Since its launch as a quarterly publication in 2011, the Almanac has become a go-to reference, offering a snapshot of over 500 current and planned domestic and international cable systems. BIOGRAPHIES Kieran Clark, Senior Analyst Kieran Clark is the Senior Analyst for Submarine Telecoms

Forum, Inc. He originally joined the company in 2013 as a Broadcast Technician to provide support for live event video

streaming. He has 8+ years of live production experience and has worked alongside some of the premier organizations in video web streaming. In 2014, Kieran was promoted to

Analyst and is currently responsible for the research and

maintenance that supports the SubTel Forum Submarine Cable Database and Online Map. In 2016, he was promoted

to Lead Analyst and then Senior Analyst in 2023. His analysis is featured in almost the entire array of SubTel Forum Publications.

Syeda Humera, Junior Analyst Syeda Humera, a graduate from JNTUH and Central Michigan

University, holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and

Communication Science and a Master’s degree in Computer Science. She has practical experience as a Software Developer at ALM Software Solutions, India, where she honed her skills in

MLflow, JavaScript, GCP, Docker, DevOps, and more. Her

expertise includes Data Visualization, Scikit-Learn, Databases, Ansible, Data Analytics, AI, and Programming. Having completed her Master’s degree, Humera is now poised to

BIOGRAPHIES Kristian Nielsen, Vice President Kristian Nielsen has over 13 years of publishing and

management experience and has been working for Submarine

Telecoms Forum since 2008 as Business Manager. In 2013, he was promoted to Vice President and is responsible for all

SubTel Forum product roll-out, sales strategy, administration

and management. Under his direction, Submarine Telecoms Forum’s readership has grown from less than 4,000 bi-monthly readers, to over 100,000 every month. He literally grew up in

the business since his first ‘romp’ on a BTM cable ship in

Southampton at age 5. Professionally, he has supported various international telecoms projects with accounting

administration and is the originator of many of SubTel Forum’s current products and services.

METHODOLOGY This edition of the Submarine Telecoms Cable Almanac was meticulously crafted by the analysts at Submarine Telecoms Forum, Inc. Our methodology combines interviews with industry leaders and our proprietary Submarine Cable Database, which tracks over 500 current and planned cable systems. Queries can be made by client, year, project, region, system length, capacity, landing points, and more. The Submarine Cable Database is maintained by a dedicated team and powered by MySQL. Maps are produced with ArcGIS Pro, maintaining the same visual style as the Submarine Cables of the World print map. To compile this report, SubTel Forum engaged in continuous data gathering throughout the year, sourcing information from public, commercial, and scientific sources. Data assimilation was conducted in parallel with data gathering efforts to provide accurate market projections. Trending is accomplished using known data, with linear growth estimates for subsequent years. Regarding system cost, we use publicly announced information when available. If not, we apply a standardized formula of $75,000 USD per kilometer of cable, providing a rough estimate based on industry averages. In this issue, systems were grouped by submarine cable owner. Owners with eight or more systems in our database, representing the 95th percentile of ownership (both planned and in service), were specifically highlighted. While every care is taken in the preparation of this report, these are our best estimates based on the information provided and discussed within the industry.

Below is a list of defined acronyms and terminology used in this document: Capacity per Wavelength (Gbps) – The capacity of individual wavelengths, expressed in gigabits per second.

Design Capacity (Tbps) – The maximum capacity available on a cable system, expressed in

terabits per second.

EOS (End of Service) – The year a cable system is expected to reach the end of its operational life.

Fiber Pairs – The number of fiber pairs contained within the cable system. Landing Points – The specific cities where a cable system makes landfall.

Length (km) – The total length of the cable system, measured in kilometers.

Owners – The names of all companies reported as having ownership stakes in the cable system.

Region – The specific region (Americas, AustralAsia, EMEA, Indian Ocean Pan-East Asian, Transatlantic, Transpacific) in which the cable system is located.

RFS (Ready for Service) – The year a cable system became operational and entered

service.

System Cost (USD) – The total cost of the cable system project, denominated in US dollars. System Installer – The names of all companies reported as responsible for

installing the cable system.

System Supplier – The names of all companies reported as suppliers of the cable system.

Wavelengths per Fiber Pairs – The number of wavelengths or channels available on a

single fiber pair.
