Olivier Rousteing’s Bold Reflection of Modern Balmain

I had the honor to attend the Balmain show at the Théâtre National de Chaillot in Paris, where Olivier Rousteing’s stunning collection came to life in an unforgettable setting. Rousteing presented Balmain's highly anticipated Women’s Spring Summer25 collection—a striking reflection of the house’s rich heritage and its forward-looking vision. With the grandeur of the Théâtre National de Chaillot as the backdrop, Rousteing’s designs were a flawless tribute to the brand's past while signaling a bold leap into the future.
For this SS25 season, Rousteing continues to build upon the distinctive design ethos that has defined Balmain since its inception in 1945. The collection draws inspiration from the extraordinary archives of the house, with a nod to the legendary ‘New French Style’ and the architectural brilliance of Pierre Balmain’s ‘Jolie Madame’ silhouette. But rather than focusing exclusively on the past, Rousteing taps into the codes and styles that he has developed since becoming creative director more than a decade ago. This collection feels intensely personal, bringing elements from his own wardrobe into the spotlight. Rousteing’s signature combination of black leather pants, high-shoulder jackets, and simple tank tops—an outfit he has worn countless times for both runway shows and press engagements—has now been reimagined as part of the daywear offerings.
One of the standout aspects of the collection
is the embellishments. Rousteing has always had a fascination with intricate beading and embellishment, and this season, that obsession is on full display. Some of the photo-realistic creations used up to 500,000 beads, with one extraordinary piece even featuring a stunningly detailed likeness of Kylie Jenner’s face— testament to the artistry and precision that define each of Rousteing’s creations.
The collection also remains true to Rousteing’s affinity for tailoring. Iconic elements such as powerful shoulders and angular hips remain, with new, cutting-edge adaptations of the maison’s signature silhouettes. The intricate cuts, structure, and craftsmanship continue to set Balmain apart, reinforcing the timeless elegance of Rousteing's vision. Rousteing’s love of stripes also made its way into the collection, seen on tweed and pearls, combined with chains, crystals, and mini dresses that emphasized the hips. A particular highlight was a pearl dress that pays homage to Pierre Balmain’s 1950s designs and his beloved 'Jolie Madame' silhouette.
The runway showcased a palette of neutral tones—nude, beige, red, and black—highlighted by luxurious textures and fabrics. Accessories, too, played a major role in telling the story. This season, the jewelry took a bold turn, with bracelets, necklaces, and handbags crafted in the shape of perfume bottles. This was a fitting tribute to the house's legendary fragrances,

including the 1946 Vent Vert bottle, as well as Balmain Beauty’s Les Éternels collection. The connection between Balmain’s fashion and beauty was evident, with minimalist silk sheaths that mirrored the tones of the fragrance palette.
The show reached its crescendo as Rousteing walked down the runway with arms raised to the beat of Lenny Kravitz's “Are You Gonna Go My Way.” Wearing black leather pants, a fierce high-shoulder pad jacket, and a simple tank top, Rousteing exuded pure joy and confidence as he took his final steps. This iconic combination of leather pants and a DB jacket, which he’s sported for over a decade, now forms part of the daywear offerings.
Fashion, much like life, is ever evolving, but one thing remains constant: Olivier’s joyful, unshakeable fashion forward confidence. That’s the mood that permeates his collection—a celebration of both style and spirit. The strength of the Balmain Army and family is at the heart of this vision, bringing together a diverse community that continues to thrive with passion and unity.
Fashion clearly hasn’t stolen his smile, nor has it stolen mine, but it might just steal my heart with my love for this house.
LAFAYETTE 148

I’m always thrilled to cover such strong fashion presentations, and Lafayette 148’s Spring 2025 collection certainly delivered. Presented during NYFW at the newly completed 50 Ninth building in New York’s Meatpacking District, this showcase was a remarkable fusion of art and fashion.
Creative Director Emily Smith invited us into the intimate world of an artist’s studio for Spring 2025. “Spring is synonymous with new beginnings, and drawing is essentially the foundation of all creative endeavors,” Smith noted during the presentation in a chic Manhattan loft. This season, the collection was deeply inspired by the art of figure drawing, with charcoal playing a pivotal role in shaping the collection’s elements.Smith expanded on the creative vision behind the collection, stating, “Here was our starting point for Lafayette 148’s Spring 2025 collection: translating the pared-back gestures and
aesthetics of life drawing into a modern, versatile collection, through the lens of our understated, New York aesthetic. From contoured lines to smudged charcoal prints and pastel dust textures, the collection explores both the craftsmanship and beauty that comes from capturing the human body in its purest form.”
This vision aligns seamlessly with Lafayette 148’s foundational ethos. As conveyed on their website, “We are born and raised in the spirit of NYC.” Named after the SoHo address where the brand was founded, Lafayette 148 is a global lifestyle brand led by women, for women. Established in 1996, the brand’s journey reflects a commitment to creating beautiful clothing tailored to women’s unique needs—our wardrobes, our rich and fluid lives.
The sense of purpose behind the Spring 2025 collection was apparent in every detail. The fluid lines of charcoal sketches were reimagined as fringe details along the bodice of a long-sleeve maxi dress. The dust from a charcoal pencil inspired a subtle curvilinear jacquard pattern, while the smudges created by a hand brushing against a drawing were transformed into a striking print on a suit and trench coat. Notably, the print’s placement was designed to flow seamlessly across the garment, uninterrupted by side seams to preserve the swooping lines.
Inspiration also came from the organized chaos of a working studio. The half-finished drawings and mood images tacked to the walls led to the creation of a cream knit sweater with hand-knitted flaps and an A-line dress adorned with a mosaic of small fabric
squares in shades of beige, white, blue, orange, and yellow. The subdued color palette included tones like pale chalk yellow and a deep blue inspired by charcoal paper. A standout piece was a long jacquard dress in pencil gray and chalk yellow, which beautifully captured the tactile appeal of charcoal dust.
The Spring 2025 presentation at 50 Ninth was a testament to Lafayette 148’s ability to fuse art with fashion. Guests were welcomed into a studio-like environment, where large-format projectors displayed hand-drawn sketches and the sound of charcoal on paper—central to the season’s theme—created a multisensory experience. The collection’s artistic presentation made a lasting impression, showcasing Lafayette 148’s innovative approach to modern fashion.
Additionally, Lafayette 148’s Fall 2024 collection, “The Collector’s House,” has also caught my eye. Drawing inspiration from the lesser-known modernist NYC landmark, the Rockefeller Guest House, and the legendary art collector Blanchette Rockefeller, this collection marries art, architecture, and nature in a sophisticated manner that reflects Rockefeller’s discreet elegance.
Currently, I’m particularly enamored with a skirt from Lafayette 148’s Fall 2024 collection, featuring reflective sequin paillettes that channel the chrome accents of mid-century modern furnishings—an unexpected standout for the new season’s occasions. And as I look ahead to Spring 2025, I’m eagerly eyeing the new seasonal yellow chalk shade in the collection, which promises to be a vibrant and refreshing addition to the season’s palette.

When it comes to Miami Spice Month however, you’re in for a treat as the popular discounted dining program is still actively running and will continue all the way until the end of September with three-course meals at top eateries for just $30/$35 for lunch/brunch and $45/$60 for dinner. Keep on reading to learn more about the various spa facilities and outstanding dining I experienced alongside several companions during an unforgettable weekend in the Magic City.

Intense Hydrating Facial. Highly remedial from beginning to end, this proved to be so much more than just a facial. My skin was positively transformed after the treatment which promises the restoration of your skin’s optimal moisture levels and a minimized appearance of fine, dry lines. Just when I thought the experience couldn’t get any better, my service was brought to a delightful close with a soothing, eyeenhancing masque and a chilled glass of prosecco.
After such a fabulous treatment, the only thing better than being brought to that state of total relaxation is to continue the feelings of pleasure with an exquisite meal at Essensia Restaurant & Bar located on property. As a Green Globe certified property, it was no surprise to learn that the Palms Hotel & Spa carries their passion for sustainable tourism best practices into their dining experiences as well. Essensia provides a natural gourmet dining experience that embraces a farm-to-table
philosophy and offers a seasonal selection of global, wholesome cuisine made primarily with locally sourced ingredients – including an on-property Chef’s Organic Garden.
For my companions and I, Essensia was the first stop of several Miami Spice dining experiences that we would go on to enjoy over the course of our weekend together. Appetizer options came in the form of Grilled Florida Sun Shrimp, Gratitude Blue Oyster Mushroom Ceviche, and Local Red Snapper Crudo while entrees of Kimchi Turmeric Fried Rice, Za’atar Chicken Kebab, and Braised Short Ribs absolutely stole the show. And what’s a dinner without dessert? Still within the exceptional Miami Spice price of $60 per person, Essensia’s two dessert options of Passion Fruit Mousse and a decadent Chocolate Dome were a tasty conclusion to our unforgettable first night.
THE MIAMI BEACH EDITION
The following morning saw my companions
and I take a brief three-minute walk across the street to The Miami Beach EDITION for yet another exquisite Miami Spice meal. This time it came in the form of a delectable brunch in the Matador Room, the signature restaurant located on property. Featuring a supper club-like atmosphere reminiscent of the 1940s, the Matador Room tempts guests with innovative cuisine inspired by the flavors of South America, the Caribbean and Spain. Having been seated outside on their gorgeous terrace, we were surrounded on every side by lush vegetation and alluring smells that had my mouth watering and my taste buds ready to jump into another superb round of Miami Spice dining. At just $35, their Miami Spice Brunch offering was an absolute steal with appetizers of Avocado Toast or Vanilla Chia Bowl and Entrees of Eggs Benedict with Country Ham or BLT Taco with Roasted Tomatoes, House Cured Bacon and Arugula. Just make sure you save room for your dessert options of Cafe Con Tres Leches or Cherry Cheesecake Sundae. All three courses are sure to leave you
satisfied and ready for a nap… or perhaps ready for another spa treatment as they did for me!
FONTAINEBLEAU MIAMI BEACH
With our bellies full and feelings of lethargy beginning to settle in, the idea of another spa experience sounded like the perfect
afternoon activity. Fontainebleau Miami Beach was the location of choice and unsurprisingly they did not disappoint. At their pristine Lapis Spa, we stepped into a tranquil sanctuary that you’ll never want to pull yourself away from. I went on to enjoy a CBD Swedish Massage that boasted a maximum relaxation and pain relief ritual to reclaim your mental sanity and well-being. The treatment eased tense muscles, reduced feelings of stress and left me feeling fully refreshed. The Swedish Massage was elevated with 150mg of high potency CBD oil sourced from the organically grown hemp plant and infused with anti-inflammatory lavender. THC-free oil meant no toxicity or side effects, only the utmost relaxation and rejuvenation. Best of all, this massage was just one of their many meticulously designed services! When presented with a diverse menu of offerings in a spa menu, it can sometimes be difficult to choose the treatment that is best for you, but Lapis Spa made it evident that you truly can’t go wrong with your selection.

The beautiful thing about massages is that no two therapists are the same and no two treatments are alike! From the type of massage to the individual style of the therapist conducting your treatment, visitors to Miami in need of some good oldfashioned ‘R & R’ can do no wrong with a spa tour through the 305. A perfect example of this was the next massage I experienced at the elegant Mediterranean style oceanfront Acqualina Resort. Having been awarded the prestigious Five Stars by Forbes Travel Guide and Best Hotel Spa in the US by USA Today, Acqualina Spa was a 20,000 square foot indulgent retreat for preeminent spa treatments and experiences. I chose to partake in a Summer Soothing Massage which was a traditional Swedish massage using light pressure to bring the mind and body to a state of total relaxation. Of course their world-class spa isn’t the only way to experience self-indulgence at Acqualina Resort’s magnificent property.
The elevated beachfront luxury property also features four dining destinations, including their newest restaurant Ke-Uh. At Ke-Uh, my companions and I savored a diverse and eclectic tapas-style Japanese menu of appetizers before heading over to Il Mulino New York, also located on property, to experience yet another exquisite Miami Spice dinner. The acclaimed Italian restaurant has been awarded the Forbes Travel Guide Recommended Award for its exceptional dining experience and it didn’t take us long to see why. Their $60 Miami Spice menu kicked us off with antipasti dishes such as caprese with burrata, tomatoes and basil, or an arugula salad. We then dove straight into entrees like a rigatoni Bolognese crafted with braised veal, beef, and pork; linguine al pomodoro; or pork chop Milanese. The savory meal concluded on a sweet note with our choice of cannoli or creamy tiramisu, neither of which could possibly be a bad selection as every morsel of the dinner was an unforgettable delight.
CARILLON MIAMI WELLNESS RESORT
On the final day of our weekend exploring just a few of Miami’s spa and dining
offerings, we ended up at Carillon Miami Wellness Resort. Not only is the breathtaking property Florida’s most comprehensive spa and wellness resort, it is actually the largest spa and wellness facility on the East Coast. With their Miami Spa Month offerings now extended through the end of September, there is still plenty of time for you to also enjoy spa savings and treat yourself or loved ones to the ultimate spa experiences starting at only $109. From cupping and cryotherapy to infrared saunas and everything in between, Carillon Miami Wellness Resort brings a unique and comprehensive mixture of Western, Eastern, Alternative, and Aesthetic medicine to their extensive offerings.
For example, touchless treatments like the Wellsystem Wave Massage use a dry water massage to relieve tension and provide holistic relaxation for the body and soul. The fully customizable experience allowed me to adjust everything from the music I heard and the lighting colors to the movement of the massage jets and the area of focus on my body. It was a soothing break from the world outside and provided an entirely different take on relaxation to one of their signature therapeutic massages. That being said, you still can’t go wrong with a traditional treatment such as their Rejuvenating Massage offering. This full-body massage uniquely started with an almond-orange oil foot exfoliation to alleviate dryness and soothe fatigued feet. Afterwards, warm and nourishing coconut, argan and avocado oils were drizzled onto my body for superior hydration and relaxation. It was a truly nourishing journey for the body and soul.
Naturally, there was only one way to conclude such a fabulous weekend experiencing Miami Spa and Spice Month offerings and that of course was with one final Miami Spice meal. For that, my companions and I stayed on property at Carillon Miami and headed to lunch at The Strand. The gorgeous restaurant boasts a Mediterranean contemporary dining experience with a carefully crafted menu that sources ingredients from local farms and places a spotlight on Florida’s organic community. For just $35, their Miami Spice Lunch featured an array of tempting food
that delighted each and every taste bud. My appetizer of Feta Saganaki proved to be an excellent starter with mastica roasted husk cherries and hazelnuts, honeyed black tahina, mint, and powdered sugar. Our entree selection of Key West Pink Shrimp Polenta was served in style with coconut creamed corn, sun dried tomatoes, spiced pine nuts, and cilantro. Meanwhile, desserts like Torta Caprese, Turkish Rice Pudding or Lime Mint Tart are guaranteed to have you returning to Miami Spice at The Strand time and time again.
Though Miami Spa Month deals were extended for some of the locations discussed above, each of these properties are guaranteed to still have many affordable ways to restore your vitality through powerful therapeutic treatments offered at their facilities. That being said, Miami Spice Month doesn’t officially conclude until the end of September so all the more reason to grab your friends, family or loved ones and head on down to Miami for dining experiences with a dash of spice. Great food is a highlight of any great getaway, so don’t skip this chance to savor Miami and Miami Beach’s collection of the tastiest cuisines from around the world.

Among these captivating scents, I’ve found a new personal favorite: Rouge, an alluring fragrance that perfectly captures Balmain’s signature strength and elegance.
As always, Olivier Rousteing has embedded his ethos of diversity and inclusion into this line. His vision of fashion and beauty being inseparable is clearly evident, as both tell a story about who we are. Q: The fragrance bottles have such a unique and luxurious design. Can you share the inspiration behind the bottle aesthetics and how it reflects Balmain’s brand identity?

Hans Dorsinville : The Les Éternels de Balmain collection is inspired by Balmain’s first timeless flacon created in 1946. Evolving from this shape, the square now becomes a lozenge, the Balmain signature rayure, inspired by early fragrance packaging, covers the glass, and a new finish and color palette flatters the touch and the eye. In the end, we wanted to create a bottle you would recognize with your eyes closed.
Q. With sustainability in mind, what were some of the key design decisions made to minimize environmental impact while preserving the elegance of the packaging? And why this was a priority for Balmain beauty?
HD: Our bottles are refillable and recyclable, and we have cello-free packaging. We are committed to always doing better, solidifying our sustainability goals as we progress. We are so proud to have recently been awarded the Butterfly Mark, underscoring our dedication to meet higher standards for people and nature.
Q: The new interactive perfume stations in Balmain are a standout feature. What was your vision for this interactive station, and how does it balance technology with a personalized high touch service?
HD: On September 26, we opened our first ever Balmain Beauty boutique, located in the Marais district of Paris. At the very heart of our store is what we call the Sense Portal, a tool to immerse yourself in a full discovery of the fragrances using all your senses. It lets you smell, but also touch, hear, see, and feel the eight fragrances. The Sense Portal allows you to experience the collection in your own terms and on your own time. I invite all your readers to stop by our boutique if they happen to be in Paris, we are located at 8 rue des Francs Bourgeois.
Q: During the show, there were hints about exciting developments for Balmain Beauty. Can you share any teasers about what customers can expect in the near future?
HD: For Olivier Rousteing, “Fashion cannot exist without beauty, and beauty cannot exist without fashion.” I thought the September 25 Spring-Summer 2025
womenswear presentation was clever, with elements of beauty peppered through the collection. Olivier took the shape of the bottle and applied it in the form of bags, heels of shoes, and jewelry. The shape even made it as a dress! Olivier also gave hints of how makeup plays a role in fashion.
For us, fragrance becomes the first beauty chapter of a new book for the brand, to expand into new categories in the future to create a full world of beauty.
Q: As you celebrate "all the beauties of the world," how does this philosophy inform your upcoming collections or initiatives? What trends in the beauty industry do you see influencing Balmain Beauty's future products and strategies?
HD: Balmain Beauty is about welcoming all beauties of the world, with no exception. With Les Éternels, we want all to have the freedom to live their truth, free and powerful.

I find that a powerful accessory may really elevate a well-curated ensemble. Sometimes it is just that one little touch, which is all that is needed to stand out from the rest. Accessories may be used to update your wardrobe staples and change the pieces you currently own into the newest fashion trends, whether it is a statement belt, a handbag in a certain hue, or a striking set of stylish glasses.

accessory trends was not surprising, since gloves are a must-have item of apparel for the colder months and have recently been worn by all our favorite stylish celebs on the red carpet.

Designers looked straight back decades for inspiration when creating the hottest accessory trends for Fall/Winter 2024, which ranged from big gold hoops to button-style earrings. Although delicate pearl drops and elegant hoops have been popular for the past several seasons, larger, more unusual forms have gained popularity this time around, particularly on the runways of top luxury labels.

Ever wonder what happens when iconic characters vanish from their own horror franchises? As spooky sequels and reboots dominate the box office, some familiar faces from our favorite eerie classics are noticeably absent. Whether it’s due to off-screen scandals, scheduling conflicts, or behind-the-scenes drama, several beloved characters have missed their long-awaited return to the big screen. Let’s take a closer look at some of the most surprising disappearances, and why these iconic roles were recast—or simply cut—from the latest fright fests.
CHARLES DEETZ
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
How about we kick things off with one of the latest spooky sequels to grace our theater screens? Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was released in cinemas on September 6th, but fans of the original 1988 supernatural comedy were quick to notice that Jefferey Jones was missing from the star studded cast. Jones portrayed Charles Deetz, father to Winona Ryder’s Lydia Deetz and husband to Catherine O’Hara’s Delia Deetz. The 36-years-later sequel only featured Deetz as a ghost missing everything from the chest up. Considering the fact that Jones was arrested in 2002 for hiring a teenager to pose for explicit photographs and is now a registered sex offender, we can’t say we disagree with producers for making this call!

Hocus Pocus 2
One of the more child friendly franchises on our list is Hocus Pocus. The 1993 Halloween fantasy follows a teenage boy named Max and his little sister Dani who have to deal with a trio of resurrected witches. Decades later, the film is now considered a cult classic and a quintessential Halloween movie so it only makes sense that Disney would attempt to profit off of a sequel. However, scheduling conflicts kept Thora Birch from reprising her role as Dani Dennison in the 2022 sequel. Birch spoke of her disappointment in an interview with Entertainment Tonight saying she was dismayed about the fact that she was unable to make it.
PINHEAD
Hellraiser: Revelations
One of the more longer running horror franchises on our list is Hellraiser. Pinhead, the lead cenobite of the franchise, was portrayed by Doug Bradles in not one, not two, but EIGHT consecutive films. It’s worth noting that many of them were low-
budget, direct-to-video sequels which no doubt played a factor in Bradley ultimately choosing to pass on reprising his role once the ninth film was put into development. Even after a personal plea from creative staff, Bradley still declined to return for more “cheap” sequels as he felt the script was weak and believed the film was only produced in order for them to retain the rights to the franchise. Pinhead was subsequently recast in the ninth and tenth films which were unsurprisingly both low points in the Hellraiser franchise.
JASON VOORHEES
Freddy vs. Jason Friday the 13th is more than just a movie. It is an American horror franchise that comprises twelve slasher films, a television series, novels, comic books, video games, and tie-in merchandise. Needless to say, a franchise with that many films tends to require a lot of role reprising. Kane Hodder has played the hockey mask-wearing slasher Jason more times than anyone else, but he was ousted from 2003’s Freddy vs. Jason and replaced by Ken Kirzinger for what he claims to be unknown reasons. The story floating around the internet though is that director Ronny Yu wanted a greater height difference between the two villains which led to the recasting.

Halloween Kills
Before Paul Rudd was saving the world as the title character in Ant-Man, he was a young actor experiencing his film debut as an adult Tommy Doyle in 1995’s Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers—the sixth installment of the long-running Halloween series. Naturally Paul Rudd did a standout job so when Halloween Kills was in preproduction, Rudd was asked to reprise his role as adult Tommy. Unfortunately, Rudd was unable to accept the return to
the role due to scheduling conflicts with Ghostbusters: Afterlife. The new middleaged Tommy role was given to Anthony Michael Hall instead
STU MACHER
Scream 3
A sadder circumstance of an actor not reprising their role occurred with Stu Macher, portrayed by Matthew Lillard, who was intended to survive the original Scream and return in the franchise’s third installment. Macher’s plotline involved orchestrating the film’s mayhem from behind prison bars which would have partially involved getting high school students to do his dirty work for him on the outside. However, before filming could begin, the horrific Columbine High School shooting massacre occurred. The national tragedy that took place on April 20, 1999 was too similar to the film’s homicidal high schoolers plot which led to a massive reworking of the story and an unfortunate nixing of Lillard’s character’s reappearance.
SIDNEY PRESCOTT
Scream VI
As integral as Stu Macher was to the original Scream, there is still one character who’s even more of an iconic member of the franchise. Sidney Prescott was the original protagonist of the first film, but was pretty much the only surviving character who didn’t return for 2023’s Scream VI. According to Neve Campbell who portrayed Prescott in the other five films, the reason for her absence simply came down to pay disputes. She spoke about her decision in an interview with People saying, “I did not feel that what I was being offered equated to the value that I bring to this franchise, and have brought to this franchise, for 25 years…and as a woman in this business, I think it’s really important for us to be valued and to fight to be valued.”

Born in 1991 in Sancti Spiritus, Cuba, her passion for the medical field ignited during early childhood. When she was 8 years old, her parents decided to move to Havana, Cuba looking for a better future. She started dental school in Havana at the age of 18. Soon after completing her 3rd year, she had the opportunity to travel to America by herself leaving home, family and friends behind with a broken heart, but with big dreams to accomplish. She lived in Miami, FL for many years working as a dental assistant while doing her Bachelor’s degree at Florida National University. A couple of years later, she was accepted at LECOM School of Dental Medicine in Bradenton, FL where she successfully completed her degree of Doctor of Dental Medicine. A dream that started more than 10 years ago in Cuba was finally realized!
Currently, Dr. Mendez proudly works at DECA Dental/Ideal Dental serving Brandon and Tampa area striving for excellence in her practice. She believes that patient education and motivation is the key to provide them with the ideal dental care as part of a general well-being.
Fluent in Spanish and English, she has a large guest count from diverse cultures and nationalities. Dr. Mendez is certain that the future of dentistry is bright and she is thrilled to be part of it.

Dr. Huong Phan, a proud Tampa Bay native, began her journey in dentistry with a strong desire to make a difference. She earned her bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences from the University of South Florida, sparking her passion for healthcare. She then pursued a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from the LECOM School of Dental Medicine in Bradenton, FL.
Throughout her school years, Dr. Phan participated in mission trips to San Juan, Nicaragua, Cap-Haitien, Haiti, and local initiatives like Mission of Mercy and Give Kids A Smile, providing essential dental care to children. This transformative experience deepened her commitment to improving oral health in underserved communities.
Dr. Phan’s passion for pediatric dentistry led her to The Ohio State University, where she completed a pediatric dental fellowship. She further advanced her training with a pediatric dental residency at Case Western Reserve University and Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. Her rigorous training equipped her to treat patients ranging from infants to adults with special healthcare needs, using techniques like restorative care, conscious sedation, hospital dentistry, and laser dentistry for frenectomies.

She attended Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine for dental school, where she held leadership roles in several organizations. She enjoys giving back to her community through dental outreach programs like Mission of Mercy, Give Kids a Smile and schoolbased dental education programs.

Dr. Rothfeldt strives to create individualized treatment plans that address a patient’s oral health needs and aesthetic goals. The ripple of Gratitude

My friend sat on her porch, the cool autumn air swirling around her as the sun dipped below the horizon. It had been a tough year—job pressures, family challenges, and a lingering sense of stress that clung to her every thought.
She often found herself restless at night, tossing and turning, weighed down by anxiety. One evening, I mentioned a practice that had helped me through hard times— keeping a gratitude journal. I told her to write down three things she’s grateful for before bed for one week. I mentioned how it made a significant difference in my own life. Skeptical but curious, my friend decided to give it a shot.
That night, she listed three small things: the warmth of her blanket, the sound of her favorite song on the radio, and the kindness of a stranger who held the door open for her at the store. As she closed the journal, she felt an unfamiliar calm settle over her. Over the next few days, my friend noticed a subtle shift in her mindset. Each night, she found new things to be grateful for—a good cup of coffee, the laugh of a friend, a walk in the park. To her surprise, the constant whirl of negative thoughts that kept her up at night began to quiet.
After a week, her sleep improved by leaps and bounds. She woke up feeling more rested, her body refreshed and her mind at ease. It was as if the simple act of acknowledging the good in her life created space for peace. She also found herself handling stress differently. At work, when a tight deadline loomed, instead of spiraling into anxiety, she took a moment to breathe and remind herself of the progress she'd made. The gratitude journal had, without her realizing it, boosted her emotional resilience. She felt stronger, more equipped to navigate the challenges ahead.
The ripple effect of her gratitude practice didn’t stop there. My friend noticed her relationships were changing, too. She started thanking her partner for the little things—a
morning coffee, a thoughtful text. In turn, he became more appreciative of her efforts, and their bond grew stronger. They laughed more, communicated better, and felt closer than they had in months.
She reflected on her own health since starting her journal. Her persistent tension headaches had diminished, and even during stressful moments, she felt calmer, as if her body had learned to relax.
According to a study published in Applied Psychology: Health and well-being, individuals who reflected on things they were grateful for before going to bed fell asleep faster, stayed asleep longer, and reported better overall sleep quality. In addition, a study published in the American Journal of Cardiology showed that grateful individuals had lower levels of inflammation, a key factor in heart disease. In fact, those who practiced gratitude had a 16% lower risk of heart disease.
It was more than just mental—it was physical. Her heart felt lighter, her body less burdened. The gratitude practice had become her secret weapon, a simple ritual that rippled out into every part of her life. Months later, on a particularly quiet evening, she sat on her porch again, her journal resting in her lap. She smiled as she reflected on how far she'd come, all because she had chosen to focus on the good—even in the hardest of times. Gratitude, she realized, wasn’t just a fleeting feeling; it was a powerful force, one that had transformed her mind, her body, and her spirit.
