Adelaide Airport, also known as Adelaide International Airport, is the main airport in Adelaide in southern Australia and the fifth busiest airport in Australia. It is located near Xitan, about 6 km (3.7 miles) west of the city center.

Introduction:
Brief introduction Adelaide Airport is an international airport in Adelaide, the daily flow of people is huge, and the airport traffic is also growing. However, this brings a lot of troubles to the residents living around the airport. According to the survey, the airport receives dozens of complaints every year, which shows that the airport noise has brought great harm to the lives of residents.
My most important intention of studying this model is to express that the green plants around the airport can reduce the noise of the airport to a certain extent. In this PPT, I will describe and study these questions: -focus on the discussion of Adelaide Airport Noise, study which area is most affected by noise. -analyze the reason why this area is greatly affected by airport noise. -the influence on residents. -the effect of plants on noise absorption. -find a way to slow down the airport noise - using green plants to absorb a certain amount of noise, thus alleviating the inconvenience caused by airport noise to residents' lives.

Proposal:
In recent years, with the increase of population in Adelaide, people began to develop to the suburbs and build houses for people to live in. However, not all suburban areas are suitable for human habitation. Airport noise levels in Brooklyn Park and parts of West Richmond (near Adelaide Airport) are considered "unacceptable" according to Australian housing standards. Data show that people living near Adelaide Airport (especially near press Rd Brooklyn Park) are often disturbed by airport noise. Therefore, it is urgent to reduce and solve the noise problem of Adelaide Airport.
What can be done to reduce the impact of airport noise on nearby residents?

Audiences: Why does airport noise affect residents' lives
Resident A: the noise caused by aircraft take-off or landing often interrupts our normal family activities, such as talking and watching TV.
Resident B: airplanes that move at night make a lot of noise, which leads to a decrease in my sleep quality, which in turn leads to a decrease in my performance and attention level the next day.
Resident C: because I often live near the airport, I suffer from high blood pressure, heart disease and other diseases, and my immunity has decreased a lot.
(These results show that long-term exposure to aircraft noise will greatly affect the quality of life of residents nearby!)

Location: Adelaide Airport is located in a suburb of Torrens, west of downtown Adelaide. The suburbs were announced in 1991. Almost the entire suburb is occupied by Adelaide Airport and related businesses. On the west side of the suburb is the harbor city shopping center. There are many residential areas near Adelaide Airport, such as Brooklyn Park, West Richmond, Glenelg, netley, Hilton and mile end, etc. However, residents in different areas are affected by different noise levels. In my model, I will focus on why the press Rd Brooklyn Park area receives more noise than other areas.

Residential buildings: There are many residential buildings around Adelaide Airport. According to Australian housing standards, the airport noise level in Brooklyn Park and parts of West Richmond is considered "unacceptable". (West Richmond and Brooklyn Park are only suitable for "lowdensity" development and are mainly composed of independent houses.

Site analysis:
Vegetation area: There are many green plants (trees, grass, etc.) around press Rd Brooklyn Park, which can reduce the impact of airport noise (noise generated when aircraft take off and descend) on the area to a certain extent.
Ground: The ground is relatively flat, suitable for aircraft take-off and landing. In addition, flat houses are more stable, and the mood of the residents is more pleasant, and flat open land is often sunny, soft wind, suitable for living.

Site analysis: why Press Rd Brooklyn Park is more affected by airport noise Average daily noise events over 70dBA Noise monitors are shown below as solid purple circles. The figure appearing in each circle is the daily average number of noise events over 70 decibels (dBA) for the period selected.

Runway end use The figure below shows the percentage used at each end of the runway.

Analysis: Runway selection is based on weather conditions, wind direction, traffic volume and other factors. For safety and performance reasons, aircraft take off and land mainly in the wind. Therefore, with the change of wind direction, the running runway may also change according to the strength of wind. This means that Adelaide's seasonal wind pattern will affect the use of different runway directions.

January-March, 2020
Southerly winds prevail most of the year, which means runway 23 is the most frequently used . When the main runway is used in the southwest direction, it is called runway 23. The angle of runway 23 at the compass is 230 degrees. The planes that take off and land at runway 23 will pass over press Rd Brooklyn Park. Therefore, Press Rd Brooklyn Park will be more affected by airport noise than the surrounding area.
Planting green plants can not only beautify the environment and activate the atmosphere, but also purify the air and remove the harmful substances in the air. At present, according to research, planting green plants can also reduce noise.

Investigation: Why can plants reduce airport noise
The reason why plants reduce noise: sound propagation depends on sound wave expanding outward. When the sound wave touches the tree trunk, it breaks and scatters the sound wave. Moreover, the tree trunk is luxuriant and leafy, and the leaves are arranged in different shapes. It often swings with the wind, producing sound waves opposite to noise, which can offset the transmission energy of sound waves and weaken noise. In addition, the uneven structure of the pores on the surface of the leaves, as well as the tufts of hair, like porous fiberboard, can absorb the noise. In a word, the plants with luxuriant branches and leaves have the function of sound insulation

Solution + summary From the point cloud model, we can see that there are many green plants around the airport and press Rd Brooklyn Park. These green plants can reduce the damage of Adelaide Airport Noise to nearby residents to a certain extent. As the residents living near the airport are inevitably affected by the airport noise, the local government should increase the local greening construction and actively expand the green area, so as to reduce the airport noise to a certain extent and give the residents a quiet living space.

Possible difficulties in the future: One of the possible problem is that the number of flights at Adelaide Airport will increase in the future. Emerging international airlines such as Qatar Airways are driving the airport's growing traffic, which will accelerate further(according to a report by AECOM, a consultancy). The report points out that in the next 20 years, the air traffic around the airport will increase by "more than 60 percent", which is the same as that of other major airports in Australia. Therefore, the idea of only relying on plants to reduce airport noise cannot cope with the future noise crisis. People need to further find effective methods to reduce airport noise (such as installing double glazing and other noise reduction measures). There is a long way to go to solve the problem of airport noise.
