“In 2019, we sent out a key signal with the debut of our first all-electric sports car,” said Oliver Blume Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG, at the world premiere of the new, even more versatile derivative. “We see ourselves as pioneers of sustainable mobility: by 2025, half of all the new vehicles we will deliver will have an electrified drive – either fully electric or plug-in hybrid. In 2020, one in three of all vehicles we delivered in Europe had an electric powertrain. The future belongs to electric mobility. With the Taycan Cross Turismo, we’re taking another major step in this direction.”

Cross Turismo concept study presented at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show: Its silhouette is defined by the sporty roofline sloping downward to the rear – called a “flyline” by the Porsche designers. Off-road design elements include wheel arch trims, unique front and rear lower aprons and side sills. As part of the Off-Road Design package, the Cross Turismo has special flaps at the corners of the front and rear bumpers and at the ends of the sills. These make for a striking exterior as well as providing protection from stone impacts. Sporty accessories: new rear carrier and Porsche e-bikes Especially for the Taycan Cross Turismo, Porsche has developed a rear carrier for up to three bicycles that sets the benchmark in terms of package size and handling. It can be used universally for different types of bikes. One of its innovative feature is that the tailgate can be opened even when the rear carrier is loaded. Porsche is also presenting two high-quality e-bikes at the same time – the eBike Sport and the eBike Cross. With their timeless design as well as their powerful and sustainable drive technology, they are perfectly matched to the Taycan Cross Turismo. High-tech appearance for a hightech vehicle The world premiere of the new Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo took place in the Hyperbowl Studio at the Munich Trade Fair Centre. This spectacular new studio brings together the worlds of film and reality: a 270-degree curved LED wall, 40 metres long and 5.5 m tall, is combined with an LED ceiling to provide a 478 square-metre screen surface with 70 million pixels.

A HYBRID BEAST WITH A SINGULAR VISION The All New Mercedes-Benz AMG ONE

Welcome to the future of driving performance. With the Mercedes-AMG ONE, a Formula 1 vehicle is road-ready for the very first time. From the collaborative minds of Mercedes-AMG and the Petronas Motorsport team, it features a highly-integrated powertrain with a turbocharged combustion engine and four independent electric motors: one for each front wheel, one linked to the crankcase, and one in the turbocharger itself. This results in over 1,000 horsepower and a blistering top speed of 217 mph. The front axle electric motors are capable of 50,000 rpm alone, and selective torque distribution allows for extra high levels of vehicle dynamics. This, combined with the Race Start function and the elimination of turbo lag, allows the Mercedes-AMG ONE to go from zero to 124 mph in under six seconds. While the power and handling is unrivaled, the efficiency of the Mercedes-AMG ONE is equally impressive. An EQ Power+ hybrid drive system allows for multiple driving modes, from purely electric to highly dynamic, and the regenerative brake system recoups up to 80% of braking energy. The end result is optimum output and efficiency. Visually, the Mercedes-AMG ONE evokes the premium class of motorsport with muscular proportions, numerous air inlets, and forged aluminum wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. The interior is radically minimal, with lightweight bucket seats and a Formula 1 steering wheel. But it’s the complete package that resonates, pushing the limit of what’s technologically feasible, and opening a new chapter in the history of Mercedes-Benz.

B Y D A W N H A R R I S S H E R L I N G , M . D . , F. A . C . P.

Welcome to summer in Florida, where the sun’s rays might not only fry an egg on the sidewalk, but could possibly cook a three-course meal. As we gather our rash guards, floppy hats, and gallons of sunblock to protect ourselves from this blazing inferno, we are left to wonder, is there anything good about this hellishly hot sphere? The answer, as with most things, is maybe, sometimes, and in moderation. The sun, besides being the cause of second-degree thigh burns from just trying to sit down in your car, provides us with a wonderful source of the energy needed for our own bodies to make vitamin D. This makes vitamin D unique among the vitamins. Other vitamins have to be ingested in our diets—we can’t make them at all, but with a little sunlight, we can actually make plenty of vitamin D in Florida. This isn’t true for places where there is this nasty thing called winter. But where the sun’s rays shine, like some kind of superpower, your skin can harness the ultraviolet light (UVB rays to be exact), and make an essential vitamin. Nothing else works like this in the body. While we can get small amounts of vitamin D from food or larger amounts from vitamin D supplements, why not utilize a superpower if you have one? Note: If you have skin cancer or a family history of skin cancer, the sun’s rays are actually your kryptonite and you should stay covered up.

For those who are not at high risk for skin cancer, about 15 minutes a day of direct sunlight in Florida (UVB doesn’t get through glass) should be enough to make vitamin D. However, darker skinned individuals may need a little more time in the sun and lighter skinned individuals a little less—you do not want to get a sunburn as this puts anyone at risk for skin cancer. So, while you definitely don’t want to lay unprotected on the beach for hours, a nice, brisk walk, combining a little cardio with a touch of sun, might go a long way in terms of giving your body a boost. Sadly, this doesn’t work everywhere and about half of the world’s population might not have enough vitamin D, especially during the cold months of the year. So, as you endure the heat, humidity, and hurricane warnings this summer, remember that the Florida sunshine is providing you with a little something good. Though Florida gets made fun of a lot (see: Florida man, Florida woman, golf carts on road, or alligator in pool), we get to soak up the rays— in moderation of course—that help us to provide our bodies with amazing vitamin D year-round.

Dr. Sherling is a general internist and clinical associate professor at Florida Atlantic University Schmidt College of Medicine. She is the author of several academic articles and a medical thriller, Not Quite Dead. Website: dawnharrissherling.com Twitter: @dharrissherling

Also unlike other vitamins, the probably misnamed substance is more of a hormone than a vitamin, and its effects on the body are many and varied. It has long been recognized that vitamin D helps build bones by increasing calcium absorption (that’s why it’s added it to milk). While the other upsides of vitamin D are controversial, research has suggested that adequate levels of vitamin D may help prevent cancer, improve depression, modulate blood pressure, and maybe even help the immune system fight viral infections.

INTERMITTENT

FASTING B Y

If you’re wondering why your

diet isn’t working like you thought it would, maybe you should look into your pattern of eating. Intermittent fasting, the oldest dietary regulation, is recently the world’s most popular health trend. People are seeing outstanding results in weight loss, health improvement, and simplifying their lifestyle. WHAT IS IT? Intermittent fasting is a controlled schedule of consuming meals so you attain the maximum health benefits from your intake. It doesn’t control which foods you eat, but rather when you should eat them. Ultimately, an eating pattern. With various methods, common intermittent fasting cycles contain 16-hour fasts or 24-hour fasts, two times per week. WHY? Diets’ harsh change on your body can take a toll on your energy level. It can be draining when you force such a strict food restriction. A regulated eating pattern containing all of the nutrients your body loves is easier on your body. It’s a great method to get lean while maintaining your muscle mass, without cutting your calories and nutrients. Cutting your calories and carbohydrates is not the goal

34

| STYLETOME.COM

of intermittent fasting. In fact, you want to try to keep your calorie intake the same by eating bigger meals. The behavior change isn’t a huge change in lifestyle, as diets are. Simplicity helps reduce worrying about cooking or purchasing three meals a day, or eating six snacks a day. This can consume your thoughts and make your mind concentrate on food, which isn’t healthy. Intermittent fasting is something so simple, yet can create immense results. METHODS • The 16/8: Also known as the Leangains protocol, you skip breakfast then restrict your daily eating period to 8 hours. Then, you fast for 16 hours in between. This is the most popular method. • Eat-Stop-Eat: You fast for 24 hours once or twice a week. • The 5:2 diet: For two nonconsecutive days of the week, you consumer 500-600 calories, then continue to eat normally the other five days. HOW DOES IT WORK? When your body is digesting and absorbing food, it is in the fed state. This digestion state lasts for three to five hours after consumption. While in the fed state, it’s difficult

M E G A N

M I L L E R

for your body to burn fat due to high insulin levels. After, your body enters the post-absorptive state, which is when your body isn’t processing food. This lasts 8 to 12 hours after your last consumption, starting the fasted state. The fasted state is the time when it’s easier for your body to burn fat. Your Human Growth Hormone (HGH) levels raise while fasting, which has benefits of fat loss and muscle gain. Fasting forces your body to a fat burning state that you can’t achieve on a normal eating schedule. Going on an eating pattern is not something everyone needs to do. Overall, getting nutrients, exercising, and getting plentiful sleep should be your focus. Everyone’s body works differently, and you have to find out what works best for you. As intermittent fasting is a recent trend, research is still in its early stage. However, many studies have been conducted, and it’s looking very positive when followed safely. The benefits already seen in intermittent fasting include everything leading to a better, healthy lifestyle. If you haven’t found a successful method of attaining this, intermittent fasting may be the answer! Always consult with your physician before starting a new diet.

Foods that Will Give Your Skin a Healthy, Natural Glow

& 5 Foods to Avoid By Mary Martin Armstrong

Avoid

Eat 1. Fish Try adding this lean protein to your diet for a healthy dose of Omega 3. These fatty acids aid in the production of collagen which can make your skin appear more youthful by improving its elasticity. We recommend wild salmon, as it contains antioxidants that are known to reduce inflammation. Add fish oil supplements to your vitamin intake to reap the same benefits. 2. Avocados Avocados are a great source of healthy fats, which can help reduce skin inflammation. Additionally, they contain a fair amount of vitamin E which prevents wrinkles and vitamin C which brightens your skin. Biotin is also found in avocados and is known to keep skin nice and moisturized. 3. Walnuts Like fish, walnuts contain omega 3 fatty acids and can therefore reduce inflammation and prevent heart disease. Walnuts are also a good source of vitamin

B, which can lessen stress and prevent wrinkles and aging in the skin. Remember to eat these nuts in moderation, however, as they are relatively high in calories. 4. Dark Chocolate Surprised? Most people assume that chocolate is bad for your skin. There is some truth to this, as chocolate with a high sugar content is often linked to breakouts. However, dark chocolate that has a high percentage of cacao contains flavonoids that reduce inflammation and vitamins that moisturize skin. Dark chocolate also contains minerals that can help clear eczema. 5. Tomatoes Tomatoes are a good source of vitamin E and also contain a phytochemical called lycopene which can protect your skin from damage caused by ultraviolet rays. Tomatoes can easily be added to almost any dish and are used in many skin-brightening face masks.

1. Fried Food Fried and greasy food items are linked to oily skin and acne breakouts. 2. Processed Sugars Studies have found connections between diets with larger percentages of processed sugars and more episodes of acne breakouts. 3. White Bread Refined carbohydrates are known to increase skin inflammation. 4. Chips Chips and other salty snacks can also cause inflammation and decrease collagen production. 5. Dairy Dairy-free diets have recently been linked to less breakouts and clearer skin.

BEAT the

HEAT All White Everything By Megan Miller

Dressing in all one color may seem silly and impossible, but if you know how to pull it off correctly, you’ll be fashionable and ready to take on the sun. Keeping your look head-to-toe all one color is called tonal dressing and is very popular amongst menswear. White can be a difficult one because of the variations of color such as egg shell, beige, ivory, etc., but it’s actually very simple. A rule of thumb for monochromatic looks is to make sure that each item is the same shade. By doing this your outfit looks cohesive and put together. If you find yourself bored with this try switching up the textures. Pairing linen trousers with a cotton button down shirt is the perfect light texture combo to keep you cool.

Still feeling a bit nervous to try this trend out? Sticking with a white top and a white pant and adding sharp brown accessories may be the way to go. Go all in with white loafers, or add some neutral color with a brown belt and classic brown loafers. Learning how to accessorize your tonal outfit is key, so keep those straw hats in mind! With this look you’ll be ready for your much needed tropical vacation this summer.

CRUISE READY

Pulling off hats in the summer

Time to trade in those dark colored suede fedoras for something a little more breezy. Believe it or not, when you put your Chelsea boots away for the summer, your hatwear doesn’t have to go away too. Woven and straw hats are the perfect accessory to complete your summer look. Hats are classic pieces and any man able to pull one off projects effortless elegance. Whether you’re going on a tropical vacation or just going out to lunch these light-weight hats are sure to keep you sweat-free and looking good in the summer heat.

CELEBRITY SOUP

Separated @ Birth: Celebrities Who Look Alike Are you seeing double yet? They say everyone in the world has a doppelgänger somewhere and that goes for celebrities too! Who remembers the early 2010s Facebook trend that had everyone changing their profile pictures to their supposed celebrity twin? If you do, then you probably noticed that some people have quite a… umm... for lack of better words, warped idea of the glamorous and handsome celebrities that they look identical to (sorry Johnny, but you are not Ryan Ryenold’s twin). However, the following celebrities on our list get mistaken for each other so often that it’s worth stopping to ask if you see the resemblance too!

By Riesa Pascal

54

| STYLETOME.COM

CELEBRITY SOUP

Sarah Hyland and Mila Kunis The Modern Family and That 70s Show actresses get mistaken for each other so often that they made a pact to pretend to be each other in public. Hyland spoke of their resemblance in an interview with InStyle saying, "She said that sometimes she pretends she's me because it makes her feel young. I asked if I could pretend to be her next time somebody asks me if I'm her, and she said OK." Natalie Portman and Keira Knightley These next two celebrities look so identical that even Hollywood has taken advantage of their resemblance! If you’re a Star Wars fan, then you may remember that Knightley actually played the role of Padme Amidala's (portrayed by Natalie Portman) decoy double in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. According to Knightley, she also gets mistaken for Britney Spears, but I for one am not seeing that resemblance as strongly as the world clearly felt it between her and Portman. Amy Adams and Isla Fisher You would think their differing eye colors would be a distinguishing enough feature, but apparently their eyes are no match to the resemblance that the rest of their faces share! Amy Adams and Isla Fisher are so frequently confused for each other that Fisher once famously joked about their resemblance in an Allure interview saying, "If 'Shopaholic' is a hit, then it was Isla Fisher in the movie... and if it doesn't work out, it was Amy Adams." Fisher has also admitted to once using a photo of Adams’ in her annual Christmas card that successfully fooled both her family and friends. Nina Dobrev and Victoria Justice These two are actually the first celebrities that came to mind when I started thinking about famous lookalikes! There’s no denying the striking physical similarities between Victoria Justice and Nina Dobrev. Even though The Vampire Diaries largely centers around Elena and her evil doppelgänger (both portrayed by Nina Dobrev), Justice introduced Dobrev as her own real-life doppelgängerr when the Victorious star presented Dobrev with a Teen Choice Award back in the summer of 2015.

Jessica Chastain and Bryce Dallas Howard Perhaps you shouldn’t do a movie together if you don’t want fans to get you mixed up! Jessica Chastain spoke of her time working on The Help with Bryce Dallas Howard and the moment when they finally acknowledged their likeness saying, “We grabbed each other and said, 'Let's look in the mirror. We looked at our faces side by side and we were like, 'Okay, we look alike.'" The two are good sports about frequent mix ups, have shared doppelgänger memes on social media and even admit to going along with a fan’s confusion every now and then. Penelope Cruz and Salma Hayek You know it’s bad when even the official Oscars Instagram account manages to confuse you with your lookalike! That’s exactly what happened to Penelope Cruz and Salma Hayek back in 2014. Whether or not someone got fired over the gaffe remains a mystery, but fortunately the real-life friends were about to laugh about the mix-up. The two are so close with each other in fact that they even have cute nicknames for one another and are often visible in each other’s social media selfies. Katy Perry and Zooey Deschanel Most celebrities are able to laugh about the times they get mistaken for other stars, but Zooey Deschanel actually expressed frustration at the fact that she often gets confused for Katy Perry. Back in 2009, Deschanel spoke with MTV saying, “It’s a little bit annoying, to be totally blunt. The only similarity that we have is that we look a little bit alike.” However, Deschanel sang a very different tune just three years later when she spoke with David Letterman saying, “I was relieved because everyone kept saying ‘this girl looks so much like you and then I met her and I was like, ‘Thank God she’s attractive!’ I was worried she was gonna be an unattractive person.”

Imagine a place that makes you feel energized and at peace at the same time. On a lazy Wednesday afternoon, you simply close your eyes and allow your surroundings to amplify your senses. A destination so magical that a gentle breeze brushing across sun-tanned skin restores you. The soothing sound of the turquoise ocean water breaking on a pristine shoreline brings you peace, and the way the warm Florida sun dances on your skin. This destination is no dream! Nestled amongst a glittering coastline in the Florida Keys, the Amara Cay Resort is a dream destination and the perfect place to visit as travel restrictions lift. We’ve all been in the same boat over the past year and to say it’s been difficult would be a severe understatement. Now that travel has resumed and more hotels and restaurants are increasing their capacity, we can finally plan a vacation – and I know we all need one! Amara Cay Resort is located in the Florida Keys, halfway between Key West and Miami. An ideal destination for all, Islamorada is most famous for its clear and calm waters, towering palm trees lining pristine beaches and aweinspiring sunsets. From the moment I walked into the vibrant lobby at Amara Cay Resort, I was welcomed with the natural beauty of Islamorada while standing amongst a whimsical air plant wall display featuring a variety of lush, tropical greenery mounted onto natural planks from floor to ceiling. Guests are offered the opportunity to swing into their stay adrift one of six suspended wicker rattan chairs roped from the ceiling in the lobby. The scene was perfect for drifting into vacation-mode, especially as the cocoons transported me to that dreamy seaside serenity that I was so terribly missing.

GRILL CHILL

Summer typically calls

for hotdogs, sunscreen and football. But really, it means whatever allows you to unwind. And the best way to achieve unmatched relaxation is by having a good old-fashioned grill out. Grills are the last thing you’d expect to be advanced, but the capabilities on these machines will add so much more to how you define a party. Gone are the days of needing multiple electronic systems in order to entertain guests. With the rise of technology comes the idea of including multiple services in one device. The worst part about being the grill master is missing out on some of the fun. Sure, they’re the provider for the group, but with their back turned and focused on the food, they have the potential of missing an important play or moment amongst friends. This is no

longer an issue with the TV Entertainment Package or the Stereo inclusion. Having these devices embedded in the grill provides more convenient ways of serving and entertaining. Partygoers can gather ‘round and watch while the grill master performs their tasks. Or, while there is a larger screen set up elsewhere, guests can line up to get their snacks and not miss out on the action. The Stereo inclusion has the same effect while eliminating the need for an invasive and bulky speaker. Rather, the music or film can blast from the center of the party and serve as the perfect background noise for a memorable night. Furthermore, accessories rid the need for someone to run back and forth to the kitchen to grab forgotten supplies. Refrigerators, sinks and drawers are convenient and allow the host to relax. More

B Y

extravagant additions include a full bar. With LED lighting to give a hint of exclusivity to a traditionally ordinary activity, a bar will allow for a more intimate experience. Traditionally, someone will have a cooler of beer tossed in the corner somewhere, but with a full bar at your disposal comes experimentation and greater appreciation for simple comforts. Beaches are synonymous to paradise; the perfect getaway, and the only weather fit to fully immerse yourself in a cold drink. Luckily, Florida is in the vicinity of some beautiful coasts. Yet, given the range of towns, the distance can be a bit cumbersome. By having a tiki bar on your grill, you are bringing paradise to your front door. With a television, speaker, bar, sink, refrigerator and seating, you will have guests believing that “It’s

A LY S S A

A S A R O

5-o’clock Somewhere” was inspired by your backyard. This all-inclusive package is a party in and of itself. The grill master simply just has to show up and let the appliance work its magic. Summer is supposed to be easy. The feeling you get shutting off your alarm clock is the same level of satisfaction and triumph that should last the whole season. That sensation comes from having effortless fun. Having a traditional grill out is already a leisurely activity. Yet, built-in rigs that take even more of the effort off the host’s shoulders and allow for a unique and exciting experience for the company you keep is a no-brainer.

Easy Steps to Help Your Dog Drop the

Extra Weight By Megan Miller

As pet owners we want to do anything and everything to make sure our pets live a long and happy life, and health is the number one factor in making sure that this happens. Everyone likes a little fluff when cuddling with your furry friend, but how much fluff is too much? If you find yourself worrying about health risks, here are some tips to help your dog lose weight the safe way. Step 1: Limit calories and fat Good news, changing your dog’s diet isn’t as hard as changing yours. Controlling calories and fat in their food is key to maintaining a healthy weight. When looking for a new diet look for digestible protein to prevent lean muscle loss, lower calories from fat, and high fiber to help with weight loss. It’s a good idea to check with your veterinarian to make sure the one you pick is the right fit. Make sure to ease in the new diet and to feed your dog two to four small, measured portions a day. Step 2: Look for additives While looking for a new puppy diet, try finding some with added benefits. Added L-carnitine helps with their metabolism and building lean muscle mass so they can lose weight the right way. Keep your puppy active by keeping their joints healthy with added glucosamine and chondroitin. Once you find a diet that meets all of your dog’s needs they will have the energy to get up and go outside to play. Step 3: Healthier rewards T-R-E-A-T is most likely what makes those ears perk up and tail wag, and you may be guilty of treating them every time they give you those cute puppy eyes. No worries, you can keep treating your prince or princess, but there

are healthier options. Affection is by far the best reward, but if you still want to spoil them make sure the treats contain the right nutrients. Your pup will still be excited for smaller-sized treats that are low in calories and fat, such as mini-treats or 100% meat treats. Rewards are about the interaction, making them feel good so a change in treats won’t make them any less excited. Make sure to ask your dog to do something such as a trick before giving them a treat so they are rewarded for staying active. Step 4: More play dates While diet is the basis of losing weight and staying healthy, it can’t do all of the work. Keeping your puppy active is the best way to keep them having fun while losing weight. If you have a smaller friend try finding some squeaky toys that they like to run around the house with. If your dog is bigger, find toys that they love running back to you and playing tugof-war with. Toys with treats inside of them are great ways to keep your little one hustling for their health. Stuff the toys with healthy treats or even apples and carrots. Step 5: Get healthy together Your dog isn’t the only one who needs play time. Activity decreases calories and increases muscle. If you find yourself wanting to stay healthy too, develop workouts that you both enjoy so you can motivate each other. Hiking, swimming, jogging, or walking are some activities you can do together. It’s important to always have fun while trying to lose weight and what better way to have fun than bonding with your best friend? 30 minutes of activity a day will give you and your dog something to look forward to.

TAMPA’S DOCTORS OF THE YEAR

TA M PA’ S

+DOCTORS OF THE YEAR 2021

In prefacing this introduction, we’d like to offer an observation, which should be of interest to all. Regardless of medical school class rankings, graduates are all referred to as “DOCTOR.” With this revelation, we should all know that when choosing a physician, one must accept responsibility for adequately researching the doctor he or she is considering. Within our present day society, most licensed to practice medicine are truly miracle workers whether they are completely restructuring someone’s face or saving a life. As much as we realize that every physician is an asset to our

community, we also know that some have established themselves at the top of their profession and are considered special; these are the ‘elite,’ the very best of the best. When seeking perfection, we search for the professional who has made it his or her life goal to excel within a field of specialization through many years of study, dedication and determination, continually challenging themselves to advance their knowledge; these brilliant human beings not only save lives but also enrich their communities with a skill set second to none. Beyond this and in order to stay abreast of the latest, almost daily changing

medical advancements, the ‘elite’ undergo rigorous maintenance, updating through seminars, conferences and advanced studies to keep current with new technology and procedures. In adding our ‘Tampa’s Doctors of the Year’ section with this issue, we present a group of physicians, all of whom are reputable, Board Certified in their areas of expertise, extremely well recognized within our community and chosen by their peers. Our objective is to initiate a continuing dialogue with our readers, with an aim toward personalizing some of the finest doctors available.

Dallas Buchanan, MD & Michelle Buchanan, APRN VIVIFY plastic surgery 2020 was a year of challenges for everyone and VIVIFY plastic surgery was no exception. Even though they were forced to close down the practice for nearly 2 months due to COVID-19, Tampa Bay’s premier plastic surgery was able to weather the storm that came with the pandemic. During the shutdown, the VIVIFY team was able to continue working behind the scenes to plan to provide new and exciting treatment options to patients once the practice was back online. The start of the new year has brought a tremendous influx of patients to the practice with a unique set of goals and needs. VIVIFY plastic surgery is pleased to share some of their expertise. · Breast surgery - including breast augmentation, breast fat grafting, breast lift (mastopexy), breast revision, breast reduction, breast reconstruction, and breast implant removal (explant). · Body surgery - including abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), brachioplasty (arm lift), thighplasty (thigh lift), labiaplasty, liposuction, and mommy makeover. · Facial surgery - including facelift, necklift, browlift, blepharoplasty (eyelid lift), fat grafting, chin augmentation, buccal fat pad removal, and lip lift. · Minimally-invasive - including BodyTite and FaceTite by InMode and MyEllevate (mini-necklift) · Non-Surgical - including chemical peels, micro-needling, platelet rich plasma (PRP), Morpheus8 by InMode, medical-grade skincare, and IV therapy · Injectables - including neurotoxin wrinkle relaxer (Botox, Jeuveau, etc.), fillers (Juvederm, Versa, RHA, etc.), Kybella (fat dissolver), and Sculptra. VIVIFY plastic surgery is the product of power couple Dr. Dallas Buchanan and Michelle Buchanan, APRN. Dr. Buchanan is a seasoned and board-certified plastic surgeon specializing in a wide range of cosmetic surgeries. In addition, he also lends his expertise to providing reconstructive procedures to breast cancer survivors. After graduating medical school, Dr. Buchanan completed eight years of specialized residency training to hone his surgical skills and expertise. He has written and published several textbooks and journals ranging from facial aging, breast surgery, body contouring, and cosmetic surgery. Although 2020 brought hardship to everyone including VIVIFY plastic surgery, there is always a silver lining! Luckily for team VIVIFY, our silver lining was the addition of our new Nurse Practitioner, Michelle Buchanan. After working as an intensive care nurse for over a decade, Michelle graduated with honors from Gonzaga University with her APRN degree. Prior to joining VIVIFY, Michelle had worked as a nurse practitioner in internal medicine and surgical subspecialty. With her background, she helps ensure the safety of our surgical patients by personally meeting with them both before and after surgery to monitor their overall health and review any significant medical history. In addition, she administers a wide array of IV therapy solutions to bolster healing and recovery in the peri-operative period. Michelle’s practice also includes a full complement of non-surgical treatments including customized skin care regimens and injectable treatments. Lauren E. Grandpre, M.D. Emergency Medicine Physician

In a year like no other, while society shielded itself from the invisible enemy that is COVID-19, the doors to the ER never closed. I view my work unequivocally as a calling, and have tended to think of the ER as a sort of “Ellis Island” of medicine. Tired, poor, huddled, or breathless, we are here to help you against all odds. Serving as an ER Doctor during the pandemic pushed me to discover what I thought may be true, but had never truly been tested, which is that I would put my life at risk for even a chance to save yours. The ER family has endured unspeakable losses during this time, and I would like to honor those colleagues who made ultimate sacrifice while we all strained and struggled to hold the line together. This nomination is deserved by and dedicated to each and all of you. My professional life has not always consisted of front line medicine, and the pandemic highlighted a fascinating and unexpected nexus between my present efforts and prior work, including a 6-year tenure at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston as a Research Associate in their Division of Viral Pathogenesis. My work was focused on vaccine development and clinical trials, and it was surreal to learn that my former efforts had incrementally contributed to the development and testing of a COVID-19 vaccine. I could only hope back then that the seeds planted at the bench might grow to support a larger public health initiative. Pictured within this profile is a masked version of myself in the moments following receipt of my first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. In this watershed moment, I was overcome with sheer joy as I became armed with this priceless tool in the fight to continue to care for others. I am a doctor in title, but as I am sure many providers do, view myself as one’s advocate and guide to a place of healing and better health. Should we encounter one another in the ER one day, I pledge to serve you with purpose, compassion, and kindness, no matter how grave the challenge or dark the hour. The ER is fast-paced and chaotic at times, but I will find a way to seize the moment and opportunity to comfort you. It is an honor and a privilege to work as a Board Certified Emergency Medicine Physician in service to my local community, including multiple area hospitals throughout Pinellas County, and also as a traveling physician to support underserved community hospitals in nearby states. To be able to live and work in the Tampa Bay Area is a gift. I delight in being surrounded by such vast natural beauty, which inspires a sense of adventure and curiosity in all of my undertakings, including humanitarian volunteering, playing Ultimate Frisbee, and root, root, rooting for the home teams as a true sports fanatic here in “Champa Bay”. Richard Kim, MD | Jason Denbo, MD | Mintallah Haider, MD | Daniel Anaya, MD The Hepatobiliary Section is part of the Department of Gastrointestinal Oncology at Moffitt Cancer Center and treats the highest volume of patients in the Southeast region of the United States, providing world-class care with results that consistently surpass national benchmarks. The Hepatobiliary Section is a multidisciplinary team focused on the prevention and treatment of patients with tumors of the liver (including metastases), gallbladder and bile ducts. The section is led by Dr. Daniel Anaya – Senior Member and Chief of Gastrointestinal Surgery - and is composed of over 20 specialized physicians providing services in the fields of surgical oncology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, interventional radiology, pathology, with advanced practice providers, nurses and ancillary staff supporting clinical, research and educational activities within the section. Care delivered through the hepatobiliary team defines true patient-centered care. The section provides patients easy access to Moffitt geared to expedite treatment initiation. Before a consultation, patients are discussed at the weekly section’s Tumor Board, a recognized model of multidisciplinary cancer care. This model allows the entire team to review and

discuss critical information together, including imaging, biopsy results and molecular/ genetic features of each tumor, providing a true personalized treatment recommendation tailored to each individual patient, even before visiting the clinic. During the first clinic encounter, treatment options are presented and adjusted to each patient’s specific needs, and quickly initiated. Each subspecialty also leads focused initiatives geared to advance the field by developing innovative treatments and approaches, in many cases pioneered and led for the first time at Moffitt. Dr. Richard Kim - Senior Member and Chief of Gastrointestinal Medical Oncology - leads treatments using systemic therapies, including chemotherapy and immunotherapy. He also leads efforts related to clinical trials for patients with hepatobiliary tumors – providing novel treatment options at every stage of the cancer journey. The surgical team performs the highest volume of complex liver operations in the region using a systematic approach for every procedure, including unique imaging modalities and comprehensive surgical planning, and each operation is tailored to the individual patient. Dr. Jason Denbo - Assistant Member and Surgical Oncologist - leads the Robotic Liver Program, where each patient’s

case is reviewed and considered for a robotic operation, when meeting predefined standards. Other members in the section are also critical and lead their corresponding fields making all types of liver-directed therapies (interventional radiology) and novel radiation oncology techniques, uniquely available to patients at Moffitt. In support of the Moffitt vision to transform cancer care locally and beyond, the section holds several community outreach initiatives. As the section’s Director of Outreach and Education, Dr. Mintallah Haider – Assistant Member and Medical Oncologist – develops programs to support patients and colleagues in providing care to all patients with liver cancers. The section is actively involved in educating future generations through mentorship of trainees and active participation in fellowship programs offered through Moffitt and the University of South Florida. As a fully integrated multidisciplinary team within Moffitt Cancer Center– the only NCI designated comprehensive cancer center in Florida - the section goals are aligned with the institution’s mission to prevent and cure cancer. Dorota Matusewicz, MD Your Private Physician Dorota Matusewicz, MD, known to her patients as Dr. M., is Board-Certified in Internal and Functional Medicine. In 2002, she pioneered Tampa Bay’s first concierge medical practice, Your Private Physician. Dr. M obtained her MD from the University of Chicago, completed her internship at the Yale New Haven Medical Center, and concluded her residency among the country’s Top 4 hospitals: New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Hospital for Special Surgery. Dr. Matusewicz has expanded her medical knowledge beyond standard medical approaches. Early in her career, Dr. M’s son Alexander developed debilitating and recurrent oral ulcers. After multiple treatment failures, she took the treatment into her own hands with a Functional Medicine approach, focusing on treating the root cause of the disease. By correcting her son’s underlying nutritional and hormonal deficiencies, subsequently strengthening his immune system, Alexander’s ulcers resolved permanently, to both her colleagues’ and personal amazement. This was a turning point in her treatment approach with her patients.

Dr. Matusewicz broadened her training at the Institute for Functional Medicine. Now, her assessment is systems biology-based, focusing on the root cause of medical conditions, rather than symptom treatment. Her holistic approach identifies the patient’s unique biochemistry, genetics, hormonal status, nutrition, food sensitivities, along with related environmental factors and inflammation. This practical approach to medicine gives her the deeper understanding of why patients develop their ailments. By understanding their “uniqueness” and preferences, Dr. M can create customized medical plans to patients' individual needs. By focusing on what makes a patient unique, Dr.M finds the “Why.” She then focuses on improving overall wellbeing and the prevention of ailments. Dr.M firmly believes managing the full combination of factors, addressing gastrointestinal health, nutrition, hormones, sleep, physical fitness, stress, and anxiety, is crucial to achieving optimal health. Dr. Matusewicz emphasizes that this Functional Medicine approach is NOT an alternative medicine, but the new era of medical care, focusing on creating health. Since the inception Cleveland Clinic’s Center for Functional Medicine, Dr. M has followed world leaders in the field, like Dr. Hyman, Dr. Ornish, and Dr. Gundry, continuously learning from evidence based medical research. Dr. M. welcomes patients seeking the highest caliber of truly customized personal medical care. To her patients, she is available 24/7. Dr. Matusewicz offers patients “peace of mind” in their health journeys. Her message is clear: “Dare to truly look at your health from the inside out, and to make a real change. Do not settle for another diagnosis and prescription. Understand “Why?” After all, your health is your wellbeing; nothing is more important.”

Dr. Miguel Mazariegos Family Medicine

When Dr. Mazariegos sees a patient, he is treating the whole person — mind, body, and spirit. This philosophy comes from his Catholic faith and guides him every day in his practice. When a patient comes to his office, they know they are welcome. He believes that developing an ongoing rapport with patients is critical to building relationships of trust, and this shows his patients they are understood, respected, and important to him. His mission is to provide a secure environment where his patients feel respected and understood while delivering the best medical care his patients deserve.

Whether his patient is in the best of health, is clinically challenging, or is nearing the end of life, his priority remains the same: to respect, to treat, and to heal. What is important to him is that at the end of the day, he has done his best for every patient that walked through his doors. He earned the nomination as one of Tampa’s Doctors of the Year because of this steadfast dedication to his patients. In addition to serving his patients, Dr. Mazariegos also values getting to know them as people. Because of his experience of moving to the U.S. from Guatemala, he enjoys learning, understanding, and blending with the diverse population he serves. He is delighted by the storytelling that each patient has to share about their culture. He developed as a leader in the Hispanic community because of his Guatemalan heritage and ability to connect with the diverse Hispanic backgrounds in Hillsborough County. Outside of his career, Dr. Mazariegos is a proud father of three young professionals who are serving the Hillsborough County community through dentistry, education, and IT. One of his favorite hobbies is soccer. He has played in the Brandon Adult Soccer League for over 20 years — rain or shine you will find him on the field. Another favorite hobby of his is gardening, and his favorite way to spend time on the weekends is in the garden with his wife, Sandy. Over the years, his patients have brought him new plants to add to his colorful garden. You can even ask Dr. Mazariegos about his favorite tree he is tending to in his spare time. Through building his family practice with Sandy, he has grown to love Hillsborough County and has truly planted his roots. He looks forward to continuing to serve residents, creating a healthier community.

Photo by Works of Wonder Photography

Dr. Miguel Mazariegos is a family practice physician who has dedicated his career to serving patients in the eastern Hillsborough County community for 23 years. He and his wife, Sandy, founded Family Practice Center of Brandon in 1998, but his career began much earlier. Dr. Mazariegos was born in Guatemala, Central America, and he spent his childhood with his parents and 3 brothers in a town called Quetzaltenango where he learned English at school. Dr. Mazariegos would eventually graduate from the Universidad De San Carlos, the oldest medical school in Guatemala. Then, he completed an Obstetrics and Gynecology program at Hospital General San Juan de Dios. From there, he moved to Chicago where he completed a residency program in family medicine at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, earning the role of Chief of Residents in his final year. During his residency, it became meaningful for him to connect with patients of different nationalities, ethnic backgrounds, and all ages. His passion for medicine came from growing up in a country with limited health services and wanting to learn and serve the community. He found his calling to serve as a family practice physician through his upbringing and his training.

Vanessa L. Prowler, MD, FACS Breast Surgical Oncology Dr. Vanessa Prowler is a Breast Surgical Oncologist, a surgeon who specializes in the treatment of breast cancer and benign breast diseases. She graduated from Medical School at the Florida State University College of Medicine in 2010. She completed her General Surgery residency at the University of South Florida, Morsani College of Medicine. She completed her Breast Surgery Fellowship at Mount Sinai Beth Israel in New York City. Dr. Prowler currently sees patients at the Hollis Cancer Center in Lakeland, FL, a nationally recognized program and is accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC).

Photo by Works of Wonder Photography

Breast cancer continues to be the leading cancer diagnosed in women, with over 300,00 new cases annually. Due to advances in treatment in the past 30 years, death rates have dropped by 40%, leading to almost 4 million breast cancer survivors in the United States. Unfortunately, the treatments have collateral damage and can result in life-long side effects. Dr. Prowler’s expertise and passion is to employ the latest research findings, most advanced techniques, and cutting-edge technologies to provide the best possible outcomes while minimizing these side effects. She uses Savi scout for localization instead of the traditional wire, which is more convenient for patients on the day of surgery, reduces the amount of tissue removed, and is more accurate. She has published her work on this technology. Additionally, she was one of the first surgeon in central Florida to perform lymphovenous bypass during axillary lymph node dissection to reduce the incidence of lymphedema, a highly debilitating condition. Women who undergo surgery for breast cancer are often reminded of their diagnosis daily in the mirror by a visible scar. Because Dr. Prowler understands the emotional turmoil of this constant reminder, she utilizes the Hidden Scar technique and other advanced oncoplastic procedures to restore and even enhance the cosmetic outcome following surgery in the breast. She received additional training in oncoplastic breast surgery during Fellowship and continues to learn new techniques from nationally recognized surgeons. Dr. Prowler’s goal is to remove the breast disease but make it look as though the patient never had surgery, in an effort to rapidly restore quality of life in women. She has a specialized interest in cancer genetics, which has advanced dramatically over the last few years. Discoveries have led to a greater understanding of who and why certain people develop cancer, which can result in earlier detection and prevention. Dr. Prowler has received advanced training in Cancer Genetics and Cancer Risk Assessment from the City of Hope. Tampa is Dr. Prowler’s forever home, and when she is not working, she enjoys working out at the gym, spending time with her family, and boating. She recognizes the important of daily physical exercise for cognitive health, stamina, and overall longevity, both as a female surgeon and someone that has dedicated her life to helping her patients be their best selves.

OF THE YEAR

Dr. Robert T. Wilkins

Photo by Works of Wonder Photography

SOHO MD Dr. Robert Wilkins joined Lifestance Health in May of 2020 at a time when the demands on the mental healthcare system were surging. Through telemedicine, Dr. Wilkins has been able to reach patients throughout the state of Florida on this platform. This mode of health care delivery has proven to be invaluable, allowing patients to be seen conveniently and with less anxiety. It enables the provider to meet patients where they are, and without, in his experience, losing any effectiveness in sensitive empathic doctor/patient communication. He graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Wilkins later completed his residency at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. He became Associate Professor of Psychiatry while taking a position at the Denver VA Medical Center. He was Medical Director of the Denver Specialized Inpatient PTSD Unit. Dr. Wilkins relocated to Florida in 2005 to be closer to his son, where he accepted a position in the Bay Pines VA Medical System.

After 29 years of serving United States veterans, Dr. Wilkins took a position in private practice, delivering his expertise through telemedicine to the greater community. He has special expertise in treating victims of trauma-those who have incurred injury to the self in their development or through trauma in later life. He also excels in treating mood and anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, ADHD and substance abuse. Patients find him to be warm, empathic, an attentive listener and to be easily approachable. He emphasizes treating the whole person, while paying particular attention to the importance of the therapeutic relationship in the healing process. He is masterful in the use of psychotropic medications, relying on evidenced-based medicine and the latest developments in psychopharmacology. Dr. Wilkins and his wife reside in historic Hyde Park, and he is pleased to welcome new patients through the Lifestance website.
