First I brainstorm what I can do for this project. I list everything I can think of, even it’s not possible to make in this amount of time. This process is to get a rough idea what will I do. Digital Editing is very broad topic which consist a very wide range of animations techniques, creativity and design.

I finally choose infographic because it is the best way for which I can express my artistic skill. Infographic turns boring data into interactive information, allowing it to bring out different dimensions from descriptive information to visual communication. For example, infographic can easily grabs people’s attention by its animation and moving texts. Furthermore, infographic is proved to be more and more important in everyday’s life. Thus it is crucial for me to acquire this knowledge. Random sound Sound Effects

NARRATIVE Gender

Narrative is also an important role in animation because it makes the video looks more interesting and it gives feeling and emotion to audiences. Videos without music or any sound are like unfinished pieces of work. Hence, I try to think of potential music piece which could be used in my animation.

Moreover, I look for the concept that I will use in my infographic. My animation should be fun as well as giving some facts. It should communicate the information clearly, making it easy to understand and what is importantly it has to draw the attention of the audiences.
CONCEPTS
After having a concept, I search for information which I can use it for my infographic video. I look around and find some interesting data. One is about ‘Rules of A Lady’ and another one is about ‘How to Work Better’. I found both data from Tumblr.
CONCEPTS However, that datas are someone else’s information and have copyrights already. Therefore, I change my mind from using somebody’s text & information to creating my own one instead. I try to think what topics will be fun as well as giving out facts. So, I brainstorm again Safety Country

I choose ‘SCHOOL’ to be my topic because I can relate it to my real life and what I am doing right now. This is my title for my animation: “Things you must do before finish an art school” After I got the title, I list everything that can be related to this topic. Then I cross out the ones I do not want because of the limitation of time I could not do all in 1 - 2 weeks. 01. Make Friends 02. Know How To Draw 03. Think faster 04. Long hair and Grow a beard 05. COLOUR TONE
COLOUR TONE
I will pastel & bright colours in my animation because I want my animation to be colourful and to be able to draw people’s attention. I choose this colour tone because these colours are not too bright and not too pale. Therefore, it will be stood out as a text or titles in my animation. For my background, I choose lighter and darker colour tones comparing to the text tone.

REFERENCES MAKE IT BETTER BY CLIM URL: http://vimeo.com/18678091
Clim introduced the viewers with simple font, then the font starts to be more and more complicated. As the title of this animation ‘MAKE IT BETTER’, Clim is trying to make the word/text looks better by changing its one by one to see which suits best. The sound effects adnd the background music enhance the visual part of the video perfectly.
FLASH TUTORIAL/ INTERAC BY TENDRIL URL: http://vimeo.com/29684670
Instead of a human talks, in this animation the wallet talks. The wallet is the main character in this animation which it tells the information of an interac-card. I also like how the wallet talks about his feeling when being used by humans.
REFERENCES UNLUCK BY YANIV FRIDMAN URL: http://vimeo.com/20351423
I like the colours and the movement in this animation. It is made from C4D and it is kind of an experiment from Yaniv Fridman. Although, I will not use 3D in my project, I like the wrappings and the lined-sphere.
ALPHABET BY PAVEL PAVLOV URL: http://vimeo.com/13083500
I like the idea of continuous alphabets in this video. The lines are all connected and smoothly animated. Although the lines are thin, some shapes and thick strokes are added to make the animation looks interesting and to make use of the blank space of the background.
REFERENCES THE ALPHABET BY N9VE URL: http://vimeo.com/18499580
This animation is interesting because the creator used different types of fonts to create this animation. Also, it’s so smooth when each letter changes to another. I like the concept which is each letter represents one font type that has the same beginning letter.
“COPY” OFFICIAL VIDEOCLIP BY YASUDATAKAHIRO URL: http://vimeo.com/17902560
From this video, I like the way that yasadatakahiro repeats everything like a copy machine. I think that the video’s owner use repeater in after effects to create this video. Although there is only 2 colours in the animation, it looks good with this colour combination.
REFERENCES 29 WAYS TO STAY CREATIVE BY TO-FU URL: http://vimeo.com/24302498
First of all, the title of this video makes me click the play button. I watched it until the end and while watching I also think about the info from the video. The graphic and the typography are well combined. The choice of colours is nice and easy to read.
HOW TO FEED THE WORLD ? BY DENIS VAN WAEREBEKE URL: http://vimeo.com/8812686
This is an informative video but it’s not boring watching it as it is colourful and well animated. It used textures and vectors in this animation. The video’s owner had done a good job as well as he summarised lots of information to shorter one in this video. Moreover, it is understandable.
REFERENCES TO DO LIST BY YANIV FRIDMAN URL: http://vimeo.com/37062018
This video amazed me by its extraordinary animation, typography, motion graphics and etc. It combines 2D and 3D together beautifully. The animation is so smooth because each scene is well planned and connected nicely so it’s enjoyable while watching this animation. I also like the colours and the miscellaneous font types. The sound effects is matching satisfactorily with the animation. It is exciting to guess what will come next as well during watching it. I’m inspired by this animation and wish that one day I could make one like this.
PRIUS V - CRATES OF FIDDLEHEADS BY YANIV FRIDMAN URL: http://vimeo.com/29870160
This is the advertisement of Prius V. This animation is the same animator as ‘TO DO LIST’, who I found his/her/their work really stylish and fascinating to watch. I like the compositions and how Yaniv animates even small things on the background so the video doesn’t look too still. Moreover, this animation is not only have one camera angle, it has side view, perspective view and top view. Lastly, I love how the graphic cars is transforming into a real car.
REFERENCES READER BY MARCUS ECKERT URL: http://vimeo.com/27194571
The advertising video illustrates the changing function of magazine. This message has been presented clearly though the visual imagery of the video. The motion pictures and objects increase the level of understanding of the audience by reduce the difficulty of interpreting. The audio is also catchy making it more interesting for the audience. Nevertheless, the downside of this video is that it may contain too much motions and the video moving too fast making it harder to understand it for the first time.
RESPUBLIKA. MOTION GRAPHICS BY CJ BASIE URL: http://vimeo.com/27527580
This video contains a very visual and audio stimulating elements. The motion graphic in this video has brought out a very clear theme. The sound that it uses also greatly enhance the motion graphic being presented. It composes of a various types of common sounds that we hear everyday and putting it together making a harmonious audio for this particular video.
REFERENCES OFF THE WALL BY HOT SHIT URL: http://vimeo.com/37244376
This video is quite low in quality because it’s quite blur. But that is acceptable as the idea in this video is absorbing because it uses mirror effect to create this video. I like when it forms a word and a face.
JOE JONAS - “SEE NO MORE” LYRIC VIDEO URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwwzjg6NRJ8
Although, this is not an animation or (maybe) involved computer graphics, I like the way it was edited. Some parts of the video is stop motion of words/texts.
REFERENCES KATY PERRY - PART OF ME (LYRIC VIDEO) URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Fko7_SV3Lc
Even though, this is just a lyric video, I like how it is animated. There are many effects within this animation such as glowing, sparkling and shadow. Also, the font is newly created for this typography video too. I like how the font A is a stripe and some alphabets have a bite at their edges. The camera angles, flipping, rotating, and positioning are greatly done. Although there is repetition of chorus, it is still nice seeing that scene again.
BBC KNOWLEDGE 60 BY IAMRADER URL: http://vimeo.com/24263213
I like the animation and graphic in this animation because it’s cute and adorable. The motion is nicely done as same as the colour tone is satisfactorily chosen too. BCC puts little details in the graphic too for instance the sun heat around the sun.
REFERENCES THE WORLD IS OBSESSED WITH FACEBOOK BY ALEX TRIMPE URL: http://vimeo.com/20198465
This infographic is interesting as I am one of the facebook users. While I was watching I try to imagine whether it is right or wrong or am I one of those who are obsessed with facebook because nowadays facebook becomes a part of my daily life and most of city people too. Therefore, this animation reflects many people’s lives.
WHAT WE LEARNED BY LEGWORK URL: http://vimeo.com/17876788
I like the changing of typography at the beginning a lot and the colours as well because it is cute and chic. I also like that in this animation does not have only vector images, it also has raster images which blend harmoniously with vectors.
REFERENCES THE VALUE OF DATA VISUALIZATION BY COLUMN FIVE URL: http://vimeo.com/29684853
This video gives more ideas about the information graphics and how can we analyse data and how to arrange it to be stand out. I like the narrative’s voice and the background music because it is easy to understand and harmonious.
REFERENCES Rather than looking at videos only I also look through images from the Internet to get inspiration of how I will arrange the information. The layout is different from the moving data because it has limited space and only one scene compare to the animated one. All the information required must fit in one page therefore it is critical to make use of space and illustrate all the information neatly and completely. Design must be added to the layout as well so it would not be too boring to look at the information. Nevertheless, the design must not over shadow the information that the poster is trying to get across.
EXPERIMENTS
I skim through tutorials from www.ae.tutsplus.com and I find some interesting tutorials which will be useful for my projects. One of those is ‘Funky Animations With CC Circle and Radio Waves’. Hence, I follow the instructions however, the tutorial is not very clear. I cannot do some steps. So I, by myself, explore the effects and finish 50% of the tutorial.
EXPERIMENTS I then try out this effect with possible scene in my animation. I change the circles into stars. According to my storyboard, point number 5 is ‘Overnighters’ and there would be plenty of stars in it. Therefore, this effect would fit in this scene. It would make my life easier as well because I do not need to animate each little stars one by one. The stars will be randomly flew out from the centre.
EXPERIMENTS
I want to synchronise sound with shapes, so I try this effect which is called ‘Audio Spectrum’. I test it by changing colour, frequency, thickness and softness. The audio can be displayed both digital and analog.
