publisher’s note

> It’s been ten years since the attack on the World Trade Center occurred and since that time we have survived the many ‘ups’ and ‘downs’ which followed and exist to this day. Hopefully, the armed conflicts we are participants in will soon end so that our great country can get back to the business of replenishing its confidence as well as its economic growth. Having a positive mindset will be the catalyst for strengthening these objectives. When it comes right down to reality, we know that the big corporations are all awash in cash and profitability. Next, we always seem to have a problem finding a parking space at the malls, leading us to believe that things are just not as bad as they appear. Now we face a presidential election year and while we never take political sides we hope that our elected officials begin working together in a bipartisan way to lead us back to prosperity.

Also, please remember that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Lupus Awareness Month, National Diabetes Month and the more joyful celebration of Halloween … One of my personal favorites is Howl-O-Scream at Busch Gardens. The living dead haunts the dark side of the gardens. For all you zombie fans out there, this haunted house is a must see. We know you will enjoy reading and be entertained by this issue. We have had fun putting it together for you and if you haven’t already done so, why not use this opportunity to have Tampa Style find its way into your mailbox? Retail Therapy DO YOU BUY THAT EXCUSE? By: Jessica Sanchez Read more at: StyleToMe.com

For women the mall is simply one big

psychiatric center and each store is like a

personal therapist with a different specialty.

> When it comes to dealing with stress men and women go about it differently. According to psychologists, the testosterone in men - while great for motivating them to change tires or leave ankle-deep puddles of water around the sink when they brush their teeth - also prompts them to bottle up stress like a genie that can only be released when they’re alone and watching a game as they drink beer (as long as their team doesn‘t fumble in the 4th quarter). Women are just the opposite. The estrogen in our bodies reaches out to hug stress in a hormonal embrace where it is fed and nurtured and allowed to grow into a defiant teenager that we don’t want to be left alone with. This is why, when we’re stressed, we seek out populated areas like malls. Men are told to manage their stress by exercising, eating healthy and sleeping well. That’s all it takes! All of those things can be done at home. Women, on the other hand, are a little more complicated. They’re told to try pilates, have a girl’s lunch, or pamper themselves at a spa, and all of these things must be done at the mall (reaching for sales and stretching your budget is an excellent form of retail pilates). For women the mall is simply one big psychiatric center and each store is like a personal therapist with a different specialty: • The mature but chic styles in department stores remind women of the careers they’ve worked so hard to achieve and this gives them pride.

They’ll later learn the pitfalls of buyer’s remorse when they realize they bought a purse that cost more than all of their other purchases combined. • Make-up counters may not get rid of stress itself, but they do away with the wrinkles and bags caused by stress. This restores confidence as it allows women to look as young on the outside as they feel on the inside. • Shoe stores are the equivalent of Xanax. • And lingerie stores let women work out any daddy issues that usually only surface on a cruise when they’re drunk. Even the generic Bourbon chicken at the food court tastes sweeter than any homecooked meal for the simple fact that she is not home and does not have to cook (or clean). But, like any therapy, there can be set-backs. A woman’s stress may go up as she walks by the Apple store because it may remind her of the husband and kids at home who play video games and watch TV instead of picking up around the house. For the most part though, when she walks out of the mall her arms may be weighed down by shopping bags, but her mind is (Buy-1-Get-1) free of stress! For those few hours she wasn’t lamenting the past or stressed about the future, she was truly living in the “now.” Unfortunately she’ll eventually come down from this high but she can tell herself that retail therapy is still cheaper than a psychiatrist.<

• Luxury stores bring out the inner teenager who spent money with reckless abandon because they thought it grew on trees.

Z Hotel NYC

Industrial Light & Magic By: Holly V. Kapherr and Cliff Alejos Read more at: StyleToMe.com

> Long Island City is quickly becoming a haven for luxe boutique hotels for a fraction of Manhattan costs. Making a beeline for Manhattan? You’re probably on the hunt for luxury accommodations in the city. Maybe somewhere in Midtown with easy access to the attractions and shopping. Maybe you seek an alternative experience in the East Village or TriBeCa, where super-trendy hipsters hang and the celeb chefs flock to open their temples of cuisine. Consider this: Instead of taking in the sights from between the skyscrapers, Long Island City, just across the Queensboro Bridge, is the new, trendy place for savvy travelers with a taste for luxury. Two boutique hotels on the East River boast breathtaking views, attentive accommodations and amenities no Manhattan hotel could provide. Only three months young, The Z Hotel recently opened its revolving doors to a slew of young, hot European tourists looking for Manhattan luxe at Queens prices. The build-

ing is tall and skinny, each room looking out over the East River with a stunning view of the skyline and Queensboro Bridge. Appointments like slate flooring, custom headboards and shabby-chic lighting fixtures made from Mason jars hint at a little Southern charm with signature New York flair. Each room is outfitted with fluffy towels, Egyptian cotton sheets with down comforters, two plush robes and a pair of flip flops for each guest emblazoned with the Z Hotel logo to go padding around the hotel in comfort. Check out local top stories on the flat-screen TV and bathe yourself in the fragrances of toiletries from San Francisco boutique Essentiel Elements. The rooftop of the Z Hotel hosts international DJs Thursday-Sunday nights, serving up pizza and signature drinks while the music pumps and spins. The Manhattan skyline twinkles at night, and on the opposite side of the hotel, take note of the Silvercup Studios, a Queens institution. Under the hotel lobby, another super-chic bar is a favorite hotspot of local singles dressed to the nines.

The Ravel Hotel

Getting into the city is effortless with the complimentary shuttle service by The Z Hotel. Leaving from the hotel on the hour from 7am-11pm and transporting guests to Midtown (Lexington and 58th Street) as an amenity was a priceless (literally!) perk. Staying out late? A cab from Midtown will run about $10, and the 7, E & F trains run all night and the walk from the Court Square station is a quick, safe one. Just two blocks away, the Ravel Hotel is teeming with style, quality and character. With lovely views of Roosevelt Island, just like at the Z Hotel, each room at the Ravel faces the east side of Manhattan. Long Island City was a once industrial section of Queens is now revitalizing into an up-andcoming, trendy town where condos, hotels and restaurants are quickly coming out of the woodwork. Hotelier Ravi Patel, who first got his start with the Best Western chain, opened the Ravel (a combination of his first and last names) as a pet project, along with its sister hotel, the Hotel Chantelle, on the Lower

East Side of Manhattan. With plans to expand to the space next door in the next few years, the Ravel Hotel is one of the original venues to have sprung up three years ago and still holds the standard in town today. Lounge in the teardrop lobby or grab a drink at the adjacent bar or one of the selfservice wine fountains (think Wine Bar in Winter Park for the inspiration). Visit the top floor where you will find Penthouse 808, a restaurant, bar and sometimes nightclub with an open-air rooftop and climate controlled space with a retractable accordion rooftop dependant on the weather. Enjoy full breakfast, including custom omelet station, with a morning view of the skyline or dress up for upscale dining and dancing with a well-stocked bar with 360-degree views of New York City skyline. Both guests and visitors can enjoy the penthouse, which shows off artistic sushi and Pan Asian cuisine until 10 p.m., and a stylish nightclub with renowned international DJs playing the best house music.

The contemporary, loft-style room is outfitted with glass showers, hardwood floors and a freestanding soaking tub. Catch some fresh, Manhattan air on the balcony or help yourself to the in-room bar filled with top shelf liquors and gourmet snacks. The hotel features a shuttle van that will take you to nearby destinations, restaurants, bus or subway stops that can get you anywhere in Manhattan within minutes. It’s best to fly into LaGuardia airport for your Long Island City stay, and a convenient shuttle from the hotel to the airport is a mere $25, a steal after a luxury stay at either one of these unique boutiques. < Z Hotel NYC; 11-01 43rd Avenue, Long Island City, NY 11101; www.zhotelny.com; 877-256-5556 The Ravel Hotel; 8-08 Queens Plaza South, Long Island City, NY 11101; www.ravelhotel.com; 718-289-6101

Jeff Faine By: Jennifer Marcus Photo courtesy of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Read more at: StyleToMe.com

> Living the dream is just what Tampa Bay Buccaneers center Jeff Faine is doing. Not only has he had a successful 9-year run in the National Football League following a memorable term at Notre Dame, but also he is a remarkable businessman and a generous donator as the head of The Faine House. Sundays in the fall, Raymond James Stadium is where Faine calls home, as he is a key member of the Bucs offensive line, but just two and a half hours away in the small city of Sanford, is where Faine got his football start. He showed a lot of promise as a center at Seminole High School and even earned the nickname, the “Faine Train.” While many universities showed interest, Faine landed himself at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, a city with arguably the richest tradition in college football. “I can’t put into words my experiences,” said Faine. “Playing at Notre Dame is the one thing that can’t ever be replaced. Playing professional football is great, but there’s nothing like playing at Notre Dame. I wish I could go back everyday.” But don’t get him wrong. When he was drafted as the 21st pick of the 2003 NFL Draft, it was a dream come true. He spent his first three years with the Cleveland Browns and although they didn’t win many games, he says the fans were “truly great” and really “stand by you.” But it was his three-year stint with the New Orleans Saints that really made an impact on his life. Faine was part of the first team to play after Hurricane Katrina. “When I came to New Orleans, there were only two working stop lights. I watched the city come back to life.” He attributes his most meaningful NFL moment to the opening game in New Orleans after the storm. The Saints

styletome.com

people

faced the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football and ended up blowing them out of the water…but it was everything else that made the night so memorable. “It didn’t matter who we played. It was an amazing experience to see fans come back and to see the city of New Orleans come back. It was a break from their real problems and they got to enjoy a football game on that scale.” That game was a sellout, and there were another 60,000 people outside the stadium. It was an experience the city and Faine won’t ever forget. In 2008, Faine would travel back over to his home state to play for Tampa Bay. He grew up cheering for the team as a fan and it was his “dream come true” when he got to come back to Florida and play for his hometown team. “It’s a special feeling to have friends and family come over for a game.” Faine knows he is in the right place to one day finish his career. At the end of his contract, which ends in three years, Faine plans to pack up his pads, hang up his jersey, and focus on his multiple business endeavors and charity work. Some may think his departure will be premature, but Faine wants to “walk away from the game on my own terms.” He also knows how much damage the game does on the human body. It is clear Faine loves the game, but he will have plenty to shift his focus to once the game is done. Faine chose film to major in while at Notre Dame but it was the basic principles of a good work ethic, the preparation to adapt in situations and the general knowledge of how to work through problems that he learned in his basic classes. These would stick with him when he would enter into

::

his first business venture, the Barley House, which was an Irish restaurant and bar in Akron, Ohio. It was so successful that it sold the most beer in the state three years in a row. Another location opened up in downtown Cleveland and was housed in a building in which Faine also owned leading him into the direction of real estate.

When Faine isn’t in the gym, protecting Tampa Bay quarterback Jeff Freeman, or running his beaucoup of businesses, he is relaxing at home in Harbor Island.

Amongst owning businesses in Ohio, he is also part owner of a steakhouse in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, and owns a clothing store and bar in downtown Orlando. (If you’re in Orlando, go check out The Other Bar.)

“Tampa has a little something for everyone. You can go to St. Petersburg or hit the beach in Clearwater. Downtown city life is on the rise and there are a lot of different areas of the city.”

Faine loved crunching numbers and just couldn’t get enough of the business world. Whether it is in real estate, the food industry, clothing, a production company, or as an investor, Faine knows how to make things as successful as possible. And he attributes and gives credit to his “fantastic” team of workers, which help run and operate his multiple businesses.

Most people like Tampa for its beautiful beaches, pleasant weather, and exciting nightlife and restaurants…and Faine agrees.

Plus, Faine adds, “It’s a great place to play football. The fans are good supporters. I love living here.” And Tampa loves having Faine as a part of their city as well.<

But Faine says, “I was making a great living and providing a lot of jobs, but it wasn’t enough. I wanted to give back.” Faine created The Faine House, a place to house teenagers that have aged out of the foster care system. His goal is to provide the teens with life skills and the necessary tools they will need to make something of themselves and capitalize on opportunities provided to them. “We require them to be drug free, finish high school or earn a GED, and move on to further their education whether it be an AA or grad school. The sky is the limit.”

I was making a great living and providing a lot of jobs, but it wasn’t enough. I wanted to give back.

Faine’s transition home for foster teens is making a world of difference and he hopes to see it continue to grow into every NFL city.

Gary Sheffield 5-time winner of the Silver Slugger Award and is the 25th player in MLB history to reach 500 home runs!

By: Jennifer Marcus Read more at: StyleToMe.com

> Gorgeous weather, remarkable restaurants and stellar shopping are why most tourists come to Tampa. These are also the reasons why nearly 336,000 call Tampa home. One of these residents is baseball great Gary Sheffield, who dominated in major league baseball for 23 years. Retiring early in 2011, Sheffield is enjoying and living life to its fullest with his family in the place where he was born and raised. It was clear to see that Sheffield had the X factor early on when it came to baseball. His Tampa little league team placed second in the 1980 Little League World Series, one run shy of the title. He went on to win Gatorade National Player of the Year as a senior in high school and was drafted immediately by the Milwaukee Brewers as the 6th pick in the first round of the 1986 MLB Draft. Sheffield left Tampa and went on to have a successful 23-year run in MLB before returning to his home and settling down. Sheffield bounced amongst eight teams during his run, including the Milwaukee Brewers, San Diego Padres, Florida Marlins, Los Angeles Dodgers, Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers, and the New York Mets. “The Marlins were my favorite team to play for,” said Sheffield. “It’s home. Anytime you can play in the major leagues close to home, it’s special. You get to play in front of your friends and family.”

Gary Sheffield and the boys

Miami is also where he accomplished what every baseball player dreams. In 1997, he helped lead his team to become the World Series Champions and earned himself one heck of a championship ring. It

people

might seem like it was all glory, but Sheffield mentioned that the experience was “draining.” “It was draining getting to that point. There were so many ups and downs in innings and between games. And the season is so long. It was an emotional rollercoaster.” But don’t think it wasn’t worth it when that championship came. “When we won, it was an outer body experience. I couldn’t believe we got through all of it and achieved it with all the guys.” He also held the franchise record for the Marlins in home runs in a season at 42. It was slugging that Sheffield was extremely impressive. He was a 5-time winner of the Silver Slugger Award and is the 25th player in MLB history to reach 500 home runs, the first player as a New York Met. He was solid at the bat hitting at least 35 home runs for six different teams. His list of accolades goes on and on, but he should also be noted for what he does off the field. Sheffield has been very fortunate throughout his career, and it has been a passion of his to give back to the community. The Gary Sheffield Foundation will be reopening soon with several new changes. One of the main focuses has been providing scholarships to underprivileged kids. Sheffield will take about 20 testimonials at a time from children and teenagers assess their situation, and then select a recipient of the scholarship, intended to assist in education or athletics. “Kids write in about their life story.” One story Sheffield mentioned that touched him was a child who “took care of his sister and his brother, made sure his mom was fed, got straight A’s, all while going to high school.” Sheffield focuses on people in need who are trying to make something of themselves and for their families.

“never forgot where I came from and always stayed the same.” For him Tampa “provides opportunities” and “is close to Disney World, Miami, and has really nice restaurants.” “I like the simple life in Tampa.” Of course he has his family in Tampa as well. He lives with his wife DeLeon and three children, Jaden, Noah, and Christian who are all in little league football right now with guess who as a coach… Sheffield himself. He coaches because he wants to know what his kids are learning and wants to see that they are learning correctly. But coaching 28 other kids is not what he expected. “It’s different than I expected. I thought it would be like riding a bike and since I knew a lot about the game of football and baseball, I thought teaching kids would be easy. But you have to take on the responsibility of someone else’s son and the parents are relying on you.” But Coach Sheffield knows “kids have to have positive reinforcement along with criticism for a good balance.” And being there once himself, Sheffield knows that those youth years are important ones. Who knew that little Gary Sheffield, member of the 1980 Little League runner up team, would go on to become one of baseball’s most recognized and successful athletes. “There have been a lot of ups and downs in the 23 years. I have fulfilled all my dreams and got everything I could possibly get out of it. I have no regrets.”<

It was clear to see that Sheffield had the X

factor early on when it came to baseball.

He also participates in community service and events through his church, Without Walls International Church. Sheffield always knew that when he was done playing baseball, he would end up back in Tampa. He says he

The Dark Side of the Gardens - Howl-O-Scream at Busch Gardens

> It’s that time of year when the leaves start to turn, pumpkins and candy fill the stores, and everyone is in a spooktacular mood! I am referring to Halloween of course. Who wouldn’t love a holiday where an angel, devil, police officer, or a vampire can roam the street without causing anyone to blink an eye? I like to pick out my costume a good month or two in advance and sometimes even more than one. Every girl needs options, right?! As exciting as costume shopping is for me, dressing up is just a part of the fun. If you’re seeking some Halloween thrills, Tampa is filled with fun and scary Halloween celebrations that will make you laugh and scream. The city makes it easy to celebrate the favored holiday all month long. There are activities for everyone and endless choices of costumes to choose from. Even if you don’t want to get dressed up just be sure to put on a brave face and keep your friends close. You don’t know what’s lurking behind every corner… One of my personal favorites is Howl-OScream at Busch Gardens. The living dead

haunts the dark side of the gardens. For all you zombie fans out there, this haunted house is a must see. With seven haunted houses and a chills and thrills show, HowlO-Scream cannot be missed, but it’s probably not the best idea for the faint at heart. Another spine-tingling attraction is the American Victory Ship with the ghosts of the Grey Lady. If zombies don’t scare you these spirits may as you join the Tampa Ghost Watchers for a night of paranormal investigations. Think Ghost Hunters. I already have the chills just thinking about it!

will keep you on your toes. Just make sure you’re wearing comfy shoes. Tampa definitely knows how to celebrate this howling holiday. There is fun for all ages, so no matter what your Halloween celebration style, Tampa’s got some screaming, spooktacular events in store for you! < Howl-O-Scream at Busch Gardens

> “I’m sittin’ on the dock of the bay, Watching the tide roll away, Ooh, I’m just sittin’ on the dock of the bay, Wastin’ time?!” Definitely not happening here… Tampa Bay’s been abuzz with lots to be a part of this past month and looking at our calendar, it’s only getting busier. A growing city that has something for everyone to keep you entertained. We aren’t “Wastin’ time” around with lots of fitness and health related events out there this past month which included, IFBB Pro Body Builder, Mark Antonek’s, St. Pete Muscle Classic on August 27th at The Palladium. Putting yourself up on stage for everyone to judge is difficult but many Pinellas PACE Center For Girls Inc: Love That Dress Event - Photo by Michael Blitch amateurs competed in: Men’s Bodybuilding, Women’s Bodybuilding, Women’s Figure, Women’s Bikini, along with Masters (over 40 and 50) and a Teen Division. The first Team Award was given to Bradley McNeff’s Team Relentless which had 5 competitors and took home six trophies. Instead of “Watching the tide roll away” in this Bay, many came out to support the 5th Annual Macy’s Shop for Our CauseEarly Education Program also on August 27th. Since 2006, Shop for a Cause has raised more than $34 million for regional and local charities across the country. The goal this year was to raise $30,000. For purchasing a ticket, shoppers received 25% off on regular, sale and clearance merchandise throughout Macy’s stores. Proceeds went to help R.E.L. Preschool Program get the expanded space, materials and equipment needed to offer a higher quality educational program for the infants, toddlers and preschoolers. Macy’s, Inc., one of the nation’s premier retailers includes about 810 Macy’s department stores and furniture galleries in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Guam and Puerto Rico, as well as macys.com. Maroon 5, Train and Matt Nathanson didn’t allow you to be “Sittin’ here resting your bones” with the infectious rhythms generated at the 1-800-ASK-GARY Amphitheatre on August 31st. Hits such as Moves

styletome.com

Like Jagger, She Will Be Loved, Marry Me and Come On Get Higher resounding through the theatre, the packed stadium was filled with the crowd’s energy and applause. 1-800-ASK-GARY Amphitheatre (originally Ford Amphitheatre) is an outdoor concert facility located on the Florida State Fairgrounds. With a capacity of approximately 20,000, it is the largest outdoor concertonly facility in the Tampa Bay area. September 8th was the Pinellas PACE Center For Girls Inc: Love That Dress Event at the St. Petersburg Marriott Hotel where “I watch(ed) ‘em (the dresses) roll away” literally off the rack. Hundreds of donated evening dresses priced between $10 and $45 were sold raising funds to provide girls and young women an opportunity for a better future through education, counseling, training and advocacy. Conveniently located near many popular attractions, the St. Petersburg Marriott Clearwater is located just 15 min from Tampa International Airport and 5 min from St. Petersburg/Clearwater. 717 South Guest Bartender Night to Benefit Community Tampa Bay on September 9th with Ernest Hooper, journalist for the St. Petersburg Times, and Lee Mezrah, President of Mezrah Financial and 13 Ugly Men member, was enjoyable to say the least. Put two “regular” people to bartend and it gets pretty interesting with a large, fun thirsty crowd. The mission of Community Tampa Bay is to promote dialogue and respect among all cultures, religions and races by cultivating leaders to change communities. This restaurant, with its 2 sided menu, Italian to Asian, is a must for anyone who is looking forward to something special and unique. “It’s two thousand miles I roamed, Just to make this dock my home…” This is just a taste of what’s been going on in and around Tampa Bay… now that we’ve teased you a bit, visit StyleToMe.com to sign up for Tampa Style’s VIP only invite list to get event alerts before they happen. Blue-phoria

One of the Greatest Shows on Earth! By: Holly V. Kapherr Read more at: StyleToMe.com

> In 1987, Blue Man Group started as a reaction to the emerging world of technology, the information age and electronic developments and continues to be relevant through the 2000s. In 2007, the Blue Man Group set up shop in Orlando at Universal CityWalk and the Sharp AQUOS Theatre, joining their shows in New York, Chicago, Boston, Las Vegas, Tokyo and Berlin. The Blue Men, three in each show, play instruments made from PVC and have an insatiable desire to drum on anything they can find. Blue men are static in appearance, namely, the ear-less, bright blue head and face, and nondescript, black utilitarian clothing. The show’s soundtrack is a remix of pop, techno and dance that keeps audiences dancing on the edge of their seats and in the aisles. They’re the strong, silent type, though. Early in development, the three founding members decided that the Blue Men would remain in character at all times—silent, innocent and the only “autograph” they’d sign would be a smudge of blue paint or a blue kiss. Since coming to Orlando, hundreds of thousands of people have come to the theatre to see the spectacle of music, comedy, light and sound that have marked the Blue Man Group performances since its inception. Their album “Audio” was nominated for a Grammy in 1999 and their satirical rock concert, How To Be a Megastar World Tour, has toured in more than 10 countries. The performance at Orlando’s Sharp AQUOS Theatre is a truly interactive experience and the Blue Men make an effort to include the audience as much as possible. The famous “poncho zone” is in the first four rows. Audience members sitting there

are provided with ponchos in case water, paint or any other substance the Blue Men use for the show is splashed. Don’t worry, it’s all washable, but those new Prada jeans are probably not a good idea. College students are also on the Group’s radar as rush tickets are available for $30 each on the day of the show. Just show a student ID and score fab tickets, subject to availability and for a limit of two per ID. Be a Blue Man VIP for an extra $20 for allaccess to the Bluephoria Lounge. You’ll don a blue wristband, receive a $10 commemorative show program, two free alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks, and relax in comfort 45 minutes before and after the show. After the show you’ll also get to meet one of the Blue Men one-on-one for a memorable and intimate experience with these true artists. Don’t forget the “autograph,” you might just get a “blue kiss” on your forehead! Can’t make it to the Sharp AQUOS theatre at Universal CityWalk? Blue Man Group is on the big, big screen, too, in a 3D IMAX experience sure to wow. “Blue Man Group: Mind Blast” is a whole new experience to explore, and it’s full of surprises. First announced back in 2009, Blue Man Group are now featured on the Norwegian Cruise Line ship EPIC. The EPIC alternates 7-Day Eastern and Western Caribbean sailings round-trip from Miami with Blue Man Group shows nightly. Award-winning music and performance make Blue Man Group at the Sharp AQUOS Theatre fun for everyone. It’s the perfect combination of high-energy and excitement that will have everyone raving about the experience. <

Tony Keena with Sammy Hagar Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance

Stargazing By: Tony S. Keena Read more at: StyleToMe.com

> Jerry Seinfeld does it. George Lucas does it. Jay Leno does it in a big way. But then, your next-door neighbor may do it too. Buying collectable cars may not be for everyone, but for many, it can be a “bug” that inflicts a permanent bite in youth, and stays imbedded for a lifetime. The “itch” may have started with a beat up old Chevy, and it can still be there even after your third Lamborghini. As a incurable enthusiast, I’ve had the privilege of racing both Porsches and BMWs on some of the famed Grand AM and Rolex series race circuits as a hobby, so I have had the good fortune of discussing collectible cars with some of my clients, who also have been bitten by the collecting “bug” to buy classic cars because they have a passion for their beauty and history rather than just as a speculative venture.

Tony Keena

styletome.com

I tell them this: don’t start out by buying the “hot” car in the market, only to find that the market for that particular car is very limited, or has cooled to the point where buyers are few and far between. “Those starting out collecting cars need to understand that it is a relatively illiquid market. Buy what you like, and hold on to it. Many true collectors never sell; they enjoy and display their collections like fine art. Jay Leno owns many fine cars and he just enjoys the heck out of driving them.”

I have several clients who collect cars, mostly for the fun of it. I spoke to a collector recently at a show in Monterey, California who had lost substantial money in the real estate market and who had decided to “park” some money in his childhood dream car. Is car collecting only for the very affluent? Not necessarily, not if you’re a dreamer who’s always looking for that gem of a car hiding under the dusty eves of an old barn somewhere. Believe it or not, those barn treasure chest do exist. If you want to scratch the car-collecting itch, start by investing in a car that is emotionally connected to your youth. Buy it from a reputable resource, work on it, drive it and enjoy the great memories “riding shotgun.” Tony S. Drop Dead Gorgeous the new 2012 Bentley Continental GTC Read more at: StyleToMe.com

> Taking cues from its GT coupe sibling launched last year, the new Continental GTC builds on the highly successful foundation of the previous cabriolet, which premiered in 2006. Bentley’s design and engineering teams have improved virtually every aspect of the iconic convertible with an uncompromising focus on quality.

While the first Continental GTC was elegant and understated, the sharper radii and assertive stance of the new model delivers a more contemporary and muscular presence. Advanced manufacturing techniques produce aluminium front wings without the need for seams or welds creating the look and feel of a coach-built car. Twenty-inch wheels are now standard with three styles of 21-inch wheel, a first for GTC, available as an option, reinforcing the distinctive, sporting stance of the new Bentley. The four-seater luxury convertible features a new, even more spacious and sumptuous hand-crafted cabin, with soft-touch leather hides, an extensive range of wood veneers, cool-touch metals and deep-pile carpets. There are 17 standard soft-touch leather hide colours with six colour split combinations, complemented by a range of seven veneers, all produced by Bentley’s talented craftsmen and women. The GTC’s renowned coupe-like refinement is also enhanced. The tailored, multilayered fabric hood is complemented by acoustic glass and under-body panels, for optimum noise isolation.

Engine: 6 liter W12 HP: 567 hp Torque: 516 lb-ft 0-60 mph: 4.5 seconds Top Speed: 195 mph

A wider track, front and rear, sharper steering and retuned suspension provides a more exhilarating and class-leading drive. Bentley’s advanced all-wheel drive system features a new 40:60 rear torque bias (compared with 50:50 of the original GTC) minimising understeer during hard cornering and allowing the spirited driver to manage the car’s line and balance via precise throttle control. This compelling dynamic package is combined with a more powerful 6.0-litre, twin-turbocharged W12 engine as well as a new QuickShift transmission enabling faster gear changes than ever before. Power output is raised from 560PS to 575PS (567bhp/423kW) and the famed Bentley ‘wave of torque’ has been increased by a further 50Nm to 700Nm (516lb ft). “The GTC has always been the most emotional model in the Continental range and a showcase for Bentley design. With its tailored soft top, the GTC is a pure British convertible true to those classic Bentleys of the past. However, the technology, performance and overall design excellence invested in this model means that we are now writing a new chapter for the Bentley convertible driver.” Wolfgang Dürheimer, Chairman and Chief Executive, Bentley Motors. The Bentley Continental GTC is now available to order and first customer deliveries will begin in late 2011. <

Superb everyday practicality for a luxury convertible was a hallmark of the original GTC and much valued by its customers. The cabin of the new GTC is now even more practical, with additional rear legroom, new storage solutions and innovative features such as touch-screen infotainment, automatic seat-belt presenters and a Bentley-designed Neck Warmer for comfortable roof-down motoring whatever the temperature.

Stem cell treatments are a type of intervention strategy that introduces new cells into damaged tissue in order to treat disease or injury. Many medical researchers believe that stem cell treatments have the potential to change the face of human disease and alleviate suffering. The ability of stem cells to self-renew gives rise to subsequent generations with variable degrees of differentiation capacities, and offers significant potential for generation of tissues that can potentially replace diseased and damaged areas in the body, with minimal risk of rejection and side effects.

Fact vs. Fiction Breast cancer awareness month is an excellent time to refresh our knowledge about breast cancer and the importance of early detection. While genetics play an important role in the risk factor, there are other factors that can increase or decrease a woman’s risk that can be controlled. These myths and truths are short and informative to help clear up some common misconceptions. Exercise can reduce the risk of breast cancer. FACT: Physical activity will not only reduce the waistline, it will also reduce the risk of breast cancer. As little as four hours a week lowers estrogen levels and boosts the immune system. Feel encouraged to take your four-legged friend for an extra long walk, trade in your stilettos for some running shoes, or opt to take the stairs instead of the elevator. Increased stress levels have an impact on breast cancer.

FICTION: Studies have shown that while stress can lower the immune system function, there is no direct cause-and-effect relationship between stress and breast cancer. However, there is no reason to cease any much-needed de-stressing activity to relax your mind, body & soul.

any unusual symptoms or changes in your body before your yearly appointment. If changes or symptoms occur, contact your doctor immediately. For more info on how to perform a BSE visit www.nationalbreastcancer.org. Only women get breast cancer. FICTION: Breast cancer is more rare in men, but it is completely possible for them to be diagnosed with breast cancer. Men should also give themselves monthly breast self-exams. Alcohol can increase the risk of breast cancer. FACT: Unfortunately, this is not a myth. Having a drink or two every day slightly increases the risk of breast cancer. More consumption equals greater risk. Swap the wine for water, but make it a sparkling water. No need to eliminate all signs of luxury. Breast cancer is contagious. FICTION: Breast cancer is NOT contagious. It results from an uncontrolled cell growth, not a germ. Some risk factors include age, level of physical activity, obesity, birth control pill use, and a higher consumption of alcohol.

Yearly physicals are a must.

FACT: As uncomfortable as it may be, it is imperative that women should get a physical every year. It is also important that women perform a breast self-exam once a month. This practice will help you recognize

Q: Have you ever wondered what your skin actually does?

your skin as an organ, it is. In fact, it’s the body’s largest organ weighing an average of 8 pounds and covering some 22 square feet. Our skin is comprised of a complex system of cell layers, nerves, and glands that not only protect us from, but connect us to the outside world. Our skin does a lot more than make us look presentable. In fact, it has many vital functions. The skin acts as a protective barrier insulating and guarding the body against extreme temperatures, damaging rays of the sun, and harmful chemicals.. It also excretes antibacterial substances that help prevent infection and it manufactures vitamin D needed for converting calcium into healthy bones. If the skin’s protective properties stop working for any reason, this can often lead to skin disorders and the need to see a dermatologist.

Q: During the Fall and Winter my skin often gets dry and cracked. Is there anything I can do to prevent this?

A:

Moisturizing daily is key to healthy skin, especially in cooler dryer months. In the fall and winter, I do recommend switching from a moisturizing lotion to a moisturizing cream. Although lotions and creams are very similar in composition, creams tend to be more emollient and nourishing to the skin. I also suggest exfoliating once or twice a week using the Clarisonic® Exfoliating Body Brush with the Glytone® Exfoliating Body Wash. Exfoliating helps to remove dead skin cells thereby allowing for better absorption of moisturizers and other skin care products. In order to most effectively trap moisture in the skin, it is best to moisturize within 3 minutes of getting out of the shower. The product I most often recommend to my patients is CeraVe® Cream with ceramides. This product

can be purchased at most major drug stores and costs only $15. Now that’s a bargain.

Q: Is it true that Ben & Jerry’s® is

coming out with a new “anti-aging” ice cream?

A:

I bet there are a lot more people who would eat ice cream if they thought it would make them look younger. Well if that’s you, then you may just be in luck. It is true that Ben & Jerry’s® has partnered up with researchers at Ampere Life Science and Unilever to work on developing an ice cream with antiaging anti-oxidants. Antioxidants such as vitamins A, C and E have been shown to reduce cell damage, which some scientists believe may protect people against age-related diseases. Although it likely won’t be low in calories, the added benefits may make it worth the indulgence. Projected launch – 2015.

Strong & beautiful women coming together to share their story of courage: Ilka Zuijderland-Varnes, Patti Wade and Brenda Smith.

Beyond the Pink: The Beauty of Survival 3 tips for transforming bodies and spirits after breast cancer By: Cris Phillips-Georg Read more at: StyleToMe.com

styletome.com

> “It’s news that definitely takes your breath away,” says Patti Wade, 58, regarding her 2009 breast cancer diagnosis. In a moment, the stability of your world alters and everything that seemed urgent just a few moments before -- your to-do list, that spat with your spouse, what to serve for dinner -- suddenly fades into the background as a new priority takes over: “can I beat this?” With a life-threatening illness looming over your head, it can be hard to think of anything but getting well, but with early detection on the rise and improved treatment and reconstruction options available, preparing for a vibrant life after breast cancer is also an important part of recovery. “When patients first come in, most are really scared and have a hard time seeing past the immediate diagnosis. Our job is to not only get them safely through the immediate medical crisis but also to help put them back on the road to thriving, so that they can fully experience all

of the life and beauty that lies ahead.” says Dzi Newman P.A.-C. of Newman Plastic Surgery, an Orlando practice offering postcancer breast reconstruction. In supporting women along the arduous journey from here to there, plastic surgeon Dr. Charles Newman, Jr., offers these three essential tips for breast cancer recovery: Trust Your Intuition

“The response to a breast cancer diagnosis is different for every woman,” says Dr. Newman. “Some women are crying at the first consultation and others are stoically matter-of fact. Our priority is to carefully present all of the options, help our patients weigh every pro and con, and then support them in whatever decisions they feel are right for their lives and their bodies at that time.” For Ilka Zuijderland-Varnes, 47, that meant having a single mastectomy after her initial diagnosis, opting out of additional treatment (ie. chemotherapy, radiation, etc.) and forgoing reconstruction. “I wanted a period of time without my breast,” says ZuijderlandVarnes. “To experience life without it and grieve the loss. I just wanted to focus on the fact that I was healthy for awhile.” It was intuition that led to Zuijderland-Varnes’s original cancer discovery and it was intuition again that prompted her to remove her second breast two years later and undergo full reconstruction. “I had the same intuitive feeling again that I had with the first diagnosis,” Zuijderland-Varnes says. “Even though the tests were showing abnormal results, not cancerous, I just felt this was the best thing to do. My intuition was clear and I trusted that. Dr. Newman honored my intuition and supported my decisions, both to postpone reconstruction, and then, ultimately to have it. That is not common with other doctors.” Build Your Network

Another important aspect of the cancer recovery process is building a support network. “No one does this alone,” says Dzi.

“These women are incredibly strong, but it is support from those who love them that bolster these ladies up and keep them going on the hardest days.” For some women, their network consists of their spouse, children, relatives, friends, and/ or co-workers. Some turn to breast cancer support groups. For Brenda Smith, 46, the core of her network was her 21-year old daughter. “As soon as I heard my diagnosis, I immediately thought of my daughter,” says Smith. “I’m a single mom.” Smith’s daughter accompanied her on almost all her appointments. “Her support was wonderful,” says Smith “but I also wanted her to see what I went through and understand why monthly breast exams are so important.” Smith says that Dr. Newman, Dzi, and the clinic’s staff were also core parts of her support network. “Cancer is such a traumatic experience,” Smith says. “They made me feel comfortable and helped me see past my immediate diagnosis to the future. Dr. Newman reminded me how young I am still. I felt so personally cared for that I didn’t even mind the reconstruction process. I just really looked forward to visiting the office because of that support. It made all the difference.” Set Realistic Expectations

In the process of beating cancer, many women view breast reconstruction as the happy finish line, not realizing reconstruction is a process in and of itself. “Reconstruction is not the same as a breast augmentation,” says Dr. Newman. “When breasts are fully removed, we have to reconstruct from nothing. Our goal is to create optimal, natural-looking results while still helping patients understand the parameters of what’s realistically possible.” For Patti Wade, realistic expectations really helped her navigate what became a prolonged and complicated reconstruction process. “My skin wouldn’t heal because of the chemo,” says Wade. “It was frustrating and uncomfortable but my family helped me

::

through it and Dr. Newman and Dzi were so caring and empathetic. It wasn’t easy, but the reconstruction felt like a completion for me. People say I was so positive going through it. That is so nice to hear. Life is good.” Moving On

Trusting your intuition, surrounding yourself with solid support, and setting realistic expectations are all essential parts of the recovery process. “The final step,” says Dzi “is moving on.” Breast cancer becomes such an overwhelming part of a woman’s life that it can become part of her identity. Letting go and moving forward is the last leg of the journey. “It was strange when it was all done,” says Zuijderland-Varnes. “Coming in for our reconstruction appointments became such a normal part of our lives that when Dr. Newman said all was well and he’d see us in a few months, my husband said ‘So what? You’re breaking up with us?’ … The relationships we built here were that strong.” “We grow very attached to our patients,” says Dzi. “But ultimately them coming around less means cancer is no longer a part of their every day. We love when everyday concerns like a few extra laugh lines are the biggest reason they visit us. We’re happy to help with those sorts of normal worries. Although, to us, these women are already unbelievably beautiful.”<

> In today’s volatile world economy, this term has suddenly taken on new meaning to many of us, especially those who are either new entrants into the world of retirement or those planning to do so in the near term. Unfortunately, many have seen huge portions of their nest eggs disappear after years of paying their dues by ‘toiling in the fields’ and building a financial asset base. We constantly hear that Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid are all going broke and our complacency toward assuming our government would never let us down has really thrown us a curve. Bank savings interest rates are next to “0” so we can no longer look to monetary appreciation from that sector; the Stock Market has become nothing more than a roller coaster, with huge daily stock price swings testing our cardiovascular well-being. The fact is that our basic layman’s knowledge in executing our individual financial planning objective no longer holds water... Despite all that has occurred, we still need to figure a way to survive and provide for whatever future it is we have remaining and if we’re smart we will look to the experts to help us manage our finances...we just do not know enough of the many options that are out there which can be applied to our specific economic needs. We must first determine our objectives. What is it we wish to accomplish? For some, it might be funding a child’s education; others may need to address retirement planning and the security of a fixed income annuity; still others can be concerned with the ramifications of tax law as it applies to income and estate planning; higher risk takers might be seeking aggressive growth opportunities in bonds, equities and/or emerging market investments. It goes on and on. In this issue we feature a select group of professional financial planners and all are well versed and educated in every aspect of Wealth Management. Please do your homework to ensure that whomever you choose to help plan your financial future is someone with a proven track record and who will give you the personal attention required for making you feel protected and secure.<

As the managing partner, I have seen how this philosophy has served our clients well, resulting in recognition as one of the top financial services firms in Central Florida. We look to manage our client’s expectations as well as guide them consistently through this volatile environment. We accomplish this by regular communication and education with our clients. All too often, I hear from investment clients, “I only hear from my guy once a year or only when he wants to sell me something” and that is often the case. However, if you focus on keeping your clients engaged and up to date you will spend less time worrying about getting new clients because you will have maintained your existing relationships. Another unique feature is that we look to maintain a very deliberate and methodical approach to investing that has resulted in a high client retention and satisfaction while other financial firms are seeing a downturn of their client base.

> Not a day goes by that John Ledford doesn’t get asked the question, “Is now a good time to invest in the stock market?” And his answer is always the same, “Yes!” That response surprises some—what with the controversy in Washington over the debt ceiling, Standard & Poor’s downgrade of America’s prized credit rating, renewed fears about European debt, and the topsy-turvy world of the stock market—but for John the explanation is a simple one. With adversity comes opportunity. “I began my career in the investment business over 20 years ago. In that time span, we’ve entered a new century, even a new millennium and, quite frankly, it feels like it. How business was done is no longer good enough—not when the competition is stronger, money is tighter and so many of the rules have changed. At my firm, Ledford Financial, we’ve managed to not just survive turbulent times, but to also thrive.” Not an easy feat in today’s economy but accomplished, in part, thanks to John’s endless enthusiasm for new technology. Ledford Financial is one of Central Florida’s largest independent financial firms, with assets under management in excess of $125 million and growing. And none of this success could have happened had John simply been complacent with available technology. The result of this is that we have access to more information more quickly, which allows us to serve our clients more effectively and meet their needs at a higher level.” John also attributes his success to his loyal team—a group of people dedicated to giving each other and their clients the utmost in service. At Ledford Financial, they practice what they preach. Their tagline “Wall Street solutions, Main Street relationships” is one in which John and Team Ledford truly believes. He even expands on this thought in his forthcoming book, Win!: Winning Strategies from Today’s Leading Experts. Co-written with a select group of entrepreneurs from various industries, each shares successful business strategies and real-life solutions based on their own experiences as a way to help others. “I recognize that in my business I am a great front man but that I also need a solid team to help keep our clients happy. It’s a matter of knowing your strengths and guarding your weaknesses. I trust they will handle the dayto-day issues so that I can concentrate on what my clients ultimately want me to do— help make them money!”< The financial professionals of Ledford Financial are registered representatives and investment adviser representa-

“How are certain REALTORS® that specialize in luxury & commercial properties thriving in this market?” “Why do some struggle while others succeed?” Everyone is curious about what separates some REALTORS® from others and these notable agents are giving us their personal approach:

“I have based my real estate career on building long term relationships with clients and assisting them with all phases of real estate; from first time buyer to empty nester to investor! With over 20 years experience, I use the knowledge I have gained from working within many different areas of the real estate profession; from multi-family and real estate franchising, to new home construction and on site sales, to general residential and commerical sales.” ~ Maria Blanchard, 407-467-0900 mariablanchard@oldetownbrokers.com “I think it’s important to offer my clients more than the basics & surprise them by exceeding their expectations. I’ve learned to listen, anticipate and fulfill the client’s needs. It’s essential to think outside the box & be assertive in obtaining the client’s objective because this isn’t the same market. I remember that each client had a choice and they chose me to assist them in making one of the most important financial decisions of their life. I’m not here just to help them make a move, but to help them make the “right” move!”

Rob Rahter Luxury Home Specialist Read more at: StyleToMe.com

> It’s no coincidence that a former newsman was behind the biggest news in the Windermere luxury residential market in quite some time. Rob Rahter of Keller Williams Realty is a former TV news producer-turned Luxury Home Specialist. Rob just recently sold the iconic mansion at the end of Down Point Lane in Windermere. But this was not your normal sale. The estate which was once listed for almost $15 million dollars went to auction after hundreds of people toured the mansion in month long pre-auction marketing blitz. But when the buyer failed to perform, a replacement buyer was secured in less than two weeks. The high profile transaction attracted worldwide attention and successfully cemented Rob’s place in the market as the luxury real estate agent who gets the job done. AVAILABLE NOW!

The auction option is not for everyone and may not be for the faint of heart, but it is becoming an increasing effective tool top agents like Rob Rahter are using to stand apart in this highly competitive real estate market. But this doesn’t mean Rob sacrifices any of the traditional methods to produce a quick sale. Rob knows that nearly all home buyers and sellers utilize the internet in the process so he invests heavily in his internet presence. Rob “owns” the top listing position for Windermere on the world’s #1 real estate website which delivers an estimated 500% more views for his listings than other agents. He is also a Featured Agent and owns multiple website addresses, including RobSellsWindermere.com, RobSellsOrlando.com, MyOrlandoLuxuryHomes.com, and numerous neighborhood-specific domains. Rob is especially proud of the fact that he was the first Windermere-resident member of the exclusive Luxury Homes by Keller

Williams, an elite group of specially-trained luxury agents within the company. This group consists of only about 600 agents worldwide who meet a couple times a year for networking, exchanging of ideas, and to attend seminars aimed at better serving their specific clientele. Being able to market properties directly to agents from outside our area and who are actively working with qualified buyers gives Rob a tremendous advantage over the smaller boutique brokerages. Studies show 82% of home sales are the direct result of agent connections, so if you’re ready to sell and think your agent and their connections do not matter, think again. Rob spent 15 years in television news and knows the power of marketing and advertising. Rob knows that selling luxury homes is about selling a lifestyle over a need. And while any REALTOR® can list a home, it takes special skills to sell with success – not just in the luxury market but in every price point. Now more than ever you need an agent who gives your home the distinctive edge to command the right attention and stand apart from the competition. As evidenced by the auction, Rob utilizes every possible sales method to deliver what the client wants. And while an auction may not be right for everyone, there’s no denying that it works. Rob also serves in a board of director’s-type leadership position at the Keller Williams Classic office, located across the street from Universal Orlando, and often teaches classes for new agents. Rob and his wife, Elizabeth, an attorney, have four children and live in Windermere. They are very involved in the local community and own rental properties and other businesses. They like to spend their family time boating on the Butler Chain of Lakes. <

Don‘t Miss the beat

> Armando Christian Perez, better known by his stage name Pitbull, is a rapper who has demonstrated determination and integrity aren’t all lost tools in the music industry. Stated by critics and fans alike to have the summer 2011 anthem and hit song “Give Me Everything Tonight” which features Neyo, Afrojack and Nayer, this song alone has created many opportunities to reach a new fan base. There’s something truly enthralling about this blue-eyed, Cuban artist who possesses an undeniable skill to pump up any crowd and turn heads wearing his on point gentlemanly wardrobe. With all the hype surrounding him, Pitbull knows his reign, as summer king is only a temporary title; to some extent king of the world is already his. Being in the business for a few years now, Pitbull is a steady household name. With appearances on all the late night haunts like Jimmy Kimmel, Conan, Lopez Tonight, and even performances on Dancing with the Stars and The Voice this past season, viewers and listeners are both intrigued and eager to get up and dance. With his most recent album released in June, Planet Pit, has already been reviewed as “a greatest hits album in its own.” Rave reviews, dedicated fans, and new admirers are all praising the musical genius that is Armando Perez.

A true appeal to this rapper is much like his hit summer song says: he took his life from a negative to positive. Raised in Miami to parents who were immigrants from Cuba, his father taught him the power of words and had a young Armando recite poetry for emphasis of this lesson. Once his parents divorced he saw his father little and the relationship was strained. Fortunately his father’s most valuable lesson was passed on already. Despite a few random run-ins with poor decisions as a teenager and ultimately being kicked out by his mother for those choices, Pitbull decided he wasn’t going to let that be his story. After high school he started hanging out in clubs looking for every opportunity to show everyone his capabilities. The moment came when a chance meeting with rapper Lil Jon happened one of those nights and Pit was asked to appear on Lil Jon’s 2002 album. From there four albums of his own have been born and the performer Pitbull has the world staring with anticipation.

Don‘t Miss the beat

When Pit started out an additional nickname of his was Mr. 305, for the area code of his home. With the June release of “Planet Pit he can be heard referring to himself as Mr. Worldwide, which demonstrates how far the artist has come. Pitbull isn’t saying he runs the world, he’s too humble a person, but rather he feels he has created a world that is merely his very own. This album demonstrates the maturity as an artist Pit has reached and emphasizes his thoughts that good, humble people will survive in this ever shrinking music business. He has said several times he’d rather speak to the globe instead of just the block, knowing this is where credibility originates. Back to the concept his father taught him, Pitbull handles even sticky situations with ease and knows just what to say when so many others might use the “no comment crutch. Due to a lyric in “Give Me Everything Tonight the rapper states he’s “got it locked up like Lindsay Lohan and he is fac-

ing some heat from the actress that she followed up with a lawsuit. When questioned in an interview about this news topic Pitbull simply stated there was a misunderstanding in the perception and asked Lindsay to be his date to the Video Music Awards and they could sort out the issue. Not shying away or hiding behind publicists is another attribute Pit holds unlike many peers.

recognition for his hard work is more than apparent. Earning a key to his hometown city of Miami for the wonderful and positive publicity he has generated for Florida’s nightlife capital has been an extreme honor. Pitbull has spoken, stood behind what he says and created an imprint in music that is ever growing. Worldwide success is evident. Actually make that Mr. Worldwide.

Despite earning the right to call himself Mr. Worldwide at this time, Pitbull doesn’t seem to let much go to his head. Regardless of the numerous Social Medias dedicated to the rapper such as his own I Pad application, mobile apps where new music, news and connecting with Pit himself can all be attained, he remains grounded. Known for his impressive style of dress as well, this global sensation is the first to say he still shops clearance and enjoys bargains as much as he always has. With quite a few nominations between the Teen Choice Awards, the VMA’s and the Alma Awards this year, the

Orlando can prepare to watch this energetic and sizzling artist Pitbull when he accompanies good friend Enrique Iglesias to the Amway Arena on October 21. Their performance will be the second to last for Enrique’s tour and will be the definition of a fierce concert experience. Pitbull believes in the union music offers people and plans to prove it in Orlando’s very own back yard. Don’t miss out on the fiery and exciting chance to feel the heat of this hot performance.<

The disturbing aspect of this law is that it makes a criminal out of

“There’s a surprise on every page!”

Helping You Live The Luxury Lifestyle

If a person decides to deposit $12,000.00 in the bank, by making two separate deposits of $6,000.00 so that a CTR is not prepared, a crime has been committed. That crime is called Structuring to Avoid a CTR. It makes no difference that the person is a law abiding citizen nor does it matter that the money was legally earned. The crime is a felony punishable by up to 5 years in prison. The government can also forfeit (that is take) $12,000.00 from the citizen.

Works Hard … Plays Harder imparts practical advice, helpful tips, and outstanding resources to those just starting out in business, as well as to seasoned professionals. While written for real estate agents, it’s designed to motivate, inspire, and educate entrepreneurs in every type of business. Words of wisdom are given through the use of humor and southern charm. Readers will be laughing one minute and shouting “aha” the next! Over a ten year period, Dana has set herself apart as a leader in luxury real estate. She is the co-owner of Celebration Rental Group in Celebration, Florida

and recently sold the company she took to the #1 position in Central Florida for CENTURY 21 — during the most challenging real estate market in decades. Under her leadership and guidance, CENTURY 21 Premium Properties became a Centurion Office, an esteemed position within C21. Dana has earned a National presence within the real estate industry because of her accomplishments. She is often contacted by The Associated Press for updates on the Central Florida real estate market. After being approached by many local real estate agents asking for guidance on how they can excel in the same manner as Dana, she decided to write a book to help agents, and other entrepreneurs, all over the world.

best friends

> Independence, confidence, joy, love, comfort, and hope--these are just a few of the words that Canine Companions for Independence graduates use to describe what their assistance dog means to them. For 13 year-old Hailee Albury, of Orlando, the word companionship is what she uses to describe Rane, a yellow Labrador/Golden Retriever cross, that she was matched with at the Southeast Region of Canine Companions in May of 2008.

Hailee and Becky Albury with Rane.

Friends Who Make a Difference Read more at: StyleToMe.com

When Hailee was born she showed no signs of life for 26 minutes until doctors were finally able to get a pulse. As a result Hailee was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and has faced challenges every day doing things that others take for granted. For a child, being different can be a curse, and as Hailee grew older her sense of isolation was heightened by people’s reluctance to approach a young girl with disabilities. Her mother, Becky, knew that having an assistance dog would help Hailee meet people, make her more approachable, would help her pick up dropped items around the house, and most importantly, would become her best friend. So they applied for an assistance dog, spent two weeks in class learning how to handle a dog and pass a rigorous exam and then began their new journey together with Rane. The Tales & Tails Gala is the Southeast Region’s annual event to raise awareness and philanthropic support to breed, raise, train and place these highly trained assistance dogs, free of charge, for adults and children with disabilities. This event is the region’s single largest fundraiser and last year’s event raised more than $280,000. The 2011 event will be held on Saturday, November 12th at the Rosen Shingle Creek and includes a silent and live auction and a reception and program featuring animals from local professional animal trainer Joel Slaven. The dinner program features powerful presentations from two Canine Companions’ graduates who will tell their courageous stories and will describe how their assistance dogs have provided them with joy, friendship and independence. For gala ticket and sponsorship information, please visit www.cci.org/talesandtailsgala or call 407 522-3300. The Southeast Regional Center opened on Independence Day, July 4, 2000, and has provided more than 300 assistance dogs for adults and children with disabilities and has more than 300 volunteer puppy raisers. The campus is situated on 8-acres in west Orange County and consists of four buildings with a total of 32,000 square feet and is a state-of-theart facility where training, education and caring come together. <

The conversation starter. And ender. Chosen by Car and Driver as the best luxury sedan in the recent comparison test.* There’s much to talk about when you build a sedan that’s been getting the kind of attention the A8 has. Is it because of its revolutionary aluminum Audi Space Frame (ASF®) and the resulting leap in performance and efficiency?** Or is it because of the intuitive handwriting recognition technology of its MMI® system? Or maybe it’s the LED headlights — so vibrantly clear, they are the closest re-creation to daylight yet?† Or is it the combination of everything together? Whatever the case, it’s clear the conversation is over. See how at audiusa.com/A8. The Audi A8 is here.

Luxury has progressed.
