12 - PUBLISHER’S NOTE

> Here at Orlando Style, we always try to take a positive approach to the ongoing events in our everyday life, but the fact remains that for every “up” there seems to be a corresponding “down,” almost like a never-ending roller coaster ride. I just hope that once this note is in your hands, our politicians will have found a way to finally use their “brain” to make wise decisions for the general public and not only for themselves.

Lawrence Zarian & Sven Bode - Photo by Brion Price

Many businesses have had a nice start this year, and we don’t want that to be interrupted by some elected officials who hopefully won’t have their titles come next election. It is important to keep these businesses close to heart as we enter the holiday season, and we should all look for ways to support our great shops and malls that add to the uniqueness of our city. In this issue of Orlando Style, we present many wonderful options for your luxury holiday shopping, with a focus on benefiting the local economy with your everyday and holiday gift purchases. Spending your “gifting” dollars at our friendly and familiar retailers is as much a gift to them as to those on your list, adding extra meaning to the act of giving. Speaking of giving, we still offer wonderful subscription packages, a perfect gift idea for a friend or simply a treat for you. $1 profit from every new subscription will be donated to Runway to Hope Foundation, which aids children and their families impacted by pediatric cancer, one of the wonderful charities here in Orlando, which will keep us in the giving mood long after the holidays. For those “hunting and pecking” through the tentacles of event post coverage or searching the myriad of scheduled events to find the next best party, we offer the

simplicity of accessing this information through our website. Make it a point to “Get on the LIST!” by signing in at www. OrlandoStyleMagazine.com for continuous updates on the amazing events and parties that are sure to impress. If you are planning an event and lacing on attendees, ask us how we can help to make it a successful happening. Every week a combined number of more than 15,000 opt in members receive our weekly digital news, NewsToMe, and an additional combined audience of more than 25,000 is getting in on the style buzz through our social media sites. We send our continued appreciation for the loyalty displayed by our many readers, contributors and advertisers in helping Orlando Style become the most influential magazine in the city and always intend to maintain our high level of excellence. We know you all will enjoy reading this issue and will be entertained by it as well. As always, we have a lot of fun putting it together for you! Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving surrounded by love of family & friends, and giving our very thanks to all of you. Sincerely,

THE BENEFIT TODAY IS TO RAISE MONEY AND AWARENESS FOR PEDIATRIC CANCER SO I WANT TO HELP BECAUSE THE MORE MONEY YOU HAVE, THE MORE RESEARCH YOU CAN DO AND THEN THE REST IS UP TO GOD.

We’ve got all the event highlights for you including Runway To Hope, an interview with celebrity guest Lawrence Zarian, and a sneak peek of upcoming fashion trends for fall!

FASHION - 17

> Who says you can’t have meaning behind fashion? Certainly not Mark and Josie NeJame, the co-founders of Runway To Hope. Orlando Style readers may remember this beloved organization from an article we published this past June about their beautiful spring fashion soiree. The award-winning philanthropy raises funds for pediatric cancer through various fashion-related events. This September, Runway To Hope was at it again with the help of Fashion Week at the Mall at Millenia. Fashion week took place September 12th-September 19th and was a thrilling event packed with fashion shows, in-store activities, special sales, celebrity guests, receptions and more. The festivities kicked off with a fashion show hosted by Mark Daniels, which featured the designs of students from the International Academy of Design and Technology. The next day, Neiman Marcus presented Project Beauty, a fashion show featuring cosmetic trends and beauty secrets. Following that was Fashion For All, an exciting fashion show with all the hottest trends for fall from select retailers: Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, Buckle, Cache, Carmen Steffens, GUESS, Lacoste and Macy’s. It was non-stop excitement all week long, but one of the undoubted highlights of Fashion Week was Sunday’s Runway to Hope Champagne Brunch. The brunch took place inside the Mall at Millenia and centered on a luxury brand designs fashion show. The event was hosted by style expert and TV host, Lawrence Zarian who has a special affinity for Runway To Hope and two important reasons for choosing to offer his support. “First of all, I know what it’s like to lose people you love to cancer,” says Zarian. “I’ve lost my mother, my father and my best friend to cancer. Second of all, I know what it’s like to have these children who are your world and to think of something happening to them. My nephews

are the loves of my life. If anything happened to them it would just devastate me. The benefit today is to raise money and awareness for pediatric cancer so I want to help because the more money you have, the more research you can do and then the rest is up to God.” Following the delicious brunch and fall collection runway presentation, attendees enjoyed exquisite Champagne and desserts. One lucky attendee even won a drawing for a fashion escape trip to Italy valued around $20,000. Afterwards, attendees got a chance to shop the Mall at Millenia and recreate some of the runway looks they fell in love with as select retailers hosted in-store activities, auctions and featured special incentives to benefit Runway To Hope. In addition, the Mall at Millenia donated 10% of proceeds from purchases in participating stores to the Runway To Hope organization. “I’m looking forward to raising money and people love fashion so whenever you can have passion behind fashion, I think it’s a win-win,” says Zarian. “If you create the event, if you create a lovely environment, if you have beautiful clothes and beautiful people, then people are going to want to be a part of that—it’s a celebration. A celebration of fashion and a celebration of life and I love the fact that it’s a runway to hope. A runway is a walkway and if we keep raising money, that puts hope right in the distance. Right at our grasp.” Fashion week at the Mall at Millenia was both a fun and memorable event, but in the real world, fashion isn’t something we only think about for one week out of the year. Fashion happens every single day and perhaps the most exciting thing about fashion is the fact that it’s constantly evolving! “Fashion is the one thing you can put on—if you choose the right piece—that makes you feel great,” says Zarian. “Ev-

erybody has a budget and everybody can only spend what they can afford, but if you choose wisely, then you can feel amazing every single day.” According to Zarian, when it comes to fashion, the must-haves never lose. The following are the four must-have items that he says every single woman should have in her closet: 1. A little black dress 2. A crisp, white dress shirt 3. A two-piece black suit 4. A black pencil skirt (if you are on the fuller figure side, you should have a black skirt that suits your physique) Once you have all these basic key pieces, then you can start adding in the trends. This fall, the trend is all about textures and the layering of different textures and fabrics. Plaid—specifically tartan plaid— is an excellent example. Plaid can be done through a wide variety of different elements. This fall you can do plaid shoes, a plaid bag, a plaid skirt or whatever other element your heart desires. Velvet will also be making a prominent appearance this upcoming fashion season. Leather is the third important trend to note this fall, but it’s no longer about basic black leather. This year it’s all about rocking colored leather (or pleather). After you’ve sprinkled some plaid, velvet and leather into your wardrobe, you’ll be all set to strut confidently and stylishly down the runways of your everyday life this fall. < For more fashion tips and advice on the latest trends, be sure to follow Lawrence Zarian on Twitter @LawrenceZarian. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT Style Events, News & Gossip from Around the City By Riesa Pascal

> The leaves are browner, the nights are cooler and turkeys have gone into hiding… you know what that means! Fall is officially here and the city of Orlando kicked off the highly anticipated season with an impressive lineup of thrilling, top-notch events. On September 19th, Bloomingdale’s Orlando brought Orlando Fashion Week to an exciting close as they hosted a private meet and greet with Daniella Clarke, creator and founder of the popular denim line Frankie B. Denim. VIP guests joined Clarke in the enjoyment of music, Champagne and treats as they previewed her Fall 2013 collection. It was hard not to fall in love with the various denim styles that came to life with an eye-popping mix of colors and textures. Attendees were also pleasantly surprised with an additional exclusive glimpse of the Spring 2014 collection. Afterwards, guests mingled with Clarke and took advantage of the opportunity given to book fabulous personal styling appointments at Bloomingdale’s.

muffuletta and sautéed gnocchi were just some of the mouth-watering menu items. One of the event highlights was an upbeat, live music performance by the New York Minute Band, which beautifully complemented the already superb evening. A Spanish guitarist and flamenco dancer even joined the band on stage for a memorable set that left guests feeling they had traveled to the heart of Spain instead of the esteemed luxury resort in Universal Orlando.

The fall season also brought with it the return of several premier annual events. On October 18th, the popular Harbor Nights was back at Loews Portofino Bay Hotel for a splendid evening of wine, food and jazz. The fantastic selection of fine wines included several from the notable Rioja region of Spain. Attendees also delighted in the enjoyment of gourmet food and delectable desserts. Butternut pumpkin ravioli, grilled Italian

On October 25th, the philanthropic organization Guys With Ties brought life and laughter to VAiN Nightclub in Downtown Orlando as they came together to host their 8th Annual “Costumes For a Cause.” The return of the beloved event was met with an impressive turnout of costumed guests who were ready and excited to have a great time. It was high energy all night long as attendees mingled and complimented one another

on the fantastic and often creative costumes. The group enjoyed complimentary drinks, a hilarious costume contest and most importantly, great company. Guys With Ties seek to raise money with local charities that focus on special needs of the Central Florida community. Proceeds from this fabulous event directly benefited Servant’s Heart Center and the Make A Wish Foundation. For 16 years, the Tales & Tails Gala has been a must-attend event and on October 26th, they proved that the 17th year would be no different. People from all walks of life, assistance dogs and their owners, dogs in training and puppy raisers, all came together for the 17th Annual Tales & Tails Gala at the gorgeous Rosen Shingle Creek-Orlando. It was an absolutely unforgettable night from beginning to end. The evening began with a lovely reception and silent auction, which was followed by a live auc-

CITY NEWS - 23

Also on October 26th, the charity-based culinary festival Cows ‘n Cabs (CNC) returned for the third edition of their hit event inspired by local cuisine. The evening festivities took place in Winter Park’s West Meadow and featured more than 200 wines, spirits and craft beer samplings all provided by Jim Beam, Budweiser and ABC Fine Wine & Spirits. A vast selection of gourmet food was also available for sampling by an elite group of invite-only, local restaurants. In addition, Drew Estate presented an on-site lounge that showcased its signature collection of cigars. Attendees of CNC delighted in all this and much more including a live musical performance, an on-site photo booth, a competitive game of “Wine Ring Toss” and even a silent auction featuring everything from spa treatments and sporting tickets to vacations and getaways. Last year, CNC raised more than $60,000 for three local charities. This year, 100% of ticket sales and auction item proceeds benefited the Community Food & Outreach Center as well as Elevate Orlando, which manages the mentoring of at-risk youth. Who doesn’t love Magic? Whether you’re an innocent, wideeyed child or an elderly skeptic. There’s just something about the mystery of illusion that can warm even the coldest of hearts! For four incredible nights from October 28th-31st, the Historic Dr. Phillips House in Downtown Orlando was transformed into the “Magic Mansion” which opened from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM daily for an interactive, close-up magic experience. Groups of families, couples, co-workers and friends spent hours walking through the mansion, taking in all the mind-boggling illusions and enjoying the elegant, sleight-of-hand magic. Of course, we can’t talk about magic without mentioning the other “magic” that this city knows and loves very well. The magicians featured within the Magic Mansion are also the official magicians of the Orlando Magic NBA team. They represent the renowned company SeeMagicLive.com, founded by CEO Kostya Kimlat, who was the host for these 4 thrilling days of magic and unforgettable fun. tion and exquisite dinner. 100% of the proceeds raised were directly for the benefit of the Southeast Region of Canine Companions. The organization provides free, highly trained assistance dogs to help and enhance the lives of people with disabilities. Each year, the Tales & Tails Gala never fails to put on a fabulously exceptional event and yet somehow they still manage to outdo themselves every time. This year, they truly went above and beyond in every way including the evening entertainment, Julie Scardina and Friends. The SeaWorld and Busch Gardens Ambassador is an animal expert with more than 20 years experience in animal training and care. Scardina had contagious excitement and enthusiasm as she took the stage with an array of exoctic animals. Event attendees were thrilled to share in her life-long love of animals and to simply be a part of this lovely evening.

CELEBRITY HOMES By Christine Okoye

do Matt Damon, Bruce Willis, Katy Perry, Leonardo DiCaprio and Sarah Jessica Parker have in common? They all have luxurious homes for sale. From Manhattan townhomes to million dollar Malibu Beach houses, these celebs are selling properties with monthly mortgages that cost more than what many people make in a year!

> What

MATT DAMON Matt Damon is known for his roles in movies such as Good Will Hunting, The Bourne Ultimatum and The Adjustment Bureau. His ability to wear many hats in the entertainment industry from actor to screenwriter and producer has earned him countless awards and made him millions. In 2005 Matt Damon bought a home on North Bay Road in Miami Beach for about $15 million. After meeting his wife, who was a bartender in Miami, he has moved on and seems to be more interested in focusing his life in Los Angeles where he bought a home on the same street as his long time friend Ben Affleck. Matt is hoping to make $5 million on his investment and has listed his extravagant waterfront property for a whopping $20 million. Listings show the 12,705-square foot home has seven bedrooms, nine full baths, a two-bedroom guesthouse, and amenities including a home theatre, custom office, and cavernous master bedroom suite with a spa bath and private terrace. Then there’s 170 feet of waterfront on beautiful Biscayne Bay, and neighbors including Barry Gibb, Dwyane Wade, Alex Rodriguez, and Chris Bosh. “From the moment you step inside the beautiful courtyard entrance, you are immediately surrounded by spectacular, sweeping panoramic views and you instantly begin to see what makes this property truly special,” said listing agent Jill Hertzberg. “This rare jewel in the heart of Miami Beach is an incredible setting for anyone lucky enough to enjoy the fabulous lifestyle this address provides.”

BRUCE WILLIS Bruce Willis is looking to cash out. The veteran action flick actor known for his roles in a number of major motion pictures such as G.I. Joe and Die Hard, just to name a few, listed another one of his real estate holdings earlier this year. Bruce listed his Beverly Hills home that he picked up in 2004 for $9 million for more than double that price at $22 million! The major increase in price is mainly due to the fact that South California real estate is a hot buy right now. Bruce and wife Emma Heming have also put a lot of work into the 10,379-square-foot home. Boasting 11 bedrooms and 11 baths, Willis’ home has large living spaces that open up to a courtyard with a fountain. The updated kitchen has a large center island and restaurant-quality appliances. Outside the home’s grounds include a tennis court and pool.

KATY PERRY Pop star sensation Katy Perry is determined to sell the mansion she bought with ex-husband Russell Brand. The California girl is ready to put the final connection to the relationship behind her once and for all. After listing the 7-bedroom, 11-bath Hollywood Hills home in April, the 28-year-old singer dropped her asking price by $430,000 again in June. Now listed for $6.495 million, Katy is asking $5,000 less than she and Russell Brand, a British actor and comedian, bought it for in 2011. The luxurious property is located on a 3-acre compound. Katy and Russell’s’ Spanish-style home has major curb appeal with a gorgeous gated entrance, notable architectural details and views of the Los Angeles cityscape. Other highlights of the property include a guesthouse built in 2004, a lagoon-style pool with waterfall and lofted ceilings throughout the residence, which create a spacious feel in the main living rooms.

LEONARDO DICAPRIO Leonardo DiCaprio, one of Hollywood’s A-listers, is probably best known for his starring role in the film Titanic and most recently The Great Gatsby. He’s earned countless awards and nominations. Now he’s selling his Malibu home for an astonishing $18.9 million. Leonardo’s Malibu beach house consists of three properties with a combined seven bedrooms and six bathrooms. The main house dominates the large lot, with a rooftop terrace, patio and deck, all facing the beach. Built in 1927, the home has high ceilings with exposed beams and an open floor plan leading straight out to the outdoor living spaces, taking advantage of the Malibu weather and spectacular views. Other amenities of the property include a gym, two kitchens, (one in the separate guesthouse), hardwood floors and floor-to-ceiling windows. The handsome A-list actor is motivated to sell his beach house because he prefers to spend his time on the East Coast where he has en eco-friendly penthouse in New York City and is apparently on the hunt for another Manhattan home.

SARAH JESSICA PARKER The Sex In The City Star Sarah Jessica Parker changes homes like Carrie Bradshaw changes shoes. After years of searching for the perfect Manhattan townhouse Sarah and her husband Mathew Broderick bought a townhouse in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village for $19 million. But, just 18 months later, the couple put it back on the market for $24.995 million. The couple refurbished the extraordinary townhome but never even moved into the place. According to the NY Daily News, the couple decided to sell because of a lack of privacy. The five-bedroom Greek Revival-style townhouse described as “truly special” is located in a prime spot in the Village, according to the listing. The bottom floor -- or “garden floor” has access to an outdoor garden, as well as a designer Boffi kitchen and breakfast nook. Going up a floor, the main entrance features 12-foot ceilings and a “double parlor.” The fourth floor is entirely devoted to the master suite, consisting of a “spectacular” bathroom, multiple walk-in closets and a large terrace. <

LASERS, LASHES & LIGHT THERAPY The Risk Of Getting More Than What You Bargained For By Mark NeJame Contributor Vanessa Braeley, Associate Attorney with NeJame Law

> The beauty industry is a multi-billion dollar institution that continues to grow exponentially thanks to technology and insatiable need to stay looking young. The luxurious services that that are now available appear to be something out of The Jetsons… laser lights, mink fur eyelashes, miracle creams. While some these treatments may sound familiar and have been around for years, most continue to evolve and change as technological advances are made. But what about the technicians? Is the knowledge of their practice evolving at the same rate? The state of Florida requires that cosmetologists be licensed by The Board of Cosmetology and are governed by Chapter 477 of the Florida Statutes, as well as Chapter 61 of the Administrative Code. Strict adherence to the law is often a goal, but not a certainty. Client satisfaction drives the salon’s “need to please,” and corners are often cut to achieve the client’s desired results. Luxuries such as eyelash extensions and laser therapies are more popular now than ever. Technicians in these industries must be sure to assess the client and their current condition before proceeding with the treatment. If a technician is not educated on industry advances – including possible adverse affects of current procedures – the client is being placed at risk for permanent damage. The technician may then be found liable for negligence, or more, if damage occurs and a lawsuit is filed. More often than not, these cases are settled by in-

OrlandoStyleMagazine.com

surance companies, who are fully aware of the cost of litigation and the effect the stigma of permanent damage has on a jury – basic logic follows that it may be cheaper for the company to settle out of court. While these procedures seem benign, damage such as blindness, skin discoloration and severe burns can occur. So do your homework, ladies and gentlemen, because peace of mind is priceless: 1. Check to see if your technician is licensed. Visit http://www.myfloridalicense.com/dbpr/ and click on “Verify a License.” This will allow you to search for your technician’s name, standing and license class. You may also make a claim on this website. 2. Go to a few initial consultations before choosing your technician. You need to be able to communicate effectively with your cosmetologist. 3. Ask if your technician carries insurance. They should. In the event that damage does occur, chances are the insurance company is the only party that will be able to adequately and financially address the claim. 4. ALWAYS follow the after-care instructions, no matter how simple or irrelevant they may be. This may result in your contributing to the damage that occurs, if damage does occur, and could potentially limit or foreclose on your ability to recover.

5. If damage does occur, call an attorney that specializes in personal injury. Statements you make and actions you take may be used against you in court, so what you say and do has an effect on your case. An attorney can help guide you through the process of what steps to take (and avoid) when it comes to processing your claim. 6. Keep in mind these services are regulated by the Florida Board of Business and Professional Regulation, NOT any medical boards. If you are receiving a service such as BOTOX®, JUVÉDERM® and other dermal fillers, you will need to check licensure with the Florida Board of Medicine. The website for license verification is here: http://www.doh.state. fl.us/mqa/medical/ So before you hit the salon, go online and do some good old-fashioned research. Call some friends. Get recommendations and read reviews. Chances are you’ll be glad you did. <

IF A TECHNICIAN IS NOT EDUCATED ON INDUSTRY ADVANCES – INCLUDING POSSIBLE ADVERSE AFFECTS OF CURRENT PROCEDURES – THE CLIENT IS BEING PLACED AT RISK FOR PERMANENT DAMAGE.

THE LUXURY OF A

FACIAL! By Jennifer Marcus

> Grab a glass of cool water, lay back and enjoy 60 minutes of uninterrupted bliss as you indulge in the most luxurious of facials. The Shala Spa, located at Miami Beach’s famed Dream South Beach Hotel, is one of the few spas that offers the Radiant Recovery Facial, a non-invasive, new generation soft peel that exfoliates, infuses, and resurfaces the skin while using only holistic, natural ingredients. As you walk inside the Dream South Beach Hotel lobby, you’re met with chic and whimsical modern décor juxtaposed with historic features, such as the keystone front desk dating back to 1939 when the original façade was erected. The Shala Spa, nestled in the corner of the lobby, welcomes you with a crisp lemongrass scent and an inviting smile from managing director and facial extraordinaire Monica Charvet. Spas on South Beach are becoming increasingly bigger with dozens of massage/facial/ salon rooms, however the Shala Spa keeps it intimate with just two rooms allowing for a truly private and customized session. Charvet believes that beauty is not only the “physical dimension, but reflects the vitality and health of the whole person.” Her goal is to treat the mind~body~spirit in a holistic approach and use only key ingredients composed of herbs, plants, fruits, and essential oils sans cancer-causing agents, chemical additives, and parabens. StyleToMe.com

Along with providing relaxation, facials help rejuvenate the skin’s complexion and create what is commonly heard of as a “glow.” While many consumers treat themselves to harsh chemical peels, prescriptive acne treatments and cosmetic injections to look younger and have clearer skin, the Radiant Recovery Facial provides similar benefits while using a softer approach combining ultrasound technology, specialty serums, and a sculpting technique. Shala, meaning “sanctuary” is a most appropriate name as the facial/massage room is just that, a sanctuary. The dim lighting, tranquil music, and ornate wall detailing provide a peaceful space for whatever treatment you choose. Once comfortable, a steam bath is supplied to open the facial pores and awaken the skin. A high performance spatula, if you will, using sonic waves at millions of vibrations per second is used to glide over the skin increasing circulation and providing a deep cleansing of cellular and environment toxins. Charvet, who has been an expert in facials for more than 25 years, then evaluates addresses specific skin conditions for the best treatment process. Upon evaluation, organic products are infused into the skin beyond the epidermis level to hydrate, and stimulate collagen and elastin production. When the process is completed, the skin is noticeably fresher and cleaner… and you feel calmer and more serene as well.

Benefits of the Radiant Recovery Facial include improved blood circulation, reduced pore size, smoother fine lines and wrinkles, firmer skin, reduced hyper pigmentation, melasma and sun damage, and it helps break up scars. You’ll feel like a new you. And you’ll look like one too. It seems appropriate that the Shala Spa is located in one of the most serene hotels in South Beach. In an area saturated with hotels, the Dream South Beach seems like the sophisticated, more mature sister that oozes sexy but remains classy. Once the iconic Art Deco Tudor Hotel and Palmer House, Dream South Beach has transformed the two to create a fashion-forward boutique hotel offering 108 guestrooms, an increasingly popular trending rooftop pool lounge and infinity pool, and the Serafina Dream South Beach restaurant specializing in signature Northern Italian cuisine. Whether you come to the Dream South Beach for a vacation, a staycation, or just to indulge at the Shala Spa, you’re mind, body, and spirit will thank you. www.shalaspa.com <

This was what Deanna Armel did for ten years working as a Firefighter Paramedic for the City of Orlando Fire Department before her career ended in 2006 with an on-the-job back injury. Growing up in Jacksonville, Florida in an entrepreneurial climate, Deanna witnessed her grandmother as the “Pioneer in the beauty industry” as she not only opened the first Day Spa in the city but also created her own line of skin care and cosmetics which continues to thrive today- Frances Calhoun Skin Care (FCSkinCare.com). Deanna consistently heard both her mother and her grandmother say that it was their goal to “help everyone look and feel their best.”

It is evident that Deanna was meant to “impact lives” and she does just that with her Real Estate company here in Orlando, Florida. Armel Real Estate, Inc. is a full-service commercial and residential real estate firm specializing in selling golf courses, businesses and luxury homes and is composed of a team of five agents. Deanna maintains a small firm and emphasizes “teamwork and exceptional service with a personal touch.” “It is an honor to be recognized in Orlando Style Magazine by my professional colleagues in the community not only as a woman with strong leadership skills but also as a female with tenacity and compassion,” stated Deanna Armel.

As Larry Graham (one of her clients) stated, “Deanna has a sense of compassion and sincerity that goes beyond any sale. I am truly convinced that she truly cares about her clients’ desires as evidenced by my own experience gleaned from many interactions with her.” When Deanna began her real estate career, she reached out to a longtime family friend who was also the nation’s leading golf course broker and still is, Hilda Allen. Deanna’s very first real estate transaction was the sale of a golf course with Hilda-The Majors Golf Club in Palm Bay, Florida. Since then, Deanna has worked with Hilda in closing more than a dozen golf courses including the most recent- The Legacy Club at Alaqua Lakes in Longwood, Florida as well as Highlands Reserve in Davenport, Florida. Other local area golf courses Deanna has sold with Hilda include Windermere Country Club, Timacuan Country Club, Palisades Golf Club, Kissimmee Oaks Golf Club, just to name a few. “Deanna is the ‘One in a Billion’ that you will be lucky to use to sell your home, buy a home or sell your business,” said the Stepp’s, founders and owners of VELOCITY Powerboats which Deanna successfully sold this year. “Impacting Lives and Selling Property…” what Deanna Armel is doing today. <

> Bobby Baldor is a U. S. Marine Corps veteran and Florida native with over 10 years of combined, awardwinning experience in Real Estate and Mortgage Lending in Central Florida. He began as a mortgage banker, earning numerous awards for top production and customer service, and was promoted to lead an office of some of the highest producing loan officers in Orlando. After navigating through the highs and lows of the housing bubble, he decided to focus his talents strictly on real estate and has since been widely recognized as a top producing Realtor with in-depth knowledge and genuine likeability among customers and colleagues alike.

Bobby gained much of his early experience with a focus on defaulted/distressed properties. Working with some of the area’s top REO brokers in selling foreclosed homes, he quickly gained the experience and knowledge that normally takes the better part of a career to acquire. His early customers included large banks and servicers with high demands, strict guidelines and heavy oversight that sharpened his skills in home valuation, risk assessment, time management and strong negotiations. Since then, he has closed millions of dollars in foreclosed assets for his clients while also successfully negotiating for both buyers and sellers through the stressful and rigorous process of short sales. He is a member of the Five Star Institute’s FORCE and holds multiple accreditations. While he still maintains various banks and government sponsored agencies as clients in his REO business, he has vastly increased his footprint in the Real Estate arena. Partnering with Ron Ziolkowski, one of the area’s leading Realtors, they together have received statewide recognition as a top RE/MAX team in Orlando. Bobby has clients that range from 9-figure net worth investors to first time home buyers. He has created a successful property management division and

along with his partner, is expanding into the commercial real estate sector. With a true thirst for knowledge, he has earned designations across the real estate spectrum, to include being a Graduate of the Realtor Institute and an Accredited Buyer’s Representative. One of Bobby’s greatest attributes is that time and again he has proven himself to be a selfless professional, treating his clients as if their property was the most important, and summed it up by saying “I take great pride in my profession knowing that I help many in need of real estate services. I have very high net worth clients that have entrusted me with their local real estate portfolios and gained their confidence by showing great returns on their investments through knowledge, diligence and integrity. However, I take as much satisfaction (if not more) in being able to provide the dream of home ownership to first time buyers. There is just something truly special in handing a family the keys to their new home”. However, he doesn’t stop there - as a Marine, has a personal commitment to veterans and provides additional insight and benefits to them through the RE/MAX Veteran’s First program and is one of the few agents in the state certified as a Florida Military Specialist. Bobby and his beautiful wife Halle have three children; Isabella, ‘Little’ Bobby and Alex. They are involved in many activities to include Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, baseball, dance and soccer to name a few. Bobby is an active member of his community, a youth sports coach, current member of the Dr Phillips Little League Board of Directors and Palm Lake Elementary SAC and PTA. Bobby’s personal slogan is ‘Your Real Estate Hero’ and he works hard to prove it. <

RON ZIOLKOWSKI Realtor Photo by Steven Miller

> Ronald Ziolkowski, known throughout Orlando as “Ron the Realtor” has been one of the highest producing Realtors in the Orlando area for the last 14 years. Specializing in the Southwest area of Orlando, Ron has closed over $200,000,000 in residential real estate in his career and recently was named the highest earning RE/MAX Realtor in 2012 in Orlando. Selling real estate is his passion. Ron contributes his consistently growing business to his relentless work ethic (no 9-5 here) and aggressive no nonsense direct approach, but if he had to pick a single reason for his success, “Customer Service. There is no substitute for being responsive. One of the biggest complaints I hear about other agents is that they do not answer their phones. I always make a point to answer my client’s calls. My clients always know what is going on with their transaction, information is power. In a tight market, the windows of opportunity open and close quickly, so you have to be ready to respond at all times. I strive to be a conduit of current real estate market information, staying on top of all sales and listings in my market area. This is why 80% of my business is derived from

referrals of past and present clients. To achieve this you need to exceed expectations and goals of every client. I am proud to say I am extremely successful in this.” Successful at this Ron is indeed, working for RE/MAX Properties SW in the heart of Dr Phillips, Ron has achieved every award offered through the REMAX franchise; Lifetime Achievement, Hall of Fame and Chairman’s Club Awards. Ron has earned the Orlando Magazines Hot 100 and the Zagat 5 star in Customer Service Award 7 years running. Ron’s biggest announcement of 2013 is the launch of his revamped custom website, www.RontheRealtor.com. The only place to search every new home community in the Orlando area by map. Plus, Ron the Realtor’s monthly newsletter delivers amazing insight and a wealth of knowledge to its readers. SHARPENING BENTLEY’S SPORTING EDGE The Continental GT V8 S Range

> The appeal of the world’s most stylish, luxury grand tourer is enhanced with the introduction of the new, sporting Continental GT V8 S. Available as both a coupe and convertible, the new GT V8 S models bring added excitement to the Continental range with lowered and retuned sports suspension, sharper steering, dramatic ‘S’ signature styling cues and a distinctive soundtrack from the uprated V8 engine.

mance, generous space, handcrafted luxury and all-wheel drive capability take you on a journey in refined style and comfort. Now, for those customers who want even more drama and excitement, the sharper, sporting edge of the new GT V8 S adds a new dimension to the Continental range.”

These two new models expand the Continental family and provide an even more engaging driving experience from Bentley’s already renowned 4-litre twin-turbo V8 powertrain. The new Continental GT V8 S Coupe and Convertible will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Show on 10th September, 2013.

Building on the success of the acclaimed Continental GT V8, the new GT V8 S models feature a more powerful version of Bentley’s high-efficiency 4-litre, twinturbo V8 engine developing 521 bhp (528 PS / 389 KW) at 6,000 rev/min and an immense peak torque of 680 Nm (502 lb.ft) at a mere 1,700 rev/min.

Commenting on the introduction of the two new S models, Dr Wolfgang Schreiber, Chairman and Chief Executive, Bentley Motors, said:

Delivered via a close-ratio ZF 8-speed automatic transmission, the increased power provides effortless, exhilarating high performance with breath-taking acceleration and imperceptibly smooth power delivery. Switch into S mode via the gear selector and the V8 S rewards

THIS IMPRESSIVE COMBINATION OF POWER, PERFORMANCE AND ECONOMY IS THE RESULT OF AN ARRAY OF ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES EMPLOYED IN THE DESIGN OF THE BENTLEY V8 ENGINE.

the spirited driver with a sharpened throttle response while gears are held for longer with faster shifts. The GT V8 S coupe dispatches the 0-60 mph sprint in just 4.3 seconds (0-100 km/h in 4.5s) onto a top speed of 192 mph (309 km/h). The performance of the GT V8 S convertible is equally impressive, reaching 60 mph from a standing start in 4.5 seconds (0-100km/h in 4.7s) and a top speed of 191mph (308km/h). The increased performance is achieved without detriment to the V8 engine’s class-leading fuel economy and CO2 emissions, or its ability to cover more than 500 miles (805 km) between fill-ups. The new GT V8 S coupe returns a combined cycle fuel economy of 26.8 mpg (10.6 l/100km) and CO2 emissions of 246 g/km. The equivalent figures for the convertible are 25.9 mpg (10.9 l/100km) and 254 g/km. This impressive combination of power, performance and economy is the result of an array of advanced technologies

employed in the design of the Bentley V8 engine. Variable displacement, in which four of the eight cylinders shut down when cruising, reduces fuel consumption without any loss of refinement. When more power is required, the engine switches back automatically and seamlessly to the full eight cylinders. The high-technology V8 engine also features high pressure direct injection, low friction bearings, advanced thermal management, energy recuperation via the electrical charging system and innovative turbocharger packaging for greater efficiency. The V8 engine’s variable displacement system presented a unique challenge for Bentley exhaust engineers. When cruising on a light throttle in 4-cylinder mode, the exhaust system is tuned for refinement while maintaining a distinctive V8 sound. However, under acceleration the character of the system changes dramatically as the twin turbo-charged Bentley V8 transforms into an emotive growl.

Customers may tailor the specification of the GT V8 S by selecting from a range of optional equipment. The sports exhaust option features redesigned silencers, revised pipe architecture and re-tuned mountings which result in a free-breathing system that delivers a full-blooded V8 sound track. The optional Mulliner Driving Specification features 21-inch 7-spoke Black Edition wheels, drilled alloy foot pedals, a ‘jewel’ filler cap and a cabin trimmed in diamond-quilted, perforated leather with indented headlining. Other key options include Mulliner dark - tint front and rear lights and Beluga gloss door mirrors to match the Lower Body Styling Specification. Deliveries of the new Continental V8 S start in early 2014. <

INGREDIENTS 4 Portobello Mushrooms 1 bunch fresh Arugula Eliunt Vitality Extra Virgin Olive Oil 4 Garlic Cloves 2 Lemons 3.5 oz shaved Parmesan Cheese A few leaves of fresh Mint, fresh Parsley and dry Oregano Chili flakes to taste (optional)

PREPARATION Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Peel the Portobello mushrooms and cut away the stem (you can use them for stock for other dishes). Chop the garlic finely and put it on top of the mushrooms. Add the chili flakes to your taste. Place the mushrooms in the oven for 15 minutes. Meanwhile, for the dressing preparation, squeeze the juice of 2 lemons. Finely chop the oregano, parsley and fresh mint and add to the lemon juice. Finish the dressing with a pinch of salt and pepper. Once the mushrooms are ready, take them out of the oven and let them cool for 5 minutes. Once they are cool, turn them bottom up and top them with the arugula and add the dressing and shaved Parmesan. To finish this dish and give it the final golden touch, we recommend Eliunt Vitality Olive Oil from Australia. Vitality is a smooth and aromatic Extra Virgin Olive Oil ideal for salads. JAMES BLUNT He’s reached for the stars and now it’s time for Moon Landing, Blunt’s latest—and possibly final—studio album. By Riesa Pascal

> His number one hit may have been “You’re Beautiful,” but one look at this Brit’s piercing blue eyes, defined jaw line and soft lips have many women throwing the words right back at him. His charming smile and hauntingly beautiful vocals don’t hurt either! James Hillier Blount, better known by his stage name James Blunt, is the English singer-songwriter who rose to fame in 2005 with his debut album Back to Bedlam. The widely acclaimed album topped the charts of over ten countries, as well as reaching number two in the United States and three other countries. The album sold 11 million copies worldwide and boasts the highest-selling album of 2005 in the UK with almost 2.4 million copies sold. It was also the best-selling album of the 2000s decade in the UK with 3.2 million copies sold.

‘What it allowed me to do was go on tour with a band,” says Blunt. That was absolutely amazing, and so I recorded our second album, All The Lost Souls, with that band, and made a deeper, richer album. Then I recorded the third album, Some Kind Of Trouble, in the UK with lots of musicians and a fancy studio, and enjoyed making a more upbeat album. I picked up an electric guitar and did the kind of songs that I’d heard as a teenager but couldn’t replicate on my acoustic. It was fun playing catch-up, exploring all the things I wanted to do and be - all the other musicians I wanted to sound like.’ “You’re Beautiful” is without a doubt Blunt’s biggest hit to date, but reaching an incredible career peak at just 31 years old didn’t slow him down for one second. “Cry” and “Goodbye My Lover” were

two more hit singles released off Back To Bedlam. He followed that up with two additional albums, three world tours, four number one singles, five Grammy nominations, a six-piece band and seven whole years on the road. What does all that equal? A whole lot of success! In just a few short years, Blunt has sold nearly 17 million albums and 20 million singles worldwide. His official Facebook fan page has over five million ‘likes’ and his total YouTube views have surpassed an impressive 257 million. I think it’s safe to assume from those numbers that the announcement of Blunt’s fourth studio album has come as a happy surprise to many. Moon Landing was released on October 18th and is Blunt’s first new material in three years. The album is a follow up to 2010’s Some Kind of Trouble. On his fan

page, Blunt simply states: ‘Moon Landing is my 4th album. Possibly my last. Definitely my best.’ “There’s just something romantic, oldschool and lonely about the moon landings,” says Blunt. “A nostalgic memory of something huge that we can hardly believe we once achieved, and for some sad reason, can’t achieve again – like first love.” To Blunt’s loyal fans and long-time listeners, he must surely comes across as the hopeless romantic, but you might be surprised to know what else has gone on behind those baby blue eyes. Unbeknownst to many, Blunt was a former Army officer before he was discovered as an artist. Although he signed up for four years in 1996, Blunt ended up serving six total years in Canada, Kosovo and then London. During that time, Blunt never forgot his ultimate dream and continued to work on demos and music—even tak-

ing his guitar to the war in Kosovo. In 2002, Blunt finally left the British army in order to pursue that dream music career. After only a few minor letdowns, Blunt was spotted playing at the South by Southwest Music Festival and the rest is history. Despite trading in a rifle for a guitar, today Blunt is very active in charitable causes benefiting those in the service. He has helped support and raise funds for Médecins Sans Frontières, Help For Heroes, several environmental causes and more. He is truly an incredible musician and kind-hearted young man. All the ingredients necessary to have reached this success that Blunt is so deserving of. “In my teens, I found freedom in music. It’s a way of dreaming, a way to express who you are to the audience, but just as importantly, to yourself. It has taken me a while to understand it, to feel it again and start dreaming again.”

Moon Landing has been described as a collection of songs that are raw and emotionally honest. There are songs of self-examination such as “Always Hate Me” and “The Only One.” There’s “Miss America” which is a song inspired by the sudden death of Whitney Houston and the way fame makes us feel like we know celebrities personally. There are even the deep and unashamed declarations of love from “Postcards,” “Blue On Blue” and “Face The Sun.” The first single off the album is “Bonfire Heart” and serves as a lovely introduction back to this artist that millions across the world have come to know and love. It’s no surprise Moon Landing has already created a heavy buzz as fans of all ages prepare for what might possibly be Blunt’s final studio album. The English boy, who picked up a guitar and wrote his first song at 14, always dreaming of making music, has certainly come a long way. Be sure to pick up your own copy of Moon Landing today. <

> U.S. banks are required to keep records of all account transactions and provide their customers’ records to federal law enforcement under the Bank Secrecy Act. A bank must also file Currency Transaction Reports (CTR) anytime it receives or gives out over $10,000 in currency. The government also requires banks to file “Suspicious Activity Reports” when the bank believes that a customer’s deposit is suspicious. The definition of suspicious is not precise. I represented a small business owner who deposited between $9,000 - $9,700 in currency on numerous occasions. The bank filed over 60 Suspicious Activity Reports over a two-year period. As a result, the person’s business and home were searched by several gun toting agents under the mistaken belief that the person was a drug dealer.

SPECIAL PROMOTIONAL FEATURE

OrlandoStyleMagazine.com

Many people would rather not have their bank file a CTR and so divide up deposits to avoid the bank filing a CTR. What is not commonly known, however, is that this is a serious federal crime that is punishable by imprisonment and subjects the bank account to forfeiture. A person can be convicted of illegally structuring a currency deposit if the government proves that the person knew that by dividing a deposit the CTR would not be filed. The government does not have to prove that the bank customer knew that it was illegal to divide the deposit. The government should require banks to post a notice so that customers will be informed of the law and not commit a serious felony due to ignorance. <

WHEN PETS VISIT PEOPLE, GOOD THINGS HAPPEN.

> Since 1997, the SPCA of Central Florida has been encouraging positive interactions between pets and people through ourPet Visitation Program. This Program provides companion animal visits to thousands of adults and children throughout the Central Florida area each month. When pets visit people, good things happen. Having contact with animals is known to provide both physiological and psychological benefits -- conjuring up fond memories and creating a relaxing and therapeutic environment. Studies have shown animal assisted therapy can effectively reduce loneliness and isolation of residents in long term care facilities. Pets in nursing facilities also increase social and verbal interactions between residents. Positive self-esteem is enhanced by owning a pet and interaction with pets lowers blood pressure. Currently, we have over 65 active Visitation Teams (Pet and Person) who visit approximately 20 facility sites in Orange, Seminole and Osceola Counties. Many of the facility sites we visit are nursing or extended care facilities that cater to the elderly or infirmed.

OrlandoStyleMagazine.com

Not every pet is well suited for this work. Pets must be calm and confident, gentle and obedient and above all, have an affinity for humans. > As a team we all like to have the ideal situation to be able to place an implant or implants and then get a great restorative result for our patients. The real world does not always present us with the best scenario. This 60 year old gentleman, presented us with a tremendous challenge. His medical history was unremarkable however he is a heavy smoker and he was fully informed that the prognosis was questionable due to his smoking. Also, the implant site was too narrow for conventional implant placement. The Nobel Active 3.0 implant was chosen to tackle this unique situation. The Nobel Active 3.0 implant was specifically designed for replacement of lower central incisors and lower lateral incisors. It is a tapered implant with double threading which allows not only for a small surgical site, but also will aid in the condensing of the patient’s bone . I consulted with Dr. Carl Bilancione and we agreed that our only option would be an aesthetic challenge. This narrow diameter implant is safe and predictable. It is only used in situations of increased clinical risk, such as this where there is minimal hard tissue and limited space. Studies, with follow-ups of up to 7 years, show an overall survival rate of 97.3% after 5 years, which proves that narrow implants present a safe clinical solution. The 3.0 Nobel Active implant was the solution to what was once a difficult restorative situation. The patient was extremely happy and because of the communication between myself and Dr. Bilancione we were able give this a patient a tooth that functions and looks great. Proper planning and working as a team proves that we can predictably deliver quality dentistry even in the most challenging situations. Charles Mc Namara D.M.D Oral & Facial Surgeon. < In closing as a general dentist it is imperative that I work with a team of experts and these professionals are part of my team.

DR. PALCESKI – ASK THE EXPERT Q. I am considering getting a cosmetic procedure done. How do I go about selecting a qualified provider?

Dr. Palceski is a Board Certified Dermatologist and medical director of Reflections Dermatology & Center for Skin Care in Baldwin Park. He is the recipient of the 2013 Ovations award for “Best Dermatologist” in Orlando as voted by the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce and Park Avenue Merchants’ Association. He currently holds the proud distinction of being the areas top physician injector of Botox® and Sculptra® Aesthetic and is a national trainer for numerous pharmaceutical companies including Allergan, Valeant, Medicis, Galderma, and Warner Chilcott. For more information on Dr. Palceski or his practice, please visit reflectionsdermatology.com or call 407-895-8818.

A. This is an area that I am very passionate about as I see several patients every week that seek my assistance in correcting mistakes that occur as a result of providers performing procedures that they are not adequately trained for and/or are simply outside of their scope of practice. When electing to do cosmetic procedures such as injectables or lasers, I would encourage you to seek out the expertise of either a Board Certified Dermatologist or Plastic Surgeon as physicians within these specialties typically have more extensive training and expertise in the area of cosmetic dermatology than any other type of physician. Seeking out an appropriately trained and well credentialed Dermatologist or Plastic Surgeon will help in-

sure good results and will minimize the likelihood of complications. One final bit of advice, beware of specials that seem too good to be true. Cut corners at the grocery store, not on something as important as your face. You may pay a little more for it, but I am confident that the results will be well worth it. Q. I feel like I always look tired. What can I do to look more rested? A. Botox® by far is the procedure I find to have the highest degree of patient satisfaction in addressing this very issue. Botox® works directly to relax the muscles responsible for frowning and other unwanted furrows and creases around the eyes and forehead. Relaxing the muscles responsible for these expressions results in a more rested appearance. This procedure combined with a good night sleep, a healthy diet, and

exercise will help you look rested and rejuvenated. Q. What cosmetic procedure is in highest demand in your office? A. Although I perform all types of non-surgical cosmetic procedures every day, Botox® is hands down the most sought after treatment due to its consistent results and relatively affordable price point. Now, there are even more ways to save with Allergan’s Brilliant Distinctions Program. Brilliant Distinctions is a free patient loyalty program in which patients are provided with points that convert to dollar savings with every treatment. The more points you have the more you save. For more information or to enroll in Brilliant Distinctions visit www.brilliantdistinctions.com.

92 - COCKTAIL HOUR

Barfly From Barn to Bar By Travis Joiner

OrlandoStyleMagazine.com

Š

> There is a change for the better in the food movement in the Central Florida area and I can already taste it. There has been a big crusade in our industry all over the country the last few years bringing local ingredients back to your neighborhood bars and restaurants. Some areas have been way ahead of the curve while others, like Central Florida, are playing catch up. I speak of the farm to table or farm to bar movement that most big cities have been experiencing for a while now. As the barfly I still believe there is a symbiosis between bar and restaurant. I like when a cocktail can pair up with the food that shares space on the menu that holds a fresh drink list. There is a core group of people leading this change and the examples below are just starting to scratch the surface of a wonderful movement.

There is a great group of chefs and bartenders in our area that focus on championing this exciting change in our community. They are working hard on getting like-minded people to share in this movement. Recently an event was at K Restaurant in Orlando that featured a great panel of our peers in our industry. Kevin Fonzo, the host panelist, is the owner and executive chef of K Restaurant. Kevin is a James Beard nominated chef who has a long history of supporting the use of local ingredients on his menu. We were also pleased to have Matthew Anderson sitting on the board. Matt is the founder/creative director of Enlightened Grain Spirits. He has been the driving force in creating and growing a company that brings fresh and locally harvested ingredients into the EG Spirits line. Joining them on

COCKTAIL HOUR - 93

the panel was local craft bartender and creator Kaitlin McGavock. Kaitlin uses local herbs to create various tinctures and bitters to be used behind the bar. Rounding out this list of visionaries was Nathan Clarke of Wondermade. Nathan is the co-founder of a company that invents a range of flavors that end up in a tasty cube of marshmallow goodness. Bourbon marshmallows are just one example of how Wondermade is crossing over that food/bar barrier. He might just be the evil genius we need in the lab. The panel was aided by Paul Johnsen who moderated this event and kept the discussion going down the right path. Paul is a local craft bartender who was chosen by GQ as one of the 50 most imaginative bartenders. I am proud to say he also sits on the board of the Orlando chapter of the United States Bartenders Guild as Vice-President. Having a group of knowledgeable people from various backgrounds in this industry makes for a great event, this was no exception. The hour-long conversation and debate covered quite a bit and honestly could have gone on for much longer. The back and forth from moderator and panelist covered ground from the local herbs sourced to make batched cocktails and house made bitters to the importance of teamwork from kitchen to bar. There is a great marriage between the ingredients used behind the bar and the food that is prepared at these restaurants. Kevin said, “A balance between one and the other is key,” when speaking on the balance between bar and kitchen food pairing. Whether it is pairing food with wine, beer or spirits there is a great deal to consider finding that balance. Seeing the true love of their respected crafts being shown from

these panelists gives all hope for the trend for more local ingredients on our plates or in our glass. Central Florida is just now starting to understand and get out ahead of these trends. When Kaitlin was asked why do you love bitters and using it as a tool for your bar when creating cocktails? She responded, “A way to harness a flavor in one drop.” I recommend you go find her at The Courtesy downtown and ask her about her strawberry bitters, which highlight locally sourced fruit. You could really tell how proud Matt from EG spirits is to be using locally harvested herbs nearby their Portland, Distillery. What started as an idea in Winter Park has turned into a spirit company that features rosemary, lavender and sage with plans for more on the way. While Nathan uses more chemistry than most on the panel his passion results in a product that gives us a delicate flavor and sweetness. His marshmallows show how those flavors found behind most bars can be eaten tableside in a small bite of sugary goodness. I urge you to check out the Guinness marshmallow they offer on their website. I for one can already see that Irish whisky sitting proudly next to a few of these tasty bites. The event ended in an open forum for questions and it was encouraging to see the amount of locals who showed up and took a part in this panel. These people had a great curiosity in the farm to bar movement and showed genuine interest in highlighting this in our community. I look forward to seeing more of these open panel type events that shows and teaches us about the trends in our own backyard and strongly recommend you join in. From Kevin making homemade cherry rosemary soda to Kaitlin coming

up with that next locally sourced herb or fruit for her next batch of bitters, I am proud to live in an area that is finally “getting it.” We are surrounded by talented people in this industry who want to tinker and play to find out what works best while using locally sourced ingredients. Whether you are on the restaurant and bar side of the industry or have a local farm that grows these ingredients to bring to market, we all can benefit. I wanted to personally thank all who made it possible to showcase the talent and creative minds we have in our own backyard. Wherever you live, this farm to table/bar movement is something to seek out and take advantage of. From the chef who hits the farmers market at the crack of dawn to find that perfect ingredient to showcase that night’s special to the bartender who is tinkering with that perfect balance of flavors to add to the featured drink of the evening, we the locals are the one who benefit. With the changing of the season among us it is worth it to find which bars and restaurants are highlighting the flavors of fall. So remember wherever you are to find your local purveyor, restaurant chef, mad genius or bartender that is featuring local ingredients from your own backyard and say Thank You. <

I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING MORE OF THESE OPEN PANEL TYPE EVENTS THAT SHOWS AND TEACHES US ABOUT TRENDS IN OUR OWN BACKYARD
