This is the portfolio about Research-led Design studio project: Regenerate public space for Villa litta lainate. The intent of this project is to practice the Re-image glitch methodology in architecture and landscape design, also explore the impact of what the new media art technique may bring to design in current digital age. Basing on the theoretical knowledge developed during the research of glitch art, the project aims to use re-image as an advanced design language to bring more critical thinking of space and material diversity. Developing a logical understanding of the glitch art as a successful process for the creation of new architectural form is the main goal of this project.

an error may be utilized to create the unforessen within traditional systems, such as routine computer use, musical compositions, or visual art practice even fashion design. In these instances, as the unique generative qualities of errors and accidents are actualized, the artists can no longer be thought of as the sole crative force. additionally, it is now the artist's role to provide the circumstances for an error to emerge. The bugs fill the potetiality of a system with meaning, whether intended or unintended by the designers.

a digital failure cracks the picture we are looking at, for a disappointing minute; interrupt with the film, video games or photo before it comes back to ordinary.
Shifting our original notion and view of observing an object into another dimention becomes more and more important. as the potential for error marks the potential for the new and the unforessen, we can see that an error or an accident in itself may be creative.

The glitch pattern testing which imitate the unpredictable errors happend on TV screen. This failure images surprisingly present different types of lines with abandunt colours and thickness. new media technology naturaly can turn a simple image into multiple remixed pictures. In architecture field, these patterns can be used into facade design process that can bring flexible and positive results.

Pixelization is the most usual visual art technology in digital age. This tiny failure exists in computer programns, but when we enlarged the image to an architectural sized space we can easily find the reflection, alternative and absent phenomenon. The positive meaning which glitch brings to people is to remind the circumstances and historical background of the remixed place you are in.

Digital model can be seen as an object which is formed with code. In this series of geometric volume models, glitch approach has been used into reshaping original shapes. first of all, build the original shape and export into OBJ file. Then, open the file in word software, and start to change the code randomely. By copying and pasting some of the important code that form the shapes, some unpredictable and disordered results appeared.

d e s i g n b r i e f The brief called The dreamland of Villa litta lainate. It mainly contains an open air theatre and landscape between the existing buildings. It both regenerate the existing public space and place some architecture installations for social activities at the site. The project concept is starting from applying the reimage method of glitch art technology into bringing new phenomenom to the villa. which would be radom, continuing, flux and absent. That is so called the dreamland. The design period lasts approximately 4 months; including site visiting, conceptual design, film making, model making and portfolio producing.

Main entrance Site location: lainate, Milan, Italy lainate is a town in northwest Milan metropolitan which is 40km far from Milan city center. lainate is home to "Villa litta", a tourist attraction, and the headquarters of the confectionery company Perfetti Van Melle. The project site is located in the Villa litta lainate, which starts from the wood till the garden in front of the main hall.

Villa litta lainate is known as 16 century Palace which has been successfully restored in lainate, Italy. The creator of the entire complex was Pirro I Visconti Borromeo who was inspired by the Medicean villas in Tuscany, around the year 1585. he transformed his estate in lainate from an agricultural land estate into an estate for amusement and pleasure. In addition to the architectural asset, Pirro I designed the garden landscape, and allowed the nymphaeum to be built. This building for refreshment can be considered as one of the most important examples in northern Italy for the richness of its decorations, and the variety of its water games.
The Marquis Pompeo litta inherited the Villa in 1750, and carried out many interventions mainly concerning the garden design, by multiplying the perspective effects, creating scenes and backdrops, and by re-building the nymphaeum's facade. During this period of time, the villa was at its utmost splendour. at the beginning of the 19th century, after the transformation of the north/west area of the park into an english garden, botanic experiments in the greenhouses were greatly developed. This period ended with the decline of The litta family, that took active part in the risings for The Unity of Italy, leading to the transfer of the villa to Property of State in 1866. The monumental complex, after other ownership transfers, was purchased in 1932 by Mr alberto Toselli, who supervised a part of the restoration work, and made the water games operative again.
context
Impressed by the original rocky facade of the villa walls. from the natural rough surface and some disordered holes, it reminds us the relationship between time and nature. Suprisingly, we could find the geometric shapes of the architecuture elements at the site. Something chaotic, flexible, void but presents the aethetics similar to glitch art.

walking along the site, the villa is ellegant and silent. even if the great place gives you strong impression of renaissance style architecute and garden, we can still hardly get involved. The limited seatings, simple route and lack of life activities during winter and spring. glitch, is more like a random but intended interruption which I tend to create new space inside the existing field. In this project, from the beginning glitch palys a role as a design language in drawing composition. abstract forms represent the unique aethetics behind randomness and void.

The elevation drawing shows the transitional feeling between existing buildings and new architecture stractures when people walk through the path in the villa. This conceptional section drawing is aiming to represent what people's life will be after the digital theatre and landscape have been constructed.

The structures need to be transparent and friendly attached to the environment.
