Bolt is shot peened, then magnetic particle inspected (MPI) to make sure there are no hidden internal flaws. The extractor is made from tool steel for extra strength to minimize the risk of this critical part failing prematurely. Carrier is machined from 8620 steel, then heat-treated for extra strength, and the gas key is staked to prevent gas leakage that can result in short stroking.
