2MO - Method?
Intro
The 2 Meter Office (2MO) method offers analogue/digital planning services and hacks for a collaborative work environment using physical distancing regulations. As a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, our entire environment is undergoing a paradigm shift. Workspaces are also facing great challenges in order to meet so-called physical distancing measures. With our guideline we would like to help to maintain the workspace as a shared place of work and communication as well as to facilitate a high-quality work environment by readjusting it.

Which design approaches and socio-cultural approches does a 2m office space need?
7 Premises
01. Easy to implement reorganisation processes Consultation – Planning – Implementation 02. Appreciation of joint work and business resonance Corporate Philosophy – CSR – Design Demand 03. Recognition and visualisation of workflows (analogue through observation/digital through simulation) Analysis – SWOT – Strategic Plan 04. Implementation of subsequent adaptation processes Minimally Invasive Measures – Implementation – Proof-of-Concept 05. Observation and documentation of socio-cultural circumstances Continuous Exchange – Monitoring – Adaptation 06. Employee satisfaction Feedbackloops 07. Flexibility through a jointly supported code of conduct Handling – Flexibility – Codex

Key question: What has worked well, what has not worked well?
1. Elaboration of a pre-pandemic flow diagram (animated) Preparation of an office plan (if not existing), flows of movement, number of employees, working hours, use of office-relevant spaces, re-activate furniture and unused areas.
Case study/Visualisation: 2MO workspace study for A-NULL Bausoftware GmbH
01. Strategy ‚local‘
Working mode - Standard use
Break mode - Standard use
Working mode - Detection of distance ranges
Break mode - Detection of distance ranges
Output: Animated movement diagram; SWOT analysis of the office space; criteria catalogue.

Guiding question: Which measures must be taken and how is it possible to work ‚smoothly‘?
2. Implementation of a 2MO (animated) Through the 2m regulation a changed movement diagram is resulting. Availabilities of workstations are defined. Minor spatial adaptation is created.

01. Strategy ‚local‘
Working model - 2MO mode
Break model - 2MO mode
Working mode - Maintenance of distance ranges
Break mode - determination of adjustment measures
Output: Adapted movement diagram; Minor spatial adaptation in the plan; Short/long term implementation strategy; Extended criteria catalogue.

Key question: Do the implemented spatial adaptations guarantee a ‚smooth‘ working process? How does the working atmosphere evolve?
3. Spatial adaptation Flexible ad-hoc furniture
Monitoring of the minor adaptations. If necessary, readjustment and implementation of additional spatial interventions. Socio-cultural approach to increase employee satisfaction.

01. Strategy ‚local‘
Output: Integration of suggestions into the planning documents; evaluation of employee suggestions.

pp. 8
Key question: How can my personal behaviour contribute to adapted workspace design?
4. Common ‚Code of Conduct‘ Spatial adaptations are accompanied by a code of conduct for the employees. The incorporation of such a code of conduct sets out rules that contribute to the use of spaces and to the interaction between the colleagues.
Visualisation: Graphic radius of movement 1m - 2m
01. Strategy ‚local‘
Output: Publication of a code of conduct in the form of an online booklet.

Key question: How can small design interventions contribute to the use and usability of the office?
‚Small hacks, big flexibility‘ Small hacks, big flexibility‘ - is the motto for implementing timely planning measures in the office space. Using 3D printing and minimally invasive hacks, we adapt office space to a contactreduced form of interaction.
Case study/visualisation: 3D customized hacks
The following hacks are offered: Contactless window and door handle openers (3D print), Extend Push for employees with company logo (3D print), signage, floor and wall markings, antibacterial textiles...

How will the workspace of the future develop?
Strategie ‚global‘
Strategy ‚global‘ is used as an assessment tool for the development of a future working model. An action multiple-choice is used to identify priorities in the development of the workplace. The main focus of the global strategy is on: 01. ‘Places of Assembly’ instead of ‘Meeting Rooms’ 02. Flexible Work + Structure of Work 03. Socio-culture at Work 04. Visitor Management 05. Future Policies
