FROM THE DESK OF THE CEO/PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents and Guardians One of our cherished core values at Lusitania is “cultural diversity” and nowhere was this better demonstrated and brought to life than at our recent Africa Day language, food, music and dress festival. We highlighted the sixteen languages spoken in the various provinces of Zimbabwe, from Nambya to Ndau, Chewa to Kalanga. Each Grade produced outstanding oral and vocal performances using the languages of the different cultures, impressing everyone with their fluency and flair. To top this off, there were food stalls explaining traditional meals and styles of presentation with actual traditional meals served afterwards. The array of colourful African prints and dress on display was equally dazzling and a reminder of the unique artistry of Africa. It was a memorable occasion and we thank you all for your support as parents and friends. From an educational perspective, it underlines the holistic approach that we have at Lusitania in that we stress the importance

of understanding people from diverse and different backgrounds and respect for their values and beliefs. If we could all keep this goal in mind, the world would certainly be a happier place. Being a Lusophonic school, look out for our upcoming Portuguese Day theme taking place on Friday 9th June. This will further underline our embodiment of the idea of “cultural diversity”. Your support of your child(ren) is crucial to their success and well being as they fulfil their many obligations inside and outside of the classroom. Your support of the school is also very appreciated. Melhores cumprimentos Bill Annandale CEO “The Earth is a fine place and worth fighting for.” (Ernest Hemingway)

HEAD OF ACADEMICS DESK Dear Esteemed Parents and Guardians,

Important Dates

Firstly, I extend my heartfelt appreciation to all staff, students, and pupils for their exemplary efforts to make our recent Africa Day celebration a resounding success. The event was a testament to our school’s commitment to promoting cultural diversity and fostering a spirit of inclusivity amongst our students.

9 June 2023 Portuguese Day All parents are invited. 12-14 June Consultation Dates Further details will be sent from class teachers. 15 June Teachers and Parents Workshop 16 &19 June Staff Workshops

With great pleasure, I share the success of our supervised homework program, which we implemented at the beginning of this term. We are pleased to report that the program has received positive feedback from parents and students, and we are confident that it will continue to be an essential component of our academic program. The program is designed to ensure our students receive the necessary support to stay on track with their studies and achieve academic excellence. As part of our commitment to maintaining a high standard of discipline and order in our school, we would like to appeal to parents to ensure that their children’s uniforms are correctly labelled. This will help to reduce the incidence of lost items and make it easier to identify misplaced items. Additionally, we would like to remind parents of the importance of adhering to our school’s hair policy for girls. We kindly request that parents ensure that their daughters’ hairstyles are appropriate for school and in compliance with our school’s regulations. We have noticed with appreciation that some parents have been picking up their children early from school for various reasons. We encourage parents to continue supporting their children’s academic pursuits by ensuring they take advantage of core curricular activities. These activities are integral to our students’ holistic development and crucial to building their confidence and social skills. We want to remind parents of the upcoming consultation scheduled in two weeks’ time, where they will have an opportunity to meet with their child’s teacher and discuss their progress. It is an excellent opportunity for parents to get an insight into their child’s academic progress and address any concerns they may have. Furthermore, we encourage parents to attend the Parent-Teacher Conference, an important event in their children’s academic lives. For those on school fees payment plans, We would like to remind you that the first instalment of school fees for this term was due at the end of May. We appreciate those who have already made their payments on time. We want to remind those who have not yet paid that it is crucial to ensure that fees are paid promptly to avoid any inconvenience. Please get in touch with our accounts office for further details. The second instalment of school fees is due at the end of June. We kindly request that you make the necessary arrangements to settle your outstanding balances on time. Your cooperation in this matter is highly appreciated as it enables us to maintain our high education standard. In conclusion, we remain committed to providing quality education that creates a nurturing environment for our students to thrive. We appreciate your continued support and cooperation, which is essential in achieving our shared objective of academic excellence.
