reasons to back Business Improvement District www.successfulsutton.co.uk We pledge to...

We will organise and co-ordinate a calendar of events and a range of markets to drive footfall into the town centre.

We will create a pleasant, welcoming and attractive environment for all those who visit the town centre with street trees, hanging baskets and containerised planting throughout.

We will supply businesses and potential investors with useful data on the town centre’s performance including footfall figures and dwell time.

We will realise cost savings directly to the businesses through collective purchasing and joint procurement of trade waste collections and recycling initiatives.

We will attract funding from other sources to enhance the levy provided by the businesses.

We will improve safety and security for those who live, work, visit and shop in the town, increasing the take up of safety initiatives such as the radio scheme, pub watch, shop watch and street pastors. We will represent the business community, ensuring we have a voice on the future direction of the High Street and development of the area.

We will ensure that all the services provided by Successful Sutton are additional to those paid for through business rates.

Why we’re backing Successful Sutton

Hotspot deep clean There are some areas along the High Street, such as alleyways, which attract litter and large amounts of commercial waste. Town centre businesses will be joining together to clean up litter on areas of private land which the local authority doesn’t have the contract for. These areas will be given a special deep clean to demonstrate the difference a clean town centre can make.

The BID will be funded by a small levy, for example, one per cent of the rateable value, on eligible businesses located within the BID area. This levy will be applied to businesses with a rateable value over £10,000. It means that Successful Sutton will be able to invest up to £2m in the town over the next five years.

Delivering Value – increased buying power through joining forces will enable businesses to reduce costs through collective purchasing of goods and services such as trade waste, or the services of a handyman for all those small DIY jobs. Joining together will also provide increased clout to attract funding from other sources and enhance the levy businesses provide.

Our BID will encourage people to come to Sutton town centre both to shop and to invest in new businesses. BIDs are about improving town centres; your YES vote will help us to realise this in Sutton. Our neighbours, Croydon, Wimbledon and Kingston all have successful BIDs working hard to attract and increase their level of footfall as well as hosting a range of other initiatives. As Sutton businesses we should take advantage of this opportunity too.

Successful Sutton BID

From talking and working with businesses over the past months we have identified a whole range of initiatives to create a more ‘Successful Sutton’ under the following themes:

STA YTO N

M

The Successful Sutton Steering Group is made up of local town centre businesses, and our aim is to ensure that Sutton town centre unlocks its full potential as a successful, vibrant, safe and prosperous location. We believe that the best way to achieve this is through the establishment of a Business Improvement District (BID).

B2 79

Footfall cameras A set of footfall cameras will be installed in the High Street so that you can see the positive impact of, for example, events in the town centre on your business. Their effectiveness in tracking footfall is also a vital tool for attracting inward investment into the town, and the data can be used as leverage to obtain other information in exchange from organisations such as TfL.
