confessions of a shopaholic
T
his is, without a doubt our hottest issue yet. We’ve crammed our pages with fabulous content and the latest in fashion and accessories, to give you a reason to spoil yourself with something sparkly this season. And why not? You work hard, and you deserve to treat yourself a little.
Dimi Ingle Editor and Publisher
I’m a shopaholic, and I’m sure many girls will agree with me that shopping is a sport and the more you practice, the better you get. But, even the most professional, talented shopaholic can get a little annoyed with the process at times. Nothing puts a damper on your shopping spree quite like over-crowded malls, long queues, rude sales people and finding an item you love, but not finding it in your size or colour. For this reason, we’ve introduced a whole new way to shop right here on StyleScoop. You now have the freedom to buy certain items featured on our pages, at the click of a button. How fabulous is that? If an item has a red and white shopping bag graphic next to it, it means you can click-and-buy it online. No more having to head out to the mall, hunting for something you saw on our pages. Think of it as shopping ecstasy, but with none of the agony and we hope to convert our whole mag soon. Don’t forget to enter our competition, where you could win a Boudoir Photo Shoot worth R1500. Until next time, Have a fabulous July!

P
ear shapes usually have small boobs, a long waist, a flat tummy, saddle bags and heavy legs. All their redeeming qualities can be found on the top half. These are the gals with toned arms, a taunt tummy and perky boobs, which can slip easily into delicate tops..... Lucky pears! Their issues however, life further South, specifically in the thigh region and lower legs, where the calves usually lack definition. If you are a pear, this handy guide will help you dress to impress and look pear-fect.
•
Invest in a fabulous, tailored jacket in a sensational shade, to attract attention to your upperassets.
•
Go for pretty shirts in delicate fabrics to enhance your femininity. Puff sleeves are great as they too, enhance the size of your shoulders.
•
Skirts should be long and a-line, covering up your pins.
S Tailored jacket from
The Biggest Mistakes...
FOSHINI
Steer clear of miniskirts and bearing those legs at all costs! If you love skirts, keep them on the knee or just below. If you have heavy calves, avoid shoes with ankle straps, as these drastically shorten the appearance of your legs. Other no-no’s are skinny jeans, pencil skirts, cut on the bias dresses and stilettos. All of these will only emphasise your chunky thighs and calves. Add these to your shopping basket... •
Glamorous shrugs and boleros attract attention to your top half and they broaden your shoulders, which in turn, balances out your hips.
S Waistcoat, AMALI from EDGARS

•
Tops with a shallow lashed neckline widen the appearance of your shoulders, bringing them into balance with your hips and thighs.
•
Strapless prom dresses are perfect for you. The strapless style broadens your shoulders and a skirt that flairs from the waist, will skim over your problem zones. Dress this look down by wearing a simple tee over the top or a collared shirt. To dress it up go for a shrug and gorgeous heels.
•
Straight-cut boots are a god send for covering up stocky calves, just remember to wear straight chunky heels or platforms to minimise the heft of your legs. Steer clear of ballet flats or any flats really – your legs will benefit from a heel.
•
Trousers should be flat fronted and wide legged, skimming over your saddle bags to elongate those legs. Avoid side pockets, clinging fabrics and light colours.
•
Because your legs are short in comparison to your torso, try layering shorter tops (or a waistcoat in winter) over longer tops as this helps balance everything out. Your trouser length should hit the floor
•
Start your collection of fail-safe coats. Your best options are coats that are fitted, have a narrow lapel (to broaden your shoulders), and that are three quarter or knee length (to cover those thighs).
•
Finally, invest in a confidence boosting push up bra, wear a shrug or gilet if showing off your top
half makes you feel a bit scrawny, and know that string bikinis will elongate your legs and reduce the appearance of your saddlebags. Invest in some statement jewellery and emphasise your best bets – everything from the hips up! Apples hold onto your socks – catch my article for dressing for your shape in next month’s edition of the StyleScoop Digital Glossy Magazine!

I
am not sure why, but it seems 1-3 hour delays are ‘normal’ in the Fashion world. Commenting on the lack of punctuality at fashion shows and fashion events, is the same as parading around with a massive sign saying “DO NOT SPEAK TO ME I am a NOBODY in the FASHION INDUSTRY”.
Therefore, if the shows are running fashionably late no one makes too much fuss, and people simply go on chatting and sipping on cocktails. I often marvel at this relaxed attitude, as I live in a world that is governed by the clock. Time is an interesting concept. Some people are very relaxed about their punctuality, whilst others value their time tremendously and do not appreciate it being wasted.

cadenza with one of the models? At these events, I have also noticed how things tend to get started when certain individuals make their entrance - a power trip perhaps? I choose to understand this phenomenon by drawing a parallel between wearing stilettos and attending a Fashion Show. Wearing a gorgeous pair of heels is often unbelievably painful, but the effect of wearing beautiful shoes is incomparable. Waiting for a Fashion Show may be painful, but in the end it is so worthwhile - giving you an intoxicating mix of drama and art. So, if you do go to a Fashion Show or a fashion related

Various cultures have different notions as to what is considered punctual. In China, it is apparently required for the people to arrive 5 minutes before the arranged time, whilst in Ghana a 3 hour delay is more acceptable. Interestingly, this is the phenomenon that became known as “African time”. “African time” is a colloquial term used to describe a perceived cultural tendency, in some parts of Africa, toward a more relaxed attitude to time schedules, meetings and appointments. As most SS readers will know, Arise African Fashion Week 09 recently took place in Sandton. ‘Fashion’ and ‘African’ in one sentence - Im sure you can imagine how late they were running? I am a wedding planner, therefore I thrive on time schedules and punctuality. Ever since I started attending Fashion events I have learnt that the term ‘fashionably late’ is pretty much on trend within those circles. I sometimes imagine what must be happening backstage… Perhaps a designer is having a melt-down, or maybe there is some

event, expect that it will probably run late. Be prepared and come armed with friends (not a husband/boyfriend, as those always end up moaning the most). Have fun with your pals and enjoy a few drinks together, as you indulge in a delightful mix of sight seeing, spotting celebs, designers, models, and weirdly dressed people.

THE NEW BLACK
It’s empowering, it’s strong, it’s beautiful, it’s sexy, it’s private, it’s you... and a bit of guts!
B
oudoir is the new black and everyone wants a piece! Only, this piece comes in the form of gorgeous, sensual photographs of yourself for yourself, or for that special someone in your life. Boudoir photo shoots are done in an elegant, yet playful manner. They allow you to be sexy but remain beautiful. All in the company of a photographer, whom you feel completely comfortable with. I mean, let’s face it, when you’re wearing skimpy lingerie or asked to get under the covers in the buff, the last thing that will go through your mind is flirting with the camera. That is where Yvette de Beer from Innovate Photo has been able to provide this comfort space to her clients, and still produce pretty hot and tempting images!

There are many ways to take ‘boudoir’ photos. Some are done in black and white, some with your partner and some, even completely in the nude. “For me, I feel comfortable enough to not have to resort to doing nude full frontal, yet still deliver sensational images each to their own of course” says Yvette. There are many photographers out there that do the most fantastic and artistic nudes. So it really comes down to what the client wants from this experience. “I have had clients starting out feeling a little bit awkward about flashing their girly bits in front of me, but at the end of the shoot, they are literally smouldering in their own skin and the proof is in the pudding”, says Yvette. This type of shoot boosts your self-esteem and confidence and every woman should have one.
a boudoir photoshoot worth R1500! Innovate Photo and Yvette de Beer are giving one lucky StyleScoop reader the chance to have their own, professional boudoir shoot.
