Professional Growth: Never Too Young or Old

By: Meryl R. Alfanta

Never think you are too young or too old to do something or anything for the matter of growing professionally. Age is just a number. With your skill, knowledge, determination, time and with God, everything is possible.

In the teaching perspective, learning doesn’t age. We keep on learning even beyond retirement. If you are new to the teaching position, strive while still young. If you age enough in the position without promotion, then you are never too old for a new goal in life. Our age is not the basis of getting our promotion, it is our mind set. Amidst our busy schedule in school plus our responsibility at home and considering our financial status we need to have an open mind to think for our growth. Let’s not bother ourselves of the time in the past. What matters is your big decision now. Sometimes there are wasteful thoughts that trigger us to make steps forward. Let’s not be prisoned of the things in the past. Time is money so we should savour every day to the fullest no matter if you’re a new teacher or nearing to retirement. Age must not stop us from growing professionally or experience new things. You get to decide when to start moving and start something new. It’s up to you to take the steps towards your journey for promotion. Focus on your career and don’t bother with everyone else is doing. Be open-minded and have friends of all ages. Their acquaintances and experiences will motivate and help you keep an open mind about yours. Start making a big decision for your career and for your family. Promotion comes with your strength to work for it. Go and start exploring your potentials. Don’t be afraid to strive for your goals and make sure you are happy and fulfilled. Your inspiration to go forward makes you alive and keeps you going and not your age. It’s never too late to revamp yourself for a smart goal.
