PUBLISHER’S

Greetings readers,

Winter is nearly over and spring is nearly upon us. As our next magazine (Vol 7) will focus purely on spring fashion, this magazine I present a special Bohemian fashion edition. The original "Bohemians" were travelers or refugees from central Europe, people who did not care about fashion. Today the style is classified as “Boho-chic”, where even the most fashionable people wear it, while maintaining the original ruffle floral skirts, nomadic and spirited look mixed with modern day trends. I would like to thank the models and photographers for their hard work making this magazine able to be published on time. A big thank you to all readers for supporting this non-profit Second Life® fashion focused magazine, we are NOT going to stop publishing and appreciate your continual support! Best regards,

AN INTERVIE W WITH ...

Phil Kearny

TheMadAlice03: AEG has a new addition amongst the other 4 clubs already in the family - Club Five. Can you tell us more about it? What's different? Phil Kearny: I wanted to create a club that had a Las Vegas Feel for it. Hence you have games of skill in the casino section, the club and two different restaurants with a cigar bar. Above are Hotel rooms with a pool. It feels like a real Las Vegas experience; just ask anyone who has ever been to Sin City.

TheMadAlice03: Club Five is separated from the others, and it's placed on a sim that resembles a city, with people actually living near it, and it's also placed in "Australia". Any particular reason for this?

Phil Kearny: Steady Growth

TheMadAlice03: What are the plans for 2014? Can you give us a little peek into how the upcoming year will look like in aspects such as events, eventual changes, etc? Phil Kearny: We will continue to kick ass at providing quality social entertainment for bored people around the world. We will look to move more into Live Music events with top notch musicians. Also we have a 6th club in the works that should also provide some top notch fun for all. The clubs themselves will continue to be updated

Phil Kearny: We are part of Trust City, a group of 16 sims for people to live in Second Life in a true role play community. CLUB FIVE sits in the center forming the city center. The name of the sim happened to be Outback Australia, so I went with the idea and placed elements that you would find if someone plopped a hotel and casino down in the middle of the outback Australia. Don't be surprised if a pack of hungry dingos run through the club looking for babies to eat. TheMadAlice03: If you look back at when you first started Ambrosia Dance Club, and you look at Club Five, what changed? In the manner of creating a club, and building an audience for it? Phil Kearny: Many people come to Second Life looking for entertainment. This entertainment can take many forms, some of which can be quite strange and alien to "normal" people. For the most part the AEG clubs emphasize social interactions. We strive to create an environment where people can communicate to each other whilst being entertained by truly interactive staff. When I look back I understand that it was never about the arrangement of pixels more than the people behind the avatars. TheMadAlice03: We are at the beginning of a new year, can you wrap up the past year, 2013 in a couple of words? How did it look for AEG?

to reflect the capability of modern computers. They are purposely kept simplistic at the time so people can render them on lesser computers. All of our plans are contingent on the popularity of Second Life. As long as there is a Second Life there is AEG. TheMadAlice03: AEG, is different. Ambrosia Entertainment Group is not just "Five Clubs, One World", it's an actual brand. A brand that managed to stay years in a row, in front. AEG it's not just about clubs, it's also about an image. How can you describe this image? How does AEG look trough your own eyes, as the owner? Phil Kearny: If i can sum up this image in one word, it would be "quality." I want one thing as the owner. I want everyone involved as staff to reach their highest potential as an entertainer. I demand quality and commitment from our people. Those who view this as

a game are great to have as customers. They are to be entertained. That is our one simple mission. Our malls are filled with clothes from carefully selected top designers to make you look good on our dance floor. If you don't look good, it is likely a dancer will get in your box to offer friendly advice on how to best improve your appearance. :-) If i can sum up this image in one word, it would be "quality" TheMadAlice03: If the five clubs that are part of AEG, would be some high fashion models, how would characterize and describe them? Phil Kearny: I would have to say that we combine old and new at the same time.

We are Christie Brinkley - 60 and freaking fabulous. We are Kate Upton - Fresh perky boobies and zero gravity. TheMadAlice03: Last but not least, from your point of view, what do you think kept this brand the best in SL? Phil Kearny: We try harder, work longer, never take our eye off the ball and never ever give up. We ignore the haters and learn from our mistakes.

La Galleria

F i n e L i v i n g a n d D i n i n g i n S e co n d L i f e®

Article by Prisilla S. Avro - Pamela Galli has been in Second Life® since 2007. Curiosity was the driving force behind her arrival on the grid, but it was the ability to create that keeps her here. La Galleria started out as items in her home that she created and set for sale. Once Galli began to create more than her home could hold, she expanded. La Galleria is presently housed on four neighboring sims, and offers a variety of homes such as modern, beach, cottages (of varying sizes), family homes and villas. There is also a garden center for your landscaping needs, and furnishings for every space in your home.

“I make 95% of my mesh myself, so you will not see the things in my store re-textured and sold everywhere,” – Pamela Galli, Founder

Galli has grown along with the changes in SL from prim based creations to mesh. She remarked, “I started learning to make mesh several years ago, so it has been a challenge, but I really do love creating mesh.” Her passion and talent certainly show in her classic, well-made designs.

One of the things that makes Galli’s designs stand out from the rest is their originality. “I make 95% of my mesh myself, so you will not see the things in my store re-textured and sold everywhere,” she commented. Galli is generous with her creations. Join her mailing list and you will find at least one gift, if not more, per week. Negativity I N

T H E

By Desireme Fallen (Rewrite by Jett Aldrin) I remember when I used to pick up the various fashion magazines in Second Life®, and look at the fabled creatures that were pictured within. I remember wishing I were one of those beautifully styled beings, coiffed within an inch of their life, posed in artistic ways to display their wares. Since then, I have become a Second Life® model myself. And at first, I saw the fashion world as a fresh, innovating, amazing community I wanted to belong to. At the time, I was still seeing things through rose-colored glasses. But then I began to notice the flip side of our industry. The fashion world has a dark side that can be cruel and merciless. In this article, I hope to explore why it exists and what can be done to stop it. The Second Life® fashion community has some within, and some that are not part of this industry, who make it their goal to tear people down. There are endless online posts saying mean and malicious things about others, written by people who hide behind a pseudonym. While doing research for this article, both online and by asking various models in the industry, I was directed to sites such as Agency Report. On their website, Agency Report states that they are “a website that is geared to help Second Life® Models make informed decisions on modeling agencies, modeling schools, modeling contests and really any business pertaining to modeling. By reading comments and experiences of others, models will be able to see which

F A S H I O N

ones to steer away from and which ones to pursue. It’s full disclosure!” That's an excellent reason to have such a website. However, the site is mostly full of not-so-nice posts that have nothing to

The fashion world has a dark side that can be cruel and merciless. do with Agency Report’s credo. And even though there seems to be some truth there, and some people who ask genuine, serious questions, most of the posts are just tearing down individuals. In fact, many of the posters have obviously fake names. If you have a valid point about something, why hide? I realize there may be a fear of being blackballed by agencies and designers, which may or may not be true. But why not just talk to that person, perhaps make a suggestion for improvement rather than tearing that person, agency, model, etc., to shreds? If it is a legitimate problem, or people are

W O R L D

being taken advantage of, by all means tell! But what purpose is served when you live to destroy? You just hurt the person to the point they lose confidence, or become afraid that every time they set foot upon a runway, someone is sitting in the audience waiting to post something negative about them. We all have enough real life stress without adding more from a virtual world! This is Second Life®, and not real life, some fail to remember that, at the end of the day, it is still a game. On another site, one post dealt with how lousy the posing was. There are many reasons why some hold a pose longer than necessary, or use the same poses over and over. Perhaps that model does not have enough money to get more poses at this time, (real life being as it is for many in this downward economy). SL lag, real world distractions, and just even plain nervousness also come into play. There was another comment made about how some models look either pretty or “noobish.” It is the same with real life models...they are beautiful creatures that we like to look at! Does that make them the most beautiful in the world? No! Does it make them unique looking? Again no! It makes them very lucky to have been discovered! There are some very beautiful women in the world, who have never been seen by the real fashion powers that be. So we take a handful of women and say they are the best among women? Rubbish!

In Second Life®, there is one man, (and contest) who is the most maligned in the fashion industry. When I was thinking of trying out for Miss Virtual World, I was told so many bad things about the contest. Did I win? No! But I had the best experience of my modeling career! I loved the challenges and the theatrics of it all. It pushed me to be the best I can be, and it taught me to think outside my normalcy. The competitiveness was there, but not the nastiness I was told to expect. In fact, based on my own experience, I found Frolic Mills to be very nice. I had a personal, potential issue of not being able to afford to stay in the contest. He told me not to worry about it...that they would help! He was so approachable, understanding, and caring that I failed to see the reason for all the negative talk about him, and the Miss Virtual World Contest.

Unfortunately, there are models that feel they deserve to win, or be included in, a specific contest or pageant, who say some not-so-nice things in rants and public posts when they don’t get what they think they deserve. In the past, some have even

need to judge? We are not politicians or heads of state that affect the well being of millions of human beings. These are virtual world people, agencies, events, organizations or contests. Why as a virtual society are we obsessed with judging? There are endless posts on Facebook and other websites that attack virtual people,

created an “alt” to increase their chance of winning or being included, (for those not familiar with that term, an “alt” is another avatar people create in Second Life® to play in addition to their main avatar account). When I see this, I have to ask myself: why? I can only draw the conclusion that no matter who runs a contest, or what contestants are in it, there will always be some who will disagree with the final selections and/or results. Anyone can have a contest. So why not get together with others who are likeminded with you, and plan a contest you think is fair and more transparent? It will be ran the way your group thinks is best for all, and with your own ideology. Perhaps you can bring something new to the grid in doing so!

including models, agencies, designers, creators, or what have you. Behind the avatar are real human beings, who in some instances are very fragile in real life. It needs to stop! Second Life® is big enough for all of us to exist peacefully. It is a place where we can all show compassion, where we can all help each other. We are destroying our own selves from within. If we continue on this road, no one will want to be part of a world that tears down its own. If we do not stop, eventually there will be no fashion industry within Second Life®.

Many of the people who write these negative posts are actually quite brilliant and articulate individuals, who have an excellent, well-informed knowledge base, and know exactly what they are talking about. In fact, Second Life®'s fashion community would be richer if some of these very brilliant people would put that same energy, knowledge, and know how into making our fashion world the best it can be.

LLEN

A friend of mine once said that when you put yourself in the public eye, such as being a model, you open yourself to being judged. I thought about what she said, and it has validity. Even so, why do we feel the

DESIREME FA

Some have said that it is a "fixed" contest, and the winner is already chosen by Frolic in advance. We all had to work our butts off to style for those very exciting, and "out there," challenges. We all had the same chance to impress the judges. Yet, I would continue to hear rumblings that it’s fixed or that Frolic wants “so and so” to win. From my vantage point, I just didn't see that. The only suggestion I have for improvement is for them to display scores for both the models and the audience to see. There are several contests, both in real life and Second Life® that reveal the individual score of each contestant. However, it is their contest, and their brand, and they can do whatever they wish regarding disclosures and how their contest is managed. I enjoyed being in the

contest, and feel that it is one of my career highlights as an SL model.

In Second Life®, we like to look at beautiful women too. If someone does something to make their face more distinctive than others, good for them! If an avatar is beautiful, shouldn't we just celebrate their beauty instead of bashing it? Beauty, just like anything else, is subjective to the eyes of the beholder. There is no entity that has put us in charge of others to deem them unsuitable, and yet some feel the need to “police” other people. Again, if you feel you have a good reason to offer constructive criticism, why not tell that person in private, and not the whole world?

THE ARCADE By Prisilla S. Avro - There is little doubt those reading this do not know what The Arcade is, but even still an introduction is in order. The Arcade is a major shopping event in Second Life® that showcases some of the finest content creators on the grid. This isn’t just a shopping event however, it is a gacha event where residents play machines much like penny arcade machines for L$25, L$50, L$75, or L$100 and the item they get in return could be one of the

in December 2013 which is twice the traffic clocked in the September 2013 event and does not include a substantial amount of shoppers, who zoom their cams in from adjacent regions and shop from off-sim sites). And our website had 36,810 visits and 214,063 page views in December 2013 alone.” There are several well-known residents involved with the successful operation of The Arcade. There are the owners,

advertised prizes from the designer that stocked that particular machine. Gacha shopping has become quite the pastime in SL. Residents enjoy the game of it as well as the trading of various gacha items. The Arcade will be open for its 7th quarterly round come the 1st of March. Umberto Giano shared some impressive facts that substantiate the overwhelming positive response to the event. “Based upon the avatar traffic count from last December’s gacha event, we expect approximately 70,000 visits on our main sim during the month of March (we clocked 65,000 visits to our main sim

Octagons Yazimoto (Pizza) - Event Organizer (Also co-owner of Collabor88), Katharine McGinnis - Operations Manager (Also owner of Intrigue Co.), Emery Milneaux - Art Director (Also owner of Commoner), and Umberto Giano - Public Relations (Also owner of The Grove Country Club Estates). There is also the staff: Qopi Nanelle, Celeste Forwzy, Corksoaker Gloom, and Marianne McCann (Head Chat Moderator). Style Kingdom was fortunate to talk to a few of those involved in this wildly popular event. Giano spoke for many when he expressed his reason for why

he has been in SL for as long as he has. “Without a few creative challenges I would probably get bored in SL and leave pretty quickly, so I credit fun, engaging projects, like The Arcade, for my continuing presence in Second Life.” When reflecting on the beginnings of The Arcade, Yazimoto shared, “I really missed gacha events. I thought they were coming back more prominently. Yet, there was too long of a lull without them, in my opinion. One silly conversation between some friends led to a serious proposition, and everything started falling into place. I believe our intention from the get-go was to make the event something special for both designers and shoppers. A place that was not only beautiful to look at, but offer great items by a diverse array of SL brands.” McGinnis explains the allure of the gacha. “I think what makes gacha machines fun is because it's a throwback to our childhood; there's something so nostalgic about them. Nearly everyone has experienced what it's like to take a coin to a vending machine, and anticipate what's to come. It's the not knowing what you're going to get, coupled with hoping that you'll get the one you've had your eye on, that makes you want to keep playing. A gacha is like a game, after all.” Milneaux summarizes the birth of The Arcade. “We knew we wanted to host a gacha event, but we weren't sure about a theme. In one of our first meetings, we challenged each other to think in terms black and white; ‘What was it we were wanting to create? What is gacha?’ When we broke it down, we concluded: Gacha is a game. We took it a step further; ‘If gacha's a game... continued on next page...

continued from previous page...

What, then, is a gacha event?’ Well, a room full of games; an arcade. Without hesitation, we unanimously agreed: Our gacha event would be called The Arcade. Once we had a name, our real research began and we found ourselves dazzled by turn of the penny arcades: the twinkle of their lights, the character of their Victorian architecture and the romance of it all. In its day, these arcades had to be something special, and we thought they could be special again within Second Life®.” Many events in SL are centered around a theme. When asked if this was true for the Arcade as well, Giano and Milneaux shared their thoughts. “When we first started organizing The Arcade, we went back and forth about themed rounds of the event. In the end, we decided against theming. I believe that decision has given our designers more creative freedom and has kept their gacha prizes eclectic, from one round to the next. As far as guidelines go, we ask that gacha prizes be tasteful as the events hosted on a G-rated sim. Prizes should be priced in increments of L$25, like a real life Arcade. And with every round, we want to see new content from our designers, so we don't allow recoloring, resizing or any other modifications of their previously released products.” Remarked Milneaux. Giano elaborated, “Because The Arcade is a quarterly event with each round taking place in a different season, and some of our vendors tend to go with seasonal themes, especially in winter. The December round is known for its Christmas and winter-related gachas - like Alouette's Santa's Workshop or 8f8's Post-Apocalyptic Xmas Tree Kit so I suppose the four seasons could be considered unofficial themes, but as long as vendors follow The Arcade's rules they are free to create whatever suits them.” Previous visitors to The Arcade may have noticed the same designers are not showcased every round. Designers

are invited to participate in The Arcade. Giano explains how designers are selected. “First and foremost we listen to what our patrons want. Customer-driven innovation is a key ingredient of The Arcade's success and deeply ingrained in our mindset. The Arcade's customers are more than just passive consumers, they are part of the experience. Their enthusiasm and passion is amazing, and they are always sharing ideas with us through our chat group (which is rarely quiet). In the end, at the beginning of each round we present them with a wellrounded assortment of gacha prizes from a curated collection of the grid's top designers and builders - everything from skins, hair, hats and shoes to animations, food, vehicles and furniture.” Yazimoto shares her feelings on the collection each round. “I can always feel confident in Arcade every time we open, because I know we've tried our best each round. Things have changed every round and the event continues to evolve, but every single round we have put our best foot forward as a team. I think that's what adds to the success of the event. Boogers has been with us since the beginning. They've grown a lot as a creator and it's fun to see it show with every Arcade round. I'm glad we're able to have an eclectic assortment of brands to provide something for everyone, and I think it's really neat that some brands try to make universal items that everyone can enjoy. It's definitely the spirit of Arcade.”

striving to make The Arcade bigger and better with each passing round.” Shared Milneaux. McGinnis sums up perfectly. “I think that the diversity of the participating brands, customers, photographers, and just about every walk of life is going to offer something pretty special. You'll meet new people in a beautiful environment, and have fun while doing so. What's more of there to ask?” The Arcade SLurl: http://maps. secondlife.com/secondlife/Country%20 Club/168/236/3115 The Gacha Galley SLurl (for off-sim shopping): http://maps.secondlife. com/secondlife/Casablanca%20 Bay/55/111/3107 For rules and more information about The Arcade, please visit their website: http://thearcadesl.com

Visitors to The Arcade should know that its group chat is part of the fun. McCann explains, “The Arcade's group chat is really half the fun of the event. More than just trading items you have for items you may want, it has developed into its own fun Arcade subculture of people and personalities. It's a big part of The Arcade's heart and soul.” “I'd hope that those who visit The Arcade see how much work goes into the event. The team's comprised of perfectionists and we're constantly

J’taime in Desir

Article by Elleonna Seraphin (Rewrite by Jett Aldrin) - Vivien Emerald, the mogul behind Desir Couture House, gave us an exclusive interview about her passion, and her great fashion label, Desir. Originally from southeast France, (near the Alps), this sweet lady learns different languages just so she can say, "I love you" to as many people as possible. She loves to try new things, (even some by mistake), always expects the unexpected, and likes surprises too. When she first logged in Second Life, she was already interested in all things creative. Soon she began

exploring and saw all these clothes. Wondering how they were made, she decided to learn how to make some. Eventually, after lots of trial and error, she decided to learn modeling to better understand what was needed in terms of fashion. She wanted to learn how clothes respond to poses, and what were the practical difficulties when wearing a garment. “So I studied at MVW academy and practiced runway,” Vivien said. “Eventually I decided to open my shop DESIR. In March it will be its second anniversary.”

Her goal from the very beginning was to create quality outfits that would also reflect her passion for culture in different parts of the world. So, she tried her best to use real life inspiration as well as imagination triggered by emotions, moods, or seasons. “I felt also taking part in events has been always a great opportunity for me to learn more, to get closer to people and to grasp the true meaning of friendship and solidarity which to me are essential, in Second Life and Real Life,” Vivien said. As she became aware of various fashion and

charity events like competitions, Miss Metaverse, Miss Mundo Virtual, Miss Virtual World, and others, the idea for Desir really started to develop in her mind. In fact, participating in these events became important to her, because she felt personally touched by them; whether it was to defend a good cause, or to showcase the identity of a person by creating a gown that conveys their unique personality. Elleonna Seraphine: What inspires your designs? Vivien Emerald: It can be a mood, a feeling, a color, a season, or a person, pretty much anything really! Elleonna Seraphine: Do you have a particular style for your designs? Are they formal, traditional, etc? Vivien Emerald: I tend to stick with formal gowns, evening gowns, but I have a soft spot for things Asian and lately I have designed several outfits inspired by South American countries. I did make a few kimonos at the very beginning. These latest designs have been inspired by different regions of Venezuela. These outfits have been created for contestants of Miss Venezuela Virtual. Elleonna Seraphine: What is the biggest encouragement for you to make Desir's dresses? Vivien Emerald: My biggest encouragement was mainly to create dresses that would embody my dreams, just like someone would create a beautiful place to recreate a place they have had in their minds. Elleonna Seraphine: What is your opinion about fashion in Second Life? Vivien Emerald: Oh, it is very diverse, I am always admire of designers able to recreate outfits that resemble or even look better than Real Life one. Love also fashion that is not just modern or avant garde but also more fantasy, like just out of a

dream, mainly because it is possible in Second Life and less possible in Real Life. I like the fact every aspect of fashion is represented in Second Life. I like both Real Life looking fashion in Second Life as well as more fantasy. As you know w in Real Life it's difficult to wear evening gowns as soon as we wake up but in Second Life it is possible. I do love to find special outfits in charities, because they are unique, but also because they are for a good cause.

Elleonna Seraphine: What is your hope for Desir in the future? Vivien Emerald: I hope DESIR to develop more in terms of what it can offer. For the moment I mainly do evening gowns and cultural based outfits, but I would like to see one day male outfits and more casual ready to wear outfits for both men and women. I also would like DESIR to continue to be part of charity events and major fashion events as it touches

Vivien Emerald , picture by Skip Staheli

Elleonna Seraphine: Who do you think would be best to wear the title of Desir's Muse? Vivien Emerald: It would have to be a woman who shows comparison, a will to share about her culture whether she is from Europe, Asia, America or even Antarctica. It should be a woman who's elegance show not only in the way she dresses but how she behaves and a lady who likes to share what she knows and able to inspire others. It will be difficult to name just one. I have several names in my head, one is Ponchituti Boucher who is my Second Life sister, but also Xia Firethorn who also is my Second Life sister but there are others. So again, it will be a very difficult task to name just one.

more people and could potentially help. Bridal gowns are also something I really would like to develop in the future. I always have been extremely pleased with the ladies and gents that have worked with me on my projects. I can only look forward to the future. Recently I had the last fashion show of DESIR (which was produced and filmed by AIM agency), I worked along with Kathryn Dassin of Moondance Couture, who provided the nails for each dress showcased. What I was going to say was I am going to continue working along other designers, such as Kathryn Dassin in the future and hopefully soon with a jewelry designer. She is a fantastic designer and a beautiful friend. Lazuri. Hopefully soon I will make the shop bigger to have more space for more creations.

Do you want to learn more about photography, or want to refine your photography skills? We have a great interview with one of Second Life’s great photographers, Ashia Denimore, and her photography classes, Pixel Icon. Check them out!

Interview by Elleonna Seraphine (Rewritten by Jett Aldrin) Elleonna Seraphine: What inspired you to create Pixel Icon? Ashia Denimore: Photography has always been a huge part of my Filipino culture. From the moment I set foot in SL, I have always been a fan of great artists who make great photos here. And as a photographer in my early SL years, I noticed there is no school for photography. We only learned from helping each other, sharing tips and tricks. ES: What do you want to achieve? AD: I want to be able to help new and upcoming photographers. Most of the people I meet that know RL photography are challenged by SL photography and want to learn, because SL and RL photography are very different from each other. ES: What you expect from your students?

about SL that made me think twice, (laughs). But later on, there was huge step in my RL that brought me here :) ES: How did you start taking pictures in SL? AD: Like I said, I have always been fascinated by SL photography. Curiosity made me start taking pictures. ES: How is SL photography nowadays for you / your achievement? AD: I am pretty much comfortable with the photos I am creating, but I have been distracted with other stuff. I do many things on SL including modeling, managing, producing, etc. ES: What do you like, and dislike, about SL Photography? AD: I like to be creative, so that is one thing I like about SL a lot. In SL, you can create things. You can push boundaries and challenge yourself. The sky is the limit.

AD: I like to see them blossom and become famous photographers of their own. I have some students that are really successful, and it makes me happy seeing them. *waves to them, they know who they are* :)

ES: What unforgettable experience do you get from teaching your students?

ES: Can you tell us the story about the creation of Pixel Icon?

ES: What is your message to all new photographers, and your students?

AD: My two friends and I, back in 2009, decided to collaborate and open a studio. It was a BDSM theme then. Later on, it focused on couples shots. Then it evolved to family photography, and then event photography, and then later on we took on weddings. Weddings by far was the most fulfilling and good income for me.

AD: Don’t give up. They say marriage is the hardest for the first couple of years, and it’s true. It’s the same when learning photography.

ES: What brought you to SL? AD: Oh, this is very interesting question for me. My friend from a 2D game called Palace, I have known her since 2002, invited me on SL around 2005. But I just didn’t try it till 2008, since I have good friends in Palace that didn’t want to move to SL. Also, she said some bad things

AD: I like it when students tell me they learned a lot, and seeing them grow as a photographer too.

AD: Pixel ICON is hand-in-hand, they can reach me anytime within the schedule. I also have a group called “Fresh Photographer Team.” It’s basically a group of my previous students, but it is open to public and free to join. You can ask questions about photography there. ES: How should prospective students apply? AD: After reading the enrollment information on my website, pixeliconstudio.com, contact me directly to enroll. ES: Do they have to know basic photography in SL first? AD: Not at all. I teach basic photography in Pixel ICON. ES: Is it always in-class study, or do you offer Skype or SL voice lessons? AD: I offer all of the above :) ES: I saw that you have several levels of classes: 100, 200, 300, 400, etc. What do you expect from your students in each level? AD: In Photography 100, students learn how to work in Firestorm, and learn basic SL photography. Photography 200 and 300 will be tutorials on the basic tools of Adobe Photoshop. And Photography 400 is all about applying everything you have learned from each stage in HUD based activities. ES: What do you think they need to achieve very good quality pics?

ES: What makes Pixel Icon better than learning from YouTube or other websites?

AD: Patience, and practice, practice, practice.

AD: Pixel ICON is better because I am more interactive. Students can ask me questions in whatever platform they want. All I ask is they prepare their questionnaires before the meeting begins so we are not wasting both our time.

You can check the classes at http://pixeliconstudio.com/

ES: What is the difference between Pixel Icon and other schools? What can you offer that they do not?

Bouncer Criss an inter view with

M A L E

B LOGG E R

Interview by Paradox Messmer - I'm honored and excited to have joined the team of writers for Style Kingdom magazine! It's an even bigger honor for my first article to be an interview with a fantastic fashion blogger, Bouncer Criss, who has been deservedly selected as this issue's Male Blogger of the Month! Him and I shared an e-cigarette and sat down to chat about all things blogging; a passion we both share. Paradox Messmer offers a vapor cig to Bouncer, and takes a puff on one of his own. “It's good to meet you, Mr. Criss! I've been seeing your blog for a while now, and you've become quite prominent in the world of SL menswear blogging. How long have you been blogging and what motivated you to take it up?” Bouncer Criss: as a ex smoker, I'll take a puff off that vapor cig. I'm coming up on my third year of blogging in March. Time has flown by, and guys clothes have sure grown over the last three years. I was just a not-so-well-dressed noob before I started blogging, and a friend of mine turned me on to a guys blog that I started following. I wasn't really interested in blogging, but a chapter in my SL closed and I needed a new project, so Pixel Phasion 4 Men, my blog was born. PM: Well I think many male residents will be thankful that this is what story began out of that new chapter in your SL experience! Do you like to focus on fashion news? Is your tendency to focus sharing the latest releases from your favorite designers, or do you like to mix it up. BC: I try to focus on mens fashion, mixing up new releases with some of my favorite older clothes. The different events around SL, you can find some great new stuff for men. It hasn't always been that way for guys fashion in SL. Back when I first started blogging, there was a handful of quality mens shops. Its great to see a lot of new designers coming along, and I look forward to see what new stuff comes out in the future. PM: Indeed, we are totally spoiled now in the selection of clothes, hair, skins and even accessories out there for pixels of the male persuasion. As an SL old-timer, I remember buying women's designs and hairs to try to make them unisex because of how scarce men's stuff was (but I still do that lol). Who are some of your favorite newer designers that you see exciting potential in? BC: I see some newer designers coming out of The Mens Dept. Designers like Aphroism, EPIA both make nice clothes. Eudora has made some kick ass shoes I've seen lately. Remarkable Oblivion

O F

T H E

M O N T H

makes some awesome mesh accessories that I look at, and wish I could make and texture mesh like he does.

PM: Ohh yes RO always blows me away. I'm extremely excited about Eudora too, being a footwear fanatic. We're definitely lucky to have Men's Dept. Do you blog officially for TMD or other monthly sales? I know you have a pose store as well, your own business, and it's quirky, very sexy stuff! It must be hard to manage the time between both. BC: I'm pretty fortunate to be able to blog for a couple of monthly events, other than TMD. The others are very female friendly events, but have a few items for the guys. My pose store kind of just happened, it wasn't really planned. I was making a lot of my own poses for different blog posts, so I put them in a small store on a shopping sim. Over the past two years, Bounce This Poses just kept growing, and it's now in a much bigger store. Blogging is what I enjoy the most, so sometimes it's months before I get to add new poses. PM: Yeah, blogging is serious addiction once you get into doing it. And you've always got commitments with reviewing when you've got sponsors and you're covering fashion events. It's good to hear you enjoy it so much, though. What are some tips you could give guys who are new to blogging or considering doing it? BC: I enjoy blogging, and tips for bloggers to be. Well I'd say set some goals for yourself. Like "I wanna be the best RP blogger," or "I want to take SL by storm and be the best blogger ever.” If you're on a budget, blog hunts and freebies. Blog what you enjoy about SL and what you enjoy wearing in SL. Try and learn some basic photoshop stuff, or some other editing software. It will really help make your pictures stand out. Have FUN! SL is play dress up, so may as well enjoy it! PM: Very well said! It really is just playing dress up with our Ken dolls, although at least in SL our dolls can be anatomically correct! Haha. Well, that's all very solid advice to aspiring bloggers and photographers, and I think that's a good place to wrap up this interview. It's been a total pleasure to chat with you Bouncer, and thank you for keeping the men of SL consistently fashion informed and de-noobified for 3 years going strong! We look forward to seeing more from you on the blog front and in pose making. BC: It's been a pleasure, love y'alls magazine, and great interview Dox!
