed as bankers, wearing suits and ties, showed off their super-human strength. And we can’t forget about the host/producer of the show The Gazillionaire—let’s just say he isn’t afraid to hurt anyone’s feelings. This show isn’t for everyone but we definitely enjoyed the theatrics. (Side note: Tix4.com also has a Vegas Dining Card featuring more than 70 of the most popular restaurants, including bars and buffets. It’s also important to decide who will be involved in the project and to what extent. A good starting point is being honest with yourself about the amount of sweat equity you’re willing and able to put into the project. If you’re capable of doing the entire project or even just certain parts of it and know exactly what you’re getting into, go for it and save some money! You may simply be lacking a few things to get the job done, and if that includes tools, you can easily rent them at Honeyman Rent-All instead of buying them outright or hiring someone else for the job for that reason alone. We have three different types of renovation loans, each with its own restrictions. Then there’s the option to purchase a home and incorporate the improvements all in one loan using the value after it has been improved, which meets the needs of our clients who want to buy a home that needs to be updated. Any of these allow our clients to do minor updates all the way up to major upgrades - luxury, health and safety, livability, and structural. Kitchens and bathrooms do continue to offer the biggest bang for your dollar. Speaking of which, it’s important to address one of the biggest misconceptions – that the work that is being completed will be dollar for dollar towards the home’s value. That is most often not the case. For those who already own the property, I would suggest having a market analysis done ahead of time using current conditions and then again afterward factoring in the improved conditions. The realtor can give a close estimate of what the increased value potentially may be based on the upgrades. The same is true for a buyer looking to purchase and do the remodeling all in one loan.

When looking at remodeling, oftentimes the homeowner intends to stay at their current residence for a while, so there’s the value of their enjoyment of the surroundings. But you also need to take into account how long it will take to recoup the funds being invested into the property, if you’re overbuilding for the area, and most importantly, if the changes being done will hinder the resale when you are ready.”

Supporting Non-Profits As businesspeople, while working hard towards our goals, we also know that we play an important part in making our community a better place. We are invested in those efforts because it allows us to build our businesses as well as raise our families, cultivate friendships, and lead happy, healthy and fulfilling lives. Here in the greater Omaha metropolitan area, you’ll find many people working together to care for one another, to give a hand up to those in need for the greater good, to protect our environment, and to make our city the best place to live and work it can possibly be. In a community that understands the importance of giving back and places a lot of value in it, you’ll also find it to be a big part of corporate culture here in small and large businesses alike.

Supporting our local non-profit organizations is something that we can all do to give back individually - and to truly make a difference collectively.

An excellent example of the power of philanthropy at the local level just happened a couple months ago. For the sixth year, the Omaha Metro community came together for Omaha Gives! on May 23 and showed their support in a big way. With over 50,000 donations to almost a thousand different non-profit organizations, the total raised came in at $7.4 million. Those funds are going to change lives for those here in our community, and is a powerful statement of what can be accomplished when we all come together for the greater good. But it doesn’t stop there.

While not diminishing the fact that these funds are greatly appreciated and put to good use throughout the year, it’s important to be mindful that monetary donations aren’t the only way you can give back. There are a variety of ways to contribute to the valuable work that our non-profits are doing day in and day out, all year long. While funds will often be allocated to certain areas that are determined to be of importance, there are other needs that will arise throughout the year. This may be a donation of items or hosting a donation drive, volunteering, sponsorships, participating in special events, helping to raise awareness, and so on.

As individuals, whether you offer your time, talents, or prefer to donate money or items to the cause, there’s always a need that can be met with whatever you have to give. Businesses also have the opportunity to encourage their employees to get involved, which unites everyone together for a worthy cause. Angels Among Us provides financial assistance to families whose children are battling pediatric cancer. Any family living in or being treated in Nebraska is eligible to apply.

Once approved, families are provided with $500 a month for 18 months to help them stay financially stable during treatment. Funds are paid directly to the creditor, which ensures that funds are used for their intended purpose.

When a child is diagnosed with cancer, a family’s life as they know it comes to an abrupt halt. Unfortunately, their monthly expenses do not. Since 2006, Angels Among Us has assisted over 350 families with $1.5 million in support.

For over 18 years, Domesti-PUPS (www. domesti-pups.org) has been supporting people in our local, regional and national communities through the assistance of animals. From therapy dogs in the classroom motivating children to excel in their learning environment to pet therapy visitations in nursing homes, hospitals, and assisted living centers, Domesti-PUPS pet therapy teams bring a bit of brightness through their furry encounters. Our service dog teams provide increased independence when paired with a disabled partner. These highly-skilled canines can turn on lights, provide balance and mobility, retrieve dropped items, bring a bottle of water from a refrigerator, respond to medical emergencies such as responding to a seizure or alerting to a diabetic high or low, and open doors both literally and figuratively. Some even provide lifesaving measures for their disabled partners.

The Metro Area Youth Foundation (MAYF) was formed in 2006 by a group of Omaha area Optimist Club members who wanted to do more for families and children experiencing cancer. The goal is to allow the families to focus on the children, not the money they owe by providing a short-term financial bridge. At the Heartland Hope Mission South Omaha and Millard food pantries, working poor families choose a week’s supply of nutritious groceries including milk, frozen meat, and fresh produce to prepare well-balanced meals at home.

But, we are more than a pantry. Clients also receive clothing, hygiene items, diapers, and access to a Client Service Specialist, who assists with SNAP (food stamp) applications and navigational services. Our Jobs Paths Program provides access to current job postings and on-site interviews with employers. Clients can also participate in financial classes, nutrition education, and a community garden. Our goals are to provide programming and wraparound services to prevent families from becoming homeless and to help people achieve or rebuild self-sufficiency.

Nebraska Community Foundation unleashes abundant assets, inspires charitable giving and connects ambitious people to build stronger communities and a Greater Nebraska.

Youth Emergency Services (YES) is the only nonprofit in Omaha with the sole mission to help homeless and nearly homeless in our community. Last year, YES provided support and services to a record number of 3,376 youth in the Omaha metro area. Many of these youth have been physically, emotionally or sexually abused, making it unsafe for them to return home. Without YES, these vulnerable young people cannot succeed independently.

Established in 1972, Santa Monica has been providing long-term residential ser vices to thousands of c hemicallydependent women, partnering with them on their journey to recovery. The program relies on the disciplines of the twelve step program of Alcoholics Anonymous® while incorporating mental health and trauma treatment along with life skills. Santa Monica provides food, shelter, rehabilitative counseling, job acquisition guidance, and re-socialization training. Santa Monica provides a Halfway House program, followed by a ¾ way house program and transitional apartment living. This approach to step-down levels of care for the women, provide a more holistic continuum of care. These services will give the women more support as they transition back into the community. Donations are always valued at Santa Monica and the women benefit from toiletries, clothing, and paper products.

YES offers a full continuum of care to ensure all youth receive the support they need, no matter their situation. This includes a Street Outreach Center, Emergency Shelter, Transitional Living Program and Maternity Home. Throughout these programs, we offer case management, job readiness classes, group activities, support for the LGBTQ+ community, and specialized services for trafficked victims.

The Nebraska Wildlife Federation (NEWF) is a statewide non-profit organization dedicated to the preser vation and protection of Nebraska’s wildlife and habitat. We promote this through clean energy, conser vation far ming, growing certified wildlife habitats, and education. NEWF co-authored the Husker Power Plan (with the help of committee members from Nebraska conservation groups), which we hope the three major utilities in Nebraska will use as a template to increase their use of renewable energy and lowering their carbon footprint. Open Door Mission is a Gospel Rescue Mission founded in 1954 committed to breaking the cycle of homelessness and poverty. Each day, Open Door Mission’s campus offers 816 safe, shelter beds to homeless men, women and children, serves over 2,100 nutritious meals and provides homeless preventive measures to more than 1,000 people living in poverty.

Childhood cancer is severely underfunded and misunderstood.

Kids Can! Community Center’s mission is to educate, engage, and inspire children through early childhood care and out-of-school experiences. Kids Can! serves children 18 months to 13 years old. Outlook Nebraska is a nonprofit organization dedicated to positively impacting everyone who is blind and visually impaired. Outlook helps anyone dealing with vision loss find the resources they need, learn how to use technology to stay independent, find out about employment opportunities and stay active through recreation and cultural activities.

We provide free training on computers, smartphones, and other devices to any members of the community with vision loss. We collaborate with other organizations to provide recreational and cultural activities for the blind. More than 60% of Outlook’s associates are legally blind and utilize an array of innovative low vision technologies. Others work in administrative departments such as sales, accounting, and marketing.

Outlook Nebraska is the only agency of its kind in a seven-state area.

From the moment of diagnosis through end of life, Project Pink’d, Inc. provides tools, resources, and a strong network to strengthen and renew the mind, body, and spirit of breast cancer survivors in our local community. In 2017, we had the honor and privilege of impacting the lives of over 2400 breast cancer survivors in 26 counties throughout Nebraska and Western Iowa.

Those diagnosed with breast cancer often face challenges related to finances, anxiety, depression and sexual wellness, self-esteem and strained relationships with family. This is WHY Project Pink›d focuses on quality of life AFTER a breast cancer diagnosis. Our programs focus on improving the quality of life for survivors, providing support for survivors› emotional, physical, and financial well-being.

For more than 140 years, Heartland Family Service has been the area leader in creating the path to a better tomorrow for children and families. The Fellowship of Christian Athletes’ (FCA) purpose and passion is “Advancing the Gospel, in sport, through transformational leaders.” In order to do this, we must adhere to our strategy of “to and through the coach.” In other words, disciple coaches to be disciple-makers.

Billy Graham once said, “A coach will impact more young people in a year than the average person does in a lifetime.” We’ve seen this to be true. The average coach spends approximately 1,000 hours of face-to-face time with a student-athlete each year. We want these coaches to feel equipped and empowered in their engagement with their athletes, prepared to be there for their students, not just on the field or in the locker room, but in daily life.

Midlands Latino Community Development Corporation (MLCDC) provides Latinos and low-income individuals with opportunities to generate economic growth by providing financing products, development services and community development that advances their ability to develop a sustainable future in the Midlands.

The top programs the organization provides are Business Development, Childcare creation, Micro-lending and Financial Capability programs. We have been serving the community for about 10 years with these programs.
