MODA, Modelling Academy of the Month INTERVIEW WITH NONI ABEYANTE The fashion industry and Second Life have something in common: They are constantly changing. It’s rare to see someone last a long time in the fashion profession and SL. Well I got the chance to talk with someone who’s defied both odds. Read on to learn about her journeys in both cultures. Sarahelisebeth Brenham: How did you first discover modeling? Noni Abeyante: 2005 is my original start date in Second Life. The first year was spent learning about SL and gawking at, the then, gorgeous styled avatars. The images of the models in the stores intrigued me. What struck me most was the absence of images of women of color and especially women of color behind the avatar. So, I set out to be a model of color and be the best model I could be. There were lots of dead ends and disappointments. Finding my way was not easy but I persevered. There are several people in those early years that really helped me along the way and I am forever grateful. SB: Have you had any training as a model? NA: Yes, I graduated from MODA Modeling School in 2006, and subsequently trained at Wings and Dalian where I also worked under their agency. Wings and Dalian are no longer in business but I was very fortunate to be surrounded by dedicated people who were dedicated to the business as well as mentoring their models. Whenever I think of those days, I think "markers" and being a nervous wreck wanting to get it right. The training I received was thorough, intense, and still applicable to today. While modeling for other agencies and freelancing, I stayed on at MODA. Under the wings of its CEO Jujudoll Dancer, I learned the ins and outs of the fashion industry and helped implement what MODA is today, home to MODA Modeling School and MODA Fashion Primetime. SB: What advice would you give to new models?

NA: Advice to new models? This is a tough question because each model has something that is unique to them. It could be their amazing ability to style, they have a unique avatar, or they are skilled on the runway. This makes it all subjective. Having all of those qualities makes an exceptional model that is always in demand. Having said that, It is rare that a model can have a long successful career in modeling without all of those things present. My advice to incoming models is to attend a reputable modeling school and be vigilant in keeping up skills, always taking it to the next level. There is another attribute that is of importance to me and that is being marketable with skills that are an asset to the fashion industry as well as contributing in some way to the SL community. Don't just be a pretty face. SB: What do you enjoy doing outside of modeling? NA: Digital Art is my passion. I describe myself as "work in progress". I do like capturing Second Life. I gravitate towards mixed media art and feel most comfortable in it. My work is not directed at a particular audience but is a personal expression and left to the viewer's interpretation and hope they enjoy what I do. SB: Do you have any New Year resolutions? NA: Yes, devote more time to my passion, spend less time working and getting out and exploring Second Life. I’d like to thank Noni Abeyante for taking the time to chat with me.

MSCHEVIA RESIDENT, Female Model of the Month I have had the honor of interviewing many people. But this latest interview I had the most fun with, as it was someone I attended a modeling school with. Read on to experience all the fun I had in completing this task! sarahelisebeth Brenham: How did you first get interested in modeling? MsChevia Resident: Well, I was shopping one day and happened to walk into a crowd going to an OGlam show. I distinctly remember seeing Linda Reddevil walk. Up to that time I didn't know about modeling at all. When I saw her... I decided that was what I HAD to do in SL. The cool thing is that Linda and I are friends today and I still love her styling and her blog. SB: I remember when you and I attended Mimmi Boa Modeling Academy, have you had any other training? MCR: Yes, I recently graduated from Avenue Modeling Academy as well. my first school was with SD Daminao at Catskilz - and I still remember that training with great fondness. SB: What have you done with your modeling education? MCR: well my main focus these days is to do charity work. I am a co-founder of Stand Tall, an anti-bullying effort. I also am involved with Bea Serendipity's SL say No campaign to end violence against women around the world. I am learning photoshop and being tutored in Photography by my best friend, VeronicaLynn Parx. My goal is simply to make fashion art.

the love of the ART not fame. Fame is so fleeting, but the things you learn as a model can last a lifetime. SB: Can you please elaborate on how you're non traditional? MCR: There are a couple of paths people tned to take - MVW being one. I decided after a couple of "pageant" that I am not a beauty queen. That path is good for some, I just don't happen to be one. I find I prefer the Linda Reddevils and Absi Montenegro's of second life - those who take these creations and use them to create art - in print, or on a runway. That is the path i have chosen - to be a good model, not a beauty queen. Maybe my perception is wrong, but I tned to think that is pretty non-traditional. SB: What do you enjoy outside of modeling? MCR: I really enjoy and find alot of relaxation in second life in general. I am constantly amazed by the fact that everything we see has been created - it is ALL art. So, I explore alot, and take pictures. I love live music and dancing as well. SB: Last question: Do you have any New Year's Resolutions? MCR: I haven't thought of one in particular yet, but it will most likely have something to do with resolving to be the best person I can be every day. SB: Thank you for taking time to talk with me MCR: Thank you! It was fun. :)

SB: What advice would you give to new models? MCR: Well, I am probably not the best person to ask that :) I tend to be a bit of a non-traditional model. My mantra? To be ME, the best me I can. That is not always everyone's cup of tea. :) But seriously... model for

SEQUIOA NIGHTFIRE, Event Organiser Of The Month There are many stereotypes in the World. One such stereotype is that many feel that people of importance are snobby. I’m here to dispel this myth. I got the chance to talk with one of Second Life’s top model, who also is a modeling instructor. As you read this article, you will discover that this woman does not fit the supposed mold of someone of her status. Sarahelisebeth Brenham: You have been in modeling for a long time, how did you get started? Sequioa Nightfire: i was in a place and i saw this girl who had bad mouthed my style applying for a position at a store as an in store model and so i put my style to the test. I applied and out of 100 applicants I was chosen. SB: Did you receive any training as a model? SN: I went to Face2Face Academy. My instructor left before graduation so we girls managed quite a bit on our own. It was a wonderful growing experience. SB: How did you get involved with the Mimmi Boa Modeling Academy? SN: Mimmi Boa came to my rescue and helped me understand the direction, we became instant friends. I tarted an agency called Mode Rage and Salvo Waydelich was Mr Virtual World and Mimmi who was an entrant inthe MVW came to work with me as partners in the agency. I started an agency called Mode Rage and Salvo Waydelich was Mr Virtual World and Mimmi who was an entrant in the MVW came to work with me as partners in the agency. It was short lived because i took my interest elsewhere, but Mimmi and i remained friends as i continued my own career. She came into the need for an instructor sometime after she opened the doors to the academy and I came to be the US instructor.

SB: What advice would you give to new models? SN: To not be in a hurry to be a star. Enjoy the progression of building a career and a good reputation while enjoying the artistry of the designers. Experiment and become a fashion leader and strive to push yourself out of your comfort to bring the best of your abilities to be seen. Most of all be yourself , there is absolutely no one that can be a better you , than you! SB: What do you enjoy doing outside of modeling? SN: I joy the creative nature of Second Life. i build , relationships, buildings, events i enjoy making something from an idea to fruition. I am working on my annual event Peace On Earth now. I do that hunt every year. It is my one and only hunt I founded back in Winter of 2008. It must be said that Reign Congrejo makes it possible for me to host the POE again this year. SB: One last question: Do you have any New Year's Resolutions? SN: In SL i would like to see more coverage of the COC across the entire grid and to see more attention being given to the issue of human trafficking. It’s my hope I can make an impact in SL in reference to the above mentioned. SB: I appreciate you taking the time to talk with me.
