YOGA CLUB

According to Webster, Yoga is – in part – “a system of physical postures, breathing techniques, and sometimes meditation… practiced to promote physical and emotional well-being.” If that definition has piqued your interest, then the Sun City Summerlin Yoga Club could be for you.

The Club was founded in 1994 and has assisted both women and men to maintain and improve strength, flexibility, and balance, which are essential for healthy, active seniors.

Current Yoga Club members – women and men – range in age from their 50’s to 90’s. Members range in experience from beginners to veterans. All yoga instructors are professionally trained and certified. They take into account the differences in ability of Yoga participants, and offer suggestions to lessen or intensify the suggested poses.

Beginning June 1, the Yoga Club is expanding the variety of its classes to include three different types of Yoga: Hatha (traditional), Yin, and Gentle Yoga.

Ÿ Hatha Yoga – utilizes standing, seated, and lying poses to enhance participant’s strength, flexibility, and balance.

Ÿ Yin Yoga – is a quiet and contemplative practice. Yin utilizes only passive, longer held seated and lying down poses (3-5 minutes) aimed to calming and balancing the mind and reducing stress.

Ÿ Gentle Yoga – focuses on proper alignment and breathing. This class is perfect for beginners, for someone returning to yoga after an absence or coming out of PT, or simply wanting a gentler, slower practice.

Yoga classes vary in length and include 50- and 90-minute sessions. The classes are offered Monday through Saturday. You can participate in as many classes each week as you wish. The cost of classes is modest.
