Everything You Need to Know About Getting Braces On
Dr Vishal Sharma BSc, DDS, Cert. Ortho. FRCD(C), FCDS(BC)
T
he thought of getting braces on to achieve your dream smile is exciting but it can also be overwhelming when you’re not sure of what to expect. First, let us reassure you thatorthodontic treatment won’t drastically change your lifestyle, aside from the fact that when you’re finished, you’ll get a huge boost in confidence and oral health. In fact, the majority of our Abbotsford and Surrey braces patients are pleasantly surprised with how easy the process is and with the Aura Orthodontics team in your corner, you’ll have some fun while your new smile takes shape. Yet, we know you probably have a few questions like can you chew gum with braces? Or, how much do braces cost? We’ve got it covered with our guide to everything you need to know about getting braces on and breezing through treatment.
www.SAENTERTAINMENT.CA
How do Braces Work and What are the Different Types of Braces? First things first, what are braces and how do braces work? Well, dental braces are fixed orthodontic appliances, which means, unlike a removable treatment such as Invisalign (another amazing option), braces stay in place until we’re ready to take them off. With braces, we bond brackets to your teeth and then run archwires – one on the top and one on the bottom – through them and secure everything in place with tiny elastics or metal ties. This system of brackets and wires exerts gentle, steady pressure to move the teeth into their new positions. We sometimes use additional appliances or components like bands or

a power chain to provide the necessary connective forces to improve the relationship between the upper and lower jaw.
/saentertainmentnewsmagazine
Dental braces are designed to correct malocclusion, which is when the top and bottom teeth don’t come together correctly when you bite down. Types of malocclusion include crowding, an underbite, a crossbite, spacing or an overbite (overjet). The underlying cause of malocclusion can be skeletal or dental and only a certified specialist in orthodontics like Dr. Sharma or Dr. Lin can develop an accurate diagnosis and determine if getting braces on is the way to go for your smile. In the meantime, take our “Do I Need Braces?” quiz to get a good idea if they could be a possibility. As far as the types of braces, there’s something to suit everyone. Traditional metal braces are what most people think of. They’re made of stainless steel and have the usual brackets and archwires. They work really well for patients of all ages and can be effective in treating more complex cases. While they used to be a little unwieldy, thanks to innovations in orthodontic engineering, they’re smaller and more comfy than ever before, meaning no more stereotypical metal mouth look. Kids tend to like them because they have the option of using colorful elastics with their metal braces. Cont. on next Edition

rachi Desai, who will be seen in a dark urban fantasy film titled Kosha, says an actor is always open to experiment with new genres. Asked if she is looking for an image change with Kosha, Prachi told IANS: “There is nothing called image change since every script has a different appeal and Kosha is something that struck a chord with me on the script and characterisation level itself. An actor is always open to experimenting with new genres. The actress says an urban dark fantasy is something that she was looking to do. “Every film I believe takes something from
you or you end up giving something to it and ‘Kosha’ gave me the opportunity to explore a new side all together with action to colouring my hair purple,” she added. Kosha revolves around a disruptive girl who is a rock band member with a history of “alcohol and substance abuse.” Talking about her role, she said: “Yes, I will be seen playing a singer/rock star and I always was keen to learn an instrument. This film helped me pick up the guitar. It covers a real dark space of a rock star who is going through her own ups and downs in life and the film weaves the journey beautifully.” Courtesy: IANS
Entered Bollywood by chance: Jacqueline
Jacqueline Fernandez, who hails from Sri Lanka, says she always wanted to be an entertainer but didn’t plan getting into Bollywood. The actress an investor as well as “believer’ for Raw Pressery has penned down her thoughts about her journey in blog, which went live on International Women’s Day . “Since a very young age, I’ve always dreamt of being an entertainer. Wanting to tell stories, make everyone around me laugh. For me it was never about the films but the pure joy that comes with being an entertainer. That dream, that joy is something that had me drawn towards it,” Jacqueline said. “Entering Bollywood pretty much happened by chance. In Bollywood, it’s not just about entertaining, but also an artistic form of expression through dance, acting and dialogue that has the potential to stir

thousands of emotions. “Your audience relates to you. Lives the character through you. All the strength to live up to my dream of being an entertainer has come from constantly growing as a performer and to focus on my strengths. It might sound a little
too good to be true as you read, but believe me, once you start living by it, you’ll feel the difference yourself,” she added. Born to a Sri Lankan father and Malaysian mother, Jacqueline was raised in Bahrain. At the age of 14, she was hosting a fitness show. She moved
to Australia to attend college and then returned to Sri Lanka where she took up a reporting job. She made her debut in the Indian film industry with the 2009 film “Aladin”. The actress says her parents have been her biggest source of support even when her debut Bollywood film didn’t click at the box office. “In all my trying times, during the initial stages when I was unfamiliar with this vibrant city, that I now call home, or during my first stint in acting; I’ve always believed in my abilities and that really has made all the difference. It still astonishes me, how such a small change is able to get you through an entire trial and error phase and, put you right in front of your goals, however lofty they may be,” she said. Having a six-pack doesn’t mean you’re a ood actor: Saiyami Kher
M
irzya actor Saiyami Kher, a sports and fitness enthusiast, says she finds actor Akshay Kumar inspirational. While fitness is a way of life for Saiyami, who has played badminton and cricket professionally, she says it’s not necessarily a decisive factor for a career as an actor in the entertainment industry. “Looks and glamour are one part of the entertainment industry, but if you have a six-pack, it doesn’t mean that you’re a good actor. If you are doing an action film, you will need to physically look like an action hero. That’s when the physicality comes in; but to be an actor, body type is not important. “What’s important is how you act and if the character requires you to have a particular kind of a body, then one has to work on that,” Saiyami told IANS. She cited the examples of Bhumi Pednekar who first gained weight for Dum Laga Ke Haisha and then lost it for her subsequent projects, Randeep Hooda who went through drastic weight loss for Sarbjit and Aamir Khan who went through weight fluctuations for Dangal. “With regards to fitness, you definitely need to remain very fit because if you are fit, you will get to do more work. But in the entertainment industry, I don’t think that’s the only focus because obviously acting always remains the main focus. “I really look up to Akshay Kumar. He is tremendously fit and an inspiration.” Courtesy: IANS

JET LAG BOLLYWOOD
HOLLYWOOD

W
ith modern Aviation we all have travelled in Planes. Frequently we travel to South East Asian Countries such as India,Pakistan, Bangladesh etc. We usually cross 12 Time Zones during these Trips from Vancouver BC Jet lag, is a temporary sleep problem that can affect anyone who quickly travels across multiple time zones. Your body has its own internal clock, or circadian rhythms, that signals your body when to stay awake and when to sleep. Jet lag occurs because your body’s clock is still synced to your original time zone, instead of to the time zone where you’ve traveled. The more time zones crossed, the more likely you are to experience jet lag. Jet lag can cause daytime fatigue, an unwell feeling, difficulty staying alert and gastrointestinal problems. Jet lag is temporary, but it can significantly reduce your vacation or business travel comfort. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to help prevent or minimize jet lag. SYMPTOMS Symptoms of jet lag can vary. You may experience only one symptom or you may have many. Jet lag symptoms may include: 4 Disturbed sleep- such as insomnia, early waking or excessive sleepiness 4Daytime fatigue 4 Difficulty concentrating or functioning at your usual level 4 Stomach problems, constipation or diarrhea 4A general feeling of not being well 4Mood changes Symptoms worse the farther you travel Jet lag symptoms usually occur within a day or two of travel if you’ve traveled across at least two time zones. Symptoms are likely to be worse or last longer the more time zones that you’ve crossed, especially if you travel in an easterly direction. It usually takes about a day to recover for each time zone crossed. CAUSES A disruption to your circadian rhythms Jet lag can occur anytime you cross two or more time zones. Jet lag occurs because crossing multiple time zones puts your internal clock or circadian rhythms, which regulate your sleep-wake cycle, out of sync with the time in your new locale. For example, if you leave Vancouver on a flight at 2 p.m. on a Tuesday, and arrive in Delhi at 2 a.m. Wednesday, your internal clock still thinks it’s mid noon That means you’re awake when the Local people are tired to go to sleep And because it takes a few days for your body to adjust, your sleep-wake cycle, along with most other body functions, such as hunger and bowel habits, remains out of step with the rest of Delhi The influence of sunlight A key influence on your internal clock is sunlight. That’s because light influences the regulation of melatonin, a hormone that helps synchronize cells throughout the body. Certain cells in the tissue at the back of your eye (retina) transmit the light signals to an area of your brain called the hypothalamus. At night, when the light signal is low, the hypothalamus tells the pineal gland, a small organ situated in the brain, to release melatonin. During daylight hours, the opposite occurs, and the pineal gland produces very
22

little melatonin. You may be able to ease your adjustment to your new time zone by exposing yourself to daylight in the new time zone so long as the timing of light is done properly. Airline cabin pressure and atmosphere Some research shows that changes in cabin pressure and high altitudes associated with air travel may contribute to some symptoms of jet lag, regardless of travel across time zones. In addition, humidity levels are low in planes. If you don’t drink enough water during your flight, you can get slightly dehydrated. Dehydration may also contribute to some symptoms of jet lag. RISK FACTORS Factors that increase the likelihood you’ll experience jet lag include: 4 Number of time zones crossed. The more time zones you cross, the more likely you are to be jet-lagged. 4 Flying east. You may find it harder to fly east, when you “lose” time, than to fly west, when you gain it back. 4 Being a frequent flyer. Pilots, flight attendants and business travelers are most likely to experience jet lag. 4 Being an older adult. Older adults may need more time to recover from jet lag than do younger adults PREVENTION A few basic steps may help prevent jet lag or reduce its effects: 4 Arrive early. If you have an important meeting or other event that requires you to be in top form, try to arrive a few days early to give your body a chance to adjust. 4 Get plenty of rest before your trip. Starting out sleep-deprived makes jet lag worse. 4 Gradually adjust your schedule before you leave. If you’re traveling east, try going to bed one hour earlier each night for a few days before your departure. Go to bed one hour later for several nights if you’re flying west. If possible, eat meals closer to the time you’ll be eating them at your destination. 4 Regulate bright light exposure. Because light exposure is one of the prime influences on your body’s circadian rhythm, regulating light exposure may help you adjust to your new location. In general, exposure to light in the evening helps you adjust to a later than usual time zone (traveling westward), while exposure to morning light can help you adapt to an earlier time zone faster (traveling eastward). The one exception is if you have traveled more than eight time zones from your original time zone, because exposure to light in the early morning could be mistaken by your body as dusk. Conversely, evening light
might be interpreted as dawn. So, if you’ve traveled more than eight time zones to the east, wear sunglasses and avoid bright light in the morning, and then allow as much sunlight as possible in the late afternoon for the first few days in your new location. If you have traveled west by more than eight time zones, avoid sunlight a few hours before dark for the first few days to adjust to the local time. 4 Stay on your new schedule. Set your watch to the new time before you leave. Once you reach your destination, try not to sleep until the local nighttime, no matter how tired you are. Try to time your meals with local mealtimes too. 4 Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water before, during and after your flight to counteract the dehydrating effects of dry cabin air. Dehydration can make jet lag symptoms worse. Avoid alcohol and caffeine, as these can dehydrate you and affect your sleep. 4 Try to sleep on the plane if it’s nighttime at your destination. Earplugs, headphones and eye masks can help block out noise and light. If it’s daytime where you’re going, resist the urge to sleep. TREATMENT Jet lag is generally temporary and usually doesn’t need treatment. Symptoms often improve within a few days, though they sometimes last longer. However, if you’re a frequent traveler continually bothered by jet lag, your doctor may prescribe medications or light therapy. Medications 4 Nonbenzodiazepines, such as zolpidem (Ambien), eszopiclone (Lunesta) and zaleplon (Sonata) 4 Benzodiazepines, such as triazolam (Halcion) These medications — sometimes called sleeping pills — may help you sleep during your flight and for several nights afterward. Side effects are uncommon, but may include nausea, vomiting, amnesia, sleepwalking, confusion and morning sleepiness. Although these medications appear to help sleep duration and quality, they may not lessen daytime symptoms of jet lag. These medications are usually only recommended for people who haven’t been helped by other treatments. Light therapy Your body’s internal clock or circadian rhythms are influenced by exposure to sunlight, among other factors. When you travel across time zones, your body must adjust to a new daylight schedule and reset, allowing you to fall asleep and be awake at the appropriate times. Light therapy can help ease that transition. It involves exposing your eyes to an artificial bright light or lamp that simulates

sunlight for a specific and regular amount of time during the time when you’re meant to be awake. This may be useful, for example, if you’re a business traveler and are often away from natural sunlight during the day in a new time zone. Light therapy comes in a variety of forms including a light box that sits on a table, a desk lamp that may blend in better in an office setting or a light visor that you wear on your head. Sunlight Use sunlight to reset your internal clock. It’s the most powerful natural tool for regulating the sleep-wake cycle. Plan ahead to determine the best times for light exposure based on your departure and destination points and overall sleep habits. Morning light exposure can usually help you adjust to an earlier time zone (traveling eastward), while evening light helps you adapt to a later time zone (traveling westward). Combining light exposure with exercise such as walking or jogging may help you adapt to the new time even faster. Avoiding light at certain times is important too. For example, someone traveling west should avoid light in the morning on the first few days. During the day, dark glasses can help block out light. At night, draw the blinds or drapes in your hotel room or use a sleep mask. Caffeine Beverages with caffeine such as coffee, espresso and soft drinks may help offset daytime sleepiness. Drink caffeinated drinks judiciously. Avoid caffeinated beverages after midday since caffeine consumed after that time may make it even more difficult to fall asleep or sleep well. Alternative medicine Melatonin As a jet lag remedy and sleep aid, melatonin which is Available over the Counter has been widely studied, and it’s now a commonly accepted part of effective jet lag treatment. The latest research seems to show that melatonin aids sleep during times when you wouldn’t normally be resting, making it beneficial for people with jet lag. Your body treats melatonin as a darkness signal, and generally has the opposite effect of bright light. The time at which you take melatonin is important. If you’re trying to reset your body clock to a later time, such as after flying east, you should take melatonin at local bedtime nightly until you have become adapted to local time. If you’re trying to reset your body clock to an earlier time, such as after flying west, melatonin should be taken in the morning. Doses as small as few mg is effective , although higher doses have been shown by some studies to be more sleep promoting. If you use melatonin, take it 30 minutes before you plan to sleep or ask your doctor about the proper timing. Avoid alcohol when taking melatonin. Side effects are uncommon but may include dizziness, headache, daytime sleepiness, loss of appetite, and possibly nausea and disorientation. Additional possible remedies Although diet hasn’t been proven to help jet lag, some people use diets that alternate days of feasting and fasting and high-protein and low-protein meals. If such a diet seems too complicated, you can try eating more high-protein foods to stay alert and more carbohydrates when you want to sleep. Some people use exercise to try to ease the effects of jet lag.

natural ways to make your hair grow faster
W
ho doesn’t yearn for long lustrous hair? But often due to inadequate nourishment and damage, our natural hair growth is hindered. So what can we do so as to increase the pace of our hair growth? Just follow these simple tips and see the astounding results on your own. 1. Trimming to the rescue Yes, you heard it right. Regular trimming of hairs every eight to ten weeks ensures fast hair growth. What happens is that due to excessive dirt and sun, the end of the hair usually gets damaged and rough, inducing split ends. When you regularly trim your hair, those split ends get cut off, leaving your hair to breathe and grow without any hurdle. 2. Make conditioner your friend You might have noticed that often the ends of the hair are thinner and damaged when compared to the root end connecting to the scalp. This is because the lower end doesn’t get nourished well. Conditioning after every hair wash helps seal the cuticle at the end and prevents the hair from further damage. This makes your hair healthier; and healthier hair grows faster. 3. Relaxing hot oil massages A good hot oil massage can be a perfect stress buster for you. Massaging your hair with a good hot oil every week ensures that your hair is healthy and there are no more hair strands lying on your floor or brush. Try using coconut, olive or lavender oil so as to bring that beautiful luster to your hair and help you hair grow. 4. Regular brushing every night You must have heard that excessive brushing can cause hair fall and physically harm your hair. Well, not always. It simply depends on the brush your use. Using synthetic bristles can create friction in hair and thus actually damage hair. Instead, using the right brush such as the boar bristle brush can actually increase the blood circulation of the scalp. Make sure that you are combing your hair for at least 50 times before you retire for the night. Brushing the hair makes your roots stronger and hair grow faster. 5. Don’t wrap your wet hairs in towel Most of us have a habit of wrapping our wet hairs in a towel just after shampooing, little realizing about the drawbacks of this habit. Wet hair is prone to even more hair fall and wrapping them in a towel can make this even worse. Our hairs get rubbed with those massive towel fibers making those strands of hair to fall. Instead, go for a microfiber towel, if you simply can’t resist this habit. Courtsey: TNN

TRAVEL
A Girl in a Whirl Contd. from previous issue (Part 20) We changed our train back to Metro Town station after crossing some stations. I was unable to believe the cleanliness, warmth and plenty of light in the train. We got off the train. I had enjoyed myself a lot traveling by the train. Then we strolled through the mall. Sam bought a jean and a jacket for himself. When we went to the parking, we forgot where we had parked our car. We could find it after a lot of huffing and puffing. Sam told me if we didn’t remember the parking and stall numbers, it would happen so. I was very happy that day. I thought I would call mom and dad and tell everyone how beautiful Canada was. Even edible stuff was taken care of like goldsmiths take care of jewelry in Ludhiana. There were no flies or mosquitoes. How different and beautiful Vancouver was from Ludhiana! 24. Tide turned against me We reached home by 9 P.M. My mom-in-law seemed horribly mad. “Sam! Listen to me.”, saying so, she took Sam upstairs. I went to the washroom. I used the one beside the living room. “Sonia, come upstairs!”, Sam yelled so loudly that I was awfully shocked even sitting in the washroom. I quickly finished and went into my room upstairs where badly-infuriated Sam and

his mother were waiting for me. I was shocked to see them so much angry. “Why did you take so much time?”, Sam asked me in an extremely rude tone. “I…I was in the washroom.”, I replied surprisingly. Sam slapped me so hard that I felt everything dark and revolving around me. “What’s this?”, Sam asked showing me the charm I had brought from India. I had just opened mouth to speak the truth that Sam slapped me a second time even harder than before. Sam’s slap was so hard that I couldn’t control my pee despite coming back from washroom. “Chachi was saying that you and your mom were visiting some pandit in the Chaura Bazaar of Ludhiana. Is it true?”, Sam asked me grinding his teeth. “Sam, just listen to the complete reality.”, I entreated before Sam. “Who are you planning to mingle with here right from India? You had hidden this under my pillow to kill me? Luckily my mom remained alert. God knows whom you were going to kill in our family! You whore! You witch! What hadn’t I done for you? Tell me who your lover is in Canada. Where does he live? I’ll chop the bastard’s legs…”, Sam leveled several false allegations of disloyalty against me and almost broke my face and ribs with his rock-hard punches. “I and Daljit just got an
/saentertainmentnewsmagazine
opportunity to rummage through your room. I took it out from your pillow in Daljit’s presence. Your dad had been warning us for long that we should find a nice family. I, like a fool, fell into his bhua’s trap who claimed the girl was very nice and the family was very decent.”, my mother-in-law kept yapping like a bitch. None of them listened to me. Sam smacked me almost half-dead. “Come on, bibi. I’ll see what to do with this bitch.”, Sam again hollered. “What to do, make her a mother as soon as possible so that she stays at our home. If she eloped from here, we wouldn’t be able to face anyone in the society. Thank god she didn’t flee from the airport or we had to suffer terrible embarrassment. I had pledged to god that she should reach our home without any hassle. I kept my promise on the way home from the airport taking her to the gurdwara and paying my obeisance there.”, my mother-in-law screamed. Both of them went out of the room. My ears and cheeks were hot from Sam’s slaps. My side ribs were aching from his strong punches. “Damn the pandit! May god curse you! Your charm had my ribs broken. If this charm were not there, I wouldn’t be in this condition. What the heck time I hid the charm in the pillow! Why didn’t I throw it away then? O’ pandit! Your charm has ruined me.”, I kept cursing the pandit. Contd. in next issue

Wonder Woman 2: Kristen Wiig confirmed as the villain Kristen Wiig
T
he sequel to 2017 film Wonder Woman is the most awaited DCEU film at the moment. To keep up the anticipation, director Patty Jenkins gave the audience an exciting bit of news. Saturday Night Live alumna Kristen Wiig is all set to play the villain, Cheetah, in the sequel. Patty Jenkins tweeted, “So excited to confirm the most thrilling news. Yes! It’s true! So incredibly lucky to welcome the sensationally talented Kristen Wiig to our Wonder Woman family. Can’t wait to finally work with one of my favorites. And SO excited by what we have planned. #Cheetah!!! @GalGadot”. To this, Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot tweeted, “I’m SO excited welcome on board Kristen! This is going

to be WONDERful!” In the comics, Cheetah and Wonder Woman are enemies and both are quite the competitors. Diana, on the other hand, sees Cheetah who is lost and needs to be saved. The film’s story will focus on Cheetah and we will probably get to see her backstory as well. Kristen Wiig is known for her comic timing, thanks to the years she spent at Saturday Night Live. The actor has also appeared in films like Bridesmaids, Ghostbusters and The Martian. Her lead role in Bridesmaids got her a lot of attention. Like the first part, the sequel is also being helmed by director Patty Jenkins. The film is already in the works and is scheduled to release in November 2019. Courtsey: Indian express

Danny Boyle confirms directing Bond 25
A
fter much speculation, Danny Boyle has finally confirmed that he will be directing the next film in the James Bond franchise, Bond 25. In an interview with metro.us, Boyle spoke about his upcoming ventures. At the special screening of his new FX show Trust in New York, Boyle said, “We are working on a script right now. And it all depends on that really. I am working on a Richard Curtis script at the moment. We hope to start shooting that in 6 or 7 weeks. Then Bond would be right at the end of the year. But we are working on them both right now.” The Richard Curtis script, All You Need Is Love will be Boyle’s next project and he will then proceed with Bond 25. He further said, “We’ve got an idea,
John Hodge, the screenwriter, and I have got this idea, and John is writing it at the moment. And it all depends on how it turns out. It would be foolish of me to give any of it away.” Danny Boyle gained international recognition after his film Slumdog Millionaire won eight Academy Awards in 2008. The last film of the Bond series, Spectre released in 2015 and earlier, there were strong speculations if Daniel Craig would continue playing the coveted character. Daniel Craig started playing James Bond with the 2006 film Casino Royale and it is said that Bond 25 will be his last film with the franchise. Bond 25 is expected to release in November 2019. Kristen Stewart to play Jean Seberg in Against All Enemies Kristen Stewart
A
ctor Kristen Stewart has joined the cast of political thriller Against All Enemies. Stewart, 27, will play the role of actor Jean Seberg in the film, which will also feature Jack O’Connell, Anthony Mackie, Margaret Qualley and Colm Meaney, reported Variety. The film’s story is inspired by true events about the Breathless pixie who in the late 1960s was targeted by the illegal FBI surveillance program Cointelpro. It will be directed by Benedict Andrews, while the script has been penned by Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse. Seberg, an American actor who spent half her life in France, was a darling of the French New Wave. Because of her political and romantic involvement with civil rights activist Hakim Jamal (to be

Seberg acted in dozens of films including Saint Joan, Bonjour Tristesse, Breathless, and The Mouse That Roared. She died in 1979 in France. The film will be produced by Fred Berger and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones along with Kate Garwood, Stephen Hopkins and Andrew Levitas. Meanwhile, Kristen would be seen in two films this year, Underwater and JT LeRoy. Both the films, directed by William Eubank and Justin Kelly, respectively, are undergoing post-production process.

Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik confirm breakup
G
igi Hadid and Zayn Malik confirmed on social media that their romance is over. The 22-year-old model and 25-year-old musician each posted on Twitter about the end of their two-year relationship. Hadid wrote that she is “forever grateful for the love, time and life lessons” she and Malik shared, adding that “there is really no way to put into words what two people experience together over a few years.” “I want nothing but the best for him and will continue to support him as a friend that I have immense respect and love for. As for the future, whatever’s meant to be will always be,” she continued. Malik said the two “had an incredibly meaningful, loving and fun relationship” and that he continues to respect and adore Hadid “as a woman and a friend.” The singer went on to
thank his fans for respecting the difficult decision. He wrote, “I’m grateful to all of our fans for respecting this difficult decision and our privacy at this time, we wish this news could have come from us first.” The reason behind the split is unclear. Hadid is a supermodel who has been featured by Versace, Fendi, Balmain and other high-end brands. Malik is a singer and former member of the band One Direction. Earlier, the two celebrities battled rumours of their break-up in 2016 after eight-nine months of dating each other. The two first sparked romance rumors in November 2015 when they stepped out together at an American Music Awards after party. Soon, the two became the most sought-after couple of the industry. How much sugar should we eat per day… Part 3 (4.2 kg) more than a control diet over 18 weeks. The vegan group was allowed to eat until fullness, but the control group had to restrict calories. That’s’ why, vegan diets are more effective for weight loss than other diets when.Being Plant-based thisdiet have been linked with a reduced risk of heart disease, type 2 and 3 diabetes and premature death. The downside: Vegan diets eliminate animal foods completely, so they may be low in several nutrients. This includes vitamin B12, vitamin D3, iodine, iron, calcium, zinc and omega-3 fatty acids.

here are manytypes of diets out there. Some focus on reducing appetite, while others focus on restricting calories, carbs or fat. Some are to control Blood Pressure (DASH DIET) or Diabetes (Low Carb High Fat-unsaturated- Diet). The confusing part is all of them claim to be “the best” diet. Resultantly, we the consumers, feel hapless and helpless to know which ones are worth trying. The truth is that our bodies are unique. No one diet is best for everyone, and what works for me may not entirely work for you.Everyone needs to decide by eating stuff and decide by trial and error method. Through this article we will delve deep into the various types of diets and decide whether they are good, bad or ugly for us: The Paleo Diet The term, paleo diet, is also referred as caveman diet or stoneage diet. The paleo diet claims that modern humans should eat the same foods that their hunter-gatherer ancestors ate — the way humans were genetically designed to eat before agriculture start developing in the year 1890. While there is wide variability in the way the paleo diet is interpreted; the diet typically includes vegetables, fruits, nuts, roots, and meat. Itdoes not include foods such as dairy products, grains, sugar, legumes, processed oils, salt, alcohol or coffee.. Paleo diet is based on avoiding processed foods. There is some evidence thatthis diet lead to some improvements in terms of body composition and metabolic effects compared with the typical Western diet.. Present day research confirms that most modern diseases can be linked to the Western diet and the
Always eat stomach full. Eat your Breakfast like a Prince, your Lunch like a King and your supper like a pauper. The only rider is avoiding simple carbohydrates and restrict complex carbohydrates to 60 gm per day plus lavish amount of protein and unsaturated fat. This is a healthy thing to do.

consumption of grains, dairy and processed / repackaged foods. Since 2012 the Paleolithic diet has been recommended by few Doctors. Resultantly, it has become one of the “latest trends” in diets. Based on the popularity of thisdiet it wasGoogle’s most searched- diet for healthy eating with weight-loss in particular. When you are following the Paleo Diet, you can eat anything we could hunt and/or gather way back in aday i.e.things like meats, fish, nuts, leafy greens, regional veggies, and seeds. Sorry, the pasta, cereal, and candy have no place in it. Anything that didn’t exist in caveman times will not be existing on your plate or in your stomach, as per the proponents of this study. The paleo diet emphasizes whole foods, lean protein, vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds, while avoiding processed foods, i.e. sugar, dairy and grains. Some more flexible versions of the paleo diet do allow for dairy like cheese and butter, as well as tubers like potatoes and sweet potatoes. Many studies have shown that the paleo diet can lead to significant weight loss and reduced waist size. Paleo dieters automatically eat much fewer carbs, more protein and 300–1000 fewer calories per day. The Upside: This diet seems effective at reducing risk factors for heart disease, such as cholesterol, blood sugar, blood triglycerides and blood pressure. The downside: The paleo diet eliminates whole grains, legumes and dairy. Therefore, it unnecessarily eliminates several healthy and nutritious food groups. The Vegan Diet: Since a vegetarian may eat some animal products like dairy and eggs, a vegan diet follower eats absolutely no animal products, including any foods that have come from an animal – including things like honey. Generally, the foods that normally appear in healthy vegan diet every day include, wholegrains, Vegetables,
Some diets focus on reducing your appetite, while others focus on restricting calories, carbs or fat. Though all of them claim to be number one, yet it is hard to decide which one is healthy, worth a try and not a fad diet. Fruits, Legumes and lentils/pulses and seeds Healthy fats like olive oil and avocado. The logic of doing so is the known health benefits of including more plant foods and reducing animal foods from the diet. Needless to add that diseases are also coming out of farmed animal products. Plus, environmental reasons and the treatment and harm that may come to the animals in processing are also there. People with vegan diet need to balance their daily nutritional intake because many essential nutrients can be missing in vegan diet, which can cause serious health implications in the long term. More often than not, some of those nutrients simply can’t be met in the diet alone, and we need dietarysupplements to fill in those nutritional gaps.Vegans may lack nutrients in their diet viz. Calcium ,Iron. Omega 3 fatty acids, Protein, Vitamin B12. Veganism is the strictest form of vegetarianism. In addition to eliminating meat, it excludesdairy, eggs and animalderived products, such as gelatin, honey, albumin, whey, casein and some forms of vitamin D3. Promotes Weight loss: A vegan diet seems to be very effective at helping people lose weight. A person can eat stomach full - often without counting calories. This may be explained by its very low fat and high fiber content, which makes you feel fuller for longer. One study showed that a vegan diet helped participants lose 9.3 lbs
Low-Carb Diets Low-carb diets have been popular for many decades, especially forweight lossor Diabetics and other Circulatory Diseases. There are several types of low-carb diets, but all of them involve limiting carb intake to 20–150 grams of net carbs [total Carbs- Fibre] per day. The main aim of the diet is to compel the body to use more fats for fuel, instead of using carbs as a main source of energy. When carbohydrates are less in the body, then body start using fat and when fat is used/ burned for energy. we lose weight and start staying healthy. We are overweight or obese due to accumulation of eaten unhealthy saturated fat. Low-carb diets are based on eating unlimited amounts of protein and fat (unsaturated preferably), while severely limiting carb intake. When carb intake is very low, fatty acids are moved into the blood and transported to the liver, where some of them are turned into ketones. The body can then use fatty acids and ketones in the absence of carbs as its primary energy source. Low-carb diets tend to reduce your appetite and make you feel less hungry, leading to an automatic reduction in calorie intake. Furthermore, low-carb diets may benefit many major disease risk factors, such as blood triglycerides, cholesterol levels, blood sugar levels, insulin levels and blood pressure. Low-carb diets do not suit everyone. Some may feel great on them, while others may feel miserable. Check yourself by trial and error method.Numerous studies show low-carb diets are extremely helpful for weight loss, especially in overweight and obese individuals. Cont. in next edition

5 ways your phone is ruining your skin
M
obile phones can no longer pass off as a luxury. Millennial or not, in today’s techsavvy world they are an absolute necessity. However, there’s a copious amount of addiction attached to it as well. Whether you’ve caught yourself mindlessly scrolling through Instagram, or constantly refreshing your Facebook and Twitter feeds, we can all admit that our phones have practically joined forces with our limbs to form one bionic monster. While we all know the adverse effects of cell phones on our internal systems, very few people know its consequences on one essential part of the body – and that’s the skin.
once again, simply cover your phone with a plastic sleeve when in use. This prevents direct contact of the phone against your skin. 5. Premature ageing Think you’re too young to start showing the early signs of ageing? Well, blame your cell phone for it. Anything that emits high energy light, like your TV, computer screen, and mobile phone, can result in collagen damage. Courtsey: FEMINA .
Here are 5 ways in which your smartphone is ruining your skin. 1. Tech-Neck When you constantly look down on your phone, you develop something that is now coined as ‘tech-neck’. Caused by the repetitive movement, the elasticity of the skin around the neck decreases resulting in a slight sag. To fix this, make sure to adjust your posture each time you look at your phone. Don’t let your neck hang, and keep it upright instead. 2. Acne A cell phone is breeding ground for bacteria. Think about it, it’s thrown in your bag, it’s exposed to dust and dirt, each time you put it against your face it collects sebum and grime, so obviously it becomes party central. And that party is moved onto your skin whenever you answer a call. Disgusting, right? In order to avoid transference of bacteria, make sure to wipe your screen whenever you use it. Try and use an earpiece to answer calls and avoid touching it against your skin. 3. Spots Studies have shown that overexposure to the light from your screens can result in premature hyperpigmentation and age spots, causing skin to look uneven and damaged. Once again, use your earphones instead of placing your phone against your cheek. 4. Contact dermatitis You know how your wrist turns red after wearing a watch for a long time? Similarly, your phone can also do that to you. Phones are made out of heavy metals that obviously consist of harsh chemicals. Exposure to these chemicals can result in skin allergies and rashes. If you’ve ever experienced itchiness or redness across your jawline, you might be allergic to your phone! Besides using your earphones

Super visa Sandeep Ahuja
F
or faster family reunification, Citizenship and Immigration Canada has introduced wonderful tool for us which is called Super Visa for parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents in Canada. Earlier it was a dream to call them near us as many of citizens & permanent residents live far from their parents because there were many formalities which was not possible for each person, also wait time was almost seven to eight years for parental sponsorship, but now we are very fortunate by meeting few formalities our parents and grandparents can come to us within eight weeks (sometimes, it can be longer up to two months) It is a multiple entry visa 4It is valid for up to 10 years 4Family members can stay up to 24 months at a time Requirements: 4For Super Visa there are major 2 requirements. 41- Income ( Eligibility LICO chart is available in CIC site )
42- $100,000 Insurance coverage Super –Visa Insurance is most important factor of granting super visa, as we understand in Canada medical services are very expansive for those people who are not covered by Canadian health system, Some time few people hesitate to buy Super visa Insurance due to its cost . We should remember one thing when we were kids, our parents never compromised on our health due to expense, now it’s our time to pay back and cover them with best coverage plans available in market, instead of looking for the cheapest plans. Unexpected medical emergency in a foreign country can cost thousands of dollars. A travel Insurance plan can help you save on: 4Emergency medical attention 4Emergency dental treatment
4Expenses related to death 4Emergency medical return home 4Additional expenses for meals and hotel
4Visit to bedside if travelling alone 4Childcare expenses 4Coverage for paramedical services 4Return of children 4Ambulance transportation 4How much Insurance need Applicants for the Super Visa must provide evidence that they have Canadian medical insurance coverage for at least one year for a minimum
of $100,000 coverage. This is a requirement that must be fulfilled before applying for a Super Visa. When applying for Canadian medical insurance coverage, an applicant must truthfully answer all questions in the application. Failure to do so can invalidate the policy. If there is a medical question that is unclear, the applicant’s doctor should be consulted to correctly answer the question. Once a visitor obtains their insurance it is also important to follow the rules of their insurance policy to report a claim. Not following the rules and procedures can invalidate a claim, so it is important to read the insurance policy and get all your questions answered before you travel. From where to to buy It is very important to buy super visa insurance you choose from insurance advisors who are experienced and having multiple options because sometimes as a first time buyer we don’t know each and every benefit. Benefits and cost differ from company to company, so it’s advisable to buy from advisors who all full time in this job and have proper office and provide you after sales service. In these days, most important thing is time and time is money. If we choose right advisor it saves lots of time and money as well, also give us satisfaction.

Some brilliant ways to reuse your expired make-up
N
o matter whichever brand you are using, make-up products come with a shelf life, and can invite several skin infections if used after the expiry date. But that does not mean you have to toss these expensive beauties into the dustbin, or out of your makeup kit. Here are some smart hacks to reuse your expired make-up products.
1. Mascara 6 brilliant ways to reuse your expired make-up Mascara generally expires in three to six months but trashing it is a big NO. You can use its spoolie to tame your unruly brows or fuzzy flyaways. And in case, you notice a grey hair popping out, your expired mascara is there for your rescue. In fact, you can make your own DIY lip scrub using it. Just put some drops of natural oil on your mascara wand and gently scrub your lips with it.

The result? Get ready to say hello to smooth, supple lips! 2. Eye Shadow It’s wise to replace your eye shadow with new ones after a year. Wondering what to do with the old one? Mix its pigments with a clear nail polish, and flaunt your new customised nail paint. 3. Skin Toner Most of the skin toners have high amounts of alcohol and once expired can be used to clean glass, mirror, and even your mobile screen. 4. Lip Balm Your beauty balm can be put into some really good uses. It can help to keep your feet blister free and also, can be used to keep cuticles clean. Plus, it can fix your stuck zipper, and is a smart product to keep your shoes sparkling. Courtsey:TNN

7 Expert-Approved Tips To Pull Off Red Lipstick
sk any beauty editor or makeup artist about a classic makeup look and red lipstick will undeniably be a part of it. And why wouldn’t it be - it’s rich, intense and looks good on every skin tone...when worn well, that is. You see, when it comes to that elegant rouge tube, it isn’t as easy as applying it and heading out of the door. No siree, with red lipstick there’s a lot of care you need to take before and after applying it. Luckily for you, we spoke to Mansi Mehta Kothari, Makeup Artist and Creative Director, Makeup at MyGlamm to impart her wisdom with us. So if you’re apprehensive about pulling off a fiery red lip, theseseven makeup tips are all you need to know. 1. Know Your Undertone Just as you would choose foundation and concealer based on how cool or warm your skin undertone is, you must do the same when it comes to red lipstick. For skin with cool pink undertones, bright fire-truck reds look lovely. For warmer yellow undertones which is usually medium to dusky skin, deeper reds like brick to crimson shades really pop against the skin. 2. Easy On The Eyes Says Mansi, “When you wear red lipstick, ensure that you keep your
skin tone all around your natural lip line and slightly inside the edges of your lip. Once it has dried, move on to lipstick.” This works as a primer to remove any traces of pigmentation and prevents lipstick from bleeding outside.
eye makeup clean and minimal. Neat winged liner with a flick at the end is classic choice to wear.” Red lips are attention-grabbing in themselves and don’t need the drama of heavy eye makeup so definitely no smokey eyes. Even just concealed eyes with a few coats of mascara looks fantastic with red lips. 3. Choose Blush Right Even if poppy pink tones are usually your shades of choice when applying blush, they’ll prove to be a clash of colour when wearing red lipstick. “Along with red lips, keep your blush neutral toned and close to the shade of your own skin. Terracota to bronze toned blush is an ideal choice for this look”, advises Mansi. 4. Take Your Pick
Once you’ve decided to wear red lips, take your pick whether you’d like to opt for a juicy glossy finish or a stark matte one. This is because the rest of your face depends on the finish of your lips. Here’s what Mansi has to say - “If you’ll be wearing matte lipstick, make sure your face is hydrated and dewy. If it’s glossy lips that you are going for, then your skin should be mattified.” This ensures that there’s a balance of finishes across the face, without looking too harshly matte or greasily glossy. 5. Make It Pop Especially if you have pigmented lips, the rich red colour showing up on your lips can be problematic. To make sure they truly pop, follow this makeup tip from Mansi. “Apply a thin layer of concealer that matches your
6. Colour In The Lines Red lipstick is unforgivable when it comes to application because it requires clean, precise application. Ideally, a red lip liner can be helpful as a starting step to first draw the natural lip line and fill it in. If you’re unsure about applying lipstick directly, a lip brush can give you more control over the colour. Word of advice though, don’t try this when you’re running late and sitting in the back of a cab. 7. Apply It Now once you’ve taken all the precautions, here’s how Mansi advises red lipstick by applied properly - “First apply a layer of lip balm to your lips, leave it for two minutes and dab it off with tissue. Then use matching lip liner to line your natural lip shape and fill it in. Apply lipstick over this, dust a bit of translucent powder over it and finally, finish off with another coat of red lipstick.” Now you won’t need to shy away from red lipstick any longer. First date outfit tips to make the right impression
T
he thought of a first date can give one butterflies in the stomach as there is equal amounts of excitement and nervousness to meet someone new and also to make a good impression. One of the key things that we wish to get right is our outfit, after all, we wouldn’t be pleased if our date turns up dressed shabbily. We give you a lowdown on tips and ideas for selecting an outfit for your first date. Wear something that you can easily carry off You can wear the simplest of clothes and own it because you love the way you look in them and are totally comfortable carrying them off. If you aren’t into wearing short dresses and suddenly wear one for your first date, you are likely to be more nervous and conscious. So, we suggest that you choose something that you’ve worn before and know how you look and feel in it. Pick something flattering for your figure We all have one feature about our body that we absolutely love and don’t mind flaunting. For instance, for some women, it is their flat tummy, for others, it is their arms, and for many it is their legs. Whether you have a toned body or not, choose something that you think is flattering for your figure and accentuates your best feature. It could be a simple crop top and skirt, a maxi dress or even a kurta. Dress according to the place It is always a good idea to dress according to where you are going for your date. If it is at a café, keep it casual instead of dressing up to the T. If it is a movie date, you may want to carry a jacket or a shrug in case it gets chilly. And if you are meeting him in a pub or club, you could go all out and wear your sexiest dress. This will help you be more comfortable too. Choose the right shoes Once you have the outfit figured out, it is time to choose the right shoes too. Again, give importance to comfort. High heels do look good but if you aren’t comfortable walking in them, avoid wearing them. Opt for kitten heels or wedges instead. Flats or ballerinas are also great options if your look is casual-chic. Don’t forget your signature style We all have a signature style that defines us as we love it so much that we repeat it every few days. When you are getting ready for your first date, make sure you don’t forget this as it adds a personal touch to your look. It could be anything like wearing hoop earrings, a stole around your neck, a jacket, or chunky accessories. Trust us, your date will remember this as it is a part of your personality.

Trump’s biggest fans? Canadian universities
C
anadian universities are seeing a surge in applications from overseas students, with the country’s liberal, migrant-friendly image appearing to be an important attraction. Students who might once have headed for the United States now seem to be reconsidering and seeing Canada as a North American alternative. The University of Toronto, one of Canada’s top-ranked universities, has seen interest rising sharply, including a 57% increase in applications from India. This interest has converted into acceptances, says the university - with an overall 20% increase in overseas students accepting places for the autumn. Wilfrid Laurier University says it has had a 32% increase in overseas students and McMaster University has seen an annual rise of 33%. This is a valuable market, with overseas students bringing in tuition fees and local spending power. A study last week suggested that overseas students were worth $36bn (£28bn) per year to the US economy.
“The US political climate might indeed be one reason why more students are choosing to come to Montreal and Canada generally.” The idea of an “open and welcoming city” has a strong appeal to students coming to Montreal, she says. “They can have a North American study experience here, in a safe environment.”
Best student city This year saw Montreal getting top place in the QS Best Student Cities rankings, replacing Paris which had been in first place for the four previous years. Among the measures were Montreal’s access to employers, safety, pollution, desirability for student life and sense of tolerance. Another advantage for this part of
Canada is that it can offer courses in both English and French. There is also a rising stream of US students heading to Canada. Apart from any political considerations, those heading over the border will also be attracted by tuition fees, which can be cheaper for US students than studying at home, even at overseas student rates. But the US university system remains a powerful magnet for overseas students, with numbers rising to more than a million students last year, with almost 330,000 from China alone. This annual increase, up by about 7% in 2016, was valued as being worth another £3bn to the US economy. By Sean Coughlan Education correspondent
Tolerant image But Canadian universities are seizing an opportunity from the Trump administration in the US and the Brexit vote in the UK to present themselves as a more outwardlooking alternative. There are more than 350,000 overseas students already in Canada, with research from the Canadian Bureau for International Education suggesting that the image of a “tolerant and non-discriminatory society” is a major attraction. Perception is a powerful force in this market and Canadian universities are contrasting their warmer welcome to international students with the tough messages on immigration being transmitted by the Trump administration. The University of Montreal has set up its own travel fund for its international students who would once have attended conferences in the US, but now face difficulties getting into the country. An Iranian student who says he spent two hours being “interrogated” at a US airport was among those who would be funded to go to conferences elsewhere. International cities Professor Ted Sargent, responsible for the University of Toronto’s international outreach, says the response of overseas students to such changes in the US has been to “go back to first principles”. “Events in the US and the UK have reverberated around the world,” he says. “It makes people go back and think again.” Canada can offer top-ranked universities, he says, but the country is also sending a “message about being open to the world”. Prof Sargent says that half of the population of Toronto is non-Canadian born and that Canada’s strategy has been to “attract the brightest and the best” from around the world. A spokeswoman for the University of Montreal says: “Of course, it is also difficult to ignore what is going on south of our border.
