THE YEAR OF Classy STATEMENT PIECES
A PERFECT BALANCE BETWEEN BOLD & MINIMAL
As we step into 2025, the fashion landscape is embracing a striking yet modest transformation. Last year’s trends of extravagance and minimalism collide, creating a sweet spot where statement pieces add personality to sleek, understated outfits. The result? A wardrobe that exudes effortless sophistication while leaving room for individuality.
MINIMALISM MEETS ELEGANCE
2024 brought a wave of minimalistic chic, focusing on clean lines, monochromatic palettes, and functional designs. Meanwhile, the year’s fascination with over-thetop ensembles showed the power of bold accessories and exaggerated silhouettes. In 2025, these two worlds unite, bringing modest elegance to the forefront with a touch of daring flair.
Imagine a sleek black dress paired with an oversized hat that commands attention. Or a sharp tailored blazer complemented by dramatic gloves and bold sunglasses. These statement pieces act as conversation starters, turning a simple outfit into a memorable look.
THE ART OF SUBTLE DRAMA
This year’s fashion mantra is all about balance. Key pieces— like structured hats, bold eyewear, or opera-length gloves— are designed to elevate rather than overwhelm. They offer a refined sexiness, hinting at boldness while staying grounded in timeless style.
Incorporating these statement pieces into a wardrobe doesn’t require an overhaul. A single bold item, like a sculptural hat or sleek gloves, can transform an otherwise simple outfit. It’s about choosing accessories with purpose, blending practicality and artistry to leave a lasting impression.
WHY THIS TREND WORKS
2025’s modest class trend aligns with a broader movement towards thoughtful consumption and individuality. Instead of overindulgence, it encourages us to invest in highquality, versatile pieces that stand out without shouting.
This approach also creates a sense of empowerment. The right statement piece—a dramatic hat, oversized sunglasses, or striking jewelry—adds confidence to any look. It’s the perfect way to carry yourself with elegance while hinting at your unique personality.
HOW TO STYLE CLASSY STATEMENT PIECES
Start with a Neutral Base: Build your outfit with sleek, minimal staples like a tailored blazer, a black midi dress, or a clean jumpsuit.
Choose One Bold Accent: Add a statement accessory—such as a structured hat, dramatic gloves, or bold eyewear. Keep It Balanced: Let the statement piece shine by keeping other elements simple. Avoid overloading the outfit with multiple bold items.
Play with Textures: Incorporate rich fabrics like satin, leather, or velvet for an added layer of sophistication. Focus on Quality: Choose pieces that are well-crafted and timeless to ensure they’ll last beyond this season.
2025 is your year to redefine elegance. It’s a celebration of modesty, individuality, and the power of a single accessory to turn heads. With statement pieces that

Adanola:
Confidence WHERE COMFORT MEETS
How Adanola Combines Comfort and Confidence in Their Latest Collection
Activewear has come a long way from being confined to the gym. Today, it’s a statement of style, comfort, and confidence, designed to keep up with multifaceted lives. Adanola’s latest collection, fronted by Kendall Jenner, encapsulates this evolution perfectly. With pieces that transition effortlessly from morning workouts to leisurely afternoons, the collection isn’t just redefining activewear—it’s redefining how we feel in our clothes - Because when you feel comfortable, you feel confident.
Redefining Confidence: Clothing as Empowerment
For decades, fashion has been a means of self-expression, but it has often come with compromises: Beauty at the expense of comfort, or practicality overshadowed by aesthetics. Activewear, particularly brands like Adanola, challenges this paradigm. It offers a form of empowerment rooted in both functionality and elegance, encouraging women to dress in ways that honor their bodies and their busy lives.
Kendall Jenner’s involvement in the campaign feels deliberate in this context. As a global icon and advocate for modern femininity, Jenner symbolizes a shift in how women’s fashion is marketed—not as a tool for conformity, but as a celebration of individuality and strength.
The Sociology of Comfort & Confidence
Comfort in clothing has long been dismissed as a secondary concern, often overshadowed by societal pressures to appear polished and “put together.” However, the rise of activewear reflects a cultural shift: One that prioritizes well-being, authenticity, and self-assurance. Feeling comfortable in what we wear is no longer a luxury; it’s a foundation for confidence, and in turn, confidence is inherently empowering.
Adanola’s pieces, with their soft fabrics, effortless fits, and thoughtful designs, embrace this philosophy. They reflect a deeper understanding of the modern woman’s needs: Clothing that doesn’t restrict but instead liberates, allowing for self-expression and movement.
Activewear as a Symbol of Modern Feminism
At its core, activewear is about utility, but it has evolved into something far greater — a symbol of the intersection between style and substance. For women, this shift represents a small but meaningful form of rebellion against outdated norms. Gone are the days when women were expected to sacrifice their comfort or autonomy for fashion. Today, brands like Adanola remind us that we deserve clothing that works for us, not against us.
This sentiment is echoed in Kendall Jenner’s statement about the collection: “Collaborating with such a talented team was inspiring, and the comfort and quality of the new collection made the experience truly exceptional.” Her words capture the joy of wearing something that doesn’t just look good but feels good—a small yet significant act of self-care.
Final Thoughts
The Adanola campaign featuring Kendall Jenner isn’t just about a new collection; it’s a reflection of a broader cultural movement. It celebrates women who demand more from their clothing — more comfort, more confidence, and more adaptability. It acknowledges that fashion can be a tool for empowerment, not just a vehicle for aesthetic pleasure.
In a world that often asks women to juggle countless roles, clothing like Adanola’s reminds us that feeling good in our own skin and in what we wear isn’t just a privilege, it’s a right.

GONE ARE THE DAYS OF SACRIFICING COMFORT FOR STYLE— ADANOLA’S COLLECTION PROVES YOU CAN HAVE BOTH
Why Confidence
is the Most Important Accessory You Will Ever Wear
By Maha Chaudhry
Have you ever come across someone and immediately felt drawn to their charisma? There was something so intriguing about the way they carried themselves, maintained bold eye contact, and most importantly, felt at ease within themselves? Chances are, you were encountering a seamlessly confident individual.
Confidence is a powerful thing. After all, it is a belief in one’s self and one’s abilities, qualities and judgment. It reflects the way we see ourselves, as well as a sense of assurance and self-reliance that allows us to face challenges, make decisions, and take ultimate action.
But be careful not to mistake arrogance for confidence, though impactful in their own ways, these two are clearly not the same thing, nor are they worn the same way.
Confidence can be worn in different ways. But here’s what it basically looks like: You, in your most authentic form.
When someone possess this notable trait, they are automatically seen as a secure individual, which aids to their sense of self. In contrast, the opposite is true. Too little of it can be perceived as low self-esteem, which contributes to feelings of inadequacy or insecurity. In fact, low self-esteem is correlated with higher rates of anxiety and depression. About 64% of individuals with low confidence report experiencing significant mental health challenges (APA, 2023). That is more than half of the population.
So, what’s the right amount of confidence? Well, simply put, it’s the size that fits (you). This means, it comes from a place of truth, in other words, genuine conviction.
According to Gallup's 2023 Global Emotions Report, about 62% of adults worldwide feel
confident in their ability to handle personal challenges. However, this varies significantly across cultures and regions.
As humans, we are naturally drawn to confidence, despite whether or not we possess much of it ourselves. It’s no wonder why in a 2023 Match.com survey, 89% of singles said they are more attracted to someone who displays confidence on a first date. Just like the right pair of shoes brings together the outfit, the right amount of confidence certainly makes one appear more attractive. The best part, it comes at no cost, unlike those Jimmy Choo’s you just splurged on.
When you make confidence your ultimate accessory, you are declaring to the world your sense of self-worth and self-belief. In doing so, you are opening yourself to new opportunities - professionally and personally, romantically and platonically.
Studies show time and time again, those who exhibit confidence are most likely to achieve their career goals, suffer less from rejection and take on leadership roles. Forbes named confidence one of the top three traits employers look for in prospective employees. And believe me, just like you can sense when there’s an elephant in the room, you can sense confidence too. Not only does this powerful persona help you thrive professionally, but also personally when it comes to self-esteem, therefore impacting your intimate relationships.
So how do we maximize this ultimate accessory known as confidence? There are a few several ways, but they all begin and end with a healthy mindset. We already addressed how low-self-esteem is correlated to high levels of anxiety; targeting those areas first are key to getting to a good-feeling place emotionally.
Ask yourself, what will it ultimately take to make yourself feel more confident? Write it down. From there, take those things and turn them into action items. For example, if having a better career will make you feel more confident, what are the steps you can take to achieve getting there? The progress you make toward your goals will make you feel better, resulting in higher levels of confidence. Such is true about physical appearance. Most people usually have some form of getting in shape as a bulleted item in their new year’s resolution. Plus, engaging in regular physical activity can boost confidence by up to 30%, according to a study published in the Journal of Health Psychology.
The new year has just begun - start it off right by doing all the things that make you feel good internally, and as a result, they are bound to show up externally. After all, confidence never goes out of style.
And, Audrey Hepburn wasn’t wrong when she said the prettiest girls are the happiest girls - but I truly believe confident people are the happiest people.
The Power of Saying No
Why You Shouldn’t Be Afraid
By Natalie Smith
"WHEN YOU SAY NO TO THINGS THAT DON’T ALIGN WITH YOUR GOALS, YOU’RE NOT CLOSING DOORS—YOU’RE CREATING
SPACE FOR THE OPPORTUNITIES AND RELATIONSHIPS THAT TRULY MATTER."
In a world that often celebrates constant availability and saying yes to every opportunity, learning to say no can feel like a rebellious act. Yet, the ability to say no is a crucial skill for maintaining your mental health, protecting your time, and fostering self-respect. Many people struggle with this simple, two-letter word, fearing rejection, conflict, or being labeled as selfish. However, saying no can be one of the most empowering choices you make.
Why We Fear Saying No
At its core, the fear of saying no often stems from the desire to be liked and accepted. People worry that declining an invitation, request, or responsibility will hurt their relationships or damage their reputation. This is especially true in professional settings, where saying yes is often equated with ambition or being a team player. Additionally, some individuals feel a sense of guilt or obligation when they turn someone down, as if their refusal diminishes their worth.
The Cost of Always Saying Yes
While saying yes may feel like the easier option in the short term, it can have long-term consequences. Overcommitting yourself can lead to burnout, stress, and resentment. When you consistently prioritize others’ needs over your own, you risk neglecting your personal goals, well-being, and relationships. Saying yes to everything also dilutes your focus, preventing you from giving your best to the commitments that truly matter.
The Benefits of Saying No
Saying no is not about being rude or dismissive; it’s about setting boundaries and honoring your own needs and priorities. When you say no to things that don’t align with your goals or values, you create space for opportunities that truly matter. It also builds self-respect and teaches others to value your time.
Moreover, saying no can enhance your relationships. It fosters honesty and ensures that when you do say yes, it’s a genuine commitment rather than an obligation.
How to Say No Gracefully
• Be Clear and Direct: A polite but firm “No, I can’t” is better than vague excuses.
• Offer Alternatives: If appropriate, suggest another time or solution.
• Practice: Saying no becomes easier with repetition.
Remember, saying no doesn’t mean you’re rejecting a person—it means you’re prioritizing what matters most to you. Embrace your right to set boundaries, and you’ll find a greater sense of control, balance, and peace in your life. Saying no is not selfish; it’s self-care.

MARGARITAVILLE AT SEA ISLANDER
By Riesa Pascal-Porro
Where It’s Always 5 O’Clock
I sailed aboard Margaritaville at Sea's newest flagship vessel and now I can’t wait to book my next Islander cruise!
Though I have been on a handful of cruises in my lifetime, going on a Caribbean cruise with my husband was a bucket list item that I never expected to check off in as grand of a fashion as what I recently experienced aboard Margaritaville at Sea Islander. When I first learned that Jimmy Buffett’s cruise line had added a second, larger cruise ship to their fleet, I immediately jumped at the booking opportunity for multiple reasons beyond just finally fulfilling a newlywed dream. First and foremost, the new Margaritaville at Sea Islander departed from the Port of Tampa Bay which for us was a significantly shorter and more convenient drive than heading to Port of Miami where all my previous cruise sailings had departed from. Secondly, and more importantly, my husband and I realized that sailing on the Islander presented us with the unique opportunity to experience something truly one-of-a-kind and special: being one of the first to embark on a fully redesigned flagship vessel that boasted a completely new way to “float into an island state of mind.”
We booked the only 4-night itinerary aboard the Islander which featured an all-day venture at the tropical island oasis of Cozumel along with two full days at sea for the perfect combination of excursion fun and resort-at-sea relaxation. As we joined our fellow passengers stepping foot onto the ship for the first time, it was immediately evident that the Margaritaville at Sea team had pulled out all the stops to ensure their newest vessel was synonymous with the iconically relaxed Margaritaville lifestyle. The ship’s entrance led us straight into Flip Flop Atrium Bar, just one of the 13 uniquely themed bars and lounges located on board. There we were serenaded by the soothing sounds of Guitarist Emman as we raised carefully crafted signature cocktails in cheers to the start of our unforgettable journey.
Ahead of the ship’s highly anticipated 5 O’Clock Somewhere Sail Away Party, we were able to stop by our stateroom for a quick refresh and admiration of our new home for the next 4 nights. Having booked a Grand Terrace Suite for our stay which easily
accommodates 1-4 guests, my husband and I were more than comfortably situated for our cruise to paradise. The impressive balcony stateroom featured a separate seating area, upgraded linens and pillows, and even a comfy lounge sofa accompanied by premium amenities like concierge services, complimentary nightly dining in the Islander Dining Room, priority boarding and debarkation, and much more. It would’ve been easy to kick our sandals off and spend the rest of the day soaking up the sun on our private balcony loungers, but we both knew there was much left to be seen outside our doors.
Beyond the Flip Flop Atrium Bar that greeted us upon our arrival, there were still 12 other bars and lounges that we were able to explore and enjoy over the course of our sailing. Three poolside bars provided the perfect setting to enjoy an ice cold beverage outdoors in the gentle Caribbean breeze. The three-story Landshark Bar and Lookout took center stage on the Islander’s pool deck with shaded seating, a 360-degree lookout tower island and a jaw-dropping outdoor screen for live sports and entertainment. The adults only Tiki Bar was another outdoor location offering up stunning views from a covered pavilion while the Islander’s 5 O’Clock Somewhere Bar was the signature poolside lounge to grab a tasty bite while enjoying live island music at the accompanying Six String music stage.
For my husband and I, we became particularly fond of the beautifully designed indoor crafted lounges situated around the vessel with each boasting a unique vibe and theme. Hemisphere Dancer Craft Spirits was an intimate location where soft conversation flowed by day and live latin music had us on our feet by night. As a Cuban man and sports fan, my husband obviously had to stop by Havana Daydreamin’ Sports Bar and Lounge while the Prosecco-lover in me delighted in a glass of perfectly chilled bubbly at Bubbles Up Lounge and Champagne Bar. The Far Side Lounge was easily a fan-favorite amongst ourselves and our fellow passengers as we frequently returned to the venue to enjoy refreshing drinks alongside family friendly games and activities taking place on the Far
Side Lounge stage. The aquarium-themed Coral Reef Lounge was a fitting setting for ocean-inspired cocktails while cheering on our fellow cruisemates in lively karaoke and hilarious game shows that kept the laughter going all night long. The Hot, Hot, Hot Night Club brought opportunities for even more after hours fun as DJ Kash kept the twostory nightclub pulsing with our favorite dancing hits. The only way we were able to tear ourselves away for bed each night was reminding ourselves that we could do it all over again tomorrow!
Every day we received a new ‘Checklist to Chill’ booklet with daily itinerary highlights and a full hour-by-hour breakdown of the various Islander activities taking place under the direction of our lively and energetic Cruise Director Orlando Majic. To say we were at a loss for choices of what to experience each day is an understatement, but we quickly learned that it was impossible to make any decision that we would regret. From happy hours featuring $5 Blackjack in the Margaritaville Casino to a salsa dance class in the Far Side Lounge and so much more, every day was jam packed with unique adventures and creative experiences including nightly entertainment shows in the Stars on the Water Theater. Awardwinning Illusionists Ernesto Pico and Andrea Gonzalez kicked off the first night’s astounding Adrenaline Magic show while our second day at sea featured the captivating production, Conky Tonkin’ At Sea which had us singing along from the beginning to end. Comedian Jay Whitaker headlined night three while another original Margaritaville at Sea production—Caribbean Heat Remix—brought our final night to a close with incredible must-see acrobats, dancers and singers that lit up the stage on a musical journey through the islands.
As I reflect on the many highlights of our time on the Islander, I would have a hard time narrowing my favorite down to just one singular activity or offering. That being said, one highlight that both my husband and I can agree on is that each and every single meal, bite and sip on board was a complete and utter culinary delight. In addition to numerous specialty dining options, the Islander also featured five complimentary restaurants that kept us continually fueled in between our poolside cocktails and the fun-soaked activities we embarked on. Cantina presented the opportunity to build our own street-style tacos while Cheeseburger in Paradise Burger Bar was the ideal location to enjoy a savory burger with freshly prepared ingredients and toppings. Fins Dining was the Islander’s main dining room boasting mouthwatering island-inspired dishes like Avocado Lime Mahi Mahi while the Port of Indecision Buffet staff saw our faces return again and again as we continuously enjoyed an impressive variety of tantalizing all you can eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. When late-night hunger struck, Frank & Lola’s Pizzeria provided our rumbling stomachs with hand-tossed classic pizza pies. For our final Islander meal, however, we opted to treat ourselves to a lavish and upscale dinner at the Islander’s JWB Prime Steakhouse. The elegant eatery paired the ship’s island charm with various culinary masterpieces boasting the highest quality ingredients such as my Colorado Rack of Lamb with Apricot Chutney or the perfectly prepared Prime Ribeye that my husband joyfully devoured.
With so much to do, eat, and see upon stepping aboard the Islander, it was almost easy to forget that a whole day of activity still awaited us in Cozumel, Mexico. To make the most of our port day—and for added peace of mind—we opted to book an excursion through Margaritaville at Sea’s preferred partners which proved to be a decision we would not regret. There were a host of excursion options available to passengers, but we felt particularly called to the Stingray, Sharks and Beach Party. When port day finally arrived, we woke up to the ship pulling up to Mexico’s breathtaking tropical paradise located off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. Together alongside a dozen other passengers that would quickly become new friends, we hopped aboard a catamaran for a trio of aquatic adventures that included snorkeling over spectacular underwater coral reefs, enjoying a shallow water swim with friendly nurse sharks and petting gentle, barb-free stingrays in interactive enclosures. Our extraordinary journey concluded with a generous beachside lunch featuring endless chicken tacos in fresh corn tortillas and an open bar with delightfully tasty margaritas that would’ve made Jimmy Buffet himself proud.
Even though the Margaritaville crooner sadly passed away before the Islander was launched, I like to think he’s looking down on it from
that big Margaritaville in the sky and smiling fondly at the way his life’s work culminated into the Margaritaville at Sea brand and this newest addition to their growing fleet. From lyrics plastered on the walls to cleverly titled menus and everything in between, the Islander was the ultimate tribute to the late singer-songwriter and sailing aboard this remarkable ship was an exceptional experience from sunrise to sunset. From hitting the shops for the perfect souvenir to enjoying world-class performances or relaxing moments by the pool… there was something exciting happening onboard at every corner of Margaritaville at Sea’s newest and most innovative vessel. My husband and I are already eager to set sail towards another unforgettable moment on board and were further excited by the news that Margaritaville at Sea is adding several new ports of call to their Islander sailings in 2025 and 2026. This year, they will sail to Costa Maya, Belize, Ocho Rios, Roatan and Grand Cayman. In 2026, they will sail to Aruba, Curaçao, Montego Bay and New Orleans. If you’re also ready to experience the bliss of a cruise to paradise “where it’s always 5 O’Clock,” it may be time to plan your own future sailing. No matter the occasion for your trip, I can guarantee that the endless options for fun, quality dining and much needed relaxation will make this a decision you too won’t regret.

THE BMW R 12 S
A TIMELESS TRIBUTE
In a stunning nod to its heritage, BMW Motorrad introduces the BMW R 12 S, an expansion of the Heritage range that pays homage to the legendary BMW R 90 S. First unveiled in 1973, the R 90 S redefined motorcycle dynamics with 67 horsepower and a top speed of 200 km/h. But it wasn’t just about performance; it was a statement of style and innovation. Designed by the visionary Hans A. Muth, the R 90 S became the world’s first production motorcycle to feature an aerodynamically designed handlebar fairing, with a distinctive red “90” emblazoned on the engine emblem—a detail that turned heads both on and off the racetrack.
Racing Glory: A Legacy Built on Triumphs
The R 90 S quickly cemented its place in history, bolstered by significant racing victories. Notably, Hans-Otto Butenuth and Helmut Dähne secured a class win at the 1976 Isle of Man Production TT, while Steve McLaughlin triumphed at the prestigious 200 Miles of Daytona. That same year, Reg Pridmore became the first AMA Superbike Champion, further elevating the R 90 S to iconic status. Decades later, it remains one of the most sought-after motorcycles in BMW’s storied lineup.
Modern Masterpiece: The BMW R 12 S
The BMW R 12 S brings the spirit of the R 90 S into the modern era, offering an authentic yet contemporary retro bike experience. Building on the R 12 nineT platform, this machine exudes timeless appeal while incorporating cutting-edge technology. Key design elements include a handlebar-mounted cockpit fairing with a tinted windshield, a Lavaorange metallic paint finish inspired by the 1975 R 90 S Daytona Orange, and a seat with contrast stitching. Subtle touches, such as the red “S” on the side covers and brushed aluminum tank and seat hump, complete the homage.
“The design of the R 12 S captures the essence of its predecessor while presenting it in a modern context,” says Alexander Buckan, Head of BMW Motorrad Design. “It’s a perfect blend of nostalgia and innovation.”
Premium Features for the Discerning Rider
The BMW R 12 S comes generously equipped, blending heritage aesthetics with advanced functionality. Standard features include Option 719 Classic II wire-spoke wheels, Billet packs Shadow and Shadow II, and the innovative Headlight Pro for adaptive
cornering illumination. Additionally, the Comfort Package offers Hill Start Control, Shift Assistant Pro, Heated Grips, and Cruise Control, ensuring every ride is as luxurious as it is exhilarating.
The R 12 S also invites extensive customization through BMW Motorrad’s comprehensive accessory program. Riders can opt for factoryinstalled features like Tire Pressure Control, Anti-Theft Alarm System, and the Intelligent Emergency Call. Original accessories, such as titanium exhaust systems, soft bags, and a sleek short rear end, further enhance the bike’s dynamic presence.
A New Chapter in Heritage
The BMW R 12 S is more than a motorcycle; it’s a celebration of BMW Motorrad’s legacy, blending the timeless allure of the R 90 S with the performance and innovation of today. Whether carving corners or making a statement in the city, the R 12 S stands as a testament to BMW’s commitment to craftsmanship, design, and the enduring thrill of the ride.

As February ushers in Florida’s mild winter, the fashion world finds itself captivated by Valentino’s Spring 2025 ready-to-wear collection. Designed by Pierpaolo Piccioli, this season’s offering is a theatrical exploration of bold textures and timeless elegance, seamlessly marrying opulence with wearability.
One of the most striking aspects of this collection is its interplay of dramatic details with an ethereal sensibility. For instance, voluminous gowns with ruffled layers, paired with delicate veils, showcase Piccioli’s ability to create a sense of whimsy while maintaining sophistication. These pieces, while extravagant, remain wearable in Florida’s cooler yet gentle winter, offering drama without compromising comfort.
The collection also embraces opulent patterns and rich fabrics, evident in the tapestry-like prints of jackets and pants that evoke a sense of heritage and artistry. These ensembles are balanced with contemporary cuts, like tailored trousers and oversized hats, ensuring a seamless blend of past and present. For Florida’s fashion enthusiasts, incorporating statement pieces like these jackets—layered over simple dresses or paired with lightweight blouses—can make for a practical yet stunning look.
Textures play a pivotal role in this collection, with Piccioli exploring materials like lace and polkadot tulle to bring an airy, romantic quality to even the most dramatic silhouettes. Accessories,
like feathered hats and satin headpieces, elevate the overall aesthetic, adding a theatrical touch that can be toned down or amplified, depending on your mood. These elements are perfect for Floridians seeking to experiment with bold textures while remaining seasonally appropriate.
Another notable theme is the collection’s reinterpretation of femininity and power through layering and structure. The use of black lace and tiered ruffles, oversized accessories, highlights the duality of strength and delicacy—an ideal fit for those who love making a statement with their wardrobe.
Piccioli’s focus on artistry extends to footwear as well. Delicate flats adorned with ribbons add an element of playfulness, proving that high fashion can also be practical. These pieces allow for individuality and creativity, encouraging a personal touch to every outfit.
Ultimately, Valentino’s Spring 2025 collection reminds us that fashion is an art form meant to inspire and transform. With its rich textures, intricate details, and dramatic flair, this collection invites us to embrace bold choices while staying true to our own unique style—even in Florida’s versatile climate. Whether it’s an oversized tapestry coat or a lace-adorned dress, Piccioli’s latest designs provide endless possibilities for those ready to experiment with fashion’s grandest elements.

POP OF RED
“RED IS THE COLOR OF PASSION AND EMPOWERMENT— PERFECT FOR MAKING A BOLD STATEMENT”
February 14th is a yearly reminder to cherish those closest to you, including yourself, regardless of whether you consider Valentine’s Day to be a 24-hour love fest or just a fun commercial holiday. Receiving a card, roses, and a box of chocolates is acceptable, but why not also give yourself a little beauty and style? Valentine’s Day is inextricably linked to red, which stands for romance, passion, and love. Red, which is one of my favorites, is a striking and potent color that makes a big impression in fashion. Red is the color of attraction and makes for fantastic Valentine’s Day attire, since it draws that wanted attention.
One of the newest fashion trend colors is racy red, which is closely followed by passionate pink. Both are adding a new, romantic touch to Valentine’s Day 2025. The biggest impact and real attention-getters are those bright reds and vivid pinks. Deeper berry reds and lighter pinks create a softer, more romantic vibe.
Best Shades of Red for You
The appropriate shade of red can improve your skin tone by making you appear more radiant and healthier. Traditionally, red may not be the right color for you. Dark rose-pink with a hint of warmth is my greatest red. How did I discover it? By a color analysis, which creates a unique color palette just for you - by examining your unique personal colors, such as your skin’s tone, eyes, hair, and natural blush. The intensity of your blush is your own version of red. This is the hue of romance for you. Your romantic color will be elevated to the deepest shade of red that lets you shine, highlighting your look and attractiveness. This is your power red. This color will have a more dramatic effect, and you will be noticed!
It is crucial to think about the shade of red that best suits your skin tone when wearing it. Look for blue reds, for example, if your skin tone is cool, and golden or orange-based reds if your skin tone is warm. Additionally, red can arouse sentiments of sensuality and confidence. The hue might make you feel more desirable and attractive and attract romance. Additionally, wearing red can make you feel more selfassured, motivated, and independent—all of which can increase your happiness and enable you to shine in

your daily attire and exude those positive vibes. To put it another way, you do not have to save that brand-new red dress or outfit you just bought for Valentine’s Day; instead, use red in diverse ways, and incorporate red in your everyday looks!
The “Pop of Red” trend is in for 2025, having a strong impression on street style, fashion influencers, and celebrities. This style revolves around the vivid color red, which has come to life through understated styling and surprising combinations. The secret to mastering the art of red in 2025 is striking a balance between statement-making and simplicity. The secret is to subtly add one red piece to an otherwise muted or neutral outfit to create a focal point that draws attention without overpowering the overall style. Accessorizing is one of the easiest ways to follow the “Pop of Red” trend. A striking scarf, a bold necklace, a statement pair of shoes, or a vivid red handbag may quickly add personality and excitement to a monotone ensemble. Red hair accessories or jewelry provide a delicate yet effective method to add the trend into regular clothing for individuals who like a more understated look. Even the most basic of outfits can become fashion statements with the right placement of a pop of red. Choosing one red item of clothing, whether it be a fitted blazer, a flowing skirt, or a stylish pair of pants, can give any ensemble a dash of flair and sophistication. For a contemporary spin, think about combining various hues of red or mixing textures to create visual interest and depth.
In the end, 2025 is all about confidence and selfexpression. Adopting the power of red in your wardrobe will leave a lasting impact, whether you decide to go for a more understated look with wellchosen accessories or go for a dramatic statement with a head-to-toe red ensemble. So go ahead and embrace your inner style icon. A bold pop of red for Valentine’s Day fashion may make you feel attractive, confident, and romantic with the correct shade and styling.

Celebrities with Engagements 4+
THE STARS WHO FOUND LOVE ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS… AND HAVE THE HARDWARE TO PROVE IT!
There’s either something in the water or it’s engagement season again in Hollywood! We’re just one month into 2025, but entertainment news outlets have been buzzing nonstop about some of America’s most eligible bachelorettes being taken off the market. From Selena Gomez to Zendaya, multiple celebrities will be celebrating their first ‘engaged’ Valentine’s Day this month. Obviously the hope is that these engagements will end in a picture-perfect— albeit expensive—wedding and a life lived happily ever after. However, celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Kate Hudson (who’ve both been engaged three times) will tell you that’s not always the case. Here’s a look at some other stars who have found a love worthy of engagement on more than one occasion.
By Riesa Pascal-Porro
JULIA ROBERTS – 4 ENGAGEMENTS
The Pretty Woman star has been engaged four times with her final run thankfully resulting in a successful long-term marriage with her current husband Daniel Moder. Roberts was first engaged to her Steel Magnolias co-star Dylan McDermott before embarking on a 10-month long engagement to Kiefer Sutherland which ended just days before they were to tie the knot in 1991. Two years later, the actress then got married to Lyle Lovett after just three weeks of dating before divorcing in 1995.
BRAD PITT – 4 ENGAGEMENTS
After nearly a decade of legal fighting, a judge finally signed off on Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s tumultuous divorce on December 30, 2024. The high-profile relationship was actually the result of Pitt’s 4th engagement. The Academy Award-winning actor was first engaged to fellow actress Jill Schoelen, but she dropped Pitt for a movie director after only three short months. Pitt was then engaged to Gwyneth Paltrow, but their engagement ended just six months later. In 1999, Brad proposed to Jennifer Aniston which led to a five-year marriage that ended after the actor famously fell in love with his future wife Angelina Jolie on the set of Mr & Mrs Smith.
PARIS HILTON – 4 ENGAGEMENTS
Hotel heiress Paris Hilton is now happily married to Carter Reum whom she shares two children with, but the socialite was engaged three other times before she got her happily ever after. Hilton was first engaged to model Jason Shaw at just 20 years old, but the couple split the following year. In 2004, Hilton received her second proposal from Greek shipping heir Paris Latsis, but their engagement was called off in 2005. After less than a year of dating, Hilton became engaged for a third time to The Leftovers star Chris Zylka. Their engagement was also over within a year, but thankfully her fourth engagement to Reum in 2021 stuck as they tied the knot eight months later.
KALEY CUOCO – 4 ENGAGEMENTS
Despite frequently saying she’d never get married again, The Big Bang Theory actress announced her engagement to Tom Pelphrey in August 2024 which marks the fourth time she has been given a ring. Her first fiancé was addiction specialist Josh Resnik who proposed in 2011, but they separated the following year. Cuoco then became engaged to tennis player Ryan Sweeting after only three months of dating. They were married in December 2013
before divorcing in 2015. Cuoco collected her third ring in December 2017 when Equestrian Karl Cook popped the question on her birthday. They tied the knot in 2018, but separated in 2021. Let’s hope her fourth time’s a charm!
JOHNNY DEPP – 4 ENGAGEMENTS
The Pirates of the Caribbean star has dropped to his knees and popped the question four times, but only two of those proposals actually led to marriage. Johnny Depp’s first marriage was at the tender age of 20 to makeup artist Lori Anne Allison in 1983. The couple split after two years and his next engagement was to Dirty Dancing’s Jennifer Grey just two weeks after they met, but she reportedly broke up with him 9 months later via a note left in his hotel room. Winona Ryder was the proud recipient of his third engagement ring purchase with Depp proposing five months after their first date. They were together for three years before separating in 1993. Despite a 14 year relationship and welcoming children together, Johnny never married his long term partner Vanessa Paradis. Shortly after their split, Depp began his relationship with Amber Heard and proposed for a fourth time in January 2014. Heard became his second wife in 2015, but the couple split in 2016 and went through a highly followed and televised court battle in 2022.
DREW BARRYMORE – 5 ENGAGEMENTS
So far we’ve only talked about celebrities with four engagements so let’s kick it up a notch with Drew Barrymore who has been engaged five times. The first proposal was to Leland Hayward III when she was just 16, but the pair called their nuptials off months later. Barrymore was then engaged to actor Jamie Walters after three months of dating in 1992, but the couple separated the following year. The Never Been Kissed actress was still a teenager at age 19 when she married 31-year-old Jeremy Thomas after six weeks of dating—which surprisingly was longer than the amount of time the actual marriage lasted! Barrymore’s fourth fiancé was Tom Green and the couple said “I do” in 2001 before calling the marriage off in 2002. Her fifth engagement came from Will Kopelman whom she married in 2012 and welcomed two kids with before divorcing in 2016.
JENNIFER LOPEZ – 6 ENGAGEMENTS
Drew Barrymore shouldn’t feel too bad about her 5 engagements because she is still beat by the next two people in this list (and plenty of other unmentioned celebs with an impressive
collection of engagement rings). Take Jennifer Lopez for example who has been engaged a whopping six times. Her first engagement was to waiter-turned-restaurateur Ojani Noa whom she married in 1997, before divorcing less than a year later. In 2001, Lopez married backup dancer Cris Judd, but the couple separated nine months later. She tried again for love in 2002 when she said “yes” to Ben Affleck for the first time, but they called off their engagement in 2004. Her fourth proposal and third husband was Marc Anthony whom she remained married to for 10 years before their split in 2014. Alex Rodriguez popped the question in 2019, but their engagement ended with no wedding in 2021. Nearly 20 years on from their first engagement, Bennifer rekindled their romance and became engaged a second time in 2022. They walked down the aisle that same year and enjoyed two years of marriage before calling it quits.
ELIZABETH TAYLOR – 11 ENGAGEMENTS
When it comes to engagement rings, it’s safe to say Elizabeth Taylor knows a thing or two as she’s heard the question popped an unbelievable eleven times! Even more surprisingly, only three of the engagements were called off which means Taylor has walked down the aisle EIGHT times! William Pawley Jr. was her first proposal in 1949, but they separated before tying the knot. Taylor was then married to Conrad Hilton Jr. from 1950 to 1951, followed by actor Michael Wilding from 1952 to 1957, and then Mike Todd from 1957 to 1958. Todd, her fourth husband, tragically died in a plane crash and Taylor sought comfort in his friend Eddie Fisher whom she went on to marry from 1959 to 1964. The Cleopatra actress was married to Richard Burton twice – first from 1964 to 1974, and then again in 1975 for less than a year. Shortly after her second divorce to Richard, Elizabeth said “I do” to politician John Warner which lasted for six years. Taylor was then briefly engaged to Mexican attorney Victor Luna, but they split in 1984. Her ninth fiancé was businessman Dennis Stein who proposed after a two-month romance, but the engagement was broken off within six months. Her final husband was Larry Fortensky, whom she married in 1991, but their five-year marriage came to an end in 1996.
Is this the CURE?
GROUNDBREAKING TECHNOLOGY CONVERTS CANCER CELLS INTO NORMAL CELLS
Despite the development of numerous cancer treatment technologies, the common goal of current cancer therapies is to eliminate cancer cells. This approach, however, faces fundamental limitations, including cancer cells developing resistance and returning, as well as severe side effects from the destruction of healthy cells.
KAIST (represented by President Kwang Hyung Lee) announced on the 20th of December that a research team led by Professor Kwang-Hyun Cho from the Department of Bio and Brain Engineering has developed a groundbreaking technology that can treat colon cancer by converting cancer cells into a state resembling normal colon cells without killing them, thus avoiding side effects. The research team focused on the observation that during the oncogenesis process, normal cells regress along their differentiation trajectory. Building on this insight, they developed a technology to create a digital twin of the gene network associated with the differentiation trajectory of normal cells. Through simulation analysis, the team systematically identified master molecular switches that induce normal cell differentiation. When these switches were applied to colon cancer cells, the cancer cells reverted to a normal-like state, a result confirmed through molecular and cellular experiments as well as animal studies.
This research demonstrates that cancer cell reversion can be systematically achieved by
analyzing and utilizing the digital twin of the cancer cell gene network, rather than relying on serendipitous discoveries. The findings hold significant promise for developing reversible cancer therapies that can be applied to various types of cancer.
He further emphasized, “This research introduces the novel concept of reversible cancer therapy by reverting cancer cells to normal cells. It also develops foundational technology for identifying targets for cancer reversion through the systematic analysis of normal cell differentiation trajectories.”
This research included contributions from Jeong-Ryeol Gong, Chun-Kyung Lee, HoonMin Kim, Juhee Kim, and Jaeog Jeon, and was published in the online edition of the international journal Advanced Science by Wiley on December 11. (Title: “Control of Cellular Differentiation Trajectories for Cancer Reversion”) DOI: https://doi.org/10.1002/advs.202402132
The study was supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Research Foundation of Korea through the Mid-Career Researcher Program and Basic Research Laboratory Program. The research findings have been transferred to BioRevert Inc., where they will be used for the development of practical cancer reversion therapies.
Source: KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology)
“The fact that cancer cells can be converted back to normal cells is an astonishing phenomenon. This study proves that such reversion can be systematically induced.”

CRAFTING BEAUTY
Dr. Simon Ourian’s Sculptural Skincare and Coolaser Innovation
By Josie NeJame
When it comes to transformative skincare, Dr. Simon Ourian is a world-renowned trailblazer. The founder of Beverly Hills’ iconic Epione clinic has redefined cosmetic dermatology with a philosophy that marries science and art. Known for his sculptural approach to beauty, Dr. Ourian treats the face with the precision of an artist, enhancing its natural contours rather than altering its essence. His treatments have earned him a loyal following of A-list clients, including the Kardashian-Jenner family, Lady Gaga, Nicole Scherzinger, Miley Cyrus and many more who come from around the world for his treatments.
Having previously experienced his work; I knew I was in good hands when I returned at age 46 to seek out his Coolaser treatment for my maturing skin. My daughter also visited him for her acne scarring. We both had different reasons, but our shared goal was clear: rejuvenation and renewal.
Coolaser was born from necessity. Many of Dr. Ourian’s high-profile clients, often tied to grueling schedules, couldn’t afford the extended downtime required by traditional CO2 lasers. This led him to develop a solution that delivered remarkable results in a significantly shorter timeframe. Unlike traditional lasers that heat the skin’s surface, Coolaser works by generating heat beneath the skin, triggering a healing response that stimulates collagen production and skin rejuvenation, like the body’s natural repair process after a deep skin injury—without causing any actual burn. Coolaser utilizes laser light absorbed by the water in your skin cells. This absorption causes the rapid vaporization or destruction of the targeted cells.
As Dr. Ourian moves the laser over the skin, only a minute portion—30 millionths of an inch—is removed at a time. This incredible control allows him to treat skin with remarkable accuracy, whether for smoothing wrinkles or refreshing overall skin appearance. After the damaged tissue is removed, new skin regenerates rapidly, leaving patients with rejuvenated, glowing skin.
Simon Ourian pioneered the development of Coolaser. “I wasn’t satisfied with the other laser modalities available,” says Dr. Ourian, “so I set out to create a treatment that offered me the precision I needed.”
The Coolaser not only made Dr. Ourian a household name in the field of cosmetics but also cemented his reputation as a true innovator. Patients now seek out the inventor, not just the machine. Over the years, his practice has expanded from lasers to cutting-edge treatments like non-surgical rhinoplasty and facelifts, as well as injectables such as Botox and fillers.
In the following Q&A, Dr. Ourian shares insights into his journey, the innovations that define his practice, and the philosophy that keeps his clients glowing with confidence.
You’ve become one of the most sought-after cosmetic dermatologists in the world. What inspired you to pursue a career in aesthetics, and what has shaped your philosophy in enhancing beauty?
"My journey into aesthetics really started with a fascination for how subtle changes can enhance a person’s natural beauty. I’ve always believed that beauty should be about highlighting what makes each individual unique, rather than completely changing their appearance. Over the years, this belief has shaped my philosophy, guiding me to approach each treatment as an art form, combining science with a deep understanding of human beauty."
Epione is synonymous with groundbreaking treatments. Can you share some of your most popular procedures and how they’ve evolved over the years?
"At Epione, we’ve worked hard to develop treatments that are both innovative and effective. Some of our most popular procedures include Coolaser and non-surgical rhinoplasty, which have really evolved over the years. I’m always looking for ways to refine these techniques to offer better results with minimal downtime. It’s been rewarding to see how these procedures have improved and how they’ve made a positive impact on our patients’ lives."
Your work often sets trends in non-invasive cosmetic treatments. What innovations or techniques are you most proud of pioneering?
"Innovation is at the heart of what we do. I’m particularly proud of our Coolaser treatment, which is exclusive to Epione. We’ve set a new standard in skin rejuvenation with this technique, focusing on achieving beautiful results while ensuring patient comfort and safety. Its been a wonderful journey to see these treatments evolve and to continue pioneering new methods in non-invasive aesthetics."
You’re known for working with high-profile clients. How do you navigate creating personalized results while balancing client expectations and trends?
"Working with high-profile clients is both a privilege and a challenge. It’s important to listen carefully to their desires and balance those with what will look natural and timeless. My approach is always personalized. I want each client to
feel like the best version of themselves, not like they’ve had work done. It’s about enhancing, not changing, and that takes a lot of trust and communication."
Your influence spans globally. What do you think makes your approach resonate with such a diverse clientele?
"I’m truly honored that our approach resonates with such a diverse clientele around the world. We’ve had the pleasure of working with many wonderful people, including celebrities like the Kardashian-Jenner family. Each client, regardless of their background, is treated with the same level of care and attention to detail. I think it’s this dedication to individual beauty that has helped us build such a strong reputation globally."
How do you educate patients on achieving natural results and maintaining skin health beyond treatments?
"Educating patients is a crucial part of my practice. I always emphasize the importance of maintaining skin health and achieving natural results. It’s not just about the treatments; it’s about understanding how to care for your skin daily. I enjoy sharing tips and advice on how to enhance their natural beauty in a sustainable way."
Self-care and confidence are so intertwined. How do you see your work contributing to the mental and emotional well-being of your patients?
"Seeing the confidence boost that patients get after a treatment is incredibly fulfilling. It’s not just about physical appearance; it’s about how they feel inside. Knowing that my work can contribute to someone’s mental and emotional well-being is what keeps me passionate about what I do. I feel grateful every day to be part of this journey with my patients."
The field of aesthetics is always evolving. Are there any upcoming projects or technologies that you’re excited about?
"The field of aesthetics is always evolving, and I’m excited about the future. We’re working on integrating artificial intelligence into personalized treatment plans, which will enhance precision and outcomes. It’s thrilling to be at the forefront of these advancements, always looking for ways to improve and offer the best to our patients."
In prefacing this introduction, we’d like to offer an observation, which should be of interest to all. Regardless of medical school class rankings, graduates are all referred to as “DOCTOR.”
With this revelation, we should all know that when choosing a physician, one must accept responsibility for adequately researching the doctor he or she is considering.
Within our present day society, most licensed to practice medicine are truly miracle workers whether they are completely restructuring someone’s face or saving a life. As much as we realize that every physician is an asset to our
community, we also know that some have established themselves at the top of their profession and are considered special; these are the ‘elite,’ the very best of the best.
When seeking perfection, we search for the professional who has made it his or her life goal to excel within a field of specialization through many years of study, dedication and determination, continually challenging themselves to advance their knowledge; these brilliant human beings not only save lives but also enrich their communities with a skill set second to none. Beyond this and in order to stay abreast of the latest, almost daily changing
medical advancements, the ‘elite’ undergo rigorous maintenance, updating through seminars, conferences and advanced studies to keep current with new technology and procedures.
In adding our ‘Tampa’s Doctors of the Year’ section with this issue, we present a group of physicians, all of whom are reputable, Board Certified in their areas of expertise, extremely well recognized within our community and chosen by their peers. Our objective is to initiate a continuing dialogue with our readers, with an aim toward personalizing some of the finest doctors available. Nominate Your Favorite Doctor at

DR. FRANCISCO M. TORRES
Health and Wellness Medical Director at Florida Spine Institute
Local doctor Dr. Francisco M. Torres, MD, will release his eighth book this February. His previous books on fitness, anxiety, and body image simplify complex science. In his new book, Dr. Torres challenges the idea that older adults can’t stay fit.
Based in Clearwater, Florida, Dr. Torres is an active example of fitness at an older age. Since turning 60, he has run marathons and won local bodybuilding contests. In 2020, he surprised doctors by fully recovering from a knee injury without surgery.
“In my 60s, I never thought I could do these things,” Dr. Torres said. “But it’s possible. Metabolism and muscle growth slow with age, but you can still achieve great fitness.”
His new book, Embracing Fitness as You Age, not only encourages seniors to explore health goals but also provides practical, achievable tips. By countering the stereotype of frail older adults, it empowers readers to prioritize fitness and prevent illness as their bodies change.
Dr. Torres’s fitness journey began in his 40s after a minor heart issue, which led him to develop strategies for his patients. His personal experiences, shared in his other books like Beyond Diagnosis, essays about medicine, and Epigenetics and the Psychology of Weight Loss, which explores how our backgrounds affect weight, are sure to inspire and motivate readers.
Now a grandfather, Dr. Torres has become a fitness enthusiast and marathon runner. His science-based methods, rooted in his medical background, will inspire and reassure those worried about starting a fitness journey later in life.
“With the right plan, you can reach almost any health goal,” he says. Embracing Fitness as You Age will be available in eBook and paperback on February 14th, and can be purchased from major online retailers or your local bookstore. It could make a great Valentine’s Day gift for yourself.

From the familiar music you hear filling the space in a grandiose lobby, to the hospitality of the staff who feel like family, to the traditional Southern cuisine at each restaurant. Barnsley Resort, situated on 3,000 acres in Adairsville, GA, is just that – your own storybook destination that feels like home. Barnsley Resort is where nature, history, outdoor adventure and hospitality meet to create memorable experiences in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
As the summertime wanes and the fall season arrives, Barnsley Resort bursts into a vibrant palette of reds, oranges, and golds. The expansive grounds, once the estate of Godfrey Barnsley, who began construction on his Italianate villa in the 1840s, transforms into an awe-inspiring canvas as trees shed their summer attire. Guests can wander the manicured gardens and wooded trails, where every turn reveals breathtaking sceneries, and the crisp air is tinged with the earthy aroma of the fallen leaves. The sight of sunlight filtering through the colorful canopy creates a magical atmosphere that feels like you’re stepping into a beautiful fall painting.
This is the Barnsley Resort that I know and the experience I have each time I visit. However, a myriad of renovations and upgrades have debuted and are underway at one of the South’s most acclaimed destinations. Barnsley Resort is familiar like an old friend who has grown up and found a much more sophisticated and luxurious wardrobe. Just as lovely as you remember her to be with all her charm and beauty but has debuted with an elevated persona.
One of the most notable features that encompasses the Barnsley Resort experience is their 39 free-standing cottages available to guests which can transport you to a quaint English countryside village. While these cottages have always embodied a cozy
charm that makes you want to curl up in a blanket next to the soothing crackle of a stone fireplace, the newly renovated cottages have given the property a fresh appeal while maintaining its Southern charm and hospitality.
The fresh but charming design is inspired by a heritage color palette and the classic flora and fauna that is both luxurious and nostalgic of the Southern region. Accessories such as artwork influenced by the resort’s offerings, rattan sconces, vintage-inspired lanterns and other mixed-metal finishes blend seamlessly to feel as if they have been collected over time. To establish a harmonious aesthetic across the Village Green, cottage facades also received a new color palette that embrace nature-inspired colors, including shades of Dried Thyme, Sage, Roycroft Bronze Green, Alabaster, Shell White, Toque White, and Charwood-stained patios and doors.
A beautiful new look isn’t the only upgrade coming to Barnsley Resort. Complementing the newly renovated cottages, additional enhancements include a traditional German Biergarten expected for a late November completion. Located in the center of the resort village, Biergarten will have a two-sided stacked stone fireplace and a covered pavilion, providing guests with endless experiences, such as watching football and lawn games in an al fresco setting. A new kitchen and
L-shape bar will serve an evolving menu of regional, German and European brews, paired with an all-day menu of biergarten classics, including pretzels and bratwurst, plus barbecue favorites slow-smoked by the resident Pitmaster, wings, salads and sandwiches.
One of the most unique experiences offered at Barnsley Resort is located at The Beretta Shooting Grounds by High Adventure Company, an1,800-acre hunting preserve located less than five miles from the resort with quail hunting available seasonally. When adventure calls, there’s plenty waiting for you upon your arrival. The shooting grounds have enhanced its offerings for sporting clays with the addition of a new five-stand station, perfect for group activities and beginners. Two new 15-station clay courses have also been designed and installed next to the clubhouse, which has been upgraded with a spacious new deck for outdoor events.
Additionally, a new field for Helice has been introduced, broadening the range of shooting experiences available. In Helice, participants aim at uniquely designed targets, called "Helices," that are launched into the air and
spin unpredictably, challenging their speed and reflexes. These additions complement the resort's extensive sporting portfolio, which includes seasonal quail and pheasant wing shooting, the Swarovski 1,000-yard challenge, and exhilarating UTV rides, all now conveniently available at one location. If hunting and shooting aren’t in the cards for you, then put your chaps on for a guided horseback ride through the stunning Blue Ridge Mountains. For younger children who are still getting used to barnyard animals, the Animal Canvasing activity offers a fun fingerpainting experience with smaller barnyard friends.
At Barnsley Resort, luxury meals surpass mere dining to become an unforgettable experience, and one that will surely awaken your palette. Imagine savoring exquisitely crafted dishes that blend the region’s vibrant flavors with gourmet techniques, all set within Barnsley Resort’s finest restaurants. Thanks to its close ties with local farmers and producers, Barnsley Resort offers some of the finest "Garden-ToTable" cuisine in Georgia. With three on-site restaurants showcasing the freshest seasonal flavors, your biggest challenge will be choosing a dish and the ideal cocktail to pair with it.
Dining at Woodlands Grill features a refreshed English hunting lodge ambiance and scenic views of the golf course, making it a perfect spot to savor comforting Southern dishes. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, it serves delicious Southern fare at any hour, along with an extensive selection of wine, craft beer, and spirits. At the other end of the main road lies Rice House, a charming 19th-century farmhouse that offers a taste of history. Originally the home of the Rice Family from Rome, Georgia, this building has been carefully relocated to Barnsley Resort. As a cornerstone of the resort's 'Garden-toTable' initiative, Rice House features a menu that changes every few weeks, highlighting ingredients grown in the on-site garden and other seasonal local produce sourced from within a 150-mile radius.
The stunning ruins of the original manor, built by Godfrey Barnsley for his wife, Julia, are a must-see, standing majestically above the resort’s renowned gardens. With authentic, locally sourced cuisine, an extensive selection of wine and bourbon, a boutique spa, an 18hole Jim Fazio-designed course, recognized as some of the fastest greens in the Southeast, and 140 guest rooms spread across the Inn and enchanting cottages, Barnsley Resort offers a blissful retreat perfect for a complete mind and body rejuvenation.
Once again, my experience at Barnsley Resort was nothing short of extraordinary. From the stunning natural landscapes to the exceptional amenities, every moment was memorable and awe-inspiring. Whether exploring the serene gardens, indulging in gourmet dining, or enjoying exhilarating outdoor activities, the resort seamlessly combines relaxation and adventure. The warm hospitality and attention to detail made me feel truly welcomed, creating memories that I will treasure long after my visit. Barnsley Resort is a perfect escape, offering an unforgettable experience that leaves you not wanting to leave and eager to return. “The freshness of the food and the aweinspiring presentation is second to none.”
O-Ku
By Cathleen K.
This rare and exceptional restaurant opened its doors on Oct. 2024. It is nestled in the heart of Alys Beach’s Town Center overlooking the lawn of the Amphitheater on scenic 30-A.
“We couldn’t be more excited to be opening O-Ku in Alys Beach,” says Steve Palmer, Founder of The Indigo Road Hospitality Group. “Alys is such a special place and is a location that we have been scouting for more than five years. Alongside our O-Ku operating partner Kimball Brienza and culinary director Masa Hamaya, we can’t wait to welcome guests and be a part of the vibrant 30A restaurant community.”
Sven and I couldn’t have agreed more. Japanese cuisine is one of our favorites, and, we really needed an upscale Japanese restaurant in this area!
Alys Beach is one of the most beautiful places in the world. Expanding on Bermuda’s architectural language with the occasional Grecian trellis, Moorish arch, and Dutch gable bring awe-inspiring flourishes to Alys Beach’s architectural white canvas. It’s truly magnificent. All up & down scenic 30-A from Rosemary Beach, to Seaside, to Watercolor, where every home has a name — it’s beautiful up here.
We’ve been coming here since our first presstrip in 2010 when Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport (ECP) offered nonstop flights from ECP to MCO. 50-minutes later, we were in paradise. Wow! Time does fly!
O-Ku is designed by David Thompson, Studio. It is beautiful, bright and airy. I would describe it as Japandi style which is all the craze right now. Combining the best of Japanese minimalism and Scandinavian simplicity, Japandi offers a harmonious blend of elegance, functionality, and natural warmth.
Born & raised in Japan, Chef Masatomo “Masa” Hamaya, leads the culinary program with the local Alys Beach team with emphasis on tradition, showcasing an authentic approach to Japanese cuisine with the freshest, seasonal ingredients possible. O-Ku Alys Beach is the second location to open in the Sunshine State, following the opening of the successful Jacksonville Beach location in 2022. And, exciting news for Tampa residents — there’s an O-Ku opening in 2025!
I must say the freshness of the food and the awe-inspiring presentation is second to none. There wasn’t a dish that I didn’t like. It’s that good. My absolute favorites: Chef Specialty: A5 WAGYU “SANDO” Japanese a5 ribeye, Kaluga
Bode, Photos by Modernmade Photography
caviar, shiso leaf, black garlic and milk bread. So tender… somehow, all the flavors work well together.
Robata: ALASKAN KING CRAB yuzu butter, seasonal truffle — My expectation was the usual steamed Alaskan king crab legs, which I really enjoy, however, they really took it up a notch! Incredibly moist with nuances of Japanese seasoning that melded so perfectly. I never had anything like it before.
Signature Temaki: Hands down—OTORO nikiri, Kaluga caviar & chive. Throughout
Japan, all of the blue fin tuna happen to be graded from the quality of the slices of oily meat which are extracted from them, especially the highly valued toro, typically the oily belly from the tuna. I could have a few of these and I’ll be happy.
Well, let’s not forget the libations! SUGAR AND SPICE vodka or tequila, passion fruit, habanero syrup, lemon juice—makes everything nice. For sure you’ll be wishing for an ENDLESS SUMMER 24OZ TENSEI, TOKUBETSU HONJOZO salted melon, citrus, crisp. On a DREAMY CLOUDS, NIGORI 24OZ RIHAKU,
JUNMAI GINJO NIGORI roasted almonds, dark plum, citrus peel. There truly is something for everyone, from the spirited to the spirit-free. This is the place to be!
A bit of history on Alys Beach
• Land purchase: Elton B. Stephens, co-founder of EBSCO, bought the 158-acre property in the 1970s for $1.2 million. He named the community after his wife, Alys, who died in 2004.
• Design: The Miami-based planning and architecture firm DPZ CoDesign was brought in to create the vision for Alys Beach. The town was designed to further develop the principles of New Urbanism and was styled after the architecture of Bermuda and Antigua.
• Groundbreaking: The first 16 houses were built in 2004. Fast forward to 2024 — the average cost of homes in Alys Beach, FL were selling for a median price of $3,949,500 in October 2024. Median $/Sqft $1,342.
Fun Fact
The 1998 comedy-drama film, The Truman Show, was filmed in Seaside, FL also on 30-A just 7.6 miles west of Alys Beach. Founded in 1981 by Robert Davis, Andrés Duany, and Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk. The idea for Seaside began in 1946 when Davis’ grandfather purchased land for a family summer retreat. The town was the main filming location for The Truman Show and it put this area on the map!
Next time you are looking for a vacay, look no further than our Sunshine State! It’s approximately 6.5 hrs drive from Orlando to Northwest Florida’s Panhandle in Walton County.
Don’t forget to dine at O-Ku and enjoy the beauty of this area—There is noting like it!
