I try to explore to the full the evocative power of white and its ability to make us cross the border between reality and imagination because seeing is imagining … and as W. Blake says: “The Imagination is not a state: it is the human existence itself.” Rossella Rossi
After receiving a PhD in Genetics from Università di Pavia in Italy and 15 years of research activities with the CNRS in Molecular Biology, I moved to Paris in September 2005 where I continued my scientific activities, while at the same time, dedicating myself to painting. I undertook an internship painting living models at the Ecole Nationale SupÊrieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and regularly attended the workshops of the Grande Chaumière. In September 2008, I returned to Milan and after a painting and drawing course at the Accademia di Brera School of Fine Arts, I decided to devote myself full-time to the role of artist painter. I have always been fascinated by the magic of water and the power of the sea that I have observed since my childhood and which remains my first source of inspiration. Through different approaches, I have developed a style based almost entirely on this quasi-existential attachment to the element of water. Whether on canvas, linen, oil or acrylic, my painting style is based around the symbolism of water in transporting the viewer to the infinite world of universal sensations and suspended moments. Using colour and strokes, both strong or soft, I try to plunge into a dreamlike, almost magnetic world where bodies go beyond their simple material form to join the world of free spirits unshackled from the constraints of time.
THE WHITE TREAD, mix techinque on raw canvas, 90 x 120 cm
White as the shape of the waves breaking on the shoreline. White as a memory that does not know a "tabula rasa". White because it is a “non-colored color that actually contains them all and is of all colors luminous memory that remains unfathomable. White, finally, is a dimension, the shape of a world, for the italian artist Rossella Rossi. We need well trained eyes and mind, in order to welcome within themselves the emotions of this new series of works by Rossella Rossi, where the only protagonist is white, with its iridescent and delicate nuances.
The meditation about a the White manifests itself on the canvas, after a soliloquy in which the objects take the weight of the interiority: a canvas from raw linen, like a shred of spirit, free from the encrustations of the world out there. The brush traces its path on it with the delicacy of a thought brought to us by the waves of a sea that will leave its mark in the sand bubbling white foam.
THE MEMORY OF THE WATER, mix techinque on raw canvas, 100 x 200 cm
The subject that Rossella’s brush portrays is always one, the water sea: a wonderful metaphor of ourselves, primordial water in which to immerse ourselves in order to return to the origins of our world. A White sea because it contains the beginning and at the same time the end. Investigating the form and letting yourself be shaped at the same time, this is the secret.
