From rails onto skis with ease and in comfort

Travelling by night train is probably the most comfortable and environmentally friendly way to travel to the Stubai Valley. After all, it takes less than 20 minutes to get to the Stubai Valley from Innsbruck’s main railway station. Giving you an extra day of skiing!

WITH THE NIGHTJET TO THE SNOW

The Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) and Stubai Glacier are offering a climate-friendly combination ticket (Kombiticket) for skiing holidays in Stubai. The Nightjet Kombiticket includes the return train journey on the ÖBB Nightjet (night train) from/ to Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Amsterdam or Vienna including seat reservation to Innsbruck, the ski pass and transfer to your chosen hotel in Stubai.

The first rays of sunlight flash through the curtains. Peeking through the window, you can already glimpse the snow-covered peaks of the Tyrolean Alps. The smells of coffee and fresh rolls fill the on-board restaurant. It can’t be much longer now. This is how relaxing and restful a holiday trip to the Stubai Valley can be. It’s true! Anyone setting off for Stubai by train is really on holiday from the very first moment. And that’s not all: according to the Austrian Federal Environment Agency, the distance and choice of transport account for the largest share of CO2 emissions as far as a holiday’s ecological footprint is concerned. Travelling to and from holiday by train comes out top, according to the study. So why not take the train.

INTERNATIONAL LONG-DISTANCE TRAINS AND NIGHTJET

International long-distance trains from everywhere stop in Innsbruck. There are direct connections from Berlin, Hamburg, Dortmund, Zurich or even Vienna, Zagreb, Verona and many more. This means that the Stubai Valley can also be reached directly, in comfort and in the shortest time by train. After all, the glacier valley is just a 20-minute journey from the provincial capital of Innsbruck. For example, it takes less than seven hours by train from Berlin or Cologne to the Stubai Valley, and only five from Vienna. So about the same speed as by car, only without any congestion. The journey is even more comfortable with the popular night train connections such as the “ÖBB Nightjet” or the UEX (www.nightjet.com or

www.urlaubs-express.de). So, get on the train in the evening in Hamburg, Hanover, Amsterdam or Düsseldorf, for example and arrive in the morning. If you like hit the slopes the same day!

SHUTTLE SERVICE TO THE STUBAI VALLEY

There is also a comfortable and convenient solution for the “last mile” from Innsbruck to the Stubai Valley. Many hosts pick up their guests at the main railway station and take them straight to their holiday home. Alternatively, guests staying overnight in the Stubai Valley receive a voucher from Stubai Tirol tourist office for one free use of the 590 bus route (Bus Stubai) or the Stubai Valley railway to get to and from the Stubai Valley from/to Innsbruck. COMPREHENSIVE SKI BUS NETWORK

In the glacier valley itself, guests are fully mobile even without a car as there is a well-scheduled ski bus system for transfers in the valley. Use of the ski bus is free of charge with a valid skipass or on presentation of the Stubai guestcard. The signs of the times in terms of local mobility were recognised in the Stubai Valley years ago. The cable car companies and tourism association invest lots of money every year in maintaining and expanding the comprehensive ski bus system and local public transport throughout the Stubai Valley, from Mutterberg via Neustift, Fulpmes, Telfes, Mieders to Schönberg. (The current bus timetables for winter 2022/23 can be found on pages 40–44)

BOOK HIRE EQUIPMENT ONLINE

Of course, it’s better to travel light. That is why more and more winter sports enthusiasts are taking advantage of the option to hire their sports equipment from Stubai sports shops. If you book online in advance, you save time and get the latest ski models, individually fitted and perfectly maintained, including boots and poles. The same applies to toboggans, cross-country skis, snowboards, ski touring equipment, etc.

SKI PASS AND SKI SCHOOL ONLINE

By the way, ski passes for the Stubai Glacier and Schlick 2000 as well as ski school courses at the Stubai ski schools can also be booked online.
