A LETTER FROM OUR

editor Greets everyone,

I know our original theme for Vol 9 was comic characters. Sadly, Marvel comics didn't grant us legal permission to use their comic characters therefore we needed to change the theme to "Everyday SL". I fully respect the creator and companies that own Marvel for their decision and am glad they took their time to reply us. "Everyday SL" features casual looks created by our own in-house stylist and invited guest stylist, looks that every resident is able to wear on a daily basis no matter the occasion. Hope you readers enjoy this edition as much as we did making it. Have a blessed September! Best regards,

Dougie Boxen CEO & Founder Style Kingdom Magazine

D: Oh well really I left modeling world cause my old pc, I was crashing all time. Then I started blogging, cause I think there are so many good creators on SL, and i wanted to show my own style, with their creations and art.

Dahriel: Thank you, and the Honor is mine. Well firstly I started modeling, and then blogging, and a while later was when I created *PosESioN*.

PM: OhIsee,sorrytohearaboutyourcomputer.ButI'mgladit lead youtofocusonyourblogging,becauseyourstylesaredynamic,andwhatyoudowiththecreationsofotherisinspired,very creative.Whoaresomeofyourfavoritedesignerstoblog?

D: Tableau Vivant, Zibska, Gizza, Aliza Karu, there so many designers that I love, lol

THE PASSION IN BLOGGING

Paradox Messmer: Itismygreatpleasuretositdowntodaywith Ms.OakleyFoxtrot,whohasbeenaprolificfigureonflickrandin theSecondLife® bloggingworldforquitesometime.Oakley,your imagesandstyleshaveinspiredmany,soI'mgoingtostartby askingyouwhatisyourbiggestdriveinwhatyoudo?

Oakley Foxtrot: Well, when it comes to what drives me, hmm. Since I started blogging I made it a point to only do it for myself and to also have fun with it. So for my first few years I honestly just messed around with what I thought looked good. Now things are totally different and I'm not really sure when I became so expressive to be honest lol. When I take one simple shot I honestly

put everything I have into it. It's a way to express myself. If I'm going through something in RL, or even in Second Life®, it helps me let go of things for even just a few hours. So, to sum that up LOL. My drive would be passion and emotion. Yeah. P.M.: Wow,fantasticanswer!Ireallyseehowyouexpress yourselfthroughyourphotography, itisaperfectmediumtodothat through.Yousaidalothaschanged.Doesthatalsomeanovertime youhavetakenonsponsorsandbloggedforcertaindesigners andSecondLife® events?Doyoufindyoudon'tjustdoitfor yourselfalonenow?

“My

drive would be passion and emotion. Yeah. O.F.: When I first started blogging I had absolutely no clue you blog for events or certain stores. Now I do blog for quite a few events and stores, and to be honest, sometimes it can be very overwhelming. But I just tell myself to keep doing it for me. If I ever feel buckled down or stressed out I always take a step back and do an expressive picture of my own. It's unbelievable how much that helps me control things and not feel panicked. But even when I'm working and blogging I still always have to do it for myself. If I don't enjoy it or gain pleasure from it, what's the point. You know? PM.: Oh,absolutely,Iagreewithyouonthat.Youhaveto doitforyourself, nomatterifyouhaveobligationsto sponsors, youdoitbecauseyoulovetheirdesignsandto stylewhattheygiveyou, andithelpstogetinspiredby themtoo.Speakingofinspiration, youseemtoleanmore towardfantasyandroleplaystylesthesedays.Isthatyour favoritegenretoworkinandwhy? O.F.: I wouldn't say it's my favorite genre, but it's definitely lots of fun to do lol. My style varies day to day really. I try my best and do different things. Like, let me be a bit more clear.. I LOVE fantasy and roleplay type things, but I am just so versatile and all over the place that I wouldn't ever label myself as this or that type of blogger. P.M.: That'sgreat, asyoushouldn't,becauseIdoseealot ofvarietyinwhatyoustyle, indeed. It'sgoodnottolimit yourselftoanyonegenre.Arethereanyparticularartists thatinspireyou,RLorSecondLife® ? O.F.: Right, well. When it comes to Second Life® I have a couple ladies who have inspired me greatly. Miaa Rebane and Steffy Ghost. I have loved their work for as long as I can remember. So yeah, I do want to give them some credit here. But when it comes down to it I really do inspire myself. I may have taken things from them but I made sure to make it my own thing. I mean, lettuce be real. No one could ever full on copy those two, they're kinda perfect in my eyes. This actually brings me back to expressing my

emotions and what not. I have soo much passion inside of me that is just aching to get out. And I know I have been blessed with the ability to know when and how to rightfully express all those feels. P.M. : Thatlastthingyousaidwastrulybeautiful.:)So SecondLife® photographyhasbeenverycatharticforyou, Isee.YesthosetwoareamazingbutIseeyoudefinitely putyourownoriginalstyleinyourwork.Oneofyour trademarks,isyourfoggy/slightlymistylook.Itgivesit quiteadreamyquality.Youalsoliketodosplitpanelsfor presentingyourLOTD.Whydoyoudothis? O.F. : When it comes to the misty/foggy look it was honestly me just messing around with windlights one day. When I found that windlight I fell in love to be honest lol. I just love how dreamy it is and for me I love how it softens the sometimes edgy looks I put together. For the panels I actually started with 2 panels at first and then 3, 4 and so on lol. I usually take a lot of pictures and then I end up liking more than just 1 or 2. So I just throw them all in there lol. Sometimes tho I actually love telling a story with my pics. That is the most fun for me actually. When you can look at each panel and actually follow the story and what's happening. P.M.: That'showIfeltaboutthepanelstoo, thattheywere tellingastorythroughdifferentangles, stylesandmoods. It'smuchlikeeditorialfashionphotographyandIthink it'sabigpartofyoursuccess.Thankyouforsharingyour ideasandfeelingsheretonight.:)Arethereanywordsof adviceyouhaveforfellowbloggersyou'dliketo leaveuswith? O.F.: The only thing I can say is do it for yourself. If you start trying to please others it will no longer be fun, it could even possibly be miserable lol. Also, try your hardest to be unique. There are soo many bloggers, we all know this. But, it's so nice to have YOUR OWN style that no one can recreate, even if they tried :)

SCALA™: The Ultimate Models Agency and Academy in Second Life® by Prisilla S. Avro As many virtual fashionistas know there are a plethora of modeling agencies and schools on the grid, but which are really worth a look? SCALA Models Academy is certainly an academy any discerning model should look into. As for SCALA Models Agency, it is by invitation only. There are two driving forces behind SCALA, Seashell Dench and Kryptonia Paperdoll. They have been working together in the Second Life® (SL) fashion industry for several years. Their arrival in SL couldn’t be more dissimilar. Dench commented, “I was never a person that liked computers; even the great boom of the internet went quite unnoticed to me. I just didn't care at all. I was an English teacher in RL for over 15 years, and believe me, I never used a pc to write the tests for my students. I did it all by hand! We didn't even have a pc at home! But one day, back in 2007, I heard a documentary on a radio station about this metaverse platform called SL. By then, I had my own pc so, I decided to give SL a try and I never left.” Paperdoll had a different experience. She came to SL in 2006 at the prompting of a friend who had tried it out a few weeks before her. She enjoys 3D environments and was not averse to technology. She logged in regularly and came to make several good friends. She learned so much about SL that she eventually became a mentor for Linden Labs. She and some of her close friends have created some tools models today actively use, namely the Strut It HUD and the Virtual Private Chat (VPC).

Eventually their paths crossed when they were both involved with AVENUE. Dench recalled, “During my training at AVENUE, I met the best runway instructor I had ever seen - Kryptonia Paperdoll. If any model can walk on a runway with Kryptonia coordinating or choreographing, you can walk with any modeling agency in SL.” Through their time with AVENUE they came to work on the academy side of things and the made a fierce team. All good things must come to an end at some point and when that became true for AVENUE, Dench and Paperdoll knew they wanted to continue working together and enjoying the passion they both share for training models and creating inspired fashion productions. Both women reflected on the time they knew they realized they were about to create their own agency and academy. Dench remarked, “When a door closes on you, other doors open. I had never thought I could run a model's agency in SL, until the moment AVENUE started to fade, by the end of 2013. There was work to be done, and no place to do it. There were people connected through the years, wanting to keep on working and nowhere to go to. So, I presented AVENUE's CEO my resignation letter and both Kryptonia and myself, we opened SCALA, on January 6th 2014, in a piece of land borrowed by a friend, but with so much to do and a vision and dream to fulfill. I can honestly say that AVENUE was my home for at least five years, which is extremely rare in SL and I keep the best memories of those years.” Paperdoll’s sentiments echoed that of Dench. “I decided to start SCALA as I heard that AVENUE might close its doors. Once this was confirmed I asked Seashell if she wanted to work with me and establish our own agency and academy. If you worked on things you spent a lot your time and effort on it, you won’t give it up easily. My passion has been to teach runway since 2007 and I want to continue it. Also, I didn’t want to lose people I worked with over the years, as they are part of my SL.” Since January 2014, Dench and Paperdoll have really gotten to experience what it is like to run their own agency and academy. It has been a great deal of work but they have accomplished a great many things in a relatively short amount of time. They just recently graduated their second class of model trainees and are gearing up to open up the next round. They have created numerous fashion shoes for well-known designers and have partnered with other agencies and institutes to bring inspired SL fashion experiences to the masses. When asked what mattered the most to them as agency/academy owners they each had a similar reply.Paperdoll stated, “Most important is to treat and pay our models and staff on fair basis. We don’t want famous and award winning staff or models, what we want is those models or staff that can work with us, flexible, loyal and trustworthy. For our academy, we want to teach models what they need to know about modeling, working with them on an entire curriculum is to know them and for them to know each other. Graduation is bittersweet.” Dench is ever the businesswoman. “I want to run a company, just like in real life. I pay my staff and pay the models that are represented by

SCALA. I have heard enough models say ‘oh, I'll do it for free.’ No! You deserve to be paid. However, to be well paid, you have to be at your best. That's why, in my personal opinion, models are underpaid and there are so many models in SL, that they will do anything that pays them L$250 or less, they will model for an outfit! SCALA models that do runway or print, are paid and well paid. As a model and fashion event company, we need staff - they must be paid too; we need the best models out there, not ‘famous’ models, but people that are willing to change, willing to push outside their comfort zone, people that aren't afraid to think outside the box. Models that forget all about RL America's Next Top Model and Miss Universe Pageantry and know more about real life designers and collections. Models that care about what are the new trends. Another reality that I fully understood only after opening SCALA is that SL creators aren’t willing to pay huge amounts of money for a show that is medium quality, with some ‘famous’ names in it. They want quality and that's what they deserve and get when working with us. SCALA was born with a vision - and it's not only my vision. It's our client's vision. Whatever the client wants, we will do our best to achieve. On the other hand, I also have to say, honestly, that if, for some reason, I don't feel that special connection with a client, if I feel that his/her vision goes against our standards of quality, I prefer to politely excuse myself and say, ‘I'm sorry, we cannot do that!’” Paperdoll and Dench are very excited about SCALA’s future. Dench remarked, “SCALA is still a baby. A baby we cherish with the time we dedicate to it. We don't want to be similar to any other agency or academy. I am very fortunate to say and feel that we work with an amazing team, we have fun together, we simply enjoy doing what we love; we meet every weekend, just to talk, so much laughter and joy! We are growing, we don't want fame, we want recognition. One thing we have in our favor - experience. Years and years working in SL with fashion events, organizing them, training new models in a professional way. Personally, I'm so grateful for creating SCALA with an amazing woman that I have known through time. A woman whose loyalty and honesty makes me feel humbled and close to her. The best runway models instructor in SL (trust me on that!): Kryptonia Paperdoll.” Dench and Paperdoll are grateful for the opportunity to share SCALA on the pages of Style Kingdom magazine and welcome any inquiries from any interested parties. Their contact information can be found on their website and they will always reply. http://www.scala-sl.com/

INTERVIEW

PHOTOGRAPHER: CITTA INTERVIEWER: SALEENA HAX

meet ellen moonites Recently, I had a chance to sit down with a hot new designer on the horizon, Ellen Moonites, the creative mind behind "FashionNatic" and she is one of the most approachable and focused designers I have met in some time. So please join me now as we get to know the mind behind "FashionNatic".

Saleena Hax: Ellen, thankyouforthistimeandifwe coulddiverightintoit, whereareyoufrom? Ellen Moonites: Both my business partner and I are from Greece.

E.M.: I think that it would be SL as the customers are free from RL conventions and able to really enjoy wearing clothes that they may never be able to wear in real life. I also love the collaborative creative potential of SL.

S.H: WhatinfluencedyoutocometoSecondLife® (SL)?

S.H.: IalwaystrytoaskthisbutyourfavoriteSL/RL designers,ifany?

E.M.: I enjoy the thrills of creative freedom and customer interaction.

E.M.: Favorite SL Designer Redgrave and RL Vivienne Westwood

S.H.: Iseeanddidyoualwayswanttobeadesigner ofsomekind?

S.H.: Iamsureyougetaskedthisalotaswellbutareyou currentlyacceptingbloggers?

E.M.: I was actually on the career path to become a nursery school teacher but I was always fascinated by technology, gaming and graphic arts. My latest passion with contemporary fashion combined with my highly creative drive has led me to the designer path. Of course my business partner who was always involved in graphic arts and technology has been my mentor and helped me quickly catch up on the technical side.

E.M.: We already have a lot but are still open for ones that do a good job!

S.H.: Wow,fromteachertogamer,Iloveit!Thereisalotof roomforinspirationthere! So,whatinspiresyour viewofdesign? E.M.: Textures, making clothes look like real, perfect fit.

"We may at some point design clothing on demand like haute couture in rl"

S.H.: Howlonghaveyoubeendesigning? E.M.: Three years. We have started by designing tattoos and then we expanded into clothing and accessories which is much more fascinating. S.H.: Whatareyourhopesforthefutureoffashion? E.M.: The Virtual world has already entered the RL fashion with virtual prototyping and cloud based collections so computer simulated design is tailoring the future fashion industry. I just hope there will be no limits to imagination and creativity. S.H.: WhatareyourplansforthefutureofFashionatic? E.M.: To come up with exceptional unique designs, maybe create special lines / themed, or seasonal. There are a lot of thoughts but we are always guided by our customer demand and consumer desires and we take into serious consideration their feedback. We may at some point design clothing on demand like haute couture in RL. S.H.: Nowthatwouldbequiteanimpressivefeat!Ifyou coulddesignfor2designers,RLorSL,whowouldthey beandwhy?

S.H.: Areyoualsopartofothersocialmediasiteslike Facebook,Pinterest,Twitter,Linkedin, etc? E.M.: Yes Facebook, Pinterest and Flickr only so and they have been very useful marketing tools. Andthereyouhaveit,afriendly,fashion-forwardladythat istakingtheSLgridbystormsokeepyoureyeon FashionNaticbecausewithadrivelikethis, youdon’twant tomissathing!
