How to experience one of the world’s most celebrated resort destinations

Palm Beach may only be a two and a half hour drive from Central Florida, but the relaxation, adventure and beach-side thrills offered up will leave you feeling miles away from everything you thought a Florida vacation could be. I discovered this for myself over the course of a four-day excursion that gave me a brief yet eye-opening look at all that the magical destination of Palm Beach, Florida has to offer its millions of annual visitors. The destination presents no shortage of award-winning hotels to call home during your stay, and I had the rare opportunity to experience not just one, but two of these fabulous options. The adventure began at Boca Raton’s Premier Waterfront Property, the Waterstone Resort & Marina. My accommodations at the luxurious Four-Diamond boutique hotel featured a private balcony with breathtaking water views that truly set the mood for what was to come for myself and my companions. The elegant, intimate hotel also boasts exquisite dining options with two fabulous restaurants conveniently located on property.

Patrons of Boca Landing Restaurant get to enjoy the area’s only on-the-water dining experience with cozy seating

overlooking Lake Boca and the beautiful Intracoastal Waterway. This signature dining experience is certainly a must while staying at the property, but for my companions and I, we found that the Waterstone Rum Bar & Grill offered the easy-going atmosphere we sought after and this was where we happily spent our first evening at the property. The simple menu maintained a tasty variety of classic grilled food and refreshing specialty drinks with just the right amount of authentic Boca Flair, such as my succulent entree of Pan Seared Wild Black Grouper. Sipping post-dinner cocktails surrounded by laughter, delicious aromas, and the company of new friends was all it took for me to see why the Waterstone Resort & Marina has been called the “Ultimate South Florida Retreat” and this was only my first evening in Palm Beach. To say we started off strong is an understatement and the next day also did not disappoint. The following morning kicked off as all vacations should in my humble opinion… with a relaxing, therapeutic spa treatment at the Boca Raton Resort & Club. The historic, private resort is a sight to behold, and guests could literally spend an entire week at the magnificent property

without ever dining at the same restaurant or sleeping in the same accommodations. It was an experience of pure luxury from the moment we drove through the grand entrance, and in true Waldorf Astoria fashion, the spa experience was equally exceptional. Inspired by Spain’s Alhambra Palace, the award-winning Spa is truly a piece of art featuring everything from a 10,000 square foot Spa Garden to a private Spa Pool with underwater music. A lengthy Spa menu offered an abundance of treatments, but a destination as one-of-a-kind as Palm Beach calls for something a little more unique than your typical massage, and that was exactly what I experienced during my signature ritual bath treatment. The highlight of the six step process was a luxurious personal soaking tub with aromatic bath salts, body scrub, and refreshing citrus splash that created a unique and memorable experience of stress-releasing relaxation and indulgence. Throughout my stay in Palm Beach, I was struck time and time again by the pure beauty and sheer splendor of the pristine destination, and there’s only so much you can see from a car so my companions and I opted for a more freeing

method of transportation in order to see and experience a different side of the area. Island Living Tours provides entertaining, yet educational bicycle tours of Palm Beach that showcase the high-society life of the Island from past to present. Led by Leslie Diver, our scenic tour highlighted the area’s world-class architecture, colorful history and its residents both famous and infamous. Leslie’s love and passion for the city was evident at every stop as fascinating facts, stories and city secrets effortlessly flowed out of her. The relaxing tour also provided us with an exceptional, up-close-and-personal view of Palm Beach that easily became my favorite experience of the entire weekend.

No matter how many days you stay in Palm Beach, you’ll always be longing for one more, and that’s just part of the magic that has transformed Palm Beach into one of the world’s most celebrated resort destinations.

In continuing the trend of relaxation and authentic South Florida experiences, it was only fitting that the last half of our stay in Palm Beach be spent at the AAA Four Diamond award-winning Hilton West Palm Beach. The casual elegance of the hotel captures the lively atmosphere of the surrounding area, and its prime location means guests can enjoy premiere Palm Beach shopping right across the street. From the first moment we stepped inside, I immediately knew I was going to have a difficult time saying goodbye to the stunning property once my time in Palm Beach had come to an end. With floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking city and pool views, the temptation to leave my spacious accommodations and explore the area was strong. As countless others can attest to, it’s simply impossible to not get caught up in the buzz and excitement of all that the Hilton West Palm Beach has to offer on its premises and just a few steps away. Both locals and tourists alike show up to the property daily to take advantage of every luxurious experience from sunbathing and sipping tropical cocktails by the zero entry resortstyle pool to enjoying an exceptional dinner at the property’s signature restaurant, Galley. Galley is where I can confidently say I had my favorite dining experience in all

of Palm Beach, and quite frankly, it stands to rival many restaurants that exists even beyond this destination. Galley staff members Jason and Aaron took such great care of my companions and I that I would’ve returned for dinner every night, if not for a greater desire to experience all the many other must-have dining options located throughout the Palm Beach area. Fortunately, our dinner at Galley took place on a Friday evening, which meant we had the pleasure of kicking off our weekend with Galley’s live music entertainment in addition to enjoying the craft cocktails and chef-driven creations that are available every day of the week. All evening long we feasted on creative, uniquely crafted dishes such as wood-fired master grilled skirt steak and authentic margarita pies straight from the Galley pizza oven. Naturally we washed it all down with refreshing beverages from the experiential mixology bar, which boasted drinks infused

with fruit flavors, local brews and twists on classic cocktails such as a Smoked Old Fashioned masterfully presented in a smoking globe. No matter how many days you stay in Palm Beach, you’ll always be longing for one more, and that’s just part of the magic that has transformed Palm Beach into one of the world’s most celebrated resort destinations. From a peace-inducing morning yoga session outside of Grandview Public Market to exploring the unique culinary and cultural experiences located within, each attraction in Palm Beach offers a multitude of ways to enjoy and experience all it has to offer. Foodies seeking a six course plated wine dinner by nationally recognized Master Chefs will enjoy the farm-to-table offerings of Swank Specialty Produce’s Master Chef dinners. The sheer elegance of RH Rooftop Restaurant located across from Hilton West Palm Beach

will provide you with a timelessly classic dining experience, while both Gary Rack’s Farmhouse Kitchen and Batch New Southern Kitchen & Tap feature sustainably sourced and prepared cuisine that’s farm-to-table fresh. Whatever you desire from your next beachfront vacation, you will find all of it and more by discovering The Palm Beaches. BEST FRIENDS

Summer Survival Guide By Megan Miller

We all love spending summer days soaking up all the sun we can.

Just like us, there are dangers to dogs being outdoors in the heat, and leaving your best furry friend indoors just isn’t an option on a beautiful day. Here are some ways to keep your pup safe and ready to tackle the sunshine.

Pup Protection Gear 1. Cool Wear Cooling technologies activate in stylish puppy pieces by just soaking them in cool water. With vests, bandanas, and even collars you’re sure to find the perfect cooling accessory for your little one. Dip, wring out, and put it on!

Good2Go Cooling Dog Bandana, $5, Available at Petco

Safety Tips Make sure to never leave your pup in an unattended vehicle. The temperature in your parked car can climb to over 40 degrees higher than the outside temperature. Even with the windows rolled down your dog can still overheat. The risks associated with leaving your dog in a parked car aren’t worth it. Unless stores are pet friendly, it’s best to leave your dog at home while running errands. They’ll be happily waiting for you back at home basking in the cool AC. Paw patrol! Whether your pup’s adorable paws are pink, spotted, or black, they need to be protected from hot surfaces. If you can’t walk barefoot without saying, “Ow,” neither can your little one. Avoid asphalt and bare surfaces as much as possible. Try to choose a shady or grassy path so you can both stay safe and cool in the sun rays. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Since dogs sweat minimally, their way of cooling down is panting. If you see a panting tongue, be sure to help out! Packing a portable bowl and water bottle is the key to keeping your little player safe. The sun can wear you and your pup both down, so make sure you both re-energize with water breaks.

2. Dog Booties Booties in the summer may come in handy more than you would think. Keeping those cute paws from burning has never been so fashionable. Dog booties are the perfect protection gear for your pup so they can adventure even in the hottest dog parks.

Pawz Waterproof Dog Boots, 12 count, $9.99, Available at Chewy

3. Sunscreen Put your war paint on! It’s very important to sunscreen your dogs, but it’s also very important to use the right one. Look for the sunscreens that are specifically intended for dogs. They should not contain zinc oxide or paraaminobenzoic acid. Make sure you apply it to your little one 20 minutes before going out so it soaks in, and don’t forget to reapply, especially after a swim!

Well & Good Sun Protection Dog Wipes, $5.93, Available at Petco

MIDTOWN TAMPA B Y

Midtown Tampa is up and coming in

business, hospitality and transportation. A highly ranked city by the likes of Forbes Magazine and Best Cities, Tampa is taking advantage of its location and allowing their retail and services to flourish for the sake of exclusivity and opportunity. Located just three miles from the airport, it is a desirable stop for travelers. Yet the intention of the task is to become more than a pitstop on a more desirous journey. Midtown Tampa is looking to redefine growth. Currently under construction, recent projects will result in apartment complexes, hotels and office buildings. This mixed-use conglomerate is the first of its kind in a city like Tampa and the work will yield an increase in population, workforce and capital gain. This multi-million dollar undertaking is perfectly timed to be completed before hosting the Super Bowl in 2021. Bridging the gap between Downtown and Westshore, this will be an in-the-middle location that will meet the standards of both acclaimed locations. Exciting inclusions will include the areas first True Food Kitchen which is a health-based restaurant sponsored by Oprah Winfrey that integrates modern and traditional medicinal approaches to meals. the scheme, taking up 48,000 square feet. A theme of the services provided appears to be the wellbeing of the residents. Midtown Tampa’s Central Park is no exception as it will host events for community engagement such as yoga and festivals. Inclusivity is another prime factor in the design as dog parks and trails will allow fitness in many forms to take place as well as relaxation. With the introduction of dual-branded hotels, guests will be able to sit atop rooftops and lounge by poolsides in what can only be described as the height of luxury. With breathtaking views of the city and shores, as well as unlimited space for outdoor gyms and events, visitors will be in the heart of the city with access to all it has to offer. Downtown plans transcend an ordinary shopping district and instead has branded itself as a set of experiences. What has been described by the CEO of The Bromley Companies as “magnetic”, Midtown Tampa is about to become the hottest new destination district for those looking to embody elevated living. With retail experiences that are new to the area as well as distinguishable ventures, change is coming, and you’re going to want to be a part of it.

GRILL CHILL B Y

Summer typically calls

for hotdogs, sunscreen and football. But really, it means whatever allows you to unwind. And the best way to achieve unmatched relaxation is by having a good old-fashioned grill out. Grills are the last thing you’d expect to be advanced, but the capabilities on these machines will add so much more to how you define a party. Gone are the days of needing multiple electronic systems in order to entertain guests. With the rise of technology comes the idea of including multiple services in one device. The worst part about being the grill master is missing out on some of the fun. Sure, they’re the provider for the group, but with their back’s turned and focused on the food, they have the potential of missing an important play or moment amongst friends. This is no

longer an issue with the TV Entertainment Package or the Stereo inclusion. Having these devices embedded in the grill provides more convenient ways of serving and entertaining. Partygoers can gather ‘round and watch while the grill master performs their tasks. Or, while there is a larger screen set up elsewhere, guests can line up to get their snacks and not miss out on the action. The Stereo inclusion has the same effect while eliminating the need for an invasive and bulky speaker. Rather, the music or film can blast from the center of the party and serve as the perfect background noise for a memorable night. Furthermore, accessories rid the need for someone to run back and forth to the kitchen to grab forgotten supplies. Refrigerators, sinks and drawers are convenient and allow the host to relax. More

extravagant additions include a full bar. With LED lighting to give a hint of exclusivity to a traditionally ordinary activity, a bar will allow for a more intimate experience. Traditionally, someone will have a cooler of beer tossed in the corner somewhere, but with a full bar at your disposal comes experimentation and greater appreciation for simple comforts. Beaches are synonymous to paradise; the perfect getaway, and the only weather fit to fully immerse yourself in a cold drink. Luckily, Florida is in the vicinity of some beautiful coasts. Yet, given the range of towns, the distance can be a bit cumbersome. By having a tiki bar on your grill, you are bringing paradise to your front door. With a television, speaker, bar, sink, refrigerator and seating, you will have guests believing that “It’s

A LY S S A

A S A R O

5-o’clock Somewhere” was inspired by your backyard. This all-inclusive package is a party in and of itself. The grill master simply just has to show up and let the appliance work its magic. Summer is supposed to be easy. The feeling you get shutting off your alarm clock is the same level of satisfaction and triumph that should last the whole season. That sensation comes from having effortless fun. Having a traditional grill out is already a leisurely activity. Yet, built-in rigs that take even more of the effort off the host’s shoulders and allows for a unique and exciting experience for the company you keep is a no-brainer.

BUSINESS ON TOP Party down under You don’t need to wear a button-down if you have a suit, blazer, or jacket. Times are changing in the fashion world. Just because you’re wearing a suit doesn’t mean you have to dress up...think more “dress down”. And we promise you’ll still look dressed up. Going for a blazer and chinos instead of a suit, or wearing sneakers instead of dress shoes, are both good ways to turn down the formality. And swapping out your button-down shirt and tie with t-shirts for the summer, or a casual button-down like a denim shirt, also works.

SHAWN MENDES the tour by Courtney Caggiano 58

| STYLETOME.COM

DON’T MISS THE BEAT

Shawn Mendes, the charming Canadian singer-songwriter that has won the hearts of millions, is returning to Florida with his self-titled run of shows featuring special guest Alessia Cara. Shawn Mendes: The Tour comes to Tampa on July 27 and continues in Orlando on July 30.

The album’s lead single, “In My Blood,” echoes the inner strength that the singer has developed over the past few years of greeting a music career in the modern age with courage and grace. In the song, Mendes openly declares, “Sometimes I feel like giving up, but I just can’t / it isn’t in my blood.”

Mendes has ventured a long way from his early years of learning to play guitar by watching YouTube videos and then posting soon-to-go-viral cover songs on the online platform. After captivating viewers with his charismatic style and a voice that reaches well beyond his years, Mendes released his first single, “Life of the Party,” in 2014, becoming the youngest artist to debut in the top 20 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

But anxiety is nothing new for Mendes, yet it has become a growing hardship that the musician has now needed to conquer in the spotlight. Since the release of this groundbreaking album, Mendes has opened up about his difficult struggles with anxiety disorder. He has stated that he very much grapples with the fear of how he is perceived in the media. Mendes has also shared that he finds much needed respite by meditating and journaling his honest feelings—which have become one of Mendes’ favorite ways to fashion ideas for songs. While admitting his fears and facing them head-on through his music certainly wasn’t easy, Mendes has discovered how much his truthful words have resonated with people all over the world.

At the age of twenty, Mendes is hitting the road with the same fire that helped ignite a critically-acclaimed international career on the heels of his third studio album, 2018’s Shawn Mendes. This latest album showcases a new sense of refined maturity as Mendes has had to learn to overcome recent challenges that a young star often faces on a quick climb to fame. With a more refined sensibility to his musicality and newfound lyrical depth that only comes through experience, Shawn Mendes shows an artist that is both more vulnerable and braver than ever. This album stands as a testament to the incredible growth and stability Mendes has championed as his skyrocketing appeal has changed more than just the size of his live audiences. With 44.7 million Instagram followers and surpassing 1 billion global streams on Apple Music, Mendes has become the pop sensation of the digital generation, as countless fans follow his every move on the internet’s ever-growing stage.

This album stands as a testament to the incredible growth and stability Mendes has championed as his skyrocketing appeal has changed more than just the size of his live audiences.

Along with his more empowering songs, Shawn Mendes is known for filling his live shows with an excess of excitement, spirit, and passion that show off Mendes’ incandescent happiness to be doing what he loves to do most. With unforgettable tracks like “Lost in Japan” from his third album and earlier favorites such as “Stitches,” “Treat You Better,” “Mercy,” and “There’s Nothing Holding Me Back,” Shawn Mendes: The Tour is the musical event of the year that fans will not want to miss.

CELEBRITY SOUP

AMERICA’S RICHEST

SELF-MADE WOMEN UNDER

40

Forbes has released their newly updated list of America’s richest self-made women under 40, and we’ve read through the entire article for this month’s Celebrity Soup! From singers and athletes to investors and entrepreneurs, you will be amazed to learn just how much cash some of these wealthy ladies are swimming in. Here are six celebs we hand selected from the list in order to take a deeper look into how they managed to acquire such an extreme abundance of wealth and fame.

TAYLOR SWIFT, 29

Net Worth: $360 million Taylor Swift was barely an adult when she scored her first No. 1 album at the tender age of 18. Released in 2008, Fearless launched Swift’s career which has since seen over a decade of best-selling albums and worldwide tours that now allows her to boast a net worth of $360 million. Swift first made Forbes’ list in 2016 with a fortune of $250 million and at just 26 years old, she was the youngest member by far and one of only four women under 40. However, her claim to fame as the youngest member on the list has since been dethroned by cosmetics queen, Kylie Jenner.

KYLIE JENNER, 21

Net Worth: $1 billion It’s pretty safe to say that Kylie Jenner is having a great 2019! In March, the youngest member of the Kardashian klan also became the world’s youngest self-made billionaire...ever! Her three-year-old beauty brand, Kylie Cosmetics, is worth at least $900 million by Forbes’ estimate and Kylie retains 100% ownership of the mega-successful company. The makeup mogul is America’s only female self-made billionaire under the age of 40, but with her family’s fame there are some who naturally question Forbes’ decision to call her self-made. By Forbes’ own definition, the term self-made describes anyone who did not inherit his or her fortune, so nepotism and family fame aside—Kylie Jenner remains on the list!

RIHANNA, 31

Net Worth: $600 million New to Forbes’ list is business woman, makeup guru and the newly crowned richest female musician in the world—Rihanna! Despite boasting the title as richest female musician, you may be surprised to know that the majority of Rhianna’s fortune actually comes from her cosmetics brand, Fenty Beauty, and her partnership with LVMH which helped her make history as the first black woman to run a major fashion house in Paris. Together, these business ventures have netted Rhianna an estimated $570 million dollars alone with the rest of her assets bringing her total up to a whopping $600 million. Given the fact that she just launched a Fenty Fashion line, I think we can safely say that we’ll see her back on the list next year!

CELEBRITY SOUP

EXPLORING FORBES’ LIST OF THE NATION’S WEALTHIEST LADIES B Y

R I E S A

P A S C A L

BEYONCÉ KNOWLES-CARTER, 37 Net Worth: $400 million

Though she first rose to face as the lead singer of Destiny’s Child, her fame and fortune has since skyrocketed to historic heights and much like Rihanna, she also shows no signs of slowing down! Of course we’re talking about the one and only Queen Bey herself, Beyoncé Knowles who currently sits on a net worth of $400 million. In just the past year alone, the superstar became the first black woman to headline Coachella and now boasts the most-streamed Coachella video on YouTube ever. In April 2019, the pop star milked a little more cash out of her performance by releasing Homecoming, a live album and Netflix special about the show. That same month, Beyoncé also announced a new partnership with Adidas to relaunch her activewear line Ivy Park and if you’re tired of hearing her name, then you better stay away from the cinema’s this summer because she also voices Nala in Disney’s highly anticipated remake of The Lion King. Is there anything she doesn’t do?

SERENA WILLIAMS, 37

Net Worth: $225 million 23-time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams is a newcomer to the list and actually made history as the first athlete to make Forbes’ list of richest self-made women under 40. With an estimated fortune of $225 million, Williams is much more than just a champion tennis player though. From fashion to venture capital, she has built her massive fortune through a diverse variety of business avenues that you may be surprised to learn about! Over the past five years alone she has invested in 34 startups through Serena Ventures which targets companies founded by women and minorities. In addition to owning stakes in the Miami Dolphins and mixed martial arts promoter UFC, Williams also owns S by Serena, a self-funded and direct-to-consumer clothing line which officially launched in 2018.

KIM KARDASHIAN WEST, 38 Net Worth: $360 million

With some of the most-followed social media pages in the world, Kim Kardashian West is a name that needs no introduction. Her estimated net worth is a not-too-shabby $360 million and much of that fortune is thanks to the success of her two year-old cosmetics company KKW Beauty—which raked in over $100 million in revenue in 2018 alone. Combined with endorsement deals, mobile games, emojis and Keeping Up with the Kardashians earnings, we fully expect to see this social media queen continue to climb the list. These days Kim is following in the footsteps of her famous father and apprenticing to be a lawyer. Though she is forgoing law school, she is passionate about criminal justice reform and plans to take the bar in 2022.

INTERMITTENT

FASTING B Y

If you’re wondering why your

diet isn’t working like you thought it would, maybe you should look into your pattern of eating. Intermittent fasting, the oldest dietary regulation, is recently the world’s most popular health trend. People are seeing outstanding results in weight loss, health improvement, and simplifying their lifestyle. WHAT IS IT? Intermittent fasting is a controlled schedule of consuming meals so you attain the maximum health benefits from your intake. It doesn’t control which foods you eat, but rather when you should eat them. Ultimately, an eating pattern. With various methods, common intermittent fasting cycles contain 16-hour fasts or 24-hour fasts, two times per week. WHY? Diets’ harsh change on your body can take a toll on your energy level. It can be draining when you force such a strict food restriction. A regulated eating pattern containing all of the nutrients your body loves is easier on your body. It’s a great method to get lean while maintaining your muscle mass, without cutting your calories and nutrients. Cutting your calories and carbohydrates is not the goal

62

| STYLETOME.COM

of intermittent fasting. In fact, you want to try to keep your calorie intake the same by eating bigger meals. The behavior change isn’t a huge change in lifestyle, as diets are. Simplicity helps reduce worrying about cooking or purchasing three meals a day, or eating six snacks a day. This can consume your thoughts and make your mind concentrate on food, which isn’t healthy. Intermittent fasting is something so simple, yet can create immense results. METHODS • The 16/8: Also known as the Leangains protocol, you skip breakfast then restrict your daily eating period to 8 hours. Then, you fast for 16 hours in between. This is the most popular method. • Eat-Stop-Eat: You fast for 24 hours once or twice a week. • The 5:2 diet: For two nonconsecutive days of the week, you consumer 500-600 calories, then continue to eat normally the other five days. HOW DOES IT WORK? When your body is digesting and absorbing food, it is in the fed state. This digestion state lasts for three to five hours after consumption. While in the fed state, it’s difficult

M E G A N

M I L L E R

for your body to burn fat due to high insulin levels. After, your body enters the post-absorptive state, which is when your body isn’t processing food. This lasts 8 to 12 hours after your last consumption, starting the fasted state. The fasted state is the time when it’s easier for your body to burn fat. Your Human Growth Hormone (HGH) levels raise while fasting, which has benefits of fat loss and muscle gain. Fasting forces your body to a fat burning state that you can’t achieve on a normal eating schedule. Going on an eating pattern is not something everyone needs to do. Overall, getting nutrients, exercising, and getting plentiful sleep should be your focus. Everyone’s body works differently, and you have to find out what works best for you. As intermittent fasting is a recent trend, research is still in its early stage. However, many studies have been conducted, and it’s looking very positive when followed safely. The benefits already seen in intermittent fasting include everything leading to a better, healthy lifestyle. If you haven’t found a successful method of attaining this, intermittent fasting may be the answer! Always consult with your physician before starting an new diet.

TAMPA’S DOCTORS OF THE YEAR

TA M PA’ S

+DOCTORS

OF THE YEAR

In prefacing this introduction, we’d like to offer an observation, which should be of interest to all. Regardless of medical school class rankings, graduates are all referred to as “DOCTOR.” With this revelation, we should all know that when choosing a physician, one must accept responsibility for adequately researching the doctor he or she is considering. Within our present day society, most licensed to practice medicine are truly miracle workers whether they are completely restructuring someone’s face or saving a life. As much as we realize that every physician is an asset to our

community, we also know that some have established themselves at the top of their profession and are considered special; these are the ‘elite,’ the very best of the best. When seeking perfection, we search for the professional who has made it his or her life goal to excel within a field of specialization through many years of study, dedication and determination, continually challenging themselves to advance their knowledge; these brilliant human beings not only save lives but also enrich their communities with a skill set second to none. Beyond this and in order to stay abreast of the latest, almost daily changing

medical advancements, the ‘elite’ undergo rigorous maintenance, updating through seminars, conferences and advanced studies to keep current with new technology and procedures. In adding our ‘Tampa’s Doctors of the Year’ section with this issue, we present a group of physicians, all of whom are reputable, Board Certified in their areas of expertise, extremely well recognized within our community and chosen by their peers. Our objective is to initiate a continuing dialogue with our readers, with an aim toward personalizing some of the finest doctors available.

At VIVIFY plastic surgery, Dr. Buchanan focuses on elective cosmetic surgery and breast cancer reconstruction. The practice philosophy is patient centered, customized care. He assesses each of his patients individually and reviews in detail their specific goals and objectives. He then creates a unique approach that may include surgical or non-surgical treatments. His expertise lies in staying up to date on the most cutting-edge technology and techniques to give each patient the best outcome possible. One look at his results and his long list of stellar online reviews only serves to prove that he is already a great addition to Tampa Bay. When asked about this new chapter in his life, Dr. Buchanan stated, “I could not be happier to be a part of the Tampa Bay community and get the opportunity to contribute to the health and wellness of its citizens.”

TA M PA’ S

DOCTORS+

OF THE YEAR

Mark Cascione, MD First Choice Neurology Dr. Mark Cascione joined one of the premiere private practice neurology groups, Tampa Neurology Associates, directly after completing his medical training in 1996. After his bachelors from the College of the Holy Cross in MA, he began metabolic neuroendocrine research at the MGH in Boston before attending the Univ of Vermont College of Medicine. From his medical internship at Maine Medical Center in Portland, he moved south to complete his neurology residency and clinical neurophysiology fellowship at Duke University Medical Center in NC, and has comfortably settled in the sunshine state since then. He credits his partners, Drs. Stephen Sergay and Susan Steen, with having the foresight to blend the clinical and academic nature of neurology with their founding of Axiom Clinical Research, in 1997. Axiom’s patient-based focus, along with Dr. Cascione’s concept of the South Tampa MS Center, which he opened in 2001, solidified his commitment to the treatment and research for people living with multiple sclerosis. When the mid-Florida chapter of the National MS Society peer counselors began to spread this news, further opportunities for patient care began to flourish in South Tampa. The methodical manner and time “Dr. C” spends with his 1200+ MS patients to assess their multiple issues allows for a high quality patient experience. Dr. Cascione has been the principle investigator in 50+ MS protocols, and in over 100 other neurological trials with Axiom Research, and has been its vice-president for the past ten years. He has garnered national and international MS thought-leader status and has educated other neurologists and MS specialists about treatment modalities available to the MS community, and has been a faculty advisor/lecturer and presenter at MS congresses even beyond the US in Montreal, Copenhagen, Barcelona, London and most recently in June 2019 in Buenos Aires. His fellow partners at Tampa Neurology, Dr. Steen, Dr. Sunil Reddy and Dr. Linga V Reddy have personal expectations to individually meet the highest of ongoing medical standards with a patient-centered focus on their neurologic care, which drives their practice forward. This has continued with the recent partnership with First Choice Neurology physicians group in 2017, now enabling broader coverage with 50+ neurologic specialists from Tampa to Miami. A focus on physical and psychological wellness is maintained by Dr. Cascione. An avid 5 day a week gym-goer himself, the importance of regular physical exercise, healthy eating, social interactions and cognitive activities help complete patients’ neurologic care. Dr. Cascione also offers medical advice to Quantum Leap Farms horseback “hippotherapy” rehabilitation for patients with MS. Among other accolades, he was voted one of Tampa’s Top Docs in 2017 and 2018. New patients are welcome to the South Tampa office!
