In the Netherlands alone, more than 250 million kilograms of coffee grounds are left over after making coffee. Historically, most of this waste ended up in an incinerator. Now, these coffee grounds are being used as the perfect raw material for making a sustainable alternative to plastic. Coffee grounds are now collected from cafes and restaurants and dried at special locations ready to be used again. That is why these bottles are collected and recycled (RPET) to serve as raw materials for a huge number of products. It is a great alternative to using virgin plastic. There are many materials that are recycled and given a second life. For example, old clothing and textiles in combination with RPET become the basis of RPET felt. New cotton material can now be produced by recycling waste product from the textile industry (pre-consumer) or from discarded consumer textiles (post-consumer). This organic dishcloth is made from 70% cellulose and 30% cotton waste. Cellulose is the most abundant organic polymer on Earth and is an integral part of the cell walls of plants and many algae species. Cellulose is mainly used for paper production. The cotton waste consists of cotton fibres that are too short to be used in the textile industry. This is an ideal and durable replacement for the everyday dishcloth, which will often use plastic in its production. The Bio Dishcloth can be washed using a temperature of up to 90 degrees and can be reused hundreds of times. When the dishcloth needs to be replaced, it can be thrown in to your organic waste bin. A BINDING AGENT CELLULOSE

The emerging bio-based economy will see an increase in the use of raw materials from plant-based products. Another word for cellulose is wood pulp. Cellulose occurs in both cotton and wood and is used as a binding agent for paper, textiles and glue. It has an adhesive effect, is biodegradable and therefore environmentally friendly. CORN WASTE

AN ORGANICALLY RESPONSIBLE PROMOTION

Corn is a fast-growing crop. After harvesting the primary crop, maize, leaves and stems remain as a residual product. Historically, this waste product would have been incinerated. With new production methods, this waste is now used as a raw material for sustainable and environmentally friendly products. The starch from the fast-growing maize plant serves as the basis for bio-plastic, also known as PLA. It is 100% biodegradable, 100% industrially compostable and CO2 neutral. With products that basically consist of corn, you are investing in a strong eco-gift.

The Dutch company Vodde, reuses discarded textiles to make new products. Vodde makes its yarn from cotton collected by local ‘rag farmers’ and from cutting waste from textile production in European countries where Vodde makes its own products. In addition, polyesters derived from PET bottles, nylon, fishing nets and other collected waste are also used.
