Dear Students, As a child, my father used to tell me; “Don’t ever feel sad when you encounter a poor man!” For my father, life was very clear. God has given us everything, a life that is abundant and full of natural gifts. All that a man (male or female) has to do is just open his eyes, use his intellect and work towards a gratifying life. “In this world, there are no men that are poor in riches, only poor in perspective and understanding” he would continue… As an adult, I kept my father’s teachings in me and was appalled every time I heard remarks that come from poor souls like “Why her?”, “Did you see what he bought?”, “Why not me?”. Seriously!? Are we that narrow in mind and spirit to keep comparing and acting as if someone is taking something from our plate!? Why do people fight over a share of the pie when all the ingredients are readily available to them to create their own pie!!? Have we forgotten how abundant the life that God has given us is!? Luckily not all of us have! A PhD in Economics at the age of 24,my re-found friend Dr. Talal Al-Gharabally talks about “The Plentiness Mentality”!! A beacon of positivity regardless of life hardships, my inspirational friend Sheikha IntisarAl-Sabah talks about “Al-Nowair” A loving, giving generous soul, Mrs. Farea Al-Saqaf talks about motivating and unleashing the inner powers in youth. And these are but a few examples. My dear students, be the next example! Start taking an active role into turning your society, your country into a nation of abundance and plentiness. Look down at petty minds that want to limit you and waste your lives in useless political bickering. Applaud the great minds that are working towards development and growth. ‫جمع ما بين دراسة الهندسة ورياضة‬ ‫التايكوندو‬

‫تعتبر الرياضة من األمور األساسية في حياة أي إنسان حتى يتمكن من أن‬ ‫يتمتع بجسم صحي وعقل سليم‪ ،‬والطالب الجامعي فيصل مراد‪ ،‬تخصص‬ ‫هندسة في جامعة الكويت تمكن من أن يجمع ما بين الدراسة الجامعية‬ ‫وموهبته الرياضية «التايكواندو» والتي بدأها عندما كان في سن ‪12‬‬ ‫عاماً‪ ،‬وحتى اليوم أي بعد أكثرمن ‪ 10‬سنوات ما زال محافظا على تدريباته‬ ‫ودراسته وخلق التوازن فيما بينهما‪ .‬التقته مجلة ‪STUDENTALK‬‬ ‫لنتعرف عليه بشكل أكبر‪.‬‬ ‫ما هو سبب إختيارك للتايكوندو؟‬

‫كان للصدفة دور كبري يف إختيار هذه الرياضة وبالتحديد‪ ،‬يف أحد العطالت الصيفية‬ ‫عام ‪ 2001‬شعرنا انا وابن خالتي بامللل وإقرتح أن ننضم إىل نادي لتدريب التايكوندو‪،‬‬ ‫ومن ذلك الوقت بدأ شغفي بهذه الرياضة‪.‬‬

‫ما هو أول نادي إنضممت إليه؟‬

‫كانت البداية مع نادي الكويت‪ ،‬والذي إعتربه بيتي األول يف هذه الرياضة‪ .‬وحاليا وصلت‬ ‫للحزام األسود‪.‬‬

‫يعتقد الكثيرون أن هذه الرياضة خطرة‪ ،‬ما هو تعليقك؟‬

‫أي رياضة يوجد فيها خماطر والرياضيني بشكل عام معرضني لإلصابات‪ .‬وعلى‬ ‫صعيد شخصي تعرضت لعدد من اإلصابات ويف بعض األحيان توقفت عن ممارسة‬ ‫التمارين الرياضية املطلوبة حتى تلقيت العالج الالزم‪ .‬ويف أكرث األحيان يجب التقيد‬ ‫بقوانني اللعبة الرياضية أيا كانت لتجنب اإلصابات وإن كانت ستحدث حتى لو مت اإللتزام‬ ‫بقوانني السالمة‪.‬‬

‫هل مثلت الكويت في الخارج؟‬

‫نعم‪ ،‬يف عدد من الدول منها كوريا واألردن والبحرين واإلمارات‪ .‬وحصدت على أكرث من‬ ‫‪ 14‬ميدالية و‪ 6‬كؤوس‪.‬‬

‫كيف تقييم اإلهتمام بهذه الرياضة في الكويت؟‬

‫يف البداية كان اإلهتمام قليل إال أن الناس بدأت تتقبل بشكل أكرب خمتلف أنواع الرياضة‪.‬‬

‫هل تقدم أسرتك الدعم الكافي لك؟‬

‫احلمداهلل‪ ،‬بأن والدي ووالدتي قدموا الدعم الكايف من كل النواحي مما كان حافزا‬ ‫بالنسبة يل أن أتقدم بشكل أكرب يف هواياتي ويف نفس الوقت احلفاظ على جناحي‬ ‫يف دراستي سواء كانت املدرسية أو اجلامعية يف الوقت احلايل‪.‬‬

‫ما هو طموحك في هذا المجال؟‬

‫نتمنى نحن العبي التايكوندو الكويتيني أن يصبح لدينا معسكرات خارج الكويت لتطوير‬ ‫مستوانا‪ .‬وعلى صعيد شخصي أطمح للوصول إىل األولومبياد ورفع علم بلدي الكويت‬ ‫وأن أصبح مهندسًا ناجحًا‪.‬‬

‫ما هي الصعوبات التي تواجهها؟‬

‫من الطبيعي أن يكون هناك صعوبات ما بني التنسيق بالدراسة والتدريبيات الالزمة‬ ‫التي تتطلب جمهود جسدي كبري يف حني أن دراسة الهندسة تتطلب جمهود ذهني‬ ‫ولكنني أسعى خللق التوازن بني األمرين شكل كبري‪.‬‬

‫هل هذه الرياضة مقتصرة فقط على الرجال؟‬

‫ليس شرط على اإلطالق‪ ،‬حيث أن يف العديد من املباريات العاملية هناك فتيات‬ ‫يلعنب التايكوندو وقد شاركت مبباراة ودية مع فتاة كورية‪ .‬لكن التايكواندو تتطلب‬ ‫الكثري من العنف والضرب وشخصيًا ال أنصح الفتيات مبمارستها على اإلطالق لكن‬ ‫من املمكن أن تتعلمها الفتاة كنوع من الدفاع عن النفس ولكن بحدود‪.‬‬

‫كلمة أخيرة‪.‬‬

‫أمتنى أن يقوم كل إنسان بإختيار التخصص الذي يرغب به وممارسة هوايته دون‬ ‫التعرض ألي تأثريات خارجية ألن النجاح ال يتحقق إال إذا أحب الشخص العمل الذي يقوم‬ ‫به ألنه وقتها يكون نابع من القلب‪.‬‬

‫أطمح للوصول إلى األولومبياد ورفع علم‬ ‫بلدي الكويت وأن أصبح مهندساً ناجحاً‬ ‫‪20‬‬

HAPPINESS?

WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN? I once read in a book by Paulo Coehlo (The Alchemist), that a little boy asked his dad how he could achieve happiness and what did it mean exactly. The father told the boy to go to a wiseman and ask him that question. That wise man lived in a castle a long way from where they lived. So the boy walked and walked till he reached the beautiful castle and met with the wise man. The man asked the boy what he wanted, and the boy told him what he wanted to know. The wise man told the boy he didn’t have time to answer him, but he could show him. He gave the little boy a spoon with oil in it, told him to go walk around his castle for 2 hours, and he informed him that he couldn’t drop one drop of oil from the spoon. The boy went around the castle and thus focused all his attention on the spoon and the oil. When the boy returned in two hours, the man asked him if he has seen the beauty of his castle if he had seen the designs, the gardens,

the beautiful mountains, the views and the snowflakes falling. The boy admitted that he was too focused on the spoon to notice. The wise man ordered the boy to go walk around the castle with the spoon again, but this time he needed to look around and see the beauty of the castle. The boy returned with amazement sparkling in his eyes. His eyes and mind were enthralled by what he had seen. He sat down and described the beauty with every enchanting word he knew. The wise man listened, and then asked the boy about the spoon. He saw that there was no oil in the spoon. He then informed the boy; happiness is looking and seeing all that is around you, noticing its beauty yet still keeping that oil in the spoon and not forgetting about it. If you think about it, the story has so many meanings and could be explained in so many ways. However, the main concept is to never forget who you are, and still survive the world

successfully. Happiness is to be satisfied with and truthful with yourself and others. Happiness is to never forget god, he blessed you with your life, and keep him constantly within the chambers of your heart. It’s not just an observation, that the only happy people are the ones that have God by their side; that is an undeniable fact. So keep him with you and keep who you are. Grow, and change to the better. Be yourself and believe. Be optimistic and realistic. Like all the ways lead to Rome, all the roads lead to happiness, you just need to choose the right ones and make the right choices. Even though, they say happiness cannot be achieved easily, that’s the opposite of the truth. Happiness could be a moment, a moment were you are stuck in time with nothing but the feelings in your heart and the reason for your smiles. The most beautiful happiness is the unexpected one. So let life go, and if it’s meant to be, life will always come back to you and be.

In this issue of STUDENTALK Magazine, we interviewed four Kuwaiti women who enjoyed a changing process through participating in The Triathlon and won several medals.

Name: Noura Al-Hajeri Age: 23 years old Years of Triathlon experience: 3 years When I first joined The Triathlon, I never knew that I would be able to finish a full Triathlon race. I have not only completed my first race, but The Triathlon changed my perception of life. It provided me with the belief and motivation that I can challenge myself with any obstacles in my life. No one can understand such a feeling until they experience it! Before joining The Triathlon, I didnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t have a healthy lifestyle. I started my Triathlon journeywith the 3 Club in 2010. My friends and family were wondering how can I train for The Triathlon, thinking it is a tough sport, especially for women. However, I have always replied with a simple answer, “if you set a goal and break it down to a manageable training sessions anything is achievable.” This strategy helped me finish my first Triathlon race. Once I finish The Triathlon race, I make sure the next race is more challenging to create a new goal to train for. This is my secret to get ahead in The Triathlon. In the end, I would like to say that I am blessed with the support of the 3 Club team and thankful for my husband, Osama Al Othman, for always being there for me.

STARTED BAKING SINCE INFANCY AND TURNED IT TO A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS At a very young age, Noor Al-Buloshi started her own business by using her mother’s baking recipes. With her interview at STUDENTALK, she mentioned her ability to customize cakes and differentiate her business from other bakeries.

Is customizing a cake a challenging process? No, on the contrary changing the shape and design of the cake is not difficult. Baking is something I love and enjoy very much. I suppose, you could say I enjoy the challenges I face strengthens my abilities and techniques. Since, I believe my customers deserve the best, I try very hard. I think and plan out how I could bake the cake and what tools I would need to use. Although, setting the price structure was the most difficult part.

Did you ever think about branching out to Kuwaiti Traditional Desserts? I never really thought about making traditional Kuwaiti deserts. On a personal level, they are not my favorite. However, you can say I leave a Kuwaiti imprint on some of my deserts whether in the designs or in the taste. Moreover, during Ramadan or Eid occasions, I try to bring the Kuwaiti and Arabian side of me.

How do you manage fulfilling several orders for one day?

How did you start your bakery business? It all started with helping my mother in the kitchen. She used to make dessert for my dad, and I enjoyed her. However, as my mom became older, she asked me if I can take over the kitchen. I used her recipes at first, but as I baked along, I changed a few of the ingredients. Furthermore, I took the chance to learn how to design my cakes. I’m still in the process of learning, yet I am very proud with my progress thus far. My passion for making desserts grew with more practice and through time I realized it was my passion.

What are the types of orders do you provide? My menu consists of a variety of cakes, cupcakes with different types of frostings, cookies, brownies, cheesecakes, and truffles. However, the frequent orders are for cakes. They are all customized for customers. Other cakes depend on special occasions. The customer asks for a cake for a special occasion, and I would show them a few designs in case they did not have a specific design in mind.

Who was your first customer? I first started making a variety of cakes, cookies, brownies and so on for my family. Also, I made desserts for school friends and teachers. They all encouraged and supported me to open a business, because they were certain it would be successful. Baking dessert is something I loved doing and I am enjoying it so far.

There was a period of time where I would get 2 to 3 cake orders a day. Usually, I wouldn’t mind because I prepare everything before hand. Frankly, it is tiring because one cake takes up to 6 hours. Therefore, I came up with a rule of making an order 3 to 4 days prior. That way, I would not be pressured and be able to keep track of my orders.

Was it hard starting your business on your own? To me, opening a bakery and making sure it sold wasn’t as difficult as I thought at first. I don’t have to compete with others because I usually choose new and different designs. Before I started my own bakery, I did my research, and most of the cupcakes and the cakes were not customized. As for the franchised bakeries, I made sure my cakes are moist, rich, and most importantly affordable. These factors increased customer loyalty.

What advice would you provide for our readers who want to start their own business? Providing advice about businesses to other people is a difficult task because, I don’t consider myself as a professional yet. By time, I discovered that I was in love and was devoted to my business. Therefore, I would like to advise everyone to figure out what they love the most, and go for it. If you love what you do, you won’t fail because you will try until you succeed and eventually make your country proud.

Fatima Al-Bader, a student at Kuwait University, and Yussra Annous, a student at AUK, collaborated together to startup their business for accessorizing sunglasses. In their interview with STUDENTALK Magazine, they mentioned how they came up with such exceptional small business and how word-of-mouth helped them gain more publicity.

How did you start your business? Fatima Al-Bader: In the beginning, it was not about business. We just wanted to design chain accessories for our personal eyeglasses. Yussra Annous: Eventually, we expanded from designing for ourselves to designing for other people. We started designing the chain accessories for friends and family members and we received a great feedback from everyone.

In what way did you expand your business? Al-Bader: After receiving such successful feedback, we decided to come up with more designs for the sunglass accessories. Therefore, we were determined to expand and establish a small business. Yussra: To gain more publicity amongst teenagers, women and men, we created an Instagram account @Ocho_Design. How did you manage your business? Fatima: Though we recently launched Ocho, we enjoyed a successful experience with our customers who helped us manage our publicity through word-of-mouth. Yussra: Due to the success, we received offers from several companies in Kuwait. Amongst these companies, we decided to display our collection at Eye Boutique in the Avenues Mall and 360 Mall. On a monthly basis, we send them our new collection to be showcased at the malls. In addition, our collection is available at Al-Tijariya Mall

We started designing the chain accessories for friends and family members and we received a great feedback from everyone

How long does it take to work on your designs? Fatima: Having new a monthly collection is not an easy job, especially that all the designs are hand-made chain accessories. What makes our designs exceptional is that they are inspired by worldwide designers with a significant touch of our creative minds. Yussra: Adding to what Fatima mentioned, some of our designs are inspired by brands such as Chanel and Tiffany. As for the time needed for our collection, designs that include small beads take up to more than half an hour and that is considered a really long time. Mainly, that is the average time for each chain.

What are your future plans? Fatima: We will expand our brand outside of Kuwait. We will be available in Dubai at Eye Boutique branches. In addition, we want to extend to another target market. We will create new designs for children that are very colorful to suit their preference. The designs will also include fictional and real characters that kids love. Yussra: Our future plans also include our participation in an exhibition in Qatar very soon. As we are planning to exhibit our products in our own location in the future, this will be an opportunity to gain more exposure outside of Kuwait.

What is your talent? If you haven’t come to the reading the introduction above then let me help you along, I am a baker! I live, eat and breathe baking. That adrenaline rush you get when you just managed to get away from the speed camera and speeding back to your original speed like nothing happened. That’s exactly what I feel while staring anxiously through the glass of my oven while the soufflé rises ever so delicately.

How did you develop your talent? It all started when I was a kid, by observing my house keeper (Kumari) baking her famous “Aseeda.” An Arabic dessert usually loved by adults, but somehow I took interest in the different ingredients that came together to create a smooth caramel/saffron pudding. And ever since then, after countless rounds of failed and under cooked attempts and experimenting on my family and friends, baking become an essential part of my life.

Did you encounter any obstavles? Until this day I still make mistakes every now and then while baking desserts. However, that doesn’t mean I beat myself about it. Instead, I learn from it and try to perfect that recipe until I get it right.

Who supported your talent? No matter what, my family and friends are always my number one supporters throughout the years of perfecting my talent. And I think that’s what keeps me going.

How did you develop your talent? I develop my talent by practicing, since practice makes perfect. Whenever I have free time, you will always find me in the kitchen baking and trying new recipes. I always try new recipes and try to perfect them. Failure never stopped me from trying to expand my talent. If I ever bake something and it does not turn out the way I want it to be, I try baking it in another way.

Did you encounter any obstacles? As people have different tastes, it is hard to identify what everyone in the market wants or likes to eat. Acknowledging the fact that there are different taste buds is imperative. Therefore, I try to learn and create different types of desserts that complements the tastes and caters the needs and wants of everyone in the market.

In what ways did you develop your talent? Being a Makeup Artist requires full attention on research, because new trends and techniques are always introduced in the market. It is important to be constantly updated and that is done through research. Inadditon, for the last four years, I have attended courses that teach different makeup techniques. As practice makes perfect, I practiced all the these techniques accordingly for further development.

Did you encounter any obstacles while practicing your talent? With having a very active social life and my studies on the side, the main obstacle was providing enough time to practice my own talent. However after some time-management skills, I was able to solve this problem and develop my talent as much as possible. I managed to devote an equal amount of time to my social life, my study hours and developing my talent.

From where did you receive the support you needed? I have received an extensive amount of support from family and friends. I am very blessed to have them by my side. However, the person who encouraged me the most was my husband. He is my number one supporter.

What are your future plans? First, obtaining my degree is my top priority. After I earn my degree in Business Finance, I will embark my journey on developing my talent by opening my own business that provides makeup services and facilities for women in Kuwait.

Sebastian Vettel dominated the Singapore Grand Prix to edge ever closer to a fourth consecutive title. The Red Bull driver leads Fernando Alonso of Ferrari, who finished second, with 60 points with only 150 still available in the remaining six races. Lotus’s Kimi Raikkonen was third from Mercedes drivers Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton. Red Bull’s Mark Webber was fourth with two laps to go but stopped on the last lap with a burning engine. BREAST CANCER AWARENESS

There has been a silent killer lurking around the world of women throughout the ages, and it was only until the age of modern medicine could this malign disease be controlled and cured-if caught in its early stages. Yes, I’m talking about Breast Cancer, but what is it exactly? By definition cancer is a disease that causes cells in a human’s body to mutate and change, forming a lump or tumor. Breast Cancer originates in the breast tissue, which is builds of glands for milk production called lobules, while the remainder of the breast is basically lymphatic tissue. However, most lumps are benign and aren’t life threatening. Ductal Carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is the presence of cells which aren’t normal and are considered the earliest form of breast cancer. It’s at the stage where it hadn’t spread out of the milk duct to invade other parts of the chest. This is one of two “ in situ” breast cancers, the other being LCIS or lobular carcinoma in situ, which is the type of cancer restricted to the lobules. Other in situ breast cancers either have characteristics of both lobular and ductal origins or it is unspecified. Clinical assessments can be strongly indicative of a cancer diagnosis. It is necessary for a microscopic analysis of breast tissue for a more detailed results that determines whether the cancer is in situ, or

invasive (meaning it had invaded other parts of the breast or body), ductal or lobular. This microscopic analysis can be attained by a needle or surgical biopsy. On a side note, the level of invasive breast cancer is greatly influenced by the disease’s extent when it was first discovered and diagnosed. Stage 0 being in situ and stage IV being the most advanced. Now that we know what breast cancer is, another important question arises, “What are the symptoms and signs of breast cancer?” Unfortunately, during the early stages, when the tumor is small there is no symptoms. Hence it is extremely important for women to follow screening guidelines at regularly before symptoms develop. The extensive usage of screening mammograms amplifies the number of breast cancers being found before symptoms arise. In general, the most widespread symptom is a new lump that is painless, hard, with irregular edges. Though knowing how unpredictable the disease can be, the tumors could also be tender, soft, rounded or even can be painful. Other potential signs comprise of: swelling of the breast even if no lump is felt, skin irritation, pain in the nipple or breast, redness, or thickening of the skin surrounding the breast. That’s why it is extremely

important to be professionally checked in case of developing a having any new distortion in the breast. In some other cases, breast cancer can spread around the collar bone and to lymph nodes under the arm and cause swelling or lumps to form there before the original tumor is felt. Sounds quite scary right? Don’t worry! There are certain risk factors that can you can change to shrink the risk of getting breast cancer, such as avoid being overweight or obese especially after menopause. This has been found to increase the breast cancer risk, as well as the use of oral contraceptives based on many studies. In addition, physical activities such as sports lower the risk of getting breast cancer. Awareness of how to avoid an increased risk in gaining this disease is the first step to create a healthier world, through public talks in universities, and public outlets. It is important to take into consideration that breast cancer indeed affects a small percentage of men. Therefore it is imperative to improve their lifestyles to decrease the risks of getting the disease. Taking advantage of technology in the areas of media, would help the world find light in those dark scary places, and with modern medicine, battling breast cancer is made possible.

‫أقامت لوياك حملة للتوعية بأضرار التدخني لرواد "مول ‪ " 360‬وبالتعاون مع وزارة‬ ‫الصحة ممثلة يف اجلمعية الكويتية ملكافحة التدخني والسرطان – جلنة مكافحة‬ ‫التدخني‪ .‬تضمنت احلملة العديد من الفعاليات بطريقة سهلة ومبتكرة للتوعية‬ ‫باالضرار التى يسببها التدخني‪ ،‬وكيف يدعو الناس لالقالع عنه‪.‬‬ ‫إنطلقت الفعاليات برسالة من األبناء لآلباء املدخنني‪ ،‬تالها جمسم سيجارة يرتديه‬ ‫أحد الطلبة ويتحرك به ليتكتب عليه رواد املول كلمات وجمل للتوعية مبا يسببه‬ ‫التدخني‪ ،‬كما قام الطلبة بتبديل السجاير بالورود على املدخنني ‪.‬‬ ‫قدمت بعدها حملة األالواح من اجلمعية الكويتية ملكافحة التدخني والسرطان‬ ‫تتضمن معلومات عن عدد املصابني بالسرطان سنويا بسبب التدخني‪ ،‬ورسائل‬ ‫توضح مدي الضرر الذي يصيب الشخص إذا جلس فرتة طويلة يف غرفة بها مدخنني‬ ‫وغري ذلك من الرسائل التى حتتوي على هذا املضمون‪ ،‬هناك أيضا فالشات توعوية‬ ‫وإعالنات ومسابقات كنوع من اجلذب للرواد ولتقبل الناس فكرة احلملة والتوعية‬ ‫املرجوه منها‪ .‬القت احلملة اقباال واسعا من اجلمهور‪ ،‬واستمرت ملدة ‪ 5‬ايام ‪.‬‬

‫اقامت مدرسة لوياك اي سي ميالن لالشبال من الفئة العمرية ‪ 18-5‬سنة حفل‬ ‫افتتاح موسمها اخلامس متضمنا مؤمتر صحفي حضره املدرب االيطايل باتريسيو‬ ‫بيليو‪ ،‬ومنى الكالوتي عضو جملس ادارة لوياك وممثلي الشركات الراعية جمال العتال‬ ‫مدير عام شركة داو للكيماويات بالكويت‪ ،‬واسامة املسلم ممثل املركز املايل الكويتي‬ ‫و بسمة القصار ممثلة عن شركة كويت انريجي‪ ،‬اضافة إىل منال عقاد ممثلة عن‬ ‫جمموعة كوت الغذائية‪ .‬كما حضر االفتتاح ايضا الالعبني املشاركني باملدرسة واولياء‬ ‫االمور للتعرف طاقم التدريب وطبيعة التدريبات لهذا املوسم وتقسيم الطلبة حسب‬ ‫االعمار بدأ املؤمتر الصحفي بكلمة للكالوتي اعربت فيها عن سعادتها بالنجاح الذي‬ ‫حققته املدرسة على مدار االعوام السابقة واالجنازات التى وصلت اليها حيث ان‬ ‫مشاركة املدرسة يف البطولة العاملية للسالم والتى تقام سنويا يف فريونا‪ -‬ايطاليا‬ ‫زادت العام املاضي اىل فريقني بدال من فريق واحد احدهما حتت ‪ 13‬سنة واآلخر حتت‬ ‫‪ ، 17‬واالهم من ذلك انهم وصلوا اىل مراكز متقدمه يف تلك البطولة على أمل احلصول‬ ‫عليها مستقبال شكرت الكالوتي ادارة املدرسة ممثلة يف فيصل الهارون وسلمان‬ ‫الرشود وعبداللطيف النصف على جهودهم وتطوعهم ‪ ،‬كما شكرت الشركات الراعية‬ ‫ومتنت استمرارهم يف دعم وتشجيع الرياضة يف الكويت ومتنت للالعبني التوفيق‬ ‫واملشاركة يف بطوالت اكرث هذا العام لرفع اسم الكويت دائما ‪.‬‬ ‫وبدأ املدرب بيليو الرتحيب احلضور وافاد بأن استمراره للعام الثاين يف تدريب العبني‬ ‫مدرسة لوياك اي سي ميالن ملن دواعي سروره وذلك ملا وجده من كفاءة والتزام‬ ‫من الالعبني االشبال وايضا حبهم الواضح لكرة القدم ‪ ،‬كما تقدم بالشكر للوياك التى‬ ‫تعطي الرياضه اهتمام خاص وايضا الشركات الداعمه ‪.‬‬ ‫‪64‬‬

AUK Artists Come Together “In the Name of Peace” As part of Kuwait’s celebration of Global Peace Day, an exhibition entitled ‘In the Name of Peace’ was showcasing interpretations of ‘peace’ by local and international artists. The exhibition was held at the Contemporary Art Platform (CAP) and featured pieces by AUK Graphic Design Professors Maryam Hosseinnia and William Anderson, as well as pieces by AUK alumnus Faisal Mohammad. ‘In the Name of Peace’ was launched on September 15th and will run through to mid-October. Part of the proceeds collected from sold items will be donated to Khair Al-Kuwait, a non-profit foundation devoted to the concept of volunteerism, and Loyac, a non-profit organization working towards the overall development of the youth. The celebration of Global Peace Day included live music and activities for children, which was held at the CAP Kuwait Warehouse on September 21st as well as a ‘Global Peace Ride’ by the Kuwait Riders and Phoenician Riders from Costa Bedai on September 20th at 4:00pm.

Linden U.S. University Fair and U.S. Education Group (USEG) Visit Kuwait Two U.S. University fairs were held in Kuwait Sunday, September 15 and on Saturday, September 21. Both fairs promoted U.S. colleges and universities and offered perspective students the opportunity to meet with U.S. Embassy academic advisers and visa officers. The Linden U.S. University Fair returned to Kuwait on September 15th, 2013 at 6:00 pm at the Marina Hotel in Salmiya. The fair hosted representatives from 14 universities throughout the U.S. This fair was organized by Linden Educational Tours in conjunction with the U.S. Embassy. The Linden University Fair gave Kuwaiti students a chance to meet with representatives from accredited U.S institutions so that they could explore possibilities and pursue their goals in higher education. We enjoyed a small reception of mocktails and chocolate covered strawberries where we had the chance to socialize before being welcomed by the lovely Canon team. We were then split into two groups. The first group went ahead to get their makeup done and to be styled by MALAAK designs, the UAE based Abaya designer brand. As they prepared, we had a short intensive course on how to use the Canon EOS 100D which was instructed by Farooq Salik; Dubai based Senior Fashion Lifestyle Photographer. The Canon EOS 100D is the smallest and lightest DSLR now in the market! We swiftly learned how to use the camera as well as how to ‘capture the moment’ and to take the best pictures based on different lightings in the studio. Once we felt fully prepared and confident using the compact DSLR, the first group was ready for their close-ups. We were able to test our abilities with Farooq Salik being close by to help us if we needed any further assistance. We found the easy-to-use camera incredibly enjoyable and had an array of shooting modes and filters to experiment with and to be creative! Afterwards, it was our turn to model the beautiful abayas and turbans by MALAAK. We enjoyed our moment in the spotlight as the other team was running the photoshoot! The event was a great experience and was perfectly arranged. We felt pampered with the makeup and styling; the delicious canapés, drinks and treats and were still very excited about our new found love of photography; more specifically, our new Canon EOS 100D!

New Look AW13 Collection Preview Event in Dubai We were invited once again to preview the new collection from one of our favorite high street brands, New Look. We had the pleasure of experiencing firsthand the new designs with a walk-through explaining the inspiration behind the three main lines for this Autumn/Winter collection. The first collection, named Baboushka, is heavily inspired by Russian fashion. Rich colors and materials were used to capture a folkish flair and rustic charm. The decadent prints and intricate embroidery give winter statement pieces a new level of luxe. The collection is very rich, colorful and incredibly feminine with a sultry Eastern European edge! The second collection, New Army Model, focuses on sharp lines and silhouettes. The unique simplicity of the structured shapes give the pieces a classic look that is modern, feminine as well as edgy. The colors are neutral as the monochrome is key in allowing a great pop of color with the scarlet and cobalt accents. We found many of the pieces to be staples for any winter wardrobe. The third collection, Grunge, is very true to its name. Hard-edged embellishments, bold prints and toght textures are blended to deliver a carefree, confident and effortlessly edgy collection that perfectly captures 90s Grunge. New Look has titillated our fashion minds, as they do each season, with many must-haves for us to mix, match and have plenty of fun with!
