WHAT KIND OF SOAP IS RIGHT FOR YOU? Few things in this life are more luxurious â&#x20AC;&#x201C; and affordable â&#x20AC;&#x201C; than handmade soap. One of the reasons is that glycerine, a natural moisturizing agent and conditioner (a by-product of the soap making process), is retained in handmade soap. In commercial soap, all of the glycerine is removed and sold as a valuable commodity to the cosmetic industry, which in turn resells it to you in the form of beauty lotions and other products at a higher price. Soap without glycerine dries your skin.

Commercial soaps (commonly called beauty, deodorant or moisturizing bars), dry out skin and leave unhealthy chemical residues. They contain chemicals, petroleum products (irritating to people with sensitive skin), esters (known carcinogenics), alcohols (which dry your skin), low grade oils, waxes, fillers, detergents and preservatives. Your skin absorbs those chemicals. There is a reason it is so cheap! My soaps contain no harmful chemicals and detergents.

Did you know that, if you use a commercial skin-cleansing product, chances are it consists primarily of animal fat? Animal fat is used because it is cheap and plentiful. Dermatologists frequently recommend Ivory and Dove as gentle cleansers, yet they are both made with animal fat â&#x20AC;&#x201C; which clogs pores, causes blackheads, contributes to acne, provides a breeding ground for bacteria, and aggravates certain skin conditions! I use high quality oils for their benefits to skin. They are more expensive, but the resulting soap is superior in texture, moisturizing properties, and cleaning ability, and the lather is rich and luxurious.

Handmade soaps provide a healthier, more natural alternative for skin health. That said, all handmade soaps are not the same. I love creating my own recipes with ingredients that are good for our bodies, and are formulated to achieve a luxurious balance 4

of cleansing, conditioning, bubbles and creamy lather. I love to find and/or blend fragrances that are absolutely intoxicating. Top of the line fragrance and essential oils are crucial. It's fun to use my creativity and artisanal flair as I design and make each loaf of soap with love. My soap isnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t ready for you until it has passed my rigorous testing and high standards.

Fresh goatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s milk and coconut milk are favorites of mine, and for good reason. Milk has long been known for its moisturizing properties and is an ancient beauty treatment. Cleopatra was known for her beautiful skin resulting from her famous milk baths. Milk also has an alpha hydroxy acid which is well known for softening skin and leaving it rejuvenated for a younger appearance. Milk soaps have a pH level similar to our skin, which helps protect the skin from invading bacteria and chemicals we come in contact with every day. People who suffer from skin allergies, eczema, psoriasis and dry skin are frequent users of milk soaps.

I use both fragrance and essential oils, but either or both can be withheld upon request. Whether fragrance or essential oils, I believe the fragrances should be nothing short of rich and intoxicating. My soap fragrances are subtle and not overpowering. Additionally, if you want to make sure your soap is limited to essential oils, let me know! I generally use light coloring, with either natural or cosmetic-grade colorants, but coloring can be withheld upon request. Customization is also available for exfoliating agents and other soap additives.

Many of my soaps have been formulated with Tussah Silk for extra luxury. Tussah Silk is a protein produced by the silkworm. This Tussah Silk is cruelty free in that the cocoons are not disturbed until the silkworms are gone. The addition of silk to soap produces a shinier appearance, slightly increased lather, and a wonderful silky feel to it.

Clays are wonderful, whether incorporated into the soap or used alone. One of the clays I offer is Rhassoul Clay, an exquisite mineral-rich clay from the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. It has been used for over 1400 years as a soap, shampoo, and skin conditioner, and was highly prized by the nobility of ancient Egypt and Rome. Rhassoul 5

Clay is used by upscale spas around the world as a skin conditioner. It removes dead skin, surface oil, and oil from inside and around clogged pores, improves skin clarity, elasticity, firmness and texture, and reduces dryness and flakiness. Rhassoul Clay leaves your skin unbelievably clean, smooth, moisturized, clear, and feeling fresh.

I also use French Pink Clay. It has been used for centuries to clean and heal the skin and is used in spas around the world. It is considered to be one of the mildest of all the clays and works well for normal, sensitive, and mature skin types. It gently cleans and detoxifies the skin, removes dead skin cells, helps remove blackheads and deep cleans pores, and creates an overall refreshed appearance. It can also be used to treat acne and other skin ailments, poor blood and/or lymph circulation, and sun damaged skin. This is a mild clay that can be used every day without drying the skin.

Many of my soaps are infused with Kaolin Clay, which helps stimulate circulation to the skin while gently cleansing, detoxifying and softening. Kaolin Clay is one of the most mild clays and is suitable for all skin types, even those with sensitive skin.

I make a “Detox” Soap that contains Activated Charcoal. Activated Charcoal has been treated with oxygen, which gives it the ability to act like a magnet for toxins and impurities. It will deep clean without overdrying, calm acne and redness, and give skin a healthy glow.

Finally, in my opinion, no bar of soap is complete without elevated visual interest and an artisanal flair.

You have a lot of soap choices. Read the labels. Make informed decisions. If you think handmade soap is right for you, give my soap a try. You could spend a lot more money on handmade soap, but why should you? Spending more will not buy you a better bar of soap than Susan’s Sumptuous Soaps.

FACIAL+ SOAPS Carrot Soap Your anti-aging arsenal isn’t complete without my Carrot Soap! Carrot soap has been around for a few years and is great for all skin types, but is particularly helpful for pampering mature skin, rejuvenating skin cells and encouraging new growth. My Carrot Soap is chock-full of goodness for your skin…Carrot Seed Essential Oil, Carrot Extract, Pro Vitamin B5, Vitamin E, dehydrated and ground carrots, goat’s milk, orange essential oil, tussah silk, and turmeric and paprika for an additional natural color boost and exfoliation. Carrot Seed Essential Oil is not found in all carrot soaps, no doubt because of the cost. I think Carrot Soap isn’t complete without it. It is extracted from the seeds, and should not be confused with the cheaper carrot oil, when carrot material is infused into a base oil. This wonderful essential oil brings several benefits to the skin, including its magical ability to rejuvenate dry, mature, and wrinkled skin. It works by stimulating red blood cells, which improves appearances by adding elasticity and tone to skin. It has a cult-following as an anti-aging oil for preventing wrinkles. It is also believed to facilitate scar reduction. Carrot Seed Essential Oil is high in antioxidants, which can help protect your skin from UV rays, pollution and stress. Because of its ability to stimulate cell growth and repair damaged skin, it also has a reputation for helping to heal eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis. Carrot Extract is high in vitamins A and E and beta carotene. It soothes chapped and inflamed skin, and is thought to bring balance to the skin’s moisture. Carrot Extract is helpful for dry winter skin and mature skin. Pro Vitamin B5 is helpful for dry, damaged, chapped, inflamed or irritated skin, as well as mature and aging skin. It offers great moisturizing and softening properties and promotes regeneration of skin cells.

Vitamin E eases dryness and bolsters skin’s UV defense. The best anti-aging products contain at least 1% vitamin E. Dehydrated and Ground Carrots, sourced from a chemical free garden, have been infused into this soap not only for the added vitamins, but also for some light exfoliation and color enhancement. Goat’s Milk also plays a big part in this wonderful soap. Milk soaps provide extra moisturizing qualities and a creaminess that can’t be matched in soap formulated with just water. Goat’s milk has been used since ancient times as a natural cleanser. It is one of nature’s finest moisturizers, is softening and soothing to the skin, and adds creaminess to handcrafted soap. Goat’s milk also contains Vitamin A, several B Vitamins including riboflavin, niacin, B6, B12 and lactic acid. Lactic acid is one of the most commonly used alpha hydroxy acids used in skin care. These alpha hydroxy acids, naturally occurring in goat’s milk, penetrate the skin and are believed to have rejuvenating effects on skin cells, neutralizing free radicals, and slowing the aging process while improving the overall look and feel of the skin. Orange Essential Oil has also been added to this soap. Carrot Seed Essential Oil has an earthy aroma that many might not appreciate. Orange Essential Oil has been shown to promote the production of collagen, as well as increase blood flow to the skin. It is helpful in soothing dry, irritated skin, as well as acne-prone skin. It also has a delightful aroma that makes the Carrot Seed Essential Oil more palatable! Tussah Silk: These soaps have been formulated with Tussah Silk for extra luxury. The addition of silk to soap produces a shinier appearance, slightly increased lather, and a wonderful silky feel to it. Turmeric and paprika have been incorporated into this soap for an additional natural color boost and some mild exfoliation. INGREDIENTS: Olive oil, coconut oil, palm oil, castor oil, canola oil, rice bran oil, fractionated coconut oil, goat’s milk, purified water, sodium hydroxide, orange essential oil, carrot seed essential oil, carrot extract, pro vitamin B5, vitamin E, turmeric, paprika, and tussah silk. $7 each.

Egg White Soap with Rosewater Egg white soap has been loved by people all over the world for more than a century. Swedish soapmakers created the original egg white soap in the early 1900s. Egg whites are known for tightening skin, creating a healthy glow, and diminishing fine lines. Lecithin, found naturally in egg whites, may actually help heal skin conditions and is recommended by some experts in the treatment of psoriasis. Combined with rosewater, a naturally mild antiseptic recommended for acne and skin irritation, the skin is instantly nourished and hydrated. The egg whites in my soap are fresh, not powdered. The rosewater is steam distilled by me with fresh rose petals from my chemical-free gardens. The lather in this soap is rich and has a light, delicious rose fragrance. You can use it as a facial and body soap. It can also be used for a facial mask by allowing a generous application of lather to rest on your skin for a few minutes before rinsing. INGREDIENTS: Olive oil, coconut oil, palm oil, castor oil, canola oil, rice bran oil, fractionated coconut oil, steam distilled rosewater, purified water, sodium hydroxide, egg whites, and fragrance. $5 each.

Give yourself a mini-facial! Once a week give yourself a mini-facial! Wash your face with this Egg White Soap. After washing, rub a very thick cream of it on your face and let it sit for a few minutes. Rinse it off with cold water. Leaves your face positively glowing!

Honey Soap This wonderful goat’s milk soap has been formulated with honey. Honey is also incredible for your skin! It is a natural humectant – it attracts and retains moisture from the air into the deepest layers of your skin for penetrating, long-lasting hydration. The enzymes in honey clarify skin and keep pores clear and clean. The antibacterial and antifungal properties of honey thwart bacteria that can lead to breakouts. Honey is loaded with antioxidants, enzymes and other nutrients that nourish, cleanse and hydrate your skin. Honey’s antioxidants will repair and protect your skin. The anti-inflammatory and antibacterial compounds calm redness and irritation, decrease the appearance of scars, and increase healing and tissue regeneration. Spearmint Eucalyptus Absolutely delectable! Invigorating eucalyptus and garden spearmint are brought together by lavender, citrus, and a touch of calendula for a very energizingâ&#x20AC;&#x201D;but still mildâ&#x20AC;&#x201D;fragrance.

Black Raspberry Vanilla Ripe black raspberries are mixed with dark plum and warm vanilla. Mmmm.

Brisk Waters This crisp scent is a great men’s fragrance, surprisingly also adored by women. It’s like navigating a kayak through icy waters—brisk and fresh, but casual enough not to overwhelm the senses. It has top notes of citrus, black current and pineapple, middle notes of honeydew, muguet and water lily, and base notes of vetiver, amber and mulberry. The final tough is a bit of peppermint essential oil to make it just right. It is a proprietary fragrance available only from Susan’s 24

Did you know that each one of your skin cells has a life span of two to four weeks? At the beginning of the cycle, it starts out as a bright, healthy cell. Each skin cell originates at the base of your skin layers and moves toward the surface. By the cell’s final days, it is scaly, dehydrated, tough and colorless. Your skin works hard to naturally shed these cells daily, but as we age, it becomes more difficult for our skin to get rid of dead cells.

As a result, dead cells build up and cause problems like

More information about some of the ingredients in this soap: Coconut Milk plays a big part in this wonderful soap. Milk soaps offer a creamier lather and more conditioning than soaps utilizing just water. Coconut milk is softening and soothing to the skin. A wonderful vegan alternative to goat's milk, coconut milk is abundant with natural antiseptic fatty acids, and gently removes impurities without drying the skin. Many cultures in tropical climates have found that coconut milk has numerous skin smoothing properties. It is widely used in spas in India to soothe dry skin and scalps. Avocado Butter is an exotic butter that is known to help moisturize and soften rough, dry and cracked skin. For acne-prone skin, shea butter is a wiser choice than cocoa butter. The moisturizers in shea butter are the same moisturizers produced by the sebaceous glands in the skin. Shea butter is said to be beneficial for treating dry skin, blemishes, skin discoloration, scars and wrinkles. Shea butter contains Vitamins A and E, which help maintain the skin and keep it clear and healthy. 30

Sweet Almond Oil is nourishing for the skin, as it is rich in essential fatty acids, minerals and vitamins. Almond Oil is a natural emollient and is great for dry skin. It soothes and conditions irritated skin, while also leaving it protected from harmful pollutants. Rice Bran Oil is conditioning for dry skin, and softens roughness without leaving a greasy or oily residue behind. This oil helps to heal and repair damaged skin, while nutrition from fatty acids helps to keep skin healthy. Castor Oil is extremely conditioning, making it great for dry skin. Castor oil soothes inflamed skin, and reduces swelling from damage or irritation. As castor oil is the biggest resource for ricinoleic acid, it has properties that other oils may not have. Ricinoleic acid is a polyunsaturated fatty acid with antifungal and antibacterial properties. As a humectant, ricinoleic acid pulls moisture from the air and traps it to the skin, helping to hydrate skin. Pro Vitamin B5 is helpful for dry, damaged, chapped, inflamed or irritated skin, as well as mature and aging skin. SEA SALT SOAP “Salt & Pepper” Sea Salt Soap Sea salt is not only a natural detoxifier, absorbing toxins from the skin, but it is full of minerals beneficial to the skin. Unlike table salt, sea salt does not go through the same manufacturing processes so it is able to retain its beneficial minerals. It is also said to contribute to increased circulation, antiseptic effects, soft skin without a greasy feel, and reduction in fluid retention. Ancient Greeks and Romans used warm seawater as a therapy to help them relax. It is believed that sea salt bath therapy provides psychological benefits and improves quality of sleep.

There are two types of soaps made with sea salt. In the typical salt bar, salt is stirred into the soap batter before it is poured and offers exfoliation properties. In the Soleseife, or “German Brine” soap, the salt is dissolved in the water, so you get the benefits of bathing in salt water without the exfoliating properties of undissolved salt. HAIR PRODUCTS Conditioning Shampoo Bars In one step you can have clean, silky hair! This recipe has been specifically formulated to clean and condition your hair and scalp, and leave hair clean, healthy, soft and shiny. A nominal amount of soap will produce volumes of lather on a sponge. You’ll notice a difference in your hair after one shampoo. Every bar contains Pro-Vitamin B5 and Tussah Silk for radiant, silky hair. Pro-Vitamin B5, also known as DL-Panthenol, is often found in hair products because it provides a great foundation for strong, healthy and vibrant hair. It deeply penetrates and deposits nourishing moisture deep into the cortex of the hair, thus providing weightless volumizing for hair. Because it has such an advanced ability to penetrate hair, it helps smooth the cuticle of each strand. Pro-Vitamin B5 also adds more resilience and strength. My base recipe includes the following oils: Coconut Oil – Nourishes and strengthens hair. Promotes full-bodied hair and a healthy scalp. Palm Oil – Provides deep moisturizing and conditioning properties. Aids in restoring the hair’s natural glistening and conditioning powers. Castor Oil – Helps moisturize and condition hair, makes dull hair shiny and smooth, can increase luster, nourishes the scalp and stimulates hair growth. I personally love silicones in my hair products, so I have another Conditioning Shampoo Bar; “Silicone Lover’s Delight.” Silicones are very effective conditioners, provide great shine, and can help smooth hair. This bar is fragranced with Red Apple and smells divine!

Both bars are good for color treated hair also, as they will not strip color from your hair like the detergents in commercial shampoos.

Hair Conditioning Cream Depending upon the condition and length of your hair, and whether you color and/or perm your hair, you may wish to use an additional conditioner periodically. Once you try my new Hair Conditioning Cream, youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ll never want to go back to your old conditioner (yes, even those expensive salon brands). It will leave your hair with a healthy shine, tangle free, silky smooth, and smelling oh-so good. I have chosen three standard fragrances which I think are wonderful for a Hair Conditioning Cream (Red Apple, Citrus Bliss, or Ylang Ylang). However, I would be glad to make one for you with your fragrance choice.

All you need is a tablespoon for long hair so you should get 16 treatments per tub. Place a small amount on your hands and start at the scalp. Comb through to the ends. Leave on several minutes and rinse out.

When you put it on with your hands and comb it through, your experience with commercial conditioners tells you that you need to use way more and that it should feel slimy (am I right?). INGREDIENTS The first and primary ingredient in my Sumptuous Soaps and other products: LOVE! They are totally free of: Parabens, such as Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, and Propylparaben. Sulfates, such as Sodium Laurel Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES). Phthalates, such as Dinbutylphthlate (DPB), Diethylphthalate (DEP), Dimethylphthalate (DMP), and Benzylbutylphthalate (BzBP). Petroleum derivatives, such as Propylene Glycol (PG, which is the active component in antifreeze), Polyethylene Glycol (PEG), Ethylene Glycol (EG), and mineral oil. Ammonia derivatives, such as Diethanolamine (DEA), Triethanolamine (TEA) and Monoethanolamine (MEA). Formaldehyde releasing ingredients, such as Imidazolidinyl Urea and DMDM Hydantoin. Reading labels isn’t just for food. Read your soap and cosmetic labels. For instance, many if not all of Bath and Body Works products contain ingredients that are skin or eye irritants, but some ingredients can also cause more serious problems. Benzyl alcohol is a common ingredient that is also a neurotoxin which can cause allergic reactions, liver damage, coma and death in animals. Dimethicone is derived from petroleum and a known environmental contaminant. Disodium EDTA is a neurotoxin made from formaldehyde. It has been associated with brain damage, liver changes, endocrine damage, fetal damage and birth abnormalities in animals. And finally, methylparaben is an endocrine disruptor that has been linked to breast and ovarian cancer and is also an environmental contaminant. Instead, try my Luscious Lip Butter—Made with mango butter, shea butter, coconut oil, beeswax, and flavoring when noted.

Johnson’s Baby Oil is 100% mineral oil, a petroleum derivative. A report on carcinogens states that untreated and mildly treated mineral oils are known to be human carcinogens. A study on mice showed that the more refined the oil, the less carcinogenic it was. Cosmetic grade mineral oil is most likely not going to cause you to suffer from cancer. If “most likely” is good enough for you, maybe you don’t need to worry about it. If, on the other hand, you don’t want to take the risk, and would prefer to use natural alternatives that not only soften your skin, but nourish it, look to ingredients such as shea butter, jojoba oil and coconut oil. You will find these ingredients on my shelf and in my products. Mineral oil is used in a lot of commercial products because it is inexpensive. In fact, it is more expensive to dispose of it than to purchase it. The molecular structure of mineral oil is too large to penetrate the skin. Thus, instead of being absorbed by your skin, it sits on top. Mineral oil supporters paint the picture that it locks in moisture. The assumption then is that if the skin feels smooth, it must be moist. In reality, mineral oil doesn’t allow the skin to breathe. It prevents the body from absorbing oxygen and from eliminating toxins and other waste products. Better options for your skin are all natural shea butter and coconut oil—two of the most reparative and nourishing oils available straight from the earth. Shea butter is high in Vitamins A, E and F. Some of shea butter’s benefits: Rejuvenates and restores elasticity to the skin, alleviates sunburns, helps cure eczema and psoriasis, and repairs skin cracks. Coconut oil is full of antioxidants. It soothes and softens the skin, corrects dryness and scaling, helps to heal wounds, and increases collagen turnover. Shea butter and coconut oil both are easily absorbed without clogging pores or feeling greasy. My customers with eczema and other skin conditions all vigorously applaud the benefits of my Whipped Shea Butter Body Soufflé, which contains shea butter and coconut oil. Carmex: Two of the ingredients in Carmex are Phenol and Petrolatum: PHENOL: “Phenol is considered to be quite toxic to humans via oral exposure.” Source: EPA and the Agency for Toxic Substances & Disease Registry. PETROLATUM: Petrolatum comes from crude oil. Setting aside the issues of (a) whether or not you want a crude oil product on your lips and (b) the extent to which it may be carcinogenic, it interferes with the body’s own natural moisturizing mechanisms, leading to dry skin and chapping. In other words, you are being sold a product that creates the very conditions it claims to alleviate. Why then do they use petrolatum? Because it is incredibly cheap. In fact, it is more expensive to dispose of it than to purchase it. 77

All of Susan's Sumptuous Soaps and other products are lovingly made in Lake Hattie Township in northern Minnesota with ingredients you and your skin will love. All of my products are labeled with their ingredients. My products contain the oils and butters identified on the following pages. Colorants, when added, are natural and/or cosmetic-grade. Special order soap is available without any coloring (at no extra charge, of course). Fragrances consist of a proprietary blend of essential and/or fragrance oils. Special order soap is available without fragrance. Some soaps have exfoliating agents and other additives such as Vitamin E oil, honey, oats, cornmeal, poppy seeds, cinnamon and other herbs. Rhassoul Clay, French Pink Clay, Kaolin Clay and Activated Charcoal are available as soap additives. My CrĂ¨me de la CrĂ¨me Conditioning Cream has purified water in it, so it is absolutely necessary to use a preservative. I use Optiphen Plus, which is paraben-free, a nonformaldehyde donor, and non-isothiazolinone. It contains Phenoxyethanol (an aromatic ether alcohol), Caprylyl Glycol (an emollient base), and Sorbic Acid (a natural acid that offers protection from yeast, fungus and mold). The oils and butters used in my soap and other products are described on the following pages.

Oils and Butters in My Products COCONUT OIL: Contributes to fluffy lather and lathers well even in very hard water. It is emollient, moisturizing, conditioning and protecting to the skin. Coconut oil provides excellent cleansing properties to soap. It contains ferulic acid, which is a very effective anti-oxidant â&#x20AC;&#x201C; more powerful than Vitamin E â&#x20AC;&#x201C; that can prevent skin aging, reduce age spots, and help repair light and radiation induced damage. It penetrates skin to soften and moisturize, soothes wind chapped and sunburned skin, and reduces itching and inflammation. It contains caffeic acid, which is also a good anti-oxidant. Coconut oil also contains catechins, which offers antibiotic properties, and lauric acid, which offers anti-bacterial properties. Note: Using an overabundance of coconut oil can be drying to skin. OLIVE OIL: Used in soap for its incredibly creamy and mild lather. Produces small, silky bubbles. Naturally high in antioxidants and helps condition skin. Contains up to 83% of oleic acid, which is moisturizing, regenerating, softening, offers anti-inflammatory properties, and is well absorbed by the skin. Forms a breathable layer on the skin, preventing loss of internal moisture. Attracts external moisture to your skin, helping to keep skin soft and supple. RICE BRAN OIL: Rice bran oil imparts a lovely silkiness to soap. It provides moisturizing and is a good choice for mature, delicate or sensitive skin. Rice Bran Oil contains ferulic acid, a very effective antioxidant. Studies are showing that ferulic acid can prevent skin aging and reduce age spots. It can penetrate the skin to offer moisturizing and softening, help with wind chapped or sunburned skin, and help reduce itching and inflammation in the skin. PALM OIL: Palm oil is widely used for its hardening properties in soap and, when used in conjunction with coconut oil, acts as a secondary lathering agent. It cleans well, provides conditioning and contributes to a silky feel. FRACTIONATED COCONUT OIL: Fractionated coconut oil is a light feeling and offers moisturization. It is easily absorbed into the skin without feeling greasy. In soap, it cleanses and produces bubbles. CASTOR OIL: Castor oil provides a rich, creamy lather in soap and provides conditioning and moisturizing. It penetrates skin easily, and acts as a softening oil. Castor oil contains up to 95% ricinoleic fatty acid, which makes it an excellent humectant, attracting and holding moisture to the skin. It contains some phytosterols, so it offers some anti-inflammatory and itch reducing properties. CANOLA OIL: Canola oil works well in combination with other oils and makes for a balanced bar of soap. It produces a creamy lather and offers conditioning benefits.

JOJOBA OIL: Jojoba oil has been used for centuries to treat sores, cuts, as a conditioner and for other skin treatments. Jojoba oil resembles human sebum, which is the natural substance our skin produces to keep our skin supple. As we age, we start to produce less sebum, and jojoba oil can act as a replacement. It also mimics collagen. Jojoba is perfect for any skin type. If your skin is oily, jojoba oil will dissolve clogged pores and restore the skin to its natural pH balance. Jojoba is readily absorbed into skin because the skin accepts it as sebum. Jojoba will not leave a greasy feeling on the skin because it is absorbed. Scientific research has shown that jojoba can increase skin softness by up to 37%, it reduces superficial lines and wrinkles up to 25% upon application and up to 11% after 8 hours. SWEET ALMOND OIL: Sweet almond oil is good for all skin types, but is especially appropriate for dry skin care. It is a natural source of skin-nourishing antioxidants and vitamins. It is reported to be soothing, healing, lubricating, softening, revitalizing, regenerating, and nourishing. It is good for sensitive or irritated skin and helps relieve itching, soreness and dryness. AVOCADO OIL: Avocado oil is a rich, skin-rejuvenating oil, easily absorbed by the skin and hair. It is very high in oleic acid (up to 80%) and is good for dry, dull, dehydrated skin, aging skin, and eczema. COCOA BUTTER: Cocoa butter is one of nature’s richest moisturizers. It has been used for centuries as a beauty product. It is effective in easing skin problems such as eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis. Cocoa butter contains cocoa mass polyphenol (CMP), which helps ease dermatitis or rashes. CMP may also inhibit the growth of cancerous cells and tumors. Cocoa butter contains antioxidants that can kill off a wide range of free radicals that destroy your skin cells and lead to premature aging. In soap, cocoa butter contributes to rich, creamy lather and provides conditioning and moisturizing. It puts down a protective layer that holds moisture to the skin, acting as a softener. For acne-prone skin, shea butter is a wiser choice than cocoa butter. SHEA BUTTER: Shea butter is another of nature’s richest moisturizers. It has been used for centuries as a beauty product. The moisturizers in shea butter are the same moisturizers produced by the sebaceous glands in the skin. It is good for all skin types and will nourish your skin to a deep level. Shea butter contains Vitamins A and E, which help maintain the skin and keep it clear and healthy. It is said to be beneficial for treating dry skin, blemishes, skin discoloration, scars and wrinkles. In addition to moisturization, the oleic acid in shea butter – up to 55% – offers regenerating, anti-inflammatory, and softening properties. In soap, it contributes to stable lather, conditioning, and a silky, slippery feel. MANGO BUTTER: Mango butter contains anti-oxidants which provide anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal benefits. It is well absorbed by the skin and is moisturizing and softening. Because of its astringent qualities, it is best suited for normal to oily skin. AVOCADO BUTTER is an exotic butter that is known to help moisturize and soften rough, dry and cracked skin.
