10 - PUBLISHER’S NOTE

Dear Readers, > This summer was quite a hot one, and now that the heat seems to be winding down, we can look back on the memories we made and the sunny days we have enjoyed. I sure enjoyed this summer, since Germany won the World Cup! I am so excited for my home country, but also for USA, who did exceedingly well in the international games. Now that our nation is starting to make a lasting impression in the world of soccer, this exciting sport is sure to be sweeping the nation. I find that it is always important to become more aware of our international surroundings, from sports to fashion, and here at Tampa Style Magazine, we always ensure that our readers stay up to date on the latest trends in any area of culture and style. This September issue of Tampa Style is our Fall Fashion issue, and we present you with a fashion-forward “Girls Night Out” photo shoot from up-andcoming photographer, Jessie Dee, who captured the eclectic beauty of downtown Orlando’s Aloft Hotel. Also, after listening to your comments, we decided to once again explore your favorite interior design inspirations in our “Living N’ Style” section. Indulge yourself with interesting ideas on how to reinvent your home that you won’t find in any other publication. Please let us know what you think about it. This issue also features “Tampa Bay’s Legal Elite 2014,” where you will find top, legal brains in the city. Offering fresh perspective on local attorneys that have been evaluated by readers like you. If you have gained knowledge from your own experience of searching for the right attorney, please be sure to let us know what you have learned. You can visit our website, suggest, and vote for your favorite “Legal Elite Lawyer.” We are already gathering votes for next year’s “Tampa Bay’s Legal Elite,” and we want to add your recommendations to our list of local lawyers chosen by our readers.

As this summer comes to a close, we must not forget that this year’s hurricane season will soon be reaching its peak. Always make sure that you and your loved ones are stocked up with the necessities and vital supplies before any threatening weather gets too close to our Florida Coast. However, although it is important to take these safety precautions, I have come to learn that worrying gets us nowhere; we should not become too concerned with these tropical formations that emerge from thousands of miles away, as they might not even reach our city. Be safe and sound, but never compromise the happiness of today for the stress of tomorrow. Along with our hope for security during this season of wild weather, we also send our wishes that you all have a joyous Labor Day weekend with your family and friends. This holiday, do yourself a favor and take a welldeserved break from your work schedule and indulge in the glorious beauty of Tampa and surrounding areas. We also wish a very happy New Year and Rosh Hashanah 5775 to all of our Jewish friends. With all of the benefits of our nation’s freedom, we must never forget about those who are less fortunate. We send our hope for peace in the Middle East and other areas of the world that are currently affected by turmoil. I encourage us all to focus on the needs of others more than the needs of ourselves, and may we begin to live with tolerance in mind. I am forever grateful for the dedication of our loyal readers, and I hope that you all begin this fall season with an abundance of peace and happiness. Sincerely,

Sven J. Bode, Publisher

IF YOU’VE REACHED THAT POINT WHERE MOST OF YOUR DESTINATION TRIPS TO BEACHFRONT RESORTS HAVE BEGUN TO BLUR INTO ONE ALL TOO FAMILIAR MEMORY, THEN CURAÇAO COULD BE THE PLACE FOR YOU.

SANTA BARBARA BEACH & GOLF RESORT CURAÇAO Create a new vacation tradition at Sea Traditions! By Riesa Pascal

> A stay at the Santa Barbara Beach and Golf Resort Curaçao will be far from your typical Caribbean vacation. Fortunately, these differences will be evident in the most spectacular ways possible. Vacationing in any tropical destination typically involves heading to a long stretch of beach with dozens of borderline identical resorts all lined up in neat little rows like a beautiful, but commonplace orange grove. If you’ve reached that point where most of your destination trips to beachfront resorts have begun to blur into one all too familiar memory, then Curaçao could be the place for you. Unsurpassed by their rivals, the Santa Barbara Beach and Golf Resort Curaçao is guaranteed to bring you a brand new vacationing experience from the moment you depart Curaçao’s modern international airport and begin the scenic ride to the gorgeous, secluded property. You’ll drive past the “orange grove” resorts and across a magnificent bridge overlooking the beautiful capital of Willemstad, before eventually coming up to the regal, gated entrance of the Santa Barbara Beach and Golf Resort. Located on 2,000 acres of rare natural preserve, it’ll be impossible not to unwind and relax on this charming property which sits miles away from the hustle and bustle of downtown and other resorts in the area. This is especially true when you have the unparalleled pleasure of staying in one of the resort’s famous Sea Traditions rooms. Nestled among three separate, semiprivate buildings in their own unique community on the resort, the Sea Traditions guest rooms offer the ideal setting for a true Caribbean getaway. It is the perfect choice for the traveler seeking a more private, luxurious vacationing ex-

perience. Sea Traditions is comfortably separated from the main portion of the hotel, yet it remains close enough to allow guests to enjoy the property’s restaurants, the spa and every other resort service, including a few exclusive services available only to you. While staying at Sea Traditions I had the use of a private Sea Traditions enclave swimming pool, a private patio overlooking the Caribbean Sea, a semi-private courtyard entrance and an on call butler from 9am to 7pm. Over 400 square feet of living space and several upgraded, unique amenities made it more than a little difficult to leave my suite each day, but a little reminder that I was vacationing on the beautiful island of Curaçao was the only push I needed to get up and go explore. My first official morning on the island began with a private meal at the Sea Traditions pool. If breakfast truly is the most important meal of the day, then Sea Traditions has the Goliath of breakfast buffets. Bacon, sausage, fruit, tropical drinks, omelets cooked to order and more left us satisfied and ready for the adventurous day ahead. Our first stop was Willemstad for a walking tour of Curaçao’s beloved capitol with Island Adventures. Knowledge of the island’s history and a contagious passion for sharing Curaçao culture came in the form of Island Adventure’s Bigala, our spirited tour guide for the day. The Curaçao native with a bigger than life personality was a bright addition to our day and carried an even brighter smile to match. She brought us right up to the entrance of the Mikvé Israel-Emanuel Synagogue and proceeded to tell us all about its history as the oldest synagogue in continuous use in the Western Hemisphere. She swiftly recalled various facts as she walked

us past the Governor’s Mansion and through the center of town. She led us through the Venezuelan floating market and in an off the cuff decision, even purchased a few unique fruits for my companion and I to taste and try. Bigala’s enthusiasm and love for her island was more than just contagious. It was physically palpable and resulted in a tour that took on a rare personal feel that I know I will compare to all future tours for years to come. From Willemstad, Bigala led us to explore the magnificent beaches of the island’s west side and Boca Tabla, a rocky beach line with breathtaking views of where land and ocean join to become one. Next on the to-do-list (and something that should be on everyone’s bucket list!) was an underwater safari excursion appropriately called, Aquafari. Located next door to Pirate Bay at Piscadera, Aquafari was the experience of a lifetime. As someone who isn’t certified in scuba diving, but has still desired to explore the deep blue, Aquafari provided me just that opportunity. In groups of 4-6, we boarded our personal, ecofriendly, self-propelled submersible scooter and set “sail” into the sea. Unlike scuba diving there was no certification required outside of a brief safety training session by Shenna, Aquafari’s

kind, beautiful hostess who was just as excited for our adventure to begin as we were. For an hour we glided effortlessly through the sea with Jason and Andy, two certified scuba divers who guided, monitored and photographed the entire experience. Deep under the crystal clear water we enjoyed colorful reefs, a variety of extraordinary tropical fish and many other fascinating sea creatures. Dinner that evening came in the form of L’aldea, an authentic Brazilian steakhouse with a twist. The gorgeous restaurant is one part of a themed 4000 square meter resort that reflects the cultures of the Mayan, Aztec, Inca and Arawak. In addition to the steakhouse and hotel, L’aldea also has two additional restaurants, a park, a souvenir shop and a spa where you can have a pedicure by live Garra Rufa fish. Roughly 130 exotic animals are on the property and a unique 45-minute tour is offered to see them all as well as replicas of the ancient ruins of the Mayan, Aztecs and Incas. Dinner at L’aldea combined the renowned cuisine of Southern Brazil with the generous spirit of Curaçao. Expertly paired wines flowed and live musical entertainment filled the air as we enjoyed 18 of the finest selections of beef, lamb, poultry, pork and jumbo shrimp all prepared in an exquisitely delicious culinary style.

The following day was one of education and creativity. After another scenic poolside breakfast, my companions and I were off on our first adventure, a tour of Curaçao’s Aloe Vera plantation. During a fascinating hour with our guide Remco, we learned all about the innumerable benefits of Aloe Vera and the plantation’s world famous brand of all natural Aloe Vera products appropriately titled Curaloe. After a much-desired pit stop at the Curaloe gift shop, we traveled just a couple more minutes down the road and pulled into our next destination, Serena’s Art Factory. A Chichi is a sensual, well-rounded Caribbean figure that represents the strong, happy and caring elder sister of a family. She is handmade and hand painted in bright Caribbean colors by craftsmen and painters at Serena’s. There I got to paint my own personal Chichi at a workshop led by the helpful, ever so friendly Suéanna who was more than happy to lend us a steady hand when it came to painting little details on our handmade figurines. Afterwards I had the pleasure of meeting the bubbly Serena who personally signed the bottom of my Chichi. Later that afternoon we met Dinah Veeris and enjoyed a walking trail through her beautiful garden to learn about healing herbs and

the cultural heritage of Curaçao. The exciting day rounded up with a thrilling game of the Santa Barbara Beach and Golf Resort’s brand new glow-in-thedark night putting experience. Immediately afterwards we headed next door to the resort’s helipad for a luxurious buffet dinner complete with exceptional live entertainment by the island’s popular reggae band, Uprising. My last day in Curaçao was spent almost entirely on property at the Santa Barbara Beach and Golf Resort and unsurprisingly, it was also one of the most relaxing. The morning began with another buffet breakfast before a few of my companions and I engaged in a peaceful aqua tai chi session in Sea Traditions pool. Fitness instructor, Juanina led the ancient technique as a bright orange troupial bird watched curiously from the trees. Paddleboarding along the gentle waters of the Caribbean Sea followed the tai chi experience before a quick, delicious bite at MEDI Restaurant also located on property.

the front deck to napping under the setting sun, sailing on the tranquil waters was the climax to a resort vacation that I didn’t think could get any more relaxing. My stay in Curaçao was full of the fun and activity I longed for, but only one thing made it possible to handle that much adventure everyday. It was having a place like Sea Traditions to come home to every evening. Having a plush king bed and luxurious pillows to rest my head on at night, a bathroom full of locally crafted products by Curaloe to use as generously as I desire and a lavish stay at a gorgeous, unforgettable resort that embraces the traditions of the sea and the island of Curaçao. Reclaim your vacation and start a new tradition by booking your own adventure at Santa Barbara Beach and Golf Resort’s Sea Traditions.

MY LAST DAY IN CURAÇAO WAS SPENT ALMOST ENTIRELY ON PROPERTY AT THE SANTA BARBARA BEACH AND GOLF RESORT AND UNSURPRISINGLY, IT WAS ALSO ONE OF THE MOST RELAXING.

THE TAMPA BAY WINE & FOOD FESTIVAL This year, The Tampa Bay Wine & Food Festival will be held on Sept. 12 and 13 at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts. The festival kicks off with the Southern Charm Wine & Food Gala and Auction, which begins at 7 p.m. on Sept. 12. The gala is black-tie optional and showcases fantastic food and wine alongside live entertainment, games, vendors, and a fun atmosphere that is sure to be enjoyed by all. While sampling the best cuisine of the city, attendees will also be able to participate in the gala’s silent auction, sponsored by many of the corporations who help make the festival a success. Even better, you’ll be bidding for a cause—all of the proceeds raised from the auction will benefit charities in the Brandon community and Tampa Bay areas. If you’re a self-declared “foodie,” this next event is one you’ll have to put on your calendar! The Tampa Bay Wine & Food Festival’s Grand Tasting. On Sept. 13, Tampa residents and visitors alike can participate in a walkabout event with fine wines from around the globe and food from the city’s best restaurants. TAMPA THEATRE WINEFEST 2014 What’s the only thing better than a wine tasting? A themed wine tasting! This is exactly what you’ll find at the Tampa Theatre’s WineFest 2014. With a theme of “Monty Python and the Holy Grape,” this festival will also feature a wine pairing, wine brunch and food from many of Tampa’s best independent restaurants. Dressing up as your favorite Monty characters is both permitted and encouraged. The festival is the 13th annual moviethemed wine festival hosted by the theatre, with all proceeds going towards the theatre’s restoration efforts and related educated programs. The event kicks off with a wine tasting Sept. 12. There, theatre patrons can attend a Premium or Grand Tasting. Wines available will be complemented by delectable foods from some of Tampa’s favorite restaurants: Bern’s Steak House, Catrinas Cocina Y Galeria, and Anise Global Gastrobar. Yet no tasting is enough to satisfy the palette of a true wine aficionado. The theatre will host a wine pairing on Sept. 13, sponsored by Bank of America. Sit back, relax, and enjoy a five-course meal catered by Marty Blitz, with the wines to match. Think you already know everything there is about food and wine pairing? This meal will make

you question your choices—and then help you wow your friends at your next dinner party. Though the wine pairing is sure to be one of your favorite meals of all-time, however, leave some room! After a wine-filled weekend, a few days of rest are just what you need before the next big event. On Sept. 18, oenophiles are invited to participate in the Tampa Theatre’s latest event—the 95 pt+ Wine Tasting! Head over to The Tampa Club where an assortment of wines will be available for tasting, all of which have received ratings of 95 or higher from related publications. Many of the wines selected are no longer available for purchase, so take advantage of this opportunity while you can! This is a treat you won’t want to miss. 1) Bejeweled Kitchens: The kitchen is truly the centerpiece of a home. Now, more than ever, unique design trends are emphasizing the functionality and beauty of this special room. In 2014, bold color palettes in gemstone shades of purple, green and red are complimented by elaborate or vintage light fixtures. They’re topped off with back splashes and countertops composed of synthetic materials that imitate semi-precious stones like agate and malachite. >

They’re in use for everything from accent cushions to upholstery to wall colors. Turquoise is the perfect compliment to all shades of brown, gray and black and ensures a unique, memorable tone for any room. 4) Hair on Hide: The unique textures of hair on hide furniture add a creative touch to every room. BROKE

& FAMOUS

They had it all, but spent it all… and then some. By Riesa Pascal

Most of the population can only dream of achieving the wealth that today’s stars tend to rake in on a daily basis. Actors, musicians, athletes and dozens of other celebrities can—and often do—make millions of dollars off of being in the spotlight. Yet somehow we still manage to hear superstar[s] stories of financial woes and bankruptcy. For some like me, it might seem unfathomable that a celeb could drop the financial ball so horribly and so irreversibly fail at managing their finances. At the end of the day, however, they’re only human and for the following celebs, being human also means being broke as a joke.

StyleToMe.com

CELEBRITY SOUP - 35

DRAKE BELL

$581,000

Nickelodeon child star Drake Bell filed for bankruptcy in February of this year. At the young age of 27, Bell claimed he was in debt to the tune of $581,000. The former star of the hit children’s comedy show Drake & Josh listed the value of his house at $1.575 million, although he owes $1.597 million. According to court documents, Bell says his earnings are $2,820 a month, but his expenses total well over that at $18,771. Bell felt the financial hit hardest when his yearly earnings dropped from $408,000 in 2012, to only $14,099 in 2013. Bell is currently recording new music and has taken to touring in an effort to pay back his many bills and reclaim that lavish lifestyle that cost him so much.

JANICE DICKINSON

$1 MILLION

It appears not even models are safe from Uncle Sam! The “world’s first supermodel” Janice Dickinson filed for bankruptcy last year, owing $1 million. Over half of the 58 year-old’s bill was owed to the government and most of the remaining thousands is in checking overdraft fees and unpaid medical bills to her many plastic surgeons and dermatologists. “I am upset and taking every step to pay everyone back and I feel terrible about it,” said Dickinson during an interview about her debt troubles. On the bright side, City National Bank recently agreed to settle her $300k+ debt to them for just $100,000. Their reason? Her age and lack of assets will make it difficult for her to earn any money... Ouch!

AARON CARTER

$2 MILLION+ Pop star and former teen sensation Aaron Carter was deep in the hole when he filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in late 2013. According to legal documents, Carter’s assets totaled a measly $8,232.16, but he owed more than $2 million with over half of that belonging to the IRS. According to the singer’s representative, the majority of the debt is from more than 10 years ago when he was a minor and not in control of his finances. However, Carter’s story is one of the few here that does have a “happy” ending. After filing a bankruptcy petition and completing a credit counseling class and a course in personal finance management, a judge completely dismissed all of Carter’s debts earlier this year. Despite owing millions, the 26-year-old singer is now free to press the restart button on his life and hope for a better financial journey this time around. StyleToMe.com

36 - CELEBRITY SOUP

SINBAD

10 MILLION + David Adkins is the famous ‘90s comedian and actor better known as Sinbad and he is our second broke celebrity who has filed for bankruptcy twice. Sinbad’s first case was dismissed in 2009 due to filing incorrect documentation. He was able to file again for Chapter 7 bankruptcy last year after claiming he owes nearly $11 million with only $131,000 in assets. Sinbad broke down his bills as owing $374,979 to American Express, $32,199 to Bank of America, $2.3 million to the CA Franchise Tax Board, $8.3 million to the IRS for taxes from 1998-2006, as well as owing both state and federal taxes from 2009-2012. According to the bankruptcy docs, Sinbad earns only $16,000 per month and can’t afford to pay his bills. The 57 year old’s self-help book, “Sinbad’s Guide to Life” is currently for sale on Amazon for a few bucks each. Something tells me there won’t be much financial advice to be found in there though.

MC HAMMER

$13 MILLION Stanley Burrell, better known as MC Hammer, has become a “must-have” story in any list of celebs who went bankrupt. The award winning rapper shot to fame with hit tracks such as “U Can’t Touch This” and “2 Legit 2 Quit.” He became the first to have a diamond certified hip-hop album and his lifestyle began to reflect that rather quickly. Among other extravagant and lavish expenses, Hammer paid $9.3 million for a mansion in Northern California and then spent over twice that amount on custom features. Due to low album sales, debts, and the excessive lifestyle lived above his means, Hammer and his wife ultimately filed for Chapter 11 in 1996 and began the long process of paying back his debtors and the IRS. Fortunately the 52 year old knows that his high profile bankruptcy became a big joke and he has no shame in making fun of himself by appearing in self-deprecating commercials and poking fun at his situation on reality TV.

TONI BRAXTON

$18.3 MILLION Multi-grammy award winning artist Toni Braxton filed for bankruptcy twice, once in 1998 and again in 2010. The “Unbreak my heart” singer soon followed in the footsteps of many broke celebrities who have turned to reality television in a desperate attempt to make some extra cash. Last month, WE premiered the fourth season of Braxton’s show “Braxton Family Values” which is helping the 46 year old pay off some of her massive bills. $16 million out of her $18.3 million debt is owed to record labels although she has admitted to struggling with compulsive home shopping as well. Braxton, who also unfortunately suffers and struggles with Lupus, lost over $50 million after her illness prevented her from being able to perform scheduled shows in Las Vegas. <

SIMPLE CURES FOR GETTING MORE SLEEP By Emily Topper

> Ah, September. The kids are back in school, the weekends are packed with activities, and you’re running amuck trying to get everything done--even if it means sacrificing sleep. You know you’re supposed to get the recommended seven hours a night, but your life (and your brain) just aren’t allowing it. Luckily, we’ve got you covered.

Sure, the end of summer might make you a bit crankier than usual

Does that sound like you? If so, it’s time to start taking your health

(who would want to stop going to the beach every day?), but

seriously. Lack of sleep can lead to weight gain, depression, and

your sour mood may be related to your lack of sleep. Those who

disease, stroke, diabetes and arthritis. Staying on top of your

schedule is important, but it’s not worth the health risks and mood changes that insomnia can cause. But don’t worry, these tips and tricks are sure to help you finally catch some z’s.

HEALTH & BEAUTY - 53

First (and we know you don’t want to hear this), you need to cut the caffeine. Stick to a cup of your favorite brew in the morning, but halt all coffee consumption after lunch. If you’re a regular Starbucks junkie, you may feel like your venti triple-shot latte only gave you enough energy for one hour. In actuality, your first cup of caffeine is more than enough to get you through the day, whether or not you want to admit it. On average, one cup of coffee should stay in your system for around seven to eight hours--enough to get you out of bed and through your workday. Same rules apply to you, soda and energy drinkers: One and done.

So you’ve cut the caffeine, but an after-hours drink at your favorite pub won’t cause any harm, right? Wrong. Ladies, this one’s especially for you: Cut out the bedtime booze. While men can toss back a beer before bed and sleep like a baby, studies show that women who do the same have a harder time sleeping. If you simply must have a substitute, try a room temperature glass of water or a cup of warm milk.

Chances are, your workday isn’t quite over when you leave the office. Between picking up the kids from school, going to your dentist appointment and making dinner, you hardly have time to think. As difficult as it may be, take some time for yourself when you get home--even it’s just for a few minutes. Put a hold on all distractions to read a chapter of your favorite book or hop on the treadmill for thirty minutes. In addition to helping you destress, this personal time is perfect for winding down before you climb into bed.

Before your head hits the pillow at night, make sure your bedroom is your sanctuary. Turn off your phone completely before getting under the covers--your emails and Instagram will have to wait. If your phone is your wake-up call, that could be part of the problem. Switch off your favorite digital device in exchange for an actual alarm clock. Sleeping is sure to be easier when you aren’t waiting for the next text or Facebook like. But don’t just stop at your phone: Turn off your iPod, laptop and tablet, too. While you would think that straining your eyes would make them more tired, keeping your laptop open means you’ll spend more time on Netflix instead of in dreamland.

Unfortunately, shutting off the phone doesn’t necessarily mean that your brain turns off as well. If you toss and turn half the night while thinking about everything you have to do the next day, you may need a fresh scent to help you unwind. Worried about starting a new job or the state of your finances? Sniff some valerian root. Convinced that car repair will totally empty your savings? Try some lavender oil. These aromas will relax your mind so that you can finally get some sleep.

Aromas aren’t only used for helping you sleep at night. If you’re still struggling to hold up your eyelids at work the next morning, some natural scents will give you a little pick-me-up (no, it’s not the coffee bean--keep dreaming). Pop a peppermint in your mouth or squeeze a few drops of lemon into your ice water at lunch for an energy burst. This is the healthy way to keep you moving forward, especially if you’re sure you won’t last another 30 minutes without a Red Bull. And yeah, you might not need that triple-shot latte after all! <

Ariana Grande One Less Problem By Courtney Caggiano

> With her 2014 hit single, “Problem,”

Ariana Grande has transformed herself from a teen acting sensation into one of pop music’s most talked about talents. A Florida native, Ariana Grande was raised in Boca Raton, where she began acting and singing at the age of six. Kicking off her career on the Nickelodeon children’s sitcom, Victorious, Grande had found herself in the role of a teen idol well before the start of her music career, with nearly 15 million Twitter followers and a spinoff television series, Sam & Cat.

TAMMI J. DRIVER Board Certified Adoption Attorney > Creating families through adoption is attorney Tammi Driver’s profession and passion. While in some cases, it is making legal a relationship that already exists, such as a stepparent adoption; in other cases, it is matching an expectant mother with a prospective adoptive family, and guiding them through the birth, placement of the child, and finalization of the adoption. According to Tammi, “Whether you are a prospective adoptive parent or an expectant/birth parent, nothing is more important or life changing than the adoption of your child. Therefore, it cannot be overstated how important it is that the attorney you work with is experienced and well versed in both adoption law and the emotional complexities involved in an adoption.” Tammi happens to be well versed in both.

Anthony brings affordable legal support to small business owners with the pedigree of a large corporate lawyer, including an “AV” Preeminent® Peer Review Rating™ by Martindale-Hubbell®, a “Rising Star” designation by Super Lawyers magazine, and selections as one of Florida’s “Legal Elite” by Florida Trend magazine in 2010, and “Tampa’s Top Rated Lawyers” ™ by Legal Leaders™ in 2013.

But what Anthony is most proud of is his 10.0 Superb rating by AVVO and the positive reviews left there by his former clients. “Although I appreciate when other lawyers and judges validate my abilities, it’s the confirmation from my clients that fuels me.” A former college football athlete with a commanding physical presence, it is the representation of the individual and small business “little guy” which is his passion. “I have always rooted for the underdog. I strongly believe that everyone has a right to equally competent and skilled representation regardless of financial means. My paternal grandfather was a physician and he preached that he was a healer first and a businessman second. I feel the same way about my own clients and I feel truly honored when someone comes to me asking for help with their legal problems”. In addition to his commercial and business litigation practice, Anthony also represents individuals who have suffered traumatic brain injuries or been involved in an accident with large commercial vehicle or trucks. Combining this with his background experience with head and brain trauma development and diagnosis, has resulted in his lifetime admission to the Million Dollar Advocates Forum®. This passion for helping others is seen in his dedication to community involvement. In addition to the monthly pro bono legal clinic conducted through his firm, Anthony has been heavily involved with Bar leadership. Anthony is a former President of the Hillsborough County Bar Association Young Lawyers Division and an Officer on the Hillsborough County Bar Association Board of Directors. BILL YANGER Yanger Law Group, P.A. > “There is a common misperception, in our estimation, that the more a lawyer imitates a ferocious growling bulldog the more effective he or she becomes,” Bill Yanger says. “We have learned that nothing is further from the truth. It may work in the short term but it is a recipe for career failure. Like any job, profession or trade, becoming an effective and respected lawyer is about nurturing positive and productive relationships. In our business that means relationships with our staff, other lawyers and their staffs, with judges, with court personnel and most importantly with our clients and the community at large. Yes, we resolve conflict. But resolution rarely occurs successfully without cooperation and mutual respect.”

Artsy Fall Style By Ro Martinez

> Artsy style is not about following trends but about creating your own look by putting together outfits using favorite garments and accessories from designers, boutiques and consignment stores. Take a style like couture, glam, goth, hipster, nautical, preppy, romantic, or vintage and make it as unique as you are. Blend different styles from different eras to create a look that’s all your own. For example, pair your grandmother’s lace blouse and pearls with your boyfriend’s jeans, then accent with the latest handbag. Be artistic and express yourself with your clothing. Personality and style go hand in hand. A shy person will gravitate to more subdued colors and simple, classic lines. A sports enthusiast will go for a sporty, comfortable style, while a creative person who loves color will go for an artsy, eclectic style — my favorite. Never force a style or copy someone else in a way that conflicts with your personality. Be true to yourself so that you feel comfortable as you go about your day

RICH, WARM COLORS Fall colors are comforting like a warm bowl of pumpkin and butternut squash soup or sweet potato pie. Fall colors are rich and spicy, like paprika and mustard yellow, sharp and sweet like lime green and candy apple red — yummy. These colors found in nature blend

TampaStyleMagazine.com

perfectly, like paints in the hands of a trained artist. Fall colors are the warm colors on the color wheel, so no wonder we feel comforted when we wear them. I use these colors to decorate my house and surround myself with warmth all year round. Feeling bold? Introduce bold colors into your wardrobe. Wear a bright solid sweater dress with fun printed leggings and boots. Feeling more reserved? Dress up an otherwise neutral outfit by adding color in small doses with richly colored accessories like a fun knit hat, a textured sweater handbag, or bright scarf. Dramatic or understated, you are the artist. Just because something is sold as a set does not mean you have to wear it that way. Mix and match styles, colors and patterns and wear lightweight summer pieces underneath knits or jackets to create a playful feel. You do not have to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe; just one or two new garments or accessories in orange, lime green or red will add a punch of color to your existing wardrobe.

COOLER WEATHER Fall’s cooling temperatures allow for greater flexibility in your wardrobe. Layer items such as knit vests, jackets, sweaters and scarves to help keep you warm. Autumn’s knits require a little extra care. Always read garment care labels. When in doubt, hand wash or dry clean your special pieces before storing. Gen-

FASHION - 91

tly fold, never hang, your sweaters, as hanging will cause them to stretch, and hangers will damage the shoulder area. Jewelry can snag your fall knits. If this happens, do not cut the pulled yarn, but turn the garment inside out and use a needle to pull loose yarn through to the inside of the garment. It will still be pulled, but once on the reverse side, the pull will not be visible. Falling temperatures allow us the opportunity to spend time outdoors, exploring all nature has to offer. The reduced humidity makes the air feel cleansed and changing colors in nature add interest to our landscape. Take advantage of the beauty that surrounds us. Don´t be a couch potato or homebody — grab the kids, the dog, and the bike and head outdoors. Remember to dress in layers, combining those gorgeous fall colors, and make sure to incorporate your own style the way our artsy model Christine has done. Looking good is just as important as feeling good.

FALL EXPRESSIONS Take a cue from artist John Hayden who started out sketching, then experimented with mixed media and full use of color to develop his style, abstract expressionist. “I believe fashion to be an art of personal self expression, creating a new outer layer of skin, the very soul of an artist is an expression of one’s own identity,” explains Hayden, whose beautiful paintings served as our backdrop. Fashion is about art and self-expression. Whether you already have great style or are looking to develop your own artsy style, take your time and have fun with it. Fall is the perfect time to release the artist in you. With color and texture, clothing styles and accessories, you can create a look that reflects your personality and expresses the beauty inside of you. “Dare to be yourself and wear the clothes that express the unique and fabulous person you are! Color this life with shapes, colors and styles – and be the shining example of the beauty of diversity.” Personal Fashion Style www.thechicfashionista.com Photos by Angela Mann Photography www.angelamannphotography.com Hair and Makeup by Ro Martinez www.modelingatanyagebook.net A special thanks to artist John Hayden www.Facebook.com/JohnhaydenArtist His beautiful artistic paintings served as our backdrop.
