AVOID THESE MISTAKES WHILE INVESTING FOR YOUR CHILD Insurance
We, as parents remain concerned about the bright future of our children, and we want to ensure that they receive the best education. To fulfil our dreams for our children, it’s vital that we invest for them wisely, and should avoid certain mistakes as discussed below:
6
Delaying the investment RESP is a great investment opportunity which enables you to save for the education of your child. It would be better if without any delay, you start investing early as it will give your investment the maximum time to grow. Improper utilization of the available grant funds We are indeed lucky to be in the wonderful nation Canada where the government understands the importance of healthy growth of children, and it generously supports parents in this endeavour by providing them a tax-free Universal child care benefit. The maximum Canada child benefit you could get is $6,765 per year for children under 6, and $5,708 per year for children aged 6 to 17. Your Canada child benefit is based on your family income from the previous year, the number of children in your care, and the age of your children (source: Government of Canada, Jan. 27, 2020). Parents can very effectively utilize this financial benefit by investing it in RESP. To further support parents in this savings initiative, for an annual deposit of $2500 in their child’s RESP, the government of Canada deposits $500 into this RESP account with a lifetime maximum limit of $7200. Besides, it provides catch-up provisions to parents who are unable to deposit the maximum amount in any given year. Along with that, an additional amount of CESG is available for eligible children from middle- and low-income families. You need to utilize these grants for maximum permissible benefit. Lack of understanding about how an investment works Before you make any decision, it is very important to do a thorough research about available investments as it ensures that you: www.entertainmentmagazine.ca
ed advantage is- the capital that you have contributed (not the grants or the money made from the grants) can be used for any purpose as per your need. It is evident that a wisely decided appropriate amount of investment for your child’s post-secondary education will ensure the growth of funds in the best possible manner, which will be readily available when you need them for the intended purpose.
4 understand the risks asso-
ciated with the investment, including the potential losses or returns; 4 consider how it fits in your existing portfolio; and, 4 know the amount of fees/ any penalties for early withdrawal that you will pay Avoiding shopping around for an advisor As a first time investor, we feel inclined to approach the same advisor who is being consulted by our parents, friends or relatives. But here, it is important to understand that the advisor that’s right for someone else may not be right for you. You need to choose the advisor as per your needs, the type of clients he/she works with and how involved you want to be in your investing decisions. Improper Attention to Fees You need to understand the fees you pay when you invest as they reduce your return. Before making an investment, ask questions and evaluate the available options. For instance, two investments may carry similar risk and expected return, but one may have higher fees – all else being equal, the fees would affect your returns. Not making optimum use of RESP as an investment
account It is a proven fact that among the asset classes, equities provide the highest longterm rate of return. An early investment into an RESP will let your stocks grow for 18 years or more. Irregular monitoring of your account statements To show the activity in your account and provide an update on your investments, your financial institution sends you monthly or quarterly account statements via mail or makes them available online. It’s essential that you examine your statements to confirm: 4 That the investments that you have bought and sold are correct. 4 The fees and commissions charged on the investment are correct. 4 The amount of gain/loss of your investments.

Anupam Kher plays Jayaprakash Narayan in Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’
B
ollywood actor Anupam Kher will be seen portraying the character of politician Jayaprakash Narayan in Kangana Ranaut directorial, ‘Emergency’. Jayaprakash Narayan was among the prominent leaders who stood against the Emergency.
Anupam says: “Kangana’s interpretation of J. P. Narayan is 12 fascinating. She believes and it’s also the truth that J. P. Narayan is a hero of the film not just because I am playing the character but because that’s what he was. Her treatment of the character is like that of a hero.” He goes on: “As far as essaying the role is concerned, even though I did my own research, Kangana made my job easy by providing me with her interpretation and the homework that she had done.” “That’s why it was easy to step into the shoes of J. P. Narayan.
When you have a director, who knows his or her job, it becomes easy for an actor to follow those instructions and perform. Of course, there is hard work that goes into it but I am very happy that I am essaying the role of a historical figure who changed the scenario of independent India,” he adds. Narayan was the most powerful human being to have happened after Mahatma Gandhi in politics in recent Indian history. The kind of influence he had on people was enor-
mous. I wanted an actor who had the personality and calibre to match up to that larger than life persona of Loknayak J. P. Narayan.” “Anupamji with his stature, acting skills, his overall persona fits into the role perfectly. I am privileged and humbled that he chose my script. I am nobody to choose him. He chose my script and I am honoured, to say the least,” she concludes. By: IANS

All you need to know about dementia in dogs 18
In this month’s article, we will be discussing a common condition found in canines, known as “Canine Cognitive Dysfunction Syndrome”. In simple terms, one can refer to this condition as Dog Dementia as well. Yes, this is similar to the condition that we can see in humans, as they also age with time.
T
his syndrome correlates with the aging of the dog’s brain, which causes them to eventually lose their sharp
awareness of their surroundings, learning capabilities, responsiveness and even memory.
The symptoms will first appear to be of a mild state; however, they will progress with time and unfortunately worsen and become more severe. This process is known as ‘Cognitive Decline’. The signs of this condition are anxiety, restlessness, not wishing to play anymore, slow to learn new training, disorientation, decreased grooming, confusion, forgetting previous training, no control over urinating or defecating, sleep patterns
altered, decreased appetite, excessive licking, frustration and barking. According to statistics, it is seen that at least one out of every three dogs that are over the age of ten will display at least one sign of Canine Cognitive Dysfunction Syndrome. If you feel that your dog may be showing any of these signs, then your veterinarian can perform a full physical examination. He or she will also need a full history of when the symptom(s) initially presented themselves, in order to conduct a proper diagnosis of this condition. Other diagnostic measures may also be performed in order to rule out any other underlying causes for such exhibiting signs. Canines that are diagnosed with Dog Dementia will then begin a long-term treatment of supportive care for this condition. Such care will consist of improving your dog’s living environment and health in order to maintain an ideal condition for improvement. This will allow the Cognitive Decline to
be delayed and not progress as quickly otherwise. Changes in exercise routine, playing time and also training, or needing to train again, will be introduced as well. Other adjustments that can be made to facilitate a dog with this condition is to provide night lights for your canine companion to navigate throughout the house easier in the dark. Place training pads near your dog so that there is a place for him or her to use the washroom in case of an emergency, where they cannot control their urination or bowel movement. Certain medications or behavioural treatments may also be advised by your veterinarian based on the individual case of your pet. Diet is also a key component to managing a better lifestyle. Certain supplements can also be added to the diet regiment in order to help with your dog’s cognitive function. Such as: Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Selenium, Beta Carotene, Carotenoids, Flavonoids, Omega-3 and Carnitine. Follow-up appointments with your veterinarian may be needed regularly.
If you feel that your dog may be showing any of the signs mentioned above, then you must take him to your veterinarian for a full physical examination. By: Dr. Sifti Bhullar

Seven common blunders while curling your hair
Styling your own hair is not as simple as it appears. When using hot tools, it’s easy to get into the habit of doing something that could be damaging your strands without even 19 realizing it. f you curl your own hair frequently, you’ll want to avoid these blunders as much as possible shared by Rayed Merchant, Spokesperson, Ikonic Professional.
If you don’t use a heat protectant beforehand, you’ll burn yourself You should use a heat protectant on your hair before you use your hot tool of choice. A heat protectant adds a barrier between the tool and your strands to lock in moisture and battle frizz, reducing the damage caused by hot tools. They come in a variety of compositions, but sprays are the easiest to deal with and get the work done. Increasing the heat setting to an unacceptably high level It’s tempting to set a curling wand’s temperature to the maximum setting. After all, the higher the temperature, the quicker your hair curls, right? Sure, but you’ll be causing damage to your locks as a result. Extreme damage can be caused by too much heat in a short period of time. Experts advise against using a heat tool with a temperature of 400 degrees, regardless of how thin or thick your hair is (the maximum on most tools). It’s best if you practice patience and give yourself more time. This is why you should always choose the best curling iron or wand with temperature control. A simple tip to remember is that if your hair starts to smoke, your tool is too hot. Allowing the curls to fall naturally as soon as they are removed from the tool Consider what you’ll do with the portion of hair you just curled when you remove it from the wand. Most of the time, you just let it fall to your shoulders and move on to the next area.
www.entertainmentmagazine.ca
That’s nice, but there’s a more efficient method. It will last better and come out stronger if you hold the curl up in the palm of your hand and let it cool that way. Depending on the effect you’re going for, you can hold it in your hand or gently pin it up until you’re finished. Using the incorrect tool size for the desired look Curling wands come in a variety of shapes and sizes for a reason: different shapes generate varied results. If you desire loose curls but usually end up with tight curls after curling your hair, you’re definitely using the wrong size barrel. Choose a barrel with a diameter of one or two inches if you want loose curls. A.75-inch or one-inch barrel will give you tighter curls.

Makeup Brushes vs. Sponges vs. Fingers Below is the definitive answer to the question of whether to use a makeup brush, makeup sponge, or finger. Fingers: The ring finger works best Although personal preference influences what makeup application tool you use, the method should also be considered. Depending on the product, you can apply it with makeup brushes, beauty blender sponges, or your fingers. Fingers, for example, work well for products that require a little warming up before combining. (Think of concealer, cosmetic primer, and cream eye shadows, to name a few.) If you want to apply the product with your fingers, the ring finger is the best choice because it applies the least amount of pressure. Additionally, always tap rather than rub. Applying pressed eye makeup with your fingers is recommended because it provides the best colour payoff and most precise application. Just remember to wash your hands first before applying makeup with your
fingers. Brushes: Perfect for applying powder and shadows Makeup brushes, like your fingers, allow for a more precise application. As a result, they are ideal for applying powder and shadows. Because you want everything to blend, use a light hand when applying makeup with a professional makeup brush. Rather than applying all of the product at once, gradually add more until you achieve the desired coverage.
of your beauty sponge, always moisten it before using it. This will ensure that the product is applied and distributed evenly. While we can’t help but enjoy what we like, it can be useful to try out different tool-product combinations to find the one that works best for you. Using a variety of application techniques and products is an excellent way to experiment with and personalise your routine.

We’ve all heard it, this celebrity prefers a makeup brush, while another makeup artist prefers to use her fingers. Some people even apply moisturiser with makeup brushes. Although the advice is useful, it frequently raises more questions than it answers.

Many of us who prefer dense covers prefer that none of the skin beneath be visible. If you want to completely cover your skin, you can use a makeup brush. This is because concealing a zit or other type of discoloration requires the most coverage possible. If you use a beauty blender sponge to cover your foundation-covered pimple, the foundation will simply become more and more sheer, leaving you frustrated almost every time. Sponges: Best for buildable coverage If you want a flawless finish, a makeup sponge is the only tool you need. A makeup sponge is the best tool for flawlessly applying natural foundation, and perhaps for everything else as well. The makeup is long-lasting, has an almost flawless finish, and is buildable. Every beauty expert, and skincare blogger would advise you to add Vitamin C to your skincare routine. So, we all turn to sources of Vitamin C and the most easily and readily available is lemon.
Y
The dos & don’ts of using lemon on your skin
ou might come across various DIYs which involve lemon juice, lemon zest, etc. Let’s weigh in on the pros and cons of using lemon on our skin: Benefits of using lemon on your face: Exfoliates dead skin - Lemon juice contains alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA) such as glycolic acid. Such acids are commonly used in skin care, as they increase cell turnover and slough away dead skin cells. As a result, many folks use lemon juice in hopes of reducing dullness and brightening the skin. Reduces Acne - Lemon juice has astringent qualities due to its acidic level. Ingredients with a low pH level can help decrease inflammation and oil that may contribute to the formation of acne. Increases collagen production - The body needs vitamin C to synthesize collagen, the main structural protein in the skin. Using vitamin-C-rich ingredients can help support your intake of the nutrient, and ultimately, collagen production. Skin spot or hair lightening Citrus ingredients like lemon may also work well on lightening age spots or acne scars, as well as any hair on your face. Now let us look at some disadvantages of using lemon on your face:
www.entertainmentmagazine.ca
Cause irritation: Even if your stint with lemon juice doesn’t result in burns, the ingredient can still cause irritation. This is a side effect of acids, like those in lemon juice, weakening and damaging the skin barrier. Sunburn: Citrus fruits applied topically can also increase your risk of sunburn. Never apply lemon before going outside in direct sunlight, and don’t use it for several days before any planned outdoor activities. Hyperpigmentation: Although lemon juice is often used to reduce hyperpigmentation, it can actually worsen the issue. That’s because the sunburns caused by lemon juice can cause blistering, leading to months of hyperpigmentation and potentially permanent scarring. We are not saying don’t use lemon at all on your face, but do the following so that you don’t develop any skin problems: Always do a patch test before applying it to your face. You can do it on your arms and wait for some time to see the reaction Always dilute lemon juice with something like rose water or honey, avoid using it alone and directly on your face Sunscreen is a must after you apply lemon juice Use fresh lemons in case you are adding the juice to a pack. Nancy and I began having a very blessed life. Sam loved Nancy so much that sometimes my eyes welled up with happiness. I often prayed to god that Sam and Nancy not be adversely affected by even my pleasure that I was deriving from their love. Sam began caring and loving us so much that he made me forget all my past sorrows. Sam tried to give us time as much as possible. After two months of our reunion, it was summer time. Despite his busy work, Sam took a few days off and took us to Toronto by air. We visited CN tower. I was astonished to see its height. We went up there by an elevator. We also had the ferry ride there. Nancy and I were very happy that day, and Sam was very happy to see us glad. The next day, we came to Edmonton by air. We saw the mall where indoor beach had been made under a roof. Nancy, Sam and I enjoyed the artificial tides there. I cannot express how beautiful my world had turned. All three of us were very fond of joy rides. We also enjoyed the rides in the mall. Nancy was very happy with Sam. I was overjoyed to see Nancy so happy. Sam went to his work the next day. I told Meenu and her mom-in-law about our pleasure trip. They were very happy for us. Four essentials of financial planning for first-time parents
28
Being a first-time parent is an exciting experience that is followed by a new set of responsibilities. At times, these responsibilities can be both exhilarating and exhausting. Most new parents prioritise planning for their child’s daily needs, but it is also critical to begin planning the roadmap for securing their financial future.
H
ere are four key financial planning essentials to help ease your future worries and foolproof your child’s tomorrow:
Secured coverage with term insurance: Parents must ensure that they have adequate life insurance coverage in order to provide for their children as they grow older. A term life insurance policy is an excellent choice for this purpose. The term insurance policy will act as a backup plan, assisting your family in meeting their basic financial needs or liabilities if you are unable to do so. Investing in new goals: Inflation can derail even the best-laid financial plans; therefore, you must invest in financial products that provide long-term returns that outperform inflation. To accomplish this, a strong yet flexible combination of investments and protection can assist you in getting started on the path to wealth creation for your child. Insurance companies provide a variety of plans, and if you want to build a corpus for your child, a combination of a Term Plan (for protection) and a Child Plan (for wealth creation) is an excellent choice to consider. Plan for emergencies: Begin accumulating an
www.entertainmentmagazine.ca
emergency fund to cover your child’s unforeseen needs and expenses. A well-structured financial plan is shock-proof because it includes a safety net for financial contingencies. Make a financial plan and figure out how much you can save each month. After considering an emergency fund, allocate the remainder to a good mix of insurance (life and health) and investments. Prioritise retirement plans: Don’t put off working on your retirement plan and start saving now to avoid being unable to support your child’s dreams in the future. At the same time, keep track of your current and post-retirement lifestyle/aspirations. Chart out the future you want for your child. Highlight key milestones in their lives and begin earmarking amounts that they will require during that time. Remember to use a future expense calculator to figure out these numbers. The birth of a child brings immense joy to the family; making adequate plans to secure their present and future in the face of life’s uncertainties will make parenthood a truly rewarding experience. When was the last time you heard a man discussing his sexual wellness in a peer group or a social setting, or even with his loved ones? Chances are, you’ve never heard of such a thing. These conversations, while critical, just do not happen.
W
While as individuals, we are hardwired to share our issues with our near and dear ones, certain conversations still take place in hushed tones. Sexual wellness is one such topic. Since such issues are not spoken about and people refrain from seeking treatment due to a lack of awareness and right online platforms in the country. Performance Pressure Sexual health and effectiveness are taboo in society and specifically for men for various reasons. It is often assumed that sexual activity comes more naturally to men than women. While that is untrue, this notion gets even more troublesome when men aren’t able to perform in bed. Men suffer from performance anxiety a lot more than women, which is a leading cause of erectile dysfunction.
Erectile Dysfunction The commonly used term for ED is impotence. The mere association of this word with men arouses discomfort in social circles and, more often than not, leads to a scarred image. But the problem is not as rare, just less talked about. Trouble maintaining an erection could very well be caused by fibrosis or atrophy, which is a sufficiently organic process but could also be caused due to drugs or smoke. Another myth surrounding men’s sexual health is that ED is a psychological disorder. While the cause could be neurological, the issue needs to be probed for clarity and subsequent treatment. Low Libido Libido comes naturally to all genders, given they’re in a suitable space in their head. Sexual pleasure is a recreational activity that does not need to be and ideally is not supposed to be imposed upon anyone. So, not being in the right mind space, like experiencing stress or anxiety, could lead to low libido. There could be very many reasons that need to get checked by an expert. Premature Ejaculation Generally, one out of three men has been known to complain about premature orgasm. This creates a lot of pressure upon men as they feel they’re somehow incapable of pleasing their women. This further causes a loss of self-confidence, adversely impacting their mental health and even leading to severe problems.
Building your Dream Kitchen?
Sexual pleasure, like any other need in life, is an individual’s responsibility. But acceptance in relationships plays a significant role in bringing that sort of communication out loud. This helps improve relationships and emotional health and leads to enhanced confidence and perspective in all aspects of life. Again, acceptance is the key in the end.

All you need to know about gout health
Gout is a common and complex form of arthritis that can affect anyone. It’s characterized by sudden, severe attacks of pain, swelling, redness and tenderness in one or more joints, most often in the big toe.

tect urate crystals in joints or in tophi.
ecent surgery or trauma: Experiencing recent surgery or trauma can sometimes trigger a gout attack. In some people, receiving a vaccination can trigger a gout flare.
Medications to treat gout attacks
Complications
People with gout can develop more-severe conditions, such as: Recurrent gout: Some people may never experience gout signs and symptoms again. Others may experience gout several times each year. Medications may help prevent gout attacks in people with recurrent gout. If left untreated, gout can cause erosion and destruction of a joint. Advanced gout: Untreated gout may cause deposits of urate crystals to form under the skin in nodules called tophi (TOE-fie). Tophi can develop in several areas, such as your fingers, hands, feet, elbows or Achilles tendons along the backs of your ankles. Tophi usually aren’t painful, but they can become swollen and tender during gout attacks. Kidney stones: Urate crystals may collect in the urinary tracts of people with gout, causing kidney stones. Medications can help reduce the risk of kidney stones. Diagnosis Doctors usually diagnose gout based on your symptoms and the appearance of the affected joint. Tests to help diagnose gout may include: Joint fluid test: Your doctor may use a needle to draw fluid from your affected joint. Urate crystals may be visible when the fluid is examined under a microscope. Blood test: Your doctor may recommend a blood test to measure the levels of uric acid in your blood. Blood test results can be misleading, though. Some people have high uric acid levels, but never experience gout. And some people have signs and symptoms of gout, but don’t have unusual levels of uric acid in their blood. X-ray imaging: Joint X-rays can be helpful to rule out other causes of joint inflammation. Ultrasound: This test uses sound waves to dewww.entertainmentmagazine.ca
Drugs used to treat gout flares and prevent future attacks include: Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs): NSAIDs include over-the-counter options such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, others) and naproxen sodium (Aleve), as well as more-powerful prescription NSAIDs such as indomethacin (Indocin, Tivorbex) or celecoxib (Celebrex). NSAIDs carry risks of stomach pain, bleeding and ulcers. Colchicine: Your doctor may recommend colchicine (Colcrys, Gloperba, Mitigare), an anti-inflammatory drug that effectively reduces gout pain. The drug’s effectiveness may be offset, however, by side effects such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Corticosteroids: Corticosteroid medications, such as prednisone, may control gout inflammation and pain. Corticosteroids may be in pill form, or they can be injected into your joint. Side effects of corticosteroids may include mood changes, increased blood sugar levels and elevated blood pressure. Medications to prevent gout complications If you experience several gout attacks each year, or if your gout attacks are less frequent but particularly painful, your doctor may recommend medication to reduce your risk of gout-related complications. If you already have evidence of damage from gout on joint X-rays, or you have tophi, chronic kidney disease or kidney stones, medications to lower your body’s level of uric acid may be recommended. Medications that block uric acid production: Drugs such as allopurinol (Aloprim, Lopurin, Zyloprim) and febuxostat (Uloric) help limit the amount of uric acid your body makes. Side effects of allopurinol include fever, rash, hepatitis and kidney problems. Febuxostat side effects include rash, nausea and reduced liver function. Febuxostat also may increase the risk of heart-related death. Medications that improve uric acid removal: Drugs such as probenecid (Probalan) help improve your kidneys’ ability to remove uric acid
from your body. Side effects include a rash, stomach pain and kidney stones. Lifestyle and home remedes Medications are often the most effective way to treat gout attacks and prevent recurrent symptom flares. However, lifestyle choices also are important, and you may want to: Choose healthier beverages: Limit alcoholic beverages and drinks sweetened with fruit sugar (fructose). Instead, drink plenty of nonalcoholic beverages, especially water. Avoid foods high in purines: Red meat and organ meats, such as liver, are especially high in purines. Purine-rich seafood includes anchovies, sardines, mussels, scallops, trout and tuna. Low-fat dairy products may be a better source of protein for people prone to gout. Exercise regularly and lose weight: Keeping your body at a healthy weight reduces your risk of gout. Choose low-impact activities such as walking, bicycling and swimming — which are easier on your joints.

this is the first time SG Micro has provided components for high-end iPhones, implying that its technical capabilities have reached the “tier-1 level” required for use in premium consumer electronics. Kuo recently said that some iPhone 14 components, such as display panels, are facing supply chain issues, but the analyst believes the issues will have a limited impact on the upcoming mass production of iPhone 14 models, which are expected to be
announced in September. The lineup is expected to include the 6.1-inch iPhone 14, 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max, 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro, and 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max. However, the tech giant might discontinue the 5.4-inch iPhone mini this year. A recent report said that the upcoming iPhone 14 is likely to be $100 more costlier than iPhone 13. By: IANS

outh Korean tech giant Samsung’s upcoming foldable smartphones, which is all set to release on August 10, may start at 1,080 euros ($1,103 approx) in the European market. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 may come at three internal storage variants -- 128GB, 256GB and 512GB -- for 1,080.90 euros, 1,158.89 euros and 1,275.89 euros, respectively. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 with 256GB and 512GB internal storage may come at 1,864 euros and 1,982 euros, respectively, GSMArena reported. Meanwhile, Samsung’s next-generation smartwatch Galaxy Watch5 40mm (BT only version) will go for 259 euros ($264 approx), while the 44mm model may come at 286 euros. The Watch5 Pro’s price tag will supposedly be 430 euros for the 45mm BT-only option, which is a slight price bump from last year. The report mentioned that the pricing details come from a “reliable European retailer”, which usually gets its prices right, citing reports. A recent report said that Galaxy Watch5 Pro will likely come with a huge 572 mAh battery. To put that into context, the biggest Galaxy Watch4 and Classic models have a 361 mAh cell. So this would be an almost 60 per cent bigger capacity on the upcoming watch, which would probably still give under two-day battery life for the most intensive users. Recently, the company said that the next-generation foldable smartphones, Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4, will be showcased during the Galaxy Unpacked online event, “Unfold Your World”, slated for August 10. Thailand tempts visitors with a smile as golden as the country’s glittering temples and tropical beaches

arrow lanes filled with the aroma of lip smacking food, quaint houses till wherever your eyes can see, alleys immersed in the spirit of fun and frolic, that’s Thailand for anyone who has never been there. From emerald beaches to tiny towns and a metropolitan city like Bangkok, Thailand has everything that a traveller would seek. Be it a budget traveller, a tourist or a couple seeking some fun on their honeymoon, this is a perfect destination for people from all walks
of life and will never cease to amaze you. Lets take you through the highlights of this tropical country. A bountiful table Adored around the world, Thai cuisine expresses fundamental aspects of Thai culture: it is generous, warm, refreshing and relaxed. Thai dishes rely on fresh, local ingredients – pungent lemongrass, searing chillies and plump seafood. A varied national menu is built around the four fundamental flavours: spicy, sweet, salty and sour. Roving appetites go on eating tours of Bangkok noodle shacks, seafood pavilions in Phuket, and Burmese market stalls in Mae Sot. Cooking classes reveal the simplicity behind the seemingly complicated dishes, and mastering the market is an important survival skill. Fields and forests Outside the cluttered cities and towns lies Thailand’s rural heartland, a mix of rice paddies, tropical forests and villages where life is dominated by the rhythms of the agricultural clock. In the north, the forests and fields bump up against toothy blue mountains decorated with silvery waterfalls and honeycombed by deep caves. Down south, scraggy limestone cliffs poke out of the cultivated landscape like prehistoric skyscrapers, or emerge dramatically out of the turquoise sea. The usually arid northeast turns an emerald hue during the rainy season when tender green rice shoots carpet the landscape.

Independence Day: 5 lesser-known facts about Independent India independance day
This year, on August 15, when incumbent Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hoist the tricolour at the rampart of the Red Fort, India will complete its 75 years of Independence from British rule.
I
ndia’s Independence is a result of the tireless efforts of unforgettable heroes of the nation who even laid their lives in the way of the country’s freedom struggle. For the first time after remaining under British rule for nearly 200 years, the nation witnessed the sun of Independence on August 15, 1947, when the nation’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, unfurled the national tricolour at the Lahori Gate of the Red Fort. On the morning of August 14, the PM delivered his unforgettable speech and said, “Long years ago, we made a tryst with destiny and now that time comes when we shall redeem our pledge. At the stroke of to-
42
day’s midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom.” On the occasion of the 75th Anniversary of India’s Independence, through this article, we will put some light on the interesting facts related to the nation and its independence. Adoption of the Indian National Anthem When India gained independence, it did not have an official national anthem. The song Bharoto Bhagyo Bidhata, composed by Rabindranath Tagore in 1911, was renamed Jan Gan Man and adopted by the Constituent Assembly of India as the national anthem on January 24, 1950. First flag was hoisted in Kolkata According to historians, the first national flag in India was hoisted on August 7, 1906, in Parsee Bagan Square (Green Park) in Calcutta, now Kolkata. The flag was composed of three horizontal stripes of red, yellow and green, while Vande Mataram was scripted on the middle strip. Tricolour as India’s national flag In 1931, a resolution was passed adopting a tricolour flag as our national flag. The flag, forebear of the present one, was saffron, white, and green, with Mahatma Gandhi’s spinning wheel at the centre. Later, on July 22, 1947, the Constituent Assembly adopted tricolour as the Free India National Flag. However, it replaces the spinning wheel on the flag with the Dharma Charkha of Emperor Asoka as the emblem on the flag. The first variant of our current national flag was designed by Pingali Venkayya in 1921. Why was August 15 chosen?
INSURE LIFE FINANCIAL GROUP
Although the Indian Independence Act was approved on July 18, 1947, Lord Mountbatten selected August 15, as the date of Indian independence because it coincided with the date of Japan’s surrender to the Allied Forces after World War II. Earlier, the British parliament had given a mandate to Lord Mountbatten to transfer power by June 30, 1948. However, as per C Rajagopalachari’s memorable words, if he had waited till June 1948, there would have been no power left to transfer. Therefore, Mountbatten preponed the date to August 1947. State Emblem of India A representation of the Lion Capital of Ashoka placed above the motto, Satyameva Jayate, was chosen as the emblem of the Dominion of India on December 30, 1947. Later, on January 26, 1950, the three-dimensional emblem showing four lions was adopted as the State Emblem of India. By: Nilay Mehrotra

HOME DECOR
pending more time indoors has all of us paying closer attention to the smallest of details in when it comes to our interior decor. Let the season prompt you to make some fun changes for a fresh look. Here’s how you can add some summer motifs into your living spaces: Floral motifs: Nothing says

Summer like bright floral patterns, incorporate more floral prints in your space, with bedding cushions and accessories. Accessorise with citrus, summer lemons, and oranges placed around the house in beautiful bowls and platters. These make for the perfect summer accessory. Expand living space to outdoor space, whether it is a small porch or a large backyard. Consider adding outdoor furniture and incorporating outdoor living space. An easy way to bring colour to space is to create fun custom lampshades in bright summer colours and swapping them out seasonally. Consider bringing beautiful flowers from your garden and arranging them in fun containers and vases. Use water pitchers as vases to recycle old containers. Place beautiful coffee table books around the house for lazy summer reading. Books are also the perfect accessory for your coffee or bedside

table. Switch to summer bedding. Consider swapping your bedding to crisp white cotton with floral accents. Brighten up your patio with an indoor/outdoor rug. A rug is a great way to add a sense of outdoor room and add a pop of colour to the outdoor space. Woven and wicker: Nothing says summer like woven textures, be it wicker rocking chairs on the porch or rattan chairs in a sunroom. Consider adding seasonal wicker accents like baskets to store items or light fixtures to add texture to space. Add mirrors; summer light is a great way to light your space with natural light; consider placing mirrors on the walls in front of bright windows to bring the bright summer light in. Additionally, rearrange your room to maximize flow, take-out items, and move items around to allow for the best access to natural light and movement within the space. By: IANS

Men are no longer labelled as vain for spending time grooming and caring for their appearances. A well-groomed man has now become the norm. Men’s grooming regimens are much more than just using a 3-in-1 wash or a bar soap for all of their self-care needs; they are much more than that now! We gathered a few habits from men who look sharp and on point at all times of day, and it isn’t too much work.
The 6 habits of impeccably groomed men
H
ere are some quick habits you can incorporate into your daily routine to keep you looking fresh throughout the day:
Have a skin care routine: Prevention is preferable to cure, and two is preferable to one. If you don’t want to go so far as to see a dermatologist on a regular basis, start with two essentials: moisturiser and sunscreen. At night, moisturiser is applied, and during the day, sunscreen is applied. Men who want to look their best don’t take this step lightly. Sunscreen prevents uneven skin tone and fine lines caused by sun damage, as well as wrinkles and signs of ageing. One layer in the morning before leaving the house, and another every four hours. When you’re sleeping, your body regenerates cells at the fastest rate. A nutrient-dense moisturiser will hydrate and nourish your skin. Using a moisturiser while sleeping will enhance the effects of sleep on your complexion.
Make regular appointments with your barber: There is a fine line between a stylish laid-back appearance and an unkempt appearance. It may take a few days to cross the line. Determine your growth cycle and schedule recurring barber appointments so you can be proactive in staying sharp before the need arises, rather than reacting to overgrown hair. Take care of your facial fuzz: Scruffy, unruly beards are no longer fashionable. If you have a beard, please be aware that it is a permanent fixture that requires dedication. It takes constant care and work to keep beards looking perfect, believe me, but it’s well worth the effort. If you don’t have the time to maintain a beard, opt for a lightly shaved or clean shaved look, which is both timeless and fuss-free. Invest in a good single-edged razor and shave away. Experiment to find what products work for you: Don’t chase fads; instead, spend some time experimenting with your hair and skin to see what works for you and produces the desired results. There are a lot of products available, and it can be difficult to sift through them all to find the one that’s just right for you. You could consult your barber for advice on products that are appropriate for you and your personal style. Looking impeccable does not necessitate lavishly spending and stockpiling a plethora of grooming products. All it takes is some trial and error. Have a nail care routine: Regularly trim your nails. They get noticed more than you think, believe it or not. Chipped, bitten, or dirt-filled nails will make an impression before you have a chance to make one. Do not be afraid to get pedicures and manicures every now and then, as these two hygiene practises can be quite enjoyable if done in the right places, and will also get the job done for you. Take some time out for yourself: Grooming is more than just looking good. It is also important to make time for yourself. Yes, we’re talking about sleep. But we’re also talking about taking some time to refresh and rejuvenate yourself. Engage in activities that both please and de-stress you. Take a walk, go for a hike, or relax with some light reading whatever you need to do to keep your momentum going. It’s going to work like a charm. People who are joyful are stunning! By: KRUTI SHETH

Whether you’re a kid who just sprained your knee, a 24-yearold going through a mid-life crisis, or a person over 60 looking to start a new inning in life. It is safe to say that enveloping our arms around the body is one of the most widely recognised forms of love.
Heal yourself with
T
ouch has that kind of power. Humans are born with a desire for physical affection and are socialised to crave it. It is one of our most basic requirements, along with food and water. And, while much has changed in the way we interact with one another over the years, the need for physical affection has not. The science behind a hug A 2013 study found that the act of hugging can change the levels in our endocrine system. “The endocrine system is made up of glands that secrete hormones into the bloodstream. These glands include the pineal gland, pancreas, hypothalamus, ovaries, and others. The study found that hugging can make us feel more comforted by changing the levels of hormones in the body.” said Goldy Nagdev, Managing Director, Hari Darshan Sevashram Pvt. Ltd. “The hugged person’s hormone levels changed in a way that made them feel more comfortable and relaxed. The researchers believe that this happens because hugging releases oxytocin, which is a hormone that has been shown to reduce stress and promote feelings of happiness and bonding. This research shows that hugging can be a powerful tool for promoting well-being and reducing stress.” No pain, no gain? False! No pain, no gain does not stand valid anymore, especially not with the study proving self-hugs to be the cure for it - literally! The hugs you give yourself may help relieve chronic pain! Researchers found that when people hug themselves, it causes their brains to get mixed up on where the hurt is located. The researchers suggest this outcome relates back to confusion about where exactly feels bad in our bodies-it can be anywhere from the head down low or vice versa depending on how we’re standing at any given moment when giving ourselves www.entertainmentmagazine.ca

a potential embrace-but what really matters here? That there seems some truth behind theories claiming self-love improves moods by making individuals feel more confident and happy. You got your back “When you give yourself a hug, it can help you feel more connected to yourself and less alone. When you wrap your arms around your shoulders in an embrace it also triggers your brain to think of this gesture as social support. It offers many benefits such as promoting feelings of safety and security which is especially important during these times, now that we have realised post-Covid how we need ourselves more than any amenity, person or luxury in the world.” added Goldy Nagdev.
A hug a day keeps doctors away Who would have thought that a hug a day could keep doctors away? In an interesting study conducted by Dr Sheldon Cohen, Professor of Psychology at Carnegie Mellon University. Some adults were exposed to the common cold virus and monitored for symptoms- but not only did they get sick less
often than others before them; those who had received hugging treatments early on in life showed much fewer signs of illness when infected later on. The University of North Carolina’s findings shows that hugging can keep us healthier by increasing white blood cells in the body. It is also believed to help with stress relief, which helps fight off infection! Hugging it out all the way A warm hug is more than just a gesture of affection. It is also a powerful tool for promoting understanding and reducing judgment. Goldy Nagdev, Managing Director, Hari Darshan Sevash-
ram Pvt. Ltd. said: “When we hug someone, we are physically and emotionally close to them. This proximity encourages communication and positivity. It also helps to reduce the stress hormone cortisol, which can lead to greater feelings of hostility and judgment. The release of the joy hormone oxytocin during a hug also induces feelings of love and compassion, furthering the emotional bond between two people. In short, hugging is a classic expression of empathy that can help us to connect with others and build a more compassionate world.”

Hugs driving self-compassion to new highs While self-criticism can be a helpful motivator in some cases, too much of it can lead to feelings of inadequacy and despair. On the other hand, self-compassion provides a sense of understanding and support during difficult times. As per renowned self-compassion researcher Kristin Neff, PhD, research has

shown that self-compassion can lower cortisol levels, improve overall well-being, and even increase mindful acceptance and self-esteem. So the next time you’re feeling down on yourself, try giving yourself a hug-you just might find it makes a world of difference.

All About Dental Implants also increase the chances of implant failure. 4 Healing abutments will be placed at the time of implant placement. So, do rinse them frequently and keep them clean.

Dr. Nisha Garg
Cont. from previous edition
Dental Implant Procedure Placing a dental implant has various stages. They are sum50 marised as below: Placing The Implant Thanks to the modern dentistry techniques, it’s possible to make the implant placement procedure comfortable and pain-free. The procedure starts with the jawbone preparation, and the surgeon then makes a cut to expose the bone for drilling holes. The holes are kept deep enough for the implant to be placed properly and placed deep into the bone, like the root. Sometimes, after this, a temporary crown is given to the patient which is placed to fill the gap, and also for achieving the aesthetic goal. This crown can be taken off for implant procedure, one has to wait until the bone is healed properly Healing During this process, the jawbone will grow and unite with the surface of the dental implant. This process is also referred to as osseointegration as it helps to offer a durable base for the new artificial tooth, much like roots do for the natural teeth. In general, this process takes between 3 to 6 months depending on the bone health & structure. After that, you can schedule the second surgery but only once the implants are fused with the bone. Abutment Placement The second surgery will be simpler than the first where a new incision is made to expose the heads of the implants. During the procedure, the dentist will re-open the wound to attach the abutment to dental implant. A temporary crown will be given for 4 to 6 weeks to let www.entertainmentmagazine.ca
the gums around the abutment heal. Placement Of Permanent Crown In this stage, the dentist will focus on making the permanent crown look exactly like your natural teeth. All the elements like the surface texture, color and anatomy will be tuned up to blend with the surrounding dentition. After crown placement, your doctor will explain post-implant care instruction.
4 Healing is not possible without good oral hygiene. Use the prescribed oral rinse while the day after surgery. Rinse for at least 30 seconds and then spit it out. Use warm salt rinses at least 4-5 times a day as well. 4 Be gentle while brushing the surgical area to not affect the healing. 4 Do not use, or consume, tobacco products in any form or any type after implants. It not only hinders healing but may
DENTAL IMPLANT COST The cost of dental implants seems to be more however, implants are not that heavy on your pocket. There are multiple parts to each procedure which actually leads to a perception of implants being expensive. It is critical to understand that if a missing tooth is not replaced with an implant, sooner or later the adjacent teeth start shifting and jawbone loss also starts which ultimately would turn out to be much more expensive to manage than a single dental implant.

POST-OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS FOR DENTAL IMPLANTS 4 Follow post-operative instructions after dental implant procedure. 4 Avoid touching, spitting or rinsing the wound on the day of surgery. 4 After implant surgery, it’s normal to have some bleeding or redness in the mouth for 24 hours. To control excessive bleeding, bite on a gauze pad (placed on the bleeding wound) for 30 minutes. If bleeding does not stop, seek further instructions from your dentist. 4 Swelling is natural after surgery. To minimize it, apply an ice pack on the cheek in the surgical area. 4 Drink lots of fluids but avoid consuming hot beverages. Stick to soft diet on the day of surgery. Don’t drink anything using a straw. 4 Start taking pain medication as soon as you feel the effects of the local anaesthetic are going down. However, take the medicines prescribed by the dentist. A good moisturiser can transform skin, irrespective of the skin type. The trick is to know the difference between day and night moisturisers.
M
ost of us hesitate in buying separate day and night creams, instead, we rely on only one moisturiser to do the job for us. We forget that our skin is exposed to different conditions during the day and night, which means that we have to use two separate creams to protect and nourish our skin. Both, day and night creams, have different formulas that work in their own unique ways to nourish, hydrate and tighten the skin to give it an everlasting glow. Day and night moisturisers have unique features, independent of each other…

SPF quantity Day cream (DC) - The biggest difference between day and night creams is the presence of SPF (sun protection factor). During the day, you are exposed to ultraviolet rays, which can damage your skin cells. SPF protects your skin from sunburn and photoaging. Also, day creams contain antioxidants and caffeine that make the skin look fresh and tight throughout the day. They usually con-
tain 15 to 150 units of SPF. Night cream (NC) - On the other hand, night creams don’t contain any SPF as you aren’t exposed to ultraviolet light after the sun sets. They focus on preventing dark circles and slowing down the development of wrinkles, fine lines and skin discolouration. Combination of different ingredients DC- People use different creams during day and night because they want to enjoy benefits of different ingredients. Day creams are rich in antioxidants and SPF, both of which neutralise free radicals to prevent skin cancer and keep you energised. Makeup DC - Day creams are light in texture and contain more water for smooth application of makeup later. It creates a soft and clear surface, so one can apply makeup and not worry about dry skin. NC - Night creams are heavier and creamier in texture as they are designed to be slowly absorbed by your skin. They seep through multiple layers to deeply repair and restore your skin’s health. Primary function DC - Day creams are all about protecting your skin from harmful rays of the sun, ultraviolet rays and pollution. NC - Night creams engage in rejuvenation of your skin cells and have a long-lasting effect. Busting myths Yes, one can use a day cream during the night but avoid using a night cream during the day because it is greasy and sticky. It will make the skin look dull and the makeup won’t sit well. If you are planning to stay indoors all day, it is okay to use the night moisturiser. Invest in moisturisers that contain the least amount of ingredients as too many ingredients reduce the effectivity of the cream all together.

Fashionably stylish B
oth terms are interchangeably used for each other but there’s one major difference between the two. Fashion is disposable while style isn’t because it is your personal choice. Before finding out more differences between fashion and style, let’s understand what the terms mean, and how you can up your fashion quotient by changing your style! Fashion for the fashionistas Fashion is anything that’s ‘in trend’ at the moment and doesn’t last for too long. It puts one in a comparison mode, where one wants to look like everyone else. The inspiration to purchase clothes that are in fashion comes from magazines, runways, and celebrity outings. They are not the most sustainable as they are designed for the moment, which makes them very expensive. Fashion changes every season and is always out of the ordinary. For the style divas On the other hand, style is per-

sonal and unique to every person. It represents the personality of an individual and is something that everyone is comfortable in. The choice of style or clothing lasts for a long time as it gives one confidence and charisma, which in turn makes you attractive to those around.
superior quality. The clothes are well-designed and well-made, which makes them more expensive compared to fast fashion products. Even though price isn’t the best way to judge the quality of a clothing price, setting your budget per item controls your urge of impulsive buying.
Up, close & personal Now that you know that fashion and style stand for two different attitudes, a clear differentiation will help you glam up your style and wardrobe too.
In the long run, sustainable products are more affordable in the long run. Fast fashion is cheap, which encourages us to purchase clothes often but they aren’t well-made and never considered equal to being stylish.
Acceptance Fashion is a product of a designer’s imagination and is meant to be accepted by the society, whereas style is accepted only by a specific or niche group of people. It is all about identifying yourself with a fash-ion trend of the past, which you chose to continue even after new ones replaced it. Today’s world emphasizes on fast fashion forcing customers to spend more money of clothes, only to impress those around you and win approval. Brands like Zara, Forever 21, and H&M have embraced fast fashion and produce over 100 micro trends every year instead of two to four major trends every 12 months.
Hit by environment The fast-paced fashion industry is the second most polluting industry in the world. People throw clothes as soon as they buy them and drives your focus away from your true style. Apart from the negative envi-ronmental impacts including endangerment of aquatic life and water pollution, fast fashion negatively affects the society. If a person isn’t fashion aware, they get bullied and forced into spending money on something they don’t want. Wear clothes that make you comfortable and confident and you will always be in style. By: IANSLife
Pace of change Both, style and fashion, change over time but style lasts for a long time and isn’t affected by latest fashion trends. Fashion changes every season and is inspired by the season’s colours and styles. It is designed to take away our attention from yourself, which eventually bores you out, so you move on to a new fashion trend next season. Quality of materials used Since style is meant to be sustainable and used for a long time, the materials used are of a

ately, millennials are becoming aware of healthy eating habits for good health and well-being. So, if you too belong to Gen Y and are taking the first step toward a wholesome life then the following healthy eating habits can help you to perfect your journey to health:
Evaluate requirements and never skip meals: Depending upon the activity and profession, the nutritional requirements vary from person to person. Your body’s needs in terms of macro and micronutrients are unique and hence you must first evaluate your requirement and then make a plan for it. Also, it’s important for the millennials never to skip the meal, and even there is no harm in snacking in between to calm your hunger pangs. Rather than opting for fried foods, popped chips, dark chocolates, and energy bars make for a healthy and filling snacking option.
health
Make a Schedule and Stick to it: Making a schedule and then sticking to it religiously will help you to discipline your own eating habits. To perfect the habit, take a diary and write everything that goes into your tummy. In addition, keep a close track of the intake of calories. And count how much you need and how much you spend. This calculation will help you keep tweaking your intake and spending and accordingly, adjust your eating habits. Eat Dinner before 8 pm: Eating anything heavy after the sunset is not recommended as per our circadian rhythm and hence, you should try to have your last meal of the day before 8 pm. If you can’t eat before 8 then it’s better to take a light dinner with the preferred option being the green salad or a cup of milk. Also, make sure to walk at least 10-15
after dinner to help the body digest the food properly. Just stick to basic, fundamentals rules, closely monitor the unique requirements of your body and you’ll be sure to achieve your health goals in an effortless manner.
By: IANSLife
Choose intelligently and say no to Junk: Millennials are part of the specific lifestyle and work culture and hence, eating out comes naturally to this chunk of the population. The option is not best from the health perspective but still, you can choose intelligently on those party nights or weekend trips to save your health plans to go haywire. One of the smartest things you can do is to avoid junk food and rather opt for healthier options available on the menu. Consider Plant-Based Options: Plantbased diets are increasingly becoming popular and for a good reason. Vegan products pack all essential nutrients and are quite easy to digest for our system. In fact, vegan products are now recommended to get rid of many lifestyle diseases including high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart problems among others.

MANISH’S ZODIAC PREDICTIONS - AUGUST 2022 What's your #Astrology sign? Select your Astro sign and read below.
Manish Kumar
Aries (March 21- April 20)
Taurus
TIt’s time to do something selfexpressive, fun, and creative. You could feel an overwhelming need to pour your heart out to a lover, or a romantic affair reaches some sort of epiphany. There could be a whirlwind of activity surrounding your child or children.
(April 21- March 20)
You’re feeling brave, independent, and eager to begin new projects. There is much initiative now, with personal involvement in new ventures or undertakings. You are striving for independence and freedom of movement in everyday affairs. The key now is not overstating yourself.
Leo (Jul 23 - August 23)
This is an especially introspective cycle during which you have the chance to truly uncover your personal strengths and talents. On a more practical level, you may be dealing with joint finances and shared resources now more than usual. It’s time to carve your own path in life.
Sagittarius (November 23 - December 21)
Your magnetism revolves around mysterious fascination rather than outgoing charm. Intensity appeals in your relationships. This can also be a time in which you discover untapped resources or talents. It is a good time to work out money problems or other issues of sharing with a partner.
Virgo (Aug 23-Sep 23)
Gemini
(May 21-Jun 21)
You may enjoy key opportunity periods that boost your self-confidence, and do wonders for your ego and your relationships, particularly if your relationships or your own confidence in the way you present yourself to others is in need of healing. New financial initiatives are best avoided however.
Libra (September 24- October 23)
You have presence and you project confidence. You are in the position to make an impression on others, and to assert your personal influence beyond its normal boundaries. Spontaneity of expression is what this transit is about. A renewed feeling of confidence is with you now.
Your disposition is more intellectual than usual now, and self-expression comes easy. You are sharper than usual--more observant, and more inclined to “live in the head”. Relationships with siblings, neighbours, classmates, and casual friends may become more prominent in your life now.
Capricorn
Aquarius
( December 22 - January 20)
Your focus is on making contacts and reaching out to others in both social and professional sense. It’s a time to turn inner restlessness into fruitful contact with others. The flowing, expressive, and spontaneous energy surrounding you attracts like-minded and hearted people.
(January 21 - February 18)
This month, your focus is on balancing time between your career and your social agenda. You might draw upon your executive ability now. It’s a busy month for business and work; at the same time, socializing and romance also figure prominently. Love matters are mostly easy and amiable.
Cancer (Jun 22- July 22)
This is a time when you let loose your softer, receptive side. Romantic matters, as well as pleasure-seeking activities, come to the fore now. You are more likely to pay closer attention to your physical appearance and mannerisms, aiming to improve and enhance your attractiveness.
Scorpio (Octo. 24-Nov. 22)
Enthusiasm and confidence are with you now, and it’s easy to tap into your more unique qualities and talents in order to go after what we want. This is a time to do what you can to build trust in your family life and a strong foundation within yourself.
Pisces (February 19 March 20)
This is time to plant a creative seed-you are inspired with a new project or plan. This is a strong time for romance. Negotiations run smoothly, charm works, and a positive connection can be made with a person of a markedly different background than you.
