SPARK Program at Prairie Meadows
Imagine a program specially designed for seniors living with dementia that not only strives to help them reach their full potential, but also provides an opportunity for them to spend their days with a sense of joyful purpose.
SPARK was inspired by the teachings and research of Maria Montessori and Dr. Cameron Camp and provides meaningful and life-enhancing experiences for people with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.
The program focuses on engaging residents with proven rehabilitative strategies that strive to heighten interaction, optimize cognitive skills as well as promote a sense of purpose and accomplishment despite what deficits may be present.
What is the Objective of the SPARK™ Program?
The objective of SPARK is to bring joy and a genuine sense of meaning and accomplishment to seniors’ everyday lives. Residents are encouraged to participate in a wide range of activities based on their personal interests and abilities. Whether it be working in the garden, maintaining bird feeders, dancing, attending Yoga classes, visiting horse stables and interacting with animals, going on supervised walks in nature, or spending time with some wonderful pet therapy dogs, SPARK offers something for everyone.
In addition, one of the most popular programs is Culinary Club, where residents work directly with chefs, taking bus trips to gather ingredients and then preparing and cooking meals themselves to enjoy with one another.
These activities go way beyond what the average senior living community offers. They become important and meaningful parts of the lives of residents. Seniors in the SPARK program have also participated in other exciting activities like Reading Club, bowling outings, and even the opportunity to brew their own beer!
Through the SPARK program, it is a joy to see residents’ eyes light up when they take part in activities whether they be old favorites or something brand new.
If you would like to learn more about how your loved one living with dementia can fill their days with meaning and purpose through the award-winning SPARK program, Prairie Meadows would love to speak with you more about it. You are cordially invited to visit their beautiful property, take a tour, and meet their friendly and compassionate staff of caregivers.

Happy New Year from all of us here at Strictly Business!
A new year brings new opportunities, new beginnings, and the possibility of change. Things in our office have been changing quite a bit recently, but I find that exciting. Change isn’t always a bad thing, and the opportunity to improve is always something to strive for. No matter what your plans are for the year, we hope 2023 brings you success, happiness, and lasting memories.
In regards to the New Year, we all put together our own resolutions for 2023!
This year I want to focus on embracing the changes we’ve made, and empowering my team to continue growing and learning their role at Strictly Business . I want to help each of them reach their full and maximum potential and embrace all of the incredible talents they bring to the office.
On the personal side, I have two resolutions. The first is to travel more. I think we all wish we had more time to see the world, and I want to make sure I’m taking every opportunity I’m given to see a new place or spend time somewhere I love. My other resolution is something I think everyone can take with them into 2023. Gratitude. This year I want to take more time to show my friends and family how much I appreciate them and everything they do. It’s always wonderful to make someone feel appreciated.
Cemre: Resolutions always seem to slip away after about a week, so this year my main resolution is to keep working on my resolutions. This year I want to learn more new recipes, keep up with self-care, lower my screen time, and visit more restaurants in Lincoln. My husband and I just moved here in July so there are a ton of places we have yet to hit! If you have any suggestions I would be happy to hear them. Overall, I am looking forward to starting a new year with the Strictly Business team.
Tessa: I can’t believe we are at the beginning of a new year. These past few months working at Strictly Business have flown by and I am so excited for 2023. My resolutions this year are pretty basic. I want to cook more at home, get more exercise in, and read more books. I have a habit of buying books, but haven’t quite got around to the reading part. My sisters also got me a beginner guitar and guitar lessons for Christmas, so learning how to play the guitar will be a great hobby this year.
Abby: My New Year’s resolutions for 2023 are to take more time to read books and start a journal to learn more about myself and become more connected with myself. Journaling is a great way to process emotions and situations in your day to day life that may get swept under the rug usually. On the physical health side, I would like to go to the gym and get more exercise. That always seems to be on the top of everyone’s list at the beginning of the year but I hope to stick with it!
Derek: I usually avoid making New Year’s resolutions because I have a tendency to create unachievable goals. This year though, I believe that I’m in a better place to make goals that I can reach. My first would be to dedicate five hours a week to doing hobbies that I’ve cast aside because scrolling on my phone is less effort. I miss reading fiction, painting, drawing, and being outdoors. My grandmother was also recently diagnosed with dementia and that has shifted my focus towards cherishing the time I still have left with her and my other elderly family members. Between getting started in my career and settling into married life, it’s been a tough balance to strike, but making time for those family members is important to me. My last goal would be to expand my graphic design knowledge – whether that’s by taking classes locally, watching YouTube videos, or collaborating with other designers. In this field, you either adapt and grow, or you become stagnant. In a sense, that’s how I’m approaching all of my goals in 2023.
Let Strictly Business help you lock in your status as THE EXPERT in your industry, utilizing print, the internet, and social media. Find out how by contacting Paige at (402) 466-3330.

Better Business Bureau Shares New Year’s ResolutionTipsforSmallBusinesses
The Better Business Bureau is gearing up for 2023 with some words of advice for small businesses. Scaling and sustainability will continue to be the primary focus for any small business owner in 2023.
Here are five business New Year’s resolutions that you may want to consider:
1. Build a strong digital footprint – Aside from having a website, make sure you are building out a solid content marketing strategy that will help you create valuable content pieces that will drive engagement and sales.
2. Promote your business consistently –Rather than waiting for the holidays to push larger promotions, find ways that you can creatively promote your business throughout the year. This ensures that you stay top of mind for your target customers.
3. Personalize the entire buyer journey – The days of communicating “at” your target audience in hopes that they will buy from you are now a thing of the past. Know that 71% of consumers feel frustrated when a shopping experience is impersonal.
4. Embrace an effective technology stack – From social media to email marketing, know that every single piece of technology you leverage to communicate with your customers must effectively impact your business goals.
5. Reduce costs – Save money wherever you can without compromising quality. Reducing cost doesn’t mean that you focus merely on just overhead. There are various ways you can go about cutting back spending while also pushing for growth.

The main reason I selected Cornhusker Bank comes down to the people. They take a one-on-one approach with me as a person and a business, as opposed to the corporate feel of a transaction.

MEGAN
Megan Froehlich WEST GATE BANK
Meet Megan Froehlich, the VP business solutions officer at West Gate Bank.
Tell us a little about your business. - West Gate Bank is a local community bank. We are committed to serving our communities, while helping our customers and employees achieve their dreams. We have a multitude of products and services we offer to meet all your personal or business banking needs.
How did you get started in the business? - I guess some would call it fate and that working for a bank may have always in the cards for me. It started when I was little, like around four or so. I remember watching my mom come home from the bank, dressed in her fancy suits and high heeled shoes thinking that I wanted to be just like her when I grew up. I began working at the same family-owned bank as my mom throughout my college years. After graduation, my passions and education led me elsewhere but as fate would have it, I was given an opportunity to rejoin the financial world and the rest is history.
Tell us a little about your family. - My husband and I have three healthy, vibrant kids who keep us extremely busy.
What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? - Becoming a mother would have to be one of the biggest turning points in my life. For the first time in my life, it wasn’t only about me and my husband. There was a definite shift from selfcentered living to selfless living and the emotions you feel are equal parts exciting and terrifying.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - My favorite thing to do on a day off is to relax by the pool during the summer months or to organize closets and drawers at my house during the colder months.
Who inspires you? - My mom inspires me. She is selfless, considerate of others, and has always pushed me to be a better version of myself.
What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? - Some of the best advice that I received growing up is that no one owes you a thing. It’s up to you to find peace, happiness, and success. You must put the work in to find success in whatever you are doing and if you don’t, you only have yourself to blame. It’s up to you to find ways to overcome excuses and find a way to succeed. I find myself reciting this to my two older children now as they navigate school and extracurricular activities.
If you could have a super power, what would it be? - To be invisible.
What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? The last book I read was The 10X Rule by Grant Cardone. The author does a great job explaining the real reason why people succeed despite their background, genetic make-up, or personal connections. In his words, success stems from working ten times harder than anyone else.
What is your favorite movie? - The original Top Gun or Heathers .
What is your favorite TV show? - Currently, it has to be Yellowstone!
What is your favorite local restaurant? - Omaha has some of the best locally-owned restaurants so picking just one is extremely tough. I will name a few – Twisted Cork Bistro, V. Mertz, and Spencer’s all come to mind when I think of my favorite local restaurant. Stokes and Charred are also favorites.
If our readers would like to contact you, how should they do so? - (402) 758-8733; mfroehlich@westgate.bank; westgate.bank.
DANIEL
Daniel Ripa STRETCH ZONE LEGACYMeet Daniel Ripa, the general manager at Stretch Zone Legacy.
Tell us a little about your business. - Stretch Zone offers a simple, natural solution to your flexibility problems. Restricted range of motion can create many different, preventable problems. At Stretch Zone, movement is the medicine. Our Stretchers know exactly what you need in order to get you moving pain free once again.
How did you get started in the business? - After over a decade of private personal training, I found that what my clients loved most about the workouts was the assisted stretching at the end. Exercise, in my opinion, is as much about tuning up as it is toning up. Exercise should prepare your body for its daily challenges. Our stretch is the easiest exercise you can get. We do all the work while you kick back and enjoy all the benefits.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally?
- COVID had a large impact on both the health and the fitness industry. It also forced people to place a greater concern in their overall health and well being. As a professional personal trainer, I knew I had to find a way to help people in the ways they needed most. Getting people moving again! Stretch Zone was the perfect solution for me. It has introduced me to so many people in need of our help. It brings me joy to see just how much positive change we create for those we work with.
What has been your most important achievement professionally?
- Opening an instant success business in my hometown is my proudest accomplishment so far. In our first nine months of business in Omaha, we have consistently topped national charts. Our simple yet effective stretch is a huge hit. I am proud to lead the team as we deliver a customer experience that becomes the highlight of their week.
Tell us about your family. - I am the proud father of three boys ages 3, 7, and 9 years old. I enjoy doing household chores with them, coaching and playing sports, and teaching them about healthy lifestyle choices like exercise, eating right, and doing well in school. I believe being a father is a huge responsibility in a time where we lack strong male role models.
What is the most unique thing about you? - I competed in and won the Nebraska State Championship Men’s Classic Physique for two consecutive years. I believe I found a new hobby, and a way to promote my theories and practices that have helped people with their own fitness journeys.
Who inspires you? - I’m inspired by my grandfather Ted Bolamperti. He put himself through Creighton Dental School, ran a multiple-location dental practice in Omaha for over 50 years. He has dedicated his life to serving his family and community, as well as preserving and sharing the American-Italian Heritage Society and social club founded by himself, family, and friends over 40 years ago.
What is your best piece of advice? - Begin with the end in mind. Having a clear vision and purpose allows you to spend your time and energy on tasks that are productive, or at least not counterproductive to your success.
What is your favorite book? - Be Obessed or Be Average by Grant Cardone. It encourages you to spend your time and energy on tasks that align with your goals and personal purpose.

How did you get started in the business? - I got started back in 2009 after the 2008 recession hit and PayPal was hiring. It was the cool company everybody wanted to work for. I rose through the ranks pretty quickly as I was promoted every eight months there. In my last job, I won an iPad every month for eight months through a sales contest.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? - The biggest challenge I’ve faced professionally is being able to set a standard of expectations and the ability to keep everyone happy and satisfied. Humans are intangible, emotional creatures, so continuing to ask questions and keep constant connection with people in businesses have allowed me to work against that obstacle.
What has been your most important achievement professionally? My most important achievement professionally was working together with a business owner that was able to send one of his children to a university because of our partnership. What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? - One of my biggest turning points was when I was baptized in the Christian faith at 27 years old. A close second is the birth of my son. I did not grow up with a father, so it made it much more important to be able to raise him into a man. TYLER
Tyler
Pannell BELFOR PROPERTY RESTORATIONMeet Tyler Pannell, estimator at BELFOR Property Restoration.
Tell us a little about your business. - BELFOR Property Restoration is a commercial and residential property restoration company that works with insurance companies to rebuild and “restore” homes and business that have suffered any kind of catastrophe. We are a 24/7365 day open emergency response crew to help homeowners through traumatic experiences such as fire, water, wind, etc.
How did you get started in the business? - I got started when I was 19, as a fresh faced kid who thought he knew everything. Quickly I was brought to the real world and got taught the realities of the construction industry. Starting out as a tech and later rebuilding homes, I’ve gathered the much needed experience to be set up for success in an estimator role.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? - The biggest challenge I’ve faced is adapting to an office setting. As someone who’s spent a majority of their career out in the field, the mental switch to the opposite has had its challenges.
What has been your most important achievement professionally? - As someone who’s been in the industry for the past 10 years now, I believe the most important achievement myself and others in my shoes have made would be to climb that ladder and truly make a career. Starting so young the only thing you’re looking for is a paycheck, and starting as the low man on the pole makes it easy to get stuck in that role. From many hours and hard work I’m happy to say I’ve found my career.
Tell us a little about your family. - My family consists of my girlfriend, Heather, who works as a therapist and our three dogs, Rusty, Arlo, and Kora.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - Being in construction you’d think I would like to go home and not go near a drill or hammer, but I really enjoy doing work around the house, whether that be small little things or finishing my basement.
What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? - My favorite quote comes from a movie called Whiplash with J.K Simmons and Miles Teller. It’s about a drummer at a high end music conservatory with a brutal instructor who said, “There are no two words in the English language more harmful than ‘good job’.” This quote stuck with me as it means complacency is the halt of progress, which can be applied anywhere in life.
If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? - I would choose to be a history teacher, and maybe do some coaching as well.
What is your favorite movie? - I have many favorite movies and it’s tough to pin one down, but I love history and time period films. One I’ve recently watched is called All Quiet on the Western Front on Netflix. It’s set in Germany during WW1 and the language is all German, but it’s a good depiction of the brutal realities of that war. What is your favorite local restaurant? - My favorite would be Stella’s Grill. It’s a small award-winning burger place in Bellevue. My recommendation, even though it sounds crazy, would be to add jalapeños and peanut butter to your burger. Life-altering stuff.
- (402) 891-1300; www.belfor.com/en/us/belfor-usaoffices/nebraska/omaha.

How did you get started in the business? - In my sophomore year of high school, I read an article about the current state of the environment. It was my call to action to take steps to help protect and rehabilitate the environment for generations in the future.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally?
- The biggest challenge in my professional career is the everchanging regulations and the effects politicians and advocates have on regulations.
What has been your most important achievement professionally?
- The most important achievement in my career is to see the effects of my work on the environments.
Tell us a little about your family. - I am a father of three, one freshman in high school, one seventh grader, and one fourth grader. I am married to my beautiful wife who works for the State of Nebraska. We live in Bennington. Our daily routine consists of taking our kids to different extracurricular activities.
What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? The biggest turning point in my life was the day my children were born. What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? - Being around my family watching my children play sport or hunting with my children.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? - I have done some type of environmental work in 44 of the 50 states.
Who inspires you? - My family inspires me. They push me to improve myself every day.
If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? - Passionate.
What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? - My ability to communicate in a manner that my team and my client understand. I would also add that I have a questioning thought process that helps look at project in a way to ensure that everything is accounted for and is in complete compliance.

COMPREHENSIVE PEDIATRIC DENTAL CARE
How to Care for Your Child’s Teeth By Age with Pediatric Dental Specialists
BIRTH TO 6 MONTHS
Even before your child starts teething, setting a good oral health routine is important. Keeping the gums healthy will help prevent tooth decay when their first precious pearly whites start coming in. You can begin your baby’s oral health routine by gently cleaning their gums with a warm washcloth and water after each feeding. Gently massage their gums with your index finger to rinse away any remaining sugars from milk (and a gum massage for a teething baby will surely be welcomed). Do not give your baby a bottle during bedtime. This will let sugars sit on their teeth for extended periods of time. Teething babies will enjoy cold teething rings or cold, wet washcloths which are great ways to both cleanse their gums and provide some teething pain relief. Did you know that the bacteria that causes dental decay (cavities) can be transmitted from person to person? It’s true, so avoid using your mouth to test bottle temperature or clean a pacifier.
6 TO 12 MONTHS
At this stage, your baby is starting to eat non-milk based foods and may even sprout some teeth. Continue to gently massage their gums with a wet washcloth after each meal. When their first tooth erupts you can begin to brush with a soft bristle toothbrush—do not use toothpaste yet. After the 12 month mark, your baby will start getting more nutrition from foods, and you can begin to wean from the bottle if you choose to and introduce sippy cups. Make sure you’re familiar with the normal appearance of your baby’s teeth and gums. If you notice white or brown spots or anything unfamiliar, that may indicate decay so contact our office for an appointment with your pediatric dentist in Omaha.
12 TO 18 MONTHS
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and Pediatric Dental Specialists in Omaha agree that your child should have their first dental visit by the time they turn one, or when their first tooth erupts, whichever is first. By this age, your child will be eating a regular diet of nutrient-dense food and should be drinking formula, breastmilk, or no-sugar-added juices from a cup. Your child will likely have several teeth at this point so we recommend brushing with a small smear of fluoride toothpaste twice daily to establish a good oral health routine and to get your child used to the routine. If you haven’t yet scheduled your child’s first dental appointment, contact and our helpful team will find a time that works for you at our Omaha location.

BIA-NE Emphasizes the Need for Resource Facilitation in the Workplace
The Brain Injury Alliance of Nebraska (BIA-NE) is committed to creating better futures for all Nebraskans through brain injury prevention, education, advocacy, and support.
According to data gathered for the Nebraska Brain Injury Registry, an average of nearly 14,000 people are hospitalized by a traumatic brain injury each year. Sadly, these numbers don’t account for injuries resulting from strokes, aneurysms, infections, or undiagnosed concussions. With these numbers, it is increasingly probable that many people in the workforce have experienced a brain injury. From a construction accident to simply banging one’s head against a filing cabinet, a brain injury can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere.
The effects of a brain injury are not as obvious as some may think and affect employees’ job performance in ways like problems focusing, memory issues, and sensitivity to light, sound, and other environmental conditions. However, with proper accommodations, these individuals can thrive just as well as an employee without a brain injury.
The Brain Injury Alliance of Nebraska’s resource facilitation team can assist businesses and organizations in supporting their employees as they adjust to changes resulting from brain injury. This support can range from providing recommendations for workplace accommodations to working with employees to develop individualized coping strategies or offering education and training to reduce stigma about brain injury.
To learn more about the Brain Injury Alliance of Nebraska and to connect with a resource facilitator, email info@biane.org or call (402) 890-0606. You can find more information at biane.org.

The exhibit highlights the department’s civil rights origins, attempts to downgrade the department to a program, and the mutual engagement between campus and community. The banners share archival materials such as newspaper clippings, department documents, and photos chronicling events from the 1969 campus sit-in, to the celebration of the “Omaha 54” student activists 52 years later. Project Harmony Shares Free Training Course for Keeping Kids Safe Online
Project Harmony is offering a free online safety training course for parents, caregivers, and educators throughout the month of January. Did your child receive a new technology device this holiday season? For some, this is the first time they have access to texting, downloading music, taking and receiving photos, instant messaging, social media apps, watching videos, and more. In addition, they have access to cyberbullying, meeting strangers, and talking to people who are not necessarily who they say they are. That’s a lot of access at the tip of our children’s fingers.
It is no surprise that the internet has changed the way our children interact with the world. According to Pew Research Center, teens are increasingly sharing information through social media.
• 91% post a photo of themselves
• 71% post their school name
• 71% post the town where they live
• 53% post their email address
• 20% post their cell phone number
Sharing this kind of information makes it easy for online perpetrators to seek out potential victims, gather personal information, and make contact.
If your child is subjected to inappropriate content, cyberbullying, or even sextortion, make sure they know they are not at fault. We have learned that if a child thinks they will be punished for receiving inappropriate content or cyberbullying – they will not tell a trusted adult. Talk to your child, collect evidence (emails, texts, screenshots of social media posts, etc), and contact the police if physical threats are involved.
To register for Project Harmony’s training or to learn more, please visit www.ProjectHarmony.com/training.

Sponsorship opportunities are available for this event. CUES Schools anchor their east Omaha neighborhoods and provide a safe place for students to learn academic, social, and interpersonal skills.
Many CUES families face difficult financial circumstances and simply cannot afford to pay tuition. They choose CUES Schools to give their children a high quality, faith-based education. CUES students thrive in a culture of love, kindness and excellence.
The cost to educate one child is $11,990. The Gathering helps underwrite these costs. This year’s event will feature a guest speaker and live auction. Kelly and Britt Thedinger, MD are the 2023 Gathering chairs.
Event sponsorships provide CUES students with a values-based education and the family support they need. View available sponsorships at cuesschools.org, or email Trish at trish@cuesschools.org.

Tips for Buying Land from NEBRASKA REALTY
Looking for raw land? Undeveloped land, often called raw land, is a vacant area without any public utilities, buildings, or even driveways. Often, undeveloped land is in rural areas found off county roads and could be the place to build your forever home.
Nebraska is the 16th largest state in the United States with a total land area of more than 76,000-square-miles. However, it lies in 37th in terms of population, with less than 2 million people currently calling the Cornhusker State home. That means, of course, that there is a large amount of raw land in the state, perfect for prospective buyers looking to move to or invest in land in Nebraska.
LOCATION IS AN IMPORTANT CONSIDERATION
Location is always of the utmost importance when buying land, whether you are planning to build on it, farm it, or for any other reason. The location is the one thing that you are unable to change so take your time to find the most advantageous area for your plans.
CONSIDER ZONING RESTRICTIONS
Zoning refers to regulations that allow local government to regular which areas may have real or land used for specific purposes. It’s easy to find the zoning restrictions that exist in the area you are considering buying raw law, by checking at the local zoning office. It’s also important to understand any future plans the local government may have for a particular area, such as if there are plans to build a highway that bisects the land.
CONSIDER THE ADDITIONAL COSTS
Buying raw land is an investment of time and money. The exact plans you have for the land will determine the amount of money needed to realize your plans.
When establishing your budget, don’t simply factor in the purchase price of the raw land. If you are planning to build one or more properties on the land, it’s critical that you are aware of the expenses associated with this aspect of your project.
HELP IS AT HAND
It’s highly recommended that you partner with an experienced and local real agent company to help you find the most suitable vacant land for your plans. In Nebraska, you can count on Nebraska Realty.
They have almost 30 years of experience in Nebraska and Southwest Iowa and have an acute understanding of the land market. Nebraska Realty is here to help you every step of the way when purchasing raw land.
BUYING RAW LAND IN NEBRASKA
NR Land was created under the expert guidance and experience of landfocused agents that have been in the business for years. They bring decades of relationship-building foundations, selling expertise, and marketing techniques to every sale, and they are dedicated to helping Nebraskans get the best price for their land. Whether it’s farms, ranch acreages, or recreational land, their agents have the knowledge and understanding to buy and sell the property without hassle.
Nebraska Realty harnessed the experience of these great agents and partnered them with the resources to be even more successful. With the largest online presence of any Nebraskan brokerage, NR Land will get your property exposed and marketed to a huge range of potential buyers.
New Year’s resolutions are great tools for improving on things that may have been pushed aside for one reason or another, or for picking up a new hobby to try.
If you are struggling to decide on what you want your New Year’s resolutions to be this year, we have compiled a few that we think could improve anyone’s life!
1. Say ‘Yes” More
It’s always tempting to turn down opportunities, due to a fear of failing or looking silly. This year, make a resolution to say ‘yes’ to any exciting opportunity that presents itself, no matter how scary it is. Once you say yes once, you’ll look forward to any opportunities that come your way.
2. Improve Your Work-Life Balance
We all hear people talk about work-life balance a lot, but it’s important to consider whether you’re actually putting it into action and making it a priority. Without a good work-life balance, you’re more likely to experience burnout, which impacts your productivity at work, and overall satisfaction in your life.
3. Read New Books
Reading can give us a new and fresh perspective on so many things. Whether the book is focused on your specific industry, or a completely different field that you’re looking to gain more knowledge in, there’s definitely no harm in picking up a good book and obtaining new knowledge. Reading a book takes time, though, so set yourself a goal to read a new book each month if this is better-suited to your schedule.
4. Find a Mentor
What is the harm from learning from someone who has already been in your shoes? Mentoring is a great way to not only progress in your career, but on a personal level too. The right mentor can give you a foot in the door into new roles, provide strategic support and guidance, boost your confidence, and help you to stand out from your competition.
5. Attend a Professional Event
Networking events are the perfect chance to connect with other professionals in your industry. Not only this, but they can help you to keep up to date with the latest trends in your sector, meet new connections, and learn about new opportunities that could be valuable for your career. If you feel nervous, you can even start by dipping your toe in the water with an online event and working your way up to an in-person event in your local area.
It’s no secret that New Year’s resolutions are often ditched at some point in the year, so we visited with some local Omaha businesses to learn what advice they had for those who want to really stick with their 2023 goals.
Stick to It
Health goals don’t always involve working out and striving to achieve better fitness of the body. Sometimes all we need is to get our body back to its natural state after an injury or medical procedure. It can be a process that takes time, and one that requires tenacity and persistence to achieve your desired results.
See The Trainer has been the area’s leading soft goods, rehabilitation, and bracing products provider since 1996. See The
Trainer only provides the highest quality of orthopedic, durable medical, and rehabilitation products available. Their team loves teaching their patients about their injuries and finding the right product just for them. They encourage you to come in so that you can be properly fit with a product and can ask any questions that you may have.
“We have products for common injuries – whether it’s plantar fasciitis, an injured ankle, carpal tunnel, tennis elbow, or more – so that you can quickly recover and get back to your regular routine,” shared Owner Kristie Egan . “If exercise is being newly incorporated into your lifestyle, then you may run into some obstacles as you adjust and learn the best approach for you. This is where we can help you out. We carry products to help you protect yourself while exercising and recover afterwards.”
Kristie has been with See The Trainer for 14 years and started out with intentions to keep it temporary, but it turned into a life-long career that she is very passionate about. She has since bought the company from the previous owner and is excited to carry on the journey. Not only is See The Trainer locally- and women-owned and operated, but it is also locally sourced. See The Trainer has been partnering with Nebraska Cancer Specialists’ Occupational Therapy program in Legacy and has become their new “go-to” for sending patients to get medical compression garments.
With her extensive background of seeing people start their rehabilitation journey, Kristie knows her way around setting a goal. She had some advice for those ready to make any kind of resolution this year.
“One challenge with New Year’s resolutions is that people often set unrealistic goals. They can quickly become frustrated and give up,” said Kristie. “Any resolution to change or improve needs to include small goals that are definable and accompanied by a solid plan on how you’ll get to that goal.”
Next, Kristie advises, develop an action plan. The experts at See The Trainer can help you segment your recovery and rehabilitation to make sure that nothing feels overwhelming. The same can be said for any other resolution. If you want to lose weight, try cutting out the snack you usually have after work before you try to completely revitalize your daily menu. Once you have tackled that, you’ll be able to see how easy it is to make these smaller adjustments.
It Takes a Village
No stranger to fitness, Daniel Ripa , sales and marketing specialist at Stretch Zone Legacy , has been helping people reach their goals for over a decade. Stretch Zone offers the easiest way to increase your flexibility and range of motion. Many people want to exercise to lose weight for the new year, but limited flexibility or pain makes it difficult to start and many fall off the fitness band wagon.
“Working as a Personal Trainer and Fitness Coach for over a decade I have helped hundreds of people start their fitness journeys,” said Daniel. “I would say the ones that are most successful do not do it alone. I know many people want to “DIY” their fitness goals, but working with an expert can save you so much time in the long run.”
Stretch Zone has shared their own ideology of “the stretch” to anyone and everyone looking to become their healthiest version, prevent injuries, and improve recovery and performance on the daily. Since
1-on-1 assisted stretching natural pain relief regain your natural range of motion
2009, professional athletes have gone to Stretch Zone to incorporate the franchise’s systems and equipment within their training. However, you don’t have to be a sports star to use Stretch Zone’s services! Stretch Zone was designed to help anyone looking to improve their mobility through enhanced circulation and the creation of a more ideal resting muscle tone.
“I, like many trainers, have always coached better form and mechanics so that people would best benefit from exercise,” Daniel explained. “Stretch Zone’s assisted stretching can improve your range of motion, helping you get even more out of the work you are doing.”
Daniel shares the same sentiment as Kristie when it comes to sticking to goals. When setting a new goal, start by making it as easy as possible to follow through. If you don’t make it easy to start, you most likely will not finish. The old saying “work smarter, not harder” applies here. An expert in fitness can help you figure out what exactly is hindering you from reaching your goal.
Visit Stretch Zone in Legacy Plaza for your free stretch and consultation and see just how easy it is to get in better shape, reduce pain, and increase performance with their Practitioner Assisted Stretching Methods.

Aaron Newell, president and CEO of AR Solutions, shared some advice on tackling debt and creating a positive plan for the year.
“Really evaluate your business financials from the prior year(s),” shared Aaron. “Are you scaling as projected? If not, why and what can you do to change it? How does your percentage of accounts receivables compare to your industry standards geographically? Have your accounts receivables changed, remained the same, or grown in comparison to your gross revenue? AR Solutions can provide an analysis of your data and customer intake process to accelerate the payment of your past due receivables.” AR Solutions has a division that specializes in medical collections, as well as other divisions that specialize in consumer collection and commercial collections. Find People to Lean On
Sometimes the best advice we can get is from people who have experienced the same things we are currently going through. Center Sphere is an established network of business
“At Center Sphere we believe that relationships will always be essential in businesses,” said CEO and Co-Founder Brett Boyer. “Those who have built, and are continuing to build, relationships with others always have greater odds of accomplishing their goals. The best time to build a network was ten years ago, the second best time is now!”
While creating a support system and learning from experienced peers can be a great help, the world of business is ever changing. Many obstacles you may run into are products of the time, and many people may be experiencing them for the first time along with you.
“The scope of business has changed dramatically over the past few years, and will always evolve,” Brett explained. “Making sure you understand how those changes have affected your business and your plan for it is important when reviewing and setting goals for 2023.”
As we all have been affected by rapid inflation and rise in cost of doing business, Center Sphere offers an extremely cost effective way to budget your marketing expenses throughout the year. They believe in increasing their value add for members while keeping the point of entry at a minimum.
If you’re looking for a great start to hitting your goals in 2023, take advantage of all Center Sphere has to offer!
Work with Experts Who Care
Getting advice from your peers can be a great tool, but finding an expert that can see your goals and help you realize them takes things to another level.
Fiserv enables money movement for thousands of financial institutions and millions of people and businesses. They help you make smart decisions and set realistic goals financially. We spoke to Senior Sales Advisor Dan Rau to learn more about the services Fiserv has to offer, and the bits of advice you need to take your business into 2023.
“My greatest value add to a business is my vast network and expertise and experience in Financial Technology (FinTech) solutions,” explained Dan. “My income and success is directly connected to the growth and success of my clients and portfolio. My network allows businesses easier opportunities to build long lasting partnership and vendor relationships.”
Finding the small ways that could be saving your business money is one of the things Daniel knows best. He shared a tip with us for businesses headed into the New Year that are trying to save an extra buck. “Businesses now more than ever can gain back all, some, or none of their fees with merchant processing,” Daniel said. “Merchant processing fees are tax deductible operating costs, so passing the 3-4% fee to customers when inflation is set this time at 7.7% allows the business to increase deductions while paying less or zero in merchant processing fees.”
One thing Dan expressed is something that everyone can take with them into the New Year.
“I will end with a quote from Muhammad Ali, ‘Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth,’” shared Dan. Remember to take care of the people around you this year!
Have a Bank on Your Side
We all know that there isn’t a big reset button that starts the New Year off on a clean slate. In order to be truly prepared for the year to come, business owners must start planning before the clock strikes midnight on January 1.
West Gate Bank is prepared to jump into another year helping businesses be successful and achieve their greatest dreams. They can’t do it on their own, though.
“My advice for businesses is to start planning early and check-in often on progress. Running a business requires deliberate planning and getting crystal clear on goals/objectives to accomplish. Know your numbers, be proactive, and surround yourself with the best. Know exactly what you are earning, saving, and spending. Look for ways to improve cash flow, increase savings, boost revenue, and put profit first,” shared Lindsey Kirkendall, assistant vice president, business banking solutions. “With 18 years banking experience and linking arms with businesses on financial initiatives, it is important to surround yourself with a network of professionals that support current goals or determine next steps on how to get there in 2023. We have several local connections we know, utilize, trust, and can recommend to you!”
As for how 2023 is looking, Lindsey had some knowledge on what to expect and how to handle the upcoming obstacles that the year may bring.
“The rate environment is ever-changing. Secure deposits at a competitive interest rate and understand that lending efforts for banks are likely to be more conservative,” said Lindsey. “Proactively plan, set SMART goals, and have a banker and bank on your side!”
Reach New Heights
Lincoln Federal Savings Bank (Member FDIC. Equal Housing Lender.) provides customers the services that they need to achieve. Derek Wiedenfeld, commercial real estate loan officer, shared his tips for creating a successful year for you and your business.
“Set goals for 2023 that align with your company’s vision and longterm goals. It is important to review those goals quarterly to hold you accountable and make any adjustments that are needed throughout the year,” advised Derek. “Keep yourself and employees motivated while trying to reach those goals and don’t forget to celebrate reaching milestones along the way.”
Derek’s services can be useful for those looking to expand this year. Lincoln Federal Savings Bank has commercial pad sites for sale, and can assist with the construction and/or permanent financing of the real estate.
As the markets continue to change, it’s important that your business is prepared. There are methods and tools that you can use to avoid turmoil down the road.
“Stress test your business! It is important to understand if your business can operate as normal with higher volatility in the market,” said Derek. “Test your business income against higher interest rates which could increase your loan payments and project lower than anticipated sales/rents and higher expenses to see if you would still be profitable. There may be smaller profit margins in 2023 so make sure to set up a contingency plan.”
While many of your business’s goals may not involve financials, Derek and the team at Lincoln Federal Savings Bank can help you. With anything from securing commercial real estate financing to offering great small business checking and savings accounts!
“Interest rates on deposit accounts have been increasing. Pairing a checking account with a loan at the same bank can have some benefits,” Derek explained. “When you have all of your accounts in the same place then it’s easier to keep track of your assets and manage your accounts. In addition, opening a deposit account may help you qualify for better loan terms.“
Research Your Resources
Setting goals for the upcoming year can only go so far if you are unwilling to accept change. It is important to be committed
to your company’s process and environment, but allow some room for innovation and growth. If the way you are doing something is hindering your ability to reach a goal, don’t change the goal. Find a new way to get there.
With FNIC Group, they believe the smallest changes to a process can have the biggest impacts. They will keep a careful eye on your business’s insurance coverage to uncover possible improvements.
“At FNIC, our process is simple. We study your current insurance policies to pinpoint potential gaps in coverage and educate you on how your policy works,” said Sales Executive Ramon Diaz de Leon. “Understanding your policy can help you make informed decisions on risk retention vs risk transfer.”
Ramon also pointed to the option for businesses that may need extra help from a resource like a workers’ compensation carrier.
“Before joining the commercial insurance team at FNIC, I worked for a workers’ compensation carrier that specialized in small to mid-sized, labor-intensive businesses. I have seen the amount of resources available that are often overlooked. Many carriers provide help with weekly safety meetings, ideas for return to work programs, and strategies for experience rating containment to share a few,” Ramon explained. “Spend time with your insurance agent and see how their organization can also help you with these items. Having these types of processes in place will not only help you in controlling insurance costs, but will lead to the development of a culture of safety within your business. The resources are out there. Start today!”
FNIC GroupFNIC is ready to help you implement your processes and coverages in 2023!
Keep Track of What’s Important
Forgetfulness is a trait we all can relate to at one point or another. Forgetting your keys before heading out the door, missing a dentist appointment, or leaving an important item for the day at home are all things that can mess up your day, but overall don’t cause much harm. Forgetting to keep track of your business’s financials, on the other hand, will create a world of hassle for your business and a huge headache for you.
Omaha Bookkeeping is ready to help your business succeed in 2023 by keeping your business organized throughout each month with the financial transactions that occur. With their help, your business will be able to see a good financial picture and performance of the company at any given time throughout the year. Outsourcing bookkeeping duties may also save money in the long run by finding the partner that fits your business culture. Bookkeepers may also find ways to improve your process and identify areas where you may be overspending. They may also help to take advantage of bookkeeping software to help automate tasks, again saving time and money.
“I would make sure your business communicates with a tax professional and their accounting/bookkeeping department to make sure all of your tax-related expenses are accounted for,” said Jeff Doering, owner of Omaha Bookkeeping. “It is important to stay on top of account reconciliations and recording and classifying every financial transaction of the business. That’s where my services come in. Keeping and logging the proper backup documents of each financial transaction will make tax process go a lot smoother.”
You want to be ready for tax season when it rolls around, and there is no better way to ensure your business is prepared than with the help of Omaha Bookkeeping. They are dedicated to keeping you on track financially, so that you can reach your goals with ease.

When it comes to making a positive plan for your company in the New Year, Todd had some advice.
“Choose your biggest pain or challenge and make it your number one goal to fix. For example, team retention, culture, organization, production, or transparency to your team,” said Todd. EServ’s operational software can help you iron out the kinks of your business plan. This will help you identify what needs improvement, what is working, and what should be left out entirely.
“Too often business owners settle for operating software that cannot meet their needs. Common results include the use of multiple programs, increased errors, user confusion, and overall lack of production. Choosing a Small Business Operation Software™ is a big decision. Eserv will improve your customer experience and increase your net profit.”
Courage is the Currency to Success

With the constantly changing dynamics of the economy, it requires a considerable amount of courage to battle all the urgent changes within the market, while trying to keep your company stable against the strange tides of the industry.

At Strictly Business, we believe it is so important to support our local nonprofits. Nonprofit organizations understand the needs of the most vulnerable in our community and work to help support causes many of us connect to. Not only do local nonprofits help enrich Nebraskan life, but they also create jobs and give workers, volunteers, and donors an opportunity to be a part of something greater than themselves. When we pitch in to help nonprofits, we’re helping our communities and neighbors and keeping a culture of humanity, art, and philanthropy alive.
In this Supporting Nonprofits feature, we’re highlighting a host of Omaha’s most impactful nonprofits, and we are grateful for the opportunity to share their stories and promote the work they do throughout the year. We encourage our readers to keep these nonprofits top-of-mind when choosing how to give, whether it’s money, time, or skill.

Angels Among Us provides financial and emotional support to families whose children are battling pediatric cancer. Any family living in or being treated in Nebraska is eligible to apply. Once approved, families are provided with $500 or $750 a month, depending on household income levels, for the length of their entire treatment plan, up to three years, to help them stay financially stable during treatment. Funds are paid directly to the creditor, which ensures that funds are used for their intended purpose.
In addition to financial support, Angels Among Us launched 11 emotional support programs to provide wrap-around services for all members of the pediatric cancer family. Programs for teens, kids, siblings, and caregivers; events for the family to attend together; and bereavement support services are now offered. Research has shown that, along with the financial toxicity many families experience during a cancer journey, there are PTSD-like symptoms that also appear within the family. These emotional support programs allow Angels Among Us to better fulfill its mission of BOTH financial and emotional support.
Since 2006, Angels Among Us has assisted over 620 families with over $4 million in support. There are angels among us. Will you be one? Gifts of any amount are welcome and encouraged. Mosaic in Omaha’s purpose is to “love and serve,” and its mission is to “embrace God’s call to relentlessly pursue opportunities to empower people.” The values woven through our work to serve those with intellectual and developmental disabilities and others with diverse needs are Belonging, Connection, Faithfulness, and especially Grit during these challenging times.
“To empower” at Mosaic means helping those we serve achieve their best or most meaningful life by providing truly specialized services to help them achieve their goals and dreams; working with those we serve to have closer ties to the community to open up volunteer and employment opportunities for them; and Mosaic standing alongside those we serve to advocate with and for them to bring awareness to issues that affect their lives and promote public policy that positively impacts them.
This empowerment of people we support ranges from helping someone communicate for the first time to helping another gain enough independence to secure a job and live in their own home. If you would like to learn more or to donate, please visit www. mosaicinfo.org/locations/nebraska/omaha.
