She advises to set aside‬‬ ‫‪200 calories a day for something sweet and you’ll be able‬‬ ‫‪to lose the weight without completely cutting out sugar.‬‬ ‫‪As we know, different foods are digested at different‬‬ ‫‪rates, and so desserts should be portion-controlled and‬‬ ‫‪high in nutrients to keep you fuller for longer. “Make sure‬‬ ‫‪your guilty pleasures are high-fibre carbohydrates, include‬‬ ‫‪proteins and a very small amount of fat.” states Sabine.‬‬ ‫‪These don’t need to be fruits, but make sure to watch‬‬ ‫‪your portion sizes and listen to cravings.‬‬

Melt a single serving of dark chocolate chips in a microwave-friendly bowl and then mix with three cups of air popped popcorn, shake in the bag. “Air popped popcorn has about 31 calories per cup, and is naturally high in fibre keeping you fuller for longer.” Sabine explains. You can add a sprinkle of cayenne powder; great for burning fat and suppressing appetites. 3. Greek Yoghurt Banana Split There is nothing better than something cold and crunchy. All you need are diced strawberries, pineapples, and bananas, crushed granola, and vanilla flavored Greek yoghurt. Put some Greek yoghurt in a cup, add granola then fruits as the top layer, place more yoghurt, and garnish with cherries, sprinkles, or even dark chocolate shavings. “Substituting vanilla Greek yoghurt instead of ice cream makes a huge difference in both calories and taste…and it’s an excellent source of probiotics!” says Sabine. Probiotics are amazing for your digestive tract. They are loaded with microorganisms like bacteria and yeast that aid in digestion and thus overall metabolism.

4. Almond Coconut Sorbet Homemade sorbet is an excellent way to get your sugar fix. “When you make desserts, you’re able to control what goes into them as well as alter different ingredients to fit your taste and preference.” Mix coconut milk and coconut cream in a blender on high until smooth and then slowly add water. Place your mixture in a freezer for about two hours. When it is thick enough to mix, gently fold in diced almonds, coconuts, and dark chocolate chips. Make sure not to let them sink to the bottom of your mixture. Cover and let sit in the freezer overnight. “This sorbet is an amazing source for a huge range of vitamins like C, E, B1, B3, B5 and B6 and minerals including iron, selenium, sodium, calcium, magnesium and phosphorous,” explains Sabine. Almonds are a great source of fibre so you’ll feel fuller for longer. Also, since they are so low in calories, they are excellent snack for those trying to lose weight. There is always room for dessert when you know your limits and can control portion sizes. There is no reason why you can’t diet and enjoy sweet snacks daily. Leading a healthy lifestyle is all about balance. Depriving your body of sugar does more harm than good and more often than not results in overindulging. Listen to your body and know your limits!

1/2 cup butter 50% light & unsalted 1 large egg 2 tbsp stevia or as desired 1/2 cup almond syrup (bezan, thadi) 1/2 cup white flour 1/2 tbsp baking powder 1/4 cup almond, roasted and crushed 1/4 tbsp cardamom powder THE CREAM CHEESE FROSTING

1/2 cup low fat cream cheese 1/4 cup butter 50% light & unsalted 2 1/2 tbsp sugar powder 1 tbsp stevia or as desired 1/4 tsp vanilla essence 1 1/2 tbsp rose water 1/8 tsp blossom water 1 tbsp natural red color (boiled hibiscus flour) GARNISH

1 tbsp dry rose petals DIRECTIONS CAKE MIXTURE

Mix flour and the baking powder then sift and keep aside. Add the crushed almond and cardamom powder then mix with a spoon and keep aside. Beat butter, sugar and vanilla in a cake mixer on high speed until creamy. Reduce the speed to low then add the egg. Add the flour gradually to the egg mixture and mix carefully with a spatula. Add the bezan syrup then mix and pour the cake batter into the oil greased cake mould. Bake the cake in the oven at170 C for 25 minutes or until the cake is done. THE CREAM CHEESE FROSTING

Beat the butter, sugar and cream cheese in a cake mixer on high speed until creamy. Add vanilla, rose water, blossom water and the natural food color (hibiscus concentrate).

DIRECTIONS For the lemon curd, in a bowl whisk all eggs together and set aside. Place the butter in a medium bowl over a sauce pan of simmering water. 3 - Once the butter is melted, whisk in the sugar, salt, zest, and lemon juice until fully incorporated. Slowly whisk the egg mixture into the bowl until it thickens into a curd and reaches a temperature of 178F. Transfer the curd to a bowl and cover with cling film, allow to cool in a refrigerator for at least 4 hours Pre heat the oven to 400F for the pie crust. Mix all the crust ingredients in a bowl until well combined and resembling wet sand Press the pastry mixture evenly onto the bottom and sides of a 9 inch pie plate. Freeze for 10 minutes before placing in oven and bake for 10 to 13 minutes to allow nuts to slightly brown.

Remove from the oven and cool for 10 minutes before placing crust back in freezer for 30 minutes.

Gently spoon the meringue over the pie and spread in a swirly motion to cover to the edges and freeze for one hour.

Finally, use a hand torch on medium to gently brown the meringue to like the pie in the image. Chill until it’s time to serve.

‫‪Serves 8‬‬ ‫‪INGREDIENTS‬‬ ‫‪125g softened butter‬‬ ‫‪1 cup caster sugar‬‬ ‫‪2 eggs room temperature‬‬ ‫‪1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract‬‬ ‫‪1 tablespoon lemon zest‬‬ ‫‪1 tablespoon lime zest‬‬ ‫‪1 cup sifted self rising flour‬‬ ‫‪3/4 cup dried coconut flakes‬‬ ‫‪1 cup milk‬‬ ‫‪DECORATION‬‬ ‫‪1 cup fresh berries‬‬ ‫‪1/4 cup icing sugar‬‬ ‫‪DIRECTIONS‬‬ ‫‪Pre heat oven to 350 F‬‬ ‫‪Place butter and sugar in a mixing bowl and cream‬‬ ‫‪together with a hand mixer until light and fluffy.‬‬ ‫‪Add eggs one at a time, making sure to incorporate well‬‬ ‫‪between additions.‬‬ ‫‪Mix in the zests and vanilla.‬‬ ‫‪In a separate bowl, mix the coconut and flour together.‬‬

‫‪Place the cake batter into a greased 10 X 20 cm loaf pan.‬‬

‫اخبزي الخليط في الفرن لمدة ‪ 45‬إلى ‪ 50‬دقيقة ويمكنك اختبار نضج‬ ‫الكيك بعود خشبي صغير حيث يجب أن يخرج العود نظيفًا بعد غرزه‬ ‫في الكيك كدليل على نضجه‪.‬‬

‫‪Bake for 45 to 50 minutes or until a toothpick can be‬‬ ‫‪inserted into the middle and comes out clean.‬‬
