There are those who always or oftentimes choose their soap for the specific, wonderful qualities it can bring to your skin.

There are others who want - part or all of the time -

a great bar of soap that brings wonderful qualities, but is also scented with a favorite fragrance choice. The answer: GOAT’S MILK SOAP WITH SILK. Milk soaps provide extra moisturizing qualities and a creaminess that can’t be matched in soaps formulated with just water. Goat’s milk has been used since ancient times as a natural cleanser. It is one of nature’s finest moisturizers, is softening and soothing to the skin, and adds creaminess to handcrafted soap.

Goat’s milk also contains Vitamin A, several B Vitamins including riboflavin, niacin, B6, B12 and lactic acid. Lactic acid is one of the most commonly used alpha hydroxy acids used in skin care. These alpha hydroxy acids, naturally occurring in goat’s milk, penetrate the skin and are believed to have rejuvenating effects on skin cells, neutralizing free radicals, and slowing the aging process while improving the overall look and feel of the skin. FACIAL FAVORITES “DETOX” SOAP Activated Bamboo Charcoal Soap with Goat’s Milk & Lavender Essential Oil This goat’s milk soap features the addition of activated bamboo charcoal, which acts like a magnet for toxins and impurities. Activated charcoal deep cleans without overdrying, calms acne and redness, and gives skin a healthy glow. Bamboo charcoal is what gives this soap its rich black color. It has also been infused with lavender essential oil, which is used to treat a myriad of skin disorders such as acne, wrinkles, dry skin, psoriasis, eczema, seborrhea, and other inflammatory conditions. It has been formulated with tussah silk for extra luxury.

“DETOX” SOAP Activated Coconut Charcoal Soap with Goat’s Milk and Peppermint & Eucalyptus Essential Oils This goat’s milk soap features the addition of activated coconut charcoal. Coconut charcoal produces a bar that is dark gray in color and has a gritty texture, much like pumice, for mild exfoliation. It also has silk for added luxury. It is fragranced with peppermint and eucalyptus essential oils. In addition to its antiseptic and antimicrobial properties, peppermint essential oil is said to nourish dull skin and improve the texture of oily skin. Eucalyptus essential oil is a natural antiseptic with antibacterial, antifungal, antiinflammatory, and antiviral properties. 16

GOATâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;S MILK SOAP WITH FRENCH PINK CLAY AND PEPPERMINT ESSENTIAL OIL

This goatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s milk soap has been infused with French Pink Clay, a very gentle clay known for drawing out impurities without drying your skin. It is also believed to renew and rejuvenate cells, improve elasticity, and help regenerate skin tissue. This soap has been mildly fragranced with peppermint essential oil, which is said to nourish dull skin and improve the texture of oily skin. It also has been formulated with tussah silk for extra luxury.

French Pink Clay has been used for centuries to clean and heal the skin and is used in spas around the world. It is considered to be one of the mildest of all the clays and works well for normal, sensitive and mature skin types. French Pink Clay can be used to cleanse and detoxify the skin, remove dead skin cells, remove blackheads, deep clean pores, and create an overall refreshed appearance. It can also be used to treat acne and other skin ailments; poor blood and/or lymph circulation, and sun damaged skin.

CARROT SOAP Your anti-aging arsenal isn’t complete without my Carrot Soap! It is chock-full of goodness for your skin. In addition to goat’s milk, it has been formulated with carrot seed essential oil, believed to rejuvenate dry, mature and wrinkled skin, and is believed to aid in healing eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis; carrot extract, said to soothe chapped and inflamed skin and bring balance to skin’s moisture; Pro Vitamin B5 (Panthenol) for great moisturizing and softening properties, and aid in regeneration of skin cells; vitamin E to ease dryness and bolster skin’s UV defense; orange essential oil to promote collagen production, increase blood flow to the skin, and soothe dry, irritated skin and acne-prone skin; turmeric for antiseptic and healing properties and exfoliation; and paprika for exfoliation and an additional natural color boost.

Carrot Seed Essential Oil is not found in all carrot soaps, no doubt because of the cost. I think carrot soap isn’t complete without it. It is extracted from the seeds, and should not be confused with the cheaper carrot oil, when carrot material is infused into a base oil. This wonderful essential oil brings several benefits to the skin, including its magical ability to rejuvenate dry, mature, and wrinkled skin. It works by stimulating red blood cells, which improves appearances by adding elasticity and tone to skin. It has a cult-following as an anti-aging oil for preventing wrinkles. It is also believed to facilitate scar reduction. Carrot seed essential oil is high in antioxidants, which can help protect your skin from UV rays, pollution and stress. Because of its ability to stimulate cell growth and repair damaged skin, it also has a reputation for helping to heal eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis. Carrot Extract is high in vitamins A and E and beta carotene. It soothes chapped and inflamed skin, and is thought to bring balance to the skin’s moisture. A wonderful vegan alternative to goat's milk, coconut milk is abundant with natural antiseptic fatty acids, and gently removes impurities without drying the skin. EGG WHITE SOAPS

EGG WHITE SOAP WITH KAOLIN CLAY, SILK, AND YLANG YLANG, LEMON, ORANGE & TANGERINE ESSENTIAL OILS Egg white soap has been loved by people all over the world for more than a century. Swedish soapmakers created the original egg white soap in the early 1900s. Egg whites are known for tightening skin, creating a healthy glow, and diminishing fine lines. It is believed that lecithin, found naturally in egg whites, may actually help heal skin conditions and is recommended by some experts in the treatment of psoriasis. This soap has been formulated with kaolin clay, which is rich in minerals and helps stimulate circulation to the skin while gently cleansing, detoxifying, exfoliating and softening. It has been infused with tussah silk for extra luxury. You can use it as a facial and body soap. It can also be used for a facial mask by allowing a generous application of its rich lather to rest on your skin for a few minutes before rinsing. 22

EGG WHITE SOAP WITH SILK, FRAGRANCED WITH GARDENIA

This soap has been infused with tussah silk for extra luxury, and is fragranced with Gardenia; a primary note of gardenia, with just a hint of rose and tender orchid to accentuate the gardenia and make it just a bit deeper and more complex.

OH BABY! GOAT’S MILK SOAP WITH SILK INCREASED CONDITIONING AND DECREASED CLEANSING FACTORS

My OH BABY! soap is made with goat’s milk. It is gentle and nourishing for your baby’s (young or otherwise!) and your delicate skin. It has been formulated with increased conditioning and decreased cleansing factors. There are no added colorants. It is infused with colloidal oats - a nutrient-rich ingredient for the skin - to soothe and hydrate dry, sensitive skin. It contains tussah silk for extra luxury. It is available fragrance free or mildly scented with honey and almond. Tree nut allergies are one of the most common allergens in both adults and children. Some fixed oils used in bath and beauty products are derived from nuts. Some oils are easy to identify as nut derived; others are harder to define. And while some people with nut allergies can use nut derived oils in bath and beauty products without irritation, I have avoided oils derived from botanical nuts (such as sweet almond oil, shea butter, argan oil and hazelnut oil) in OH BABY! 24

TUSSAH SILK is a protein produced by the silkworm. This tussah silk is cruelty free in that the cocoons are not disturbed until the silkworms are gone. AVOCADO AND SHEA BUTTER SOAPS

My Avocado and Shea Butter soaps are great for all skin types, but are particularly helpful for dry and damaged skin, as well as mature and aging skin. Great for prematurely aged skin, as avocado has anti-wrinkle properties. Some of the wonderful ingredients contributing to these nourishing soaps: AVOCADO BUTTER is an exotic butter that is known to help moisturize and soften rough, dry and cracked skin. AVOCADO OIL is easily absorbed into the skin and promotes cell regeneration, making it a good healer for damaged skin. It also is believed to aid in the treatment of skin conditions such as eczema, as well as sensitive skin. A natural antibacterial, avocado oil helps to eliminate acne and stubborn blemishes. SHEA BUTTER is one of natureâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s richest moisturizers. The moisturizers in shea butter are the same moisturizers produced by the sebaceous glands in the skin. Shea butter is said to be beneficial for treating dry skin, blemishes, skin discoloration, scars and wrinkles.

SWEET ALMOND OIL is nourishing for the skin, as it is rich in essential fatty acids, minerals and vitamins. Almond oil is a natural emollient and is great for dry skin. It soothes and conditions irritated skin, while also leaving it protected from harmful pollutants. RICE BRAN OIL is conditioning for dry skin, and softens roughness without leaving a greasy or oily residue behind. It helps to heal and repair damaged skin and keep skin healthy. Sea salt is not only a natural detoxifier, absorbing toxins from the skin, but it is full of minerals beneficial to the skin. Unlike table salt, sea salt does not go through the same manufacturing processes so it is able to retain its beneficial minerals. It is also said to contribute to increased circulation, antiseptic effects, soft skin without a greasy feel, and reduction in fluid retention. Ancient Greeks and Romans used warm seawater as a therapy to help them relax. It is believed that sea salt bath therapy provides psychological benefits and improves quality of sleep.

There are two types of soaps made with sea salt. In the typical salt bar, salt is stirred into the soap batter before it is poured and offers exfoliation properties. In the Soleseife, or “German Brine” soap, the salt is dissolved in the water, so you get the benefits of bathing in salt water without the exfoliating properties of undissolved salt. This salt bar contains fine grain Mediterranean Sea Salt, which was stirred into the soap batter before it was poured. Coconut milk also plays a big part in this wonderful soap. Coconut milk is softening and soothing to the skin. A wonderful vegan alternative to goat's milk, coconut milk is abundant with natural antiseptic fatty acids, and gently removes impurities without drying the skin. HAIR PRODUCTS Conditioning Shampoo Bars In one step you can have clean, silky hair! This recipe has been specifically formulated to clean and condition your hair and scalp, and leave hair clean, healthy, soft and shiny. A nominal amount of soap will produce volumes of lather on a sponge. You’ll notice a difference in your hair after one shampoo. Every bar contains Pro-Vitamin B5 and Tussah Silk for radiant, silky hair. Pro-Vitamin B5, also known as DL-Panthenol, is often found in hair products because it provides a great foundation for strong, healthy and vibrant hair. It deeply penetrates and deposits nourishing moisture deep into the cortex of the hair, thus providing weightless volumizing for hair. Because it has such an advanced ability to penetrate hair, it helps smooth the cuticle of each strand. Pro-Vitamin B5 also adds more resilience and strength. My base recipe includes the following oils: Coconut Oil – Nourishes and strengthens hair. Promotes full-bodied hair and a healthy scalp. Palm Oil – Provides deep moisturizing and conditioning properties. Aids in restoring the hair’s natural glistening and conditioning powers. Hair Conditioning Cream Depending upon the condition and length of your hair, and whether you color and/or perm your hair, you may wish to use an additional conditioner periodically. Once you try my new Hair Conditioning Cream, you’ll never want to go back to your old conditioner (yes, even those expensive salon brands). It will leave your hair with a healthy shine, tangle free, silky smooth, and smelling oh-so good. Available in your fragrance choice! Thick and rich and packaged in an 8-oz. tub so you won’t waste a bit. All you need is a tablespoon for long hair so you should get 16 treatments per tub. Place a small amount on your hands and start at the scalp. Comb through to the ends. Leave on several minutes and rinse out. $10.

You only need a tablespoon for long hair - seriously. When you put it on with your hands and comb it through, your experience with commercial conditioners tells you that you need to use way more and that it should feel slimy (am I right?). Cozy Candles From Susan’s Sumptuous Soaps

COZY CANDLES FROM SUSAN’S SUMPTUOUS SOAPS

I have a new addition to my product line: Cozy Candles from Susan’s Sumptuous Soaps are made with 100% soy wax and are generously scented with high quality, intoxicating fragrance oils. They contain no added colorants or chemicals. I use pint sized glass jars. Each jar has been decorated with a translucent mixed media design. Although a variety of factors impact candle burning time, you can generally expect an average burn time of 85 to 100 hours from each of these candles. Jars can be cleaned with a damp cloth. In light of the mixed media designs, they are not dishwasher safe and should not be soaked. When you have used up the candle, you can wash out the inside of the jar by hand with soap and water and repurpose it, or put a tea light or other small candle inside. (Soy wax is much easier to clean than paraffin wax.) Why choose soy wax over paraffin? Cleaner burning – no toxins, carcinogens or pollutants. Soy wax candles last up to 50% longer than a paraffin candle due to the fact that soy has a lower melting point so it burns slower and longer. Soy wax is a natural, renewable resource. Soy wax is biodegradable and cleans up easily with soap and water. Soy wax candles do not produce petro-carbon soot like petroleum based paraffin wax candles. 58

Soy wax is a vegetable wax made from the oil of soybeans. After harvesting, the beans are cleaned, cracked, de-hulled, and rolled into flakes. The oil is then extracted from the flakes and hydrogenated. The hydrogenation process converts some of the fatty acids in the oil from unsaturated to saturated. This process dramatically alters the melting point of the oil, making it solid at room temperature. The leftover bean husks are commonly used as animal feed. The U.S. grows the vast majority of the world's soy beans, primarily in Illinois, Iowa and Indiana. 59

Candle Burning Tips Candle burning times can vary slightly depending on the placement of your candle. For best results, do not burn near a fan, air vent or open window, as the candle will burn slightly faster and less evenly. Candle burning times will also vary depending on the height of your wick; the longer the wick, the shorter the candle burning time. You can extend your candle’s burning time by (1) trimming the wick to ¼” each time before burning, and (2) burning the candle long enough to allow the wax pool to reach the edge of the container. If you don’t allow the pool to reach the edge when you first burn them, they will begin to tunnel down into the wax. That will shorten your candle’s burning time.

COMPLETE FRAGRANCE LINE Almond – A delicious, rich almond fragrance with a mild cherry top note (reminiscent of Jergen's original scent lotion), with ground oats to naturally soothe and exfoliate.

Aloe Vera – This soothing scent is clean and green with a hint of a chill.

Ancient Sedona – This fragrance is an Oriental Floral Amber. This sensual, deep scent was named for the famous city in Arizona, invoking days of old and a deeper, richer experience. It opens with green notes of Mandarin Leaf and Orange Blossom. Heart is heady night Floral, Bulgarian Rose and Vetiver. Dry down has sensual notes of Sandalwood, Bourbon Vanilla, Amber, Labdanum and Tonka Bean.

Anise – Anise Essential Oil is not only famous for its distinct licorice scent, but as a tough odor eliminator. Great for those who hunt and fish, as it is said that anise soap will remove the human scent so the fish and animals won’t smell you.

Apple Blossom – One whiff of this and you’ll know why the apple blossom is reputed to be one of the most aromatic flowers. This is a delightfully fresh and clean scent reminiscent of spring – even in the coldest of winters.

Applejack Peel – Reminiscent of the popular Claire Burke fragrance. Hot and spicy top notes of Cinnamon and Cloves rounding down to a mellow scent of red apples.

Baby Bee Buttermilk—A delicate fragrance cocktail reminiscent of Burt’s Bees Baby Bee Buttermilk Lotion.

Black Canyon – A deep musk with light floral notes and a touch of sandalwood and patchouli. Men and women alike enjoy this fragrance.

Black Raspberry Vanilla - Ripe black raspberries are mixed with dark plum and warm vanilla. Mmmm.

Blue Man – This is a duplication of the popular men’s cologne, Aquolina Blue Sugar. The base note of Black Patchouli blends perfectly with Orange Peel, Sparkling Mandarin, Coriander Leaves, Star Anise and Venezuela Tonka. It’s surprisingly sweet and majorly masculine.

Blueberry – Not a syrupy scent, but a delightfully true blueberry fragrance.

Brisk Waters—This crisp scent is a great men’s fragrance, surprisingly also adored by women. It’s like navigating a kayak through icy waters—brisk and fresh, but casual enough not to overwhelm the senses. It has top notes of citrus, black current and pineapple, middle notes of honeydew, muguet and water lily, and base notes of vetiver, amber and mulberry. The final touch is a bit of peppermint essential oil to make it just right!

Carnation – Carnation fragranced soap seems to be a distant memory, perhaps because a good carnation fragrance seems impossible to find. I have created my own blend, which I believe hits the mark. This soap is delicately fragranced with the spicy clove-like aroma of heritage carnations of days gone by.

Chamomile – A wonderful fragrance for relaxation! The calming, hypnotic scent of the chamomile flower will instantly melt your tensions away.

Citrus Bliss – A blast of citrus and a surprise twist make this a refreshing Citrus Bliss! This is my own blend, and personally I think it's rather addictive.

Cold Water – This crisp scent is a great men’s fragrance, surprisingly also adored by women. Drakkar – A fabulous men’s fragrance with interesting notes of spicy berries, citrus, Lavender and Amber.

Espresso—A rich and robust coffee scent with a hint of mocha. Delicious!

Fresh Bamboo—A clean, refreshing blend of wild bamboo stalks, crisp aloe and jasmine petals with base notes of Vetivert and soft musk. It is a great unisex fragrance.

Freshly Picked Apples – Crisp, white juices softened by the just picked sweetness of Mother Nature’s best! If you like Bath & Body Works Fresh Picked Apple fragrance, you’ll love this.

Gardenia—A primary note of gardenia, with just a hint of rose and tender orchid to accentuate the gardenia and make it just a bit deeper and more complex.

Heather & Hyacinth – This beautiful scent smells like a stroll through the loveliest of proper English gardens. It’s more Hyacinth than Heather. An unpretentious scent, it smells like a brisk, unisex scent.

Herbal Delight – A Susan’s Sumptuous Soaps’ exclusive blend exploding with herbal, woody, floral and citrus notes that is appealing to men and women alike.

Honey—A true honey fragrance with a beautifully sweet aroma.

Honey & Almond—A delicate blend of delicious honey and rich almonds.

Island Coconut – One whiff and you’ll be thinking, sun, sun, sun!

Jasmine Dreams – A calming and sensual light floral, sure to bring you sweet dreams.

Oatmeal, Milk & Honey – A long time favorite of many! Mildly sweet and toasty and smells so rich, it’s intoxicating!

Orange Blossom – Orange tree blossoms are enticingly aromatic, and this is an incredible replication. A very sensual and wonderfully intoxicating white flower scent. This one is destined to be a long-time favorite!

Orange Musk - Sweet Orange Essential Oil topped off with a dollop of rich musk—a sensuous combination.

Pepperberry – A spicy, sensual mixture that starts out with traditional Black Pepper notes mixed with Black Orchid. It is accentuated with All Spice, Wildberries and Bulgarian Rose, and finishes up with heavier notes of Pine Needle, Oak and just a small hint of Vanilla. It is absolutely intoxicating.

Peppermint – This Essential Oil is a stimulating mint with a candy cane smell. Portion of oil removed, rendering a higher menthol content.

Pikake – Soft spices blended with white florals. Tropical and fresh. Heavenly!

Piña Colada – A delicious, creamy blend of sweet pineapple juice, Malibu rum and coconut. Close your eyes and you can practically taste it!

Red Apple - A blend of a few varieties of Red Apple scents, along with some notes of Green Apple to temper the sweetness. The Green Apple notes add some wonderful depth and tartness to the scent.

Rice Flower & Shea – A soft, delicate scent based on the popular Bath & Body Works favorite. It has a base note of a sweet and warm musk with floral top notes of Jasmine and Lilac. Utterly soul-soothing.

Rose Garden – Allow yourself to be transported to a garden of classic old roses commingled with complimentary greenery. A Susan’s Sumptuous Soaps’ exclusive blend.

Lavender Fields—A bold yet fresh smelling lavender made from a mixture of lavender essential oils. Lavender essential oil is used to treat a myriad of skin disorders such as acne, wrinkles, dry skin, psoriasis, eczema, seborrhea, and other inflammatory conditions, and is good for every skin type.

Lavender, Milk & Honey - Oatmeal, Milk & Honey has been a long standing favorite of many. I added a hint of lavender and have come up with a delightful blend—Lavender, Milk & Honey. It is now one of my favorite fragrances. I think you’ll love it also!

Lemon Sunshine - Smells like a freshly sliced lemon!

Lemongrass – Revitalize your mind and body with the refreshing, invigorating and exhilarating scent of lemongrass. It has an energetic lemon scent with an earthy note. Lemongrass is a popular and stimulating skin ingredient for oily, mature or inflamed skin. It can help clear up oily skin and works well as a skin toner because it naturally dilates the blood vessels, tightening pores and wrinkles. Additionally, it can treat such problems as skin rashes, excessive sweating, athlete’s foot and stress.

Lilac – A good Lilac can be elusive. This one’s the real deal.

Mandarin & Mimosa—The top sparkles with crisp dewy fruit, mandarin oranges, tangerines and sweet berries. The heart combines a medley of pineapple, mimosa blossoms, peaches, plums, fruity jasmine and soft lavender. The base is a beautiful lily and vanilla.

Mango—A milkly sweet tropical scent of freshly cut mango. Close your eyes and you may think you’ve escaped to a beach in the Caribbean.

Neroli – Neroli oil is extracted from the blossoms of the bitter orange tree...But don't think orange. This is an absolutely incredible fragrance blend! It contains some Neroli Essential Oil and is strengthened with notes of Cinnamon, Dill Weed, Eucalyptus and Orange fragrance.

Peach (Market Peach) - A good peach fragrance is hard to find, but you’ll love this one. Close your eyes and you can almost see, smell and taste some deliciously sweet, juicy peaches.

Spearmint Eucalyptus – Absolutely delectable! Invigorating Eucalyptus and garden Spearmint are brought together by Lavender, Citrus, and a touch of Calendula for a very energizing ~ but still mild ~ fragrance.

Spiced Mahogany – This deep, rich woody scent has notes of Italian Bergamot, Apple Wood and Tonka Bean to round out the darker, more sensuous Patchouli, Cedarwood, and Oakmoss. To keep this fragrance from smelling like a freshly cut wood floor, spices of Cardamom, Vanilla Bourbon and Allspice have been added.

Spring Rain – A light, fresh floral with a hint of spice. A relaxing spa-type fragrance. Awesome!

Stud Muffin – Stud Muffin fragrance begins with fresh, daring notes of Japanese grapefruit, bergamot, and lemon; followed by middle notes of peppercorn, ginger, jasmine, aquatic marine notes, and a hint of peppermint; sitting on expensive base notes of natural patchouli, cedar, Vetiver, labdanum, and frankincense. Guys, step forward and claim your new soap!

Sunflower – The scent of golden sunflowers – bright, sunny and soft.

Sweetgrass – This is a bright, green scent that is a compliment to the bright scents of summer. It is a great unisex fragrance. Absolutely scrumptious!

Tangerine – Bright, fruity, and sweet, Tangerine Essential Oil reminds us of happy summer days eating orange popsicles. Many claim that Tangerine oil promotes tranquility and helps calm hyperactive children. It may also help reduce stretch marks during pregnancy and act as an antiseptic toner for oily skin. However it helps you, it smells yummy!

Vetyver—A sensual blend inspired by the Bath & Body Works fragrance. Top notes of lemon and rosemary; middle notes containing florals, sandalwood and patchouli; and finished off with musk and vetiver. Although made with men in mind, women love this one too.

White Tea & Ginger – This fragrance has a delightfully warm and comforting smell. With top notes of Bergamot, Lemon Peels and Green Daylilies, this fragrance is brought back to its roots with a base of Ginger, Nutmeg and Warm Musk. White floral notes, such as Hyacinth, Freesia and Peony complete the mix. This fragrance is unique in many ways and it is difficult to pick out individual notes when you smell the soothing blend.

Woodland Splendorâ&#x20AC;&#x201D; A fantastic forest scent with a wonderful mix of pines and woodsy base notes. Brisk and fresh.

EXFOLIATION Did you know that each one of your skin cells has a life span of two to four weeks? At the beginning of the cycle, it starts out as a bright, healthy cell. Each skin cell originates at the base of your skin layers and moves toward the surface. By the cell’s final days, it is scaly, dehydrated, tough and colorless. Your skin works hard to naturally shed these cells daily, but as we age, it becomes more difficult for our skin to get rid of dead cells. As a result, dead cells build up and cause problems like clogged pores, dullness and dehydration. The key: EXFOLIATION!
