ADULT COMMUNITY COLLEGE St Vincent College is proud to serve its community and offer a wide range of vocational and community learning courses aimed at adults living in Gosport and the surrounding areas. Adult learners are welcomed into full-time, day, evening and online classes by students and tutors alike. Whether you would like to get back into education, retrain in a new vocation, improve your job prospects, or to simply try something new, we have a qualified and experienced team, who will support you to achieve your educational goals and aspirations. All vocational and community learning courses are now located in the north-side of our campus within the Adult Community College building overlooking Portsmouth Harbour. Many local buses stop directly outside the main entrance. Parking is also available directly outside of the Community College building which can be accessed via Mill Lane. We are also excited to be delivering a wide range of popular community learning courses at the Rowner Community Trust (Nimrod Centre).

VOCATIONAL LEARNING St Vincent College offers a variety of Vocational Qualifications at different levels, for different occupational areas. These qualifications are assessed in the workplace.

Some of our qualifications offer classes, depending on the qualification and level undertaken. Learners will be interviewed prior to enrolment to ensure they are in the correct job role/have the appropriate work placement and/or that they have the appropriate experience. 2 YEAR COURSE EARLY YEARS EDUCATOR VOCATIONAL LEARNING (NVQ) 12-15 MONTH COURSE CHILDREN & YOUNG PEOPLE’S WORKFORCE VOCATIONAL LEARNING (NVQ) The Early Years (CYPW/EYE) Qualifications are designed for anyone involved in or wanting to work within a Nursery, a Pre-School, as a registered Childminder or working with children under the age of 5 and would like to gain the necessary qualification to become an Early Years Practitioner. There are two qualifications which measure the knowledge and skills required to meet the support needs within an Early Years setting. Achieving one of the qualifications demonstrates an individual’s ability relating to child development, care, behaviour and learning. The qualifications are suitable for those already working as an Early Years Practitioner and also anyone who is looking to work in this sector. You will need to be working within an Early Years setting employed or voluntary.

The Support Teaching and Learning in Schools (STLS) qualifications are designed for anyone involved in or wanting to work within a school setting and would like to gain the necessary qualification to become a Teaching Assistant/LSA. There are a suite of qualifications which measure the knowledge and skills required to meet the support needs of primary, secondary, college and special needs schools. Achieving one of the qualifications demonstrates an individual’s ability relating to pupil welfare, care, behaviour and learning. The qualifications are suitable for those already working as learning support staff in schools and colleges and also anyone who is looking to work in education. You will need to be working within a school or college setting: employed or voluntary.

Would you like to develop your knowledge and understanding working in Health and Social Care or Childcare? These courses are a stepping stone to a career in the care industry with the opportunity to progress through each level whilst you work. You will also share experiences in study groups and meet new people. The Care qualifications are designed for anyone involved in or wanting to work within the Care industry and wanting to gain the necessary qualification to become a Carer. These qualifications are designed to equip learners with the skills and knowledge needed to care for others in a wide range of health or social care settings. You will need to be working within a care setting and be in an employed or voluntary position. You are required to work within a paid or voluntary position within this sector for a minimum of 12 hours a week.

HIGHER EDUCATION Alongside our Adult Community College courses, we offer a wide range of Higher Education courses which are delivered within our main campus, including a Foundation Degree in Early Years Care and Education, a Foundation Degree in Learning Support, a part-time PGCE/Cert Ed course and Access to Higher Education Diplomas. Specifically aimed at students over 19, the Access to HE Diploma offers a recognised entry qualification to higher education. You can study the course full time over a year if you have GCSE English and Maths at grade 4 or above, or for some university courses Functional Skills Level 2 in English and Maths are accepted.
